I bought my 1st salt water tank, fish and corals from them. The quality of the products are excellent and everyone is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have helped me through some bumps in the road and my aquarium is thriving. I highly recommend them, especially to a beginner.
Ordered online for a fish listed in stock, order sat for 5 days with no updates. Contacted store to find out the fish was never in stock ( even though still listed as in stock) never sent communication about issue. Demanded refund immediately. Do not buy anything online from here as they do a poor job of communicating and up keeping their website.
I’ve been coming here for over 3 years. Every time I go here the experience depends on if I get help from Melissa or someone else. Anyone else will give me a warm experience but whenever I get helped by Melissa she’s pretty condescending and incorrect. Melissa did not know the name of one of the fish I wanted purchase. On top of that she wasn’t able to net them for me because she would disrupt the display and “make a mess” if she tried. She further added that she has been in the hobby for 9 years and she can guarantee that those fish are impossible to catch. Talk about LAZY AND RUDE. The other times she helped me and I did purchase something. She would Always add an extra fish to the price and charge me more than I needed to be charged. We will not be coming back. She’s clearly missing something from her life. One day she’ll be happy tho. But after 3 years is there any hope?Other fish stores net out freshwater fish in displays and sell them. Lets get with the times.
I never leave bad review to any kind of business, Ive been going to this store for few years and every time i have bad experience so I really feel like sharing with the owner and future customers.Everything in the store is way over priced! Even on SALE WEEKEND when they offer 25% off all live stock they make sure to raise prices even more that even if you get the discount its not worth it! Service is really bad, few times I left water to be tested, and I never got the results! When I called to follow up answer was One of the employees must have thrown it away this happened at least 4-5 times! They have no patient to customers at all unfortunately and sometimes they can be even rude! They do get nice stuff from time to time but it is definitely not worth it.I will not recommend shopping in this store, there are not too many out there, but definitely better ones!
Have gone a few times now and am very happy with this place. It is pretty clean and inviting walking in. Display tanks show obvious love for all types of aquarium systems. The livestock is always very healthy and at resonable prices. Coral selection is outstanding and I have found some great frags here.
I really like this place, and the fish I’ve purchased from here have been healthier compared to big chain places, plus the vibe is really cool for browsing. That said, the employees don’t necessarily go out of their way to check on you or even welcome you into the store (you pass by the cashier to enter the store), but they’ve always been helpful and friendly when I’ve asked questions.
For a new saltwater tank enthusiast I was happy with the information and the knowledge they provided. The shop was small but incredible. After seeing it on Youtube I wanted to come see it for myself. I purchased some rock for my 125 saltwater tank and couldnt be more happier. Made my trip well worth it.
If only it were bigger it would get 5 stars. Best place in Manhattan, maybe all NY. Monster aquarium is a narrow tie I bought a lot of fish here and none of them have died. Prices are sometimes a bit higher, but they have the best stuff. That said they sometimes have deals.
I live a couple hours upstate and was just passing by yesterday on the way back to Grand Central from the NY Boat Show. I had been having some difficulty cycling my tank and Morris took the time to chat with me about it and offer his expertise. The store wias beautiful and clean, the tanks were spotless and the fish were very healthy. I had an overall amazing experience in this place and can say without hesitation that this would be my go to LFS if I lived even remotely close. As far as the reviews saying that the store is tucked away, yes, that’s true. But for someone who lives way up in the woods and doesn’t navigate Manhattan too often it honestly wasn’t too difficult to find. :)
I love everything about this place. Prices are not what you can get from amazon, but the knowledge they give to you while making the purchase is well worth the extra price tag. And with amazon you cant keep coming back asking question, cause you got a setting wrong on your lights, or if this fish/chemical is right for your tank.
They open at 12 now. Not 11. Nice of them to not change their hours online. Now I just wasted my time crossing town to pick something up when I could have gone somewhere else to begin with. Also they’re typically overpriced and with poor selection. Done with this store.
I went here to request a quote for a custom aquarium and one of the guys said that I had to come back on a weekday. Okay fine. But he would then continue talking to another coworker. I asked another question and he would respond and right away continue his conversation with the other coworker, as if I was bothering him or something or wasting his time with my questions. Not a good impression but I don’t want to define this place by this one guy. The store and the rest of the people who work there are great.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this store, but it was a very welcoming experience and the employees were very helpful and attentive giving me great information on the fish and corals that I wanted to purchase, all in all, it’s a great store with a variety of fish and corals that keeps me coming back to see what new stuff they have.
The fish are cool and some of the staff are friendly and helpful while others need a serious attitude adjustment!!! I asked a question and this lady just looked at me in the face and ignored me, pretty rude. Anyways i am not a picky person when it comes to customer service but dont look at potential customers like they come from planet mars. Thanks
I disagree with the one star reviews, I think that if you actually know what your doing, like adding fish & corals to your tank, they are the most helpful. because the people who work there actually have fish tanks. Also the world doesnt revolve around you, have you been to there store, if there not doing maintenance, there taking a call or selling people stuff... its not an easy job.
Bought few fish that Can live with Betta, found all dead the next day.Went the next day, bought different fish, only to find it on the floor the next day..apparently they sell flying fish, but dont tell you that.Worst attitudeNot sure if the store is in *fish business *..
I found Manhattan Aquariums on my way to the Javitz Center one day. You can tell these people are not only knowledgeable, but truly passionate about their fish and corals. I went back the next day to buy a 55-gallon tank that beautifully separates my living and sleeping area of my studio apartment. I am so happy with my purchase - cant wait to go back and add to my collection.
I brought a fish on Friday it died on Saturday I called them Sunday because it was Saturday night and they will not warranty the fish. So now I’m out a fish the money for the fish the money I spent to take care of the fish. I would just avoid this place honestly I’ve had better experiences at Petco
Salt water fish, coral, aquarium size tanks oh my! Found this hidden gem as i made my way out to javitz. What a treat. If you are a big salt water fish aficionado or looking to start up one i would say this is the place to go to as i havnt found anything else in manhattan very similar. A wide selection of coral and and salt water tropical fish. It can get pricey but the staff is knowledgeable to get you started. They have a huge tank in the front of the store which you can stare at and meditate with tranquility.
Good variety of fish albeit a but overpriced (although somewhat understandable if its because of the cost of taking good care of fish), down a star because right in the front they sell betta bowls for $20 when bettas should be kept in a 5 gallon minimum among other needs, and that just perpetuates the lack of proper care for bettas :(
Incredible aquarium, quantity and variety of fish, corals and plants. A lot of live rock lights everything to buy I recommend although I want to go to know it because it is very good and well maintained that all aquariums have, the girl who attends speaks Spanish and helped me in all my doubts

