This is one of the best places I’ve ever been to to share good drinks and music with good friends. As the home to Gamecock nation in NYC, it delivered on my trip to the NCAA NYC Regional Finals in 2017. The atmosphere was on time. They know their clientele and how to treat them. Even if you aren’t a Gamecocks fan you’ll find good food, good drinks, and a great time at reasonable prices. And if you walk in during the NCAA tournament and ask them to turn off Dawn Staley’s top ranked Lady Gs… well that’s on you for being out of touch.
Going to the Mason Jar in the middle of NYC is soooo awesome!! I love NYC and everything it has to offer but there’s something about this southern oasis in the middle of it all that makes it so great. Of course being a Gamecock fan makes going there even better! But regardless the staff is friendly, the drinks are great and the food is good too!! Can’t wait to go back
Mason Jar is by far my favorite bar in NYC. The service is great, food is delicious, and you can meet gamecock alumni from all over! It’s my go to place for South Carolina sports. And what’s more, they don’t give in to people who think South Carolina Women’s Basketball is not important enough to be on TV. we love Mason Jar!!!!
My friend and I made a reservation for a Friday evening. When we got there, there seemed to be only 1 poor woman who was answering the phone, seating people, taking orders, bringing out food, bussing tables, and operating the cash register. Needless to say service was meh, but I dont think there was much more this individual could do.The BBQ was good, but nothing special. I tried the pulled pork, the ribs, and the brisket. The brisket was the best of the 3. The ribs definitely were not cooked long enough to be tender. I think the best food item was the cornbread.
This is a great place to come and enjoy a relaxing meal or to go and have a drink with friends. The giant pretzel was the perfect appetizer but could be an entire meal for 2 people (with small appetites). I dont eat alot of bread so I was full of half the pretzel. The environment is very laid back during the day but I could see the sports bar and hang out at night as well. We had the pretzel, their brisket player and their short ribs grilled cheese. These were all amazing and filling.
Awesome bartenders and omg the food, Im not sure if I loved my chicken sandwich or margarita more. Ill definitely be back to try more drinks and dishes. The vibe is sports bar like, upbeat and had good music and packed out completely on a Thursday! Its a bit pricier than my usual Thursday happy hour dives so Id prob only come in for dinner or a drink or two. Also I wish the drinks came in mason jars but they do decorate with them so I guess hence the name lol in any case I loved, if you nearby stop in for a drink!
Went here for lunch and got the BBQ tasting platter with cornbread and mac & cheese. Meat was dry and mostly tasteless (all three), didnt care for the mac either. Cornbread was very good. Service was friendly but slow. If youre in this area and want this, you want to be going to either a Korean place, or Hill Country.
The experience I had here was horrible. I have gone there a few times before but never experience the things that I did like today. I entered the restaurant and no one acknowledge me as a customer even though there wasn’t anyone line up. Secondly, the waiter who delivers the complimentary water gave my friend and me dirty glasses. You would think with COVID and all they would take precaution and make sure that everything was cleaned. They took a while to take our orders and didn’t acknowledge us that much when we needed anything. When our food finally arrived there was an ant crawling on the grilled sandwich. A brunette waitress came over and ask “if we were doing okay?” with a fake smile and then she turned and walked away and rolled her eyes. When it was time for us to leave we had to wait almost 20 minutes to be acknowledged to get our check. I have plenty of reasons why I think this was more than it seemed to be as being the only black customers we were overlooked and dismissed. This restaurant needs to learn about unconscious bias. I recommend individuals to think twice about coming to this place because it is not it.
Amazing staff and atmosphere, the host named max was Amazing, funny and made my date very memorable. He was funny and all of his suggestions and recommendations were on point. The owner was also present, he was very down to earth and so friendly that it was hard to believe him. Overall 6 stars experience for my girlfriend and I.
I went here a couple weekends ago after waking up, incredibly hungover from the night before (long story 😩). So needless to say, I NEEDED some grease, fat, carbs to soak up the liquor that was bathing my brain. I looked up some brunch spots on Google and Instagram and came across Mason Jar. For me, it was the pulled pork egg rolls that sold me almost instantly! I also saw that they had pulled pork Benedict! Super exciting things happening here. I called in and placed my order and the woman who took it was super kind.I go to pick up my order, and the restaurant was interesting. I almost felt like I was in the south...in a bad way, like, I felt like a black man in the wrong neighborhood. Not that this is their intention in any way, it’s just what I felt. Weird because it’s smack dab in midtown Manhattan. Anyway, I pay and pick up my order. The pulled pork egg rolls were incredible. Not as crispy as I’ hoped, but that pulled pork was seasoned and flavored very well! The bbq sauce was divine! Nice and sweet and tangy, and loaded with what I’m pretty sure were the seeds of cucumbers. They added a nice texture to the sauce. It was done right! It’s funny because I also ordered the pulled pork eggs Benny, and the pulled pork that was served with it, didn’t have as much flavor as the pulled pork in the egg rolls. Perhaps it was different. The eggs Benny was still well done and I enjoyed it.Overall, I had a good experience at Mason Jar.
