My grandmother stayed at Menorah when she recuperated after a hip replacement surgery. We were happy with the staff and the facility overall. The staff was caring and attentive. The social workers were quickly to respond to our questions and efficiently arranged for all my grandmothers needs. Staff at Menorah alleviated the stress of seeing a loved family member in pain and for that, we will be forever grateful.
My 95 year old father-in-law just spent a few weeks in rehab at Menorah. He thankfully came home today. He told me he rated the place 9/10-- said the staff was kind and caring, the food was good and the recreation staff made extra effort during this challenging time. we are very grateful to all the staff for taking such good care of him. Kudos to all of you!
My father received excellent care at Menorah, great rehab services, facility is beautiful, clean , his aids were attentive and caring. he was treated in a number of nursing facilities in Brooklyn the past and Menorah is the best of them all .07/16/2019 updateI am editing my old original review only to give this facility even more praise.my father needed rehab again and there was no other choice for us since they are simply the best at what they do.ON admission my father was recognized by nursing stuff from his previous stays and given a warm welcome. Rehab stuff is phenomenal and he is back to walking better. Nursing stuff attentive and professional.they truly care for the sick and ailing and do it with outmost care.08/07/2019addendumi just visited my dad few days ago and had several interactions with nursing stuff.againnursing stuff was courteous and professional.
Very clean, good food apparently but very poor medical service. If youre looking to hire a commercial cleaner come here. If youre looking to make sure your enemies suffer deeply, send them here. But do not send your loved ones to this place. They bill the insurance to the maximum and toss the patient to the street. No social services are provided -- theyre just lining their pockets. These people dont even pick up the phone!
We are very grateful to all Menorah staff that took care of my dad during his 2 month stay. My dad arrived after a serious injury and a surgery, with multiple other health issues. The progress that he has made while at the Menorah has been remarkable. He required help of multiple specialists - physical therapist, occupational therapist, medical doctor, nutritionist and, of course, nurses. Each of them provided an attentive care to my dad. They also promptly returned my calls and took their time to keep me up to date on Dads situation. I can only imagine how difficult it was for Menorah staff to do all that under covid restrictions, but the results, i.e. dads progress and recovery, speak for themselves.
Awesome place, best in Brooklyn for rehab and long care. Recreation department makes patients feel happy and the amount of activities keeps patients busy all day long. It doesnt feel like institution, it is more like summer camp for grandpas and grandmas. Wish they would bring back the slots machines. And the million dollars view it is just the cherry on the top. Grounds are magnificent and the proximity to the water makes you feel like a vacation place. Thank you for everything! This comment was written about a year ago... My mom departed to better place on May 25 . We would like to thank everybody who made her last days painless and let her keep her dignity. Menorah became our home , every employee became our family member and we will cherish every happy moment we had thanks to everybody at Menorah, from front desk to aids, nurses, doctors and housekeeping.Низкий поклон всем кто дал нам возможность продлить жизнь нашей маме !
Would never go back to this place . Mom wad there for 3 weeks extremely under staffed, place is nice, but its a cover up for lack of staff they just let this poor people just lay there, with diapers on because they can not take you to the bathroom . It takes 25 min for someone to come and help . Dr never see you, dietritionist never check in with you. They just send any food does not matter what you ordered or need no communication . Feel sorry for elderly that are their alone with no advocate watching . Thank god I got my mom out and when I did she came home with a UTI infection from this place . Terrible!!!
Place has a nice view and outside environment is beautiful for both patients and family, but the quality of care and understaffed floors are disappointing. I will bullet the cons:1) severely understaffed. On the hospice wing, there is only one nurse over seeing 20 patients. Patients especially under hospice have demanding needs such as medications, liquids, dressings, feedings, etc. One nurse cannot simply keep up with this demand. Additionally when the nurse goes on “break”, patients have to wait a long time before the nurse comes back. It’s absurd how dying people in excruciating pain have to compromise their comfort because of the shortage of staffing resources.2) Half the nurses are not knowledgeable. My father has a chest catheter which is pretty simple to use. Just drain the fluid right? Unfortunately in the beginning not many nurses were familiar with such a common device for cancer patients, and it took a long time and a lot of my personal advocating until all the staff were up to speed with the situation.3) Administration including nurse supervisors and social workers won’t listen to you. There are a handful that will just keep giving you convoluted indirect answers until you have nothing left to say. I’ve caught many mistakes and discrepancies, but they always refuse to acknowledge that maybe their staff did actually mess up. No, they will shut you up by saying they will relay your concerns to the team, but it takes a long time before anything is done. And you’d have to voice it multiple times. Extremely exhausting on the caregiver. Upper levels of Administration give don’t have the skills to facilitate concerns. A social workers said I disrespected my father by bringing up these complaints. Ridiculous.4) only two CNAs as well on every shift, which again isn’t enough for 20 patients. I have had unpleasant experiences. Some are incompetent. For instance, when my father needed his diaper to be changed, they put the bucket of soap water on