Amazing experience! If you thought filipino food in NYC and pinoy taste kitchen food will leave you hungry, think again. You should skip several meals before visiting this amazing restaurant. Everything is so tasty, you cannot restraint yourself from having all of the dishes and on top amazing service and reasonable price.
I went here twice and the food here is phenomenal!! they removed some of the things ive had on the menu, but everything here is delicious. if you’re new to Filipino cuisine, try adobo or tosilog. the desserts here are great and I wish they can bring back the best cheesecake I’ve had, the ube cheesecake.
Their sisig is really good but really disappointed with the service tonight. When you come after 9pm make sure to eat fast because theyll rush you out. Theyll take your drinks and plates without even asking if you are done or not. The person next to us asked for water but one of the servers said sorry kitchen is closed. She did not even finish her food and just left. So embarrassing. Calling this restaurant a filipino restaurant is too generous. They did not showcase filipino hospitality.P.S. I paid $7.50 for their sagot gulaman that tasted water.
We ate at Mama Fina’s in new york this july 3rd, it was our last night in NY and we were really craving for filipino food as we live in europe. The food is good, we ordered sisig, langka, grilled liempo and halo halo. I’m rating them low since some of the staffs were very rude. They were speaking spanish but we know they were talking about us , 1 of the guys actually makes rude signs, laughing and looking at us. I didn’t appreciate that everyone keeps on pressuring us to finish our meal. We went there around 9pm, the meals weren’t served quickly and it was as if they were expecting us to finish everything that fast. They could have advised us they were closing a few minutes before their actual close and not pressuring us at exactly 10! They kept on cleaning our table, even our glasses and kept telling they are closed while we were still eating. It’s ridiculous! Didn’t enjoy the meal. Good food but horrible experience. 👎
For an expensive meal pretty decent beef with pretty decent rice and a side of frozen microwave vegetables, complete with those bits of corn and diced carrots (you know the one. It was also all dry and not too flavorful. Unseasoned, uninspired and way too expensive for what you get. I really wanted to like it too.
If you like sisig or Filipino cuisine this is a place to check out! Food was yummy. Probably go after 6 otherwise it’s a little quiet nobody around. People starting coming in around 630. Beefsteak was yummy!! The Turon and Camote Turon was so good! I highly recommend this place! Let’s support them!
VERY OVERPRICED for Filipino food. They include the tip in your meal but signs to tip their staff are posted. I’d say pay them a living wage since the food is so pricey for what it is. Ordered Chicken sisig which was more of pork rinds and onions than chicken. Very disappointed.
This small place was recommended to me and as a Filipino, the food here is sobra masarap (very delicious)! I had their morning menu, and I got the bangus sisig. It was expecting a whole fried fish. But it was mixed in with onions, garlic, and other spices. And surprisingly, I loved it! The Halo-Halo at the end was great and sweet! Visiting here definitely reminded me of home!
With Filipino foods on the rise in popularity, i love my exprience with Mama Fina’s! Went there a couple of times, a couple times with friends and one time with family travelling from California.Sisig is my favorite of all on the main dish! Halo-halo is my favorite for desert. They have fried rice that goes well with sisig. They also have red horse beer, a strong filipino beer a favorite in the philippines.Friendly staff, cozy place with nice resto design! Lots of seats. Order was served quick. They have other awesome Filipino foods like pansit, lain, adobo and so much more. They too have different alcohol drinks. You can make reaervation and they have menu you can choose. I highly recommend Mama Finas!
Hip Filipino food in a rustic setting!Food 5/5DELICIOUS! Every dish is very flavor intense! Great to have it with rice. Get the $2 garlic rice upgrade, you wont regret it. It’s worth the extra calories. My favorite was the crispy pork belly adobo. Crispy skin, succulent meat accompanied with savoury yet tangy sauce.. yumzzzzzThe stir fry taro leaves is also a must. Stir fried with coconut milk and preserved shrimp. Texture is bit like spinach. It very interesting and very filipino. Must try! Also their house speciality, the sisig. My first time trying squid sisig (normally its pork). Very interesting take. Deep fried dried squid i think. Its delicious but it is a bit on the greasy heavier side.I was so looking forward to the halo halo but they sold out. However, we got to try the ube cheesecake instead. Please share as it is like a mini whole cheesecake and really dense but creamy, delicious and that ube flavour is everything!Service 5/5When they say asians are very hospitable, this place is the proof! Everyone will greet you with a smile, a smile that is visible through the face mask. Everyone is also wearing a mask and following covid 19 protocolsAmbiance 5/5Rustic! Great music too. Warm lighting. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Best of all, they have screens installed between tables. Very well spaced out so we felt safe!
