I went here on july 13, 2021 and the staff service was amazing . Pool was super clean, actually its not like public pool. I would like to appreciate city, park employee who manage the park on very good and systematically. For those who are planning to visit here plz dont forget to get one key(locker) from 99 store and swimming chunks (customs) because store around the park is so expensive and pool employee doesnt let you go inside without swimming chunks.
This pool is amazing. Its very clean, in fact they close down the pool each day for an hour to so a mid-day cleaning. There are lockers, showers, restrooms all of which are maintained by many staff workers during the day. The pool is open until 7p for those who want to take a dip after work. The pool is absolutely enormous. The pool is well staffed with lifeguards and attendants. All of this despite being a free swimming pool, run my the City.
The pool is truly expansive. We brought our 3 year old. She loved the zero-depth entry. The pool has rules (as all pools do)... the important things to note if you have never visited include: 1) you must bring a locker-lock 2) you must shower to enter the pool 3) you do not need a swimming hat 4) you must have a bathing suit 5) you can bring your towel with you to the pool area and keep it on a bench or chair alongside the pool. Check the hours as the pool often does not open till 11AM. They have sunscreen for free! They also have some exercise facilities for adults, which is a bonus. The water was very clean and wonderful. Enjoy this amazing pool!
The pool is very nice n clean staff very nice n educated. The only thing was the waiting on the line and pool did not open at 11am like they post. They should clean the pool in the morning and check every detail that needs to be check and done early in the morning. This way there wont be so much wait or the people standing on line for more then 2 hours. They open late and take everyone out by 2:45pm so it doesnt pay to come early.
The pool was clean and big. Their changing rooms are also spacious. They clean the pool from 3pm to 4pm so they give warnings 15 minutes before closing so you have to get out the pool (2:45pm & 6:45pm) so it can get crowded in the changing room. I recommend you get there early as the line can get long. Also bring soap so you can wash the chlorine off. I definitely recommend everyone to visit at least once.
This is by far the best public pool in Brooklyn. I visit this pool at least 6 times during the summer months and it is always clean and the staff is friendly. The down side is that the public pools are extremely strict. No cell phones or cameras on deck so you can never take pics and have memories of your visit with the kids or friends.
We came from Philadelphia for the weekend and were greeted with such an amazing and fun vibe at the McCarren pool. The staff is phenomenal. Not only are they all very kind, but they are more than happy to wait on the guests. The drinks are tasty, the food is good and the guests are fun. Highly recommend getting a day bed. It’s worth the money. Overall this is where you need to be in nyc this summer.
During my stay at the Mccarren I could not resist joining the party down by the pool. I already was drawn in by the music and look of the pool area, seeing everyone having a good time pulled me in. What surprised me was how welcoming the area felt. There were plenty of daybeds to relax on and the crowd was beautiful.
This gigantic, 1,500 person-capacity, recently renovated pool provides the cool kids a place to hang out without breaking the wallet. Its free and centrally located, so prepare to queue up for a while on a nice day. Leave electronics and food at home, and make sure to have a lock if you plan on bringing anything else.Pool hours: 11am-7pm with a 3pm cleaning break.
I always enjoyed going to this pool being that its very spacious and even has a small volley ball court inside the pool to the far right as well as a small sprinkler section for the kids to the left once you enter inside pool. Just a warning...arrive early. The lines can extend very VERY far out at times with occasional line cutters.
I will give this pool five stars if I didnt expect what I went through yesterday with the females that were working there they came up to me telling me that my bottom piece was not a bathing suit I told him excuse me I ordered this on Amazon swimwear shorts underneath the shorts it comes with the other piece what you looks like underwear but its not and has the same material as the shorts I had to explain myself multiple times I find this ridiculous because last time I went there two weeks ago nobody said anything about the shorts that are swimwear its crazy that I have pull the shorts down to show them that its swimwear I find it embarrassing that I have to show them.
Short version: clean, free and safe pool. The queue can get quite long during the summer. But despite the large crowd, the pool does not really feel cramped. Indeed, not only is the pool large but they also limit the capacity which is a good thing. Just dont arrive late just after the opening (especially at 4:00PM) or you probably will have to wait for people to get out to get in.Also very important, BRING A LOCK and a BATHING SUIT.
Just had a really nice family day here. All of the children playing nicely, clean pool with nice employees. Lifeguards were young but very alert and responsible. A little girl was pulled out of the water who may or may not have been drowning. (I didnt see) We went on a Saturday and the line was around the block at opening time, but it moved very quickly. People who were first in line must have been waiting an hour for it to open. When we left they were giving out school type lunches for kids. Sandwich, apple slices, and chocolate milk. Cant wait to go back next weekend.
I swim laps here a few times a week. Its often crowded but its a free pool. The staff do what they can to keep things going each day but be prepared to share a line with 10 people. The pool itself tends to be dirty but I assume thats because the lap swim follows a very long public swim. Bring your own lock and get there early.
I decided to try this park which was a little ways from where I live but I was very impressed with the size of the pool, the cleanliness as well as the order. I want to give a special shout out to Monet who assisted me. Thank you so much!! It was well appreciated. I would definitely bring my family here again and again