the same table my father put his open cups of water. This risks contamination and is unsanitary. one time a CNA dropped the bed remote which allows immobile bedridden patients to adjust the bed; she literally stopped, looked at the remote, and walked out of the room while She looked at me Pick it up. It also takes an hour for my dad to get some ice chips since he cannot drink fluids. wait time is unacceptable. No sane person has the patience or tolerance to deal with this nonsense.5) management is poor. your family member will have to wait a long time for pain medications. Dad has had to wait over half an hour for morphine while he’s sitting in his room screaming in agony because there’s only one nurse. Additionally, one time Menorah ran out of morphine. How can an organization with a division specializing in hospice run out of common pain meds such as morphine? Dad had to wait 5-6 hours one time for the pharmacy to deliver because even the emergency supply ran dry. It’s common sense to regulate the supply and order in advance.6) They give you a hard time. when my father was first admitted here, I showed proof that my dad takes a certain feeding called Ensure Enlive. After proving to the doctor and administration and even SUPPLYING it from MJHS home hospice, they refused to comply. I told them he will have adverse reactions to Jevity, but doctors, supervisors, and admin still didn’t budge. The same night, my father vomited and risked pneumonia. Only after this did they finally decide to listen to what was right. I had a family meeting to escalate this issue but the social workers and head of administration got offended and defensive. staff can’t hear the family concerns out and act professionally. If you’re considering your loved one to come to Menorah, don’t be deceived by the nice environment. It’s beautiful, but be prepared to deal with severe understaffing, unknowledgeable staff, and poor management.
The facility is beautiful and clean; the nurses and rehab are productive and caring; patients are well cared for. These are the pros. The social work department is another story. The director of social services runs this department horribly with a lacking and misguided structure. She does not motivate her staff and does not hear their continuing concerns about work-life balance, or the insurmountable amount of work in the facility due to her terrible departmental structure and employee roles. She plays favorites with certain staff and bullies the rest. The department is chronically understaffed and corners are cut left and right because otherwise the work can never finish. She yells at staff and clients and cannot contain her own stress or emotions. She does a terrible job of training new employees and changes the roles people are hired for day-to-day. If she cannot bully you into doing something unethical then youre SOL. She fails at providing adequate supervision and lies when it benefits her narrative. She does not set boundaries for the social work department and promises everyone at Menorah that we will take on any and tasks at any time. When we challenge this, we get told thats the job. She fails at remedying any issues and lies about the job descriptions we are hired for. Many staff and departments at this facility have had negative experiences with her. Lastly, she becomes irate if people take their earned PTO and invents policies on the spot (which are conveniently NEVER in writing) to justify taking away pay and PTO days, among other things. This facility desperately needs a competent director of social services. This woman is unfit for the job. I do not recommend that ANY social worker who is competent and honest apply for this job and work for this director. If any families have issues with the social services department - heres why.
The best care I ever received after I needed short term rehab after fracturing my ribs and needed 6 months here. All I can say is the staff is very professional and caring and take excellent care of their patients .Take it from me Im a physician. If you or your family need rehab or a nursing home this is the best in NYC.The food is excellent. The faculty is modern and clean and it was great to be able to look out the window and see the Atlantic Ocean
Spent 10 days for hip replacement most aids were wonderful some made you feel like an inconvenience nurse staff were very caring op therapist was wonderful oh therapist loved her pushed but not more than I could really do. Room was kept spotless only real problem was if you needed help going from wheel chair to bed or go to bathroom you sometimes had to wait a very long time if you rang bell twice you got an attitude
My man was there about 4 weeks 3 west Mr Tarik the head nurse was outstanding, knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to help everyone. Calm soft spoken made everyone fell comfortable. The day shift most of the staff was ok. The place is kept clean. The night shift was horrible is not the word. They only cared about themselves. You ring the bell and no one shows up. He had to go to the bathroom and the nurse finally came in and told him to GO BACK TO SLEEP They are short staff and that is not a excuse. They are not poor that they can not put extra nursing. Just 2 working one worse than the order. Complaining is like taking to the wall. They DO NOT read the chart with instruction pertaining to the pt. before they enter the pt room. That is a no no. You should have more people like me Tarik working there. You should get rid of your night shift people or retrain them. The therapy session leaves a lot to be desired they are supposed to be 40 minutes. 15 minutes work out and the rest is rest time. All in all the day shift great thanks to mr Tarik and his staff. Night shift AWFUL ..........therapy session were ok.
The facility is nice, but the care can be way better. Unresponsive social workers, DR and nurses. Patients are sitting and waiting for 20-45 minutes to get their diapers changed. They are short staffed and the administration does nothing about it. how can you cave 2 aids watching 20 people ? The food is better then on the plane but just a little better.Asking for someone to call you back is useless, you are better off waiting for the Mosiah to come. It is a shame, 3 years ago this was an amazing facility and now its just a cash cow.
