I wrote a review here 4 years ago singing the praises of this place for their warm turkey sandwiches. It is now Mendys 2.0. Since then, they moved down the street to a smaller space, probably due to Covid. Four years ago I came here for the fresh roasted turkey sandwich. I came here today for the same reason. Their fresh roasted turkey today tasted like it was roasted 4 days ago. The meat was dry, cold refrigerated and flaky. A big disappointment for $20. I ordered their salad for $ 17, which was good. Lunch came to over $40. This will be my last visit to Mendys 2.0.
You can either charge a reasonable price for a normal sandwich, or a lot for a big sandwich. This place does the opposite with regular sandwich and high price. Also they should be aware that matzoh ball soup traditionally comes with a matzoh ball. 2nd Ave Deli is better.
The owner has responded that the shop is doing deliveries only. This is good news. May I suggest putting a sign in the shop window stating you are doing deliveries and your phone number and that you have not closed? As someone who lives in the neighborhood, it would be helpful. Also, update your google maps info so that the take-out option is not displayed as you are not yet set up for doing take-out. Again, this would be helpful for someone looking on google for a place to eat.
DO NOT GO THERE. Three sandwiches and 3 kinishes cost me $67. For that price youd think itd be the best sandwiches my family and I have had in our lives right? Nope. There was absolutely nothing special about this food- if anything Id criticize how they built the sandwiches. Though I can only attest to the sandwich I had, it was rather unpleasant. The salami was cut far too thick for a sandwich and they destroyed it with mustard- way more than a normal human being would ever consume. Ive made better sandwiches myself and they sure as heck didnt cost me nearly as much. This deli takes advantage of where their located and acts as a tourist trap. I would NOT recommend it.
Ordered a simple grilled chicken sandwich(Grilled chicken, tomato and lattice) and I paid $17.37 ! They added some cabbage salad and a baby cucumber(!) on the side which was probably sitting in the refrigerator for past 3 days ! I still expected at least the sandwich to taste good even though the look of it wasn’t so great . I took a few bites as I was hungry , but couldn’t even Finish half of it . I feel like I just wasted my money and time over the worst sandwich ever ! Never buying from that place again !
Came here on chol hamoed pesach with my wife. We were just happy to find a place to that was open and not too pricey. I was a little underwhelmed that the deli salads we purchased were around fifteen dollars each and came in a plastic tin type container. However they were pretty big portions so that was a plus. Food also tasted pretty good.
OK just came out this deli place I ordered a soup and a medium done burger.I took the soup and they said the burger would come in 10 min. Fair enough.25 minutes later no burger.I complained, they said its coming.Later on it came, well done I almost choked after 2 bites. They apologized to me saying I dont have to eat the dry and very later burger, wow thanks a lot.Every time I come Im more and more disappointed of myself being weak to come back. But thats it. Enough.
I was disappointed the last time I went in to Mendys for a sandwich but figured I would give them another try. I walked in and very kindly asked for a hot pastrami sandwich, on a scooped out and toasted kaiser roll. What I received was an obviously unheated and abnormally fatty pastrami sandwich on the roll I asked for however it was neither scooped nor was it toasted. I am not a complainer under most circumstances but in this case, having spent $35.00 and change for two lousy sandwiches and two cans of soda, I felt somewhat cheated.
What a disappointment that a newly opened deli would serve a gummy interior, awful knish. The pastrami sandwich on “rye” bread that was more like plain white bread- the pastrami clearly has been sitting around, gray colored and full of fat. The chicken noodle soup is just tasteless yellow. So sorry to have this low quality food in the neighborhood.
Dinner service is horrendous. 1 waiter for the entire dining room. Quality of meat is substandard. Waiter had the audacity to suggest a tip amount. This was my second time here for dinner. The first experience was fair and I wanted to give them a second chance. I will never return. ----------I used to also grab a sandwich at their Grand Central Station location. The quality of deli meats is also falling there. More fat in the pastrami than meat. Someone is dropping the ball at the Mendys operation!! Its back to Bens for a pastarami sandwich. (Good place except for those with a shomer shabbos concern.)
I have lived and worked in NYC all of my life. I have had pastrami with russian dressing and coleslaw in a number of places, from Katzs to the local corner deli. Never in my lifetime have I had a worse version of this classic. My order of pastrami with russian dressing and coleslaw was filled with a handful of pastrami (a small hand) on a mini-roll with no russian dressing and a small container of coleslaw on the side all in a plastic dome- all overpriced at $16.95. Needless to say - I wont be back.
Went to pick up a cup of soup. Let me tell you. Small cup was $4.50 so Im thinking it must be really good. However the mushroom barley soup was the worst I had in a really long time. I had to ask for crakers because the cashier wouldnt even offer. Second i get back to my office, there is no spoon and not even a napkin. Come on now, your soup is disgusting and you dont even bother to put spoon in the bag. Maybe you just know its not eatable and just want to sell the damn thing instead of people eating it. That makes sense.
Disappointing atmosphere, expected better matzoh ball soup from this deli but instead got flavorless mush in scalding hot broth. Prices are extremely high, paid 8 dollars for what most would consider a mug-sized portion of soup. I don’t plan on coming back any time soon.
Mendys restaurant, which I used to patronize very often, decided to rent the back of the store to another restaurant called Bedford on Park. The dining room in the back no longer belongs to Mendys and the seating in the front of the store has become more crowded because several tables were squeezed into the front to make room for the fancy Bedford on Park in the back. Sometimes there are no available seats. Other times you are forced to sit at a double table and share it with some rowdy teens who come in from a nearby school. Im very disappointed and will be looking for another restaurant. If you want a quiet and comfortable place to eat DONT COME HERE!
Stephen is a rude, arrogant person who lies to his customers. Placed an order for 11:45 called them at 12:30 looking for the order and was told it already came. The delivery person arrived at 12:45, as I signed for the order. When I called to inquire as to what happened, got Stephen who was extremely rude, unprofessional and arrogant. Emailed the company and called requesting a manager, but they dont seem to care about their rude employees. Have a corporate account that we will most likely be closing as we will never order from them again.

