After walking 10 miles all over the city trying to find this place, we finally got to our destination and I have to say that I am impressed by everything! My friend and I visited Mad Dogs for the first time today and we were first greeted by the host and she was telling us that there was a happy hour special going on. Let me tell you that this place was packed and I loved the atmosphere and the little sense of being in Mexico kicks in! Our waitress was phenomenal by the way, forgot her name but she was wearing a Bad Bunny hoodie with blond curly hair hahah! She was great and friendly. We ordered their signature Margaritas which were simply Devine! You have to get the strawberry one too but don’t worry Not too strong, but packed with flavor and deliciousness! Let’s get to the good part, I ordered their Mexican style chicken wings which packed a little kick served with I believe some sort of ranch and bleu cheese sauces but the ranch took my breath away! Soooo good. I also got their carne asada burrito, cooked to perfection! Delicious Guac on top! You can’t go wrong ! BUT, my favorite item on the menu would have to be their ELOTE! yes! Their Mexican style corn on a cob hahaha! Mouth watering and a party in your mouth, a little spicy but it was phenomenal! I wanted to get 10 ordered of those! Everything was cooked to perfection and on top of everything, our food service is outstanding. We had our food on our tables within MINUTES!! not easy finding that in Manhattan now is it? So listen, if you’re in the city and you’re looking for a fiesta, come on down to Mad Dogs!
I went here late at night about 2 weeks ago with my friends. The hostess was very polite. The waiter was also outstanding. His name was Felix and he went above and beyond with our service. I really loved the atmosphere of this place and it felt great. I highly recommend the tacos as they are the best tacos I have ever had. The drinks are also great and the money we spent was very little for the amount of food that was given. I can’t wait to go back here with more friends. A MUST GO!
Today will be the last time I will ever step foot in mad dog on Pearl Street. I waited over 20 mins to sit at the bar only for 4 white women to just come in easily skip me. The staff is rude and the Manager basically gas lighted me until I was so uncomfortable I couldn’t even stay and eat.
Have been coming here for years but the service has really fallen off a cliff. Waiters pay zero attention to you. I tried to get a water for 15 minutes, went to the bartender directly and was told no and to ask my server directly instead? And they were serious.I brushed off this level of service the past two times I came here but after the third time I can say I won’t be coming back. Really a shame because it used to be one of my favorite spots in the city.I’m still sitting here enduring this awful experience. Kitchen closes in 9 minutes and we still haven’t ordered food since we can’t get a hold of anyone. When we ordered our drinks and appetizer 30 minutes we were very clear we just needed a few more minutes to look over the menu and decide on entrees. It’s pretty empty inside and to see the server is on her phone with other employees when we are trying to get service is pretty frustrating.Would be more than happy to speak to a manager and discuss.
I love the mexican hot wings but on Cinco De Mayo yesterday they ran out of wings during the day. It was 4 pm and there was no wings! It was pretty busy that afternoon but to run out of wings is horrid during that time of day on that occasion. Otherwise great environment. We had the tequila flights and enjoyed it. I wish there was more outdoor seating on events.
Unfortunately the food here was not good. The food came out cold, the carne asada meat was very low quality and rubbery. The service was subpar. The gentlemen that brought our food out, brought it out on a big serving tray, placed two of the five dishes on our table, then legit ran away to the back. He left the rest our food sitting on the serving tray right next to our table. Why place two dishes on our table and then run away? He eventually came back, but we have no idea why he ran away in the middle of serving. Our bill was over $100 (no alcohol) and it was not worth it for the quality of food.
Stopped here randomly with my bestie. This place was POPPIN. Really good music. Guac was delish. Spicy margs were SO spicy & great. I was a little disappointed in the chimichanga. It was somewhat dry on the inside & not very crispy on the outside. The street corn was pretty good. Seems like a great spot to hang out at the bar. I would def come back here again.
Very friendly and attentive staff. They were great! Super clean restaurant with two floors. First floor has a bar and televisions as well as some tables. Second floor is largely tables. Its a great space for large parties. Plates come with large portions. Salsa and chips were yummy. Though pricey for guacamole, the cocktails were reasonable and delicious. Id definitely go back.
They are following precautions of indoor dining at very reduced capacity. I did see one server with his nose hanging out of the mask while he was serving us food. All the others were masked up properly.Great food. Loaded nachos, chips and cheese, chicken tacos and veggie burrito bowl are the ones we tried and they absolutely delicious. Their frozen margaritas are good and strong. They have different flavors too.For Mexican food, I personally prefer Habenaro sauce. I would have been nice them to provide a hot sauce other than the Cholula.Great ambience and courteous staff. Fun music and beautiful decor.
