My first visit, definitely will not be my last! We moved to Elmira from Syracuse about 2 years ago and this was our first visit to Louies. This was the best dining experience Ive had in 10 years. Louies has a great ambience, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Barbara was our server and she was on point, it appeared all the staff was too. Drinks always full, she was very attentive but not overbearing. The food... OMG the food. The bread was phenomenal (Im very picky about my bread), I am also funny when it comes to fountain soda, the mixes are always different. Theres was perfect. The salad was good, but its salad... Im not going to get too excited for salad. We both got the butcher block special, with the garlic butter. It was a delicious perfectly done steak. We also got the fettuccine alfredo, which is the best fettuccine alfredo I ever had. the texture of the noodles were spot on, the Alfredo wasnt too rich.. it was perfect. Everything about our meal tonight was perfect. We are now regulars at Louies Hanover Square.
The place was crowded on a Friday night, but not too loud. We waited for about 15 mins before we were seated (we had a reservation). The waitstaff were friendly and attentive. The house wine and craft beer were decent. Since the entrees came with a soup or salad, we did not order any appetizers. We both had the Seafood ala Louie, where seafood included shrimp and langostinos. Shrimp were done perfectly, but langostinos were not as tender. I did not notice that the dish was to be topped with pecorino romano (clearly stated in the menu). The cheese was too pungent for me. So I only picked out the seafood and did not eat the pasta. This was my own mistake as my husband enjoyed the dish.
The food here was the best Italian food Ive had in a long time. I had the tour of Italy and if you can get down to Hanover Square it is well worth your time. They brought fresh bread to the table. The Calimari appetizer was fantastic. I also tasted some of the Phillie cheese steak sub and it melted in my mouth to perfection. The Horseradish sauce was tantalizing.
Louie’s has become my favorite place to dine within the greater Corning-Elmira area. Every course of food is exquisite—from the Classic Shrimp Scampi & Bruschetta appetizers to the side salad comprised of baby arugula, red, yellow & orange peppers, grape tomatoes, cucumbers and croutons with house Italian dressing, to the main course. I love the wide array of Italian pasta entrée specials consistently offered, as well as the delectable homemade desserts. Tiramisu has been my favorite thus far, but I have yet to try the cannoli or homemade ice cream sandwich with Nutella. Oh, and not to be forgotten—the wine list is always populated with a stupendous lineup of wine choices from around the world. This quaint little street corner restaurant is has a crisp and classy atmosphere with a menu and service that will not disappoint. EVERYTHING tastes great!
My fiance and I ate here without planning to do do after hearing how great it was and we loved it! Casual and yet classy atmosphere! The owners seem to be on site often and are very personable! The calamari app was cooked perfectly! We both had pasta dishes and were very pleased! We wished there was table bread to sop up every last bit of sauce! Id love to see a more unique wine list but the glass I had was just fine! We will be back for sure!
We were here for a rehearsal dinner in their back room. All of the appetizers and food were delicious. The service was fantastic, too. I enjoyed their pizza a lot. I even ate fried eggplant, which I would never try had I known. Lol. Some food did have lots of garlic, but it was still amazing.
I was here for my sisters rehersal dinner. it was an already busy Friday night then they added in our party of 40 so kudos from the get go! i was also very impressed at how well the waitresses kept up, they did a fantastic job!! now obviously the food was pre-ordered by the couple. and Im going to mention here that i am an EXTREMELY picky eater but we had artisanal pizzas with a variety of toppings available (also salads but i dont eat that stuff 😂) i had 2 slices of the pepperoni, it was yummy. i dont live in the area but would definitely recommend.
Everything was delicious and the server was pleasant and extremely accommodating of our indecisive selves! My only complaint was that the tomatoes for the caprese salad were cut close to the end caps. Their tomato sauce and tomato bisque are incredible, and my salmon was perfectly cooked. Whatever you do, dont skip dessert (even if you have to take it to-go, as we had to!)
I have ordered pizza from them many times. It is always a mystery if the pizza will be good or not. Sometimes the pizza is good enough for nyc standards and then other times it is comparable to dominos. Staff is always nice but service is so slow. A regular pie shouldn’t take 40 minutes.
Super love. The calamari tasted fresh and soft to chew. The marinara dip is a perfect accompaniment. Tomato soup is wonderful. The entrees are delicious and gerously sized. I have Shrimp ala Louie. Lots of shrimps. My husband has Chicken Parm. 2 big chicken cutlets. Both are excellent. I am still enjoying my food while doing this review.Service is phenomenal!
Was looking for a good place for our birthday dinners, the pics looked great so we made a reservation. The place looks new, but has been around 12 years I am told, very beautifully renovated in the last couple years! We ordered the Garlic Ties, a few entrees and a pizza, all of which were delicious! It was definitely more than enough food for 4 people. Service was excellent as well, will definitely be back and recommending to others!
My wife found this place online. The decor is awesome with a combination of rustic and classic. I ordered a margarita personal pizza just to try and it was worth it! Took it home to eat later. My wife ordered the beans & greens, shes a connoisseur, said it was one of the best she had! We both ordered chicken parmigiana, I the breaded with fettuccine and hers grilled with gluten-free pasta. Both very good. We finished splitting the cannoli Sundae and very good decaf coffee.
Its a great local restaurant. I do recommend you to make reservations because the seats go fast! I always get from the butcher block and am never disappointed. They have added gluten free pasta to their menu. One of my favorite places to go. The waitstaff are super great as well.
Loved the experience and the ambiance! It is worth the visit and try reserving a table than walking in. We had to wait for sometime to grab a table. The servers were pretty busy, but attentive. we would go back again.. The pizza is a standard choice but you can try couple of Italian dishes as well.
