Easily one of the best Chinese food experiences in the area. My personal favorite. The garlic and ginger chicken is a thing of beauty.
By far the best Chinese restaurant in the Buffalo area. Happy to see its back after being close for so long. All though the food might be a little more expensive than other Chinese restaurants, the quality is so much better. Both in the quality of the food and the taste. Enjoy going there for takeout and dining in.
Since a shaky reopening weekend, this place has never failed to impress. Delicious apps, great egg rolls (ask for house duck sauce), and the best sesame chicken youll find.
This restaurants food was terrible. Never eating here again don’t recommend at all!
May Jen is the best Chinese food Ive ever had. The quality is just so far beyond what youll get at any other place. My wife and I watched the repairs closely and were so excited when we saw the reopening announcement! Ive never had a bad item from there, and theyve even brought in a new chef to explore new cuisines and flavors. I cannot recommend this place more. Order from them now!
Pick up times are never accurate. Waited almost an hour past the due time for food. Food was okay, sauces tasted like they came from a jar.
Food was good however I ordered pork lo mein and uh THERE WAS NO PORK!

They actually have real authentic Yangzhou fried rice (Yang chow fried rice on the menu). Given that it is suprisingly hard to find real authentiv Yangzhou fried rice, this alone deserves five star.
Just reopened for dine in. You have to show vaccine proof. Food was excellent all made in house. Everything was delicious. Priced very reasonable.
Tried May Jen off a recommendation. Everything was fresh, delicious, and the offering process was nice and easy. Definitely found our new go-to for takeout.
My opinion, probably the best Asian cuisine around here, everything is fresh, only takeout right now, Im glad they reopened, I guess dine in soon

Recently started coming here for my Chinese food, and Im sure glad I did. The food is the best Ive had in all of Buffalo. I took some of my friends here and they all agreed it was the best theyve had. Very good prices too. You can pretty much stuff yourself for under $10. Cant beat it!

Very nice people. Great portions! I used to go here a lot when I was a UB student.A lot of us are forced to go to the other Chinese spot at university plaza but it’s not as great as this place was
Prices are quite high; the majority of the dishes however, are quite good. I would recommend take-out but wouldnt recommend eating in as the owner / management are quite rude (as other reviewers have pointed out). Also, if your entree is sub-par and/or prepared improperly - dont expect a refund.
Food is terrific. Just as good as before the fire. Proof of vaccination is required for dine-in.
The best service Ive had around here. The owner is a gem. Ensured we are well, brought the freshest food and honestly advised us on the portion sizes. The food was really tasty and made to order. Will definitely come back.
Good Chinese food for great prices. The serving sizes are also good. If you are a student living near the UB South campus then this is the place to eat Chinese. Some of their items tasted as good as PF Changs. I still keep going there every now and then.

Probably my favorite Chinese restaurant around here. They do take-out, but I think eating in gets you more and a better experience. This isnt your typical counter style Chinese place. The food is tasty and cooked well!

I bumped onto this place in June 2012. I think this is one of the nicest places for chinese food at an affordable budget that students live on.I have tried the Kung-po chicken, Hunan chicken, chicken with garlic sauce and chicken chowmein. All of which I have never had a problem with. Oh not to mention the soup comes in a cute little bowl and is delicious. Their lunch combos are very affordable and can be moderately filling for one person. (I eat a LOT, so Id imagine Im estimating moderate well)I have enjoyed all my meals at May Jen, be it eat in (in their neat little, clean, low budget ambience that they create) or take out.Oh did I mention? They also provide a student discount. All this has made me hungry. No prizes for guessing where Im going for lunch! :)
Best Chinese food in town. Nice cozy restaurant if you just want a quiet meal out. If you want to stay home and be comfortable just order take out and stay home Full menu on line and they even deliver.
Im an avid chinese food consumer so when I saw the good reviews on this place I thought finally a good place to get chinese but I was wrong. me and my girlfriend drove 15 minutes to get there at 4:03(they open at 4) and the doors were locked still. I called to see if it was just a mistake and then he had the nerve to tell me I didnt know what time it was as if my phone that automatically updates the time was wrong. we start to walk away and we see him standing out back smoking a cigarette instead of opening the restaurant on time! Awful service and very rude.

