Lidl in other cities:
I wish I can take half a star off for how the staff run the store at times. But its a great location, with unlimited parking and shopping center this one is definitely a one stop deal for a party or to restock your home with goods. A couple blocks away you can get the balloons at a different store (dollar tree🤫). They really have everything here and then some. I looovvvveeeee when they get the weekly specials. Great stuff and easy on the wallet
When they opened it was amazing, now it’s always a gamble, because you can never trust they will have anything even stocked. They always have cheese, a bakery stocked with breads, packaged frozen foods, and cereals, and if that’s your thing, great. What is a Hit-or-Miss is the produce, their circular will have great sales, and you get to the store and there is nothing left.I really don’t understand how the way operate…
The quality of the stuff is nice here but management has to work on updating their pricing on their systems. Whenever I go to the cash register, quite frequently the sales price never shows, instead the regular price does. It takes a long time to get a manger on duty to check the discrepancy. Most of the time I have to leave the item behind because this inconvenience takes too much time.
As a European, I was so happy when this store first opened. Finally some good grocery store bread! But thats really the only good thing I can say about this horribly disorganized place. Today there werent even bread bags available!!!! There havent been shopping baskets in at least six months; newsflash, sometimes people arent buying enough to want to lug a cart around. Non-seasonal items are often out of stock with no guarantee when theyll finally reappear. And the prices at this store have pretty much doubled since it first opened. I understand theres high inflation, but not 70-100% inflation. Its not even worth going there now anymore because whatever little money you can save over other grocery stores just isnt worth the headache.
They need better customer service. It was a jarring experience to be scolded by a gentleman working in the produce section because I moved boxes to gain access to a better cantaloupe. Now I am not a Neanderthal and I always put the boxes back - Costco doesn’t have a problem and there is no sign telling customers not to do that. This individual was downright rude and loud and reprimanded me in front of my child with other customers listening in. I spend over 400 dollars at this location monthly and no I wouldn’t want people to be reprimanded etc., but perhaps some additional training might be a bit more useful as I find an alternative to LIDL. A very disappointed customer.
This place has a very open layout and is easy to get from one side of the store to the other. Very nice bakery and deli. Everything is set up and probably the best part are the prices for the products!! Im not joking!! Things like ready made salads, cheeses, coffee creamers, cereals and frozen foods. Its amazing how much I can save there. I hope it lasts 🙏🙏🙏
The more I visit, the more I notice its a hit or miss. I tend to visit early in the morning after school drop off and their dairy aisles are sometimes bare. They also have products one visit and then no where in site the next. Things are good for the price but it definitely isnt a one stop shop
Lidl is getting worse. The most unfriendly, unhelpful and condescending staff I have ever met. I am from Germany and go to Lidl all the time. But I never have experienced so much discontent to put in a days work. Half of the advertised items are sold out, even in the morning at the start of the sale. Prices are constantly rung up with the wrong price. And if they adjust the price to their flyers, they make it seem like they are doing you a favour. In Germany they have a manager and a staff who cares about their customers. Here people dont want to work anymore and shows.
Take your time and try their products out one by one. Some are really good and some are not. Prices are really good. Good for essentials. I highly recommend their oatmeal milk chocolate covered cookies, chocolate covered petit beurre cookies, Belgian chocolates and croissants, Halloumi cheese, organic milk, eggs, butter, pizzas, toilet paper and paper towels. Their hand soap and dish soap are great. No facial tissues though.
This is a cute little store. Their products are generic brands and fairly cheap in price, although Ive never had an issue with the quality of anything from inside the store. They have flowers/plants in the front, which Im always encouraged to buy. Their fruits and veggies come in a large variety and can be a mixture of organic and inorganic. They have a bakery department with some of the most delicious breads and pastries made fresh that day!!Ive purchased all types of meats and have been happy with the qualities. They sell beer too! Customer service is always fantastic and plenty of parking if a car is involved. Sometimes checking-out can take a while, but again everything in the store makes up for the time spent waiting to leave. Highly recommended if youre looking for a cheap alternative to larger and more expensive shopping markets.
