Inflation is up and everything is expensive, but $15 for chicken soup and no chicken in it is obscenely spiteful to a customer traveling far in hopes of something decent. If this placed goes out of business it won’t be for a changing demographic but fed up customers. Good luck
Old world charm with super-friendly staff.Ordered the combination Pastrami & Corned Beef sandwich which comes stacked high with loads of finely sliced meats. My wife and I had were full eating just one sandwich! They also plunked down a bowl of pickles and coleslaw - probably the best I have ever had.Its a must do for anyone who is trying the NY City of old movies. Make sure you are not in a rush when you visit them in the Bronx - its a place to experience and take in.
We live in Southern Virginia, however born in Brooklyn and raised in Los Angeles but now living where breakfast is biscuits and gravy, and lunch or dinner may be a pulled pork sandwich, and hotdogs might cost 3 for $1.00 you miss the food you grew up on well My dear wife ordered me a pastrami sandwich, from your deli , and I have to tell you that the cost of this sandwich may not only become a staple in my home perhaps once a month or so but it may just save me a trip to NY because now that I know I can order food from the Deli and probably a good Chinese restaurant as well I don’t have much need to take that trip to NY that I have been longing to take. Thank you it was awesome and I am full it was a great sandwich.
Old school kosher deli thats been around for 40 to 50 years. Food is always been consistently good. The place needs a major updating the seats are very uncomfortable and its very dark. But if you feel like old school kosher food this is the place to go there arent a lot of very good coach Billys left in the area but this one shines above the rest. Prices are a little higher than of the kosher deluge that I go to but not exorbitant. I believe they brine their own pickles. Which is definitely a plus. Coleslaws also top notch. The meats are not fatty and overstuffed the way I like them
We were traveling between Philly and central Connecticut, when we decided to get some great NY Jewish deli food. A search led us to Liebmans. The menu is very promising. The result is very mixed. The tongue and the inventive potato pancake are excellent. The cold-cuts omelette was very good, but a large piece of very fatty corned beef was buried within. The brisket was dry and flavorless, the potato and kasha knishes have good wrappers, but the fillings are very mediocre (mein bubbes taam). The kasha varnishes were also just so-so. The prices were as if everything was superb.
We dont have a lot of kosher delis in Kansas, and I wanted to get my Jewish wife something special for dinner for our anniversary. So I ordered from Liebman’s via Goldbelly, and Im so glad I did. That was some of the best corned beef Ive ever had, and the matzo ball soup was just to die for. The pickles are just perfect too; just a little tangy and perfectly crunchy. And those knishes! One day, well make it out to New York. And when we do, I cant wait to visit Liebmans in person.
My review is based on an order placed via Goldbelly. Our order came with corned beef, pastrami, rye bread, coleslaw, pickles, potato knish, matzah ball soup, mustard and assorted rugelach.I dont even know where to start - everything was amazing and delicious and comforting all at once. My pastrami sandwich was easily the best one Ive ever had - the pastrami was on another level - expertly sliced thin and just melted in your mouth.....the rye bread sturdy but still soft with a slight chew to the crust and a depth of flavor that should make most rye breads hang their heads in shame.... the mustard creamy and rich with just enough tang - the perfect compliment to the meat and bread. And I believe Im officially addicted to Liebmans pickles now! This was also our first time ever trying a knish - I couldnt have asked for a better introduction to that bundle of pillowy carb-a-licious joy! The cole slaw was creamy, crunchy perfection. And the matzah ball soup.....I cant even find the words, so let that speak for itself. The hardest part of eating this meal is pacing yourself to completely savor and enjoy every last bite. Now if youll excuse me, I hear the pickles calling my name......
Today I ate lunch with my family (a party of 5) and our experience was quite poor. There are a number of things we would like to share:1) They got every order wrong.2) We waited a very long time for our food, and at that moment it wasn’t particularly crowded so we are not sure what the delay was.3) They also took a very long time to bring our drinks, and needed to be reminded. The water was also quite warm.4) There was only one waiter serving all the tables. This is not his fault of course. Please hire more wait staff, especially during peak hours/weekends.
