We were a group of 5 looking to try some Indian food on a Friday night, this place was highly rated on Google so we thought of giving it a try and we did not regret.Their food is too good and reasonably priced, although there was just one guy working all the tables, he made sure our food and drinks arrived quick. They also have a live tandoor where you can see how exactly your bread gets cooked.Do check this place out if you love authentic Indian food.
What a great experience! I was new to Indian food and the waiters were so great in explaining the menu and the variety of options. I’ve never seen so many options in a menu! The food was delicious and vegetarian options were amazing. I have made reservations to go back, I highly recommend!!
Nice warm food but expensive for what it is. Also the service was odd and not pleasant. They might have a new waitstaff who is not well trained. (A common challenge after pandemic). The food did not come right away (>20min for $10 two pieces of samosa. The waitress said they were out and had to make them. It was after I was told that they do not have the lamb samosas on the menu.)
Had a nice meal here and the owner Kush is a great host and very friendly. 4.6 stars: goat biriyani and the peshawari naan 4.3 stars: saag paneer and the carrot gajar halwa dessert (It was served cold and I think its better served hot) 3.5 stars: goat vindaloo (the sauce was a bit too tomato sauce like, not quite enough Indian flavor, I wish I could describe it better but Im not familiar enough with this recipe to point out which spices were missing). We ordered the prix fixe which was overall a pretty good value.
I dined here Saturday evening and food was good, however we saw a GIANT RAT running around the dining room two times during our meal. Maybe it was two separate rats? Im not sure. They appeared within 10-15 min of each other. Needless to say, I could not eat any more after the first sighting. This is a typical occurrence with how nonchalant everyone who worked there was. Our server, who was nice, smiled and said they do all they can to keep them out. I dont know if thats true. NEVER AGAIN.
We tried couple of Indian restaurant in Manhattan and found Masala king one of the best restaurants. Veg korma was so buttery and yummy.Chicken gravy was spicy as required with soft and fresh chicken.Special thanks to Varun for attending us. Varun was so humble and helping. Worth to visit.!!
Five stars and will return again. This is a great Indian joint that my friend and I stumbled upon using Google maps. There arent many Indian restaurants around midtown so we ordered pickup from here and walked to go get it. Unfortunately it was raining and the staff was kind enough to let us eat inside. I ordered a lunchbox which was a steal, it included rice and I ordered it with chicken vindaloo and channa masala. This was all for $15 which is a great price for Manhattan. The highlight really was the extremely friendly man attending to us, Quoshik, who made sure we had everything we could possibly desire at great speed and with a huge smile. Cannot understate how happy he was to help us. Give the man a raise!
We had been here for indoor dining. The decor was nice but the music was too loud and blaring. The service was nice and pretty quick. We started off with chicken 65 which was tangy and spicy as we requested. This was followed by chicken masala(their chef specialty) and garlic shrimp bhuna with garlic naan. Both entrees were accompanied with rice. The chicken masala was okay but the garlic shrimp was mind blowing. The gravy was delicious and tasty. We finished with their saffron rasmalai which was heavenly but the portion size was tiny for $6. Overall the experience was nice. Everyone wore masks but there were no temperature checks or paper towels on the table. If they tone down the music a bit that would make the ambience more enjoyable.
This place is near Empire State Building for anyone looking for Indian authentic cuisine. We ordered Malai Kofta, Chana Masala and a Garlic Naan. The Naan was fresh and crisp, and the Chana and Malai Kofta felt as home cooked. Although a bit pricy, the ambience was great.
This place was a disaster service and management wise.1) No water and we had to ask for some. Fair enough not a big deal.2) We asked for some sprite and diet coke. Miniscule quantity in a cup filled with ice. We are charged $4 for this. We asked for a refill and they said they will charge again for it. Mind you this was from a fountain and not a fan/bottle. We stated our assumption that at least we will get a free refill and we did get a refill.3) We were not shown an itemized receipt. I had to ask to see it because the math was not adding up. BIG red flag. The price on the bill was not consistent with the price on the menu. I did not want to create a scene so I didnt say anything.4) They added a gratuity without saying anything about it (which was what did not make the math add up in the first place)In addition there are other minor things that I observed and I havent really seen in other restaurants charging this much:3) The naan and curry did not come together. We had to wait for our naan to be cooked after the curry came out.4) All the staff was wearing sweatpants. We kept on having servers switched which was kind of weird with the sweatpants thing. Two stars cause the food was honestly pretty good. This place would have become a neighborhood go-to for me if the management had its act together.
The ambience is Fine! The Food is Good! Clean restrooms. There is a Live Kitchen for the breads, which is a plus point for the customers who are new to the Indian Cuisine. The service is warm and nice. Although the lights at night are not good at all...they should change it ASAP. It was a blue lighting and it made the overall dining experience a bit lousy.