This place was just about average. The chimichanga and plantains were good, but the Mexican corn was horrible and the corn was not fully grown. This service was horrible they did not come back for refills, nor did they bring us our entire order. The drinks were extremely overpriced and nothing special. Much better options in New York for Mexican.
Mad Dog & Beans is a Mexican restaurant with a large bar and is located in the financial district of manhattan. They also hold events. I visited it at night.I ordered a burrito bowl with chicken and my friend got fajitas with beef. The food itself is good and seasoned (lightly). There could be much more flavor added to the pico de gallo and the guacamole that is served to you.Rice beans and chicken were great in the bowl. Herb fries with the honey mustard was delicious. The bowl comes with tortillas on the side or chips.Fajitas is basically the burrito bowl but with beef and you have to assemble everything yourself, is it worth the extra cost ? Depends if you’re in the mood for beef. The wait staff was attentive and refilled our drinks and got us extra napkins. Definitely did not feel rushed and was checked upon numerous times during our visit. They play music as well at a loud volume but it’s good spanish music that anyone that goes out will of heard before and enjoy, even dance to in the restaurant. There is a large bar so if you’re here to drink and talk or dance then you’ll definitely have a place to be.I’d definitely return.
Well, that was quite the disappointment. Service was inexistant outside. Service inside barely talked or helped. Food? Overpriced and just ok. We ordered the fajitas, for $22 we imagined they were amazing (since they cost $8 more than any other place in town). Well, let me tell you that it tasted like it was just out of a Walmart pre prepared fajita chicken. Veggies were tasteless and over cooked. Won’t recommend or go back. What a waste of time and calories.
I think I found my new favorite spot! The server was so friendly and very attentive and thorough with our orders , we were in a group of seven for my goddaughter’s birthday. The music was nice and the food excellent, especially the guacamole and chips, definitely get the margarita tower it was not skimpy on the liquor.LOVED IT!
One of the best Mexican places Ive been so far💛 classic margarita is soooo good! Ive also tried grilled pineapple salad with shrimps, which was soo good. My boyfriend is crazy about burritos. And no doubts nachos con guacamole are just perfect 💛Strongly recommend it.P. S. Its better to make a reservation as its always full.
This was part of a Birthday celebration. Unfortunately we had eaten so we only got an appetizer and drinks. I must say the drinks had a punch and were delicious. The chips and spicy guac were to die for and fresh. Im sad we didnt get to eat an entrée. We chose to stay outside,, it was a nice night.. Although the seating was close it is has shields between the tables so you arw completely safe!! Definitely will be going back for the full experience.
I came for the Tuesday trivia night. Had the medium spice chips and guac. Not the best guac to me, but my friend really enjoyed it. I could have gone for full spice. The chips were good w/o guac, too. Had the new cocktail, Oaxaca in the Fall. Really great apple and citrus flavors. Perfect for the season. Almost wish there was a warm version of it like a toddy. And the trivia itself was really fast-moving since you do it from your phone. Really efficient, adequately challenging, though the music category definitely leaned to young, indie bands Ive never heard of or listened to. Wish there had been a bit more of a mix, but the host doesnt make the questions, so not his fault. Seems like a fun place in general. Saw a poster for a burrito-eating contest I wish I was going to be in town for:)
We were interviewing a candidate over lunch at this place and were seated on the outside area where it is always packed on a summer Friday. Service is usually slow at most places and Mad Dog was no exception.I ordered the Mad Dog Salad with Chicken ($13) and my colleague ordered the Grilled Shrimp Tostada ($19). The salad is okay and the grilled chicken was really dry, so did not really enjoy that much.Service was not that great. I was missing cutlery and it took a long time to get one, even when I asked for it.
So I have come to love this restaurant. It has come to be our go to place! Every celebration, we go to Mad Dogs. Tonight we tried to go and was told there was a full house and that there would be a 40 to 45 minute wait. Okay, we did not mind the wait! We took a walk and came back after about 38 minutes which is when we were told that, there was still no available table however people were starting to leave. At this time or any other time were we told that people had reservations and that the next available table would go to one of those people. A table became available and two people that walked in were offered the table, though we were there waiting and 45 minutes had already passed. After asking about it is when we were informed that now people had reservations! At that point we left to go elsewhere. Over about an hour and a half later we walked by to notice empty tables yet, we never received a phone call. Though they took down my friends name and phone number. She wants to try the restaurant because she has never been there before however, we will never go again with the host that was there tonight.
