Visited May 2019. We had a great breakfast / brunch - mine was smoked salmon with poached eggs. Everything was tasty and we loved how it was prepped in front of us at the bar. Both diner and staff had that quirky authentic New York vibe - amazing experience!Definitely recommend if youโre visiting NY and looking for some local color.
I actually ate at this restaurant four times and all 4 times it was a very good experience. I sat at the bar and not at one of the tables but I do enjoy sitting up at the bar so why not. The menu prices are equivalent to what you would pay anywhere in Manhattan. I had the southwest salad twice and the burger and fries twice. I was lucky that this restaurant was near my hotel. Thank you very much.
My party of 5 arrived at 4am. Our orders were taken shortly after. The dinner was fairly empty but our food took over 45 mins to make it to the table. Please note! We didnโt order anything fancy, just waffles with fruits & pancakes with bacon. In between the order & arrival time we asked for teas & juices to hold us until the food arrived. At this point it seemed like we were bothering the staff as one waiter responded with sighs & grunts, the others completely forgot about us. By this time multiple other people were arriving in party sizes 2+. We noticed a few smaller tables that were seated well after us being served. A group that entered not to long after us got fed up at this point & completely abandoned their table. All & all the experience was bad. I donโt have an actual food review as I still havenโt eaten๐ฉ!
They sat us near the waiter station, one of my pet peeves for sure. Constant traffic and slamming of cabinet doors. Did not care for our waitress seemed like she had an attitude. Breakfast is $20 per person which is a bit pricey. A burger deluxe is my go to here, under $15 and usually good plus the shakes.
Great neighborhood diner! Standard diner food and theyโre open 24-hrs. You can order corned beef hash extra crispy. And they have those little drink umbrellas - order one of those too to play with while you wait for your food! Love the diner logo on the coffee mug! โค๏ธ
As a first time customer, I really wanted to like this place. The problem wasnt so much the food and service, both of which were great. It was the bad attitude I received upon arrival from a gentleman behind the front corner who I can only assume was the owner or manager. After asking if I could sit at the counter, my next question was: Wheres the mens room? Not such an odd request. The response I received was: Do you want to stay or do you want to go? Im have no idea what his perceived issue was with me since I wasnt rude, intoxicated, rowdy or unkempt. All I know is that his attitude was insulting and uncalled for. Based solely on that, I will never eat here again.
NOT THE BEST, NOT THE WORST!IF THE KITCHEN WERE EQUAL TO THE WAIT STAFF IN CARING TO BE CONSISTENT AND KIND,this place would be Very Good.Dont get a milkshake.A family from upstate were sitting next to me at the counter were so excited until the shakes were delivered. I guided them to Chik-fil-A.I have decent food here. But I am still amazed when the kitchen sends out something burnt hoping to pass it off.But the wait staff always try to be kind.I comeback because its close as most regulars do here.Plus the wait staff seem to care. Now breakfast is still good here and probably their best time to go. I love eggs benedict but its not good up the street at Smiths either. ITS the hollandaise ...no zip...no twang.
Open 24 hours..Good portions but could have more flavor. They do have a brunch menu and a weekend menu.. But its the same stuff you can order any other day. Its also fairly quiet if you want to read. Downside is they only have one restroom which is a bit unkempt. As seen in the pictures I ordered a steak and eggs which I was pretty satisfied with.
WARNING, ROACHES. its so sad to say because this diner is so delicious. but after finishing a satisfying meal, & being served by amazing & kind staff, my boyfriend saw a giant roach crawling on the wall. i was horrified to see this monster & i felt like i was about to puke up my food. i know its manhattan & theres going to be roaches but it was in the restaurant right by our food & our heads. very disgusting & nauseating.
Hey Im an Air Force veteran, having served over 25 years in the military. I called this restaurant on today (6/15/2022), to discuss the condition and improper placement of the United States flag. The person that answered the phone was very rude and wouldnt address my concerns. I asked that you not support this establishment until they place the United States flag in its proper position. No flag should be to the right of the American Flag, or larger than the American Flag.