It is actually ZERO star, but no option hence 1 star. Poor service… worst product. We ordered masala tea and it was very bad and not served hot. Lemonade was also poor.Server were rude and unwelcoming. DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE. They forcefully charged 18% gratuity also, even for party of three
I would not recommend this place to anyone. We ordered 2 masala tea and 1 lemonade and everything tasted horrible. The service was extremely poor and we were charged 18% gratuity which we were told is discretionary added to whatever order the restaurant feels like. This is very unprofessional behavior.
Masala king is simply delicious and extremely authentic. There is flavors and spice in each and every bite and the chicken is always cooked perfectly.I order out almost every night (I’m a lazy cook) and I live far from Masala King but It’s worth a trip into NYC each and every time...The only place worth going for Indian food.
Excellent lunch buffet, they serve you naan on demand and the food is delicious. Exactly what you expect from a good Indian buffet. Assorted pakodas were great, 6 kinds of vegetables and 3 deserts. Plenty to variety. Keep up the good taste and qualityNote: the owner is a very nice person, talked to me a couple of times and followed up about the food quality.
*Update: I have been in correspondence with the establishment and I do believe the restaurant was caught on a bad night. I want to give this establishment another chance. The food itself was very good but the service was just not at its best that night. Give this place a chance and dont just go off my one review.Worst Valentine’s dinner ever.... originally booked a special on pulsd that promised more than the restaurant actually followed through with. First off the service was terrible. Our waitress came over to us maybe 4 times all night. She was more concerned with hanging out at a table of very loud and drunk friends I assume. Our reservation mentions we would get a rose but instead we got dead rose petals while other tables got a rose. We were supposed to get a bottles of champagne valued at $80 but instead they provided one from the deli next door for $9 (picture included). The table was broken and gross. Music is obnoxiously loud. Most of the staff wore their masks improperly. My food had aluminum pieces on it. The food was good but my girlfriend and I will never return.
Def going back. The menu is extensive with plenty of dishes I haven’t had and wanted to. So I went with one I know well, lamb korma, and one I hadn’t, garlic soup. Even though the soup came first, I can still taste it - impressive flavor intensity, without overwhelming with garlic. The korma was as good as I’ve ever had, or better because they asked how spicy I wanted it… and I love spicy …so I went full spicy. Portion was enough to completely fill me up.
Excellent experience every single time. I found this place on accident, one night, late, trying to appease my (recently injured in a car accident) husbands craving for indian. They saved the day! Then last week, another Amazing dinner, this time experiencing their out door dining. And then tonight, we went back. My business and home ate on the west side, these guys are east...we still go, its made that strong of N impression. Tonight the owner (Kush, nicest man ever) was on his own, short staffed and was a freaking magician the way he juggled everything. From greeting and seating tables, to to go orders, to bar tending, to delivering food and bussing tables, he was everywhere! And did it all with a genuine kindness and care. I own a small business, he can come work with me any time 😉This is EXACTLY the kind of small business hustle that I want to support and see survive this awful pandemic.Give Masala King your business!! The food is great and the people are greater❤️❤️
As a caribbean who is very particular and not a fan of Indian food, this restaurant changed everything for me. Everything was very fresh n pipping hot. Love when food is served nice n hot. Waiter was very accommodating. Everything was on pointtttttttt!! The garlic naan was a serious party in my tummy. Ordered 3 of them. The rice was lovely n Shelly (just means cooked to perfection; not soft/ not hard). Ohh, I ate inside very cute atmosphere. For those who are still not comfortable, don’t worry they have outdoor seating. What I liked with the seating arrangementS outside, you still have the privacy so u don’t feel like people on sidewalk is over you while eating or feel like you are being watched by people in their car. Highly recommend trust me you will love ❤️ it
I stopped in to get takeout today and it was LIFE CHANGING. For $16 I got a huge portion and the food was so delicious. I got Lunch Box #3, with goat curry, saag paneer, lentils, basmati rice, and made to order naan, along with three big samosas. Would totally come again for the buffet lunch ($15), as the selection looked fresh and varied. Cute bar and a really sleek, clean interior.
Ive had dosas in many places. I believe dosas are supposed to be crispy even though the sizes are small. There is a place in flushing which is very famous for dosas and their sizes are small too but their dosas are very crispy. Im sorry to say but I was little disappointed with the dosa.I was really impressed with the tomato chutney which came with dosa because it was flavorful. However, the other chutney (coconut chutney) wasnt really good and I felt like it wasnt really fresh.Overall, excellent service and beautiful interior.
Got a Pulsd deal for dinner for 2 after confirming available reservation times on their website. Made a reservation for 9:15 pm. Got an email confirming that reservation. Showed up at 9:17. They said last seating is at 9, kitchen is closed. I am hungry and disappointed.
Ordered several entrees, appetizers and extras, got delivered by Uber eats. Approximately half the order was missing, and the rest was wrong. Called the restaurant several times with no answer, left messages with no call back. If youre vacationing in NY , they figure your not ordering from them again and simply dont care.