The Beans and Greens with Sausage, and a serving of Garlic Ties are a great start. The Louies Pasta never disappoints. Service was friendly and very accommodating. We had a party of four, we didnt feel rushed. Finished off the meal with the Limoncello Cake, perfection!
Small yet unique little bistro-type restaurant with amazing food. The garlic ties are the best EVER - once youve had them youll never be able to eat there again without ordering them!! The food is delicious, consistent, and the service has always been great. Highly recommended!
This is one of the best modestly priced Italian restaurants that have ever been to and is by far the best Italian restaurant in the Finger Lakes region. The diversity of the menu items is impressive: from pizzas and pastas to sophisticated meat dishes, everything was excellent. The homemade garlic bread was the best I ever had anywhere.
Having a party of 13 for our sons 16th Birthday and having Louies his first request we werent sure if they could accommodate. Not only did they accommodate, they made every moment, all the meals and the whole atmosphere a pleasure for all. The food was AMAZING, staff were super accommodating and a meet and greet with one of the owners made the night a memorable one for sure. This is two Birthdays in two weekends that the Ruggerio family fed our large group of loved ones and went above and beyond to make our celebrations perfect! Thank you for doing what I try but cannot compare to, cooking for my family! We will continue these traditions for years to come!!!
Awesome!!!!! Louies special piizza is the best of the best! Service is always top notch as compared with another Italian restaurant just across the street. I would recommend that you get reservations. Place is always full and that is a good sign.Other dishes are done very well. Everyone makes you feel welcome and everyone remembers you. Great Job!
Normally I have great meals at Louies. I havent been here in about 6 months. The type of bread that was used for my sandwich was different and the chicken was fried. The oil seemed to be old and the chicken was saturated in grease. Ill give it another try as I normally have great meals here.
We were passing through driving from Niagara to Hershey, PA. I did a google search for Authentic Italian in the area and found Louies. I noticed some of the reviews stated it was a very small dining room and could cause some wait time. I called the restaurant and they were not only friendly, but very helpful. They asked how many in our party and then saved us a table for the estimated time of our arrival. The food did not disappoint. One of the best meals we have had. Vacation just isnt a vacation without great meals to go along with the good times. Louies is a must stop if you are in the area. I highly recommend the chicken carbonara!
Shocking experience. We waited at our table for almost 15 mins with no one checking on us even once, while tables next to us, who came way later, had servers within minutes. When I asked why we were being ignored, the answer I got was ‘don’t know’ or ‘we’re busy’. We left of course and will never be going back.
I had dinner here with my husband Saturday January 30th and it was delicious. The tomato bisque soup was amazing! I had pasta with clam sauce (and it was loaded with clams) and my husband got the shrimp alfredo. Both very good and filling. It was easy to get a table as walk-ins, but they also take reservations.
Love the cream of pomadoro soup! It’s a must, whenever I dine there. Menu is limited, but has something for everybody. I have never had a meal there that wasn’t completely satisfying and delicious. Waitstaff is always friendly and accommodating to your needs. Hanover Square is lucky to have such a gem in its midst!
Belated birthday dinner and it was pretty darn good! Chicken Carbonara w/rigatonis, side salad and Italian bread. Tasty, but just a bit overpriced at $21+. But because minimum wage has gone up, prices are up to cover employer expenses. Id return to try other entrees they offer.
Stopped in late for a beer and to share a pizza. Were from out of town so were recommended to come here by the hotel. They were spot on. Pizzas (Pollo fra Diavolo and Louies Special) were awesome. We couldnt decide between the two options so the waitress suggested one pizza with both options, half and half. Good beer options for a limited selection (about 10). Wed definitely go back if were back in town.
Great place with great food. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We were on a road trip to Niagara and this pit stop was well worth it. Ate the herrbivore pizza and vodka pasta (custom made) - the garlic on the pizza was awesom. Kids had the chicken fingers and the butter pasta . We got greedy coz the flavors were so good that we ordered another personal marhjeritta pizza . Highly recommended ..
Fantastic little place with great service. My husband and I are traveling in the area and came upon this place. Will definitely return when were back in the area. The Pomodoro soup was best Ive ever had. The fresh, warm bread with aioli excellent. I had the carbonara which was to-die-for-good, my husband the Chicken Riggies also delicious, pasta cooked to perfection..Do NOT pass up the Lemon Berry Mascarpone cake it is divine. Very light with just the right touch of lemon to bring out the berry flavors. Loved this place!!!
We were passing through from Baltimore and found this gem of a restaurant! In an area surrounded by “commercial America” with nothing but restaurant chains, this was a charming atmosphere with great food! We got the pizza of course but other options available on their menu...
Do not like the seating...we went To lunch and had to sit with strangers. The food was ehh....ordered grilled chicken , It came with spinach and broccoli . I got a tiny bit of spinach and 1 little piece of broccoli. No and , no bread with meal. Very expensive for nothing..
Fabulous from the moment we walked in. This place is a gem in our area. If you havent been here yet and you live here, make this your next date-night spot. Live in Corning or somewhere else near by? Uber yourself there! The service is top-knotch and the food is delectable. I was really taken aback, Louies. Great work providing us with quality from start to finish! Youve gained a true fan.
What can I say but everything I have ordered recently was disgusting, gave them a chance to make a salad and even that was bad wilted lettuce and old ingredients, most of the 5 star reviews are auto generated, didn’t enjoy the fish smell on everything before so tried a salad even that was unacceptable

