Lidl in other cities:
I love this place! I just tried to post a review and I can’t see it so I’m assuming it didn’t post. However if it did sorry for double posting.I love Lid. It is now the only food store I currently go to. I’ll the prices are amazing, they’re own brand products are always soooogood if not better than others. All of their employees are so nice and helpful. Just overall I always have a great experience there!
I have grown to love Lidls. There are a few things I buy that I cant find there but you cant beat the prices for the things you can find. The cold cuts are excellent, their own brand of food is amazing for the price. Overall a great shopping experience. And a quick tip; bring a bit of extra money for the finds in the middle of the store. 😁
Organized and great produce. The things I find at stop and shop in not great shape and expensive (peppers, other veggies) I find them here in great condition and even cheaper than the sales at stop and shop. Love this store. The meat is great here also. Always reasonably priced and we were surprised at how great the quality always is for the price!
I have tried and tried to like this place but it’s just so poorly run I can’t deal with it. Today’s visit: no carts readily available had to go out searching in the parking lot. Produce selection is expensive and limited. Meat dept is all prepackaged and the dates scare me. Each aisle had at least 1/3 to 1/2 aisle of empty shelves. No lactose free cottage cheese. No fat free lactose free milk. Super limited gluten free selections. NO EGGS!!?? Dairy section really lacking. Frozen aisle previous selections the prices have been raised substantially since last visit. Long lines. Rude staff. Man, how I miss Best Market. Sighhh
As Lidl goes, this store has been better then others....But, has steadily gone down hill. This was converted from another former store and has been a little different then some of the other new stores that are new builds, from the ground up. If you are accustomed to a European Lidl, those are much better. Stores, Ive been in, close to DC and their corporate offices are much better. They also have different price points for the same item from one store to the other, they can be drastic. ( Chocolate Almond Milk, Cheeses)They all dont seem to order or stock effectively. They definitely do not anticipate or identify Hot sale items and order to accommodate. This store, like others suffer from one major thing. No Direction...No one seems to be taking charge;Shelves are empty, Cats in lot, Bakery not fresh, lines long at registers...etc. identify problems and solve.I realize this store recently suffered a power loss due to Tropical Storm, but has not recovered. It should have remained closed until it was properly re-stocked.I like running in for those quick items, you know they have and like.Might have to find somewhere else to run into.
Unfortunately Lidl does not come close to what most New Yorker’s think of as a grocery store. Although the store it replaced, Best was not perfect, you had a better chance at finding what you wanted. Best was more like a full service supermarket, with a deli, bakery, butcher and fish departments which didn’t require you to accept prepackaged merchandise.I don’t like being forced to accept someone else’s choice of products and all too often being unable to find what I want because of a lack of variety.Don’t let the hype about lower prices make you think that you will save since you will do equally well if you shopped off brand in the major supermarkets. Sure you won’t be able to pick up warm up clothes and tools, but I don’t plan on buying these items when I’m food shopping and find it insulting that Lidl thinks that this is what you should do.Perhaps this type of general store concept would work in some rural area where there are no other choices but not where these stores are being placed. Did anybody do a customer focus group to see how this would go over in the old Best sites. Clearly this is a clear example of poor vision and management.
After first experiencing Lidl in Ireland, I was excited when I heard that they were building new stores on Long Island. Now that several stores are open, and Ive had the chance to experience them, Im not nearly as excited about what we were given.Perhaps the best thing about the Best Market that this store is replacing was the produce section. Lidl falls short when it comes to produce. Perhaps it has to do with how I shop. Im not typically going to buy a bag of red onions when I need one red onion for a recipe, Im not stocking a restaurant. Having all the produce in convenient bundles with barcodes makes it easier for the checkout staff, but is frustrating when buying ingredients for a one off recipe. The cheese selection is paltry, when it used to be robust. It feels like a pop-up market, instead of a grocery store. As for prices, some items seemed like deals, while others made me wonder if they even have a clue what other stores in the area charge. The prices are hit or miss. The staff were nice, although most seemed to just be hanging out, watching five employees work, or staring at an empty plastic pallet that had become a choke point in an aisle. The checkout staff were busy and courteous.Hopefully they smooth out the bumps, and dial it in. But i have a feeling this store may be a once a quarter visit from me.
Not my kind of grocery store. Very limited fresh produce. No deli counter, no fresh fish, no Italian bread or brick oven ciabattas. They do have an in house bakery section. Seems to have an abundance of frozen products and store brand products. Very tough to compare prices and quality of items. Most pricing is listed as price per oz. Also if your mainly selling store brand products, you should have people out there with samples. May be good for older couples who buy very little. Not sure of the companys game plan. Place was very clean and looked nice and new. Plenty of friendly staff.