Im not sure why this restaurant is rated so high on Yelp & Google. The food was ordinary, the curries were bitter tasting, Gobi Manchurian was sour with very few pieces and pricey. We found a plastic piece in our rice!! The owner instead of apologizing, gave an explanation that it came from the rice bag as if it was perfectly normal. We were terrified thinking what would have happened if it got stuck in our 7-year olds throat. The owner had a callous attitude and no regard for customer service. I strongly recommend staying away from this place.
The food here is the best Indian food I had in a while! I recommend this place to all of my friends! I hope everyone can have the chance to stop by and try the food! The service here is incredible, especially Brooke. The owner Kush as well is one of the nicest people I have ever met!
I had a wonderful meal yesterday afternoon at Masala King. The food was great - fresh and light. When taking your order, they ask how you want your food seasoned, mild, medium or hot, and it is prepared accordingly. I eat lamb about once a year and the lamb saag was melt in your mouth tender. The service was great. Overall an excellent afternoon repast.
This is the top Indian kitchen in NYC. Food consistently will make your toes curl & your taste buds elevate. Not a joke. I’ve eaten/ordered from there more than 60 times. I got several fraud alerts because of this. Obviously, all false alarms. This cuisine is nuts & all of your guests & family will agree.
I had a reservation for 12 pm. When we arrived on time the staff wasn’t ready yet. They asked us to sit outside in their outdoor dining structure in the 90 degree heat. They didn’t offer water or anything while we waited. Ten minutes later they sat us inside but the AC was not on. They turned it on and eventually it cooled down. The food took 20 minutes to arrive after we ordered it. We were the only ones in the restaurant. It tasted good but there was hardly any attention from the staff. When we asked for the bill the waitress came with a device and told us the total. We had to ask for an itemized view which was only accessible from her device. She announced the 18% tip which we reluctantly paid given the sparse service. All around it was a poor experience and would encourage others to look elsewhere.
What a wonderful surprise! We had dinner last Friday and everything from menu to service was perfect. Several options and including vegetarian and vegan alternatives. Food was well prepare (pakora was fried perfectly), tasty and serve in a beautiful way. Will come back to try other options
Ordered the samosa chaat, which was so delicious and full of flavours/spice.Next had the butter chicken, again lovely and delicious however it could have been a little more spicier as requested. The service was spot on and it was lovely to see not all good has to be bland in the big Apple!!!
A very good fine dining option for Indian food in NYC. We had dal makhani and would compare it to the best we get back in India itself. Planning to come back for more meals.Staff was very friendly, good ambience and most importantly - clean / well maintained restroom.
We were in Manhattan for the weekend and were in the mood for Indian food. Called to see if we needed a reservation but they said just come on in. Oh my goodness are we glad we did!! We got the Masala King Deal with Vegetable Samosas and Chicken Tikka Masala which came with rice and naan and Vegetable Pakoras to share and it was around $30. Everything tasted so amazing. The tikka was flavorful with just the right amount of heat, the pakoras and samosas come with a flavorful mint and tamarind chutney, the naan was fresh and warm. It was just the right amount of food and so yummy. The service was great too. So friendly and accommodating, we felt like we were at a friend’s house for dinner. Great food, great service, great prices…will be back anytime we visit Manhattan in the future. If you love amazing Indian cuisine, Masala King is a must!!
Menu options are plenty and serving size is appropriate in comparison to price. However, go elsewhere if you want authentic, flavorful Indian food. It was palatable because we were hungry, but we would not choose to dine a second time. The atmosphere is also loud (music blaring from speakers) and they do not disclose (until the end) that an 18% dining fee is automatically charged to your card. Not a huge deal given the current climate, but a sign or heads up would have been nice.
Just finished eating dinner. We ordered food from Masala King. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and they delivered butter chicken. Chicken pieces were so hard and unchewable. Dal makhni was bitter. Naan was burnt. We ordered the food by looking the rating but very disappointed.
TRY THIS restaurant.Words cannot express to you how amazing this restaurant is. I’m a college student and as a result it’s hard for me to find time to cook. This restaurant provides me with homemade food on a daily basis. I’m also a vegetarian so it’s really hard for me to find dishes that are without meat. The vegetarian dishes in this restaurant are literally amazing. Every single dish that I’ve tried in this restaurant has made me cry from happiness. I don’t know who is cooking behind the scenes but whoever they are they are doing an amazing job. The food tastes like a grandmother who cooked food for their grandchildren. It tastes like it was made with love. It taste like home. It taste like love. If love had a taste the food in this restaurant will taste like it...The food is always fresh. Always delicious. Always hot. It even tastes really good when you microwave it 1-2 days later! It is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever tried! It is also in my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time. Not just top five Indian restaurants but top five restaurants in the city!If you love food come eat here. You won’t regret it!-COREY
Decent food, and okay service. Their dine-in is too loud (disco style music blaring at full blast), and the outside dining area is too cold and noisy. Food was good, big portions, but you can’t substitute naan for rice (odd for an Indian restaurant). Also, they automatically add tip to your total. Overall, an okay experience.