A New York Times review brought me here and I ordered the recommended squid sisig. At $17 this would be my most expensive sisig and also my least liked. The first bite was crunchy and savory but a few minutes after it had made its way further into my digestive system, I could feel that it would sit heavily on my stomach. The food is just too greasy and theres nothing to cut through the fat, not a piece of lime and not even banana ketchup.Aside the food, the inside looks like the most generic Irish pub, and little hints that youre at a Filipino restaurant. You also order at the counter before being seated; your food is then brought to your table and when youre done you go back to the counter to pay. Its not a system that makes a lot of sense and its one that increases the potential for neglectful service.Overall not a place Id return to.
Some Filipino restaurants try to make Filipino food into some fancy dining experience with lackluster results. Mama Fina does Filipino food right, keeping it true to our roots.I wish I went with other poeple so I could get a larger sample of the food. The bangus and sinangag were delicious.Make a reservation and bring a group. Also , the service isnt as slow as some reviews have stated.
We went here on a Wednesday night at around 8:30pm. Didnt need to book but Ive heard it can be busy so reservation is recommended. Each sisig plate is around $20 which is reasonable for New York. We also tried their laing which was really good. Everything was on the salty end, but thats generally the case with Filipino food. Definitely will be back to try the other styles of sisig and the other dishes.
Very good food! ordered pork sisig + sinigang + tapsilog + halo-halo + leche flan.very nice space, really liked the aesthetic going on. lighting was a bit dim, and the music was a bit loud -- but thats just me.its on the pricey side of life [was with three friends, all the food we ordered, no drinks, was $200+ including tip], but thats kinda what youd expect to spend in the city.all that to say, id definitely go back! i really wanted to try the pancit bihon but they werent serving it at the time. halo-halo was okay, more like patbingsu. leche flan was ON POINT.
The Bangus Sisig was good, especially with the upgraded garlic rice and a San Miguel beer. As a previous review mentioned, it really starts to stick in your stomach. In my case, it was the consistent shallot and black bean taste that a bit of greens or something would have relieved. Despite the size, it is really filling. Also, it wasnt crowded when I got there on a Saturday afternoon and there is no outdoor seating. Dont get confused with the line that may appear in front of the restaurant as that is the line for the bagel spot next door.
The food was excellent. We had the pork sisig and the bistek. Im hard pressed for Filipino food that doesnt overpower your palate with either salt or grease but there was no problem here. Bringing my momma for a lunch date here so I can try their other dishes. OH! And order the fresh melon juice! It was absolutely delicious.
Bringing my friends here for lunch yesterday . make a reservation at 2pm for 6 people .. you have to order the food first because the menu is at the board .. we have a great table .All the Food is amazing good .. will be backLove the lumpia , Laing , halo halo , kare kareoxtail , Java rice , Turon , bbq pork , Lechon kawaliYummy 🤤 👍..
This place was soo cute, i was suprised they seated us considering it was about to close. Well seasoned tofu, creamy flan, and the drink was my favorite forgot the name but it was a mix between bubble tea, a sloshy and jello perfect hint of sweetness. The eggroll banana thing wasnt my favorite it was so caramelized the outer shell was too hard.
Food was not bad, however it is the ambience and service that completely turn my family and I off. Service was slow and management unhelpful. I personally asked if we could mix and match sisig slider flavors at which point the manager said yes. So the intent was to order two orders of 4 sliders each, and I proceeded to provide the combinations. Mind you there were only 4 patrons and we had ordered other full dishes. Not once did he advise that for a party of 4, this is too much. Then came 4 orders of 4 --> so a total of 16 sliders! I approached the manager to indicate there must have been a misunderstanding and he asked how many did you eat? So I told him we only ate 4, he agreed to not charge us for two orders and told the staff to make sure they took the uneaten ones off the table. Odd..I truly hope the uneaten sliders were not served to other patrons.
