Standing room area is a complete joke. We had to go to the back bar area and stand behind a rope with an incredibly limited amount of space. I dont recommend coming here if there arent table tickets available. Its my first time here, and certainly my last. Standing room tickets are not worth it here. Ive been in standing room areas in other venues; this place has it the worst.
Decent space, on the smaller side. Drinks are SUPPER PRICY even for a NYC club. Every time I iIve here I spent $100+ other clubs I average around $60-$70 mind you this is for beers only. And if itβs busy good luck getting a drink. If your not here to drink itβs a good time but if your trying to party hard, maybe do it somewhere else.
Small venue with some table seating in the back and standing in the orchestra area. Good sound and reasonable drink prices. They serve food too but I have never eaten there. They dont have a coat check which is annoying if you go there in cold weather and dont have a seat. It gets hot during the show and you have to hold your coat the whole show.* I received a reply saying that they do have a coat check but when I was there on 11/18/19 I asked two different employees and both said there wasnt one.
Totally intimate the band/act is right there with you, like thr good ol days. And none of that ticketmaster BS. Great acts, $24 for a show, and its got some of that vibe of what the city used to feel like before Disney took over times Square all those years ago that started the gentrification and tear down of some of the classics, Pyramid, Continental, A7, Ward 6, etc. The gritty that some of us love and miss, youll find the transport unit thru the front doors.
β οΈπ¨π¨β οΈ I came here many times before. However on this particular occasion (4/20/22) I was barred from entering because this venue is still mandating TOTALITARIAN measures when it comes to proof of vaccination. The mandate was lifted weeks ago by the mayor. I explained this to the gentleman who checks identifications. I asked to speak to whoever is in charge of either A) letting me in or B) a refund for my ticket. The person who is supposedly in charge of the establishment goes by the name of Ruben. Ruben showed no compassion whatsoever while telling me some stupidity about tickets purchased before the mandate was lifted still require vaccination. Now tell me how stupid and non sensical that sounds. LPR is retroactively placing mandates in place. Due to these draconian rules LPR seem to be making up on their own, I was not allowed to enter and I lost the value of my ticket.I therefore was robbed and disrespected as a customer. Its shameful and scummy behavior on behalf of LPR β οΈπ¨π¨β οΈUPDATE: LPR decided to respond to my review, negatively and mockingly of course. Further justifying thier made up rules of retroactively requiring vaccinations and labeling it unique. Whether it was posted or not is not the issue. The fact that this establishment sees fit to place such restrictions is unjustly, considering mandates are no longer in force. Further more, to not issue a refund and pocket a customers money is an immoral low move. Theyd rather burn bridges and good will with a customer than remedy the situation. Telling from other negative reviews, LPR has piss poor management and diplomacy skills.β οΈπ¨π¨β οΈ
Came here to see Das Mortal, Dance With The Dead, and Magic Sword; absolutely astounding experience for my first synthwave concertEXCEPT for the guy who accussed me of stealing as I bought a shirt for accidentally grabbing a few pins that I thought were complimentary. Rather than observing the situation for what it was, the gentleman proceeded to put his hands on me in an attempt to escort me out.I can understand to be his position, but to be villainized in my first live synthwave experience is less than desirable. He claims his name was Josh and that he was the tour manager working for the band and didnt give me anywhere to report to, instead asking security to escort me outside.I will be doing everything in my power to report this man to the proper authorities.
Went to a Greg Laswell October 1. and it was amazing. The service is fast and the atmosphere is really awesome. There is a table minimum of 2 items pr. person and you can only pay by credit card. A gratuity of 20% + tax 8.75 is added to all checks. Cocktails $15 / beer $7/8 (+tip and tax).
Jessieβs Girl - Friday nights 80βs revival is simply the BEST 80βs night Iβve ever been to. If youβre a fan you MUST go. We were really blown away by the 3 singers and the band. Amazing set list and the crowd loved every moment of it. If youβre visiting NYC do add it to your list. Worth the late night!
