Sad to say, this was my first time at McCarren Park. I have definitely been missing out, this place has something for everyone!!!Soccer, baseball, track, volleyball calisthenics training,(one of my favorite things)B-boys/girls breaking(Dope, even had an 80s soundtrack playing), picnics, juggling and tightrope walking(Wow!!! I tried this it was Awesome!!!!!) YOU HAVE TO GO!!!
This park has been around forever. Its easily accessible via transit with the G train close by at Nassau Avenue and multiple buses including the 43 and 48. The athletic field used to be a patch of dirt but now its a nicely done turf field. Across the way is Mccarren Pool with its 16 feet deep pool and super large wading pool.
For many reasons, this is one of the best parks in Williamsburg. A large number of activities including BBQ Area, Dog Park, Childrens Park, Big Clean Pool (Definitely one of the cleanest pools in NY.If your just looking to find a spot to enjoy the beautiful Williamsburg/Greenpoint Area this is the park to visit.
Very nicely put together pool is open stores everywhere restaurants subway the G train is not far park right by the water park for the kids slides water sprinkler for the kids volley Ball also and much more also the ferryboat it is all there just an awesome place i grew up in this area looks so different and for the better
This amazing classic park natural shaded by giant beech, sycamore great for cool down ,calm & relax meditation ,picnic or enjoyed activities,7 awesome tennis courts, baseball field, synthetic turf football field,8 tracks with side field landscape exercise equipment but both elliptical broken, the large pool , children playground, skate park, dog run ,or just enjoying Urban hiking under the nature
Several large parks situated across the street from each other. Each park offers unique amenities, whether it is a running track, baseball field, playgrounds, dog parks and other attractions typically found in a park. The parks themselves are all old and you can definitely see that time has taken its toll on them. I took my dog for a walk and visited those parks that allowed pets. For a Saturday, try they were all well attended, so it was nice to see people from all nationalities enjoying the parks. While the park could use a face lift, I always felt safe. While I spotted one doggie bag station, it definitely could have used more stations placed in all the parks that permit dogs since parks always attract people with dogs, like myself. When youre in a large crowded city, it is always a good thing to have parks!
Love laying around in McCarren but the grass could use some better upkeep in many of the shady/tree-lined areas. There are lots of dried leaves to rake up and spots of dirt. Also, I found a switchblade on the ground the other day, and there are kids and dogs running about...do a walkthrough once in a while guys!
I love this park. There is a dog park here so great place to bring your dogs. People are always playing sports here or hanging out on the weekends. Lots of space to run of just hang out. There is also a lot to do near the park. Lots of restaurants, bars and shops near the park.
One of my neighborhood parks. Great park. its usually crowded due to the gentrification of the neighborhood but fortunately with that gentrification, the city has upgraded many of the amenities of the park. It has softball fields, a historic comfort station that i believe the city is expanding to include a restaurant concession. Ample seating areas. Park is divided into several different sections.
Hello my Lovelys 😍 I Love This park. S0oo Nyice . peaceful Tranquil Very Family Oriented 👪 Theres A Baseball field , Pool ,Handball court ,Childrens Park the Bathroom in the Childrens park very clean Nice I Appreciate that .Thank you to maintenance 🙂 park Is Always clean ,picnic Area , Food Vendors .its a Really nice place to spend the day catch a Baseball or Soccer Game .put up a hammock read a book .oh I forgot they Also have a dog park...Whatever you decide to do ..its Again really Nice.
This place has the biggest pool in New York. It is so nice there. And they have a Mexican food truck there that makes the best burritos I have ever tasted in New York. They also sell soft and hard tacos. And the wait for the burrito was not long at all but the taste of the burrito is the best Ive ever had in New York hands down. I recommend this food truck to everyone that looks at my reviews peace.
Nice large park to have a walk in or just sit on the grass and enjoy a picnic if thats your liking. They have ballfields, playground for the little ones, teens and young adults. They also have two doggie park, one for the small dogs and one for mid to larger size dogs. Park also has a designated area for barbecuing/bbq. Public restrooms and water fountains to drink water are available as well. Nice large size pool but most of the times it get too full with people and at times, some dont know how to act right. All in all, this area is nice. Ill recommend it for an enjoyable day event.
