McClures NY Deli in Elmira
Went in for a fish fry on a Friday and it was huge and amazing. The sides were even better than expected. Since that meal, that one week. Ive been a regular for lunch specials throughout the week. And taking home food has been the easiest for picnics and parties.
Thankful for business owners who care not only about their food but their customers as well! Food was delicious 😋 !
It was speedy service and my coworker enjoyed the sandwich. She has gluten allergies and they have options for people like her! Also the Blueberry topped cheesecake was amazing!!!!
The 1/2 lb pastrami literally had about an 1/8lb not even half the thickness of a slice of bread..... disappointment to say the least at $10
Really good fish fry!I have mixed feelings about McClures which is why I only gave them 3 stars. They have an excellent fish fry on Fridays. Hands down best Ive tasted locally! And, the portion of fish they give you is ample. But, the mac and cheese that you can choose as a side with it is rather bland. In fact, most of their side dishes strike me as unimpressive at best... predictable and lacking the depth of flavours I woud expect from a locally owned and operated deli.All of their meats are very high quality, and they are happy to custom make a sub or sandwich for you if you want a few changes from their regular (and fairly extensive sandwich/sub) menu.The counter service and and accuracy of orders has also been a bit hit and miss for me over the years since they opened. When the orders were screwed up and I called them when I got home and opened my order, they always made it right, and were very apologetic...but it still meant driving all the way back there. NOTE: They can get busy. So, if youre in a hurry, check out their menu online, and place your order via phone. They are pretty accurate in their prediction of when your order will be ready for pickup and/or dining in. Seating is a bit limited during peak hours though.
Friendly staff and great food. Call ahead orders are welcomed as there can be a bit of a wait at times depending on how many orders have come through
A somewhat hidden gem . McClures is amazing. Great deli but a full menu of delicious food. Family owned and run.But ... lets no forget that on top of the great deli, amazing soups, wonderful lunch..... their friday fish fry is one of best in the area. (If not the best )
Staff was very helpful in directing us to the available items in their meat case. Nice to know there is a place to get a special cut of meat not available in the local chain grocery stores. Looking forward to some tasty cuts this evening for a Philly cheesesteak!!!
Had an Excellent Sub there, My mother had an excellent sub also and very good Sweet Potato Fries. I would Definitely recommend McClures. Very Clean Establishment with a nice Decor and Friendly Staff. It is Definitely a nice place to go eat, or Order to go. Highly Recommend.
Simple place ... Four tables counter service. Staff is nice. Sandwich choice almost all meat and well crafted standard deli choices. Even the pickle was good. They also have a meat counter for old style butcher, so tried a pound of their hot sausage ... More meaty then regular store bought. Not fancy, but very tasty.
We were looking for a place to get a good fish dinner tonight and after reading the reviews chose McClures. What a mistake! The fish was SO greasy and the breading was disgusting! The coleslaw was tasteless. The mac and cheese terrible. I dont know if family and friends were the people who said their food was delicious and the portions generous but that almost has to be the case.
Best deli around! Great food, friendly staff, tons of choices, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, subs, salads and more. Stop in, you wont be disappointed!
I had the Friday Fish Fry, battered fish with fries and Cole slaw and it was the best fish I had ever eaten. Crispy on the outside and so moist and flaky on the inside. No matter what I have ordered from there, its always been the best. And then chicken noodle soup is mad Cal in its healing properties. Best deli in town, hands down!!!
They have a great meat selection and great lunch options for sandwiches and wraps. The Chicken Pesto is my go to choice.
Soups are yummy!!! Wraps are yummy!!! Desserts are yummy!!!! Pastrami and corned beef are wonderful. Customer service is awesome. Buy the meat from meat market...excellent proiducts. Best bacon youve ever had!!! Great steaks!!! All cut to order.
Top of the line! They cut your steaks to whatever size you want while you watch. The food in the deli is unbelievable! And everyone is very friendly! And prices are very reasonable as well!
This has become my go-to place for NY-style deli sandwiches. The Reubens and the Pastrami sandwiches in particular are excellent, and the staff is friendly and very accommodating. My experiences have been 100% positive, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Pricing is very reasonable for what you get.