Updated review: Came to LPR once again to see Echosmith, Weathers and Jayden Bartels on 2/13/20. Great venue and staff as always. Good prices on drinks too. Will definitely be coming back soon!Original review: Very nice little venue. Went to see Astrid S on 9/17. Be prepared to buy at least two items in the showroom, theyre reasonably priced. I felt a little unsafe since they didnt check bags, I asked them if bag checks were necessary and they said no. Other than that it was a pretty venue.
Fairly small venue for concerts in a basement on Bleeker St.The sound in this place is pretty good. Great place to see some talented bands in a fairly intimate setting. This location is bigger than the original, even if its larger. The place also has a decent bar with a polite staff.
Lovely intimate show venue. The tables are beautiful & the drinks are delicious. The show I attended had a two drink minimum which is easy to accumulate. The staff were very helpful with me and my walker. The accoustics arent amazing but it doesnt matter if the artist is playing a low key show. The one I saw had only a piano and it was the perfect venue for it. Though it is inside & vaccination cards were necessary.
Bouncers outside are incredibly rude and aggressive! When concerns were raised to the manager he did nothing but dismiss the complaint and encourage the bouncerβs behavior. Extremely disappointed by this treatment and wouldnβt want for anyone else to experience this. Do better!
Fantastic location with a great selection of food, drinks and eatery to go to. Great customer service and prices. The area also has a outdoor area to sit and eat. Also the mall has seating so you can eat indoors. Most of the food stations close around 8 pm so if your planning to visit, be sure to get there early. Also most of the food stations serve the food at a fast time as well. Again a great place to visit!
The 80s Show was a total surprise and an Excellent time! I think every genre of music was covered, including The Cure (our favorite part). Steer clear of the 18 bachelorette parties going on at the same time and guys who cant handle their liquor and you will have a blast.
Based on my experience I would give 3 stars but I can see how I could rate it higher an a different night. I went to a sold out show and it was very crowded with poor sight lines. This made it harder to enjoy the jazz musicians playing. Sound and ambience was good. Serving drinks in plastic cups is also kind of lame. Ill probably go again.
Came to see the Cruel Intentions show, which was great. The two item minimum per person was a little obnoxious since Iβd just eaten, but I certainly understand the need to make profit in the space. My cider was great but the tater tots I ordered were a little stale and not particularly warm or flavorful.
Great venue to watch live performances. We were sitting in seats farthest away from the stage on the main floor and we still felt very close and intimate with the performers. The bartenders make excellent cocktails! Theres room to dance in the back if you were so inclined. Im definitely coming back to see other shows.
The former home of the historic Village Gate Theater, where the likes of Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin once graced the stage, this subterranean venue generally features very good sound. Seated shows tend to suffer from the typical jazz seating arrangement, i.e. patrons are crammed into place and may have to contort their head in strange angles to see the stage. General Admission shows tend to be a nicer experience, although sold out shows can be jam-packed. The VIP section is tucked into a back corner on a platform. The bar offers a decent selection of cocktails and has solid food. Be forewarned that your phone will likely have minimal service this far underground.
Went last Saturday with DH and friends...and ooh we had a blast! Jessies Girl and Party Rock bands performed our favorite songs. We danced through the night on floor and stage! :D We could tell everybody was there with the same intent: enjoy each others company and the bands. Crowd was enthusiastic and mostly in their 30s/40s. Musicians are very charismatic and top notch, what a great vibe. Not bad for a cold night in the city!
Great place to see some live music. We were there for some Metal. Place is small enough to feel intimate, but large enough that your face isnt in the next guys hair. Prices very reasonable for NYC, and excellent selection of beers and spirits. I look forward to the next event at LPR.
Excellent venue. The stage is up close so you get an intimate experience with the performers. The ability to sit at a table so close to the stage is great, I wish more concert venues would be like this. Servers were nice and attentive. The food was good and the prices were fair. Id definitely come back.
This is such a sweet venue. The atmosphere is classy, laid back, and low key. Ive seen two shows here so far and they were both awesome. The sound is great, and there really isnt a bad place to sit or stand.Phone service is pretty limited, but youre at a concert, so who cares.