I frequented this pool several times over the summer of 2015 I think for their adult swimming lessons via the NYC Parks Dept website. The pool was huge and appeared clean. The staff were okay whenever I went. They stress and watch you like a hawk to make sure you have a locker for your personal belongings. The locker rooms were big and clean and you were always able to find a locker. They had showers and areas to get dressed.Thankfully the times that I went it was closed to the public to give more one on one to students learning to swim or to participate in an aquatic exercise group. Unfortunately I didnt learn how to independently and confidently learn how to swim at this wonderful pool. I am still a work in progress but I would definitely return here to chill in the pool and do my own thing.
When the pool first opened there were a lot of fights and mini riots, but security has gone up and these problems have gone away. On a hot day its really crowded but there overall the atmosphere is great and fun! Im really glad that the parks department finally decided to do something with the pool after years of neglect.
Huge pool. Lots of Lifesavers. Youll have to reserve your place online. If someone on the management team doesnt show to work the pool is closed. Happened twice. Dont wait! Mosquitos will have a feast with you.----Review additionAt the end of the season the pool is crowded. Very doubtful higiene.I ended with nail fungus.I wont came again to the pool.
Pros: Its free, and they have morning lap swim. I like their locker room and shower setup; theres lots of space available.Cons: Park security somewhat regularly fails to show up in the mornings, which means they cant open. That means you (and the actual pool staff, who are great) are stuck sitting there for an hour or more, just waiting for them. What a waste of time. The paint on the bottom of the pool is cracked and peeling, and its super crowded (see the its free comment above).Overall its very frustrating to not have any idea of youre going to get to swim because park security is being lazy, but otherwise a good spot.
This place is very unfair. First, I waited like an hour in line to get into the pool. The reason why it took me so long is because the people who worked there let their families or friends in and make the other people wait in the blazing sun. 20 - 30 people come out from the pool, but yet they only let 5-10 people into the pool. Its unfair that we have to wait outside in the sun because the people who work there let their families / friends in. If we wait on line to get into the pool, so should their families/friends.Then, staff are terrible, they talk to you with disrespectful and rude way. Lady was at the enterance, her supervisor and another man they refused to say their names. They all come to us to urge and fight. They wanted to kick us out as they apply the rule. What rules you apply we were wearing white short and white as its required and as the First Lady said at the beginning. After that she brought her supervisor and her guard to let us get out the pool area and kids were in the water. They do that because due to a religious reasons I cant wear swim suit and we were appropriate( white) she kept urging and fighting and they didnot leave unless they saw me fainting and lose my conscious. When I went to file a discrimination case I found that lady the supervisor in office and said you cant make a complaint here against me. If you want call 311. Any way now I reached to the highest authority that manages this place and gana continue with filling a discrimination case against those people that they need to learn how to respect and accept all people regardless their beliefs or identity.
Mccarren pool is actually a place I visit a lot during the summer because even though I dont really know how I love to swim . The pool Is very nice itself and it is great to go there in the morning when its not packed for first session . Although I do really like the pool the pool security I believe is very rude . One time my aunt and I were only taking pictures and we had 5 people come up to us to tell us that that was prohibited . The staff made a scene and it was humiliating . But the actual police officers from the NYPD were very quiet in telling us that was not allowed and one lady even explained why they dont allow pictures . But even then it is still a very nice place to swim and I do recommend it entirely .
This place is very unfair. I waited two hours in line to get into the pool. If we wait on line to get into the pool, so should their families/friends. And out of the two hours of waiting in line, I got to be in the pool for one hour. This is not a place that you should come to if you are urging to go into the pool.
Let me start off by saying.. I was pleasantly surprised. This was my first experience @ a NYC public pool, so initially I didnt know what to expect. Upon arriving to MPP it was very orderly and organized. I participated in the 2nd session. The staff was very professional, courteous and very helpful. The public pool was clean, so were the restrooms and locker rooms. I felt safe and was able to enjoy my first experience! I would definitely recommend MPP as a great place to cool off on hot, sunny NY.day! Thank you McCarren Park Pool!
Horrible as there is no one watching the gangs of teenagers skipping and trampling over mothers and children who have been standing in line for hours to get in the pool. There are only monitors sometimes in the morning hours. In the afternoon (second session) mobs skip to the front and threaten for someone to dare say something. Not 1 or 2->MOBS
Ok, its a public pool and its free but will not go again. Waste of time. Place of NO. Nothing is allowed. No hats (only white), no phones, no food (and they dont sell anything), no sitting on benches, no sitting at tables because thats only for employees, no sandals, you cant bring literally anything to the pool beside your towel. There is no shade at all. Crowded with kids.
Horrible! I went here to go to a pool, not wait in line from 1:00-4:00 They said it was because of the weather, even though I checked google and My weather app and they both said that Brooklyn wouldn’t have a high chance of rain. They don’t let anyone in and not all of the staff are nice. There is about 300 people waiting in line with me.
Yeah, OK OK OK, yall, were talkin McCarren Park Pool back in good ol days, and in this case...the ol days were really, really good! Every Sunday a free concert--Breeders, Yo La Tengo, Gogol Bordello and Sonic Youth (to name just a very few)!!! There was quite simply nothing like it...And I was newly in LOVE with the woman whod become my wife--H., My Love!!! A throwback?! Maybe! But whay days those were...

