Mayfair Hotel in New York
Old but charming. We checked for bedbugs and there were none. The staff is nice and the room is reasonably priced. Pretty good all together. No coffee maker or fridge in suite but ours had an iron, hair blow dryer, good sized TV, and phone for appliances. The beds are comfortable and even though the room itself is small its perfect for two people.
3 stars just for the location. the hotel was very much so outdated and the thermostat did not work. the wallpaper matched the headboard and pillows and it was just a tacky design. the price at the time for the hotel was a deal but looking at the price for a room there now is definitely not worth what you are getting. through the whole night/morning outside the window all you could hear were birds cooing which was rather annoying but the best part about this hotel was it’s location.
The location here is what people desire. The staff are nice and the rooms are adequate. During my first stay the heat didn’t work so they brought me a metal space heater which looked like the coils would spark and catch on fire. They gave me a much better room my next stay.
Great location, smack bang in the middle of the action! Close to subway, although can walk to many attractions. Room was a decent size, clean and quiet (at least no noise from within the hotel ;). Bed was comfy and shower worked well with plenty of hot water. I couldnt fault this hotel for a weekend break in NY. I booked it because it was within walking distance of Madison Square Garden. No regrets! Would stay again in similar circumstances.
The location was absolutely good. If you want a super clean and nice hotel, this would not be right one for you as it is an old hotel. The room I stayed was small and our room did not have any view and the window didnt open. The restroom is also too small for my husband but for me it was okay. And the restroom door wasnt closed completely. However, we spent most of our time here outside so the issues above didnt matter that much. We rather enjoyed the location very much!!! The room was also cleaned well everyday and the staffs were friendly.I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for an affordable hotel in a good location.
Remodel overdue to save this historic hotel in a great location amid trendier competition. Staff friendly amid the shambles. You’ll be okay - if you’re out all the time especially when Book of Mormon is singing next door through your shared walls. My friend changed rooms 4 times during her 1 week stay, glad for the helpfulness but...!!! Broken safe, missing phone, bathroom bugs, overheating yet no-AC to cool down - one aspect wrong in each room. Hope the remodeling angels are listening and will swoop in to renovate. It’s nice to preserve history, necessary even, but maintainability is key.
The hotel was very rundown and shoddy. The room was not clean. The key reader on the door was partially pulled loose from the door. The door itself would not consistently latch shut. There were no mechanisms such as deadbolts on the inside of the door to add some security. The lack of safety and security, coupled with the unclean conditions made it impossible to stay there. The staff was unfriendly and dismissive of my concerns. They refused to give even a partial refund even though I listed these serious concerns and I was trying to leave around 5:00 pm the same day of check-in. This hotel is definitely way overpriced for the accommodations and (lack of) service they offer. Finally, there are serious safety concerns in staying there.
Just got done staying at the Mayfair for four nights. The best aspect of the hotel, like many others have already said, is the location. Its super close to Broadway, Times Square and numerous subway stations. The towels were clean, the bedding was clean and the AC was very effective.Unfortunately, none of this makes up for the overall state of the hotel and the room. The whole place smelled like mildew everywhere. The carpet was torn and frayed throughout and the ceiling tiles were stained and some were missing. The wallpaper in our room was shredded in multiple places, a lamp was literally falling out of the wall and another lamp had no bulb or lamp shade at all. The safe was broken. The carpet was dirty and appeared to be an afterthought as it did not reach all of the corners of the room. The bathroom fixtures appeared clean but one of the lights was missing a cover allowing you to see a mass buildup of muck and dust inside. Our shower backed up quickly and our request to correct the issue was not resolved. The whole room feels crummy and dirty due to the multiple disrepairs.Front desk staff were generally polite, however, on multiple occasions, we walked in and they were either lounging in the lobby chairs chatting with friends or watching moves/videos and didnt want to be interrupted. Although its clearly posted, we felt that the charge of $2 per bag to leave our bags for a few hours was utterly ridiculous after spending four nights at the hotel. Also, it has to be paid in cash. I can only wonder where that money is going...If location and price are the only concerns you have, go for the Mayfair. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
Not very upscale. Location is prime next to Times Square. Rooms are small, but clean and sufficiently furnished. Bathrooms are clean, although water pressure in the shower was very low. Service was very prompt and friendly. Definitely recommend as a great option for saving a little money over other area hotels for a trip to Manhattan, but if money is no object there will definitely be nicer, more modern options.