The good is always superb here. I have never had a greasy or overcooked meal. The service is spectacular, and they are always kind and courteous.
Ordered take out, got there 30mins later, had to wait *another* 20 minutes before the food was done. The employees were blatantly rude, and the food was awful and way overpriced. Never going back again.

Its a great restaurant when your in a hurry the food is 3/5 the service is 4/5 . The chef has to stop using so much oil in the food other than that this place is good

Perfect place! Highly recommend for those on a budget. Firstly, you get really large portions (although it is written for at least two, but by my standards, you can feed four from a plate there). Secondly, the quality of the food, of course its not a Michelin star, but neat, clean and neatly prepared nonetheless. If there are two of you, do not try to order 2 dishes - do not eat!

2022-09-06Most expensive Chinese food in the area, but it’s worth it. The food is always hot, fresh, and ready at exactly the pick up time you were told. The tangerine chicken is so flavorful and the crab rangoons never disappoint. The dine in area of the restaurant is very clean as well.

2022-07-28Updated Review:I can’t believe I am writing this review about the same restaurant. Had an amazing experience dining-in about a month ago but ordered takeout tonight and it may have been one of the worst take-out meals I have ever had. The chicken was dry and chewy - unfortunately tasted like it had been cooked/fried days ago and reheated. Lo-mein was flavorless. Rice was bland and over-cooked/mushy. The only positive of the night was the sweet and sour sauce. Unfortunately after today’s experience I don’t think we can justify going back.Previous 5-star Review (approximately 1 month ago):Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service! Vegetables were cooked to perfection and high quality! We had dinner and were able to sit outside on the outdoor patio which was so nice! Our server was very kind and attentive, and the owner came by and checked on us during our meal. Will most definitely make this a regular stop for dine-in and take out!

2022-09-15This is a long overdue review for May Jen…. and had the experience not been so absolutely perfect, I probably would have forgotten our meal in late August of 2022.After a long search, and having been to Chinese restaurants from Portland, LA, San Francisco (RIP House of Nanking), and just about every other part of the US, May Jen has woo’d me… and it hasn’t been forgotten. In fact, we’ve already been back once. It’s in rotation now… Here’s why:May Jen has well-trained staff, a chef that has been cooking as a partner to the owner for over 49 years, is absolutely spotless, an owner that is delightful and surprising approachable, and finally… has the best tasting and well-prepared Chinese in the City.On our first trip, we ordered so many things that the owner, Miss Sue, came over to advise us that we probably preserved too much for two people. Our answer, “we love leftovers!” LOLOur favorite? Egg Foo Young. It was fluffy, it was delicate, it had the right gravy… it was a masterpiece. We ordered it with shrimp and they were plump, not dried out, and perfect.We also ordered Sesame Chicken, Harlic Chicken, a beef dish, House Fried Rice, and the most delicious chicken filled rolls. They were stuffed with well seasoned chicken and perfectly rolled by hand. They were also a value although I can’t remember their price.Our server? A smiling you lady with a great attitude. We could tell that she liked her job - and her boss. That kind of attitude is lacking in just about every establishment (restaurant or not) since at least pre-COVID, and more likely a lot longer than that. Well done Miss Sue!One final note on the food: If you are a fan of Char Sui, ask the server if they have any, it’s the best in Western NY by a landslide and if you are lucky, they may have some left… or, I may have gotten the last of it. :-)Finally, the establishment itself is appealing. It’s simple and well done. The focus is on the food…. And damn, it was good! We’ll be regulars. I hope you enjoy it too. Buffalo has a number of decent Asian offerings, I’d put May Jen against any of them.

2022-08-24I havent been inside in years but takeout is always fabulous. Mom and I have been enjoying May Jens eggrolls, wonton soup, and beef & broccoli for most of my life. Im so happy its back!

2021-12-12Back after what I heard was a fire and fresh off of a remodel, the service is still impeccable, the place is clean, and the food (the most important part of most any restaurant for me) is great. The flavors are unique, and they have some more traditional dishes in addition to the Americanized favorites, like General Twos chicken, to satisfy most pallets.Loved it before, still love it now.