This grocery store is a godsend! I shop here all the time! Most of the time on Saturday morning before noon. The prices are very affordable and quality of the items are fresh. Im amazed at the freshness of produce and fruit every time I shop. Even the bakery items bare fresh and delicious and not stale.Staff is very friendly and helpful. At times during peak shopping times the checkout lines can be longer than expected. The store is very well organized where things are laid out and never felt crowded in aisles.Recommend to download the Lidl app to get discounts and rewards on the spending.
Lidl is all right. Its sort of a ballooned-up Trader Joes, bigger in scale but probably not much bigger in inventory options. They do a solid job of covering the basics at low prices, with a majority of the packaged items bearing their own label. The produce selection is a joke compared to a place like Berry Fresh, but I do often get blueberries, strawberries, golden berries (nice!), packages of greens (like arugula), peppers, and tomatoes on the vine here. Their avocados have disappointed me almost every other time Ive bought them. A lot of the produce is wrapped in unnecessary plastic for conveniences sake I guess, but it feels like a waste. Every now and then they offer ugly produce at bottom-of-the-barrel prices, and you should absolutely take advantage of that, I really like that.I also like that they usually have Impossible/Beyond meat in stock for good prices, and nice salmon. I also like their seltzer water, many of them available in a 12-pack for $2-something. They also have a lot of other basics for good prices, eggs, frozen corn, etc. But if youre coming here for options this is the wrong place to go. Want a BBQ sauce? Ha ha, I hope you like Sweet Baby Rays - because bbq sauce with high fructose corn syrup is basically your only option here. Hope you like all of your snacks with crazy high levels of sodium; theres zero in the way of no-salt or low-salt chips. Youve got about one choice of olive oil, maybe two choices of whole wheat pasta, an abysmal beer selection (like one IPA and a ton of pilsners). What drives me crazy is theres a ton of space in here but the same item occupies sometimes yards and yards of the shelf, and theyre often products that I would never choose due to lacking nutrition. I get that this is how theyre saving money, but as a customer its certainly disappointing. I can grab some stuff at Lidl, but always need to supplement it with another grocery store visit (Berry Fresh is my go to)! Also their can return machines are super annoying, *if* theyre working they are almost never updated to accept SKUs they obviously sell, like their own seltzer water brand.
Love the produce here and the products are well priced, but the meat is not fresh. Every time when I come home to cook, I open a package of meat it smells terrible. Really not happy about that and wont be getting meat from here anymore, but otherwise we have been pleased with everything else. Best Market needs to return. Its not fair to all of us that we need to go somewhere else for meat. Waste of money.
Good products, good prices, horrible checkout situation. You have to wait in line in the isles, and so you can’t see when the line in the aisle to the left of you or the aisle to the right of you is shorter than where you are. I have many times seen one line three times longer than the other two lines but the people in that long line don’t realize because the shelving blocks their view of the other lines that are shorter that they should switch to. And I always see constant line cutting where people go from their line to a register that does not match up with their line, often because of confusion about the lines. Trader Joe’s check out design is perfect, efficient, and has been around for long enough that Lidl should have known to copy since they just recently refurbished the store from top to bottom. I’m very disappointed that this brand new Lidl store designed their check out process so poorly. I’m in my mid-50s and I’ve lived in many different places but I have never seen a worse checkout situation than the Astoria Lidl store. Separately, I purchased orange juice from their refrigerator and didn’t realize until I got home that half of it was a solid block of ice. I also saw specialty soda and glass bottles in the refrigerator that had a lot of dust on every bottle, which is only possible if they had been sitting around in a room temperature warehouse for a long time.
I usually do my shopping here, the prices are good and there is parking. Also the aisles are big and comfortable to walk through. My only concern and complain is that all the veggies and fruits are wrapped in plastic, foam packages. A lot of plastic everywhere. As an idea would be cool for these products to be sold by pound, to minimize single use plastics.Thank you !
It is very affordable, clean and has easy parking. Sadly their selection is quite limited, and heavily in favor of prepackaged goods. Also for some reason they often seem to not carry the products they advertise, which is a pain. That said if your looking for basic pantry stocks and are not terribly picky about which brands you want, the this is a good option. If what you want is selection, youll have to visit other grocery stores in the neighborhood.