No bedbugs, No cockroaches. Dont let the reviews scare you off. Clean rooms, very quaint. Great location, secure baggage drop off. Air works great. Outdated, but the price is great! Id stay here again. Downfalls, have to pay to keep baggage after check-out, restaurant didnt open at scheduled time for Sunday brunch.
Tinest room I’ve ever been in. Wow. I know NYC hotel rooms are small but this takes the cake. One foot around the bed and that’s it...If you’re staying multiple night this will be very cramped. There was a hole in our bathroom ceiling, missing tile, dirty shower. Long black hair on our bed sheet. The decor is creepy.Beds are comfy and staff was okay but I would definitely spend the extra $30-$50 to stay someplace nicer if you’re planning multiple nights.Disappointing for such a good location to all the touristy things in midtown. Expected a lot more.Do yourself a favor and get out the the midtown congestion and stay downtown or uptown.
Incredibly nice location. It is a old worn-out hotel, but it has its charm. Small rooms with a bed is all you need i NYC. Could have been nice with a fridge, we really missed this for our breakfast yogurt and juice. I mean it is a rather expensive area to eat out 3 times a day. Hotel room was OK clean, bathroom could use an extra hard cleaning soon though. Staff seemed fine and friendly, but I KID YOU NOT the day we were checking out, it smelled like weed from behind the front desk or office backroom. Really weird, but we didnt care, you might.
Me and my fiance spent a night here for valentines day. The location is great just about a block off of time square. The room was very small but was fine just for a place to sleep for 2. The room was very hot at first but once we turned on the ac it cooled down quickly. The decor was old but everything was well kept and was in great condition. Checking in and out was quick and painless. The staff was friendly greeting us as we came and left. I would defiantly recommend to anyone to stay here especially for the price compared to others in the area.
I had read a lot of mixed reviews before staying at this hotel, but was pleased with the experience. Its a small hotel just a few blocks near time Square (very convenient location). The rooms are small and outdated but the price is right. No problems with roaches or anything else. The room was very clean and the staff is kind. I would recommend it, especially if you are less concerned with staying in a fancy hotel and just want to experience NYC.
Friendly staff, excellent location and comfortable beds.Above all the location is great, with Times Square being literally around the corner, great and easy access to Subway stations (E line serving the Airport route to Jamaica Center, N, R, W and Q lines that follow broadway and combine with Brooklyn and Queens, as well as the 1 line that takes you downtown to WTC and the Staten Island ferry)The single room is small, so if you only have a carry on luggage, no problem. If you have more than one big suitcase, you should consider a bigger room. The aircon is very noisy when switched on, so only switch it on when the room needs to be cooled down a bit. Shower is comfortable, although it only switches on and off, without the option of adjusting the force/amount of water coming out.The hotel may seem a bit old, but it is a comfortable stay and its good for you to sleep in, so dont spend so much time in your room, go enjoy the Big Apple!Note: this hotel often does promotions on Agoda, so you can get some pretty sweet deals. I paid under $300 for a 4 nights stay, which is an absolutely insane deal for a New York hotel with that kind of location, with your own bathroom.
Everyone was very friendly at first until you have a problem. The heater did not work in our room and the weather was in the 20s. Was there for 4 nights and they never fixed it. The maintenance guy just put tape around the window and told me that was all he could do. The room would only get to around 60 degrees in the room. Then the elevator broke down and we had to use the stairs. Trying to get luggage down 4 flights of stairs with a child was no easy task. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Elevator was broken the entire time. Room keys never worked. The bathroom was very dirty. The floor smells like mildew gas and mold. Dirty grimy carpets in the room itself. The wallpaper is peeling off in the room. The ceiling is very dirty. The television was cutting in and out. Also the staff went into our room after requested that they do not.
