The best burger I’ve had so far in the Upper East Side. The burgers are very juicy and cooked to perfection. They are very reasonably priced (burger and fries or side salad about $16/17). They have good drink deals as well with a beer and shot totaling $7. Would highly recommend to friends and will be back again.
Don’t order there to pick up or for delivery. They don’t put any effort into the food; they just basically put the ingredients of the burger I ordered in a little box, so everything was just loose in there. Also, the food was cold; and totally not worth its money, you are probably far better off at any fast food chain. Real disappointment.
Had some time to kill so we stopped here briefly for a snack. We ended up getting the fries, margaritas, and mozzarella sticks. The service was a bit slow but the staff was nice, and we were able to get a table outdoors pretty quickly. Both the fries and the mozzarella sticks were hot and tasty. The margs were pre-mixed (noted on their menu) so they were fine but not homemade. Would definitely like to try their burgers at some point!
Anyone craving crispy fries, the only option is to dine on the premises, prepared to send your order back, reiterating “CRISPY”.Regardless of how clearly and adamantly a phone order is transmitted, in my experience, it’s been ignored with no recourse or care on the part of the taker. From a business relying on a limited menu,it’s soggy pale fries or soggy pale fries.
On a trip to nyc, my little brother and his wife suggested this place for us to go check out. I’m always willing to try something in regards to food so I said just lead the way.We took the train and walked during what was an unusual heat wave for winter in the north. After arriving we were greeted promptly and sat down right away. We came on a Sunday and wanted the unlimited brunch drinks, I started with a Bloody Mary because they are my favorite and then kept with the mimosas because frankly they are drinkable to a buzz like amount without getting fat fingers from sodium. The service was awesome and my drink was never empty.Of course we had to have some food since we were brunch drinking to that level, I decided on the eggs Benedict they were simple but very delicious. This is a cool location, it was pretty packed since it was football Sunday but enjoyable and a place I would return to
Great quick bite to eat. Only 1 person served and waited, which took longer. The cheese burger specials were good for $12. You get cheese burger, fries and beef. The wings were hard and tasted as if they were freezer burn. Overall, its an ok atmosphere to get out without dressing up.
Go here to drink so you wont be disappointed. The food was terrible. Ive been here twice with more than a year in between visits. The first time I was here I ordered a standard burger. It was awful. I found the meat to be greasy and flavorless, and there was a lot of it. At least a half pound of burger meat served on a soggy bun. The veggies were also flavorless, like they got them from Subway or someplace like that.More recently I had the displeasure of getting the nachos. They came with some of the cheese melted, but some was still cold enough that you could tell it was a square slice of cheese thrown on some chips. The beef was crumbled cooked burgers that resembled extra bits of burger from the griddle that didnt make it onto buns. Not a separate product like ground beef that they cooked and put on my nachos. Leads me to believe they dont have loose ground beef here, just preformed patties. There were a few chopped bits of tomato, a ton of sour cream, and maybe some beans? Really couldnt tell. No onions, no guacamole, just a really awful dish. We also asked for a side of jalapenos since they were also absent (happens sometimes, not everyone likes spicy) and out came some sauteed jalapenos. Not something youd put on nachos. Not really something youd put anywhere, as they were pretty flavorless and mushy.I guess dont order nachos from a burger joint? But more importantly, dont order food from Mels.My spicy maragarita wasnt spicy. Nor did it taste like much tequila. Stick with beer here, they have good deals on it.The service was very good with friendly and attentive staff.
Went for bottomless brunch. The brunch food menu is very limited for bottomless and does not include many gluten free options or classic breakfast items like eggs benedict or omelettes. We were allowed to order the regular cheeseburger as part of bottomless brunch, but the specialty burgers were not included. Great option if youre in it for the drinks, but dont expect much from the food
Mels has a pretty cool large space and some pretty solid burgers, though theyre a little pricey and do not come with a side, which is kind of a bummer. They boast a decent rotating beer selection as well. In the summer the whole front end of the place is wide open, so you can enjoy your beer and burger without feeling disconnected from that summer weather.
The service here was great, the atmosphere was awesome, and the burgers were delicious. after being rudely asked to leave JG Melon because they couldnt seat us my family and I decided to go to Mels. With a large party and it being Friday night we were expecting to wait regardless. They told us it would be about thirty minutes and they did not go a minute over! The staff was super friendly and accommodating, when we sat down or server was awesome and the food came out at a normal speed when the place was packed. Over all I was so pleased with everything that came about at Mels and would recommend it to anyone!
Seriously, just visited the city for a few days and we have eaten here twice! We were staying in Brooklyn, but have made our way here just for the food. The customer service is awesome. They are so kind. And the ambiance is very welcoming and chill. We went for dinner just to grab burgers, and their brunch is decent as well!
Lunch at 12 . Place with 6 people included me. Ordered a California burger with fries and a chocolate shake without whipped cream. Very fast service no more than 15 minutes.Very soft bread, no toasted so it disintegrated with the sauce. The fries tasted like onions (fried in the same oil?) And the shake came with whipped cream. Not very exciting flavor in the burger.
