Super cute cafe offering a variety of coffee drinks and non-coffee drinks. I’ve had the turmeric latte twice and the salep once and all were delicious. They offer sandwiches, as well as pastries from Balthazar. Very friendly too. It’s become one of my favorite cafes on the UES.
Please note this establishment is in NO way related to the Bonté family or their patisserie on the UES.Response to the owner:Please note that I have been to your establishment more than once after receiving numerous inquiries about the name and I stand by my review, though I did enjoy the coffee. And yes, I am aware of its meaning, though I would point out that it is a noun, not an adjective.Of course, this is America and you are free to do as you please and in the spirit of my name and the Madame Bonté (my mother who was a fixture on the UES for 25 years) who undoubtedly inspired the name of your establishment, I wish you nothing but success.
Very confused by the good reviews lol. But I guess everyone’s experience is different. Employees were not welcoming and I seemed to be taking away from their phone time. The ice coffee was not good, tasted super watered down. Kinda upset I passed several cafes to try this spot.
Great coffee, delicious food with fresh ingredients, beautiful decor. However, downstairs is screen free, which significantly impairs medical board studying and research for me! In understand the atmosphere that they are trying to create but not realistic for my study spot needs. The search for reliable coffee sport continues.
The best in the area. They sometimes sell out of the Balthazar fresh pastries fairly early, so get there before 11.My favorite is the lox on croissant sandwich and a yummy oat milk cappuccino. The avocado toast was very good too, good proportions!Delightful.Service is excellent and space is cozy and cute. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ !
Welcome to the neighborhood, this is one of the most well thought out cafes i know and full of interesting things to try. Coffee is solid and then there is a great case of balthazar goods, protein bites, chocolates, kombucha, recess seltzer...all that and its a beautiful place to hang out
This is not just a go-to coffee shop but a coffee shop that clearly takes great care in having amazing-quality coffee, a great La Marzocco machine and amazing pastries. Forget going to a big chain (not that you ever should)... but ultimately this is where you find the good stuff.
I felt like their hygiene practices werent great... the main person making the coffee pets dogs and lets dogs lick her hands and then continues to make coffee without washing hands etc. Maybe OK for dog lovers but for others, not so great. Also standoffish and somewhat rude staff... unless you have a dog.
The pastry and coffees are good. The seating is nice and the employees are nice. Just don’t order food from them. I got a sandwich made on what looks like American sliced bread and I was very disappointed. The sandwich was really sloppy with the thickest slices of cheese I have ever seen on the sandwich. Made me really side to see this when I got home. Now I know.
I want to really like this place but I got a smallLavender latte with almond milk and it was around $7.50. This drink isn’t unique to this coffee shop but the the high price is. Also, even though I was drinking this very pricey drink inside they gave it to me in a paper cup. That really takes away from the experience.
I got a rose latte from here. Really unique and tasty. Customer service was great. Due to the high volume of customers, they may take a little to get to your order but its definitely worth it. Prices are Im not going to lie, pricey, but a nice once in awhile treat :) they also serve baked goods and sandwiches.
Love their americano’s! I’ve tried two of their sandwiches after waiting 15-20 minutes to prepare and I couldn’t justify the actual sandwich’s. It was good and in a bind I’d probably grab one if I needed a quick bite and didn’t want to go to two different places to satisfy my coffee desire too.
I was expecting your traditional hostess like any other restaurant but it was more of like a Panera bread but for Italian food. I totally enjoyed that since I dined in on my own. The shrimp scampi was a little on the lemony side but full of flavor. I checked in for the garlic knots which had a high intensity flavor for both pesto and garlic which I loved! They were also light and fluffy. The calamari fries were a perfect pairing to my pineapple hazy ipa. Everything was delicious.
My best friends and I decided to come here on a week day for dinner. The place itself was a bit hard to find - since they have sus staircases that lead up to the place - but the place itself was very clean and pretty big. The place was pretty empty when we arrived - but it was a Thursday at 6 pm (they do have reservations so I would definitely recommend making a reservation just in case they get busy).
Great addition to the neighborhood! Plenty of cafe seating indoor and outdoor. Top quality coffee and a lovely French inspired food menu (fresh and toasty baguettes, ham, cheese, jam, lots of pastries) and a little swag shop. Right outside Q train entrance. Would absolutely recommend.
This is why you go to a local coffee spot. Went there to get coffee for two. They told me very clearly which coffee was which so there was no confusion. They even changed up my order at the last second upon request. If you’re tired of runs to Dunkin’, this is the spot in UES. Love when baristas are attentive and actually care.
This is a super nice cozy small coffee shop with tables in the street and indoors, coffee is good, fresh pot and the chia and cashew balls which are quite pricy 2 for $4.50 I must say is a must have. 4 of those and a nice coffee with oat milk is my Sat treat before my shift next door.
What a cute place to get your cup of tea, coffee or something new! The service was so friendly and I tried the beetroot latte which was amazing. I love trying new things and that’s definitely one to go for. The best part about the drinks is that there isn’t sugar pre-added, which is hard to find for a matcha latte. They also have options for milk if you like that!
A neighborhood gem! And, more than that, an nyc favorite! The owners are so warm and welcoming . You can tell they’ve poured their heart into this place (and their coffee!). The baristas are always professional and consistent. I’ve already started a Madame Bonté latte budget - yikes. So many wonderful things to say about this place!
It is rare that I submit reviews, but Madam Bonte is a really special place that deserves all the praise! The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Everything Ive ordered (from danishes to the salmon tartine to cappuccinos and salep) has been amazing. It is very apparent that they have sought out quality products in terms of their coffee, pastries and sandwiches and are dedicated to providing customers with a happy, authentic and unique experience. I love that they continue to curate their selection - bringing in new products from time to time! Never change!
I got off the train on 96th and 2nd Ave and was in the mood for something sweet. I had heard about his place and it had really great reviews so was excited to try it. I took the train from World Trade Center and had gotten a coffee before taking the train up here so I had a cup of coffee that I had been sipping on. When I came into the coffee shop I opted to buy a scone and also bought oatmeal to have later tonight. I didn’t get a coffee since I had already been sipping on one during my train ride. I had ordered an uber to take me home as it started to drizzle and sat on one of the chairs outside since the uber gave me a 9 minute wait.A gentleman approached me rudely and proceeded to scold me as I was eating the scone (which was very good by the way) and said “you know you’re not supposed to have outside drinks, this is a place of coffee, that’s what we do so you shouldn’t do that.” I explained that I had come off the train and told him my cup was practically empty and that I had purchased a scone and oatmeal. He made me feel so bad that I gathered my stuff up quickly and left promptly.I try to support and respect small businesses especially during this time. It was not my intent to disrespect in any way. There is a better way to approach customers though and his scolding and way to speak to me was not acceptable. Although the scone was very good, after this interaction I will not be back. I’ll stick to my staple Black Star Bakery. Best of luck.