This place is amazing! When my friends and I walked in and saw the margarita tower, we knew we had to have one. The margarita was great, the waitress said the margarita mix is made in house with fresh squeezed limes. We also ordered chips, queso dip, guacamole, salsa and brisket tacos, everything was good. They have a lot of TVs so you could watch sports. I would definetly recommend stopping by : )
Ok I took off 2 stars:1 because the food was all served lukewarm. Even the queso. Queso needs a little extra flavor and the chips were served cold.2 Happy hour is only available at the bar and of coursen the bar was packed. We were told by the hottest that we couldnt get a drink there and then get a table. Although while eating we observed at least one group do just that. The food tasted good. No other complaints.
This place have a great margaritas and we order chicken wings with teriyaki salsa omg was delicious 😋 we also order some quesadillas and cheese it was yummy we love this place . Is very good, very clean, the people are very nice and friendly the service is excellent. Thanks so much
Extremely disappointed. The guacamole was ok but lacked in flavor. It needed more acid and some garlic. The chips were too thick for my liking. The guajillo sauce (usually my favorite thing at a Mexican restaurant) was not good at all. The black beans tasted like they were straight out of a can. Finally, the server took 30 minutes to acknowledge us after we had finished our meal. There are way too may places around to fool with this one.
We came for drinks, it was hot and the air flow was limited outside. It would definitely be better to go on a summer night when humidity is low. The service was kind of a struggle but it was pretty busy and it’s a drinking bar- the beer is cold and if you have good company what more could you ask for? Also the bathrooms down stairs are a WAY safer bet then the ones upstairs.
Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday night with a few friends at around 6, and the place wasnt too packed. At the time, I was on a no-carb diet, but there werent really any no-carb items on the menu. I went with the burrito bowl, but told them no rice. They really took care of me because they gave me a lot of extra steak instead (no extra charge), and I left feeling stuffed. Plus, it was pretty good. Now that Im back on carbs (who was I kidding?), I wouldnt mind trying out some of their other menu items. The only thing that stinks is that they dont have any happy hour specials, so Mad Dog & Beans: if youre reading this, please get on that!
Such a blast here with my Boys Guacamole is a most App, since we were 6 Margarita tower was the way to go & fantastic. The Hot wings be advised on the hot side for those who dont usually eat spicy or have low tolerance they where Perfect to my liking. Last but least Great Service no complaints.
I went to this place numerous times. This time i have to say the staff is not profesional. When we ordered a 120 dollar margarita tower. The top lid was so close to the heater, the lid dripped in the drink even after I brought it up to the waiter as a safety concern. They REFILLED the tower instead of REPLACING it after the manager promised we will get a new one. One of my friend were BURNED after trying to take off the lid. Then they force us 20% gratitude. I was able to negotiated it down to 10%.
Loved this place!!!We were a group of 10 Ladies and as soon as we arrived they prepared tables and seated us within seconds.Loved the attention from our waitress.Loved the fast service of the kitchen.Loved the decoration!!But specially, I really really Loved the ambiance. We were seated right in the middle, on the second floor, surrounded by other tables and some other groups. Loved how festive it felt. They were playing awesome Latin music, we were celebrating a birthday and my farewell. We ordered many appetizers to share among the group. Everything was exquisite. The guacamole was my favorite over all the others. It was perfectly made, not salty but flavorful, not too spicy but it had something that felt spicy and tasteful at the same time. Guac was also acid enough for you to LOVE it.We had two or three Margarita Towers to share, they are very tricky. A mixture of sweet but really strong, so be careful. :pI am really really really looking forward to come back soon.
Good margaritas, food is decent. Staff could be nicer. Once it gets busy they tend to be less willing to help and quickly dismiss people. Sometimes takes forever for a drink. Double check your bill as Ive had unauthorized items put on my bills few times. It was better a couple of years ago.
Some of the worst service in Manhattan, I went to the restaurant waited for someone to take my order finally they came, I asked for water, 5 min pass...5 more... keep in mind that the temp is 90. I asked the hostess and she kindly gets it. The waitress finally arrives after having to beg for her attention. We order then she asks for my credit card something that is quite a surprise then I said no being weary of her especially in a city like NYC. She then asked for my ID, I of course said no once more never in my life have a I been asked for an ID or credit card when sitting at a restaurant. The waitress was incredibly rude and didn’t want to take our order which was also very expensive (over $200) as I was there with my family. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
We had a $90 lunch in this place. It wasnt worth that price for sure. The service was good and our waitress was very sweet. Their salsa was bland. No flavor and no spice. Their rice was dry and bland as well. I was charged for Iced Tea refills, because no free refills on soda. This is probably a good place to go get drinks and have some guac, but thats about it. If you love Mexican food, this place is probably not going to impress you.
Deserves 5/5. Amazing Mexican restaurant with a nice colorful Mexican ambience. The food tastes amazing. The “Grilled Mexican corn” is finger licking good. The Fajitas was sizzling hot and the Tacos were nice too. However what kept us there glued for 2 hours were the amazing Margaritas. Would definitely visit again in my next trip.