I just saw the name as I was driving and couldnt resist to stop. This is a very popular supermarket in Europe. To my surprise, it was better. Spacious, well lit, good product selection, CLEAN and reasonable prices with some amazing specials. I buy a lot from Costco, but, it has gotten too expensive lately. If you are an educated consumer, or you work hard for your money, you will be pleasantly surprised at Lidl. Lately, some prices have gone over the roof...I ended up shopping instead of just looking. I felt like I was getting a bargain prior to disappearing. I hope they stay that way!
Great variety and selection of food items at fair prices. Spacious and clean space. On site bakery thats wreaking my diet. Nice and interesting non-food items also at fair prices. Staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. An enjoyable shopping experience. The app applies coupons at checkout. A big help. Id forget my shopping cart if it werent by my door.
Have to say my best experience Since Lidl opened.I had stop going to lidl because Managers there are never helpful always out of product customer service… forget about it, but I meet a gentleman by the name of Johnathan who went above and beyond to help me find everything I needed they were out of some Gorcery’s but he help me find some Substitution. This guy was all over the store I mean everywhere!!!. I have to say lidl you need to have more employees like him!!!!!
Just another big box store. They carry some very well priced items like meat and beer, but this is not a Lidl you would have in Germany. For some reason it feels smaller to me than the former grocery stores in the building. You lose all of the local feels that Best Market and their staff brought to the table, but the store is clean and the employees have their acts together. Not bad all together, and they stull have plenty of parking for those with cars.
This place makes me miss Best Market so much. They have made such poor use of the space that they often don’t carry an item this week that they carried last week, making it pretty wildly unreliable. And it’s beyond what I have come to expect from the craziness that is COVID supply chain disruptions — it’s shockingly inconsistent. But besides that, the meat is fine, the bakery is fine, and the prices are decent. All just good enough to not get a 1-star.
Check your receipt, because a lot of items have the wrong price tag. And when you show it to the store manager you will be treated like its your fault. The cashier and store manager dont care about it.I showed a picture with the item and the tag and they still didnt adjust the price. The personal is rude and dismissive. Dont lure people with low prices and then charge the more at the register.
Many of the store brand items are cheaper than similar products from other stores, but also much poorer quality.Fruit such as blueberries and vegetables such as bagged salads are often moldy or otherwise spoiled. This is the only store where Ive ever picked up a carton of milk and found that it was leaking! Probably from rough handling by employees. Some of the employees are quite rude, but the ones who also worked at the previous store, Best Buy, are very professional.
Excellent prices, good rotating selection of western European products (like sweets from France, currant and gooseberry preserves and tomato juice from Germany etc), good quality fish, inexpensive heirloom tomatoes, rotating selection of toys and household items - all around a great store!
Some of the blueberries were moldy, and still on sale. They must rely on older people like myself not noticing and buying them. They didnt have the coffee Ive bought there in the past. You never know if youll find something you really like that theyve had in the past.Saturday morning I was buying the ingredients for nachos, in preparation for watching 3 college football games in a row.A woman on line behind me made a condescending comment about the junk I was buying, and the cashier added her own rude comment! This wasnt the most obnoxious behavior Ive encountered from an employee, but it was annoying, and inappropriate.I could pay more money for the same items at Food Universe and deal with polite, even friendly, South Asian and Latino employees, but right now I choose to save money at Lidl.
Lidl recently opened in the foot print left behind by Best Yet Supermarket in Astoria. My family loved Best Yet and we were incredibly sad to see it go. Fortunately we got another gem in that same space!Lidl is very inviting with its open flow. Many of the displays are smaller than the average supermarket shelving and the low, hip height refrigerated cases add to the open air flow as well. The layout and even the quality of their products is very similar to Aldis - another family favorite! Their sales flyer announced many items and despite it being almost a week after their grand opening, I found everything I was looking for from that weeks sales! Normally those items are long gone 3-4 days into the sale.Regarding quality and price - we purchased fresh meat, produce and dairy. Every item we have prepared has been delicious and again, fresh. Best part - a fraction of the cost of other chain supermarkets in the area, and double the quality!!Very pleased with our experience and we will return weekly. It is our hope that Lidl is here to stay!!
