We went to McWhorters Orchard for the first time, but definitely not the last. Delicious fresh cider donuts and apples! Also a pick your own pumpkin patch as well as maple syrup etc. The staff is very friendly and I had the pleasure of chatting with Mr. McWhorter for a few minutes who was very helpful explaining where which types of apples are located on their 2 orchards. This is a family owned place and you can really tell, has a very home feeling and a marvelous history. Not to mention that the place itself is beautiful!! I highly recommend you get a chance to go here.
Visited on October 10, 2015. Pay per bag, not per person like so many other PYO orchards. So many varieties were available in 2 separate plots. The trees were packed with huge apples; didnt take long to fill our bag. We also got some hot and fresh cider doughnuts which were fabulous. A nice selection of pre-picked apples and other produce was available in the barn, and there were horses/goats/pigs and a baby cow in the other barn to interact with. Awesome place and well worth the drive to get there.
Ive known one of the members of the McWhorters family since high school, where he was a teacher there.Always good apples with good prices, and same for the doughnuts, with better prices than Hicks, and more accessibility to the orchards (you can park and easily walk over to the orchard after getting your bag if you want)As long as they are open, well likely come to Mcwhorters for our apple picking and cider doughnuts!
My orverall experience was poor and I will NOT be coming back ever again for the following reasons. 1. I waited in a line for 35 minutes just to get a bag to pick apples. Then, the apples we wanted required us to get back in our cars and drive a mile down the road. All of the apples were small and green, but I’m hoping that’s just because we came on 10/1... We then came back to stand in line for donuts and we waited 1 hour and 38 minutes (I timed) for 12 donuts. Absolutely ridiculous. Then to tap it all off, one of the parking guys told us that we took a wrong turn and we avoided “4 signs saying wrong way” and “take your business elsewhere if you can’t learn to read.” His attitude was disgusting which is sad because he gave two other cars the same rudeness in front of us. I’ll happily never come here again!! : )

2021-10-02First time here, was recommended because I have a hard time walking and it is supposedly flatter than most. I also have a severely autistic son in tow. I wish they had updated the Facebook that they were low on apples or that the route 40 orchard was empty and closed, which appears to be flatter by sight. I was also told by multiple people there was a tractor to take you to the other orchard which I didnt see any option for. The route 44 orchard was pretty much empty of any apples unless you came with a thing to pick them from the top or a cooperative and able child. The available ones are all small and of bad quality. Maybe it was a bad year for apples? But very disappointed in selection and wish availability had been clearer on social media. Then there is the matter of the donuts. You buy a ticket in one line, and then you go stand in another line for donuts. An almost hour long wait for donuts. Will not return and would not recommend.

2017-09-24I love that you only pay for what you pick! No per person charge here. Great since my daughter just wanted to take photographs while I picked MacIntosh, Cortlands, & Empires. Cider doughnuts were tasty & piping hot, right out of the fryer! One of the best kept secrets in the area.

2020-04-24We absolutely love this place!!! My husband grew up going here as a child and we are raising our kids with the same family tradition! We go every year. My husband and I both grew up apple picking in the fall and have the best memories of it we absolutely wanted our children to share similar experiences and joys to keep the tradition alive! Support your local farmers!!!! They need us!!!

2021-10-10U-Pick was over very early this year. There were still a good number of apples in the barn, plus the cider and donuts are always amazing. We picked up a couple of pumpkins which were very nicely priced. Next year will definitely have to go in September!

2018-10-13Fun place to pick apples and pumpkins! Cider donuts were so very yummy, the best Ive had this year! Hot cider was delicious as well. My niece was very excited to do all of that and see and pet the animals. Young man that drove the tractor and was in the barn with us was very helpful and nice. Enjoyed the visit very much! Will go again for sure!

2020-10-03This my 1st time and my last time. It look me and was waste of 30 minute drive. The. donuts was dry but pretty view but thats all Ill give. No parking lot to where you have drive to go to the actually orchard to get to the apples except the apples they highlight I guess which right there. the apple barn if you call that nothing there but few apples, honey, cider.Ill go back to hicks where donuts which worth the hour wait for and the barn store as tons things to see and purchase that are unique and tons activities for kids. Bowman orchards amazing too and has farm animals, horse back riding and hay maze.

2020-10-04Great family atmosphere, yummy cider donuts, hot apple cider and more! Also I have oral allergy syndrome which causes me to be extremely allergic to apples. The Spartan apples at McWhorters are the only ones I can eat without an allergic reaction!