The food is really good and pretty traditional. I would highly recommend the pork sisig, jackfruit in coconut milk and halohalo. The food by itself I would rate a 4.5 but the service was lacking. The servers seemed not to know what’s on the menu. It could be that they’re not familiar with Filipino words but they could’ve been trained a lot better. It was very, very frustrating to spend so much time ordering because they had to look at what we’re pointing at on the menu and copy (?) the spelling. They also forgot us after we got our food. We wanted to order more food (yes, it was that good) and have our water glasses refilled but it took a lot of effort to get someone to help. I will still come back for the food but next time I think I will write my own order to cut back on my frustration.
Hands down, this is the best spot for Filipino food in the city. The pork sisig is crispy, salty, and a healthy portion-size -- we even shared and it was plenty for two. The laing is creamy and the taro is cooked to perfection. The menu is extensive and the staff members are absolutely lovely. This is a new favorite spot well be revisiting again soon.
I’ve been here twice now and both times(group of 8, and group of 4) I have truly enjoyed the food - a huge variety from the menu, especially their original and tuna sisig’s, and their sizzling steak, as well. I appreciate how we can also order ahead of time so if you come hungry, you don’t have to wait for too long for your food. Everything always comes out fast. The prices are also reasonable, being that it’s Filipino food in Manhattan, which tends to be more expensive than the ones in Queens. Highly recommend taking your parents, Tito’s and Titas, cousins, friends, and significant others here!
Very easy to love Mana Finas - for me, its about a restaurant that is all about serving the best Filipino Food I have had the good fortune of experiencing. I actually think that there is a Mama Fina cooking in the kitchen of this special restaurant. Attended a birthday lunch with my dear C and a couple of very special friends. Every possible dish had been ordered and coordinated by the Birthday Celebrant. Imagine - of course, L is an expert in Fillipino food. Each dish was special, a culinary treat and what I particularly love are the delicate aromas that one receives from well prepared Fillipino dishes...the service was very even, environment for of funky exotic in decor, and the music was excellent. A mix of music popular from this 80s and 90s...sweet.The cocktails were imaginative too...all in one - Brilliant!
We like a lot hanging out. Last night we went to this magnificent place which friends told us about. We enjoyed a lovely evening there with high-qulity cooking and an experienced team and an impressive chef. We added this place in our list and we will definitely visit again soon. We warmly recommend.
Came here right at opening and was greeted by the owner or manager. He was friendly and explained what to do.Upon seating, we ordered a pink lemonade and the iced tea. The iced tea was amazing! The pink lemonade was also pretty good, but also know that they serve them in very tall glasses, so drink up!Next, we ordered the lumpia shanghai, the bangus sisig, and pancit bihon. Everything was pretty tasty, but the lumpia was just okay to me. The meat seemed a tad tough in my opinion but nonetheless everything was delicious and staff were always friendly and helpful. The only reason why Im not giving it 4 or 5 stars is because the next morning I woke up around 3am and didnt feel too good from whatever we ate. We didnt have much else after that meal and actually skipped dinner because we were so full, but something definitely was not agreeing with my stomach. Im not sure exactly what it was, but it felt like the stomach flu or food poisoning. The top of my stomach was hurting and I ended up throwing up some of the food from that meal. Its unfortunate, but hopefully others have a better experience after visiting this place.
My girlfriend who is filipina took me here and my life was changed. I eat here now a few times a month (without her). The spicy sisig is the truth! Be advised, each item on the menu is for sharing! I learned that this is part of the Filipino culture. Also great atmosphere and friendly staff!