Great venue in downtown New York City. One of the best the city has to offer and truly independent and non-corporate!Used to be called the Village Gates in the 70es and is now owned and operated by musicians who created a space to host one of the most varied, eclectic and interesting music programming the city has to offer. The venue offers food and drinks, seated or standing, with a stage that can also be setup in the round and it comes with a fantastic sound system, modern state of the art mixing consoles and operated by knowledgeable staff and great sound engineers who make things sound great night after night. Highly recommended!!!
I feel like its 90s night every night, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Theoretically they rotate the schedule of themed cover bands, but regardless of what the theme is if the night, its sure to be a good time.If youre a serious music goer, this isnt the place for you. If youre not interested in carrying on a conversation with your friends, that also wont happen. But if youre in for a good time casually singing along to some throwback hits, then buy a ticket in advance and skip the line.
Great venue. Have been there a few times. Shows can range from lines around the block and standing room only, to cozy seating. The service staff are great and I have always enjoyed the shows at this location. Worth a try if you are interested in a fun, eclectic venue.
I was here to see Post Animal. The venue was great in that the Sound and Lighting was all professional production level but the venue is small and intimate. There is no seating so it is a stand up show and the place is typically packed Im sure. It really is not very big! But there are adequate bathrooms a good bar and a lot of great history in this venue. And Post Animal was awesome!
Unique place with an intimate feel. I saw Dean Wareham here and it was a really nice show. The audience can get right next to the stageβthere is no heavy security vibeβand itβs a great place to see a show. Functional bar, good vibes and chill people. Good spot.
As soon as I heard my favourite singer before a show by a cover band inspired by my favourite show, I knew this was a place for me. I was also surprised by the audio sound quality and volume - unusual for this size venue. I wouldnt go here for just eating or drinking - food isnt all that, but service is good.
I came here for Jessies Girl and 80s night and had such a good time! The band definitely made the whole night but it helped that the bartenders were quick and helpful. The drinks cost what youd expect them to, which isnt cheap. It looks like they offer bottle service too. Expect bachelor/bachelorette parties and groups of college students when youre there!
Im not generally that into clubs and parties, but this place is just great. It has so many awesome events, from the 80s/90s parties on the weekends to the Art Battle competitions they host. It can of course get crowded, with copious amounts of drunk people bashing into each other, but thats all par the course for these things. Still, one of the best places in town for a night out on the weekend.
Its exactly what you would expect. I went for 90s night, and it was a ton of fun, extremely loud, and not packed. They are wheelchair accessible. The small gin and tonic I needed to dance to Nelly (it was actually more of a 90s-00s night because everyone but us was born in the 90s) was $13.
This place was great until May 26th, at the Rhythm Revue Freedom party when the venue decided that having nowhere for this older crowd to sit was a good idea. All of a sudden, they had only a bottle service seating area. And after speaking, not happily might I add, to management dis they bring seating back out. Will be questioning whether I will return for the next dance party.
One of the most solid unchanging venues in the city. Ive seen everything from contemporary classical to metal to rnb dance parties here. When they do table seating its first come first serve, you find your own seats, so get in line early for that. Main space is like a large living room. Downstairs space is a long narrow bar with plenty of room for dancing.
The drinks are over priced for the quality and the food is grossly expensive for items that should only be served to a child as a packed lunch. 9 bucks for frozen tots? A dry sandwich that comes with potato chips? The wine is awful as well. The tables were wobbly and the arrangement of the seating was also unnecessarily tight. I will not return there or recommend it ever.
One of the more eclectic venues in NYC. Small enough that it feels intimate, big enough that it gets some great headliners. From jazz to doom metal to folk to drag queens to burlesque. New York City really has it all and this venue represents that. Drink prices are reasonable if youre a local (obscene if youre from a different city but hey, theyve gotta pay the rent somehow). If your favorite band or artist is playing here youre in luck. If not, you could chance it with a winter jazzfest show or one of their many others. They clearly love music.