2020-07-14For years this public pool lay closed and dormant because neighborhood factions didnt want outsiders to use the pool. Its a NYC Department of Parks Facility so kick rocks. Its now open and nicely remodeled for the enjoyment of the entire Brooklyn and Queens community.

2017-10-25Nice big pool, at times can get pretty crowded with kids. Sometimes you get your out of control group of kids but staff seems to help. If they dont notice it, then go and let them know and theyll help out. If you go early, thats the best time. Not over crowded, plus when it starts to get crowded then you can leave. They have lots of rules to follow so make sure you call to see what you can or cant bring with you.

2021-09-08Best pool ever; its very clean, very spacious and has a sunscreen dispenser. The staff are strict but thank God they are. I remember going to this pool back in the day and the staff slacked off a lot which resulted in multiple fights, food and broken bottles everywhere, wet dirty clothes all over the place, it was pure disgusting chaos. Now the staff maintains order and keeps the place safe and clean for you, me and all others. kudos to the pool staff= keep up the good work.

2021-07-21Renovated in 2019 this pool is very blue and clean with new and pretty fittings, showers, lockers and floors.Surprisingly not crowded. The McCarren pool is open for longer hours than the Astoria pool. There are sections for all ages, including babies pool, free swim and lap swim. There are no specific markings on the bottom for lanes, but swimmers stay in their lanes.Water temperature is cool and refreshing. My six year old loved this place. The kids are allowed to jump from the sides (no diving), adults are not allowed to jump.

2021-07-23The pool is very large and spacious to accommodate a huge crowd and you dont feel like people are on top of you. Arrive early if you want a locker by the family restrooms or a sun chair. The pool is clean and chlorinated. The crowd is a mixed bag depending on the time of the day you go. Go to the morning session for less crowding later sessions pool is crowded and crowd is very different. L train to Lorimer St. you can walk but its several blocks from the train if you dont want to walk in the heat B48 leaves you in front of the pool building (Lorimer & Bayard St stop) Theres a deli down the block from the pool (Blue Star Deli) Negatives: Lockers arent in good condition and need repair and maintenance. I had issues opening my locker had to ask for assistance that was met with an attitude. Staff in the locker room area are very rude and unprofessional. Ive seen them block the bathroom door so people cant get inside which I think is ridiculous not everyone feels comfortable changing in front of others and I may actually have to use the bathroom. If you do stay till end of the session the lockers will be crowded and theyre rushing you out. Take only a towel white t-shirt lock for the lockers sunblock water. No phones swimming toys are allowed in the pool area. Swim diapers are required for infants and toddlers that arent potty trained. They check guys shorts to see if they have lining only swim trunks are allowed

2021-07-20This is our go to pool. I know the staff can come off as rude, but when you “kill them with kindness,” their attitudes change. One time we went, we couldn’t get in because the chlorine levels were too high. At least they cared enough about our safety. They have family rooms. Bring a lock! Only towels are allowed on the deck.

2021-07-10I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS IF I COULD, when going to this pool with my family I was SO excited. BUT when I took off my shirt to enter the pool, I was told that I could not go in. THEY STATED that the reason I was not permitted to enter was because my top is black. Which is NO reason at all. To not let a person in a pool, I was told I couldn’t go in by a staff member. TO ADD ON the water was foggy/murky and looked like it has a not been clean for a very long period of time. ALTHOUGH this place wasn’t absolutely disgusting it was FAR from clean. I am BEYOND livid with this place and attitude with staff. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