I’ve known this establishment for more than 10 yrs now since I used to visit my relatives In NJ and my relatives live near the original Mama Finas and I kept telling them to open one here in and they did eventually! I’ve seen the owners’ kids grow and that’s how much I love this restaurant. Reasonably priced great portions and delicious! My fave is to combine the squid and tofu spicy sisig
So as soon as you walk in to this place, you will see that it isnt your traditional Filipino restaurant. I wasnt able to get a solo picture of it, but if you look behind my son, youll see that they have these giant menus posted on the wall. Well, you actually have to order upfront from the giant menu before youre able to sit down at your table. It kinda reminds me of Sizzlers wayyyyyy back in the day.Another thing youll notice right away are the prices; this place is preeeeeeetty expensive. I will honestly say that its worth it though because OMG the food is soooooooo good. I ordered the pork sisig and it was amazing. It was perfectly flavored and had that nice crunchiness of the chicharron. For the price though, all of the portions are definitely on the small side. Lastly, most of their drinks come in that really tall and nice-looking glass in the picture, so theres that.
The food and especially the sisig is very good. The filipino hospitality is terrible. Under staff, bad management who had the nerve to request at least 15% tip. Once the food was served, no one came to to the table to follow up and refill our drinks. They were quite rude by asking for a bigger tip and i only complied to be polite because I had a catholic nun with me. Even the nun was upset about the rudeness and told me that I should not have given the tip. Will only do take out from this point.
Went with my Filipino friends. Trusted them to order everything. My favorite was the pusit sisig. Also loved the leche flan. We also had 2 other sisig (pork and milkfish), Kare kare, Lechon, Laing and snow peas. Halo halo was meh. Turon was yummy. One of my friends refused to eat any of the dishes with vegetables saying that Filipinos don’t eat veggies. Hehe.My friends said the prices were high but the food was great.
Really excellent Filipino food in an area with lots of good Filipino food. Try the sisig, because thats what theyre famous for, but the silogs are really great, too (especially the tapsilog). Last time I was here, 90% of the patrons were Filipino, Soo you know its good.
If you are looking for amazing sisig, this is the place. but be prepared for a very long wait. the place is severly understaffed, and the manager is slow and completely clueless on the basic functionality of a food service establishment.when you walk in, no one greets you, not even a mere glance. i understand if the place is busy, but it is 6PM and only half the tables are seated. you order up at the front first and then take your seat, but it takes you to say excuse me to the manager who is nose deep into the ipad/register to even acknowledge you. so you order and then take your seat at the table. all is well, but ten minutes go by and you finally get your silverware and napkins. another five minutes, you finally get water. thirty minutes go by and you wish they had complimentary table snacks like chips. FOURTY MINUTES later and the food arrives. sisig, amazing.. the pork and fish are not bad either, but the side of mixed vegetables is legit from the frozen food aisle. AND there wasno follow up by the wait staff, no checking up to see if everything is ok. and no offers for sauces like soy sauce or vinegar. PLEASE TRAIN YOUR STAFF BETTER. and while you dine you get to see all the dirty glassware and dishes pile up at the bar. none of the staff seem to mind that it gets in the way and is unsightly.now.. when you close up and ask for the check, you must go back to the counter. not a big deal, but again the aloof manager just ignores you. he is too busy misunderstanding the orders being shouted to him by the wait staff. it is so unsettling that he could not add on a side order of white rice to table 11. it seems he could not navigate the app on the ipad thoroughly. and all the while the restaurant phone keeps ringing, in his hand, and he never answered it.. too busy trying to figure out how to use the ipad. countless customers walked in, excited, looking around, looking at the menu, excited with what they want to eat... but frustrated that no one was attending to them, or simply telling them, ‘i will be right with you.’ and those countless customers walked out faster than they walked in. i felt so annoyed i wanted to get up and move the manager over and finish entering orders myself and start accomodating to the customers still waiting. after twenty minutes of this disappointing scene, bill paid and signed for. sacrificed customer service for good sisig. as a filipino, i am embarrassed, because we are known for our hospitality.
An AMICABLE place! The staff are genuinely friendly and easy to talk with. I came here by accident, met a long lost friend and was dragged here since she was starving. She is a regular and I am the new recruit! Lol!Kidding aside, the crispy pata, stewed oxtail and the adobo was satisfying! We ended with a halo halo a Filipino dessert which is really divine! I cant wait to share this place with my love ones.