Where do I begin!!!! If youre looking for a brain aneurysm this is your place. The entire restaurant is covered in glitter walls that looks like my 3yr old niece did her arts and crafts project. Random fake flowers hanging from the ceiling. My head still hurts from the staring at that dam glitter wall. This place is completely disorganized and a mess. Now the food, once again my 3yr old niece will make a better naan and butter chicken. Butter chicken tasted like ketchup and yogurt. It was horribly sweet. Masala Curry was nasty. Had no flavor or taste. Not to mention the silverware this place gives you to eat with is just plain stupid. The spoon doest even pick up rice. Plates are these ridiculous looking shapes thats not practical for food to fit. Honestly I would have overlooked everything if this restaurant offered a decent meal. My honest advise to the chef/owners and rude waitress wearing her nighttime Pajamas 2pm in the afternoon is PLEASE QUIT AND STAY HOME ****** HOT MESS EXPRESS****
Was here on a business lunch with another colleague, just two of us. Lunchtime service was unprofessional. Place was empty but service was off. Had to ask for a spoon and other utensils. The lady and guy were flirting around. Asked for bill that didnt come. Tip was added automatically, we had no clue how many % it was. Food tasted good though.
AMAZING DINNER!Had a wonderful dinner here tonight with my colleague Melanie. The restaurant was clean and classy. The service was amazing. We had the pleasure of having Juliette as our lovely waitress. She was sweet, kind and her service was incredible. She took very good care of us from the time we walked in to the time we left. The food was incredible, well presented and impeccably cooked. I challenged to make my dish as hot as possible, they did well but I want them to push it harder next time. We were finished of by a complementary dessert and drink which was not expected but much appreciated. We were able to meet an owner/manager Kush who was a fine gentleman and a fellow Chamber member in the city. Him and his team were great, the treated us like royalty and cooked even better. Great place! As a NYC foodie, highly recommended! Thanks Kush and Juliette we will be back for sure!
Food was amazing, no complaints there! The problem was me and another person ate $60 worth of food and was charged $90 (that makes it 50% in taxes, tips and whatever else they charged...idk). We only found out after checking our bank activity online. Had to call the restaurant to get it sorted out. A friend who ate with us had the same problem too. Manager blamed the new system so if youve ate there recently I suggest you check your bank activities. Its not the money I care about but it is getting cheated that I do not like.
Awesome! The food is amazing and the service is fantastic! There are so many Indian restaurants in the city but what you get here for the price is far superior. I found them because of the amazing lunch buffet and decided to walk in. I wasnt expecting much from the buffet for such a low price but boy was I surprised. Incredible food and phenomenal service! You just cant get that anywhere in the city!
We ordered delivery from this restaurant yesterday. I don’t know if they were having an off night, but apart from the bhel poori, which was very mediocre, the food was inedible. My husband took one bite of his chicken vindaloo and spit it out. It tasted fishy / shrimpy. My chicken curry had a very musky flavor and the meat tasted off. Everything was extremely oily. Even the naan was raw in the middle. It was a waste of money and the food ended up in the garbage. This is up there as some of the most expensive Indian food I have had, especially for a simple curry and vindaloo chicken dish (and I live in NYC), as well as the most inedible. Save your money, avoid this place !
Don’t be fooled! I clearly ordered “Aloo Paratha” which traditionally is made whole wheat (‘Atta’) flour that is stuffed with spicy potato filling and that is sautéed in butter, ghee, or oil. What instead I got was a stuffed Naan bread with hardly any potato filling at all….! Honestly, I’d rather just stick to my mom’s cooking..This place is such a rip off, being of South Asian decent myself, I feel sorry for the tourists who seek authentic Indian/Pakistani cuisine….my advice, restaurants at the corner of Lexington Ave or ‘Curry Hill’ has way better quality, and for a true authentic experience, the mom and pops takeaway spots or ‘dhabas’ in Jackson Heights, Queens such as ‘Deira’ or ‘Taste of Lahore’…!
Not sure where people are eating Indian food that that this place has so many great reviews. Goes to show how deceptive reviews can be. The food is just average and fairly bland. It’s a weird place that looks dark and dingy when you go inside. It seems like it wants to be a club or hookah bar. There’s more authentic food on lex.
Me and my girlfriend had a mediocre experience at Masala King. The way it looks on the outside makes it seem like its not open. You have to enter through a boarded up door. The waiter was very nice, but the service was a bit shaky. When we ordered drinks, it took my girlfriend 10 minutes to get her drink after me. Our waiter apologized and said they were still cleaning up from the night before, but why open if you are not ready? Even though no one was in the restaurant, it took us about 30 minutes to get the food.Thankfully, the food was fresh and a perfect portion for brunch. I indulged myself in a chicken tikka masala lunch, while my girlfriend had a salmon tikka masala lunch with eggs. It was affordable too.During the meal, our waiter did not check on us. I had to call him over each time for more water. When we went to pay, the waiter handed me the credit card machine and walked away. We had to wait 10 minutes for him to come back in order to leave. I only recommend this place if there is an improvement with the service.
