Lidl in other cities:
Lidl does not have a lot of name brand variety, but has many of the general items needed. Yes they have no sushi or a large variety of Boars head meats/Cold cuts. They do have enough fruits and vegetables to put on your table for dinner. All items are reasonably priced.
Jeffrey is the rudest cashier I have ever encountered. All the Mums were labeled $3.99 on the outside shelves and when I took it to the register they rang up $4.99. Jeffrey yelled at me that I did not know how to read and that it was only $1 difference. Thankfully another employee came over and completed the sale and apologized for his behavior.Jeffrey also screamed that he hopes my plants died. I do not stock the shelves or label the prices.Maybe Jeffrey should be kept in the back unloading trucks and stocking shelves at night instead of dealing with the public.
This ultra discount grocery does not belong in upscale Westhampton Beach. NO PEPSI ONLY COKE! Almost NO name brand items! NO LOW FAT or Popular ICE CREAMS! No MAXWELL HOUSE only FOLGERS! NO barbecue chickens! Are we in a detention camp? Can we make a trade for different grocery chain? Trade for Stop and Shop?
I am happy Lidl is in Westhampton Beach. I stopped by over the weekend and picked up a large amount of groceries for a very low price. Ignore the entitled citiot reviews. Lidl had many varieties of eggs, caged and free range, also good beverages, and a nice selection of cheeses.
I loved Best Market as much as the next person and was disappointed to hear it had been bought out, but Lidl is not the travesty people are describing. Its spacious, clean and well-organized with wide aisles. The produce section is good with reasonable prices on basics plus salad mixes and convenience items like chopped mixes for soups, pre-chopped fruit, etc. The meat section, bakery and dairy areas are decent. There are plenty of snack items for kids and adults. The selection definitely feels weird at first, to Americans used to having loads of options in terms of brands for canned goods, ice cream, condiments, drinks etc, and to having them available all the time and not seeing changes in inventory. I couldnt find Hellmans Mayo but I did find Dukes, which is good stuff that is popular in the South. I found fancy crackers I had never seen before but no Carrs, and nice imported Italian tomato sauce but no other option. That sort of thing. But they had Daves bread, Chobani yogurt (though not much of it), rainbow carrots, Tates Cookies, fresh pre-sliced deli meat, and decent cheese. I was able to find plenty of things for my visiting young nieces and nephews, and basically everything I needed to make dinner. In other words, its a perfectly good place to do your main grocery shopping. So, honestly, its a change and it will take some adjustment but the change is not all bad. Its a clean, well-run store with all the basics, some interesting additions and high-end stuff, and good prices. Its not the end of the world.
I was pleasantly surprised by Lidl. I liked Best Market but i welcome an european touch. I am not crazy about well established brands, e.g., Smuckers, Pepsi or Boar head. I missed Bon Maman but the german marmelades are decent and inexpensive. I love access to German Pielsen or Wheat Beer at 1$ the large bottle and different types of wurst so that you can have the right combinations of wurst and beer. Excellent croissants at 50c. Excellent arabic bean coffees from Guatemala and Colombia at $4 are unbeatable; no comparison with Folgers or other big brands Good Seed bread is heavenly for toast and sandwiches. Very good prosciutto; I dont miss Boarhead.products. Good selection of cheeses. I dont mind frozen fish as normally I freeze the fish anyway when I get home. If I want oysters and real fresh fish, I go to the fish market. As an Argentine, I found the meat I needed for barbecue and the skirt steak was more tender than at Best Market and half the price. I found all the vegetables and fruit I needed; If I want real fresh Boston lettuce, I go to the East Quogue vegetable market. I miss all the different varieties of apples at Best Market but LIDL has Honeycrisp, which we like the most. And blueberries and other berries are there at excellent price. If I need an American supermarket I have Stop and Shop, King Kullen as well as Costco nearby. If I want to over pay, I go to Citarella. I had a super full cart at the end and I thought it would hurt $500 but I ended paying $250. As a recently retired physician, I appreciate the good prices.
In German and Yiddish, Lidl (pronounced Leedle), means song. And like a song some will like it and some wont. It all depends on the shopping experience one prefers. Well be back for many products, but will look elsewhere for deli foods, fresh meats, fresh seafood, and poultry.
I see a bunch of negative reviews from stuck up individuals who expect a supermarket to tend to every single need of their daily lives. Sorry, this is your typical grocery store with your everyday items. If you want a ultra-perfect grocery store, take the hour drive to a Whole Foods or something. Or if you are so desperate for discounts, go to Walmart.
I got a mailing of a “$10 off your purchase of $10 or more” in big letters. I needed $15-$20 of groceries so this was a perfect way to get acquainted with Lidl. Before I left I decided to read the fine print, so small I couldn’t read it with glasses and had to get a magnifying glass. There it says I have to purchase $30 or more. Really??I then called the National phone number and got the “that’s what it is” answer.I may try Lidl in the future but only if I’m desperate and it’s the only choice.
Was there any market research done by Lidl before purchasing this location? A few tips for you Lidl. Worst meat department ever. No butcher ? This is Westhampton Beach and you dont sell packs of pre made hamburgers or chicken? I guess you think no one BBQs here. Tip #2 Sell local produce from local farmers. Have you not noticed all the farms and farm stands? Save the individually wrapped vegetables for NYC. TIp #3 Get a deli and seafood department. Tip #4 buy a book about the history of the east end, farms and fishing made this area. Try supporting them.
I just went to Lidl for the first time. It is a substantial downgrade from Best Market. I’m not a big reviewer, but felt compelled to post something. If your sales pitch is “Try it! It’s not as bad as you think!” you’ve already lost. The age-old expression “You get what you pay for” could not be more apparent. If there is any upside, the local small businesses should benefit as a result.
My first experience at Lidl was complete disappointment. Weird, haphazard layout, basics that arent carried, out of stock on staples, packaged produce, and on and on. This should never be the only option in a town. Its not really a full service market. Its really an oversized corner fill-in store. Awful!!
A Frankenstein store- imagine bits of BJs, Aldi, Trader Joes mish mashed together. Good prices with a very limited selection. Okay if you need something in a pinch, but not a one stop shop. We will be going to Riverhead or Eastport or ordering on line for most of our groceries. A significant amount of space is devoted to seasonable items which is just odd.
This is a discount / warehouse supermarket with no name brands, no prepared foods, lots of frozen and processed foods. This place is the WORST and such a disappointing downgrade from the previous market. We will have to shop elsewhere , go to Riverhead , what a pain !

