Horrible food they forgot my mac and cheese i ordered on top of that 1 person was waiting on me and here comes someone else InterruptingWith my order with the person that was waiting on me I hate that shitt especially when Im in any store when people do that one person waiting on me and here comes another one button inThe food is terrible I got sick to my stomach first time there
The food is Soooooo good. I love the ox tail dinner. I have try other dishes but my favorite is the oxtail beans and rice with extra gravy. The employees are always cheerful, make you feel you getting the best. I have tried the jerk chicken, curry goat and curry chicken. They even have side food for Vegans or a Vegetarian. Example: cabbage, beans and rice, plantains, etc. Love these folks!
The Best Jerk Chicken in town as far as I am concerned, but, the oxtail meal and portion size is outrageous. The meal was small for $17. Will not be going back for that. At least give people more rice and vegetables. Very disappointed. If people spend their money at least make them happy.
Just had a delicious Saturday brunch with a girlfriend here. The ackee and salt fish with plantain, fried dumping and sweet potatoes are absolutely delicious. The food was very flavorful and hearty. The owner is so sweet and friendly. The setting is like a bodega with seating right in the middle of the market area with the television playing either cricket, a football match or Jamaican news
Tl;dr GO GET SOME FOOD HERE THIS IS AN AMAZING RESTAURANT YOU WILL NOT REGRET A THING; A+Dont let the one star reviews fool you. I have read them all, and to be honest, I think theyre a little overblown because the person didnt get exactly what they want in extenuating circumstances. It is my firm belief after eating here, only a couple of times, that this is some of the best west indies food in Rochester, and I have tried several other places; it is also worth mentioning I went here on a complete whim, no recommendation.A couple people are complaining about menu items not being available when they come in to eat. This is because they make all their food fresh that day, and if they run out of something, it is because it was already eaten, and they cannot make more considering the copious time and careful attention that you can undoubtedly tell goes into every dish (just taste anything they make and you will know). Get there early!Furthermore, I have seen people complaining about a lack of Jamaican food, rather it being African? This is also nonsense. Every dish on that menu is a West Indie food. Brownstew, curried, and jerk meats; oxtail, snapper (only on Saturdays, fresh from NYC market), rice and peas, plantains; HANDMADE patties, coco bread? Are you kidding me? Ive been around White Plains rd neighborhood in the North Bronx several times (Jamaican central) and been served the exact same food, with the same quality. This is as Caribbean as it gets.I have also seen complaints about flies in the restaurant. I have been a couple times now, and can say with confidence that it is the CLEANEST Rochester local food joint I have EVER been in. I have been to Stevie Ts and other garbage plate places innumerable times, as well as other diners, as well as Caribbean food places in the area. I am 100% serious when I say this is the cleanest place I have had the pleasure of eating in. I dont know if those reviews were old, but I promise you, it was spotless. I was even extremely surprised to see that behind the counter at the hot plates, there was not a single scrap, drop of sauce, or any blemish on the stainless steel lids and countertop. It was absolutely impeccable how clean this place was.The woman who was running the counter when I was there was friendly enough to put as much attention to me (and each respective customer she served, I was 2/3 in the line) as she did with the counter and food, which is a LOT.So to all the one star reviews, I dont know what happened, but you need to give this place another try. They have undoubtedly garnered a returning customer in me, as well as an advocate for the restaurant for my friends. They have in no way influenced me to write this review, other than the exceptional service, atmosphere, and most importantly, the DELICIOUS food I was served. I cannot recommend this place more; what are you waiting for, why are you still reading when you should be stuffing your mouth with jerk chicken? GO!
Livies is great. Possibly the most flavorful Jamaican or Caribbean Ive had in Rochester. Also, they have GOOD vegetarian options which can be hard to find with this type of food.Had to get here on the 2nd try for lunch, because the first time I tried to go, it was towards they end of the day and they were out of food!
Im very confused by the review left by some people about this establishment. During my visit the lady taking my order was very rude. The food was not good at all. They prep food, cook and serve you with no gloves on, all while answering the phone and exchanging money. I cant even take a pic because i already threw it in the trash where it belongs. Pop Style on Genesee is a much better choice when it comes to Jamacian dishes. I only tried this place because PS was closed. Never again.
What do I even say? Greatest Jamaican spot in Rochester....... probably even further then that. I will visit Livies every time I come back to Rochester. Ill spend 40 just for me for 2 days. I miss the food. Ive been to flordia,North carolina/New York,Georgia, Connecticut, Maryland, all all over the east coast and I havent found a single shop who does it better. Or anyone as clean as they are. Im glad during the covid times Livies is still standing. You guys do a great Job and any time I come back to Rochester you have my business multiple times!!!!!
Normally it is perfectly seasoned for 2020 My first time having a bad experience was today with the ackee and saltfish which taste as if the habanero/scotch bonnet has burst . I called to see if i could get a different dinner or my money back and was told that all sales are final. It really saddens me, really feel as if this policy should be changed if the food is unbearable to eat
Its always a hit and miss sometimes really good sometimes bad but i stayed loyal. The first time I actually called and complained after all these years was when I couldnt bite into my oxtales. The guy told me that was the way that they cook them. I didnt argue...Ill just take my business elsewhere... no refund no offer for a new plate he just wanted to argue about it being cooked right....that is bad business
I went with a group called the Diversity Café because one of the members, who knows the owner, wanted us to discover Jamaican culture. We heard Christmas carols with a reggae/soca beat and enjoyed specialties such as jerk chicken. One thing I learned was that the refreshing ginger beer isnt really beer and doesnt contain any alcohol. I would definitely go back!

2022-02-11We ordered beef patties for the seniors at our nursing home. Everyone got to have a sample as part of a Taste of the Caribbean activity. They LOVED it! Many asked for seconds and one even asked if it could be added to the menu. Thank you so much for the delicious treats and allowing our Elders to experience something new!

2022-06-07Not a place I would expect to find that delicious food. But it is here. The food is the reason I am coming here. Good and full of flavors. The service can get better. Prices can’t get any better.

2021-05-15Their food are tasty without a doubt; I give 4.5 star for the taste. However, overall, I have to give 3 star due to the price and the portion. The price is too expensive for the portion they gave. For example, an oxtail meal costs over 17 dollars and they are in a small plate (the only size / portion available for this meal). And you only have 1 side. Compare to other Jamaican restaurants, other places would cost about the same or slightly cheaper; but, you will get a big portion in a big container; you will get tons of meat; also, you will get more sides like vegetables, plantain and a fried dough. For a small container with 1 side for that high price is just too expensive. I would say for that small container with 1 side, it should cost between12 to 13 dollars. That would be more reasonable.I guess this place is a nice option if you want to eat something expensive once in a while. Not a place to eat frequently unless of you were a millionaire.
