Malay in other cities:
A place to go eat if you want authentic Malaysian food at reasonable price. Only drawback, tables are too cramped. Highly recommend Char Kueh Teow with cockles, Malaysian satay (not Thai!), Pork with Yam (a rare dish) and Kangkung Belachan. Skip the Squid Sambal - 90% onions & tomato sause (not even sambal sauce) and the squid were just a few pieces.
NOT COMING BACK!!Went here and ordered beef & chicken rendang. Beef is tough & dry. Both beef and chicken dish are cold like it came out of the fridge. What’s more disappointing is the TIPPING POLICY of 15% minimum whether you are happy or not with the food and service.
I thought it was okay kind of disappointed with the curry noodles I got. The roti was pretty good. Place is a bit hard to find hole in the wall. The waiters were very friendly.Update: I started coming back more. guess it was just a bad day the other days I came back food was on point!
I been going to this place so many years. Every time when I go, I always notice the price change in the food I ordered. There is no proper menu with the price on it. They will make out the price before Covid and after Covid. Even yesterday I was there. I was shocked with the price increased for the same item I was order just 1 month ago. They should stick with the price on the menu. No comments about the taste.
The best Malaysian food in Flushing. , the Hainanese chicken with rice will fill you up , try their chicken or beef satays , cook to perfection without the burnt taste , very reasonable price , the only thing that’s the place is a little unkept , it gets crowded around lunch and dinner time .
Worse service ever!If you speak Chinese they look down on you. But if you speak English they will serve you first. I thought it would be better if I speak Chinese. I asked for my order and she said:” Not ready.” The next person came in and asked for her order the server asked her oh! What did you ordered? This is the second time it’s happened to me. I think they need to really work on their customer services.
As a chinese-malaysian myself, this is the one restaurant that can even stand at the starting line with the food i actually get back in malaysia. cheap, authentic, and the epitome of local, it’s definitely a place to visit if you’re looking to get a taste of malaysian food. it’s on the complete opposite spectrum of papa rich, which is just a nice modern restaurant to visit, but DEFINITELY off-tasting compared to the true malaysian taste.
Its been a while since Ive eaten here The taste of the food is not disappointing, but the selection may be pared down. I order yong tau foo mee fun. The selection of yong tau foo was skimpy though the size of each item was big. I was looking forward to stuff bitter gourd, tau pok and other vegetables. I got a huge tau foo, huge stuff red chili and a big chunk of eggplant that was stuff. Its like they dont have time to cut or buy smaller versions of the vegetables. My grandson loved the pei pa duck. The chow hor fun was reminiscent of what you get in Singapore or Malaysia. It was not a disappointing meal nor will you spend a fortune here.
Our family has been coming here since 1992 so it is like comfort food to me. Their nasi lemak, kwetiaw goreng, fried rices, curry soup, & Hainanese chicken over rice is our go-to while being very affordable -- many items are under $10! I hope they always stay open to enjoy for many more years!
The food, atmosphere, and service here embody a truly Malaysian cultural dining experience. The staff are very kind and friendly and willing to serve any individual dining preferences and/or requests. They use high-quality ingredients to make a wide range and excellent assortment of items on their menu. I would recommend this spot to anyone passing through the area.
The place its small and decorations its poor. But the food was awesome. Its one of those dont judge a book by its cover . The Hainan chicken was great. Not all places can make them good. The fish head rice noodles its a must . We also got the appetizer platter thing that has all fried food. That was good. The 肉骨茶 has enough flavor. Some places add too. Much water. Their flavor was just eight.
The food is good, especially the curry. The price is decent, at least around average at the area. However I am not going to this place anymore.Last time I was there I was having a take out. After a customer and I ordered there was a big COCKROACH just crawled down from the wall. Another seated customer was pointing at that thing, it crawled all the way up to the cashier until a waitress came and wrecked it with a menu. God blesses whoever use that menu next. The ROACH wasnt even dead after being hit by a hardback menu. It crawled for another 5 feet before it was hit again.Sorry if this review took away all your appetite, but I think you deserve to know before you walk into this place.
Very humble facade, but dont be deceived by appearance. This restaurant serves the most delicious and authentic Malaysian dishes Ive had since moving from Singapore to NYC 3 years ago. Albeit not every menu item is authentic, most of them are worth a try. Personal favorites are the roasted duck, Hainanese chicken rice and chow kuey teow.On a side note, the simple decorations & no-fuss service really remind me of coffee shops in Singapore. They get straight to the point with good food. No messing around with superficial deco. Order. Eat. Be happy. :D
At first glance appears like a sticky Chinese restaurant with the furniture and atmosphere, however the staff keep it clean, humble, and the best of it is the FOOD which is a very good price and freshly made. The chicken and curry is so good as well as the Hainan chicken plate everyone else mentions here. Would come again and again for good food!
Been quite a regular customer for many years, but tonight its a complete unexpected different taste. It does not have the taste from my usual regular visits. The flat noodles are clumped together and without the fiery wok taste. Usual floor waitress were different. I would not be returning as the standard of food dropped dramatically.