Meh. A dated, Greek diner with less than modern decor. Although the place has been around for a while, it was clean. Theres also a large selection of desserts. The staff was quasi-friendly but the waiter was good. Prices are very expensive ($20 for a burger and soda?!) and I felt gouged. Ill stick with Queens diners herein.
Walking in I was a bit nervous about the setting, but once we got seated and placed our orders I was highly impressed with my plate of food. I had a fettuccine Alfredo with some chicken and it was absolutely amazing! Wish there was one local in my state because it was probably the best Ive ever had!
The food was very, very good and the staff was friendly. For our first neighborhood diner experience in NYC we were expecting high city prices but we were pleasantly surprised with reasonable costs for a great dinner. As a Pittsburgher, my only complaint was the choice of ketchup. Thank you!
Expensive, even for New York. The service was decent but the food served (quality/portion) didnt quite match the prices charged. Not asking for bigger portions but lower price and/or better cooking. I had a veggie omelet, home fries, toast and carrot juice. They were open early though when few others were. Might even be 24 hour.
24 hours... Check.Standard selection of diner fare... Check.Order prepared crazy fast... Well damn. Took two sips of the water that was promptly put on the table, and my BLT was in front of my face.I know its an easy sandwich to assemble but our entire order arrived so fast our butts had barely warmed the seats. Also, the dinner specials are good until Midnight. Good deal.Seriously, it took me longer to write this short review than it took for our food to come out.
A somewhat affordable diner in Manhattan? Apparently its possible. A breakfast platter didnt cost near $20, but more like $14. My 2 egg platter was $10. Yeah, its no diner prices like the South, but this has a great classic diner atmosphere, and the staff is very New York, and it feels like old NYC. Love it.
A diner. A little expensive for the typical diner fare that it is, but they do have to pay NYC rent. The food was served quickly and the portion size decent even if the quality was a B-. (Im trying to be realistic: my daughter and I liked our food, but it wasnt noteworty in any way). Service was excellent. Id judge it as a good place to go if you have a family of picky eaters because the menu has literally everything on it.
Great food within walking distance of the Hampton Inn Hotel. Everyone was friendly and seemed happy to see us. The food was cooked to perfection (exactly as we ordered it). Our meals were served in a timely manner with no wait time. We were very surprised at how quickly we were served and everything was delicious. So happy our hotel recommended them.
Service was fine, except that our servers nose was out of its mask the entire time, and every time he came around and chatted with us, he was breathing on our food and on us. Not going back, just for that. The sweet potato fries were the best thing we had there, along with the coleslaw. Salmon burger was good.... one of those patties that anyone can buy at the market. Kind of pricey, but they serve big servings.
Decent diner. Much larger on the inside than you would think given most New York places are small. Food was good, but I did wait a while to be able to get more jelly and another orange juice as our waitress was running to many other tables. I believe there were only two people waiting tables for everyone that was there so likely not their fault they were in the weeds. Not somewhere to go out of the way to eat at, but not bad if youre in the area and want breakfast.
Prices are a bit pricey for my taste but what do you expect from the city . I ordered the hungry man platter a side of wings and a margarita. The drink was definitely watered down the hungry man platter couldโve been better it was lacking taste. The bacon ,sausage and ham , maybe seasoning? Iโm not sure what it was missing but the wings I received was great . Fresh out , super crispy hot and tasty ! Our waiter was super nice and attentive. He was the only one working at 2 am . Love that this place is 24 hours regardless of Covid.
We are here at 3am a group of 11. We got water and waited 45 minutes to eventually put in order with waiter to order. Waiter was trying to be funny and often his humor came off rude. Because we just wanted food. we were starving. Desert came first for bday person, then after long waits slowly other food came. Order has to be taken back and side came at random order and times. Just really bad customer service overall
My 1st time coming here was pretty good. I ordered a chicken sandwich deluxe and a side of spaghetti. The spaghetti was really good so Im assuming their other pastas would be good.My 2nd time , I ordered a chicken gyro platter. Came with fries and a salad. The salad was good, but the fries not so great. Figured most of their food is frozen and not fresh. Their prices are a little bit high and I dont think its worth it.