Service was terrible. when my boyfriend and I got potato pancakes, mine tasted stale and chewy, the waitress dropped the check with it still on the bill even after I told her something about it was off compared to my boyfriend it tasted bad. She told me there is nothing she can do. Only after asking if I could speak to someone, the cook came over to tell me “oh that’s because yours was microwaved”.The prices also are not correct on the menu. Would not go back unless they get a manager and staff who are organized and know how to work in the service industry.
Sadly the quality of the counter staff has changed so has the quality and pricing $12.00 for a quart of matzoball soup. Counter staff did not know the difference between potato or noodle kugel. 4 hotdogs, 3 sodas, quart of soup, 1 potato kugel side $58.60. Needless to say my wife and I will not be going back anytime soon.
The deli is great, but they need to work on their delivery process a little more (the kitchen made one sandwich wrong despite the correct notes on the ticket and nobody bothered to check the order before sending it out).I suspect we would have had a much better experience in person, but COVID19 and all....If you do order from them online I’d suggest calling to confirm afterward. Not sure if it would have changed anything, but might have helpedUPDATE: This happened over a weekend and I was told someone in charge would call me back on Monday. Nobody ever called me. Take that for what you will....
I ordered 2 corn beef sandwiches and was charged $42. I thought she was making a bad joke but she was stone cold serious. What shock me even more was that the lettuce still had soil and the bread and corn beef was regular ..not outstanding like they claim. The 207th Broadway C-town corn beef sandwiches are huge and delicious & only $10 to $12 for 2 sandwiches. I will never return to be taken advantage of ... terrible experience here and disappointed.
The food is okay but what we found to be unexpected were the prices. $20 for a pastrami sandwich! Ouch! And that was only for the sandwich without fries or drinks. There was three of us that day and each ordered a pastrami sandwich with fries and a drink. Again there were no other extras. Total cost $108! WTH? Thats far more than Zabars on the Upper West Side (and Zabars pastrami sandwiches are by far superior).I really could not understand how they remain in business. Unless you were desperate I would go elsewhere.
The food and service is amazing. The pastrami is exactly how it should be, moist succulent and cooked perfect. The coleslaw and pickles and the perfect pairs for any of their meals. Everything is fresh. Service was great. The servers were prompt and courteous. I frequent this place weekly. A must try.
This could be the archetype for the New York Jewish deli. Its a hike without a car, but for those who drive, theres a parking lot behind (youll have to walk around the block to the front door). Inside, friendly staff greets you and can regale you with stories as you eat on a slow, rainy day among the regulars. Of course the pastrami was excellent, and the matzoh ball in the soup dense and perfect. Even the humble hot dog shone, with a snappy casing and a bit of spiciness in every bite. Well worth a detour to see a bit of old New York.

This isn’t a remnant of the classic kosher delis, it’s the best of the best, equal to any of the celebrated greats. When you walk in, you’ll find it’s buzzing with activity, a clue that there is enough traffic to guarantee the pastrami will be perfectly steamed. After the crowd, you’ll be overcome by the intoxicating aroma of the franks, pickles and pastrami and the rest. These franks have the casing so they pop when you bite, just like back in the day. The deli case at the entrance is so perfectly arranged it’s a work of art that will have you salivating and considering options besides the giant melt in your mouth sandwiches. Im told they they cure and slow cook the pastrami themselves. The chicken soup is perfect but they can be a bit too generous with the noodles. It’s a theme at Liebmans- more than any human should ever eat but good luck stopping. This place can go head to head with any of the best delis you remember.
Five of us had lunch today. They feature both indoor and outdoor dining under covered spaces. We ate outside in deference to higher risk of Covid friends. Service was friendly, attentive and reasonably prompt. We ordered outstanding noodles and kreplach soup, large pastrami sandwiches (enough even if split for two) and brisket sandwiches. They even have three flavors of diet soda. One dish to avoid—do not order the Mediterranean falafel or combination plates. Our friend found the salad snd the falafel very good but found the hummus, baba ganouche and other sauces pretty tasteless. Leave Mediterranean cuisine to Arab, Turkish and Greek restaurants. However this restaurant is a great find for authentic kosher style Jewish cuisine, the last deli of its type in the Bronx!