Authentic with a huge selection and very cheap. Total hole in the wall place! Ive been to Singapore and Malaysia before and their food is legit. They give you big portions here. I got the beef randang ($8) and we also got the chicken over rice ($5). You can feed two people here and have a lot of leftovers for just $30 out the door!
‼️I should have called 911 today and I will tell you why, Ive been to this store for 7 years. Its always a great place to grab some food. Ordered at 4:15 received at 5:25,theyve told me will deliver in half hr but in one, is totally fine because I have been a loyal customer, the delivery guy shown up with blood all over his face and screaming at me he wants more tips I refused, he start yelling and come towards to me with all those blood on his face ($36order he wants me pay $45)He screaming he is the boss which I dont know if thats true or not, I called the store theyve told me is a part time person.❌This store forever a NOOOO ! !!!dont order from them of you dont want yourself got killed❌‼️
If youre looking for some authentic Malaysian food in a minimalist establishment, try the Malay Restaurant! You may be turned off by the long, narrow, plain space as well as their simplistic dish ware and utensils, but dont be swayed by your first impressions. We were greeted by friendly staff and were seated by a table near the kitchen, then ordered away...
Never would I walk into this restaurant until one of my friends recommended to us. It turned out to be such a gem. This is an authentic Malaysian restaurant without much decor. What it offers though, is tons of great good and family vibe.I ordered the Malaysian style Curry Cheong Fun, which is a stir-fried curry flavor flat rice with toppings including firm tofu, fish cake wrapped in pepper and fried tofu skin. It is SO good and filling but it only costs $7. My husband ordered their Rangdang and it is very very good too. The sauce is excellent and the beef is tender. We also ordered a Haihan Chicken over rice and the dipping sauce is excellent. The chicken is flavorful too but I will watch out for the hair on the skin!I will definitely come back to try other Malaysian dishes.
So glad I found this place during a Saturday of eating & drinking my way through Flushing. Ordered the Hainanese chicken rice, duck, and roti canai...everything was excellent. The duck, in particular, was cooked perfectly and might be the best Ive had in NY. Was too full to order anything else, but Im looking forward to coming back to sample more of whats on their menu.
Weve eaten here since the 90s and the food is usually DELICIOUS. Lately, the roti canai (Indian pancake) has been inconsistent -- more hard than soft. Yesterday, it was delivered to our table cold and very hard -- not a single soft spot on the pancake. Diana, please get the kitchen to fix this problem.
I lived in Malaysia for about 7 yrs. I have been craving for some authentic Malaysian food. Quite disappointed in this restaurant. A very famous Malaysia delicacy named 马来风观 (stir fried water crest Malaysian style) is totally greasy and not authentic at all. The Indian bread is not home made, appeared to be one of those frozen one, and very small size for $3.75. The dipping sauce is ok. My husband ordered a tomyam soup. It was a big mistake. Its very sour, not sweet enough to compensate the sourness, does not have any herb at all. DO NOT order this even if u crave for tomyam soup. If a Malaysian restaurant does not make good tomyam soup, they will not make good curry fish head soup either. So for those folks who is craving for curry fish head soup, do not order this dish there, it will only damage ur hope for such a delicacy. I will not go back to this restaurant !!!
This restaurant exemplifies the term: dont judge a book by its covers. Located in a shady block in flushing, I was hesitant to try this place out. However the food here is so authentic and delicious. The service is also prompt. Definitely try the lasa noodles here - very authentic taste. I also recommend Hainese chicken its very soft.
Get the Hainanese chicken! AND THEY HAVE SKATE!!! Fried skate! Get that too. We also got this herbal soup that was surprisingly delish, with that bitter herbal taste -- perfect for a cold winter night. We walked into the restaurant and waited forever. They were pretty bad at seating people, since it was busy and they seemed to favor regulars and white people. But thats ok. I dont care as long as the foods good, and the food was good.
Is one of the best Malaysia food in New York, convenience location in flushing, theres parking around the block at the municipal parking. We have been going to for more than 25 years. We went back a few weeks ago, the service was very very slow, the staff were not helpful or courteous, the food is not taste like before too bad there are other Malaysia Restaurant in Flushing.
The service was alright... As it got more and more crowded during lunchtime, it became evident that the kitchen was running out of ingredients. Also, at the time there were only 2 waiters amidst a packed restaurant. However, the food was still amazing; The prices were fair and the portions were grand.
One of the hidden gems of Queens, nay ... New York City when it comes to Malaysian food. No fuss, hole in the wall restaurant with delicious and authentic dishes.Satay, BBQ skate, and Char Kuew Teoy are a must. If you are vegetarian, go for the Satay Tofu or opt for vegetable Char Kuew Teoy. For the Malaysians, Malay has the tastiest Yee Sang.
U are more likely 2 get stuck by lightning twice on the same day than U are 2 get a parking spot here . But if U are lucky enough 2 get 1 this place is a must try . Authentic Malaysian cuisine at its best. Well worth the 2 trains 3 buses & or cab ride from wherever U live...