Place is legendary. Manager here is Brian, he is a class act. I grew up in a family business (cafes) and was impressed with his service.Food is delicious, burgers, ribs are high end and very filling. The fries are incredible, and come pre seasoned. Happy hour special is daily and everyday of the week they have a different deal. Monday evening they have .25 cent wings..Anyway, I approve, Ive been coming here at least three times a week for 9 months. My co workers come here for happy hour as they have live music and darts upstairs
Found this place looking for a nice brunch option for my first time in NYC friend and Mason Jar was amazing. Staff was polite, friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Their deviled eggs with salad were a nice take. Shrimp & Grits reminded me of my last trip to New Orleans, everything cooked perfectly and flavors were so on point! If youre looking for great plaves in the midst of COVID check out Mason Jar!
Please at the very least buy ground beef season it, grill it, throw it in a pan, skillet, pot, anything really, sear it. Buying frozen patties and cooking that is absolutely deplorable. Specify what kind of bacon you are using. Smh.Edit: I am very sorry Brian. I was trying to rate another burger bar with the title Mason in it. Im sorry you received the brunt of my displeasing. I will still love to buy your burger out and change my review.
I have previously ordered from here and the food was good. I tried ordering from their website rather than grubhub and it was a waste of $55.00. I was told the order would take an hour. At the hour and 40 minute mark I called to check and was assured the delivery guy had just picked it up and would be right over. At the two hour mark, I called again to cancel and was told I cant cancel with them over the phone because they didnt take the order, even though the confirmation email says to do just that. I definitely wont order from them again, but if you do, I suggest you do not use their website.
Went for brunch. Got the Egg, Brisket, home fries, bacon and toast breakfast along with pulled pork egg roll appetizer. The home fries and bacon were the best part of the breakfast. Unfortunately the scrambled eggs and brisket were barely warm. The brisket was overly dry and salty, which was a big disappointment for me because I LOVE brisket done properly. The small side salad served alongside the pulled pork egg rolls was excellent with a very tasty dressing. The rolls themselves were pretty good.Service and atmosphere were very good.Overall a 2.5 or 3 out of 5
Visited for a corporate event during Pride. The service was excellent, with a great variety of drinks available on tap, and the provided meatball buffet delicious. I cant speak to their regular menu, but if its anything like the lunch we had, I will highly recommend it!
Definitely coming here again for my southern breakfast. My friends and I came here for Pride Fest and my friends birthday, and it was amazing. I had the shrimp and grits (the flash messed up the photo) and it tasted just almost like my grandmas cooking. The bottomless mimosas are perfect, not watered down and juuust strong enough to walk straight after. The waiters and owners are very nice too, they gave us beads for the celebration! Coming again the next time I go to the village!!
I adore this spot! They give first-rate dishes, their menu is large, The cook in that restaurant is a specialist, I enjoy a lot eating all their food. The food is always of high class, the attitude towards the clients is agreeable. I often eat in this restaurant and I was never unhappy. Highly recommended.
This is by FAR the greatest place in the NYC area to order some Fried Chicken. The Mac And Cheese is legendary and the butter that they provide for your Texas toast or jalapeno corn bread should have a reddit page of loyal fans for it. This place is just absolutely amazing and I recommend it highly to all people who are hungry.
Came here for lunch on a weekday. When we visited it was very quiet, we were one of only two tables with customers. They do a great lunch special which we went for, and the price of that was really a good deal. There were some interesting beers on tap too and I wish wed had more time to sample a few of those. The meats were good, but on the time of our visit the bread rolls that were used for the sandwiches were very dry and on the verge of stale. Everything else was good and the waitress was really helpful. Just a shame about the bread rolls as that was the difference for the 4 stars versus 5.
I admire this place! They have great meals, their menu is large, The cook in that place is a professional, I like a lot trying all their food. The dishes are always of high class, the service towards the visitors is agreeable. I often go to this restaurant and I was never unsatisfied. I highly recommend it.