Welp! What can i say? Im not used to hotels like this.Very dated, very small & very dingy. The cleaning ladies cart was so empty, i wondered HOW she cleaned?! I was scared to walk on the carpet barefoot it was so old & crunchy. There were so many things in the room that needed fixing or replacing. The victorian vomit wallpaper, curtains & headboard were disturbing.Needless to say, we were so busy that we didnt spend much time in that hobbit room. The mattress (full size) sat on a twin size or much smaller bed frame that you were sure to fall off if you sat on any edge. So, when wed get to the room we were too tired to care about anything & pass out...in the middle lol The location was so perfect & extremely convenient & staff does not bother you at all. Desk staff is far from professional ..just another joe shmoe...overall it worked for us, linens were crispy clean & the pillows were comfy...i think
If your looking for super modern hotel dont come here. But if you looking for that homely, 1940s feel, old fashioned hotel it a yes! I love it here. Some rooms are small and some bathrooms are small but they are comfortable, clean and the TVs are big. If you dont want a small room just ask for a large one. Great place short walk to times square
I must say this is the worst hotel ever. Where do I start it was my Birthday weekend with came to be messed up. First upon arrival they had a hard time getting the rooms ready for the guest who have been waiting for a long time. The floors need a strong shampoo they are so nasty i didnt want to sit my bag down. the area in the lobby is so scary from all of the dead peoples pictures on the walls. Moving on the elevator is so old it had no air condition in it so its a sweat box till you get to your floor which we though would never happen being that it moved so slow. we got to our floor it was a full sized bed and a half cot for 2 adults it would have been fine but there was this red stain on the cot that really scared me so we took the big comfort off the bed and spread over it. The room was so hot. Lastly I was promised that my bill would be 300 dollars after I got there he told me 360 after they clearly told me 300 with tax. I was fine after they took the money from my account I went a whole week after getting home to Va and notice they messed up my account the money was taken then placed back and taken again somehow messed up my account which left me in the negative. Please by pass this place for a Birthday get away or a nice romantic evening. They really messed up my Birthday and my checking account.
Great experience at this hotel. Door guy was very helpful and friendly. Front desk staff personable and expedient. Room was clean, cozy, euro- modern, and perfectly adequate. Hotel is located minutes in walking distance from all the hotspots and theaters. I would highly recommend this hotel for couples traveling to the Big Apple. Will stay here again upon our next visit.
Beautiful hotel! it has lots of things to do near it and people were caring, kind and talkative they also have hispanic speakers and they can hold your luggage if you need it. Small but perfect for your stay in the big apple! Bedrooms had everything we needed! i totally recommend it!!!!
EXCELLENT location, awesome price. Room was very small if you care about that, which I dont. If youre the kind of person who uses words like dated decor this place is probably not for you. I would detonated stay here again if Im ever back in NYC! An awesome plus was that theyll hold your bags after check out for $2 a bag so you can spend the rest of the day out and about without lugging around your luggage!
This hotel was horrible, when we arrived the AC was broken in the lobby and it was hotter inside then it was outside, and the elevator was broken. They offered to check our bags until we were able to check in but when we came back later that afternoon they will still sitting by the front door where anyone could have walked in and grabbed them. Checked in and had to ug luggage up several floors to get to out room, I have closets that are bigger then this hotel room, you have just enough room to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. The AC in the room was super loud and barely worked. the Hotel was ragged and forget it if you are disabled as the hallways are super narrow and the floors are not even. Hotel staff seemed nice but after several attempts of contacting someone in charge we where given the run around, since we booked the hotel through a Priceline Express deal we were given the option to stay or go somewhere else and loose the entire $350 we spent to stay the weekend, it was so bad that we left and ended up eating the $350, the only good thing about this hotel was the location which was super close to times square. If you have a choice do not stay here as I would give it a -5 star rating if I could. Picture was taken from the hallway outside the hotel room.
I understand extenuating circumstances, but we were forced to cancel our reservation due to the COVID outbreak. Weve been trying to contact the hotel since before then about changing our reservation, getting a voucher--anything, really. But the phone just rings, emails arent being answered, and theres been no change/update to the website. So, Im trying a bad review in the hopes of getting any sort of contact from anyone affiliated with this place.