The place is great, most of the employees are nice. But some of cashier girl has an attitude. They forgot we are customer. I did bunch of shopping so I and my husband were filling items on shopping bag but she was rushing us for the payment which is so ridiculous. Literally we did not take even a minute.
Its like thrift shopping for food.In the same footprint as the supermarket before them, they somehow managed to reduce their capacity to about half the products that best yet held. What this store does hold is a very narrow selection of of hit or miss products. It just baffles me with how they utilized a space so poorly, especially when they had a great template before it to base it off of.I cant really think of any highlights that would put this ahead of any other supermarket, every that isnt a problem is just kind of standard(staff, cleanliness prices etc)If you like thrift stores, five below, or clearance sales but wished they were filled with food this place is for you.
Once upon a time we had an AMAZING supermarket called Best Market. It had everything you could want and more. A full deli, a large selection of delicious hot food made fresh, a salad bar, a fresh sushi station, a full bakery, a cheese department, a fresh fish department, a butcher, and a fully stocked supermarket with a wide variety of products. They had plenty of gluten free products my family needed as well. And then it was bought by Lidl and turned into the poorest excuse for a market Ive ever seen.Lidl is awful. There is no variety. Its either Lidl brand or nothing. The produce section is terrible, small, and full of over ripe fruits and veggies past their prime. It had none of the fresh full service departments we once had. Everything is prepackaged. I cant even select my own apples because theyre already packaged. The deli case is pathetic, poorly stocked, thick cut and poor quality cold cuts. There is no rhyme or reason to this store. I can buy a really cheap kiddie pool, or a fire proof safe, or a bathrobe, but they dont have taco shells. While they do have good prices, it doesnt really matter. This is not a place where I can do my weekly grocery shopping for my family because they are lacking in so much.Lidl took the place of an amazing one stop shopping location that offered everything, and replaced it with a bargain basement store thats ruined the neighborhood.
Incredible prices, clean and well organized but selections are limited. Great place to stock up on basics like milk, eggs, flour. Some name brands but mostly feature store brands but I dont mind if I can pay $1.35 for a dozen eggs. The store brands seen to be good quality. In-store bakery.
Best Market this store is not. The produce section is a quarter of Best Markets. No fresh butcher or fish monger. Are the prices cheap? Sure, but the products are hit or miss. Shopping here for groceries is like shopping at the dollar store for groceries. The staff was very nice and helpful though which is the only reason I left any stars at all. Ill be driving 20 min back to Shoprite.
Who is my first time inthis specific supermarket chain and m first time back to this supermarket since they switched hands and renovated. The lanes in isles are much more sensibly set up. I’m pretty sure that it’s much more accessible because there is less brand options on shelve. Not really a bad thing it makes for a quicker shopping experienceI would have to say they have a great selection of bread and baked goods. The old supermarket had lots of hot food options for lunch and they would make sandwiches for you there where this deli does not make sandwiches nor do they have any hot food. The reason I would go here is for lunch so it makes for less options for eating in the neighborhood.
Sure, its a couple of days before Thanksgiving, and everyone is shopping, but for a supermarket, they should be prepared. Yesterday, at 2 in the afternoon there wasno kraft american cheeseno bread or baguettesonly rotten tomatoes left overentire shelves across the store completely emptyno cat foodnot even canned cornobviously no turkeys frozen or freshno lactaid milkwhichever manager prepared for this week should prob be in serious trouble bc clearly they havent restocked anything. Not a good look.
Nice store but rude customers LOL. Smaller selection than I’d hoped for overall but nice variety of meats. There was no cabbage...why? An employee confirmed that every checkout line is separate yet I was watching customers in the line next to mine fighting about who’s next because they incorrectly assumed they were being cut from a different line. Clear signage might be helpful to circumvent that issue going forward.
This is a poor replacement for the supermarket that was at this location before. The produce selection and freshness are poor. The meat prices are ok, but the variety isnt there. Also, they sell items you normally wouldnt see in a supermarket. If I want a folding picnic table, Ill go to home depot NOT a grocery store. They make poor use of the space. Best is missed.