LPR is a fantastic music venue. Ive seen many shows here - some standing room, some seated, and theyve all been great. Its a very intimate setting, and its great to see some very unique acts so close and personal. Drinks are reasonably priced, as is the food, although theres nothing fantastic about the choices.
Fun venue and a cool place for special events. This venue has some unfortunate sight lines sadly, the columns that surround the round stage can and often obscure your view. This place is usually well booked so keep an eye on the calendar for their concert schedule!
Went for a show - got the tickets with seating.Seating around the stage was a bit awkward (the angles/orientation of tables and chairs)There are pretty good views of stage though, since the place isnt too large, so fairly intimate.I thought sound for the show could have been better - the music from the instruments was considerably louder than the vocals which was unfortunate since the singer was the main event.2 item minimum (didnt really seem enforced)Food:The sandwiches were very good - spicy chicken was decently spicy and tender; French dip sandwich - moist meat, the dip was very lightCocktails for $14 and beers on tap for around $7Service was okay. Settling the bill took a bit longer than Id prefer.
Spot is spacious. I like the set up. Outside of the main performance area is a decent sized bar area, the bathrooms and coat check. This is the 1st section when coming into the venue down the stairs. Once they open up the doors to the main area there is another bar as well. So you have the option of 2 bars. Decent sound system.
The show I saw was magnificent. The service was very good, and the chance to sit at a table and have food and drinks while watching a show is very civilized, and not done enough. The draft beer was very tasty, the tater tots were also good, but the salad I ordered (while hearty and very healthy) needed variety and perhaps longer contact with the dressing before serving.
Very cool atmosphere, I saw pharoah Sanders here, absolute legend, intimate space, mostly standing room only unless youre dining, nice area outside of stage in case you need a little quiet for a few minutes, affordable tickets, good area to grab food and drinks before and after in the nyu area
I only come for linda loves bingo. Its fun. Happy hour ends quick though, so make sure to order a few ahead of time. Its a totally G rated drag event, so if you always wanted to bring your grandma to see a drag event, this is totally for you. The prizes are pretty cool too.
Great 90s and 00s music but only if you ignore all black artists. Only heard like 3 black artists over entire 3 hour set. I guess its taylored to the crowd though cause there were very few black people in general. But maybe thats because the setlist is the way it is. Anyway still pretty fun place
Unique, and inspiring. French for, The Red Fish, this hipster location with polite and friendly staff will change your night. Bottle service available, and all types of music played in this venue. Frank made our groups night special snd highly recommend meeting his friend facr either at the door or inside.
Favorite music venue in Manhattan. Always a surprising variety of acts coming through β Ive seen it all: singer-songwriter; hip-hop / art rap; folk-y electronics; string quartets; and perhaps my personal favorite, le rap franΓ§ais (shout out to Bigflo & Oli). And to top it all off, the venue has one of my favorite stage configurations β even if you arrive late to a packed show, youll still be able to find a clear line of sight, unlike e.g. many of the Bowery Presents locations.TL;DR: check this place out.
This place really hits the spot for a certain crowd...just not for me.I came here with a friend and it was 90s night (If I remember correctly). While the bouncers were cordial and the atmosphere was somewhat friendly... the crowd is overwhelmingly white ---yes I know we are in America--and frat-like-americans who look fresh out of college (nothing wrong against that type of aesthetic and culture, just a fact about my experience). Thus, as i have read in some reviews below, about girls pushing and yelling and people who cant handle their alcohol and just gyrate with whoever is close by, are true from my experience. The bathroom facilities here is also not up to par...so the lines can get really ridiculous. With all that said, the music was solid. My friend, on the other hand, didnt really mind it and had more fun (so I guess it all comes down to what one is looking for).
I went to drag bingo here on a Saturday night, hosted by Linda. Its a fun evening out with an arrival around 6:30pm and bingo from 7:30-9:30pm. Once bingo is over, therea quick turnover of the space, so dont expect to hang out afterwards. Drinks are anywhere from $9-$14 though specials offer some $4 mixed drinks and shots. Fun space, if not a little cramped.