I was at Masala King for the first time today for lunch. Pleasantly surprised from the moment I walked in to the end of my meal. Kush the owner greeted me with a smile and even offered me a cool drink while I waited for my order. I was in a bit of a hurry so I let him guide me and went 100% off his reco. Could not be happier with my selection and the quality of food. The best Indian I have had in a very long time now and my wife and I consider ourselves huge foodies. Chicken tikka misala and veggie samosa were on point!! Check this place out, you will not regret it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The food is pretty good. The atmosphere is very calming. Good for quick buffet meal in the morning, the tandoor is really good at this place. I would give them a 5 star if they considered changing the flooring a bit. Overall, the place is pretty good including the staff. You would not regret getting a meal at this place. Try out Masala King.
We’ve been to this restaurant 2.5yrs ago and it was awesome. Owner was very jolly and food was great! This time we went with same hopes but were really disappointed. Food was ok. Panner shashlik was good. Pathetic service. Waitress was least interested in doing her job.. and when asked for the cheque, 18% gratuity was added stating that its a restaurant policy ( we were just 2 people with a total bill of $54).
PULSD USERS BEWARE: This place charged an extra $24 on top of the $40 brunch deal they ran last weekend. They charged $8/person as a Pulsd brunch gratuity, along with an extra $8 Pulsd tax (NOT the NYC tax, which was then placed on top of the $24 they charged, bringing the total to $26.13). Their payment system then steered us into an additional tip, which brought our total to $31.36. ON TOP OF THE $40 WE PAID PULSD.Doing the math, our food, along with the bottomless mimosas we got with the Pulsd deal would have been a subtotal of $55. Using the Pulsd deal and getting charged these extra fees and tips, we ended up paying $70.I contacted Pulsd after encountering this issue, and they said theyd discuss this incident with the restaurant. I reached out to the restaurant twice before posting this review to try to get some remedy from them, and they still havent gotten back to me.Add to all of this that the kitchen was incredibly slow, one of our plates came out over 15 minutes after the first one (it was pancakes -- how can you not time those well?). I got the salmon tikka and eggs, and the kitchen also forgot to send the potatoes that came with it. The salmon portion was minuscule at best, just 4 small cubes of fish about the size of matchbox each. Definitely not worth paying $20 for. The bombay pancakes were $16 for 2 pancakes (ours was missing the turkey bacon as well); Ill let you decide if you think thats horrendously overpriced or not.I will say, our server was very kind, and the food we did get was flavorful when we eventually got it in its small portion.Overall, Id recommend avoiding this place unless you want to leave in a sour mood for one or more problems youll inevitably encounter.
This place is very unorganised. I placed an order online and upon arrival they couldn’t find it even though I placed through their website and received order confirmation as well as confirmation order was complete. They said they can have the food ready in 15 min so I waited. It was closer to an hour. I ordered lamb and they gave me chicken. The food was mediocre there’s so many better Indian food places. A big disappointment overall save your money
This has to be one of the best indian restaurants I have visited in NYC so far.Everything, from service, decor, food, and the general vibe at this restaurant was excellent. The servers were on point and very responsive. It wasnt as busy as I thought the restaurant would be.The food was just perfect. From appetizers to the main dishes and desserts, I couldnt complain about anything. Hope they keep this up and I am definitely visiting again.Definitely recommended to everyone.Try their Manchurians.. yum!!
I understand this is Manhattan but this place is highway robbery I have never seen a restaurant charging people for chutney they where charging $5 for a onion chutney the size of a very small bowl and the drink sizes were like less then half a can $8 for a mango lassi the size of probably those small water bottles u get at like soccer games and the meat platter was $18 and it was literally three pieces of three different types of meat and one meat samosa and u could barely feed one person over all would not recommend to anyone and I will never come back again we ordered 3 apps and 2 sprites and a mango lassi it’s was $89
Best samosas I’ve ever had in my life. They’re made of chickpea flour so they’re gluten free too! I found this place on Seated and was expecting just a regular Indian food place, but I was so pleasantly surprised. Everything was delicious. I wish I lived closer so I could come all the time!Edit—-I have returned a few times since my initial review and the quality of the ingredients has definitely gone down, potentially in an attempt to keep costs down. I wouldn’t even bother ordering the samosas any more. The dough is a different consistency and I don’t think they’re made of chickpea flower anymore, even though they told us they were. My fiancé is gluten intolerant and got sick after we had them the last time.