Youd think a place with burger in the name would have exceptional burgers but that isnt the case. Theyre good, sure, but not as good as I expected. The staff was great up until we werent asked if we wanted another beer when both our glasses bone dry in the late afternoon. So there goes one more star for lack of consistent service.
Really great experience. My girlfriend and I ate here recently and the service and food were both awesome. Our waitress Zoie was funny, attentive and super knowledgeable. She recommended the “Hot Mess” burger and boy was that a great choice. I will definitely be eating here again!!!
This place is very cool! Not sure what the crowd is like at night but the atmosphere is fun and lively. We came at lunch time, the server was friendly and the food was quite good. I had the hot mess burger, very tasty. It was obviously high quality beef. I also had a strawberry milkshake, which was fantastic, and the French fries with gravy and cheese, cant remember what theyre called but boy they were scrumptious. Thanks!
I went twice with a group of friends and both times were a lot of fun. One of our classmates is a waiter there and took really good care of us, and all the staff we met were friendly. I went for dinner on a Wednesday night and had the Cadillac Burger, it wasnt the most amazing burger Ive ever had but it was definitely the best one I had in NYC all summer! The fries are delicious (any kind). My margarita was just as perfect as described on the menu, a classic margarita is my go to anytime Im out so thats saying a lot. The second time I went was for brunch on a Saturday, here $30 for your entree and bottomless mimosas is just as good as it sounds. I had the hangover breakfast, and Id recommend you do the same if you want to get the most for your buck. The food was good, the drinks kept coming and we really enjoyed ourselves. And from what I could tell everyone else was having a good time as well, families/coworkers/couples, Mels is great for everyone.
It was okay!! Atmosphere was nice, music was great. I had the Not Your Kids Grilled Cheese. It was pretty good, but it could have been, I dunno, more decadent?? Cheesier?? Good, though. It came with wavy potato chips which appeared to be house made but were under-salted and low on flavor. The fries were OKAY, and I say that as someone who adores fries AND was super hungry. Blue cheese dressing for fries was a miss, it just tasted creamy, no zing.
My go-to spot - definitely a very local feel, but not pretentious. Incredibly huge selection of craft beers if thats your thing, and really really great food. Dirty Hipster burger is highly recommended, but if youre here on a Tuesday, Mac & Cheese Waffle is the way to go. Fries are also excellent. Love this place!
Really wide range of burgers on offer. pretty good beer list.Constructive criticism: the fries need to be cooked a little while longer. They tend to come out a little soggy and limp. A little more cook would get the crispy outside we are all looking for. They even have sweet potato fries!
So the food was mediocre at best but first, the music. If Katy Perry or One direction from 2010 is your jam then by all means, enjoy. If not? Be prepared to be punished for the duration of your meal here. Itd be one thing if its bad music playing off in the background, barely noticeable but, this aint the case. Its on full blast. At one point I think they even turned it up.Anyway, on to the food. I got brisket sliders, bold I know. Best part was the BBQ sauce taste like old ravioli. So... Wont be coming back.
If its a heat wave - and your AC isnt working - would you tell people right at the front door about that - would you perhaps buy a number of fans to strategically place around your seating area to help keep customers comfortable? At Mels the answer seems to be no.If its the 2016 Olympics - and you have so many television screens set up around your seating area - would you only be showing the meaningless Jets first preseason game and the hapless Yankee game? At Mels the answer seems to be yes.If a table of women asks to have one screens channel changed so they could watch the womens soccer match instead of the all important first Jets preseason game? If your Mels, the answer is no. Because the one unhappy dude at the table next to us really needs to see that game.If you really want a Mels burger (which are quite good), perhaps the answer is to have it delivered and enjoy it at home where the customer experience will be a bit better.
Came in for lunch on a Saturday -- sat at the bar as the restaurant was full. Ive been here before and found the food mediocre -- but it seems like they have recently changed their menu and the food is noticeably a LOT better. I used to get the Cobb salad but it is no longer on the menu, so I tried out the Greek salad -- it was perfect!!! The place was busy and had a great vibe. I didnt get a burger but my friend did -- he felt it was good, not great -- which is why I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.
I came in on New Years Eve to grab brunch. It was crowded, and it was just two of us, and we were quickly seated. We sat roughly 10 minutes before we were helped, and when we finally were helped, we noticed the server had been sitting with the table next to us chatting. I would have passed this off and given a 4 star rating, as the food was good, but it was a long wait. I will give it another try for sure!
Better than Bareburger in a more grown up atmosphere. But its really the same idea. Food is passable but nothing too special. This kind of concept seems perfectly suited to be replicated in strip malls across the country as a more upscale Ruby Tues.. The middle of the road flavors certainly have mass appeal. But for me there are better burger options in the hood with far better quality.I almost forgot that the Mac n cheese was so bad my kids wouldnt even eat it. It was like a watery Kraft mac n cheese. They really should stop serving it...embarrassing.The staff is always really nice though and there are good beers on tap so thats a start.