Unfortunately my first visit was during a global oandemic so I cant comment on the interior decor or ambience but thats not we really want from a BBQ spot anyway. The food was fantastic. Amongst my meal the standouts were the fish tacos which were delightfully seasoned and perfectly sized for an appetizer, and they even camed with light, airy and lightly salted homemade potato chips. And the salmon BLT (without bacon) and the salmon was juicy and delicious and came with a side of lightly seasoned fries that were tasty as well and had the right amount of crunch. My girlfriend had the brisket platter and loved the seasoning and cook on it although if you like your beef more rare, you may be disappointed. I highly recommend it as a bbq spot in the city, especially if you have friends who dont eat red meat or pork. The fish options and sides will be sure to please.
I came here on a Tuesday night after work to decompress with a fellow coworker. When we came in, we were seated right away. While the front near the bar was packed, the upstairs and back room dining area was not. Our waiter was took our order and bought our food out quickly. While I cant say she was super attentive because once our food arrived she never came back around until it was time to order dessert and then get the bill.My coworker ordered a couple of drinks, which she complained was a bit watery. My Shirley Temple was decent but that is very hard to screw up. The food was pretty good. My coworker got the fried pickles [she liked those], the cheesy bacon tater tots [loved them!] and the mac and cheese which was really good. I got two tacos [was a bit bland], the chicken tenders [really good tender & juicy] and the spicy cheesy fries, which lacked cheese. Our waitress was kind enough to add extra to our to go order. The red velvet cake was pretty tasty and standard. It was nothing super great about it.Overall, this is a great place to hang out after work and drink a couple of beers, watch the game and clog your arteries with fatty fried goodness.
We came on a Saturday night, walked in the door. No hostess at the desk at the front, entire front half of the restaurant was empty...Stood at the door before we were told to sit wherever we like. Headed to the back (where there seemed to actually be people) and were seated by waitress. They have a nice projection screen for sports, nice music (a little loud at first). Really good beer selection w a good price, cocktails are a few bucks cheaper than other restaurants in the area, but dont expect the classic, normal size mason jar glass...The pulled pork lived up to being this places signature dish. Really great BBQ sauces too
What a hidden gem !! The staff are amazing and attentive, the food is delicious... Great for an after work hang out or even a casual date. Im really impressed with the service received and the food quality. Kudos to the Mason jar team, you guys are amazing! ( Try the nachos & the Cajun wings )
The pork rinds and deviled eggs were amazing. Like the last revue the wait for a table was odd as there wasnt anyone at the front to greet you. Decor is light touch of rustic, great division of the bar and dining area. Once inside service welcoming and good in my opinion.
Great place on the east side. By far the highlight is the open faced Ruben sandwich,my lord! Saying that, dont expect to be walking out, youll be rolling after having ate too much. In addition to the food, they also have an extensive craft beer and spirits menu worth looking at. Highly recommended.
Absolutely love this place. Any drink in a mason jar is already amazing! Ive enjoyed this place on many occasions with friends and clients- indulging in delicious and well proportioned southern style food accompanied by a delicious Mojito. The food is great, well priced and the bartender sure knows how to whip up excellent drinks! A great addition to a quiet neighborhood, Mason Jar is definitely at the top of my list!!Be sure to try the fried chicken with Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries- THE BEST!
I am a beer loving vegetarian. This place certainly has a good beer selection, but the southern menu didnt really leave much for a vegetarian. Thankfully, everything I tasted was really good. The avocado salad had fresh/ripe avocado and was well dressed. The Mac and Cheese was delicious. The deviled eggs were spicy and wonderful. The only thing that let me down was the fried pickles.
Great experience! If youre looking for the S.C. mustard base sauce, this is the place. The meal was great, the staff is friendly, and the building /decor is clean and updated. My only negative comment is that the macaroni was very mediocre and that they should sell tee shirts for the out of towners. Other than that my husband and I loved the place.
Went on a Friday night for dinner. It was loud but really what can one expect when you go to a bar-restaurant during happy hour on a Friday. Hopefully it means they will ne around for a while. The staff are very friendly and accommodated the multitude of our substitutions to get it to apply to happy hour pricing [sorry and thank you]. The food was great. The fried chicken was both extermely rispy and tender. Only seme complaint I have is that i wish the breading had more herbs and spices
I call this special restaurant often because I like the good air that is unique to this restaurant. The staff is awfuly welcoming and professional. The service is certainly fast. Not to mention, the food you eat is great. I frequent often and I was always joyful. The pay is reasobable. I highly recommend this restaurant to to everybody.