Horrible, rude manager. You should shop at ALDI instead of this place!Something I was buying rang up for more $ than the sign said. I went back & took picture of sign and showed it to cashier... he called manager 2 times before he finally came over 10 minutes later. Manager wouldnt honor the price even when I showed him the sign. He then actually told me I should leave if not happy with that (which I still am shocked he said!) I actually did walk out without any of the items I picked out because he was so rude... I will NOT be going again. You should go to ALDI instead... ALDI is much better!
Really wanted to like this place, since I was really happy with Best Market, but I don’t think it’ll really work well for my needs. I don’t want to buy my shoes, blankets, earbuds, or a battery powered Audi for a small child in the market where I buy my food. As well, their choices are limited by the fact that so much space is given to non-food items. The store is very clean and sparkling, and those working there seem fairly enthusiastic, but I’m not really sure why. Just a weird combo of stuff that I don’t want or need from a supermarket that now lacks the great variety of fresh fruits and veg that were available at Best-and many at much better prices.I’ll probably go back again to give it one more try, but honestly, this store will likely make my life more inconvenient because they don’t have what I want, they have lots of what I don’t want, and now I’ll have to go somewhere else to get want I do want. I’m not liking the change very much.
I love this store. Its new and clean and the way its set up it looks huge. They have quite a few German items but also American brands we are all familiar with. I have tried quite a few Lidl items and all of them have been great. Tasty and great quality. This store will be a regular stop for me.
This place is very barren bones with a limited variety of familiar brands found at traditional stores. But, the prices are vastly lower than surrounding supermarkets. The entire store is like the old always save aisle of the supermarket, if anyone remembers that. If Aldi is a four, this place is a three, and Trader Joes would be a five. Definitely come here if your main criteria is value.
So when I go shopping I don’t like to visit more than 2 stores. Lidl has a minimal selection of fresh produce. No fresh organic produce. No fresh Deli or seafood. The other problem is that the selection is so sporadic that I don’t even know what I am going to buy there. It seems that the selection of goods is so spread out. Best thing I can compare it to is a higher quality dollar store. Lots of randomness without any cohesion.I truly hope they don’t go out of business. I will come back but I am not sure if they sell anything I want. Let’s wait and see.
My husband and I just tried Lidl of Huntington for the first time. We love it! The prices are great. We got so much for what we spent compared to others. They have a few brands I haven’t heard of before, but we love trying new things. Lots of imports, which taste great. They’re bakery is really good—croissants and cheese bread were delish. I’m not sure why people said they didn’t have everything. They do, just different brands. The prices will have me going back. My husband and I are new homeowners here in Huntington, so affordability is important to us. For this reason, we don’t miss Best Market, which had spoiled produce and overly expensive when I visited.
I understand why people are comparing Lidl to Best Market, since its what used to be here ... but this place is nothing like Best Market. To those who really liked Best Market (which includes me) this place is a disappointment. Sure, if it were the only game in town, one could get by with what they have, but given the Lidl model to offer less selection within a broader range of categories - including non-grocery - one really has to wonder why bother shopping here, given the abundance of other options we have ? The quality here is no better than anywhere else, and the selection WAY less than Best Market or Stop N Shop. Some prices can be a bit lower - Ill give them that - but not always and not on everything. If you want the store to decide what brand you should get, and how many of some thing you should get, in exchange for reasonable prices, then shop here.If you want a wider range of products, want to choose your brands, and want to decide for yourself how much of something you buy (including and especially fresh produce) then dont shop here.Im sure Stop N Shop are celebrating Lidls takeover of Best Market. Im now splitting my shopping between the remaining Best Markets and have again picked up Stop N Shop.
I wanted to like Lidl but the offerings do not make any sense. There’s sparse food offerings and random items like bookends. The baked items smelled good so I’ll give them that. However the deli counter was a joke. Do they know how much Long Island likes their deli meats? I miss Best Market.
I have to say that Ive been doing all my shopping at Lidl since the beginning of COVID-19. I can find nearly 98% of the grocery items my family needs. I find Lidls prices very fair and I find their name brand items very tasty. However, what keeps me coming back is the friendliness of the employees. There is a young man, I didnt catch his name, that is so sweet and so kind. All the staff really are wonderful, so willing to help. I appreciate all you do to make sure shelves are stocked to we can get the supplies we need.
Limited selection but produce was fresh and other food items are all pre packaged. Not sure I would buy those items. Definitely different from Best Market. Sold everything from furniture, clothing and other household items additional to food. Fair prices. Not a specialty food store for sure. Store was very open and bright. Well laid out. A bigger version of a 7-11?
