Great Thai place. I had the steamed dumplings and Massaman Curry and both items were really delicious. My husband had the fried rice and ate the whole dish. My friends ordered Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles and finished their meals as well. The portion size is just right. Also, FYI, the place is BYOB. This place had the perfect ambiance for us to have dinner and catch up with good friends.
Came as a walk-in at this restaurant and were greeted and seated immediately. Amazing selection of authentic Thai food! The servers were super nice and attentive. I will definitely be coming back again and again! Here is a picture of the chocolate mousse and coconut icecream dessert which was delicious!
Really love this local gem. Great, solid Thai with the usual options plus some specialties to keep things interesting. Friendly service, quaint and generally quieter inside. The BYO really makes this special and a perfect place to come with roommates or a couple friends to enjoy good, affordable Thai with some beer or wine. Favorite dishes here are the pad see ew, green curry and clay pot. Curry puff and fried dumplings are also great to start. Drunken noodles were just ok
Cozy and nice atmosphere with very friendly and attentive staff. Ambiance for dinner was great. The Thom Yum soup had just the right kick without being overly spicy and the steamed chicken and shrimp dumplings were great. The main dishes also were very good - all tge classic with a few specials were available.
I called the place to reserve a table for 2 and received a friendly confirmation. Little did I know that the customer service would be so cool. The lady who attended our table was polite and friendly. I would say she went above and beyond her duties because she waited for my friend to finish his meal and (stop talking! hahaha) even though it was her last call.We had thai fried rice and spring rolls and the taste, quantity, and price all were perfect. I would recommend this place for sure and will return soon (but this time with my lovely family ) #lookingforward :) TPS: Thank you for making my dinner experience, an awesome one :)
Disappointed. Greatly.. Today was the 1st time ordering from here. Ive gotten the TomYum soup. Im a fan of it. Ive eaten it at several other locations mostly in Astoria and never had I gotten it with tomatoes in it. Today was a first. It changed the taste drastically. It taste like tomato soup 🥴Its just sitting there to be thrown away. Other food was decent but not worth the prices they have.. Wont be returning or recommending the location......
First time visiting Wednesday, 4/21/21 for dinner. We were greeted promptly and were able to sit anywhere. We were the only ones eating in the restaurant. Little Basil has a very busy take out and delivery as witnessed by people picking up the orders and the delivery guy in and out with deliveries. Ordered the Fried Dumpling (mixed shrimp, chicken, water chestnut, & shitake mushroom with sweet chili sauce @$9 excellent, order of Prik Khing Chicken @$14 and Prik Khing Beef @$15.00 both were also excellent. BYOB which is another plus very inexpensive date night or family night. A rated by NYC. Back again on Saturday 4/24 reservation at 7:15 pm. By 8 pm the place was jam packed. Ordered the same dishes and they tasted the same as on 4/21 so the restaurant is consistent. We ordered one new item Veggie Spring Roll @$8 it was excellent. Richard remembered me; he is very nice. Will be back again.
Love the ambience (small and cozy) and how affordable this place is! Great place to catch up with friends after classes, and is usually not very busy on weekdays. The lunch special is definitely where its at-- you get your choice of two sides and a main dish. I always get the chicken pad see ew (around $10). This place can be a little cramped if you order in house; I recommend calling ahead of time to place your order if youre taking it to go. Waiters are also very friendly and will check up frequently.
For what it is, theres literally nothing wrong with Little Basil. The food is tasty, their BYOB is generous for New York standards, and the ambience is legit! The cost/benefit is great, for all you econ students out there. Im sorry I dont have a picture, but the crispy duck (which was admittedly the thing on the menu that was a bit over priced) tasted GREAT over my pineapple fried rice. :)
Nice cheap Thai restaurant located close to Baruch. Fairly busy place for lunch which is when you get the best value for money. An appetizer + soup or salad + entree for just 9 bucks is a great deal in Manhattan. Tasty food served with a smile. Go for it if you are in the vicinity although I would recommend coming down just for the food
Food was a bit on the salty side for me, but maybe everyones taste varys. Thai ice tea was nice, however coconut drink was disappointing mainly due to it not being fresh out from a coconut. Coconut drink was served in a glass instead, after checking with server why there was no physical coconut, we were told that it was from a packaged bottle. On the brighter note, service was very good and restaurant was very accommodating with our request to cut a birthday cake there. They even allow diners to bring along their wine during certain times. Had I known earlier, I would have also brought a bottle.
Tried to go with my sister on a night out in the city. She called to confirm it was BYOB and made a reservation for 5 pm. We walked past at 4:50 and it was still gated up with wet cement in the front roped off with cones, so we walked on to the park and went back at 5:10. Still gated up and no sign of anyone. Called twice and got no answer. We were very excited since the reviews were great, but we went elsewhere with our wine and business.
This is one of my favorite thai restaurants in the city. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly and the food is always delicious and reasonably priced. I have never had a green curry that tasted so rich and spicey and it has become a go-to for me and my friends. Recently, I have experimented and tried various dishes from the specials menu and I have yet to go wrong. This place is Definitely an asset to the neighborhood!