Well, sorry to rain on everyones parade, but my experiences with McClures are not so positive -- and Ive given them at least 4 chances to get it right. Maybe the meats are good, but I only went there to try take out foods like subs, salads, hot dogs w/meat sauce, a soup, and several desserts. The hot dogs were hot alright, but what I really got served was unbearably spicy/hot sausage -- not hot dogs. The meat sauce didnt even save them. As far as the potato and macaroni salads? Flavorless. I had to season them at home to make them barely palatable. Ditto for the potato-garlic soup. And, the desserts? I dont know how you can mess up on desserts, but even these were terrible. Fortunately, on one occasion, I noticed mold on a dessert I was going to purchase and exchanged it before I left. Plus, I think their prices are high, unlike the other reviewer. Maybe their prices could be justified if the food was good, but it isnt. Bleh. Needless to say, Im very disappointed with McCures and will not be going back. I expected so much more from this deli.

I ordered the 89 dollar package and the hot dogs, chicken, breakfast sausage, ribs and italian sausage is frozen. the hot dogs looks like they were frozen for at least a year. i didnt get my free deli ham.I feel i recieved the frozen meat because i use food stamps. my friend who ordered a few months back got fresh meat and she used cash.Debra Krisinski
We ordered from these guys the first time we got our order late like 2 am after placing the order at 11 am and we ordered again this time and we ordered two pounds of cheese sticks the guy there said it was going too be three bags and we get the order and theres two bags not three and the cheese sticks arent two pounds
Service was prompt, professional and friendly. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Not a cozy place, but very clean. It was a good place for a good quick lunch.
Growing up with in the NYC area this delicatessen is not even close especially when that cant even remember to add the melted cheese to my sandwich. The cold cut quality is not great should be using Boars Head. They do not know how to make a deli sandwich close to anything from NYC or Long Island.
These guys are everything you could want from a small city deli. The service is excellent and their homemade corned beef is absolutely, breathtakingly good!

Everything on the menu is amazing! And Ive tried most of the menu. My favorite is the hot pastrami and their desserts.

Chefs salad is wonderful and the Wisconsin pepper jack cheese soup is the greatest , especially on a chilly day !!

2022-05-17Good fish fry sandwich, but could benefit from a little crisp lettuce on the bun,and a lemon wedge. The sides are not worth the calories for me, so I opted for just the sandwich. Next time we will eat it there. Even though we got home in less than ten minutes, it got soggy, and the steam from the fish and the pickle softened the potato chips that were packed along with it. 😔The plastic packaging seems to contribute to the moisture problem. Perhaps a paper based wrap would be better. It is worth going back for, but just not as a takeout sandwich.

2021-05-20Cute little deli with very friendly staff. I ordered the NY style hot pastrami on rye with spicy mustard and it felt like a taste of the city :) I’ll have to come back to try the soups and other menu items.

2022-06-27I ordered a 1/2 lb pastrami on rye. I asked for the pastrami hot. Apparently that means fry it until it’s shoe leather and has no flavor left. I asked for the sauce that they used for a Rueben (couldn’t remember if it was thousand island or Russian) they apparently decided I wanted it to be a Rueben and added sauerkraut too! No if I wanted a Reuben I would get a Reuben. Staff was friendly and helpful though. Couldn’t tell if it was pastrami or not. No flavor to the meat after fried to death.

2022-07-29I was just at Deli and ordered a cheeseburger and a hotdog and both of those items come with chips. The hotdog and cheeseburger were very good but the chips where terrible.

2018-08-06Employees are very kind as well as the owners. Top of the line products with great deserts. I worked next door to them for 3 years amd ordered from them all the time. Very little mistakes, and if their were (only 2 or 3 times out of 100), they were taken care of without issue or hassle. I highly recommend to anyone. From catering to take out or delivery 5 STARS!!!! Ohhh!!!! And the fish fry is to die for ❤️❤️❤️😋😋😋