Our mother Tokar, Fanya, who is 91 years old, is currently a resident of Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care. She is receiving excellent care from all the members of the medical team. Especially we would like to highlight Dr. Vitaliy Agaronov, who takes care of our mother. We are very impressed, pleased and lucky to have such a doctor for our mother. He is very caring, knowledgeable and highly professional. He goes above and beyond to treat his patients. He also has a superb bedside manner. He listens, thoroughly and understandably explains all the medical issues, no matter how trivial they may seem.We think that our mother is blessed to have such a professional care at Menorah Center and Dr. Vitaliy Agaronov as her Doctor.Thank you very much for your care!!!We also would like to to say a great thanks to Alexandra Seletty, the social worker assigned to our mothers case. We have never expected the volume of paper work necessary to process the admission and transition needed to get our mother from the hospital to Menorah.Alexandra was and continues to be very helpful, responsive, professional, and very knowledgeable. We fully rely on her skills. It is great to have such social worker and a great person to deal with our mothers case. Thank you, Alexandra!!!Leonid Tokar and Rimma Levina
Horrible place. The staff give you an attitude on everthing you need. You can wait for hours for medicine or for nurse aid help. Very unfriendly and angry people working on the west 2nd and 3rd floors. Our family very unhappy that we were choose Menorah Rehab for our mom who is underwent the hip surgery
The most horrible center for the elder people. Here the staff do not help people to stand on their feet, but they just try to shorten their lives. My mother- in- law was in Menorah for two weeks. If we did not take her to the hospital again until morning she would not live to see. And doctor tried to convince us that everything was OK. Please keep your loved ones away from this place
Best people and place. They take great care of all their patients. We need more of them in NY. Seriously. They are a gem in healthcare. They work really hard and do not get the credit they deserve. ( I know that could be said of all healthcare places) , but they not only take care of the patients, but also bring relief to the families, knowing that they are being VERY Well Cared for. (at least in my case and most people you would ask whose family were or are there). With Deep Gratitude, G-d Bless.
My mom was just discharged from this facility. Experience was terrible. With very few exceptions staff was rude, unprofessional, incompetent and uncaring. This includes social workers, physical therapists, dieticians, and doctors. Food was bad, Mom’s dietary restrictions were not considered at all. The only positive points are: cleanliness and ocean views.
Ive seen my share of nursing homes and Menorah is the worst. Old, sick, dying patients are nuisance; families are not welcome. The only, what count are insurance payments. Im not going into details - too upsetting. If you have people you love and they need this level of care, do not trust Menorah!
I want to give a shout out to the rehab center, specially PT and also to the OT department I came in with a fractured neck and lower lumbar fracture. And was there three months and left walking. Great care and hard work also from 3 West staff that got me home before Xmas!!’E. James
If there was something lower then one star that is what they deserve. My grandmother died of asphyxiation on their watch on the fourth day of the month. Instead of them waiving the monthly fee or prorating the bill they charged my dad the entire month bill. I have NEVER in my life dealt with inconsiderate, horrible people such as the staff that work there. I wouldnt send my worst enemy there!
We were going to put our grandmother into this hospice, so we and the hospital called them and they said they had room for her. Now, after we took her breathing tube out, she needs to be moved to the hospice. So we called them to tell them we were going to move her there only to find out that they dnt have room anymore. What are we supposed to do now? Please, do whats better for your loved ones. Take them to any other hospice.
Never had an issue prior to this time my mom was admitted for rehab. One particular nurse nearly killed my mother by not connecting her oxygen to the machine!!! Ive filed complaints and today my mom is in the hospital!!I requested a doctor from the nurse who ignored me, spoke to the social worker who said the doctor will be in by 10:30 it was 9:30 am and I had to call 911!!Disgusting and shameful on what has happened. If you have any respiratory issues do not go there!!!!!
This is a terrible place to work. Upper management is racist and treat their nursing staff as slaves. Staff can’t eat on their lunch breaks are under constant surveillance as if it’s the Soviet Union. Ms. Davis the former DNS from years ago was the best thing to ever happen to Menorah. Do NOT come to work here. Mary Digiangi who was HR terrorized staff and threatened to fire them simply for existing. Upper management at Menorah are RACIST towards their predominately black, immigrant nursing staff. Patients spit and hit nursing staff and management treat them like dogs. I hope one of the CEOs does one of the Undercover bosses to see how staff are treated at this slave camp.
My dad was a patient here off and on in 2021. There were times where he was being taken care of but there was all so times where he wasnt. In the final month of his life he was a patient here at the end of May early june. There was miscommunication between the home and Maimonides hospital as far as him being in hospice care. My family and I were told because of his health condition he could not be transferred to hospice there because he will always be in and out of the hospital and there was no hospice beds available. Before he was transferred to Coney Island hospital my mom found him in the room with his clothes dirty and barely able to speak or eat. We were told he had to be transferred to Coney Island hospital where his care was even worse and eventually he was transferred to a hospice facility where he died the next day on June 16th.