So i guess I went in there with my hopes too high having read their reviews. Although the waitress was great, the food was not. Appetizers and entrees came to the table at the same time, my burger was dead and had no life left and the onion rings tasted like I was drinking oil from the bottle. The mac and cheese balls werent so bad but they oversold it. Only got 1 star because of the waitress who did a good job with food that wasnt worth it.
I usually go to the Mels burger on the west side and I absolutely love it. This one, not so much. I was seated promptly, my order was taken fast and the staff there are very friendly. First issue with my order was my girlfriends burger was undercooked, then my burger came with a pickle that had a bite mark in it (that was remedied). They then forgot our French fries and told us it would be out in about 2 minutes, it took 5 and it was a half empty bowl of fries and we were charged for that. Other then that, the food is excellent and the service was very nice. I am sure this was a fluke but it must not happen again. There are way to many choices in that neighborhood and in order for Mels to last it needs to fix this.
Food was okay, not a place I would choose to go back to. Service was pretty bad honestly, nobody stopped over during the meal to see how it was and it seems that the staff is more interested in socializing with each other than working. The food wasn’t cheap and they nickel and dime you for everything. Best is at the end once I paid I was having a conversation at the table, the waitress comes up and says “So you’re going to leave a tip on the table... right?” Like yeah even though the food and service were lacking I’m still leaving a tip, kinda just strikes me as a rude way to approach a customer.
Great happy hour from 4-7 daily, good rotating beers on tap and plenty of great bottles and cans available as well. Star deduction is the food, the burgers are good, not great and the rest of the food is just ok. I like this place better as a bar vs. a full restaurant.
Terrible customer service! I wasn’t greeted and was completely ignored, and felt as I was bothering the girls working there. I sat myself and waited to for the server to take my order which she didn’t she looked right at me and didn’t even acknowledge me waving my hand to her, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and gave it another 5 mins and from then I left and probably won’t come back
When you have the word burger in your name, the critique standard should be a little more strict. Luckily for Mels Burger, they meet all of the items I would consider on that checklist. The size and taste of the burgers are very gracious, we had the Hot Mess and W.T.F, and they were both impressive. The menu has a variety of burgers, and also includes vegetarian and grilled chicken options. The restaurant, in pure NY fashion, is surprisingly large in size, and is filled with TVs showing live sports. Kids are welcome too, as plenty of families were seated throughout the restaurant (our experience was at 3 PM on a Saturday). On a side note, if youre looking for bargain, the have a beer and a shot (whiskey or tequila) for $5--cant beat that!
Waited over an hour for a burger that came out as basically ground beef (even though I ordered it to be cooked Medium). When the waiter checked with the manager, he said there was nothing they could do. Then begrudgingly offered us a round of $2 shots. When I asked to speak to the manager myself, we waited another 20 minutes until the manager actually came out. He told us we didn’t need to tell him about proper customer service (lol), told us the burgers were undercooked because they were hand-rolled (?), and refused to give us anything but a $13 gift card as compensation. I know nyc is not known for customer service but this is a new low. Do yourself a favor and visit another dime-a-dozen burger spot.
Brunch deal was good, we had a group of 5 and split the check 4 ways. Would’ve been a better rating but the manager ruined it when he came up to us before we left complaining about the tips. Instead of complaining they should’ve paid attention to the table and would’ve seen the remaining tip money sitting on the table.
Horrible service. They ran out of coffee after 1 cup, so we ended up paying $3.50 for a mediocre cup with no refills. No offer to comp or anything. Food took forever, and the burgers were average at best. Extremely bland. We all left extremely disappointed and will never be coming back here. You shouldn’t either.
My husband and I went to Mel’s over by Columbia yesterday and we enjoyed it so much we had an early dinner with our daughter tonight at their 2nd Avenue spot. My husband and I ordered the exact same burgers (the Wtf burger and a cheeseburger with lettuce, raw onions, and jalapeño peppers) along with tater tots. Our daughter had the chicken Caesar salad.Though the burgers were slightly different at the two places, interestingly they really were equally as delicious. The music playlist was better on the east side (though I preferred the lower volume of the music on the west side). My daughter LOVED her salad. She was impressed especially with the chicken (she described it as “perfectly seasoned” as it turns out most restaurants either over or under season their chicken. We are happy to have found Mel’s and are even happier to know that whether we go east side or west side we will enjoy a fantastic meal.
Dive bar with an interesting atmosphere. Half dive bar, half dive bar, with a splash of resturante. Its nice, positive atmospheres, the girls were nice aside from their seemingly understaffed workforce.Chefs do a good job, nothing spectacular; the burgers however are around my tastebuds an 8/10, and Ive ate garbage to survive in my country. So I know a decent burger when I taste one reminence or not.Wanted to give it a 5 star but mah queen didnt approve of their medium rare serve. To truly be a good burger place, you gotta appeal to the carnivore. If you wanna drink or eat, prepare to pay, but you will be served finely.

