I was so excited for indoor classes opening up & Mimi’s yoga class did not disappoint! She made sure we worked every single part of our bodies, was super clear and encouraging with her instruction, and I left feeling amazing! I will definitely continue taking her classes, & definitely recommend it for others!
I recently cancelled my membership. The issues are:The parking. Its hard to find parking. Its overly crowded not enough space to effectively work out. They never clean the machines and the bathrooms are gross, the lockers have tons of rush and roaches. People dont watch their kids why are their kids about 10 running around in the cardio room playing on the machines? Who regulates that? The front desk is extremely rude and you must wait for their conversation to end in order to get your question in. The pool is gross, Ive seen thing float in there that shouldnt float in there. The only thing I liked was the classes. But for the amount I was paying a month, plus they went up almost 10 bucks a month this year, it wasnt worth it.
Me and my family have had a membership for 13 years and we tried to freeze the account for a few months due to problems. When we talked to the director she refused to listen and wanted us to cancel the membership. We then asked for her supervisor to call us and she refused to do it and kept bragging about how she is the director. I am very disappointed in how they are treating their loyalty customers.( most of the machines are broken never been fixed and the worst part is they have schools that brings their students to the facility which imagine F words left and right )
Not a bad gym with a pool. I use the weight room, regularly and it is the reason for the lower rating. After work, it is crowded, as would be expected, however there are groups that come daily and more or less close off large sections of the weight room for hours, taking all of the bars. The weekends can be worse with young children and toddlers playing in among the adults lifting free weights. If you can avoid these times, it not too bad.
I have been going to the YMCA since 2008. I love it. Well I will be harshly honest. Does the facility need improvement? Yes. It could offer more amenities like the YMCA in Vanderbilt or Mcburneys. But is it efficient for those that really seek to transform their bodies, get in shape and be healthy? Absolutely. Their equipment is awesome. They have great variety. They have a running track which is something extremely important because running in a machine all the time is not good for your knees. They have a swimming pool. I transformed by body there. So I rate it 5 stars.
I love the place its very Spacey theres a swimming pool a weight room an exercise room theres not a lot of people there when I go in the mornings which is really nice you still have to wear a mask on social distancing but overall I give it five stars and its also close to my job so when I get off in the morning I go straight there find parking and exercise for about 2 hours and I feel good when Ive done that
They have Zumba class at 11 am and Boot Camp class at 12 pm on Saturday. Both classes are great; however , the Boot Camp class has a 25 ppl cap and required ppl to stand outside the studio to sign. When I suggested to the director that put the signing sheet on the front desk; the director told me the front desk were too busy on Saturday to take attendance and I can just jump out of the Zumba class to sign. The signing starts at 11:45 am(depends on who take attendance, sometimes the attendant shows up late). Even when I jump out of the Zumba class at 11:40 am, and waited on line, I still didn’t get a spot because there were ppl signed for their friends in the Zumba class or someone else coming late. Also, there were always 2 lines outside the studio, so sometimes ppl came later actually signed first because the staff wasn’t tracking who actually comes first. When I raised the issue to the the attendant, the attendant told me to be safe just don’t take Zumba class. (Is it fair to another Zumba teacher who taught great class and attract more people to come to Long Island City YMCA?)Suggestions: 1. If you don’t have enough staff to take attendance and enough space to let people take the class on the weekends, then please DON’T try every effort to get more gym members during weekends.2. If you want people waiting in the line to sign in, please make sure ppl are not cutting the line or take fake attendance. Some people don’t live in the neighborhood, and have to spend 1.5 hr commute to come here. Everyone’s time is valuable!!!3. There are many YMCA’s do online attendance, so ppl have visibility to see whether the class is full.4. How hard is it for a front desk member to put a piece of paper on the desk and let the gym member to sign?PS: this YMCA doesn’t provide towels like other Y in queens or the city, so please bring your own towel.
Today I realize why kids dont do physical activities. Got kicked out for going to the GYM on my 2 hours of free period of school. Never thought someone would get kicked out of a gym because theyre dedicated. Someone with a curly hair with dark skin tone said this to me with a lot of disrespect as if it was a sin for me to be there... Something about policy that he happened to memorize. Yea and the guy threatened me to leave as well, seemed excessive and hotheaded guy.
Im a member at the YMCA for just one week, my first visit at the gym was not the best.First of all, one of the staff members at the front desk was too busy using his cell phone when I was buying 2 swimming caps, those were apparently one size. To my surprise, I learned later, that those caps were too small. (one cap could fit a 3 year old kid). My fiance called the gym later to possibly get a refund, but nobody answered. 2nd inquiry, he left a voice mail, then third inquiry, my fiance emailed, when Devin replied back, and forwarded an email to the Director. She did not respond back. My fiance and I decided to go back to the gym today to talk to the Director Heidy Lopez. After we explained our situation, she refused to provide a refund stating that all caps were standard, she didnt even take a quick look to the caps but insisted that those were one size. Later she questioned us why we took too long to go back, we responded that we tried reaching out to the gym and we also emailed her with no respond. Of course she had to brag about her big title and said that she has 10,000 members and didnt have the time to respond. She was very unprofessional, even disrespectful and say that those caps could of been used. Wow! this was so unnecessary, it was very embarrassing. Why she had to be so negative and unprofessionalShes calling herself a director? What kind of leader is she????.This is the type of customer service she provides? I wished she could of given us the benefit of the doubt and try to help members rather than challenge them. It was not even about the money, but common courtesy on her end. She walked away from us and said aloud to somebody else to give us a refund.(So much for the creed about being respectful...when the director does not lead by example)She is defenetely a bad representation of the YMCA branch. How sad!We wish we could of rated ZERO stars.