A absolutely tiny room with ageing decor in dire need of repair. The toilet and sink are placed far too low (see photo with toothbrush placed to provide scale) making use problematic. You also have a simple choice when going to bed, broil in the overly hot room or be kept awake by the loud air-con partially held together with tape.On the plus side; great location for the theatre district and the staff are pleasant. Other than that it is overpriced and in dire need of refurbishment.
This hotel served its purpose. We loved that it is in the middle of the Time Square. We walked there every day and enjoyed the location. It is also near subway station. The hotel is gloomy. The rooms were so small. We are from Texas and are used to big things (at least space to walk). The hotel needs TLC big time! With updates: some dusting/polishing, new carpet, bright lights, it would be an awesome spot to crash. Oh and a new elevator(it was so slow). Its a good thing you are only in the hotel to sleep.
It was a comfy place to sleep, bed and bathroom were clean, and its walking distance to Time Square and Hells Kitchen. Room was small with a full sized bed. The a/c worked thank goodness but it was loud. I think the only reason I slept through the noise was because I was drunk. Sitting on the toilet and the wall touches the front of my knees- and Im only 5 feet tall. The shower door didnt close unless you lift the door up because its little crooked. The carpets in the entire place is dated, very worn and some spots torn from so much foot traffic.
Small but nice room, back of hotel very quiet. Staff very friendly. Within walking of Broadway Shows and other attractions, and subway. Extremely grateful for the front desk help for taking us and our luggage to the corner to catch a cab to the airport when the environment demonstration caused extreme traffic problems. We made it to the airport on time thanks to him and our wonderful cab driver.
I respect hard working people and business owners and try my best not to give bad rating as affects jobs. But this place should get zero or minus stars. I have not seen such a bad hotel in third world countries. Broken furniture, bed bugs, hair in bed, rust on ironing board, clogged toilet. Dont stay here even if its free. They have sealed the mattress so you can see the bed bugs. But will certainly find next morning.
Location, location, location. This little hotel has seen its best times a while back. Still, the room are clean on the surface, but dont look too deep. Bug free though. The rooms are tiny with typical American swinging mattresses. Three location is top, Broadway, Times Square, lots of subway stations - all within walking (spitting) distance.
Its okay. Its just a place to sleep, nothing more.Cons:- no fridge, so if you like leftovers and dont like wasting food, prepared to be very disappointed. Called the front desk to see if theres a communal fridge for guest use, no luck.- the room is TINY. To be expected in NY, but it doesnt help that theres no fridge (clearly this was a huge issue for me haha).- decor is outdated all over and very run down in the hallways/staircase. If youre the type to care about that sort of thing, dont book here. We stayed on the third floor and a few of the stairs are uneven - so be careful when using them!- no room service. Not that Im the type to ever use room service, but just an FYI.- the TV picture/aspect ratio is completely off. No matter how we adjusted the settings, there was at least 20% of the picture missing at any given time. We only cared about/noticed the TV because we made it onto the Jimmy Fallon show (stand-by works!!)- pigeons. Or day owls, and my SO and I dubbed them, because THEY DONT STOP COOING. All hours of the day and well into the night, we had NO idea how loud they are!!- no ventilation. Windows were all taped along the edges (I assume for heat conservation), so we couldnt open them. They were still pretty leaky, too. And if youre with a companion who has an easily upset stomach... Well, good luck. Bring some air freshener.- DARK. With the windows all taped up, we couldnt get to the curtains or whatever they stuck on the outside to block the light.Pros:- CHEAP. So cheap. Used Priceline, booked for $56/night for two people.- LOCATION!!! Literally right next to the Eugene ONeil theater, where our show was. Just a few minutes walk from Times Square and 15-20 from K-Town (definitely a must visit for the food).- CLEAN. Yeah, everything was super old and outdated when we stayed, but at least the sheets were clean!- The full bathroom was surprisingly big compared to the room size. Everything in there worked well, even if the shower was a little skinny for me (I dont like knocking my elbows into walls/curtains). The shower took a few minutes to warm up (unlike the sink, which was super fast) and didnt get steamy hot (if thats your thing), but it was a pleasant experience.TL;DR: served its function as just a place to sleep and shower, but personally wouldnt stay there again.