I went to Liebmans for lunch with a friend. The pastrami sandwich was prepared just right and large enough to share. The matzoh ball soup was not salty and fresh. A fried potato knish was crispy. The sandwich was served wil lots of coleslaw and kosher pickles.Liebmans is a return to an era where a restaurant staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy. I will soon return
You cannot get a more authentic than this place. With famous delis like Katzs stealing the spotlight, spots like these are slowly dying out. The small restaurant looks like it hasnt changed since the 1950s, making for a cozy casual atmosphere.Outstanding service, perfectly crunchy and tangy pickles, and the deli meat portions are abundant and delicious.Worth the hike from any borough.
I know it is Kosher, however, my husband ordered Pastrami on Rye and I had Herring with Bagel and Cream Cheese. Yes, you heard it right. My husband ate meat while I enjoyed my cream cheese next to him. Not sure how kosher this this. Food is either hit or miss. There are things that are wonderful and things that are not so great. But overall, this is a great stopover for a Jewish Family. I like this place.
One of our local favorites. Great renditions of deli classics. A little pricey but portions are huge and quality is excellent. I am a matzo ball soup fanatic, and theirs is very good (traditional). Sandwiches are great, love the pastrami and corned beef, though the brisket is not my favorite here (its ok). The platters are good, Im a big fan of turkey Thanksgiving Dinner type platters and theres is the diner ideal. When youre in the mood, it really hits the spot. I wasnt as crazy about the meatloaf, maybe to big so it was too wet and heavy? But in general, very good.
Amazing food! Try the pastrami, honestly the best Ive ever had and I have been to a lot of kosher delis in my lifetime. Our server was so nice, I hope you find him. He always said hed make something himself, salad or such. When my nephew got four small Black and White cookies for dessert he gave each of his parents, his uncle (me), and even my mother one. He was all smiles about it---leaving him one small cookie. Our server said he would do something special for him and brought over a large platter of big cookies allowing him to chose (he chose the one with all black sprinkles; good choice) one.The soup was wonderful, as was the potato pankcakes my mother shared. Great food, service, and open Christmas day :)
Its not Kosher, not that that matters to me. But the positive reviews here are fake. The place is quite filthy. The tables are greasy, the condiments are in dirty, greasy dispensers that look like they have never been cleaned, and the food is no better than low-grade commercial variety. My kids - and kids usually dont complain about cleanliness - refuse to eat there. So be advised. The positive reviews are just not true.
I have been eating here for years! I grew up with grandparents from Riverdale, father lived on 236th and have been coming in since FOREVER. I stopped in the other day for a quick soup as I was feeling under the weather. know that they dont have a GF option for the noodles I ordered a broth with 2 pickles and a small container of chicken salad (for my mother). I was charged 5.99 for broth, 5.00 for 2 pickles and 8.00 for my chicken salad. Im ok with the over paying for pickles and chicken salad as I have been over paying at this place for years and its my fault for going back. But 5.99 for BROTH. The bowl of soup with NOODLES is 5.49. Needless to say I will not be frequenting Liebmans any more. Its a real shame as I know 1. Its not Kosher 2. It was a highlight of my month to go get lunch there and finally the staff changed as I can see so did the integrity.
This is a meat kosher restaurant, so not at all appropriate for vegans. Its not too great for vegetarians, either. Even the potato & kasha knishes have chicken stock in them. But the potato latkes were fantastic, the half sour pickles the best and the waiter we had was very attentive in a gruff sort of way. If you want a meat-stuffed sandwich, though, I bet you cant do better.
I’ve been going to Leibman’s since I was a teenager when it was owned by the Umansky’s, the 2nd owner. I didn’t have much of an appreciation for the quality of the food but it was always good. By the time the 3rd owner, Yose Dekel, owned the deli I was hooked and hoped it wouldnt change. It did not. It became a weekly staple to go and buy those amazing meats. Unfortunately, Yose passed away too young, but his son Yuval stepped up and filled these very large shoes. Yuval has maintained the standard of quality that he inherited.I travel from CT several times a year to get my fix of brisket, pastrami and other goodies, especially for the high holidays. Really, who wants to cook when you can get high quality food. The deli has a small entryway, and the line forms inside and out if you plan to takeout. It gets a little crowded. Some folks get “frustrated “ with the wait. All I can say is that the wait is worth it. You won’t get anything like this anywhere else.I wish continued success to Yuval and his family.L’shana tova.