Bar is a good time, but definitely crowded on holidays and weekends. I ordered a steak quesadilla and feel it was very unauthentic. It looked like cheap food all the way around and wasn’t cooked very well. I could have done better with my microwave and leftover steak. Better off just getting drinks.
Arrived during a busy time and were offered seats outside. Many ppl were walking by without masks. Asked the waiter if we could move to a covered area. He agreed and we sat down. It was 2 of us and the table was big. 2 tables over was a young lady sitting alone at a similar table. Even though 2 others arrived, we were asked to move because a bigger party was arriving. Being asked to move when a bigger party never arrived and 3 ppl were sat afterwards was a disappointing experience. The food wasnt worth the trouble. Never visiting again. Be aware...
Good Margaritas! Friday night a bit busy so they told us that if we were not going to order food , we couldnt have a table. 👎 Thats why I gave them 4 starts. We ended by the bar ordering drinks and food . Guacamole with tortillas chips , great!!👍Nachos were excellent!!! 👌
Classic Mexican spot in Financial District which is great for lunch, happy hour and dinner. You can have your guacamole spiced to your liking. And I cant say enough about how delicious and fun to share their fajitas will be! You might find the prices a tiny bit steep for lunch, but I cant complain about the food because it is tasty.
Good food and decent drinks at reasonable prices. Its a bit on the kitschy side, and at its worst a little too packed with loud Wall Street types. Much of stone street has a tourist feel, to be fair. A good option in the warmer months when you can eat outside under historic facades. Do try the flan.
First time dining there and it was awesome. Every time I try to dine there, its always crowded so finally had a chance on Sunday. I had the Mexican Street Corn and Chicken Quesadilla with Rice and Refried Beans. After eating their food, I would never go anywhere else for Mexican food. Food is served quick and the staff are extremely nice. Thank you for a great experience Mad Dog & Beans!
It wasnt what I expected. The chips and salsa where good but the soup was just the liquid and a piece of avocado, barely any content...To reply on the comment below: I didnt speak to the manager because it wasnt a problem with the service (it was excellent), it was about the food and how it didnt meet my expectations. I appreciate you caring about your customers feedback, I hope it helps.
Location: 👍Atmosphere: 👍Staff: 👍Food: 👎 (could be better)The staff was very friendly and attentive during our entire visit. The decor seems like a mix between rustic, traditional Mexican, Old Western, and trendy. Fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food wasnt very memorable. I wouldnt go as far as saying it was bad because it honestly was not. However, if I am craving Mexican food, this may not be my first, second, third, fourth, or even fifth option. If in the area, I would still give this place a try.
I went there to celebrate my birthday and what a gem of a place. The chips and guacamole, nachos, and the coconut mojito were excellent! And to top it off I had an excellent server, Michelle, who surprised us with a birthday cake. She was awesome, loved the place and Ill definitely be back!
I’m a young kid and i usually love going here with my friends and i get that the pandemic is terrible for all restaurants and it’s hard to accommodate but we waited for way too long for a table, around 2 and a half hours. Once I gave the hostess a measly $20 we sat in 5 minutes. we were kicked out of our table in a little under 2 hours when i know for a fact that wasn’t the case with other tables. I’ve never been told by a waitress “you guys have to go” maybe it’s just because we were young and they didn’t think we would run up the bill? idk i tried to talk to the manager and he was more than rude when i was trying to be as nice as possible.
Had a fantastic dinner at the Stone Street Maddog & Bean. The service was excellent and the food arrived hot and timely. We had chips and salsa and coconut shrimp for apps. I had the steak enchiladas and my husband had the pulled pork burrito bowl. The cactus pear margarita was so delicious we can’t wait to go back.
Got in at a little before 5 and seated right away. Menu looked good, hostess was good. Asked the waitress for a minute to order drinks and a meal, she came back 27 minutes later at 5:27. We were the only people on the second floor when we got in and almost every table had their food by time we were asked to order. Came here for my birthday dinner with a friend who recommended it. Definitely the worst service I have ever got at a Mexican Restaurant. The wait staff was standing by the second floor bar area just talking, for over 25 minutes! This ruined my birthday plans. I would recommend the staff learn to not talk for 25 minutes straight while people are just waiting on waters, drinks, appetizers and food. Couldve spent a lot of money here on maragaritas and food- instead we walked to the Pizza Bar across the street and ordered and had food within 15 minutes. Not the Mexican I wanted for my business but mad dog clearly didnt want our business on my birthday.