2021-07-03I really liked their food! The garlic knots and dessert were the right choices and delicious.. but the pasta was good.. not my favorite sausage or meatballs in the Louie’s Pasta that we ordered. Huge quantities of food! 2 people can easily share. I wish we had got a pizza instead of that pasta or a different one. We had a good bottle of wine and the decor is industrial and comfortable. I’d eat there again if in the area

2022-08-09Specialty dishes were wonderful. They also suggested a nice wine to pair with our steak. More than enough to eat, we took some home too! Staff was attentive and helpful.

2022-08-22The meatballs tasted like homemade which is a very good thing to me! We didn’t love the pizza but that was trying something different from the usual so that doesn’t really count. We were informed that there was only one chef so service would be very slow. The food took a bit but our server made sure we never felt neglected so the wait was not an issue. Overall great experience!

2022-04-23Food was very good, service was not which made for a disappointing experience. Waitress was not welcoming and made us feel rushed. She never came back to see how our entrees were, didnt offer dessert and instead of dropping off the check and giving us time to finish our wine she stood and waited for payment. Our entrees were very good but probably wont go back for a while.

2020-09-18The food was wonderful, everything expertly crafted with one small exception (shrimp were a bit overcooked and slightly chewy). Pizza was wonderful (first time trying). Pro tip: if you order the Bruschetta (amazing 😍) have that sent out by itself first if you are ordering multiple appetizers or it will get a bit soggy.Only complaint : it was pretty slow when we were there (2 - 3 other tables total) but service was slow to refill and check in (she seemed to be pretty busy talking to the customer at the bar). Very friendly but just not very attentive for a slow night.

2022-07-21Attended this restaurant on Thursday 19 May after my wifes aunts funeral service. Group reservation and family style dinner of salad, two pasta dishes, chicken parmigiana with cannolis for dessert. Very nice ambiance. The meal was very tasty and the service staff were fast, polite and very efficient. Due to where I live (outside the U.S.), its doubtful that I will ever be back to Louies Hanover Square but should I ever find myself in the neighbourhood again, Id return. Thank you for a wonderful meal and dining experience.

2022-07-09The atmosphere was great, the service was great but my meal was pretty gross. I ordered the chicken marsala and the breading was soggy on my chicken, my chicken was overcooked and bland. The marsala sauce was bland.Ive eaten here before and my food was good, so Im not sure what happened here. Ill give it another chance, just beware the chicken marsala. This place is too expensive for the food to not be exceptional.

2022-05-28Had lunch there today, told waitress that I couldnt have pickles on my plate. She brought my meal with pickle and pickles juice all over my food. Took plate back returned in 10 seconds with the same food. They dont care if they poison you! No manager came over and they then overcharged everyone at the table. Stay away from this place.