This around the clock diner is there when you really need it - you know, when most of your other options are closed. Very much in the business of feeding the drunk and the starving, this diner delivered what we ordered and in reasonable time, and thats all I could ask of them as one of the aforementioned customers.Chicken Salad club sandwich was overflowing on tiny white toast - Id ask for extra bread next time or what larger options there may be - whole-wheat or rye perhaps would be larger slices.Homefries unfortunately were not served crispy as requested - didnt bother trying to send back though.
Been going here off and on for many, many years. I could even say 20 years. Sometimes the service is slow, but given that when its slow they only have 1 or 2 waiters, its understandable. In fact this particular waiter saw I was super thirsty and promptly gave me more water and then gave me 2 waters at once on a day it was super hot outside. The Caesar salad with grilled chicken is excellent. Ive also had their chicken piccata and I have to say everything is always delicious. This is old school charm in here. Very welcoming amongst the hoity-toity places which dont even have as good service.
I ordered Thanksgiving dinner because I ended up spending Thanksgiving alone :( and I didnt get multiple items that were supposed to be in the order (stuffing, crispy onions). Im very disappointed because stuffing is my favorite part of a Thanksgiving meal :( :( :(I also paid a fair amount of money for the food I got. Will definitely not be ordering from here again
This place is wonderful! They delivered to my hotel all the way to the room. They called to make sure they had everything right. The fruit was amazing and so fresh! We had a ton of food with deserts and extras still it was the cheapest meal we have had in the city! They where so nice on the phone and in person. They give you silverware, napkins and all kinds of condiments. The menu has everything!! The baked good are very good! There is something for everyone. Such a great Manhattan go to.
I loved this place. I just got back to Nyc. First meal.....I eat out every meal. I came here. I was seated...they forgot me no water zippo, I ordered...you know when food is burnt and they just cover it in sauce, you are in trouble. It was so obvious. The guy next to me rolled his eyes.Look...I know there is Covid but the place was not busy. PLUS, Hollondaise requires a dash of red pepper or atleast lemon to give it its twang. This had the consistency of paste with food coloring.I have been coming here for years. Maybe a substitute cook. BUT THE ENGLISH MUFFIN WAS BLACK NOT TOASTED.The check out young lady was absolutely delightful.Did I tip? Por supuesto. Es familia aquรญ.Feliz Navidad.GOSH, Podria haber ahorrado dinero with anEgg McMuffin.
Worst experience EVER! The food was OK, the waitress was on a hurry the whole time to make me order food make eat and kick me out. So disappointed! Then the black manager or hostess upfront on 12/9/21 at noon comes and asks for my signature on 3 times likeLady itโs PAID!! Stop bothering me soDisappointed I need my money back!
Ate a late dinner here with my family after an evening out. The service was great, the menu is huge, and the food was fantastic. I had a roast beef sandwich that was piled up with meat, and was more than I could eat. The staff here was great, very friendly, quick to get an order in, and the food came out fast. The prices are also very reasonable. I didnt get a chance to try the desserts, but they looked very good, we will be back for dessert next time we are in the city.
Holy! This place was great. A group of six of us showed up super late and the staff was so sweet and attentive. You could tell that they really care about their product and service. Our meals were delicious for diner food and theres so many options. And they serve beer and alcohol! The environment is very clean and feels like a cozy diner.
Covid precautions taken from beginning to end. Temperatures taken before getting seated, Hand sanitized before getting seated. More than 6ft. of Social Distancing. All staff maintained their properly worn masks... Add the delicious food and beverages... Perfect combination for an evening or anytime out!
TOTAL RIPPOFF! They made up there pricing. and when i talked to the manager he started making up prices that contradicted the menu i was staring at. He was trying to charge me 5 dollars for the french fries that were stated as included on the menu. And overcharged for the cheese and charged an additional fee for using a credit card. Check your bill very carefully anytime you step foot in this place.