Now it open! Still has limited class and limited time to access. All classes need to register online from the website or YMCA app. They are outdoor classes that available inside the parking lots. There are spin, bootcamp, zumba, and insanity. Also swimming pool. Dont forget to register before you go. Only person who booked can swim. Still can exercise by your own at machine and a lot of spaces. Guaranteed cleanliness There are staffs to take care of cleaning sanitize. All sanitizing products are available. Lockers room are available but no sauna. If not necessary, you should go back and shower at home.Nice classes at LIC YMCA
We have been coming here pretty often for the past couple of years for my childrens swim classes. I think they have some nice, dedicated staff and I feel safe leaving my kids in their hands. It is pretty uncomfortable watching the classes from the viewing areas due to overcrowding and a lack of seating. The lifeguards seem attentive and are not just kids staring at their iPhones. The family bathrooms are very important as I find the mens room a bit creepy with more nudity than seems necessary. Overall, the entire place could use a renovation and a good cleaning but I am sure their funds are limited. At the very least, new bathrooms would be very nice. On a side note, yesterday, they had what appeared to be a surprise emergency test for the lifeguards. It was EXTREMELY disturbing and a little traumatic. A fire alarm went off very loudly. Their was a lot of action in the pool area. It took me a second to realize that this was a pool emergency and that it was serious. All the kids, maybe 30 of them, exited the pool and lined up along the walls. A panic hit me when I realized just what was happening. Something bad happened. Someone appeared to be unconscious and was being rescued but it seemed bad. I thought the guy broke his neck or had a heart attack and was dead. After a minute, the guy got up and walked away. This was an unannounced test, I think. My son was terrified. All the kids were, and the parents were even more freaked out. Who thought it was a good idea to do this with a pool full of 3-6 year olds with parents watching? I understand the need for realistic tests, but this decision was very poor.
Pros: They are good at taking your money automatically every month without any exceptions, ever.Cons: Over crowded, under maintained. Paper towel dispensers are empty frequently. There are no blow dryers either, so there is 1 in 3 chance you will walk out of the restroom wet. Staff is indifferent. Machines break down and they go broken for weeks. Full of schoolchildren who make noise, dribble basket balls in locker rooms, take selfies on mirrors with total disregard to others privacy, play card games and loud music in locker rooms, generally hang out around machines without actually using them wasting everyones time. No water pressure on second floor bathroom. Sections of the building closed too often, too long.
Never experience theft in other workout place where I have been. This is the first place where my lock has been broken n took the cash. N second time they took my credit card. That is shocking n am waiting when management goona take action to catch that person. Plz be aware if u are new to ymc. Never keep cash or card in locker. Be safe guys.
Too many rules and regulations. I was told I could not stay in the pool area with my kids even with pool slippers on although last visit I did. So I was asked politely to leave and that I can view from a window outside. So now a parent of their decent it appears (Philippino) walks in the pool and just stand with outside shoes with her child for apprx 10 mins. The same lifeguard looked at this lady and said nothing. So..... I will never attend a ymca again.
Today is Thanks Giving Day. I called YMCA LIC front desk at 11am to inquire about open swimming, the lady said you can come for open swim today until 3pm I took my wife, a 10 year daughter and another 6 year old daughter and reached YMCA LIC around 11:45am, she opened the hallway door for us to go to changing room. We took shower and went to pool, an instructure lady in the pool didnt allow us told us to swim, she said family swim timing is only from 2-2:30pm. I said why you guys dont tell us the timing before we enter the swim area. She said it might be front desks mistake, I requested front desk, the instrcture and the life guard to let me and my daughter to swim but they were saying sorry sir it was a mistake and didnt let us to swim. My kids were so angry. I think they should have let us swim since the pool was almost empty today and why should we pay for their mistake while they have authority to let us swim. Happy thanks giving to all of you except those three YMCA ladies who ruined our day.
Me and my family are the members at this location . I was there this week Thursday since the schools are out I was going to put my son for child watch while I go work out . I didn’t get a tour while I signed up so,I had to ask some good where was the childcare at . One of the girl did answer my question and I said thank you,as I was walking away the African-American girl who was working in the front decks screamed at me from all the way from the other side of the desk . Asked me to scan the card . so I said you want me to scan it again because I have already done it once ? So she pointed at my side and said you need to scan the card for that one with you . It was very unappropriate the way she pointed my son and the way she mentioned that one . So I simply just told her I didn’t have his card with me if she like I would give her the information to look him up who is also a member there . Not sure if Im a member of the gym my son would really need to be a member to be in the child watch or not but however her behavior was unappropriate .
Ive been very discouraged with the negative and argumentative attitude we get, if we bring up any complaints to share at the front desk. The Y at LIC management should visit other location, for instance the one at Livingston or the one at Kingston,NY or any other, they have it clean, pleasant, friendly and the sona doesnt suck. We pay for our service, even though we appreciate the service it provides to the needy, but they can still be better to others.
I suggest people not to waste money on family package as they have a swimming pool which they divide into 4 sectors and out of which only 1 portion is given to family ! That portion is very very crowded !Then in basketball court they did not let us in , said it’s renovating ! They are big scammers ! Ripping money off ! I wish I could get refund !
This place is perfect and all the gyms the lockers everything but the only problem is every time I pay my bill in cash they dont have exact change.to management please fix this small problem,I have lots of friends are members there now because of my recommendations.thank you
The workers here are very rude ! Specially the ladies here! Terribleee the worst place in Long Island city, for the people! The worst experience in my life!!!! I had a problem and the administrator was the same thing!!!! Terrible if you don’t want take a bad time don’t go to this place!
I liked the attention they offered me at the reception. The place is super big, they have enough machines for exercise, pool inside, areas for children, saunas, showers, lockers, and much more. They also offer parking for customers, but its not free. Enjoy my relaxation time a lot by doing exercises and then enjoy the sauna. A good point is that everyone who shows the local ID, they make a story of 15% off in the subscription for a year. The place is super clean, organized and its rules are very good because they force antisocial people to maintain respect and organization in the place. The subscription is a bit expensive but it is worth it since they offer a lot in one place.

