Macs Drive-In in other cities:
I’ve been there 5 times now. All good experiences. The only things I can say that I didn’t like are quite minor. When I ordered the chicken in a basket the fried chicken tasted like fish. I’m assuming it’s because they fry the fish and chicken in the same oil. I’d recommend eating at one of the tables because I’ve received better service there. The burgers, grilled chicken sandwich, coleslaw, and fries are really good. I’ve always disliked the taste of root beer...that is until I tried Mac’s. It’s sooooo good!! I always look forward to it reopening every spring! Make sure to bring cash!
Forty five years and still great food. It was also good to see Jimmy after so many years! I brought my entire family up from Texas to visit their grandmother. The food was great, everyone left smiling and my picky 90 year old mother will now be a regular. Customers will not be disappointed by the food or the price. Great customer service, the wait is always worth it and like other comments, not many drive-ins exist in the U.S. today.
Ill give 4 stars for the nostalgia & atmosphere. Absolutely adorable place, the prices are BEYOND reasonable. However....at 330pm, without a full house, but with a full staff, no one acknowledged us until we moved from a table to the counter. Our food arrived very quickly...too quickly- my burger was not fully cooked. After being treated like an afterthought, I didnt dare ask for a re-cook. Please get some malt vinegar for the fries. White vinegar just aint right with fresh cut fries! Rootbeer yum, Pabst on tap, drive-in with curb service, all great stuff!
A lovely nostalgic place to eat. The only disappointment was the staff was very stressed and was not always following great hygiene in the kitchen. IF you eat inside you see them cooking. We had a new employee and I overheard another employee joking about how they werent gonna help him and that you just take it and make it . So I was not impressed with that. However, the food wasnt bad and the place is super cute.
Macs is a stable in update new York and for good reason. Beautiful drive in great customer service and fantastic food. The pricing is varies between what you want but never to expensive. Great to eat there as a family or by yourself. Even if you only had $10you could get a decent meal. Great for social distancing too
The place was adorable and definitely worth the visit especially if you happen to be driving by. The service was good the food was ok the prices were fantastic and the overall experience was fun and enjoyable it made me feel like a kid again... I will definitely return in the future!
The quality of the food is down right impressive for the unbelievably low pricing. The atmosphere is really cool and the menu is fairly broad, too. There are items not on the menu such as poutine but Im not sure if others. Maybe ask if they have additional items or specials!
Service was great, super busy but no wait, A+. The food was okay, nothing special, many got shakes and stated they were delicious but I never tried them. Better fries or more meat in the burger would give it a better rating.Neat 50-60s style drive-in which alone is worth one visit.
We went the day before memorial day. It was fun. Convienient for covid. Service was nice, fast, and friendly. But unfortunately most of the food was a bit of a let down. We love old style diners and we got a few things to share and sample. First the bad. Most the foods seemed to be mad the cheapest way possible. Here are a few examples. I got a strawberry milkshake which just tasted like Nesquick. We got fries which sadly were cold tasted like they were frozen and left out to get room temperature and sent out for our meal. No flavor no seasoning. Bland. A place like this should have beautiful hand cut fries gerously salted. My wifes grilled chicken sandwich was a bun, a reheated frozen chicken fillet, and iceberg lettuce. The onion rings were good but they only gove you 6 rings (big or small) for a cost that would surprise you. Now the best part of our meal was the burger. It knocked it out of the park. Definitely go out of your way to get a burger here. Absolutely delicious.
Awesome family owned restaurant with carport window service. The food is awesome and so is the service. My go to is the cheeseburger, macaroni salad, and garden salad. You have to give the root beer a try too, it is very good. Cash only. Prices aee cheap and the food is great. Support local business!
3 for drive up, ordering, and the 4 for the root beer float, but my fries were undercooked and hamburger tasted slightly rancid, so got another same thing, is it possibly a dirty grill or they have gone bad. While Im glad I went once, wont be stopping back, but they do have outside bathrooms and nice picnic area.
Absolutely fantastic food and old school experience!!I had Hoffmans white hot with mustard and their meat sauce and a cheeseburger with ketchup and meat sauce with a Richardsons Root Beer, best cheeseburger Ive had in a very long time and the meat sauce and root beer were fantastic!!I will return soon on my next trip in the area.
If you want to experience an old fashioned drive in definitely stop by or make a trip to Macs. Thank goodness this place is still going strong. I love getting a burger and root beer here. This is a drive in so dont expect anything fancy but you get good value for the food and Ice cream.
Our first time there wasnt the best. After hearing many good things about the place my fiance and I decided to give it a try. Her chicken was cold in the center and my burger didnt have everything on it like I had ordered. Going to give it a second try soon, but kind of disappointed.
What you do when you eat here as you pull up by the overhang can you beep your horn they take your order they bring it out in the hanging on your door like back in the 50s in the 60s they play that kind of music it is simply beautiful you eat right in your car like a drive-in movie theater first time there was awesome and I love it
Has the old school feel is a drive-in movie theater slash restaurant. The food is made to order and was hot and fresh. A majority of the seating is that a bar that surrounds the cooking area so you can watch them prep your food and cook it. Staff was pleasant and friendly. Good location if your doing daily errands or running to the wineries
Great old-school Drive-in! Cant beat the prices either. Fresh cut fries and the root beer in a frosted mug are two big highlights. Save room for dessert as they have delicious ice cream and sundaes. Service is great - today we brought our dog and sat at a picnic table and our server not only brought over water but a little vanilla ice cream cup for our pup! How sweet! Thanks Macs! Definitely recommend!