My son Jason Rupp placed third in the monster burrito eating contest on the Day of the Dead celebration. I entered also. Fun events like this make it a special place. Cool atmosphere. Happy hour is good. Lots of amazing food and drinks. I loved the margarita!!! Try it. Nice staff. In financial district. Loved it. Hope to come back. Great neighborhood.
I never leave a review but I feel like I had to here. We went to the mad dog in the business district of Manhattan during our vacation recently and when we got there the waitress asked if we wanted chips and salsa or guacamole without telling us prices. I realized on the menu it costed money and when she gave it to us I asked if she could take it back as we didnt eat any of it. She said she couldnt because she already rang it up? What? We get the food and it was nice very well made then she gave us the check and the guacamole was 13 dollars! She couldve told us that it was that much before she asked right when we sat down.
The grilled pineapple avocado salad was pretty darn good, the service was good, everything was pointing toward five stars but there was no AC or fan and it was 90 degrees and humid outside. The restaurant wasnt unbearable and stayed pretty cool but they should at least install some ceiling fans. Otherwise, Id totally suggest it!
Visited the Wall Street location and honestly one of the worst experiences we had in NYC. The waiter basically ignored our table the entire night. One of our friends asked for no cheese (allergy) about 4 times and her food showed up with cheese. She had to return it, and by the time she got her food we were finished eating. We also found out after ordering that shrimp was out of stock for fajita/burrito. We asked if we could just have the shrimp from the tacos that was in stock, they said no as it was “larger” and more expensive. Our waiter didn’t fill our waters one time, and even after we asked for a discount on the cheese food that had to be returned, they refused. On top of all this, we were forced to tip 20% even for a small party of 4 people. It’s surprising the waiters are tipped so well, when clearly they do not care about the customers. The food/drinks were decent but our experience was ruined by the service.
Waitress give us the check with out asking if we were ready to leave on top of that she only comes to the table 2 times in one hour and never even took the dame menus back like really. The tables are really small so you cant fit your food and drinks on it. Other then that the place was not too bad
Good Mexican food with ambiance and music to match. Menu covers the gamut. Service is quick even during busy hours and food is tasty and quality is consistent visit or visit. Good vegetarian options as well. Two floors and outdoor seating can a accommodate large parties.
If you dont drink alcoholic beverages, you dont go there to eat, they treat you very badly I went to the mid-town location with 3 friends and none of us drank alcohol, since we arrived the woman was forcing us to order alcoholic beverages and didnt let us read the menu, we told her to give us a few minutes and she appeared at our table about 4 times in less than 5 minutes, we ended up ordering an entry and then the woman appears in less than 2 minutes asking us to order the food, so we did order, but in a few minutes they brought us the entrance and the food, all together. A men with a dad actitud brought the food and we had to put some food in our seat because he literally threw everything in one of the corners of the table without accommodating anything on the table, and addition to it they sent us the wrong orders, and they got mad when we ask fix their mistake, not ours!!...And not enough, they turned on the noisy and strong air conditioning in the back that we were sitting, finishing eating cold food, come on!!!Outside was really cold and I made the reservation there in order to have a nice Mexican food and warm place to eat. The “food is not free” it is expletive though and was not a rush hours to push people to go even though that is not correct!!They won, because we couldn’t stay setting there eating in a cold food and cold place.Giving you 1 start because I needed to write the review. How RUDE is to treat people like that.I never had that embarrassing moment in any restaurant in Manhattan, I felt so bad with my friends because two of them were visiting the city for the first time. I’m an influence in social media and will keep spreading the voice that people never go to this place.
My work comes here sometimes. I like their Guacamole, the spicy one is very good, always fresh and filling. Weve tried skirt steak, Burritos, theyre all pretty good. Note this is American Mexican food, if youre looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not the place, otherwise, its pretty good.Therere 2 floors, also in summer, the back terrace is open, its nice to sit outside. At lunch time, its easily get packed outside.
Ill get straight to the point. I THOUGHT this place would be great! I was there to celebrate a friends birthday. I ordered 3 margaritas which totaled a whopping $83!?!?!Ladies & gentlemen these were not Texas size drinks, they did not come with a 6ft handsome model to keep one company, sparklers, a cake... nothing ...just 3 margaritas and a bill that =$83!? New York City is expensive enough, we shouldnt be robbed at restaurants too. Never will they see my gorgeous face again. 👎🏽Oh yeah, food was mediocre. No taste. One star is for their guacamole and location.