McCarren Park is a public park in Brooklyn, New York City. It is located on the border of Williamsburg and Greenpoint and is bordered by Nassau Avenue, Bayard Street, Lorimer Street and North 12th Street. The park contains facilities for recreational softball, volleyball, soccer, handball, and other games. It is also used for sunbathing and dog-walking. It also includes the McCarren Play Center, which consists of a recreation center and a pool. McCarren Park is maintained by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Opened in 1906 and originally named Greenpoint Park, the park was renamed McCarren Park in 1909 after State Senator Patrick H. McCarren, who eventually became the Democratic boss of Brooklyn. The pool was built by Aymar Embury II during a Works Progress Administration project in 1935–1936. Although McCarren Pool was slated for renovation in the 1980s, it was instead closed due to opposition from the community. The McCarren Play Center was designated a city landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2007. The pool was used for concerts between 2005 and 2008, and the pool and play center were restored in 2012.
Great place to have picnics and also watch movies in the summer. You get to see sunset view at the movie area. I removed one star because the movie area is basically cement, & not grassy which is more comfortable if youre sitting on the ground. There is also a public pool in the park with designated hours for random play / playing around with the kids as well as hours for doing strictly laps. Its a few blocks from the center of North Williamsburg, near the L and G train. Definitely recommended to check out.Oh- there is a place for sports as well, & a running path.
Nice track and pretty clean in the park. It is generally well lighted and even at night has a good amount of people. It has really improved after all the gentrifiers and hipsters moved in. Need a million dollar apartment overlooking the park thats falling down you got it all here. The baseball fields still seem to flood our but not as bad after they were fixed. The farmers market here is over priced like most of the area but you dont have to go to Union Square.
The centerpiece of this quintessential New York City park is McCarren Pool, one of the 11 groundbreaking swimming pools opened by Moses and LaGuardia in the amazing summer of 38. The park is spacious and surrounded by one of New Yorks most coveted, if not famous neighborhoods: Greenpoint. I would love to live in this neighborhood. Looking for a reason.
Great park to do yoga in the am or go for a run. On the Saturday there are Farmers market with vendors. There’s a pool, the bike and skater park nearby, tennis court across the street , baseball the Rec center ,swimming pool, etc a lot of cookouts on the weekends and Holidays in the summer and spring it gets pretty full. Definitely safe neighborhood with a Starbucks, nearby bars, restaurants, and juice shops.
This is a family park it has a little of everything has a pool, baseball field, track and field area handball courts I grow up here from the 60s to the 70s it has change but for the good it has a skate board area also it is so nice and most of all it is safe. I love this park. I Recommend anyone who Wants to have a picnic here come and enjoy the beautiful days.
This park is such a gem in Williamsburg! During this Corona Quarantine its been such a great way to get out and exercise while staying socially distant! The track and surrounding area is great for running and soccer and frisbee and handball and bocce and exercise equipment - all kinds of solid workouts going on! Head north theres basketball courts (no hoops right now :(. ), Positive for kids and all kinds of space for activities! The West Park, between Bedford and Driggs is the chill spot. Yes theres baseball or softball or kickball... Yes theres volleyball and soccer and frisbee, but this is more relaxed and about socializing. Theres grills to BBQ, picnic tables, and many bars in close proximity that offer To Go drinks during this Covid craziness!McCarren Park, its pretty awesome
I live by McCarren Park and enjoy its big maple trees. If you have small children you should be aware that the dirt in this park contains high levels of lead, and pediatricians advise that children avoid playing in it, and washing it off skin or clothes promptly after arriving back home.
William James McCarren was born in 1762. His father, ever the stubborn man, disagreed with William on the creation of this park. William knew however without his fathers blessings he would have difficulty raising the funds to build the park. Thankfully, Williams mother was a kind spirited Amish born woodsmith. Williams mother luckily wanted the park. With Williams mother on-board, the team was assembled and able to convince Bills stern, brutish father with building the park. Construction began in 1763. One day after construction began, the park was completed. To be fair, all they did was put up a sign saying, McCarren Park. William was a very lazy visionary. The end.
In the summer on a Sunday, McCarren Park is a delightful and busy day. In spite of the volume of people, youll likely be able to find a spot you and your family and friends can sit and take in a beautiful day. If youre into playing a sport, theres a baseball field, basketball courts and more. There are restaurants, a dog park, a community fridge, and more that surround the park so you can really plan a whole day around your trip to this park
Nice piece of green and calmness right in the middle of all the buzz of the big city. Surrounded by restaurants, cafes, bars, and stores you can find this piece of heaven where you can sit for a picnic with your family, play baseball with your buddies or just take a walk on a green and calm track and just enjoy nature as it is
Really suprised at how well kept this park/pool is! The workers here (parks department, workers there, lifeguards & police) all are doing a phenomenal job 👏 keeping it clean, calm, theyre helpful, because of them we didnt have to wait 5 mins for bag check & to get it, there were lockers available, the overall experience there spending the day today was really nice, took my 2 kids from 11:30-2:30p (they close to clean from 3-4p so we left alittle earlier than that to avoid the rush) it was a great way to escape the heat, well def be back soon!*Only reason I gave em a 4 was cause a third of the pool was closed 🥺 I think sadly it was cause they didnt have enough lifeguards to go around.