2021-10-15First time coming after hearing good reviews from family and friends. There were two Malaysian restaurant on the same block and I wasnt sure if we were at the right one. We bumped into a food blogger in the front and she said this was the place to go. We ordered a good amount of food for lunch and everything was authentically delicious. We asked for the Malaysian ices, but they werent selling any when we dined in that day. Its very reasonably priced so you can go get some bubble tea or creamy ice cream all within a block of this restaurant. Even had some to take out to go. My wife and nephew ordered the same dish. It was cute how they labeled the takeout containers.

2022-04-29A hole in the wall place. Though small, the dishes are flavorful. The duck skin was crisp, skate cooked very well. Friendly service, inexpensive, a must try.

2022-05-31This hole in the wall restaurant is the go-to place for authentic, affordable Malaysian food.Their roti canai is amazing, we wish we ordered two! The curry is delicious and the pastry is deliciously flaky and crispy. We also got an order of beef satay to share. It came with a peanut dip and a side of some veggies. The meat and the dipping sauce were quite sweet but delicious. We also appreciated the side of veggies that came with the dish as it was a nice palrt cleaner. For our entree, we shared a half chicken order of the Hainanese chicken and chicken rice, which came with a spicy dipping sauce. The chicken is served cold, as is traditional for Hainanese chicken. The meat was very tender and flavorful and we really enjoyed the flavored rice as well.

2021-10-03Good cheap eats. Or cheaper than the general flushing that is getting more expensive nowadays. The food was a good twist from the typical spots i normally go to. Inside was pretty full the entire time we ate there.

2021-12-19I was here for transit. The hotel at the front desk suggested Malay. I went there and ordered their fried kuaiteo. It was very delicious. Definitely will come back when I visit New York next time!

2021-07-22Decent home style cooking, not as good as PappaRich but also so much cheaper. Nasi lemak for 7$? Sign me up! Asam laksa broth was very tasty. Rendang ayam gravy is a little gritty but taste is good.Beware of the bak kut teh though: They put ginseng in the broth, and its so bitter that I couldnt eat it.

2022-05-16Not Nonya, Not Malay, its Cantonese version of Malaysian food. Recommend the Cha Kueh Tiaw. If you are homesick, this will just have to do.

2022-06-11Awesome authentic Malaysian food. My go to is the curry chicken over rice, lo bak, roti with curry, and the beef flat noodles (not sure how to type it in English) but definitely a gem in the middle of Flushing.