Masala King is one of the best if not the best Indian Restaurants in the midtown area. The food is scrumptious and delicious. More than that the food is affordable. Perfect combination great food for a great price. If you have never had Indian food or you are not sure what dishes to try I would suggest you try their weekly buffet which is every day from 1pm - 4pm. This will give you a chance to try their many dishes for a low price of $14.99.
Masala King is KING!!! I love this place! The food, comfort and service? Exquisite. They are professional, clean and personable. No matter your protein, the food is delicious. I love their naan, vindaloo and tikka masala . If you want authentic Indian food that is comforting food andflavorful , there is nowhere else to go.
I enjoy Indian food, and am quickly turning into a regular customer at Masala King. The food is quite simply delicious.Tandoori Chicken is a favorite of mine and it was prepared perfectly. Lamb saag was spiced to my preference and the portions are plentiful. All of the people are friendly and helpful. The decor is modern, and warm, and very clean. A very delightful experience.
My fiancé and I recently ordered from Masala King on DeliveryZero and thought that the food was absolutely delicious. This was our first time ordering from here and they did not disappoint. The delivery did take longer than most places, but truly the food made up for it! We will be ordering again!
Ambience: good; not great. Clean restroom in midtown is a huge plus. Food is so so; nothing to write home about. I had the pre fixe menu. The drink was atrocious. That alone was worth a star. The dish wasnt properly spiced (no, not hot. Spice meaning all the spices that give the unique flavor to Indian cuisine). The appetizer was the saving grace. Presentation is superb, which is relevant only if you are going for the company of your dining partner; it does not make up for lackluster food. The price seems high for the taste of food. One key piece of info: it labeled itself as serving comfort food. Its far from it.
What a relaxing dining experience! The food is fresh and absolutely delicious!Pleasant staff and decor. Be sure to catch the buffet at a reasonable price on weekdays between the hours of 11am and 3pm and be blessed!Even the music is relaxing Don’t miss this treat. Near major transportation too! Thank you Marsala for a taste of IndiaYour trulyRev. Anna
This was my 1st time having Indian food and it was amazing. Starting at the service I received which was 10 star. This wonderful restaurant serves some of the best food I’ve ever experienced. The flavors were beyond great, all fresh made, since I wasn’t familiar with the food the 1st visit he suggested the butter chicken, omg the flavors were so amazing. Tonight he suggested I try the lamb chops Marsala. Another 10+. I wish I could take this restaurant along with its staff back home to Oregon with me. I can tell you that my next trip to NY my 1st stop will be to Marsala King.❤️
We just had the most wonderful meal at masala king. we have been to several indian restaurants recently and by far this was the best! everything from start to finish was delicious! from the perfectly light and fluffy garlic nan, the yummy appetizers, lick to the last drop chicken tikka masala and my absolute newest favorite garlic shrimp bhuni. the food is directed by the owner’s mother, so full of flavor and care. the restaurant hosted by kush, her son who couldn’t be more gracious and welcoming. already looking forward to our next meal!
Hands down the Best Indian Restaurant in all of New York City! This coming from a fellow chef and a food connoisseur! The quality of food and amazingly balanced tasty food is super consistent and truely sumptuous! And not to mention the rates!!! Super affordable in Manhattan. I eat there almost every day as they are closer to my work. Family run businesses are the best. Their owner is always there and super friendly. Im so glad a found this place!
We had a group event that for lunch. The lunch buffet was very nice, especially considering the number of choices(especially vegetarian), the fact that they had seafood, dessert, and Salad, and the PRICE! Staff was very friendly and helpful, the owner came to greet us and checked on the table time to time. I would recommend the Indian restaurant!
The best Indian food in New York! And the best tandoori dishes anywhere! Sharif (the tandoor chef) is one of a kind. We havent had this good Indian food - even in Bangalore! The atmosphere is serene and the melding aromas of every dish at every table give Masala King a feeling that transports you. Well go back often and we recommend it to everyone who loves Indian cuisine and culture.
Just a step above other Indian restaurants Ive eaten at! We had so many entrées and they were all delicious. The tandoori entrées were so obviously done in the clay oven. Its just a special flavor. You could see where the flames seared the chicken. There was so much attention to detail in all the dishes. Everything was very fresh. We were all very impressed!
My favorite Indian food in the city! My most ordered dish is Chicken vindaloo, very spicy and tasty, absolutely love it!! Lunch buffet really great too, I went there for buffet and dine in with my coworkers serveral times. Great experiences. There are variety of dishes to choose from for lunch buffet and naan bread is sooo good! Very very friendly staff and welcoming dining environment! I order take away for lunch all the time, never fail me. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to any one likes Indian food.
Absolutely the right place to go for great Indian food... very nice flavours, fragrances, taste and great portion size. Ambience can be slightly better but place is not crowded so that’s great. Service in low pressure time was very good and the staff went out of their way to make it memorable.