2022-06-27I got a small water plant here which is very healthy. The owner is knowledgeable and patient to explain what are good/bad to fishes. The price of fish looks kinda expensive, but fishes are all in good condition so probably well worth it.

2018-12-21Absolutely one of the most spectacular aquarium shops in NY, perhaps all of main land US. (Dont know about Hawaii, never visited. )Their coral selection is outstanding. And I never knew, how many varieties of Clownfish, existed. The staff, are always extremely helpful, and tremendously patient.Highly recommended, at the very least a must see.Almost like visiting a zoological aquarium, completely free. They should charge an entrance fee, well worth every penny. 💜💙💜🐟🐉🐳🐚🦀Extraordinarily highly recommendedAbsolutely Like 🤙👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤙💙💜Whats not to Love, of the Motions of the Oceans. And its nearly astronomically diversity of the deeply (blue) mysterious life.

2019-07-14If you are a fish keeper this place will blow your mind. Not the largest place ever, but still super cool. Some of the fish we had never seen in person before. Kid friendly. Reasonably priced fish too. Kind service. Look for the tank in the back with the big question mark on it.

2021-07-29Manhattan Aquariums has an amazing selection of tanks and equipment. 💕 They have plenty of fish and corals to pick and choose from. 2019-10-10Bought a fish without realizing it had severe fin/tail rot. Its body became covered in white spots and its fins seemed to deteriorate the same day I purchased him. I called and asked for advice and was told there was nothing I could do, but could have a refund. Im so glad I decided to treat him anyway because after about a week he really turned into a gorgeous fish! I would shop here again, but be sure to look at the fish in detail before taking it home.

2020-08-21My husband and I have been visiting Manhattan Aquariums now for almost 8 years. I love their selection of corals, fish, fish food and anemones. The staff is great and friendly. And that Red Sea tank at the front of the store is awesome!

2021-09-10I had a good experience. Workers let me view before pouncing on me. Then asked if I needed assistance or had any questions after viewing for a bit. When I was ready the gentleman was pacient with me answered all my questions and gave alternative recommendations. I appreciated his input and honesty. They do have a lot of beautiful coral at great prices.Thank you Mahatten Aquariums you will see your blue bag return for a refill in due time!

2020-02-08This is my favorite fish store. The staff is helpful - Mike, Justina and the rest really know their stuff and they are willing to help you with any issue you have. The store and tanks are always clean which is more than you can say for other fish stores in Manhattan and NYC.