BYOB, no hard liquor, for the first bottle the corkage fee is waived, $10 corkage fee after. Very yummy Massaman curry! My friend enjoyed her pad se ew. Good friendly atmosphere. Not too crowded but not empty either. A good local spot. Only thing I didn’t love was the edamame, oddly enough. It’s so simply prepared that I’m not sure how I could have been disappointed, but I was. Maybe it wasn’t fresh? Not sure. But I certainly ate all of it so it was still good. Overall very enjoyable Thai place and recommended.
Fantastic, authentic Thai food. Makes a really good date night. Only complaint was that an employee almost came in on me while in the bathroom despite me shouting Im in here several times and pushing the door closed twice until they got the hint that maybe someone was using the facilities...
The name of this place was a little deceptive at first, it sounds like an italian place, and has a very generic looking awning and logo. I went there with my girlfriend for a lunch special and we were very surprised by the amount of food that came for the great price. My girlfriend has spent some quality time in Thailand and felt this food was very close to matching the flavors of the authentic dishes she experienced there.
I love going here for lunch! Its one of my favorite lunch spots. Despite the busy crowd during lunch (around 12:30PM), the service is always fast and quick. The staff is very kind and polite. If there is a wait, it is usually only 5-10 minutes tops. The prices are great for lunch. For the lunch special, I usually get Thai Salad with Ginger Sauce. Its a little small, but definitely fresh and they give you a fair amount of sauce. I also like to order the Little Basil Spring Rolls. They are the best out of the appetizer options. They are served with plum sauce and the texture of them arent like other spring rolls. I cant even describe it, but its definitely a good thing.Out of the lunch special entrees, my favorite is the Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken! They dont cheap out on the ingredients and they even put cashews in it. It really adds to the flavor. As for drinks, I love their Thai iced tea! Its not too sweet or bitter like other places Ive gone to. They are also served in cute little mason jars.Although this place is a little cramped at times, the restaurant has nearby hooks where you can put your coats or bags. This not only helps you, but it allows service to run more smoothly.
Little Basil is an authentic Thai restaurant with really great appetizers and curries. I was pleasantly surprised by the service, the food, and the comfort of such a tiny restaurant. Small groups of four or two are best, and the food is spicy, which is excellent for Thai food, just the way it should be!
After one of my colleagues suggested this place, we went there for our Friday lunch here about a week ago.I ordered the pick-three lunch combo with veggie rolls, salad and Pad Thai. I was served two thumb-sized fried rolls which tasted very yummy with the sweet-and-sour sauce but left me craving for more. The Pad Thai was served in a small bowl and I had asked for extra peanuts, for which we were charged a couple of dollars extra. The salad quantity was very less too (Although it has only been about a week and a half since we went there, I dont even remember eating it now). There were three of us and we finished our food within 10 minutes. I asked them Alright, thank you very much for the snack. Where are we having lunch now?!
I love little basil, its a nice and quiet restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and there food just taste delicious. For those who are around Baruch college daily it is a great place to go. They do not serve alcoholic beverages but it is a BYOW space. Which means you can bring your own wine.
I usually call in for their lunch special at this hole in the wall restaurant and having it picked up to go. Some dishes cost a bit more but usually you get an entree with a choice of an app from a limited selection starting at $8. I am quite taken with their fried rice and usually get the Thai or Pineapple fried rice with the crab or shrimp dumpling [the exact name escapes me right now] as the appetizer. I usually call at least 20 minutes before going to pick up my order because I still have to wait when I get there. I am guessing it is because the place is usually busy and the tables are closer together making it even more difficult to navigate. The food itself is pretty good but I find it lacks spice [I really like it hot!], but with a couple spoonful of hot chili sauce that problem is solved. I really like appetizer as even though it is fried, it isnt greasy. Overall, it is a pretty decent place with good sized portions that wont leave you broke.
Do not order here online, not sure why but their in house service was actually decent vs their online service. Its kind of ridiculous how bad I was treated after a simple mistake of putting in the wrong phone number. I apologized, I asked if they could redeliver after I called and they were so mean to me over the phone I offered to pick it up and when I arrived I was greated with so much attitude it was actually disgusting. I never plan on ordering from there again, their night time staff is not friendly at all they pushed us aside and disrespectful me and my colleagues. We ended up waiting for the delivery guy to come back around a half hour after we arrived and ended up eating cold food. One of the worst dinner experiences of my life. I wish I could have been able to order from you guys again but now I cant after how I was treated.
Good, delicious Thai food that is actually spicy. Yes, most places cater to American sense if heat but this place actually does Thai food more justice. The little Basil wings are delicious, a lot of heat with a big dose of lime, get this as an appetizer. The seasonal pork ribs were nice delicious and spicy although warning me they were Thai hot was a bit of an exaggeration though the young peppercorns did add a nice bit of an extra kick.. Vegetables could have been cooked a little less long, they were quite soft.My wife had the Pad Prikh Kingh, which was actually very spicy and very delicious. Also add a Lychee Thai iced tea, a bit sweet but great to accompany your dinner.
Terrible service from beginning and we were discriminated by our people. Upon arrival the host tell the wait is 5- 10minutes. Then two privileges came in and mentioned they do not have a reservation then the host promptly escorted them like colonization era to their table while we waited in confusion. We choose not to sit in and left the restaurant feeling uncomfortable upon how we were treated.