2020-07-07Excellent spot for coffee! It’s been a gradual reopening for most spots in the upper east side and harlem with not many places having grand openings but this place deserves some attention. Great coffee, friendly staff, and lots of available outdoor seating to hang out or read a book.

2022-07-24Small cafe in the upper east side with a cute atmosphere and vibe! I got an iced chai latte and my friend got the lavender London fog! We both loved the chai and the London fog was good too! Typical NYC coffee prices.

2021-10-05I absolutely love this local cafe! The drinks they serve are fantastic. Youll find a more traditional espresso machine here than youd see at a Starbucks/Dunkin, which creates an excellent espresso! They have a loyalty program, which is nice if you live nearby. They used to play their music WAy-TO-LOUD!I used to avoid even doing a to-go order... it was just too overwhelming. Recently, theyve transitioned to a softer jazz, and the volume is much more subtle and inviting.I highly recommend!

2021-08-02This is one of my new go-to coffee shops for studying and/or hanging out. I love love love their almond croissants, they have decent prices, working outlets, comfy seating, and good lighting. The music was a little loud last time I took my roommates there for group study, but the staff is pretty nice so I will continue suggesting this place to friends and fam!

2021-10-30I used to come here when it was Jax. Loved coming here to do work. Have been coming to the spot since it switched to Madame Bonte. Very cute cafe! Only thing that I would suggest would be to allow screen usage. I was here on a Saturday afternoon, which is usually a busy time for NYC coffee shops but the downstairs was empty as you can see from the photos. I believe you’re missing a lot of potential customers who would come here if you allowed people to use their laptops. Perhaps designate a portion of downstairs for screen users.

2021-07-16Super cute coffee shop in the UES! They have a good selection of beverages and the seasonal are great! I saw the specials announced on the street and the IcedLavender Latte caught my eye… went in and try it and was delicious and different. The service is superb, really friendly and chatty (if this is something you like). The interior area is small but the outdoor seating is great. Have seen a lot of people having coffee and working from there during weekdays and I just love the vibe.Give it a try!

2021-05-18Cute and charming cafe in UES! They have a good range of beverages (hot and cold) and seasonal specials available as well. Although I only stopped by for a hot tea, I’m excited to go back to try more of their menu and pastry items! (I came in around noon and most of their pastries were already gone, so next time I’ll come earlier)Pros:-Wide selection of beverages-Non-dairy milk options!-Sandwiches available-Outdoor dining areaCons:-Small indoor dining space (but it’s cute!)-Pastries seem to be popular so come earlier in the day before they’re gone