Four stars for the music and the vibe. With so many music venues closed or moved across the river to that other borough, LPR remains one of my fav places where I have heard some fantastic musicians. Drinks and appetizers are attractively priced and good quality. On the negative side the sound levels of the performances approach torture even when wearing Vibes. The Martin speakers are among the best in the world and quite a few performances were properly mixed and amplified. Please consider your music fans who dont want to suffer permanent hearing loss. This is a simple matter of keeping sound pressure levels within the humane realm
The place is Nice, good sound, and the staff is polite and professional. It was the First time we go out for a party night at usa and we (my girfriend and I) were impressed by the rudeness that young people, mostly women, show after one or two drinks: slams, souls, invasion of personal space, etc. almost ruined the night. that completely contradicted everyβ notion we had of American people.
I went to Le Bingo at Le Poisson Rouge on Saturday night and it was so much fun! From 7:30 - 9:30pm every Saturday night you can hang out with the great hostess in drag and her trusty sidekick. Free to enter, $2 per bingo card. Drink specials (based on what the spinning wheel lands on) and prizes galore! We were a group of three, showed up around 7:15 and were able to get a table. It does get crowded, so go a little early and grab a drink.Drinks were served in plastic cups which surprised me.Id recommend going for Le Bingo. I have not been otherwise.
Some of my favorite events and parties in NYC happen at LPR. One of the best is Oh! You Pretty Things! which happens semi-regularly and is always a good time. Very fun and diverse crowd - I feel like almost anyone would be at home here. The drinks are pricey but not excessively so, and the cocktails are pretty good. Love the photo booth near the bathrooms, and I love even more that it takes credit cards.
Ive seen Jessies Girl twice. Its great for those who experienced the full decadence of the 80s, as well as those who lived through the decade, but too young to party (like myself). Its also proof that great music never dies, because both times I went, I saw people not even old enough to remember this music when it came out, yet they knew all of the words to every song played. Just be careful you dont accidentally slap someone when the 99 Red π are unleashed.
An unfortunate venue with nothing to recommend it acoustically. This, coupled with the most unpleasant wait staff and infelicitious menu make for an uncomfortable and aurally difficult evening. This establishment serves neither the music they purport to exhibit or the audience they seek to rip off in every way.
Intimate, fun venue for live music and dancing. Saw Santigold and Diplo here and loved the proximity to the performers as well as the lively crowd. Bar is long to minimize the wait and bathrooms were clean considering the number of people who had used them that night. Also, theres a photo booth, so Ill let you determine for yourself whether that makes or break the party.
It was a terrible experience, the menu was very limited (i.e. French onion soup, tater tots, crostinis, salads, and sandwiches). The drinks are way overpriced for the place and the quality. The crostini were actually soda crackers with a jam! I got the wrong whiskey served. Ah, they kicked everyone out at 9 pm.I will not come back to this place, there are way too many great places in New York.
This place is still worth visiting for the unique musical offerings; however, their obvious money-grubbing is a dead turnoff ,and service overall needs work. They require anyone who purchases a table-seating ticket to order at least two items from the menu, as well as automatically adding a 20% gratuity; visitors who are not on to this may end up adding more, which Im sure theyre counting on. Whats served (that Ive tried) is ok, but nothing special; for ex., to control costs, I usually order a salad -- which, I was told long ago, comes with dressing (I. E., no dressing on the side). Worse even, on two occasions, I had to wait far too long to get back my credit card/ change; I had to ask another waitress to summon my waiter so that I could get my change.
You might not get into the Poisson Rouge (Red Fish in French) - the locals call it the Poison Rouge - I guess they dont speak French... anyway, if you dont get in, the whole corner of LaGuardia and Bleecker are packed with live music bars. Its Greenwich Village, after all.
Okay, LPR definitely pulls in the talent, and the location is great. But as I stood there listening to the bands, my feet swelling by the minute, I couldnt help but eye those tables. Lots of them. All empty. All topped with signs saying, Two drink minimum. And otherwise, no chair in the joint (unless you want to hang around outside the bathroom).Really, I wanted to like this place, but it just seems soulless, and the moneygrubbing is hard to overlook.