2022-01-10Our dad has many medical issues: he is non-ambulatory, unable to feed himself, diabetic, and visually impaired etc. Each of these medical issues was taken care of by Menorah’s full-service facility and caring staff. We found both administrative and medical staff to be responsive to questions and/or concerns. We felt that the doctors, nurses and administrative staff exhibited a sense of compassionate patient care. The social workers, in both short and long-term care were phenomenal. Our first choice was for dad to be home. Our second choice: Menorah.

2022-01-13Menorah’s staff is amazing. That includes the doctors, nurses, social workers, security, and other staff. Even though at times the home was short staffed, as a result of Covid, the nursing staff was always compassionate and caring. The facility is clean and follows Covid protocol. The parking lot makes visiting often much easier. My father who was very hesitant about my mother going to any facility, was very pleased for the 4-5 months that she spent there. My entire family has tremendous gratitude to the Menorah staff for making a very difficult time a little bit easier. After my mother passed away, we received calls from several staff members expressing their condolences.

2022-01-28Menorah took great care of my grandmother Frida while she was in the rehab center after she had hip surgery. The entire staff made sure that she was comfortable and happy. Dr. Kamal listened to all of her needs and took excellent care of her. Alexandra from social work made sure she was admitted and dispatched properly and was very efficient. Nurses Tanisha, Anna and Nandnarie all helped her so much in her time there. Thank you menorah for a great experience. I would recommend them to anyone!

2022-06-07This facility is unsafe for geriatrics and once they enter they will not leave. We had an extremely poor quality of service experience with a case of physical abuse (on video), neglect (bed sores and lack of changing of colostomy bag), and rejection of multiple requests to admit to hospital by the guardian as it was evident the resident was unresponsive, not eating and getting worse. This resident ultimately passed away from sepsis. The facility has refused to provide any medical records. Expect a lawsuit.

2021-10-22Dont let your loved one stay here. They will neglect and harm them. We were visiting our relative like we do every week there and she wasnt being herself. We begged for a doctor and they said they dont have one!!!! Staff is not safe or reliable. This is a place that you sent to just to die. Take your loved ones out while you can. My relative was sent to the hospital for extreme dehydration and neglect after being here for a month

2021-11-16Awful experience overall! There are very nice people working there (the security downstairs and one particular nurse are wonderful), but they are lost in a sea of incompetence and horrid carelessness and indifference to other people’s suffering.A few months ago they finally resumed visitation, after being on a lockdown, but since, I believe, September, the only way to see our loved ones is to take them outside. Oh boy, that’s a real torture, because it takes at least 30 minutes, but often longer than an hour every time for the staff to bring residents out due to various reasons. I’m not claiming that none of them are valid, but the visits are required to be scheduled at least a day ahead, I’d expect for that particular reason, so everyone is aware and prepared.I don’t even want to go to the fact that residents hygiene is not a priority for the staff… it’s just horrible. And being understaffed is a ridiculous excuse, because it was that way even before they started constantly announcing it.