The Location of the Hotel is Great and the beds are very cosy. You havent got. a view out of the room.BUT be careful: the reception guys are helpful and friendly....but...We asked them to help us with Transport to JFK and they totally told us the wrong price and Charged us too much money in cash. The driver from the airlink transport told us that we have to pay again.
Pros:Its real close to times square.Faculty were mostly accomadating.Cons:Elevator didnt work most times so we used the stairs up to the 4th floor alot.Rooms were small (2 adults and a child that gets a fold out cushion chair to sleep on).Pricey for the 1 night 1 room it was like $220We only stayed there for 1 night and Im glad. We called in advance making sure to let them know we had 5 adults that were going to sleep in one room. They said that would work. So with us flying from texas to New York, we got there and they said no more than 3 people to a room kind of made us mad. We had to ask how much it would be to get another room and thats when they said 220. We had to split up our group with the other groups that came with us. If it wasnt for the other groups only having 2 in a room we wouldve had to fork up 220 bucks for one night stay.Either way the place isnt impressive and you can walk to most things in New York. Get a place cheaper and use the subway.
Mayfair Hotel in New York sounds great right, wrong....Good location, staff polite & that’s about it.Room very small, Bed not only small but very uncomfortable No support.. Old Air con very noisy.Lift soooo slow, quicker to use stairs. All carpets are very worn.Very old & no thrills
Such a great, quiet, perfect room for the price. Location was the best for Broadway shows, all the staff was incredibly friendly, and the bathroom was updated while the lobby and decor were still all old school New York. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends.
This place was a pretty good value and was in decent shape 3 years ago when we stayed here - fast forward 3 years and they have not kept the place up at all. From peeling paint, torn carpets, ripped wall paper, burnt out light bulbs and an elevator that smells like urine. I would no longer recommend this place for the price. There is no ice makers and thus you have to call for ice, which they will bring in the smallest ice tub you have ever seen. For someone that has cocktails in my room before hitting the town, this is just annoying. Staff isnt very friendly and they make no effort to pick things up out of the hallway. Do not stay here if you want quality for the price.
Does anyone know if this hotel is operational? I have tried for over a month on a regular basis to contact them in an attempt to change or cancel my reservation. Like many, I have been impacted by the covid pandemic, andwas not able to go to New York. (If a zero star review were available, I would use it since the hotel doesnt even respond!)A dispute with Priceline has resulted (thus far) with an unfavorable response.Be very careful if you attempt to make an online reservation with this hotel, especially if dealing with a Priceline non-refundable reservation.
Quaint and historic, The Mayfair is not a hotel for those expecting a glamorous, ritzy experience. It’s like an old world European apartment building, cozy and friendly. I felt like I was nestled in a Parisian attic. The location is prime for restaurants and theater-goers. The rooms are small but comfortable. On the negative side, the decor is a bit shabby and could use an upgrade. I also killed a roach in the bathroom, but that’s New York for you.
Tiny rooms, really outdated furnishings and decorations, has a kind of creepy-oldy vibe that can contribute to a sense of claustrophobia and like you just might be in a haunted house, or a horror film... that takes place in a haunted house. If youre accustomed to staying even at middle-tier chain hotels like the Hampton Inn, youll be unpleasantly surprised. And yet, despite all this, the bed is really comfortable, the pillows are great, and the shower is decent. They have free WiFi, and staff is friendly and seemingly attentive. You could surely do worse.