Delicious! Overpriced? Well, sure. But delicious! Kosher meat is expensive, especially in NY so thats what youre paying for. If you come here go straight for the ethnic meats (corned beef, pastrami, tongue), have some cole slaw and a half-sour, then order a Dr Browns soda to wash it down. Everything else you can probably get someplace else :)
I have been a longtime resident of Riverdale, have frequented Liebmans deli. I recently purchased one pastrami and one corned beef sandwich, very lean, small portion of coleslaw and 2 pickles and was charge $ 42.75. I was appalled at the cost of this meal, especially being charged $ 3.00 for each sandwich because I requested lean meat. The prices have drastically increased, which explains why his clientele has thinned out considerably. The food is good and fresh but far too expensive, this is not Manhattan where these prices would be comparable too.
Wayyyyyy better than katz!!!!! The sandwhich could be a little pricey(about $17) but its so worth it, the amount of pastrami they give is alot and it melts in your mouth. I will be coming back alot more often. Also try the matzah ball soup taste just like my grandmas!
If you enjoy adding 2 hours of uncertainty to your day, then order delivery from this place. If you enjoy patronizing an establishment where every other customer has priority over you, then order delivery from this place. I am not one of these people so unfortunately I cannot comment on the food. Its a shame because its one of the only Jewish delis up in this corner of NYC.
Ive been going to in Liebman’s Deli in Riverdale for over five years... at least once a week for soup & tuna & sit down dinners. I even use Grubhub to order from them a good $60 meal. So today I go in for my usual a 1/3 of pound of tuna, Mac, coleslaw & potato salad and a pint of chicken soup. I was told by the gentleman behind the counter that the minimum is half a pound of each, I said I get this ever week... He said is it the tall guy with long hair I said yes but Ive ordered from all of you. I said thank and left the deli for the last time... Well sadly I will take my business someone else. I will miss the food... Too funny it was my people behind the counter that declined my business.
Never order for delivery from this place. Over two hours of placing an order, and it still was not delivered. Wife and I called twice and got the same response of it will be there soon. This restaurant should not be in the business of delivering food if they cant deliver on time or for that matter, give truthful updates about when the delivery will occur. Will never order from here again!
I m sorry but I was disappointed .After hearing so much about the pastrami I finally got a chance to check it out yesterday when I ordered pastrami on a roll with mustard. To go .After getting to my destination I was totally disappointed. The meat was dried up and I was given mustard on the side as requested , pickles , and a cup of salad dressing but no salad or cole slaw ?????
A Riverdale Institution that has been delivering on amazing food for decades. In the event someone is looking for a tour of the neighborhood, pop in and grab some take out form this delectable small deli. Or sit down where there is lovely service and did I mention... potato pancakes?
One of the most underrated Jewish Delicatessens in New York City. A Riverdale, Bronx and NYC gem and blast from the past. Everyone that works there cares so much about the food they prepare and serve, its a shame the owner just died. Keep patronizing this restaurant so we never have to lament their closing. Order the pastrami, the babaganoush/hummus/matbucha salad platter, the matzo ball soup, the frankfurter, and anything else you can fit in your mouth!
Heavenly! Hard to find old school soul-satisfying food anymore, or a simple friendly diner like setting. Welcoming, down to earth, filling, real deal. My fav is the yummy mahtzo ball soup, perfect half sours and (lean) pastrami sandwiches, and other staples of all varieties, even delicious little proper Black & White cookies, etc. I like eating in but delivery on cold days is worth it- they get my order right every time and it comes quick.Other perks are a cool, mellow staff, parking easy to find on the block, it’s accessible by 1 train stop about 10 mins down the hill at 231st and a hop to the BX7 that takes only 3mins to reach a few blocks away, or grab a quick Lyft ride from either nearby 1 station station. Take your leftovers to go or pig out and walk it off strolling around the nice neighborhood and check out the wonderful old houses. A real gem this neighborhood!