The food here is very good! French fries were nice and crispy, burger was a nice size and was cooked perfectly. My cousin had left his watch and wallet here and the kind waiter (not sure of his name) walked outside of the restaurant, around the corner to bring it back to him. Definitely AMAZING service! Thanks for this wonderful experience. Will definitely come back next time in the city.
Good food at this diner overnight visit after other diners werent taking any orders this one did...thanks!.....well done cheeseburger and cooked as asked correctly right ..instructions from my me and friend on our orders were good ...friendly night staff and fast efficient service. Overall good waiter and was very nice clean natural genuine..smiles and will return....someday hopefully soon..-.BAT
Horrible food ๐คฎ๐คฎ๐คฎThe chicken fingers were burnt and harder than a diamond in a snowstorm. I got diarrhea from the food. The delivery however was ridiculously speedy... so if youโre looking for very speedy delivery and very speedy bowel movements this is probably your place.
This diner was so good!!! The service was amazing, the waitress knew all of her menu items and the food came out so quickly. Not only did It come our quick but It was very delicious as well. Do I think the prices could be a bit cheaper? Sure but I guess itโs NYC. Gotta keep up with market prices I guess. But I had a great breakfast here and will be going back again to try out some of their desserts in the display cases that I saw.
One of the last of great diners in the city (and Im not talking about the shi-shi high end corporate controlled diners that are creeping up in NYC). This is a good ol fashioned diner with some tasty delights 24hrs a day. Drop on by for a bite for some home cooked meals.
Food was awful. Took a friend about an hour before closing on a Monday night. I ordered turkey meatloaf because the menu said it was a Monday dinner special, and friend got some fish filet. Both were not fresh, and not even warm. Vegetables were clearly not fresh either. I didnt even eat half my meal, but we were charged full price for our food. I did ask them to heat my meal up, and then about why the so called turkey gravy on the food looked so odd and thickly covered the food. The manager/waiter seemed very convinced that everything was actually great, the food was fresh and there could not possibly be anything wrong! didnt really listen to my concerns. Felt like an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. They were clearly just interested in kicking us out so they could close. In the end we paid over $50 for this very disappointing meal, and I just feel very taken advantage of with our money and embarrassed for taking my friend here. Thanks for reading, tldr save your money and dont go here, or else they will def charge you when and if they can โ๐ผ
Very disappointing. This had been my favorite diner. The panini ordered came toasted and not grilled. The waitress took back half the sandwich to press it. It was darker and pressed but still not grilled. In fairness my companions burger and fries were good. While we were eating diner staff decided to sweep the floor by our booth which I and another diner customer protested. We were going to order desert and coffee when the waitress sent over another employee with our bill without asking if we wanted anything else. We changed our minds and left with the knowledge that we did not ever want to return. Prior meals there were not great but this was the last straw.
They gave me the wrong order first. I ordered a basic bacon egg and cheese sandwich with a runny egg and a smoothie. They give me a (non-runny) egg, bacon and cheese on an English muffin with two coffees and a chocolate milk. Call, said theyโll send a replacement over right away. An HOUR LATER the food finally shows up and it was no ice cold (and the egg still wasnโt runny.) no exaggeration, the food was colder than the smoothie. Will never be ordering from there again.
Surprisingly really good. I ordered a bacon omelette, the service was really friendly and efficient. While food was nothing stunning, it was definitely good for diner place. They have a very wide choice of drinks and food. Definitely go there if you dont want to think too much and keep it cheap.
Its an old fashioned New York Greek coffee shop, with an extensive menu and friendly service. You are greeted when you arrive and thanked when you leave. (Nothing to do with Malibu, by the way.) Have looked into the kitchen and rest rooms any they are really clean! Great if youre looking for breakfast at any hour, comfort food, have children along or a group with different tastes. The only reason I gave it three stars is that the prices are as high as restaurants with tablecloths and so on. The portions are large however and you may end up having some wrapped up to take home.
This is a family run, super friendly place with great service. Might not look like the most modern place from the outside, but its cosy and clean inside with a classic diner menu. Chefs are very open to cooking the food to your taste. Lots of room to sit with a big section at the back. Very reasonable prices too.