2022-06-30Lidl, in Westhampton Beach, is a lovely place to shop. The variety of items is super not to mention the good prices. Catherine, the store manager, is knowledgeable, professional, customer focused, and a problem solver. Her employees show the same attributes.

2021-06-01Best grocery store in United StatesIgnore the nonsensical reviews decrying the lack of Pepsi (tho I imagine you already have). Lidl is the second main grocery store in Germany (slightly better than its larger rival Aldi) and has adapted its format very well for the US market. High quality products at very reasonable prices but you don’t get 15 brands of ketchup. Well guess what, I don’t need 15 brands of Ketchup.Like many folks, I plan to do my weekly shop here on the way back into NYC from WH which over the summer should save thousands of dollars.

2021-12-05How is this the only store without self checkout?!? If you are not going to offer self checkout, please schedule cashiers appropriately. My cashier was HOURS over her scheduled shift and the ONLY cashier open, that lines were wrapped around the aisle. All the manager could say is they were shorthanded and let her get yelled at. How about the manager hops on a register if there is no other help available. Also how dare they tell any employee they are not allowed their breaks or a lunch and they are not allowed to leave until someone else shows up. Lidl you are a grocery store not a hospital or fire department. This is not only your store. I know that it is also the same in other stores like ShopRite. Maybe you could get employees if you stop abusing them and stop letting them be abused by customers.

2021-05-28Is Lidl as great as Best Market? No. Is it the worst thing that’s ever happened to Westhampton? No. Sure, they don’t have a lot of name brand products which is understandably frustrating. However, I think the food they have there is pretty reasonable for the prices they have. I will say that I do really like the low prices, and friendly staff. It’s fairly organized and the checkout counters are modern. It’s encouraged my family and I to branch out and try new brands that we haven’t before, and we were presently surprised. For most of the name brand items I need, I can go over to Walgreens to get stuff like ice cream, drinks, etc. They also have a lot of organic stuff which is good as well. I was able to find high quality organic eggs and milk with no problem, and tasted amazing. I don’t think it deserves all the hate that it’s getting, but there is definitely still room for improvements!

2021-11-06You will notice less people shop here now, best market was a lot better. but I tried shopping here until I bought bad meat and bad yogurts, both at the same time and still within expiry date. but two rotten items within expiry date only makes me think that they do not re stock properly. I hope I am wrong, but I am not shopping here anymore.P.S they did refund me no questions ask when i brought the bad meat back. but when i got home and opened the bad yogurt, its just not worth it to go back.

2021-11-25Lidl is one of the best brands in Europe stores. Excellent pizza from Italy, amazing tiramisu and especially the bakery section is nice compared with pricey bakeries around! Store doesmnt have the presentation of other way more expensive stores but what you want? Cheaper prices for meat, oil, water, bakery and many more or fancy stores w fancy prices? I shop every week there and was happy that they have branches in Riverhead,Patchoque,Shirley to name few. What I don t find here I will use other stores more probably the Riverhead area has lots of options...including cheaper gas!