Extremely loud! My friend and I picked this place because of the convenient location. Hard to talk...even harder to hear. I asked for a Mexican hamburger and our server advised me that it would take 15-20 minutes to make. Are you kidding? This is lunch hour not happy hour where you have the luxury of hanging out. Changed the order to quesadillas and the table next to ours ordered hamburgers and got them almost at the same time as we received our order. Food was ok but no plans to return
Service was terrible from the beginning. Hostess greeted her friend and had a conversation while we stood there waiting to be acknowledged. The other hostess said hi very casually and then looked away. The food is like an overpriced Chili’s if you’ve ever been to one. Honestly think Chili’s may taste better. If it were cheaper and the service was better maybe it would be worth the time and money buuuuttt it isn’t. It was a group of six of us and the only thing that tasted really good was the melted cheeses dish which is pretty difficult to mess up. Nothing else was memorable.
I have really mixed feelings about this location. I stopped in on a Tuesday night with some friends for dinner and drinks. The restaurant was really pretty empty so we were seated immediately and the waitress came right over to get us started with drinks and apps. She was very friendly and attentive to us the entire night. The guac was tasty. Our main entrees were alright, but not as great as I would have hoped for a Mexican place. My chicken quesadilla was soggy and falling apart. My friends enchilada was not very warm.I had 3 main issues with our experience here;1. At around 8 PM the bartender or manager or someone cranked the music from what was a reasonable and pleasant level to a deafening level that made conversation with the person right next to you hard. It was not very crowded that night, and the people at the table next to us even commented how loud it got all of a sudden2. The bus boys are rather aggressive with clearing the table. We werent even halfway down with our guac and chips when they came by to take it away. Same with our entrees, we were visibly mid-meal and they kept asking if they could clear it away. Again, it was not very busy that night so this was confusing to us why they would try to rush us out.3. We wanted to place a take out order to bring home to roommates. The waitress insisted we walk up to the bar and place it with the bartender because the management gets angry if waitresses place take out orders - very odd.
I work near by Mad Dog & Beans and love coming down to stone street after work for the best margaritas in NYC! They have ten different flavors, its always hard to choose, theyre all great. Love the enchiladas, they are my go-to. Friendly staff and quick service. Best restaurant on Stone Street!
High quality Mexican food in the financial district. Initially, I hesitated on visiting this place because its name seemed kind of tacky, but Im glad I did - their food is delicious. Its some of the best Mexican food in Manhattan and serves generous portions.Their guacamole is required. They give you a choice of spiciness, but honestly, even their spicy is barely noticeable. The rest of their menu is stellar. Ive had the quesadillas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, and their steak and shrimp entrees. I recommend all of them. Cocktails are tasty but not that strong. The only disappointment is the rice and beans; theyre OK but more of a filler than anything else. Service is good, but it can sometimes be a bit of a wait outside. The only downside is their outside space. Its smaller than the others on Stone Street, and it is under a ugly orange canopy that definitely ruins the mood on a sunny day. If youre a party of two, you can try grabbing the tables on the sidewalk that dont have a canopy - those are quite nice.
After waiting for almost 3 hours, we were able to get in. We ordered two towers for Margaritas- Passion Fruit and Mango. Both of them were nice. I would highly recommend their queso and guac. They were really good.I would definitely consider coming back, especially to sit outside during the summer.
It seems like the more times I go to Mad Dog, the more I like it. Its a relatively low key lunch and happy hour spot for the business crowd, but it can be a lot of fun for the evenings as well. Its a great place to go if you want to avoid a large crowd but still have a lot of fun, and the price is also very reasonable. Some food items are better than others, but nothing is below average. If you do go, the guac is a must!
Great guacamole in the financial district! the home made traditional guacamole is ideal to share with a friend, the chip are also good. The cheese quesadilla was a bit disappointing...only contained cheese. But the ambiance is great you can seat outdoors, at the bar or in the upstairs more business related area. The portions are big and the service is friendly and fast.
They made us sit upstairs and asked us to leave the place by 9:30pm(closing time)on a Saturday night. Change your business timing to 9:30pm. Don’t deceive people with wrong timings on the internet. They didn’t even arrange for a table downstairs when asked for, which is open till 1:00 am.Food, drinks and the service was good.
It was nice to sit outside in this historic district, but the food here was mediocre and the service was terrible. Our original server left and never told us while the new server never said she was until we asked. We were checked on once and had to ask for refills, the check, etc. We sat for 20 minutes waiting for the bill. It turns out they automatically included 18% tip to our party of 6 so we understood then why the quality of service didnt matter. Well choose a different restaurant nearby next time.
Sitting on the cobblestones street, kinda neat. The table wobbling the whole time, not so much. The guacamole was great! And truthfully, I dont often guac, mainly b/c most places, its awful, looks terrible and tastes worse. Here? Great stuff. Little pricey but given the location, understandable. Service was good, and our entrees were tasty.
Dont bring a large group of people for lunch. We arrived at 12 with a reservation and just about the first group of people for lunch. We didnt get our lunch until after 1. They even forgot about one of our guests and what he ordered. The quesadilla was certainly not worth the price.