If I could leave no stars I most definitely would. My husband and I booked a two night stay for my birthday weekend in NYC through Priceline and this is where we ended up. I think this is the first time I have ever written a negative review, but it was that bad! FIrst off, we walked into the lobby and it felt like it was about 95 degrees in there, absolutely no air. They assured us our room would be nice and cool when we got back later. We got into the city early so we left our bags for them to store until we could check in. We came back to check in and there our bags sat, right out front where anyone and everyone coming and going could have accessed them. They never checked ID when we got them so anyone could have walked off with all of our belongings (by the way it was a different person working so its not like they recognized us from that morning). When we checked in it was still just as hot out front and we were told the elevator was broken and we were on the 5th floor... by the time we reached our room we were both soaked in sweat and the room was just as hot. It was so small, dated and just felt dirty. My husband had to stand on a chair to turn the window unit on and even pumping it full blast it didnt do much to cool off the room. As small as the room was, it shouldnt have taken long to cool down. By the way, there was literally not even room to set our bags down on the floor next to the bed. The lock on the door wasnt even screwed in completely so it would have been easy for someone to come in. This place was seriously like something out of a horror movie!!! I wasnt happy (happy birthday to me) and neither was my husband. He is very easy to please, so I knew when he said he wanted to leave, it HAD to be bad! We decided to leave so we called a hotel a few doors down and hiked back down to check out. They refused to refund our money, even though the reasons for leaving were very obvious. They told us to call Priceline to inquire about a refund since we booked through them. We left and got settled into another hotel and I called Priceline. They told me it was up to the hotel, basically the hotel would have to authorize them to refund the money so they called the hotel themselves and were told no that they wouldnt authorize it. I have called the hotel (and Priceline) numerous times about a refund. I have left messages for the manager of the hotel (Ed), who I have doubts even exists at this point. It has been over a month now and I have yet to even get a call back from him. I have been told his normal working hours, but somehow every single time I call I get sent to his voicemail to leave yet another message. I wanted to share my awful experience with this hotel and advise anyone to stay basically anywhere but here. This put a damper on our trip from the time we set foot in NYC and has been a thorn in my side since we left trying to get this issue resolved. I honestly do not know how this place is still in business with the condition of the hotel and the horrendous customer service we have received. Please save yourself and book somewhere else!!!
The service counter lady was very rude. Made us wait until exactly 3 pm to let us check-in even though we saw her checking to see if the room was ready for other groups. Upon checkout, there was an extra surcharge that was not explained to us when we checked in. The place is very outdated. The restaurant connected is rated a B by the board of health which made us wonder how clean our room truly was. We had stains on our sheets and our blinds in the bathroom were broken. Overall, very outdated and needs renovation badly.
If youve already did some research about this hotel, you should realize it has the highest overall scores compare to other similar level hotels. Literally, I would admit this is not a standard 3-star hotel, however, what else would you expect a hotel which has low price and great location? Actually I was initally littble bit disappointed when I saw the other reviews, but the room met all my expectations when I checked in. The room is super clean and sorted, AC and TV are working great, staffs are friendly and nice, they provided me everything that I asked(A full backet of ice when I asked for little ice!). In short, highly recommend!
The Mayfair hotel in New York city is close to practically everything. A couple blocks from Times Square. And less than a 20 minute walk to Rockefeller center. Many theaters are just a moments walk away. The Book of Mormon plays right next door, and Chicago is one door down across the street. The room itself was nice a 12ish by 12is bedroom. One bed queen sized. With a wall safe. The bathroom was a nice size with a tub and shower. The window we had looked directly into the next building which isnt. A problem because there is so much to do outside of the hotel. You barely spend time inside anyways.
Absolutely the the hotel we have stayed in NYC the classic new York style and fantastic staff they were the nicest. Our visit was for my daughters 7th birthday and they all called her princess and wished her a very happy birthday. We plan on staying there again when we return. Everything was so easy to get to from the Mayfair.
The place is clearly an old building in need of an upgrade. Things are ils and creaky but overall functional. Bathroom mirror was cracked, sink faucet was wobbly and the windows were so dirty you could hardly see out of them. Biggest thing you are paying for here is location.
Good location to all the centre of the city but very small room. I Found the Hotel is in dire need of decorating. I found certain staff helpful while others rude. I was very disappointed when my husband left a tip for the staff and he give it to one to give in and the ataff took it upon themselves to have a conversation about us in front of us saying how tude we was that we didnt tip them all when the money was to be split between them all.....i wouldnt recommend or visit again!!