Came here on a Sunday night. All I can say is that the food wasnt fresh. The bulalo wasnt even hot! It was warm. And the sisig was burnt. I understand that it can be crispy at times but to be charred at the bottom is different. The one in Paterson is what Ive gotten used to. And they serve better food there to say the least. Gotta step up your game!
From the first moment you enter this place the stuff gives you an enjoyable feeling. Very warm team, it is a nice place to to go out with your friends or with your date. delicious meals, skillful chief cook and stuff, good price and excellent service. Highly recommended.
There are not that many Filipino places that I have heard of and that are really trending. Filipino is low key extremely good. Sisig is so simple yet it packs a punch in flavor.I got the squid and pork sisig with plain and garlic rice. You must try the garlic rice with the squid sisig. It is the epitome of decadence and richness. I recommend getting the dishes a little spicier because mild in my opinion was not spicy at all. Some spice would help break down the decadence of the sisig. Also use the vinegar in the table. Its there for a reason. Adding a drop it two on to the rice will make everything taste so much better. Scoop up some sisig and vinegar-rice and you wont regret it.
Just as delicious as the Jersey location. Expect an NYC increase in cost, but its still the best Sisig around. Told by Sam from this location that there are bring differences between this menu and the Elmwood Park location. Some dishes offered here, but not offered there and vice versa. Ive always known the Jersey location as cash-only. Seeing as this location just opened yesterday, they do not accept credit card, be sure to bring cash.
Calling it the house of sisig is fitting. You only throw in some calamansi and you have a sizzling sisig as authentic as you have in the Philippines. You have a variety of protein to choose from for your sisig, in our motherland mostly you get it in pork. If you are a Coke addict, they serve a tall glass of Coca Cola for you! Not as good as we have in the Philippines but you can never beat a sisig and coke pairing. Their portions can be shared by 2-3 people and come with plain or garlic rice.
Food is good, but unfortunately the service is terrible. Not only do you order at the counter or pre-order your food, but they demand 15% tip. You dont even have a server, they dont refill your drinks or ask if the food is okay, yet somehow, have the nerve to require a certain percentage. Not cool.
Great food... just not so great service... :( Understaffed maybe? Or they just move really slow. One time we asked the owner about a private dinner reservation at their restaurant for a certain date, he just said, “we are closed that day”, end of conversation. Maybe they already have a lot of business that they dont give a “f” anymore.. lol... If you come here for the food, go ahead, by all means. But if you don’t have the patience to wait for your food or assistance, then don’t come here...

2022-04-24A nice Filipino restaurant with good ambiance, certainly not a hole in the wall. Service is attentive and fairly quick. The food, while may not be as good as in the motherland, are certainly authentic and about as good as you can get in the US. Portion sizes are quite reasonable for the price. The pork sisig is proper and crunchy. The sinigang is nice and tangy. The gambas, lumpia, turon, and halo2 are alright too (see photos for portion sizes, the halo2 portion was particularly large)

2022-07-17This was actually my first time having a full experience of filipino meal. I must say, everything was up to standard, flavor, taste everything was there.Uber halo-halo my favorite 😍 plus it looks so pretty. The only thing I would add, is it would be such a better experience/ drink with SHAVED ICE, instead of crush ice. It would make a big difference. Taron were good. Fried milk fish (disalog) was delicious with garlic rice, sunny side-up egg, with veggies. Cant wait till we come back and try more dishes on the menu.

2022-06-16Sisig was a bit of a letdown. It is not of the same taste and quality as the NJ location. I think this one has mayo in their recipe. I found most of what we ordered to be a bit on the salty side.I would have to echo a previous reviewer that service leaves much to be desired. I know its especially hard to hire service staff in these times. You need to train your staff to communicate better. You cant have them just assume that the customer is finished eating and have them take the plates and food away. Teach them also to smile, greet and be friendlier.