Seemed like a great place but the Margarita was meh and the chips and salsa were not good. The salsa was literally tomatoes, onion and cilantro. Albeit it was fresh but there was no salt, no lime and no garlic. It was flavorless. The bartender was nice though. That was about it.
The fact that I can eat amazing Mexican food outdoors with my small pup is 5 star worthy alone. Add in their delicious House margaritas and the weekend is off to a fabulous start. The food is consistently good and vibe is fun. Year round staple, hands down my fave Mexican go to restaurant.
Food was great but service was poor. I was with my family when we ate lunch on July 1st here. The waitress asked for my credit card, I said we were paying in cash but she insisted to take the card. When I asked why she needed to keep the credit card she responded with are you from here?? Is this your first time eating in this area?? we normally do this here. It was very aggressive. She was abrupt and rude. I said Ive never experienced having my card taken- literally taking and keeping it until we were done eating. She took it right after we ordered which is weird. Its not even after we eat and about to pay. We paid cash and we waited about 5mins coz we had to remind her to give back our card.
Used to eat here regularly when I lived nearby. Stopped in to get takeout on a Sunday around 4:00. It was not very crowded except a few tables and people at the bar watching football. I made my order with a nice bartender who said it would be ready in 10 mins (guacamole and a cheese quesadilla). Came back around 10 mins later with my 17 month old who the food was for. Literally stood at the bar waiting with her and let her sit/stand on a chair and then rudely was told by the manager that we werent allowed to stand at the bar and to go sit at a table somewhere else.Honestly, if it were crowded or if the baby was being annoying or crying I could understand but literally we were standing there. I thought I was really rude and needless to say they will not be getting any more $ from me anytime soon.
This restaurant is my number one site. Of all restaurants I know I favor it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this restaurant. everytime I want to go to a proper supper, this restaurant comes immediately to my head. extremely good and food and a rich cuisine.professional staff, and nice spirit. And very important, the tariff is good. I tell about this place with no hesitation.
Expensive place, in the winter this place is crowded. In the SUMMER this placed is MOBBED with the outdoor seating. Stone street is incredible in the summer. Highly recommend this place for the atmosphere. Drinks are decent, appetizers are small and expensive but the place is popular so something must be right..5 stars.
I just called this place, I work on water street close by, and weve come there before for work happy hour.I called at 1125am to order and was told to use grub hub. We couldnt get grub hub working so I called back at 1128am and simply explained Im looking to spend between 200-250 dollars for 10 people to eat a delicious Mexican spread. I was told the kitchen was closed until 1130am, 2 minutes away, and Id have to call back. I questioned this, by repeating so you want me to call back in 2 minutes? She said yes.For a patron looking to spend 250 dollars on an order that could have been easily taken for me, I was shocked that I had to call back in 2 minutes.I did not call back, and we took out business elsewhere.
Tourist trap. Very loud, too expensive, not great quality food. We had a party of 7 for lunch and our bill had an automatic 25% gratuity added. If our server had been decent, I wouldnt have minded the auto tip, but he was slow and inattentive, definitely not worth the percentage. I recommend non-touristy restaurants away from Stone Street.
The guac and chips were excellent. I had one of the lunch plates but wasnt too impressed. It was pretty standard Mexican. If it wasnt a working lunch, I would have tried the Margaritas, as they looked pretty awesome. The prices were a little high, but given the location, Im not too surprised, and the spot itself was very wild west looking.
This place is shady. Ive gotten whiskey there and it never tastes what it should taste like. My Makers Mark neat was cloudy in color. It came from a bottle that had the label mostly peeled off.So I am guessing theyre substituting garbage into expensive bottles, and reusing them for months, witness the peeled off label off the Makers bottle thats usually on there pretty strong.Unless youre getting bottled beer, or maybe their margaritas, dont order anything else, and better yet, go somewhere else. Dont support fraud.> nothing you insinuate in this review is accurateI can assure you that what I said is 100% accurate and I dont appreciate being called a liar.
I went with 2 coworkers after work for margaritas. The vibe/music was nice, the bouncer was nice, the bartender was attentive and the drinks were good. The place was packed, so when we saw a table open up we sat down because we intended on getting food and more drinks....We were approached by the rudest, snottiest waitress, who said we needed to get up, we cant just go sitting wherever we felt like it and she had a waitlist. We moved away from the table and stood by the bar with pitcher in hand. She then proceeded to literally push me to get past me. Unreal. That soured what would have been a nice time. We finished our pitcher and went to a different place close by to drink and eat. There was no sign anywhere that said there was a waitlist and no indication that the tables werent open. Had we known the rules we would have signed in to get a table. The place was packed and chaotic. There was no need for her to have such a terrible attitude. If she doesnt like chaos or interacting with people, im sure there are other jobs more suitable for her. Fortunately there is an abundance of other establishments nearby where patrons get treated a lot better. I dont intend on going back and my colleagues have been made aware of the service here.