Have been going to Malibu diner for over 10 years now. Wether running in to grab a coffee to-go or Sunday morning breakfast. An easy go to where everyone is friendly, food is always dependable and quick. During current environment and pre pandemic highly recommend for a place you can retreat to when wanting to relax in clean, comforting and quaint environment. Or be able to order on the go without a long wait.
Major increase in price. 2x or 3x the amount. Better off inviting people over to your place and make food on your own. Not worth it. Not only did you get that stimulus package but now you want to charge double to overcompensate and tell your customers that you need the money. This is why small businesses donโt last. Since when a Small sandwich on a roll was approx 9$?
Aesthetics usually give me some idea of what my dining experience will be. An owner who cares what the atmosphere will look like will also have a same eye for the food and service they provide. That was not the case for this restaurant, I despised the atmosphere but everything else was excellent. A menu for EVERYBODY! And decent prices.
This place is brilliant! If you are looking for a real slice of American life, this is the place for you.My husband and I had breakfast here twice during our honeymoon and though we went to some very famous places to eat, we both agreed that it was our favourite eatery of the visit. The staff were friendly and efficient and the portions were generous.I would recommend to anyone.
Came in for a quick breakfast. Service was good and food came out quick. As I was eating, I noticed a blind man had come in and sat at the counter. When the server brought his coffee, he asked if he wanted cream and sugar. He added the cream and sugar, stirred and said, There you go as he walked away. That simple gesture made me fall in love with this place. A little dose of humanity for breakfast. โค๏ธ
This place is horrible. The wait staff is not attentive at all. Homeless people come in and out and use the restroom as if its the Thing to do. The omelette was partially done. The fruit salad was hard and bitter. The coffee taste as if it were drained from a mop. First and last time EVER coming here.
Over priced, even for the city. Service was awful. 3 of us ordered the chicken tenders and the server brought out the appetizer chicken tenders and no fries. Didnt ask which we wanted, meal or app. The chicken was freezer burnt and awful. Frozen bags of Great Value brand are better quality.
Do not go here. There are so many places in New York that have amazing food and service. This is not one of them. The food has no flavor at all. Even the cranberry juice is bland. We waited at least 10 minutes to even be greeted at the table. Iโm pretty disappointed I spent $25 (pre tip) on a breakfast that didnโt taste like anything and hardly filled me up. Skip this place during your stay.
I have been going there for years and having breakfast, lunch, and or dinner. This time it was just a truly delicious, but simple, cup of coffee and a piece of marble pound-cake. I enjoyed their cheerful service, the food, drink and the quiet time before heading home.
This is an institution in Manhattan. From here we walked a few blocks to the High Line. One of the best diner breakfasts I had on vacation whilst in New York. Eggs were great and coffee lovely, not bitter like some diner coffees. Service was speedy and not too expensive.
Just had a tough day at work, try to get some home cook soup and unwind. The beef barley soup hit the spot, just like my mom used to make it. The broth warm you up, the celery and tomato cool to perfection. Wow. 5 star all the way. The new waiter, Allen, cater to your every need. Just amazing.Saw the nicely cookies display on the outside. Order a cup of nice hot coffee and a big cookie. Very fresh. The chocolate melts in your mouth. 2/112020
Its not the type of place to go for an enjoyable time over some good food. The atmosphere is bland and outdated. The food leaves a lot to be desired. When you cant fry an egg properly, just close your doors. Theres no sense of refinement when anyone can walk in off the street for the restroom. For the price they charge, just say no.
I was happy with the food (for a typical diner, you know what to expect) but not with the service. The waitress had no particular order in which to handle customers, and was rather bothered when it was pointed out that she was serving customers that came after we had seated but had not yet ordered. I know these places are busy on weekends, but service people would do well to treat their customers more fairly.