2021-10-02In short, this is a mismanaged restaurant that serves greasy food.I came on a Thursday evening on behalf of my company to scout this restaurant for Octobers Filipino American Heritage Month. My overall experience was very disappointing and not close to the 4-star reputation they have online. The photo of their Crispy Palabok Noodles shows the greasy mess beneath a convincing façade. You can see the grease caked onto the utensils and noodles themselves. Most of it is from the pork/skin itself which could greatly enhance the flavor, but sadly it simply doesnt taste good. I literally couldnt finish the rest of it as I felt my cholesterol rising.I will give credit to the Halo Halo dessert I had afterwards. The ice-cream portion was very nice and the rest was of typical quality. One can tell that the manager/owner of this restaurant is ignorant to the level of standard they should maintain. The air vents and light fixtures were all layered with dust. The tile floor across the entire restaurant was caked with dark grime that caused everyones feet to stick. Clearly, it is too much effort to simply mop the floor every night with a cleaning agent. Lastly, and this is the kicker, the stairs leading below the restaurant channeled the smell of sewage to the entire building. The smell was more pungent than if I had walked onto the street and stood over a storm drain. When you spend $45 for two dishes in Manhattan youd expect a relatively nice experience. This restaurant did not deliver and is on a trajectory to lose their 4-star reputation.I hope they turn things around and adopt better standards.

2021-06-13Was hunting for an authentic Filipino food restaurant in the city and stumbled across this awesome gem!I had never had Sisig before so was curious to try it. I got the crispy pork Sisig and upgraded to the garlic rice and a fresh mango smoothie. I also got the halo halo for desert. The crispy pork Sisig was soooooo good! No wonder it’s one of the most popular items on their menu. The portion sizes are massive so bring an empty stomach! The halo halo is definitely big enough to be shared by 2-3 people as well. The staff were super friendly and willing to talk through the menu with a newbie like me. Will definitely be back for more!

2021-09-26Authentic Filipino dishes especially the sisig choices (pork, chicken, squid). These are my favorites and if you havent tasted any Filipino dish yet, you cant go wrong with these. There are plenty of food in the menu. You have to try each to experience the different flavors.Service and staff are fast. They tend to their customers your entire stay. The restaurant is along 167 Avenue A, New York 10009. Parking is along the street. This restaurant is only on the 1st floor. It is spacious and plenty of tables from front area to middle and back. Tables caters from 2 guests to 4 and more. Will definitely recommend this place. $$

2022-02-27You have to order first in the counter before you can sit. Like how you order in fast food. They are a little bit pricey & the food portions are small. When it comes to taste, it was okay, nothing special. They’ll charge tips automatically on your bill. 18% on party of 3 people & below & 20% on party of 4 people & above. Service is below average, you have to look for your server because for some reason, they’re nowhere to find if you need them.

2021-10-24For my friends who haven’t really had authentic Filipino food, even they said the lumpia, sisig and rice was amazing. For me having stayed in the Philippines for two years, I can say that this place is very authentic, but I wish they had more well known dishes on the menu such as adobo or curry. Sadly they were out of Bicol express when we visited, but they do have that on the menu.Great place if you want sisig and lumpia!

2022-08-14If a restaurant (felt like a fast food joint really) can be any more pretentious it would be Mama Finas. Signs about tipping plastered all over probably means they have horrible service and customers dont tip. If you cant afford to tip, you cant afford to eat out !??!!? Tips are earned. Their staff did not earn it. $100+ plus for 3 breakfast meals seams absurd. If your service was better...maybe you wouldnt worry about tips. Or just pay your staff with better wages and we would all have a better experience. The food was on the salty side. And as others have mentioned, very greasy. Bring mouth wash to get rid of the oily after taste. Never going back and ill stick to places in woodside.

2022-03-12I got the tofu sisig with white rice. I’ve never tried the tofu before, but it was delicious! The tofu was super crispy and flavorful, which went really well with the plain white rice. Even though I ate my entire portion, I didn’t feel sleepy from being so full (like I would have with pork). This is my first time coming to Mama Fina’s, after two years (of the pandemic), and it honestly felt like nothing changed (on my side—the consumer side). I really appreciated the service I received and would go back again to try other dishes!