Mad Dog is EXTREMELY DISCRIMINATE in regards to their policies & to whom they extend certain courtesies to. My coworkers and I frequent the Pearl St. location on a REGULAR basis. Whenever we’re there, we ALWAYS order a Margarita pitcher and sit OUTSIDE. This afternoon around 5:30pm -the usual time we are there- request our pitcher and let the hostess know we would like to be seated outside. She then proceeds to tell us that it’s MANDATORY to that a meal is required for outside, in which we then ask to speak to the manager. When the manager arrives he RUDELY and in a condescending tone states that in order to order a pitcher we have to be seated at the BAR. We then go on to explain that we come regularly, almost weekly in fact, and we’ve never been told that it was in fact policy. He then stated that he has been there for over two years and has absolutely NO recollection of us ever being customers. We then choose to go inside to sit at the bar, however we are met by security who, by the Manager’s insistence, states that we are NO LONGER ALLOWED at this establishment. Just like that. There was no altercation, no profane language used by ANY of us, so the ‘ban’ is extremely unjust. In addition to this, while we are standing outside (writing this review) there were PLENTY of other patrons, Caucasian patrons at that, seated outside with absolutely NO FOOD! (My coworkers and I are black and Hispanic minorities by the way). The way we were treated was totally UNACCEPTABLE and UNJUST! We also work in the food and service industry (where the customer is ALWAYS right) and have NEVER made any of our customers feel this way. I’m DISGUSTED at the lack of professionalism displayed, how we were TREATED & something needs to be done about that Manager !

2022-02-21The aesthetic is very nice. The food is pretty good. Portions were pretty good too. The salsa was fresh and really flavorful. Served with some delicious warm chips. Our service was a bit slow and it was loud so not the best place for deep conversations. My margarita was well made. Definitely a good place for late night bar and Mexican.

2022-06-13Met up with my sister here during my lunch break. I was walking by the restaurant and heard the music pumping so it seem pretty appealing to me. The guacamole was fresh and a great size. The steak taco was okay. I didn’t like the red and green salsa that came with it. The rice and beans were not my favorite. I barely touched it. My sister liked her shrimp taco. The food came out quickly. Good service.

2021-12-17I’ll have to admit, I was sketchy to try Mexican food in NYC! We were visiting from Texas and we love our Tex-Mex. We had been traveling all day and we were all starving and spotted this place and decided to just go do it. It was between lunch and dinner and we needed food and drinks asap. We dined at the cute outdoor setups they had that were enclosed to keep you warm. We had pomegranate margaritas and red sangria. All good drinks that really hit the spot!! We shared guacamole (could use some salt), steak quesadillas, and this gigantic burrito. Everything was very good. The staff was very friendly and dealt with us wanting our pictures taken several times. Glad we stopped here!

2022-07-06Our waiter (long haired blond male) was tremendously slow. Not sure what was going on, but he surely paid more attention to the other tables than to us. We had to ask for him to come to our table twice. A group that came in after us received their appetizer and meal by the time we ordered. The manager did stop and ask if wed gotten our food yet, I suppose she saw us waiting for an extended period of time. My sister loved the fresh salsa.

2022-07-12Visited mad dog on a Friday night, so much fun here ! The frozen margaritas were delicious. I was pretty tipsy after 3 😳 the food was amazing! I ordered the chicken flautas and my bf had the chicken chimichanga. We like his food better. The flautas had potato in it and I wasnt a big fan of the texture. The guac was freaking amazing and so were the chips. So flavorful and fresh. The whole vibe was dope, the music was mostly reggaeton and other Spanish genre. I was happy and feeling the party vibe. The whole experience was great. Will go back.

2021-11-17Randomly chose this place for a bite to eat and I must say that the food was delicious. I had the chips and salsa and the steak tacos. Really didnt care for the beans and rice however. A few of the people who were with me said the wings were good. Ive also tried the quesadillas, which were good as well. The margaritas were alright, not bad though. I did ended up having to switch to another flavor. I started with a frozen pomegranate one, which tasted watery. I switched to strawberry which wasnt all that great, but a little better. I would definitely visit again when Im in town.

2021-10-24I ordered the steak quesedilla and it was perfect! Flavorful, cheesy, and crispy. It came with sour cream and fresh salsa. The ambience is nice and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant is clean and plays upbeat Mexican music. Wish we could also dance. 😁