This place is going to be hit or miss depending on your expectations. If you bring ur own bags anyways, and need good quality cheap Staples (think chicken, milk, rice, eggs, tomatoes, bananas, cucumber, cheese, ect), this place is a hands down winner. Its not so big youll spend hours in there looking for what you need. Organic produce is cheaper than anywhere else. Decent selection of most items, even finding some interesting new stuff to try occasionally (like Guatemalan coffee!) HOWEVER, if your the type of person to only stick to your favorite brand name foods /condiments/snacks, or if you are looking for a particular special ingredient, you will NOT like this place. If you like having your choice of 10 to 20 different types of (coffee, muffin, ice cream ect), you will NOT like this place. Personally I find the lack of choices to be an easier shopping experience esp when Im hungry because it takes the decision out of my hands lol. I barely saw any food brands that advertise on TV. But I did see many eclectic food items like pale ale in a pop top bottle, store brand gourmet salsas, plenty of meat cuts to pick from, chili flavored chocolate, date spread, and a lot of local-ish sourced items (look for little signs saying sourced from the east coast, ect). Also, cheap cut flowers in front!
Since they opened the store has provided as much as they could and has kept it up, throughout this pandemic. Always filling up the shelves and someone is always around to help or assist you if or when needed. Thank you Lidl for being open during this time and to all their employees!
Awesome place to shop if youre a Trader Joes or ALDIS fan well youll fit right in. Grest prices on certain items. For best results download the app it has great savings and discounts no need to cut coupons like BJS. The staffers are warm and friendly and they know where to find stuff which is a plus in my opinion. Reasonable prices on German beer and Guinness Stoute if thats your cup of tea. The place is really clean and the shelves are well stocked. Lines were not long on my visit. Lots of room to shop and move around way cheaper than the ALDIS in Brooklyn for sure.
Store is very clean which is nice. The variety of an item is small. Mostly unheard of brands. Some prices very good though.UPDATE , they are offering wipes for the carts at door. The wipes contain NO alcohol or bleach so they offer No protection against Coronavirus. These are the same wipes the cruiseship offered at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Needless to say I caught the virus from the ship.
Lidl sent out a sale flyer Wednesday March 10th I went to purchase.a 2 in one hedge trimmer/chainsaw #313268For $89.99None in stock are expecting 8 only they have 3 stores in the area with a population of approximately 230,000 thats a total of 24 pieces do they really want to do a retail business in our areaNo rain checks! Is this false advertizingNo one in the stores have seen themMarch 11th at 4:05 pm did or are they going to get them? Is it just me ?
For everyone complaining about this store..do your research..its not meant to be like your average grocery store or like best market..its good for what it is and they have great prices. I dont use lidl for major grocery shopping, but there are great products and deals you cant get else where. Plus they are organized, clean and their bakery items are delicious.
Unusual grocery store, you can buy food and socks in the same place. Once you get past the oddity it really is a great place to shop. I have tried a lot of the foods here and they are very tasty even though I dont recognise the brand. Turns out I really love german dark chocolate. I do like getting filet mignon at affordable prices too! Give it a try you might find something you like. Staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and they are concerned about customer safety as well. I feel safe shopping here.
If I could give Negative stars I would. It is less than a shadow of Best Market. I went just before Christmas and the store had None of the items on my list. What a waste of gas and time. Why on earth would anyone shop there? I hope they didn’t take over all the Best markets. > : ( it’s like shopping in Russia but not as robust. Thumbs all the way DOWN!
Great prices, great products, 1 cashier open, slow moving and an accumulating line. This store has progressively gotten more annoying to be in since it’s grand opening. Thank that weird awkward guy that runs the front end and the store’s anti union approach at empowering that guy.
I know this chain already for a long time, from my travels to some European countries. Very happy it brings to US some less known brands, quality products at low, very competitive prices and new marketing ideas. Also, an assortment of non-food products of good quality at extremely low prices. Lidle is the latest of the German grocery chains to expand in the US. (Trader Joes and Aldi).
Really sparse selection. The store feels empty, I left without buying anything which feels really weird when I came here to do grocery shopping. Theres a random assortment of home gardening stuff too, like tree branch loppers. Id be in home Depot if thats what I was looking for. I dont think Ill be back.
NOT A GOOD EXPERINCE, WENT IN THERE ON FRIDAY AT 4:00....THE SHELVES WERE EMPTY, NO EGGS AND THE LAST TIME I WAS THERE I BOUGHT A BAG OF GRAPEFUITS AND A PINEAPPLE GRAPEFUITS WERE SO HARD AND STRINGY AND THE PINEAPPLE WAS BROWN INSIDE. THEY NEED TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACT......I TRIED CALLING THE STORE OR CORPORATE AND THATS IMPOSSIBLE, SO I GUESS THEY ARE NOT TOO CONCERNED ABOUT FEEDBACK. DONT THINK I WILL BE GOING BACK TO SOON........