Blood stains on the sheets. Carpet was easily 30 years old. Entire building smelled musty. Youd be better off at a motel 6 in the wrong part of town.My wife and I immediately left. The hotel staff scoffed at our complaints. We booked through orbitz, and the hotel refused to refund any money. Good luck.
Small rooms, broken bathroom doors and showers. Not only did I have to switch rooms because of the broken shower in my first room, but also in the first room the heat was BLASTING and there was no way for me to turn it off, then in the second room there was no heat at all in it was freezing. An absolutely miserable experience.
Getting a room in NYC for that price should prepare you... It seems very old and pretty run down. Needs some maintenance to fix worn and torn carpets. The room was very small and covered top to bottom in wallpaper from the 70s. Even the lampshades and headboard have the same design as the wallpaper. There was a new-ish aircon on the room which was the only bonus. One plus point was the Calamari I had in the restaurant/bar Cielos downstairs - it was very good.
Dirty shower/tub floors, broken a/c with cardboard and duck tape on window by a/c. Open recepticle sockets next to bed. Elevators broken almost entire stay, old ripped carpet, uncomfortable beds. Moved us to a smaller bed after a/c broke and would not accomodate us price difference. We had to drag our suitcase from the 6th floor the morning of check out bc the elevator was not working again.
Your hotel charge pays for an outdated, basic no frills room very close to Times Square. Staff are helpful and the rooms are clean and well maintained with fast WiFi. For those unfamiliar with the hotel, it should be known that there is a daily hotel surcharge, a $2 charge per bag for storage (for holding our bags after checkout) among other gratuities that should be paid in addition to your hotel stay. 5 stars for a hotel room as described.
My Boyfriend & I were in NYC for a concert on the weekend of Oct. 27th - 29th and stayed at the Mayfair! We were caught in Hurricane Sandy which extended our stay by 3 extra days. The staff there was excellent!! Even though the housekeeping staff could not get to work because all transportation was shut down for a few days, everyone made the best of it! We were just happy not be kicked out of our room & have to try to find another room somewhere!! Everyone, especially James at the front desk was so helpful, & knew our situation from being from Wisconsin & wanting to get back home. We will definately make this the hotel we stay at if we ever get a chance to come back to The Big Apple!!
Staying here with my wife as she attends a nearby training seminar, and while the Ron isnt the largest, who goes to NYC to stay in their room. The theater we had tickets to see Book of Mormon at is RIGHT NEXT DOOR. This hotel is within walking distance of so many awesome things to see and places to visit.
We went to check in and our door would not latch unless you slammed the door, they moved us to a second room where the celing had holes and the faucet was pouring water while off, also the windows were filthy with tape holding them in place. Do not go here, cheaper and clean places around !
The bare minimum small European budget hotel in the heart of the bustling Times Square New York Theatre District. Absolutely NO frills! Tiny, But clean room, comfortable bed & a staff, led by Beatrix, stellar. VERY fair, inXpensive actually, rates for Location, Location, Location. Will b a return guest.....
My sister and I have just returned to Ireland from a lovely stay at your hotel,The staff are absolutely brilliant, so helpful and friendly, we highly recommend your hotel, we would definitely stay there again, also so close to everything , we have stayed in some well known hotels where we were just a room number, The staff at the May Fair hotel made us feel at home and welcome, such a lovely feeling when your far away from home ,Thanks lads and lassies xxx

2021-12-05I will travel around the city all day .. If you are looking for a hotel in a central place to sleep at night. It is an old and small hotel with an elevator. No great service. price is affordable. But best of all, its in a gorgeous area. In the middle of Manhattan. Everywhere is very close...

2021-09-01I stayed at the Mayfair a while ago and was saddened to see it now (hopefully temporarily) closed. This place is adorable. The staff is friendly, the bar next door is adorable and cozy, and I have great memories of staying here before I moved to France a few years back. This place definitely has character. Now that I live in the neighborhood, when it reopens I will certainly recommend it to family and friends coming to visit!