Great park but is always crowded. It’s a good loop to run around and the track is nice but is always crowded. There are some nice meet ups for soccer on the turf field there. The pool is nice during the summer and the skate park is nice all year round. They also have tennis lessons during the summer and they have kickball games on the black top. Great place to find something to do!
I was at the section of McCarren park between Lorimer St. and Bedford Ave. a few days ago and the place was pretty crowded. It was around 12:15 p.m. it was a beautiful day and felt like 80°F and sunny. Some of the people had their blankets down sunning, some tried to find some shade so their babies dont burn in the sun. I just wished their were more shade trees or other means of shade and the balled patches of grass reseeded especially around the tree trunk area. I also wish they had some picnic tables. Maybe if they had an area that rented umbrellas and also had a concession area for some drinks and a few noshes (food).
It. Has. Everything.Dogs. Running tracks. Handball courts. Skaters (boarders to quads). Family barbecues at all hours of any day. Misting stations. Nearby to-go margaritas*. Off-the-clock personal trainers that look like Titans.Tips:• Bring a blanket (it’s still a city park)• If you’re looking to lounge, choose a spot that’s not on a baseball field• Bathrooms are currently under construction• Drop a pin for your friends - the park is spread out• *Turkey’s Nest Tavern for Margs.
Beautiful park but nearly impossible to stay 6feet from everyone passing through. Including groups of people who feel like they dont have to wear a mask and take up a selfish amount of space. Please at least have your mask with you if you visit and wear it to wherever youre going to sit and have a picnic or photoshoot. Dont be that group of mask-less people in my way when Im out here doing essential work.
The best part about this park is the location, nestled between Williamsburg and Greenpoint. Plenty of benches, so you can usually find a spot to sit, and they have bathrooms (though currently under reconstruction; port-a-potties available). From what I understand, they have concerts during the summer, though Ive never been. If things ever return to normal, I will have to rectify that.
Good ol McCarren Park... Picnic with the family and watch softball on Sundays. Bathrooms were under construction, but really you bring your own party and make the most of the day. Shaded areas around the perimeter make for a delightful afternoon.Long live Turkeys Nest!
Really awesome public park. I enjoyed watching the dogs running around in the dog park. Its very busy on the weekends if the weather is nice. There is a track, handball court, big field for football or soccer, and a basketball court. Very relaxing place to lay down and read a book on a sunny day.
Great atmosphere. Me and my wife go to track every morning to workout. Everyone is friendly and supportive. I love it. Great diversity. Plus, since I am a real estate broker with Corcoran, many people bring me referrals and ask my advice. So I am glad to be a part of this inclusive community.
This park is beautiful but it is quite crowded on a sunny day. There is a large baseball field that is consistently busy and lots of people milling around. I attemted to sit and read but only lasted a couple minutes because it was quite noisy. I saw many parties going on in the lawn areas which seemed perfect and plenty of space for a picnic too!
Love this park, theyve been working on it over the last few years, and doing a great job. Restrooms are in the red building near the baseball diamonds. The childrens jungle gyms are really large, and spaces for all ages. The sprinklers in the summer are where its at! Fun for all ages truly.
McCarren Park is more like a series of parks . Check the map, theres about four parks. There is plenty of access to park services, like bathrooms, swings, a ginormous outdoor pool, basketball courts, handball courts, soccer field, baseball fields, a track...trees, benches and yesterday afternoon a cute little one man band. They have performances sometimes...been coming here since I was a kid. The place just gets better and better. People watchers and dog lovers- youll pass out if you come here...
The new turf is amazing. So beautiful to play on. Was worth the wait. The new gym is also very popular, and the runners on the track have increased exponentially. This is a vital park for this area and so happy to see it continue to evolve. Thank you NYC Parks Dept. You guys are heroes!
I Grew Up Going To McCarren Pool In The Early 80s With My Family. It Was Pure Joy When They ReOpened and I Go Every Chance I Get. Just Went This Past Friday First Time Since COVID and They Took Every Precaution With New Rules To Ensure Your Safety. Had Fun The Entire Time.
Plenty of space, there are fields for many sports (soccer, football, tennis, a running track), a swimming pool open in the summer, outdoor bodyweight training equipment (pullup bars, dip stations, and others). A great place for playing a sport, training, or even, just walking through.