I came here with a friend armed with a $25 coupon, so we grabbed a quick bite here before heading around the corner to Hotel Gansevoort. For starters, we split the Mason Egg Rolls, stuffed with tasty pulled pork and veggies. The accompanying Asian BBQ sauce wasnt really Asian, and actually somewhat masked the subtle smoke flavor of the pulled pork. For the entree, rather than ordering separate plates, they offer a House Smoked BBQ Sampler - a selection of four meats (well, three and a bird depending on how you keep count) and a choice of side. We opted for the tater tots, which came hot and crispy. Ironically, the meats were arranged on a long plate in order from worst to best (in my opinion of course). Turkey was dry, and seemed like an afterthought, brisket pieces were hit or miss depending on how thin they were cut, ribs were spot on, and the pulled pork at the good end of the plate was stellar! Our waitress was great - very friendly and quick to refill drinks and waters, and gave us a fresh set of sharing plates between appetizer and entree. If I come back here, Im going to stick to just the pulled pork, either as an entree/sandwich, or in the form of those tasty egg rolls I mentioned earlier.
Great after work spot if you work in Midtown East and want to meet friends or hang with co-workers. Drink specials until 7pm (so try to leave at work at 6pm on the dot - ha!)Typical sports bar, with beer, but my wine-loving friends were able to get house white. The Avocado Salad with chicken on top was delicious and my friend enjoyed her fish tacos.Monday/ Tuesday would be the best days to go as it can get more crowded and pretty loud Weds - Friday.
Placed an order on Grubhub, I called to confirm the order because no progress changed on tracking. The girl that answered said they were making the food. 25 minutes after the delivery time I called back to get an ETA and was told they were out of deviled eggs (which was the only reason I ordered from them.) The food was “being made” over an hour after I initially called. Unfortunate experience, was really looking forward to trying while in town. Restaurants get busy, no problem, but a call to say they were out of things or that the food hadn’t been made or an explanation 25 minutes after the delivery time would’ve been nice. Don’t accept online orders and confirm them if you can’t handle the business.
Been a big fan since it opened its doors. Food has always been on point. My most recent trip down delicious lane involved the brisket, mac n Cheese and an ice cold IPA. Perfect combination. My buddy in town from Houston had the wings. He approved (which means a lot coming from a big ol Texas brotha)Watched one of the NBA finals games here, cuz they have a boatload of TVs. Seating is usually available. Wait staff is really cool and the bartenders are dope AF.Drink prices are exactly what you want them to be, so if youre looking for a Happy hour spot, this is the place for you. Beware the Friends extras gallivanting about, thats just midtown for ya. Forget Brother Jimmys. Forget those other half way crooks. Go all the way BBQ and get that authentic or come here, get drinks, and BBQ that is Texas approved.
I visited The Mason Jar for a weekday lunch. The pulled pork platter was fantastic with just the right amount of BBQ sauce and smoke flavor. I had the mac & cheese and corn bread as sides. The mac & cheese was good and the cornbread was great. They also had a wide selection of beers and bourbons. My only disappointment was that despite being named The Mason Jar, there were no Mason Jars or weird drinks in Mason Jars to be found.
Came here for the NCAA season opener for the Gamecocks (U of SC), and had an absolutely amazing time. $2 Miller Lites, fried pickles, and great wings. Although it was crowded (the Alumni Assoc organized the night), the crowd was great. Service was a bit slow because of the large crowd, but I had a pretty awesome time and will be back for the next game.
I went to the #bwaybites stand and got the brisket grilled cheese. So disappointed. Spent $9 on a grilled cheese that had not even a 1/4 slice of fatty brisket on it. Also the sandwich was cut into triangles and I was only given 3, I was missing a fourth of my sandwich and my friend got the same thing! How do you only give 3/4 of a sandwich?? Not worth the money. I really wanted to like this place too. The actual place is probably better, but Im never gonna go there based on this experience.
Was in NYC for work a few weeks ago and went to Mason Jar to watch the Cocks play Texas AM. Before going I read reviews on how they are among the elite in mixing up an old fashioned. Place was live, so I ordered two, considering it took me ~30 min to get served initially. The gentleman tending bar serves them to me in the worlds smallest solo cups, and it tasted like ginger ale mixed w some bottom tier bourbon, considering they were $15 ea.
The barbeque isnt bad, but its nothing special. As with many places in Manhattan, everything is overpriced. Some of the specialty drinks were poorly conceived and just didnt taste good (in particular, the cinnamon old fashioned), but the server was very gracious and allowed us to change our order.