2020-11-15The rooms, as well as the bathrooms are clean and smell nice, also being cleaned daily, the staff is very kind, and helpful if you have any problems or dont know your way around the city, theyre there for you.Price is reasonable for the sake of the location, for me theres nothing better you can get for that amount of money nearby Times Square, highly recommend for somebody looking for reasonably cheap stay in Downtown Manhattan in fairly convenient room conditions. It may look kind of old fashioned place to stay at first sight, but believe me youre going to love this place and embrace it after a day or two, its cosy, its quiet, close to all key locations in New York City, and if youre in mood for late night snack, theres 24 hour deli right next to the hotel, so youre all set.For that price, theres no competition in Downtown, highly recommend both for long or short stay, go for it!

2019-07-07I was honestly nervous about our stay at the Mayfair Hotel after reading some of the Google reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I stayed 6 nights in June for a vacation. The location is perfect for walking to Broadway shows, restaurants, and Times Square - and so close to the subway station. The air conditioner was loud but worked well, the room and bathrooms were dated but clean, and we never saw any bugs. The elevator was small and slow but it got us up and down from 7th floor each day without issues. We called down to the front desk to bring additional towels to our room, and we asked them to use their printer and the staff was very helpful and kind. If you are looking for a luxurious stay with amazing views, this isnt for you. But if you are looking for an affordable hotel in a great location to sleep in while youre in the city, it does the job! We would stay again.

2019-02-16Frankly, I was nervous because of some of the reviews. But they have clearly put a lot of work into refurbishment. You can still smell paint in the hallway (not in the room.) It is small but I wasnt looking for a large suite. The twin bed is actually more like a full. Perfect for one person. Carpet is still a bit shabby but new bathroom fixtures and tiles.Clean with a soft, comfy bed. It was pretty warm out (almost 60 degrees in Feb.) Because there is no temp control, the room was hot! But I covered the vent with a blanket and it was fine. So close to everything and I heard no street noise. Slept like a baby. Id come back here. A great deal in Manhattan!

2019-09-21Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was tiny - just a bed and bathroom, but thats literally all we needed. Interior is dated, but room was clean, quiet, and bed was comfortable.Centrally located in the middle of the Theater District, just a stones throw from Times Square. For the price you just cant beat the location. We would stay here again!

2019-12-27Its at best a 2 atar hotel. The location is good but its old, really old. The elevator can barely fit 2 people with book bags, and thats when it works. The decor is from the 70s and needs a huge make over. The heat was constantly on, and the ac unit is above a window so its near the ceiling so you cant see the display to know what setting its on. We got there at 2:37 but didnt get our room key till 3:23. We asked for a late check out and were told we had till 1pm but were asked to leave at 12:40 and rushed out. For a few buck more there a much, much better hotels within blocks.

2019-05-19We were here five years ago and loved it. It was a bit run down - but charmingly so.We came back this year and it was just run down. Our door didnt lock and we had to ask to be moved to a different room. The only elevator is tiny and a little old and shaky. We were on an upper floor, but we always took the stairs. It was probably beautiful in its hay-day, with rich, red carpeting and a gorgeous lobby. Now, it feels forlorn. The hallway smells like chlorine, but theres no pool. The rooms are tiny and the bedding is old and dingy. Nothing felt clean. When it comes to this place, think motel instead of hotel. That said, it is reasonably cheap and conveniently located with close proximity to Times Square. The front-desk staff are also very nice.If youre looking for crisp, clean, fluffy hotel beds, go elsewhere. If you need a place to drop your stuff and sleep for a night or two and arent too picky, its a good option.

2021-09-15Booked, paid and due to Covid19 our trip from Australia was cancelled. Tried to call numerous times 12 months ago, and due to a review left 9 months ago you were obviously open. No contact or answers to emails. Enjoy our money and remember, Carmar is bliss. We will get to America 1 day and will definitely be calling in to see you if you are open.

2017-07-25Great location, really liked the attached restaurant/bar, and check in/out went smoothly. Rooms are quite small but good value and the A/C worked fine. Decent bed and pillows but no real view, not expected though. Rooms had modern faucets that are the most wasteful fixtures I have ever seen, they probably use 10x the amount of water necessary especially with no aerator.