2021-09-09Good food, bad experience.Potato kugel: I love that they serve this, as I havent had it in a long time. I liked it better than all but one other source Ive had.Latkes: Standard NYC quality, maybe slightly above average. Came with a side of apple sauce.Chicken soup with matzo ball: Standard.Half pastrami sandwich: Generous on the pastrami. Provided more mustard and Russian sauce on the side than necessary. Bread a little soggy, probably due to the issue below.Coleslaw was tangy, the mayo thin (which I prefer). Pickles full sour.__I ordered this as a pickup order via Seamless. When I showed up, the clerk said it was already out for delivery based on a call they received. To an address that wasnt me. So I waited 17 minutes for the delivery guy to return with it. Maybe my seamless order was hacked, which seems unlikely, but even if it was, they shouldve verified the caller had my number. The clerk said sorry before handing the food to me, which I appreciated. I biked it home in rain that I otherwise wouldve avoided.

2022-02-17I went there because my friend Kenny told me that this place had the best swordfish in the city. The best. I was disappointed when I found out they didnt have it. So, instead, I had the sandwich. The soup was good. That alone made a good meal.

2022-05-18Delicious open hot pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, the food is old school Jewish new york, authentically paired with dumpy surrounding, sticky floors and no sink or bathroom for customers

2021-05-23This is the last remaining outlet of this kosher (UO) deli. Its most well known for its pastrami, corn beef, hotdogs and a soup and sandwich option that was once referenced on Seinfeld. The restaurant seems mostly for delivery and pick up. The food is still pretty good. Its on the expensive side even by the standards of a Manhattan kosher restaurant. If you are in the mood for deli, this place does the job

2021-10-18Iconic Mendys as shown on Seinfeld. We ordered take out corn beef and hot pastrami. The good:- decent corn beef and pastrami- bread was good- decent portions- packed quite well with ample mustard and thousand island dressingThe bad:- this is not bad in a sense, but just not as good meats as say the other Jewish deli establishments such as Kats which I am close to, 2nd ave deli or Sarges on 3rd avenue.

2021-01-11I especially liked their new bbq sandwich (not as good as real bbq places but great for a deli) and their fries. Am more lukewarm about their deli meats, which are ok I guess.