2021-12-23Tl;dr This is in no way a medical facility of any kind, its a warehouse that maximizes profits at the expense of residents health and safety. Dont be fooled by the landscaping, youre risking your life by not going elsewhere!Edit: I truly believe if I retelling my experience dissuades someone from coming to this facility then actual lives might be saved/extended.A relative was here for rehab; somehow Menorah Center forgot to prescribe a medication he was taking in the hospital before being transferred there as well as at home for years previously. The error was only caught when I noticed it 10 days later!I demanded to speak to a doctor but was told he wasnt going to be back for 45 min; thirty minutes later the most nebbish doctor you could imagine appears - it very quickly became clear this man was a cardboard cut out of a doctor, a doctor in name only who was hired to meet minimum requirements. He had to be the cheapest option available as I couldnt picture him ever being hired as a doctor anywhere else. My relative later told me in two weeks he saw a doctor only ONCE.Let me remind you this was in the middle of a weekday, before the incident I heard a nurse tell a patient there was no doctor on duty until morning (for hundreds of patients!) so Im assuming that is the normally case at night and probably on weekends.I guess they have some type of deal with devil whereby medical emergencies only occur during the 40 hours a week a doctor is available. Now imagine theres a medical emergency (forget the doctor I saw, hed be on WebMD trying figure things out). Just the location alone would take an ambulance 15 minutes to reach to front door, by the time someone is loaded onto the ambulance and then taken back to the hospital (Coney Island Hospital BTW, as anything else would be too far) an absolute BEST case scenario would see the patient arrive 45 minutes after the initial 911 call (and who knows how long that took them to make). Not having at least one *competent* doctor on call at all times, considering the age & health of the hundreds of residents is certainly negligent and should be criminal! There shouldnt even be a lunch break where theres NO DOCTOR ON THE PREMISES!Further I didnt assess how many registered nurses there were in the building but now that I think about it all I ever remember seeing were health aidesI really could go on much longer about this place, but just want to add a few more things as briefly as possible. No review would be complete without mentioning that seemingly the entirety of the staff exhibit extreme laziness and cynical attitudes on a level normally only reserved for government employees (this is less the fault of the individuals, theres clearly a toxic work culture likely coming from up top).Additionally the physical therapy here appears sup par based purely on the lack of results I witnessed - in fact there was deterioration due to the amount of time he spent in bed. Also dont be fooled by the nice location, it wont matter one bit as no one ever leaves their rooms unless a family member is doing it. The times family did request to have someone go outside they waited obscenely long times for the staff to even help bring them downThe Menorah Center is just a warehouse existing solely to bill medicare/insurance companies as much as possible with actual health care only being a nuisance thats provided a the bare minimum level needed meet the minimum standards required to keep this place operating. Making people better is inconsequential, it wouldnt even shock me if it was discouraged so as to insure patients are kept longer (I really hope this would never happen but it wouldnt be out of place with everything else I saw)Its one thing to run the place for profit, its something else to endanger lives in the name of maximizing that profit!Edit: most of my experience with the staff and related comments apply to the night shift

2020-11-2011/19/2020For 4 weeks, I stayed at the Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, NY. First, the facility is immaculately clean with spacious rooms. Second, the food is not only varied and healthy, it is tasteful and the nutrition staff were frequently asking about the quality of the offerings and what I wanted more of; they always increased the amount and variety of my meals. Third, the therapy staff motivated me to go beyond what was required; Im someone who doesnt like physical exercise but was soon asking for more and more. The nicest thing was that the therapy staff encouraged me to keep going and extended my time in the therapy labs; one hour rapidly became three hours or more daily. Finally, the nursing and CNA staff. The kindness and caring nature of everyone was overwhelming. I was on 2 West and everyone on every shift was so attentive all the time, I thought I had private concierges. I must mention the medical staff. I was attended to daily by my doctor; everything that I said was a problem was immediately tended to and resolved.During the past year, Ive been in three hospitals and another rehabilitation center. Im finally home and I have not felt this fit, strong and healthy since my stay at Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing care. They turned a rehabilitation event into a spa stay at a 5 star resort. If you ever need A+ care, Menorah is the place to be.

2019-11-26It’s been a rough road getting my Mom settled and happy at Menorah. The transition from home to the nursing facility was difficult for her and our family. Thanks to the staff this transition was made a lot easier Everyone from the Doctors, CNAs, rehab staff, recreation staff and companions help us through it. They handle all our questions and concerns with professionalism and compassion. She is always clean and well taken care of. Menorah’s yearly family Thanksgiving dinner that took place last Thursday was the topper. Everything from the delicious food, entertainment and service made it a perfect night.

2019-08-25My Dad, who is 92 years old, is currently a resident on 3 south. He is receiving excellent care from all the staff. The nurses, CNAs and all the other departments are attentive and kind to him. The nursing supervisor, Anna, seems to be always present on the unit as a resource for staff and is always so helpful when health issues arise. He has been at Menorah since February and I am grateful for the care he is getting. He was recently put on hospice and the hospice staff are very caring and compassionate.I highly recommend the facility to anyone who may be faced with the difficult choice of having to choose a facility for a loved one who needs round the clock care. Menorah does a wonderful job of meeting residents medical, physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