Awesome park in the heart of Williamsburg/greenpoint. It has something for anyone: sports (biking/roller blading/skateboarding/track/baseball/outdoor gym), doggos (dog park/large walking path), kids (playground), family (bbq/picnic) very close to the subway and tons of restaurants.
Great park for adults. The turf, outdoor gym, and track are well kept. The grass around the track is a bit ruined and dug up, so that could be better especially for the picnickers. However there is a open fields with the shade of trees in the other half of the park. There are a lot of great food options surrounding the park, especially on the northeast side just past the barbeque area. The bathrooms are well kept for NYC park standards.
Lovely, lively greenspace. Very busy on weekends, lots of dogs and people lounging in the fields. There is a public restroom and a number of distinct sections--walking on the tree lined streets between the various areas is often nearly as nice as inside the wrought iron fences.
Plenty of people enjoying life here on the weekends. Some people use the grills, celebrate birthdays, enjoy wine and cheese or just people watch. Nearby are coffee houses, sushi bars, restaurants, and even thrift shops. There might literally might be something for everyone here.
A good but not great park. Went for the summer movie - hosted on a big concrete pad. Not so much fun to sit on for two hours, but the vendors werent so bad and we could bring in beer (surreptitiously). Cant complain, and there are some good green spaces and sports field that make it worthwhile.
Ive loved this park for years. Its very well maintained but Ive never seen such long lines for the bathroom before in any NYC park (esp for women). I also wish they had bigger signs or something to prevent people from riding their bikes on the walking paths. Maybe just small pet peeves. Overall a great park for softball, running/track workouts, picnics, sunbathing, small festivals, Saturdays farmers market, dog-walking, and just hanging out. Theres also a great playground with decent tree coverage and a large sprinkler area.
McCarren Park is rate if you have kids. It has a fenced-in play area. Also has basketball courts, BBQ and picnic tables, and a public pool. The blossoms are gorgeous in the spring! The only downside it to the park is that on beautiful days in the summer it gets crowded the point of almost being intolerable. If you plan on barbecuing in the summer definitely get there early to claim a spot.
We arrived at 4pm. The long line began to move promptly. Some people skipped us because line space was wide.Once inside and thru lockers and shower area, we went out to pool area. There were a lot of people, children running at times. But overall a good city pool experience.Lots of staff and police presence...water was very cool.
A prelude to my work out , only here I find solace in running laps. I go round and round following the track , no hesitation in exerting pressure on those calves.Either for recreational stroll or just a work out , this park offers much more than you could expect.I usually come early in the morning and it looks like the facility is build just for me . Quiet and tranquil, green patch of land on the crossroad of two neighborhoods.
I like this park a lot, mostly for the running track, which is currently under construction. There are also several ballfields, a pool, playgrounds and areas just for relaxing. This park is close to several bus and train lines, local restaurants, etc. They used to put on great concerts in the pool before it was renovated

2021-08-16Nice familiar park and game park to come and play some softball or do a good picnic with some friends and family.A great place to pass some time, get to know new friends, walk with your dog, play frisbee or do something more of activities at air.It is a big place to choose a good spot and do your stuff, and maybe join some other people. In general it is a clean place, water is available to drink in some spots, trees are there to give you cover from the sun or rain, and you have plenty space to play your favorite sport.Totally available for any handicap person.

2022-05-01I love this park for working out. The only place I’ve come across that has a field and the track. There’s also a lot of people playing recreational team sports. So great atmosphere. I wouldn’t recommend a picnic here. It’s more of an active park, but to each it’s own.

2022-02-18Full 8 lane, 400m track which is open to all - can be quite busy with soccer in the middle but it’s always good to see people outside working hard! There’s also a dog park, a skate park, a public pool and a normal grassy park with some picnic tables. Feels like the center of the neighborhood on any given sunny day.

2021-05-14Can’t help but love the vibe of this area. People, weather, and some many different type of exercise with the very same end. Be more healthy on body and mind. Here you can jog, do boxing, play volleyball, take your dog out for a walk and pretty much everything you can imagine for. I loved it!

2021-04-29Great place to be active with a track and soccer field. Also on the side many places to lay in the grass and hang out. And on Saturdays they have the market! I got some vintage clothing. Highly recommend checking it out!

2021-08-19The park is beautifully designed aesthetically, and garbage is taken care of moderately well. It is a great place to walk your dog, though you should be mindful of park police as they have ever-changing rules as when and how you are allowed to have your dog off leash- before 9am is the usual given time to do so, though this is subject to change.