Dont judge this book by its cover. Mason Jar which might appear to be the next best thing to BK in Manhattan is in fact not unlike its Murray Hill neighbors - bro-tastic.The spot does offer yummy cocktails in nice looking inscribed mason jars, but that is where the idealyc hipster comparisons stop. Mason Jar is overpriced with inattentive staff. There are giant projectors to watch sports on TV, but that isnt what I want to be doing on a Friday night. This spot is masquerading as something other than it is - a sports bar.

2022-01-17Very good food and reasonable prices. I am from Texas and the brisket is top notch. They’ve a good smoker and the flat (less fatty part of the brisket) was tender and juicy. I was VERY impressed and that’s not easy. The beef barley soup is fantastic. I recommend Putting some brisket in it even though it has plenty beef. Trust me. I also noticed there’s a banquet space upstairs with about a 50 person capacity just FYI.

2021-08-17I went to Mason Jar on a Wednesday afterwork to meet up with my daughter for dinner at 6pm. I truly enjoyed my dining experience. The waitstaff here is very warm and friendly. John our server was amazing. He gave great recommendations that were on point. The drinks and food were both very good. I honestly have no complaints. I definitely recommend this restaurant as a great after work meet up spot and absolutely would go back.

2021-11-15Placed an order online and waited 30minutes to get 1 grilled cheese sandwich and fried pickle. It was not rush hour whatsoever at 12pm with only 2 people at the bar. The portion is horrible, the size of the sandwich is almost same as the small sauce cup, i didnt pay $20 to get a tiny sandwich with cheese that is still not melted. My order total was $33 and definitely not worth it what so ever. Just look at the picture.

2021-08-03The food is good and underrated. I would suggest that they change the name of the fried chicken, because we ordered the $20 entree and they gave us the $36 version. The waitress switched it on the bill after we said something but that wasn’t good. Also a server dropped one of our meals so we didn’t get to eat at the same time and they didn’t comp it or offer anything. Has potential but a few things need fixing.

2021-07-04Great place for good old American comfort food. Their food has a southern touch. Loved their Brisket and Tacos. The sides were equally tasty specially the Jalepeno Corn Bread. The Rose flavored Kettle One was refreshing and the best smelling drink I have ever tried. Service was on the slower side but not a problem. They did run out of coffee.

2022-02-17Great food, staff and unbelievable prices. Brisket is very properly prepared and the flat being moist is hard to do. Brian recommended excellant comedy clubs. Staff made us feel like we were family. Nice menu, $6 rail drinks are tasty, just go you wont be disappointed.

2022-02-05Food was delicious and the waiter was sweet. I had the baby back ribs platter with Mac and cheese and jalapeño corn bread. The cornbread was so soft and flavorful. The mac and cheese needed some work like a hint of salt and some more cheese but it was really good. The ribs was so tender and was perfectly seasoned. I will definitely come back with more people to this place!

2022-07-23Just walked in here at the time of opening it was one guy seated at the time of our arrival (my husband and I). When we walked in we noticed how hot it was at 11am. 7/23/22. We sat at the front near a fan that was blowing. Our waitress walked up to us after sitting for 2 minutes (haven’t pulled up menu yet using the barcode they provided) she asked what we would like to drink very aggressive while sitting down to extra small mason jar of water (shot glass size mason jar). I responded and said I would like some lemons for the water and advised that we weren’t ready to order food yet . She walked off and brought back a shot glass of lemon bites. Then aggressively asked again what would you like to order to DRINK. My husband responded please give us a moment we’re still looking at the menu this is our first time here. She turned around and walked off angry. We were so confused on what we were doing wrong. I stopped looking at the menu and started researching the restaurant to find out if they only served drinks at 11am or something. I’m pregnant and my husband doesn’t drink early in the morning. We were looking for brunch. I told my husband I no longer felt comfortable being there. The lady walked back up and ask if we were ready to order so my husband’s just random said some items on the menu to get her to go away because I was becoming agitated and threatened. After she walked off we ask another waitress to cancel our order we just made with her and explained why we were leaving. We’re here from Dallas,Texas. My husband is originally from New Jersey so our family visit New York at minimum twice a year with our children and I’m here often on business as the Chief Of Human Resource for GPSL. I will never visit this establishment again and would never recommend it to my colleagues that live and work here locally. If I didn’t find Tara Rose a higher rated brunch place after leaving here my Saturday morning would’ve been ruined by this miserable soul lady. If you don’t like your job quite if you don’t like serving black people move to 🇦🇶 Antarctica.