Worst supermarket Ive been to, even after 2 visits. Staff is nice but they miss the mark on what a supermarket is supposed to offer. Deli that doesnt cut to order; missing items like fresh herbs and very limited produce; mostly no brand items with no brand alternatives for consumers to decide (which is why they can claim it being a low price store), plus couldnt find things like jello and some other basics. The Walmart branded equivalent has better value which is why I shop in Long Island after Best Market closed. Aldi would have been a a much better German market option, if American markets wanted to avoid Astoria. Its just sad that we cant have a decent supermarket in our area.
Granted, this is opening week so everything was merchandised to the 9s. Wide aisles, friendly staff, great prices. Bought some sourdough fresh from the oven. Doesnt have quite the selection of the other european grocery stores in the neighborhood but honestly the low prices will reel me back in.
Unable to get the cold cuts you want sliced the way you want them because theres no counter service. A lot of items are sold in large quantities and prepackaged. You walk in to the left, which is backward. The entire store flows backwards which is aggravating in and of itself. The produce section is small and they were out of a lot of product. The strawberries that were left were rotten. Why are they selling ! It feels like a factory and they just want to move you out. This is not what were need. If you actually cook youll be at multiple stores. Not the product they promised. They should have left best alone and added in their products.
Not very happy with this supermarket I have been to the ones in Europe and this one is nothing in comparison to those. Very limited options and brands. The meats and fish were priced good but I cant speak for their quality yet. Overall I wont be going back. Theres many better options in this neighborhood. Very disappointed because I love the Lidl supermarkets in Europe.
Its a really interesting grocery store. Its almost like a treasure hunt if youve never been there before. You can obviously get any staples that youre looking for but they only carry one or two brands of everything (usually at least one of their store brand) so I wouldnt recommend going in with a very specific shopping list. Regardless the quality is quite good and the prices are solid. The store is purposefully laid out such that you kind of have to go to every aisle, but its pretty well spaced out (albeit crowded since it just opened) so be warned that it may be a bit longer in store (Id recommend doing the middle of the store first, then produce around the outside through to the frozens then checkout).
Good parking. Modern store with large isles and good variety of items at very competitive prices. Many European items and many Lidl branded items, competing favorably with local groceries and supermarkets, even Costco. Selection of clothes, tools, houseware, toys, etc. refreshed weekly on Wednesdays. Easy checkout with or without their smartphone app, which is very simple and keeps track of your spending and the many coupons you get based on that. Meaningful website with weekly offers, recipes, and store finder. Free WiFi.
Amazing deals when they send coupons otherwise packaging and choices are meh.Best bakery in Astoria, worth visiting for fresh bread alone. If youre European youll be delighted to know that here you can find everything from French and rustic baguette to German seeded black bread and sourdough. Dinner rolls are fresh hourly and excellent too.TLDR: Bread great rest meh.
Honest review.I WAS NOT BLOWN AWAY. All the hype in Social Media, and a dissapointment. I find that I still het the best bang for my buck at Aldi. The Bakery selection, did not impress me. Yes , I did get some items. Comming from The Bronx to the only Lidl in the city I had to get some items. Will I return again, thats my personal business. The check out was quick and Lidl has a rewards program. Im not going to be a hard @ss! I dont live in the area, so I dont know what the prices are elsewhere.
The single most obnoxious grocery store I’ve ever been too. There was a very loud high pitch noise the entire time I was shopping. After alerting an employee it stopped for a minute and then continued. The mobile carts also make a constant loud beeping noise even when stopped. Not worth it
A big store and mostly what Id expect from a Lidl, good prices and foods, but it may not be the best for Vegetarians/Vegans.Unfortunately as a vegetarian, fond of fake meats, I found their lack of meat substitute options severely disappointing. They only had ground beef, hamburger, and breakfast sausage patty options from Beyond meats (and their own store brand version of the same) and a veggie mush patty, not even veggie hot dogs, sausages, or deli cuts of any kind (I looked extensively twice with no luck), which is surprising given Lidls German roots. Having shopped in Lidls in Europe, this was particularly disappointing as there are some phenomenal options over there, especially in the sausage and deli meat sections I would have sorely loved to see brought over (wheaty and viana brands to name a few). Sadly this probably means it doesnt make sense for me to shop here regularly despite how close it is, but for most non vegetarians it seems a good place to go.