This venue always has something interesting going on: live bands, theme parties, DJs spinning, and even bingo. The atmosphere is built around gorgeous contemporary art that looks to have been stolen from the MoMA. The acoustics arent the best, but are still better than most places in the city. Just be prepared for loud (like every other club scene).Drinks are expensive and sometimes tickets sell out. For popular events, expect a long line. Maybe convince a friend to grab you some filafel at Mamouns down the block while you wait.

2022-04-28The venue had a beautiful performer tonight. Jesse J. LPR packed us in like cattle. No seating standing only, They opened the door at 6:30. The show started at 8:30. People pushing and shoving to try to get to te stage area. No security keeping people safe. It was not worth going even though the performance was great the manager of LPR only cared about making money and selling booze.

2022-05-23Totally awesome venue! Went to see Frontline Assembly here I waited 15 years to see them! I like the decour it is almost this purple tint that burgundy type reflection that sets a romantic mood but also a darkness that only a venue like this can have. I really enjoyed the experience there and there is seating that not only looks stylish but gives you comfort and sense of being part of the underground music movement. I hope I made at least one friend here from the show and definitely enjoyed the experience. I ran into Bill Leeb before the show started it was a brief encounter outside the venue. But Ill never forget how cool the experience of being here was. It really felt a lot like that scene from the Matrix when Trinity, encounters Neo for the first time. What an awesome event thanks for the memories!

2022-05-28Went here for a mini concert by Broadway Sings. Besides the show (which was fantastic!), the venue is very chill and intimate too. Would come here again for another show!

2022-02-28Saw The Birthday Massacre perform here and it was great!! The staff took great care of me when I got overheated and passed out (combo of that and a neurological issue I have - I didnt know the lights were going to be so flashy for this set and my brain decided to take a vacation from consciousness - ask in advance if the performances will have strobe effects!) - no fault of the venue or the band, just happens to me in big crowds / shows with certain lights sometimes. I was taken care of the whole way through until I came to, given lots of water and kept a close eye on me to make sure I didnt get hurt. Going above and beyond for the attendees - thats what makes a place worth going to!Some places arent as kind, and will throw you out thinking youre drunk or on drugs, instead of asking if you have a health condition (its happened to me before.. At Slimelight, London). These people take care of you if anything ever happens. Makes the whole experience very welcoming! Thanks for a great night guys!! π€

2022-05-15To be fair on my rating: I went for a Korean groups tour, so it was not for the experience of this place *as a club*Decent size venue, however the stage doesnt quite feel as *stage-like* as other venues. Also should probably have more solid barriers or enforce barrier limits a bit better.Bar staff was pretty friendly at the end of the night, didnt interact much with other venue staff. Also not too keen on the fact that they double book the venue with an early show and a late show as the early show (in this case the Korean group I went to see) really feels like it gets shafted from the full concert experience.

2022-05-13Very intimate venue in a good way; good sound quality, clean bathrooms, very nice staff, and a good size seating area. I also really, REALLY appreciate that they actually do check your covid vaccine cards at the door and do so conscientiously (marching names to ID for example). Thanks LPR for making it a safer place for all of us attendees (and staff) by doing that.

2021-11-14Saw a few shows here, the last being pre pandemic Peter Murphy doing a David Bowie set. Sound was good and you can see from pretty much anywhere because the stage is nice and high.

2022-05-01A very cool venue in Lower Manhattan that comfortably hosts shows from solo acts and bands to stand up comedy and club shows. Neil Hamburger last night was fantastic!! And Major Entertainer is someone you need to experience at least once. DUCK THE NIGHT UP!!

2022-04-12I was at the gig with ReachNYC, Palisades and Blind Channel. The LPR staff were nice and caring to us. I would love to give a shout-out to Frankie, he was truly amazing. The whole staff were amazing and attentive to your personal needs. Thank you LPR, Will return for future events!