The only real drive-in restaurant in the Finger Lakes, Macs is a summertime institution. The food is typical, not fancy, but good. The root beer is not to be missed. This pace is always busy, but the carhops are always friendly. Do be patient, you wont be sorry!!And be sure to get a root beer float:)
Great service, fun place with the oldies in the background. Menu is quite extensive. Only downfall for me is their sauce for their signature Macs plate. Kind of a bland souped up red sauce. Kind of ruined it for me. Aside from that their Philly cheese steak was very tasty.
The service and atmosphere was excellent. Food was reasonably priced but lacked some serious flavor when it came to my burger and fry basket. Bun was soaking wet, fries seemed stale. I would come here again for Ice Cream and to just hang out with my family under a beautiful tree.
Old school drive-in. Park and the server walks right up. It has the look, feel, and taste that I expected. If your a food or car enthusiast, you need to visit here. This Cash-only establishment is priced right. And dont let the non-credit payment option stop you from enjoying their delicious strawberry milkshakes, hand cut fries or hot dogs. Conveniently located on the main road, easy to find and menu is simple for summer eats. Dine in your own car as we did or check out their counter service. You wont be disappointed
Ive rated Macs in the past. We make an effort to visit at least once a summer. The food is typical hot dogs, burgers and deep fried fare. The carhop service is fast, friendly and efficient and the prices harken almost as far back as the music from the speakers. Not gourmet, but filling and fun.
Family owned for nearly 60 years. Car hop service, Richardsons Root Beer on draft, fresh grilled burgers. It is a delight to visit in the Finger Lakes. In the summer the doors are all open and the red swivel stools at the bar where you can eat make you feel like it is 1955 all over again. One of my favorite places.
Ill start with this first when I got here I forgot to put my mask on and I just drank a bottle of Gatorade and I had a cough before this covid-19 started so I had a little bit of a cough before it I figured Id mention this just in case its affected how their response was the last time . I was there even though the time before the last time I wore masks . it wasnt so enjoyable the last five - seven times I visited because I ordered onion rings for both fish dinners and never got onion rings I know they heard me because when they asked me if I wanted the onion rings as a substitute for fries or as an add-on and I said add-on . the time before it I got only half the onion rings that I requested but they charged me for the both of onion rings . so I did a little test and I remember what I ordered the last time so I ordered the exact same thing and it come out to the exactly the same amount as it did the last order but I never got the onion rings . I also ordered a small lemonade and shake with the fish . I also ask for a receipt for pretty much all my purchases and the last one they didnt even put onion rings on the receipt even though I requested them . I also made a separate order for one double cheeseburger just to see if I got my change back .theyve done this stuff before in the past and I told management and I dont think they really care .
Awesome place to grab a bite to eat, very good food and a friendly atmosphere. Ive been going to Macs since I was a young kid with my family and I look forward to spring and summer knowing they are open. Love sitting down at the tables and watching the food being cooked. Highly recommend!
.Kids growing up enjoying their food and famous Richardsons root beer floatsFamily tradition to go there every year. A history spot for our family with our generations going there. Love the 1950s/60s theme with the waitresses waiting on everyone in cars and counter and tables etc. U can watch ur food being cooked and the staff so friendly and helpful. Great food.
Had to go because Id been away for years. I realized it was cash-only after wed ordered and I informed our waitress and apologized. I asked where the closest atm was so I could get enough before our food arrived. She gladly told me where atms were and said I could just come back after eating. Ive been away from the small town too long. Great classic drive in with friendly people. Ill go back everytime Im in town.
Was really excited, so we take a two cars....beeping the horns didnt help, so I had two people go out n get help so we could be served...we finally get our food and the fries were cold...no eating utensils, no topping for the hotdog, no side of Bleu cheese. Very disappointed and will not come back!
Macs Drive-In was on our route back from Penny Lane. A 50s style lean to building with an open air counter and covered drive-in ordering stations only seen now at Sonic. Cash only, and you will until somebody has a minute to take your order. The menu is full of comfort food from grlled ceese to fish fries.Unfortunately the line palatable survivors at our picnic table were he fries and drinks. The root beer is fantastic, the malt is a work ofart, and my root beer goat had me smiling.Jus dont order a burger or fish. We were not able to go past the first bite.
Nostalgic drive in. Mac’s is probably the only place in western NY serving Richardson’s Root Beer. The orange soft serve ice cream comes in three sizes and can be twisted with vanilla. The cooks/servers work as a team to get your order to you as quickly as humanly possible.I did notice however that at least one person handled raw hamburger without gloves, wiped her hands quickly on her apron, and continued to serve food. Otherwise it’s an experience that draws visitors from far and wide.
A summer institution here in Seneca County for hot food and cold drinks. A car- hop service is available to customers who like to eat in their cars, like in days of old. There is are tables and a serving bar, but non alcoholic. A pretty good selection of food items, and is not pre- prepared. So it is hot and flavorful. My favorite is the root beer float with soft ice cream. Mmmm.
Stood waiting at the counter an older woman came and asked me if my order had been taken and I told her no she yells out at the top of her lungs Front counter and then leaves me standing there no one came and I left this was the 2nd time this has happened everyone tells me if your not a regular customer this happens. Wow!!!