Taste was very authentic , Restrooms were clean and service was excellent.I am from Mumbai and the butter chicken taste was similar to the ones we have back home.Butter naan was excellent and overall quantity is more than you would expect.A nice place for Indians or people who love Indian food visiting downtown New York to lunch or dine in between shopping or sightseeing.
The best Indian food I’ve had in New York. Lunch buffet and dinner are both super delicious. The customer service is on point and they really take care of their guests. I’ve been here with many different friends and they’ve all loved the place and ambiance. Definitely recommend!
I went for the buffet lunch ($16 Aug2019). It was very good and I was full. They even had complimentary naan and a free chicken drumstick (that looked baked in a tandoori oven). Also a salad (reasonably made) & dessert (didn’t try—I’m on an ostensible diet).Including free mango chutney (instead of a $2 surcharge), and other spices.
I am just surprised who are those 316 people who gave it 4.4 rating. Completely disappointed. The malayia chicken is everything but like malaiya it should be soft. We ordered chicken tikka masala and the meat was like rubbery and hard to chew. Told the waiter and they went to make it again. The chicken Baryani was good though. Too pricy but the food quality is horrible.
I’ve ordered from this restaurant throughout Covid. I am from delhi. Dilliwala. and I must say that this place has the most authentic Indian flavors of any Indian restaurant in Manhattan. It is at par with the best you get in jersey city. I’ve stopped taking the path to go to mithas or Bikaner wala in jersey city because these guys are just as good. Their best - malai kofta, eggplant bharta, chola bhatura, and the chana chaat. 100% recommended.
I came in for a quiet dinner on Monday and ordered my favorite chicken madras and wanted to give a try with a new rice dishes. Table service was excellent except that I was constantly hearing one of the chefs shouting at the waitress. It turned into a big disaster when he started yelling and quarreling with the service staff the whole time i was there. Honestly the madras chicken which I am used to eating in London was more like a coconut chicken curry. The Kashmiri pulau was no close to what I had many times before but rice soaked in milk and canned fruit cocktail was okay..
I don’t understand why this place got more than 4 stars on google . I decided to visit this place after seeing good reviews on google.I ordered Gobi Manchurian in the appetizer , it was nothing like gobi Manchurian , it was more like gobi sabzi . Main course was decent but the dessert was the worst . I asked for rasmalai but my server suggested gajar halwa since they didn’t have rasmalai . Then I could see server going inside , grabbing gajar halwa box from the fridge and warming up in microwave . Nobody visits a restaurant to eat some old food warmed up in a microwave. It was horrible in taste as well , can say that it was the worst gajar halwa I ever had in my life . When I asked for the check , they already had added 18% tip in it , that’s totally insane to pay that much tip even if you don’t like food . I will not recommend this place at all , there are many other better Indian restaurants in Lexington Ave .
Support our family operated restaurant we remain resolved to providing intensely delicious flavorful fare prepared with intense safety precautions through the covid crisis. we need you to stay afloat through these trying times. we offer each a discount through beyondmenu.com as they charge us the lowest delivery platform rates. we appreciate you infinitely.
Ordered on seamless and then got a text that my order was cancelled because the restaurant is closed. The cancellation was never sent to seamless. I had to argues with Seamless who tried to call the restaurant to get my money back. If you are not open, why are you taking orders from Seamless and not cancelling/refunding the money you take?
Hard to believe this is rated so high on google ..Coz food was totally unauthentic. Their chefs special dish - Methi malai mutter .. has literally no methi in it and tasted like sugar syrup . Worst one could have had! . Same also true for their signature drink - green mango juice ... seems being made from some powder and not real green mango.Service was horrible from delays in getting seated to taking order to delivery to check. Even simple request for a drink without ice was hard for them to accomplish!Only positive , its quite cheaper than expected. But if food quality matters to you then this is not ideal spot .
STAY AWAY! I wish google allowed negative ratings. The establishment and manager are cheats and there to fleece customers and especially tourists not aware of the tipping culture in the US . On the check, a gratuity of 20% was already added, and number of guests in the check was 4 (we were only a party of 3). On questioning the manager, he says this is what the system prints, i cannot do anything. On pointing out the number of guests is 4 rather than 3, he says this is the rule. I ask him to show me the menu card and where it says this (most US restaurants which charge a compulsory gratuity for a party of 4 or more clearly say so). At that point he stops contesting and goes and fetches a bill he had already printed with the correct amount. Clearly they are out to rob unsuspecting tourists. I dont even have space to mention, how lousy the food and service were without this review becoming too lengthy. Dont go here. This is NY. Plenty of other awesome places to go and eat.
Food was good but the service not so compared to the service charge that was added to bill especially after they had charged for an item that had not been served. Advertised as a bar but no draught beer. A little bit expensive compared to other meals we have had during our stay in N.Y..