2022-07-11We came here for brunch on a nice Sunday. They were able to accommodate us and find us a table in the shade to sit outside.Food: I got the avocado toast without the egg. It came on a croissant and I thought it would be a little more than avocado and bread. Thought there might be at least tomatoes or something on it. It still tasted pretty good but was just thin. My husband got the breakfast burrito. He said it was a bit dry because the sauces were on top instead of inside. Both meals came with tator tots and those were delicious!Price: We got an entree and bottomless for less than $35 per person so overall I do think it was a good deal. The ambiance of Mels is nice especially if youre going there to watch a game.

2022-03-21The burgers are tasty but a bit small and the side of tots/fries isn’t very generous.I’m not usually a wings guy, but their trashed wings are awesome - really meaty and crunchy. This is a good spot to watch a game and have some standard American fare. The interior is pretty cool, you’ll have a good time.

2022-03-12Seriously?! $9 for this! It looks like somebody ate half of my fries! I was so looking forward to a good burger and fries after work and I got hard skimpy fries and small, tough and charred burger. Major disappointment! Never again.

2021-12-15Came to MEL’s as I was craving burger and beer.Vaccine card checked at the door. Sat at the bar- friendly bartender ( female) forgot her name but she was awesome. Made a delicious beer rec- “flower power “ which is HOPPY IPA! My fave. Cheese burger with avo and yam fries. I was surprised to see a lonely sliver of avo, the bartender checked the kitchen and brought me a proper portion. Flat screens for the game. On this night the knicks lost. Bar with locals makes it almost feels like Cheers! Will be back.

2022-06-09Decent burgers, I had the Backyarder, adding potato chips adds a satisfying crunch with each bite. They could use some better beer/tap options. Chill vibe, attentive staff.

2022-02-09Love crispy shoestring fries. French onion burger with dip v good, tasty meat nice bun. Just normal person size instead of the super huge burgers that cost more and are too much food. $25 with tax and tip @ 20%. Love Ireland style RR with wash sink in hall outside stalls. Dare you to leave without washing! Saw you!😵

2022-04-03For a Friday night, it wasn’t as busy, but the service was a bit slow. The food was average and came out fast, however the way the burger tasted and was shaped seemed frozen. The best thing we probably had from there were the dry rub wings. Drinks were average as well.

2019-12-24Place is good. Good is not the best ever and it’s def not bad or less than good. Do you want a burger and tots? Come here. Will you enjoy and maybe not remember? Possibly. Solid 4 stars.Other notes : great service. Solid beer list.