Brand new place in Astoria Queens. just off of Ditmars and Steinway. lot of German products, not used to all the items, not a full Supermarket as you usually expect. more like a Costco style. limited selection of items. For example they got tomato ketchup or Heinz Ketchup. Two choices. Have to buy their brand.
I am european so Im very pleased to see some familiar brands and products coming to my neighborhood. The store it self is clean, reasonably organized but a bit limited on assortment. Very similar to Aldi supermarkets. I recommend imorted cookies from Holland, Cafe Noir and Stroop wafels!
I used to shop at Lidl when I lived in Europe, so I had very high hopes for this store. I’ve gotta say, I’m super disappointed. I have *never* seen so much single use plastic in my life. I understand it’s impossible to avoid completely, but Lidl’s plastic footprint is straight up careless—they’re taking our planet to hell in a shopping basket. On top of that, there is very little by way of specialty products for plant-based eaters. Lidl’s new slogan is “Rethink grocery.” I think they need to go back to the drawing board.
They have everything in this supermarket except an extra mask for their customers. Dropped my mask in the parking lot and it was unsanitary, I had asked the manager, associate, along with a cashier and none of them had a mask. Now here I am, standing outside unable to shop due to me not having a mask on.
Lido Astoria is finally open, todays day too there is a lot of people already I stop by around 9:30 in the morning. I thought it was parking, but being the only little store in Queens and new, Im sure youre going to fight for these slot. So go super early when they just open in the morning to avoid crowd. They are giving away $10 off $30 coupons for future purchases, I believe is for new opening I dont think it will last forever.

2022-02-18So its like a crossover supermarket. Meaning, they carry a lot of their store brand and just a little of name brand items. The bakery dept has a nice variety of baked goods. The meat dept has a nice selection of cuts in different price ranges. Produce prices were the same as everywhere else. Dairy prices are lower though. All in all, if youre close by stop in. For me it was a bit far, so it wouldnt be my go to when I have Trader Joes a few blocks from home.

2022-03-01The selection is incredible! Great prices, even lower for some products than Aldi. Wish they had Lidl in Jackson Heights, Queens.

2022-02-15I loved it. My husband loved it too. Phenomenal prices. Everything fresh. My first time there and I am super impressed. I saved close to $90. What would have cost close to $300 cost $212. We will definitely be back. Very clean

2022-04-05My family and I come here 2 to 3 times a week. Never had an issue ever. The employees are always accomodating and nice. NoT TODAY!!The indian female cashier asked me how many bottles where in the bag. The return machine wasnt working I told her. I dont know like 11 or 12. Normally when I bring them in the cashier counts them. I have never been asked how many i had. Then she called the manager and said manager handle this. Unprofessional she was. The manager showed up. I told him the same thing that i told the cashier. He said count it thats not his job and they dont do that. Im like there are like 12 bottles. Horrible rude manager. Me and ohter people laughed when he comes on the floor eating a chocolate ice cream. I told him he is unprofessional for eating an ice cream in front of custoners while working. He said mind your business Im not supposed to be here today. I said who cares if youre not supposed to be here. Youre here now eating ice cream very unprofessional. It shows you dont want to be here. He needs to be fired!!!!!!!

2022-03-22Update after several months: Little disappointed that a lot of shelf’s are constantly empty. Pretzels made me fat! A lot of junky food. Still shopping here on a regular basis though.Still true: If you live in Astoria there are better options for fresh produce and specialty items but Lidl is great for their store brand staple foods (flour, sugar, eggs, cheese and chocolate), very affordable canned items like diced tomato’s and beans...bakery section (pretzels!!!) and frozen items (seafood and vegetables).Very affordable and great coupons too. Will be shopping here on a regular basis.

2022-06-26Great prices, house brand items are as good as name brand. Shelves are generally well stocked and the lines at the register isn’t usually too long. I haven’t had a bad experience at this market and I’ve gone since it opened pre-pandemic. Very happy with the workers and management of this establishment!

2022-05-19Friendly staff. Helpful. The meat section needs to be monitored better. Most of rib eye steaks were with expiration dates already and mixed with newer ones I bought one home that was already 7 days old. Young lady I spoke to took care of the problem so maybe next time will get 5 star. I threw out the rib eye but I should have bought it back to bring it to there attention earlier.