The food may be wonderful. Called to place an order for delivery.after giving the order and the credit card information the girl saidThe order will take 1 1/2 hours OY! Why couldnt she tell me thisbefore I gave the order. Very very inconsiderate. She should havehad the courtesy to say were very busy 1 1/2 hours for delivery,is that okay, Of course I would have said thanks, but no thanks.Butmaybe would have to come to pick it up if she would have give me theoption at the beginning of the call.
One of the last of its kind. Our go to deli. From the second you walk through the door Leibmans Deli throws you back to a time when Kosher Delis were plentiful and everyone had a story or two to describe the incredibly delicious, high cholesterol offerings each one served.Sadly, those days are gone, but luckily the incredibly delicious, high cholesterol offerings are still served at Leibmans.Must trys:1. Pastrami...some of the best out there.2. Corner beef...forget lean, Kosher Deli and health food do not fit well together.3. Great Chicken salad4. Any soup of the day.
I never ever write reviews, but today I feel strongly that it is necessary. Several reviewers have noted that this long-established neighborhood restaurant is not kosher. This is patently false. They cite that they could order a bagel with cream cheese alongside deli sandwiches. What they fail to understand is Liebmans uses PARVE cream cheese, which means that it is NON-DAIRY. I just came from there and took a snapshot of the menu confirming this (see uploaded photo from Liebman’s menu to confirm this). Get your facts straight before you slander an establishment.Liebmans has been a fixture in Riverdale since 1953, and is currently on its second family owning the establishment. That says volumes about its quality. We have been going there for over 50 years, since attending junior high across the overpass, when we would take a lunchtime treat and dash over and get a thick deli sandwich before returning to school. Do you think that Zagat would give Liebmans such a high rating if it were not a quality establishment? One more thing: Anthony Bourdain paid a visit a few years back. Google that, too, while youre at it. Nuff said.
Late this evening, I went to Liebmans Kosher delicatessen to buy chopped chicken liver for a dinner that I am making in honor of my mother tomorrow night. Gladly I spoke in Spanish to the kind lady and gentleman who guided me in selecting all else that I needed for this special affair. Wheb I got home I tasted each and every item that they had suggested to me, snd it was superb! I cannot wait to serve mt dinner tomorrow, and many thanks to the owners, and the wonderful servers! Not to mention the cook! See you soon!
The absolute best deli in NYC. Ive been going with regularity for 15 years, since I was a small child, and it never fails to disappoint. I love the pastrami but some dont like it as fatty as they make it (the real style), but Ive never met someone who didnt swear the corned beef (my favorite) wasnt the best theyve ever had. Matzah ball soup is amazing as well, second only to my moms, as are the knishes, coleslaw, pickles, open brisket sandwich and flanken. As to the people who complain about their turkey sandwich being dry and their ruebens -- what kind of goyishe farshtucken bull is this?! This isnt weight watchers and a kosher deli cant serve a real reuben, it has Swiss cheese on it. You deserve your cruddy sandwich if youre dumb enough to go into a kosher deli and start ordering health food or meat with cheese; would you go to an Italian restaurant and ask for the chow mein?! Gevalt, only a schmuck could complain about such a thing. Go because places like this are practically a bubbe meise in New York and this is the best one.
Not Kosher, most unfortunately. The food looks delicious and smells great, and the sign has Kosher in the most authentic Hebrew font.Perhaps they cook with kosher ingredients too. But: open on Saturdays and have no Kosher Certificate.Very sad, as Im newcomer to the neighborhood and wasnt aware of this deceiving situation. Stopped short of offering my observant guests a non-kosher Shabbat meal.Money wasted, food thrown away.
I started going here at four years old. Every Saturday afternoon before we made our pilgrimage to Macys to by meats from the cellar, we stopped for lunch here. My dad had two hot dogs with potatoe atop an order of fries and a Dr.Browns Cream soda. My moms norm: Corned beef on Rye and half the pickle tray. Me? MATZA BALL SOUP WITH a POTATO KANISH and a taste off of everyone s plate!!! Forty years and four owners later same quality, quantity and what do you know? Same pickle tray!!! Dave Wolfs is long gone only this and Second Avenue Deli left; the best Kosher Delis in New York. Smart enough to NEVER compromise!!! If it aint broke dont fix it!!!potatoe salad atop and an order of steak fries with a Dr. Browns Cream Soda, My moms norm: Corned beef on Rye; and me
Personally Ive never been to this deli but a friend of mine placed an order of which I was going to pick up. Even for a miss understanding it is incredibly rude to hang up a phone by slamming it, we cancelled the order and went somewhere else. Their service is absolutely horrible.