I went there for the first time on Friday for a Chicken Tikka Marsala with rice plate. I saw that there were other Indian stores that were not too far but this was the closest on 34th Street btwn Park & Madison (closer to Park). I went in and wasnt sure where to go until I heard a voice ask how he could help from behind a bar. When it was my turn, I scanned the MP app on my phone (discounted lunches in the city) and the gentleman handed me my bag of food. I saw that there was a lot of sauce but it was hiding a lot of pieces of chicken. They also gave me a lit of rice, which I enjoy. The food was enjoyable. The rice was pretty bland but complimented the sauce really well. The sauce was not an overly seasoned sauce, which was good. I ate every last bite and used the naan bread to stop of the rest of the sauce (well most of it, there was a lot). I would go back for another meal.
Let me save you some grief. We visited this place for a lunch buffet after prior calling and confirming the menu. When we entered the place there was another family of 4 thats it. The samosas were over and never refilled. They instead placed pakoras which were either burnt or half cooked. The batter on it was not cooked. The tandoori chicken was served on the table and it was half cooked. The meat was pink and rubbery. The owners response was that I was the first person to complain. We sent back 3 plates of tandoori. When we asked the waitress for it, she rudely replied do you want it cooked or not.The chicken tikka was like turmeric, chilli powder, salt and chicken in tomato puree. When asked the owner about it, his response was the chef is from Oberoi. The bowl for desert could hardly hold 1 gulab jamoon and that also they could not keep it available. There was 1 which was not washed. The owner said it must have been placed there by a customer. Then he made a passing comment to the waitress that only Indians need bowl for the dessert.Overall a very sad experience.
The service and food are outstanding. Do not be fooled by low rating reviews. Food is very authentic. Read the review about the raita thingy. I was there picking my food up too and i did see how those 2 gentleman were behaving. Raita is given with biryani and they wanted more which definitely any restaurant will charge. This place is a must try. Kudos to the chef and service staff.

2022-08-04My first Indian food experience, and I’m glad I had it here. We were greeted as we entered, menu is online and they took our order timely . Really great customer service. We ordered chicken samosas for starters , it was amazing. I had the waiter choose an option for me, we had shrimp curry too. The garlic Naan bread , as well as the butter. The whole experience was amazing

2022-08-31The chicken tikka masala and the coconut curry shrimp were amazing. The garlic naan and the samosas were outstanding. 100% recommended for traditional and delicious Indian food. For reference, we got the “medium” sauces and they weren’t spicy at all. Would recommend to order the spicy ones if you’re into that. Loved this places ❤️

2022-07-30Had dinner here. Its a cozy place walking distance from herald sqaure/Macy. We had veg pakora, daal, bbq platter and gula jamun. The food is tasty, daal was really good. Spice are on higher side for our taate though we asked medium. The service was attentive. The matter was surprising that we were not shown the bill but was confirmed verbally and then we were asked to pay, so didnt knew what amount of tip included which should be at customer discretion. This was being done with all (saw another table customer also astonished) and should be changed, as customer bill should be shown. This was not expected and didn’t like/understood (rating3.5)

2022-09-01I had high hopes from the place, but it came up much low on my expectations. I ordered Samosa chat, daal makhani rice and kheer. To begin with Samosa chat had bad chic peas and it felt as it was already slimy in taste, means they were not very fresh boiled or soaked. Then with daal makhani and rice I had a similar taste, as if the legumes, daal were too soaked or not fresh. I also managed to save one of my molars as I got. Very hard substance to chew on. Must be a stone or some unground spice. Lastly the kheer, I wish I took something else. Because kheer was overtly sweet. Truly - I wont recommend this place unless you have now where else to be. I paid by credit card, and was charged a 3.5% over and above all. Their printed menu prices are wrong, as I asked for printed menu, because I could not scan and use their online menu due to no internet. They dont have wifi either to support.

2022-01-04My bf and I came here on Christmas eve. Kush was out server and host and was so pleasant. The drinks were delicious. The garlic soup was AMAZING!!! I had the lamb and my bf had the chicken curry. He hasnt explored too much Indian food so that was a good start and he LOVED it. Would definitely recommend!

2021-12-13An average experience with over priced items. Ordered biryanis for lunch. Rice was undercooked, taste was OK and serving size is too less to justify the price. Also, they will add the 18% tip by default (seen this with some other restaurants in the area, which I dont think is right)

2022-05-11The food was decent but the integrity of the waiters staff is questionable. Upon completion of dinner the staff bring the credit card reader to your table. Quote you one price and automatically select the widest tip option.. When you call them out, they say its their policy to charge 25% for party of two. You have to be careful if you are not requesting the bill as they will charge you for the tip and you will likely pay them more not realizing their trick. I hope the management teaches them good conduct and ethics. This happened today after the owner left and we were the last patrons.

2022-05-22Delicious would be an understatement. The food and ambience is 5 star. Service is 5 star. The lamb, chicken samosas & curry shrimp were delicious. My hubby & I can’t wait to go back & bring friends/family. Authentic Indian cuisine.