2022-06-08Love love love this place! I wish it was open year round. They have done a good job at not increasing their prices throughout the years. This is cheaper than a fast food place and much better!

2021-07-07What a great experience. The burgers are awesome, the service was fast and the wait staff was courteous. This is a true drive in. Cash only but, inexpensive. Fries are good and so are the onion rings. This place is dog friendly as the wait staff provided water for our pup. The root beer is delicious too.

2022-05-28Good food as always. Root beer was delicious. The kids really enjoyed being able to sit at a picnic table out back.We were NOT happy with how a blonde waitress treated another younger waitress. The blonde was SO RUDE to her! Absolutely uncalled for! Out of the at least 10 other workers around that seen/heard her, not one of them spoke up! Makes ya question how workers are treated there, since they allowed such demeaning treatment of a young employee. Do better management.

2022-04-24We didnt realize it was cash only!! We were only there to get an icecream on this beautiful sunny and hot day. The owner was super nice and gave us a free cone! Definitely reccomend this family owned business! They say the food is really good so we will definitely be going back to try it out. Highly recommend 😁

2022-06-24Its so great to have a Macs Diner in Waterloo! It really belongs anywhere along Rt 66 with its retro design, menu options, and car service, which as far as as I know has not changed since its start.

2020-07-01Pretty darn tasty food! I make routine trips to the VW shop nearby, was with family and finally tried this place out. Great price for everyone, delicious genuine food (fries are not like McDonalds...in a good way!)

2020-08-27What a pleasurable experience hidden on route 20. We stopped on a whim. Saw the menu that is simple yet satisfying, not too mention do you see the prices? Like its frozen in time?!All the staff are young kids and service was fast and friendly. Such a retro vibe we loved it. Its set up like a sonic is with a car hop on the outside as well.Social distancing and cleaning were maintained well.5⭐ in my book.