Liebmans is your traditional jewish deli. The pastrami is passable (its no katzs, but its pastrami). They seem to have everything you expect from a jewish deli down to the Dr. Browns Cel-Ray soda. Its worth a trip if you dont want to trek into manhattan for jewish deli.
Not kosher!!!!!. Kosher STYLE . They are open on the Sabbath. If you care about eating kosher do not eat here.YET THEY CONTINUE TO DISRESPECT THOSE WHO ARE OBSERVANT BY REPRESENTING THEMSELVES AS KOSHER WHEN THEY ARE NOT. THEY ALSO DECEIVE THE NON JEWISH PUBLIC.When a gentile salesman calls to order a catered meal for a Kosher client they tell him we are kosher but when the the client sees the Leibmans name they refuse to eat it-- ruining the meeting.

2022-02-21Enjoyed some fresh pastrami and rye sandwich with some pickles on the side. Sandwich was delicious and definitely recommend. this establishment has been here since 1953. Great Jewish deli, food is excellent as well as the ambiance, also old time music playing in the background.

2021-12-26We ordered here for dinner last night. The food from this place was excellent! We had the meatloaf, corned beef and pastrami, potato knishes and babka. Large portions and really fresh tasting food! Even leftovers were delicious. Definitely planning to order from here again.

2021-10-26We opted to try a deli that was not commercialized/overridden with Instagrammers! And boy are we happy with that!Liebmans is on the outskirts of the Bronx! A very nice little neighborhood, a bit of a drive of course out of New York City but well worth it.The smoked salmon is the best I have ever tasted! Kind of like a nova lox. It is so fresh, sweet, salty but mild. There was a lot of fattiness to the salmon which made it even tastier! Their sides are to die for as well, the potato salad was so masterfully seasoned. And onto their deli sandwich, stacked so high with nicely sliced pieces of pastrami! And they gave some delicious homemade mustard too. Great service, friendly staff, and felt very much like eating at home. Such a comfortable and inviting environment. So many locals you can see coming here, elderly ones that know exactly this is the place to be if you want a satisfaction guaranteed meal! Can’t wait till the borders open again so that I can drive here from Canada!

2022-01-31YUM-YUM melt in your mouth pastrami!! So good. I actually waited in my car for half an hour waiting for them to open because I didnt want to go anywhere else. Pastrami on rye with Russian dressing and a half sour pickle excellent. I cant comment on the other items because this is all Ive had. However they are expensive $19.99 for a sandwich.

2022-05-31This was my first time at this deli. It was recommended by a nice lady I used to work with, and I am impressed. The food was delicious!!! Does this deli sell the Pastrami by the pound? Im in! I am definitely coming back. But we wont get lost this time...and we live in the Bronx, can you imagine? 🙂

2022-05-15Not cheap, but everything here is delicious. The pastrami sandwiches are lean. The rye bread is always soft. Their soups are yummy, whether lentil or chicken gumbo or mushroom barley.

2022-06-26One of the few remaining old-school Jewish delis. Excellent pastrami, knishes, kasha, etc. I had the brisket recently and it was so tender! They are expensive but a couple times a year we say damn the cholesterol and $25 price for a pastrami sandwich...the post meal food coma is blissful...

2022-04-01I was so disappointed this week. I ordered a quart of matzo ball soup and asked for no noodles and no bread. My grandmother wasn’t feeling well and all she could get down was the matzo ball. They gave me 2 matzo’s and charged me $15. I couldn’t believe they didn’t put third one I questioned it but they ignored the question and the receptionist actually rolled her eyes at me. There were a lot of people there so I didn’t make an issue of it but a review was definitely necessary. I have been in the area since I was little and I’m sad that their customer service is at this level.