The seats and table werent clean. Homeless people are freely in the restroom and paying customers are waiting to use( I chose against it). The fruit salad was hard and bitter. The waiter was not professional. I asked for more butter for my toast and he caught a attitude slamming the bowl of butter on the table. The omelette was runny. The coffee was cold.. ABSOLUTELY NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN
George and the staff were so helpful and accommodating for a really large group that came together last minute. They went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed and checked in throughout the meal. Real friendly service is hard to come by and George was the best. Will be back again!
Ate there today for the first time. The aesthetics were nothing fancy but who cares because its a diner, right? Id rather they put their heart and soul into the food and customer service. Nice and easy vibe inside. Courteous and engaging staff. Lightning fast service from placing the order to getting the food -- within 2 minutes. Massive portion for the bacon and eggs (with potatoes), which was good ... and the lox and bagel was top-shelf.
We visited here before going to the Gotham Comedy Club, which is very close by, and wanted a place that was fast, reasonably priced and tasty. The Malibu Diner came through on all three fronts. I got a salad with chicken that was delicious - fresh ingredients, tasty seasoned grilled (not breaded) chicken and homemade dressing. My wife had very good soup and a fruit salad and my son had an omelette - all very good and reasonably priced. We had to leave for the comedy show but returned after to get a dessert to bring home with us - all freshly made daily at the restaurant - and it was great too! Highly recommended.
I often have breakfast here and its usually good food and excellent service so tonight at 8:45pm on Easter Sunday I thought I would have my holiday dinner here. The waiter was so annoyed when I asked what my choices for vegetables and salad dressings were. He kept me waiting until he finished he finished his clowning around with the other servers..he was annoyed that I was in his station and treated me rudely..I wont bother him again,I will go elsewhere for dinner from now on
Really nice. A friend and I were looking for a place to eat and just walked in. They wont take card unless its over 10 dollars, but still. Prices are good and the food was delicious. The waiter seemed a bit snappy, which is why the 4 stars, but would definitely go back for the food.
Scam! Charged $16 For a burger and fries. I thought i was paying $10 For my turkey burger, but the waiter said with fries? This makes it sound like its part of the meal, but its not. They should ask do you want to go deluxe and get fries? I feel ripped off. I am in this area all the time, but Ill never visit this place again. Be honest and upfront. I dont like hidden fees or misleading information.
They have the same menu as every other diner in the tri-state area (thats kind of the point), but the quality is much better.I just had the typical spinach salad with grilled chicken, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful, and freshly-cooked. That doesnt happen at most other places.

2022-02-15Lovely time having breakfast with my husband. He ordered the steak and eggs, was very pleased with it. I got the eggs and turkey sausage with a side of avocado. We decided to seat all the way to the back, it was a little chilly, maybe next time get the middle area. Overall the food was good and the server was very attentive.

2022-02-02Clean diner, fast and friendly service. Extensive menu. I popped in for a fast breakfast. My eggs were cooked to order and were fine; however, I do not recommend their corned beef hash.

2022-02-27Had the scrambled eggs that were good. The drinks were good too. The place has a very old school vibe, in a good way.Wanted to replace the toast with greens, but was told only potatoes can be replaced with greens but not the toast ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ

2022-06-10Good place to catch a bite and eat some classic dishes. The restaurant has a great vintage and classic American diner atmosphere. The food is a bit expensive, however.

2022-07-02Portions are big. Cheese omelet is a bit dry-ish. Potato is a bit dry-ish and not very flavorful. Waiters are very nice and friendly, and the atmosphere is joyful.

2021-12-14Stopped here for breakfast... Of the many diners Ive eaten breakfast at in the USA this one was average. Had cornbeef hash which was a processed version and it tasted a little plasticy. Coffee was good.

2021-08-22It was a Wednesday night/Thursday morning around 2 AM, we scrambled to find a place that was open with good food on the way to Penn station since the train left at 3. Just so many closed restaurants, it was maddening, but the Malibu Diner was there to help like a step stool for a kid trying to get to the cookie jar. The best part of the night might have been the food here, the coffee was phenomenal even by diner standards, and you cant beat the 24 hour setup. Go there, eat there, make it a tradition.