2022-02-14Food was delicious. Got the lunch special which came with am appetizer, soup or salad, and entrée all for the price of just the entrée. Will come back to try all the other dishes as the ones that we had were absolutely great!

2021-10-20Delicious and authentic Thai food with good prices. Ambience is enjoyable, but a bit crowded. Service was solid since I went on the later side of dinner. Would recommend coming here!Fav- wide noodles, soup, and spring rolls

2022-04-22Nothing special or out of this world -- kind of disappointing if Im being honest. It was as basic as it gets, which isnt necessarily a bad thing; it certainly wasnt bad by any means. But I was so in the mood for Thai food -- the kind that just HITS -- and this just didnt manage to scratch that itch. Plus, it was $22 with a tip for Pad Thai with Chicken. Hard pass.Friendly staff, but Ill definitely stick to trying other spots in Nomad/Gramercy instead.

2022-05-09The food was delicious, the environment really nice, I came here as a recommendation and I wanted to invite 2 friends, the guy that attended us was nice and polite but at the end when I paid, we walked out of the restaurant and the guy who attended us, followed us in the street and stopped me asking if he did a bad service and showed me the invoice with the suggested tip because I didnt leave the suggested amount, he came with a pen too for me to modify the tip and leave more money. This was very rude, you dont know my economic situation and why I couldnt leave more money as a tip, follow a client in the street like if I left without pay was pathetic and very low. Will never visit this place again when visit the city. Next time tell the client when is still sitting in the restaurant that there is a suggested amount to take a look, but never go and follow half block away from the restaurant, specially when I paid and I left a tip, I left what I could afford. Very bad guys, very bad.

2022-03-11Truely a little basil, a small but cozy spot. The ambience was really cute and the food just was great, the chives dumplin was delicious and then thai ice tea was on point. The little basil fry rice is something everyone should try. Service was really good and quick. Definitely a place ill be back to and highly recommended

2022-03-27Overpriced & bad, one of my worst Thai experiences in NYC. Drunken noodles and pad Thai were both tasteless, and the noodles tasted too sweet and cheap. Surprised with the good reviews, and maybe this was just a bad night for them, but I’m never ordering from here again.

2020-07-26The first place I found whose pad thai is not ketchup-based version that dominate in this city. The Thai iced tea has strong tea falvor which I like. The Thai BBQ is bold and flavorful. On the other hand, the drunken noodles, the usually safe option, is surprisingly bland. Overall it is a homey neighborhood eatery with nice and mediocre choices to explore.