2021-05-06Went in and theres gallons of sanitizer to squeeze on hands. Theres some construction by the stairs. No water fountain. No Treadmill are open to use in 2nd floor. No showers. Theres a worker seating on the side, watching and cleaning the machine frequently. Also, theres protection glass between certain sections. Lockers are dusty. Closed Monday through Thursday from 1pm-2pm for cleaning. Fridays are closed.

2022-03-24I joined Y to learn group adult swimming class level 2 :) Our coach Bill (William) was very methodical, great listener and taught us step by step !! Entire YMCA staff is very courteous , friendly n polite. So far, I have done swimming the most n lifeguard Juan is our favorite. He is very friendly talks to everyone n also encourages you to push yourself 😊 !! Joyce the manager there also helped me fix my membership renewal inspite of my mistake. I do appreciate her consideration. All other gum members are also very friendly. I go from Rego Park to Y at LIC but totally worth it for all facilities n hours. Specially swimming because very few clubs had opened pools. Thank you YMCA at LIC 😊

2022-01-27The staff at the ymca are great, always greet members when walking in or leaving the facility. Only wished they could extend the hours on the basketball court.

2021-10-24Gym equipment and members of the facility are the worst part of this gym. My money wasnt worth of anything. Members there were really rude and disrespectful. They dont share any equipment and if you ask them, they wanna have a fist fight with you.

2021-09-20Undoubtedly this LIC YMCA is good, but they must need to train their front desk associates. I am a new member to this location, and have no personal enmity with front desk people. As I love YMCA, I like to give a review on this issue, maybe, the management doesnt know about this issue. It was my 4th encounter with the Spanish front desk young associate, and she was still the same. It seems like she doesnt know about the general etiquettes of service, and how to use some of the words necessary-Sorry, thanks, welcome etc. But she is so rude, and treat members badly. She would try to make things so bureaucratic, and hassle some for nothing when it can be resolved on her end in less than 20 seconds. I have always seen her working alone, so I believe, she is overwhelmed due to new-incoming membership registration, but my observation is, she just love to make things complicated, and mistreats members for no reason. She should be trained. Please observe her attitude and train her. Besides, staffs who sit in the next door office, (some ladies) often walk by her and do nothing. If front desk is busy, why they cant help people who are on-line? This is worst YMCA Front Desk Ive ever seen. Usually, YMCA has very sweet people at the Front desk who speak with members and prospective members with care, and respect. This Y has no value of that tradition.

2021-10-10I am glad I came here to read some of the reviews, I called this place and LVM many times to find out if they have private swimming lessons, they never got back to me, until this day. Ironically enough they keep sending me flyers. How they keep sending flyers to people but not returning calls? SMH! Based on other reviews I have read here, it seems like the front desk people need to be replaced.

2021-07-06The front desk people is so mean n asking me to leave she can refund me. I just asked her y she didn’t tell me the swimming pool starts at 6pm coz there is classes going on. When I sign up before I asked her can I go right away to the pool she said yes n after sign up also I asked her she said yes I can go. She didn’t tell me the schedules. It’s so embarrassing going in the pool n asked me to go out. The front desk people should give right information. Instead of saying sorry she said there is higher demand she can refund me that’s so rude women she is. YMCA must have kind n manner employers not like her. I didn’t accepted such response from YMCA employers. I really hated…😡😡

2021-12-09DO NOT go here. They cheated me for many months and charged me without saying anything amidst a global pandemic. Dont let this happen to you! Cancel your membership