2022-01-14Love this store! Always clean, and they have great prices! Food is good, and much cheaper than other grocery stores. From flowers, plants, and random merchandise- you can always find a good deal at a great price... Not many well known brands, but still good. Bottle machines are clean as well for bottle returns. However, they only accept Lidl bottles/cans which is fine... but worth knowing. Staff is also very helpful and friendly.

2022-02-20The store has very reasonable prices for common grocery items. Doesnt have as wide a selection as other stores, but its my go-to for majority of my grocery shopping.I havent had any major issues checking out since I use self-checkout only.Strangely, this is the only grocery store where a beggar asked me for money while I was inside the store.

2022-04-10Great small grocery store. Nothing on brand and things come as they’re in season or available. Very reasonable prices. It’s close to home so an easy stop for us. Not a place for regular trips in my opinion.

2019-12-23Finally the store is opened last week , I went their on weekend. Its nice and clean store, aisles are marked good , so its very easy to find the stuff. Bakery section is awesome. Prices are very reasonable .Staff is nice and cooperative. On entrance they have a staff waiting for the shoppers and helping them to download the app for more savings and coupons also distributing free shopping bags and other small gifts.Definitely going back again.

2019-12-19Really enjoyed my visit to the store and I don’t see why the other reviewers were so frustrated. Yes, it does have some not so traditional offerings when you see the sweaters and the T-shirts and some of the appliances around the store but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it offers quite a bit of variety and at really reasonable prices. All the store is trying to do is cater to a Wi-Fi range of shoppers and I think they do that successfully. The store is clean, well lit, and employees and staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help. Will gladly recommend people looking for a new or different shopping experience to try out Lidl as it’s a solid store. I also appreciated the paper bags and contactless payment forms.

2022-01-27I just Ileft the Lido in Huntington and have never been so disappointed by a person working at the register. Yes, the store was busy, but that should not mean that you’re throwing my food, pushing it off the belt so I have to pick it up from the floor and throwing potatoes on top of an egg carton. I understand that we all have bad days, but I had a long day in the office too and I still managed to say hi how are you to you. You can do better, Lidl.

2021-10-08The more I understand about their vibe the more I get why theyre a good place. Im not beating down the door here for produce or deli, but once you get used to the hands off packaging thing, the prices are simply proper, and the quality of all their in-house stuff is rather very nice. Try those chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches, theyre just the right size to not feel guilty and very nice. :-) Ill get back to you when I figure out the meat situation but it looks intriguing... That which does not grow and change is ossified and soon to die.

2021-12-07Good deals, not a fan of the cold cuts. But the worst part is the customer service. The cashiers are rude and the managers are not much better. Not all of the staff are bad but a lot of them are. And they charge .11 cents for paper bags when all other stores are .05 cents.
