Great little bar with a good selection of beer and whiskey and a down-home vibe. Funky and rustic combine with old school jams to create a good atmosphere for drinking together or alone.
Nice atmosphere, but woefully overpriced, and 18 months into the pandemic, they really need to try a bit harder than the sad, sad beef dog, veggie dog food menu. Also, there are various comments online regarding their happy hour, and I can attest that in September 2021, no such thing exists.

Stopped in here after work for happy hour with coworkers and Im so glad we did! The bartender was so friendly and made a point to learn each of our names so that he could get a hold of us when the volume level was high. They have complimentary cheese balls (!!!) and have board games. They also have happy hour every day with great deals. Overall great place, will definitely be returning.

I love day-to-night places that are good for coming in for work and then seamlessly transitioning to a drink with friends and Mess Hall totally delivers on this front! Cheap hot dogs, fun cocktails, and old school shot & beer combos make this a great stop to pop into when galavanting Harlem.

This place is really nice. Not too small not too big. The drinks are really nice and a ok price. The bar tenders are really friendly and always willing to help not like in others bars that they kinda ignore you. I been in this place a few times. Some with my friends and others with my girl. The bottom line is that you will have a good time here.
One of my favorite bars in Harlem. Great casual atmosphere. The bar tenders are all super friendly. They offer cheese balls with drinks upon request. And they serve and adult happy meal for $10 which includes a can of beer, shot, and hot dog. Seriously...what more could a gal want?
Very interactive experience with good patrons. Hallway space kinda small so you have to move around if youre getting a drink and not directly seated at the bar, but once youre situated, its a nice place to be.

Great bartenders, great drinks, an above average whiskey selection. Love the beer and shot specials. Also their veggie dogs taste like real hot dogs, I had to verify they were actually veggie, SO GOOD.
Service was fairly quick even on a crowded night.staff was friendly as well. They have a combo deal of beer shot and hot dog which I liked it. Patio space in the back is nice for summertime. Would go back again for drinks!

The beer and atmosphere here are much better than some other places Ive been. Hotdogs are delicious and theres a vegan option. Get yourself a happy meal, its definitely worth it.
Service is super slow. We had to go to the bar thrice to have them send someone to our table. Cocktails were pretty substandard for the price. We had to infact send one back as it had way too much sugar syrup added. We had to wait for 20 minutes to get the cheque to pay. Would not go again.
Narrow space with some additional seating in the front and in the back. Darts and projectors for entertainment. Complimentary cheese puffs and nuts as bar snacks. The food menu is mostly hot dogs, but they offer some good deals. $10 for a beer / shot (options for both) and a hot dog. The beer and cocktail program are good (not great), but with that said they are among the best in the neighborhood. This is a cool spot to hangout, when its not too crowded.

This place is often packed with a great mix of people. Tasty cocktails, excellent bartenders, consistently good music, and decent pub grub. Great for a small group, if you can fit on a crowded night.
Nice little local bar.. They have a good selection of beers and some snacks. Check out the patio in the back: its very nice and cozy.Only flaw: it gets loud when its very busy but otherwise its a great place to have a relaxed beer and chat.

Every neighborhood needs a good bourbon and beer joint. Plus the owner is so nice. Skinny place. lacks some room, but hey. Need to breath. They have a open back deck!!
Adult Happy Meal. That will be enough to get you through the door. Movies projected onto brick walls. One restroom in the entire bar, but to be expected for its size. Hot dogs, cheese puffs, and popcorn oh my... Very slim sustenance menu but worth the price of admission and comparable to the size of the establishment. During the warner months an outdoor area is available. The crowd is different depending on the night - ranging from the college crowd, after work set or anything that resembles what the neighborhood residents currently resemble.
Great wait staff, Im not sure if this was just because if the time we went, but they only had hot dogs avaliable... would give all 5 stars if they had a full menu!

I watched the Super Bowl their tonight where my team The New England Patriots Won and Marie and her staff was Excellent Dewight was a delightful very attentive to me and my sisters and I will return for the slam dunk contest on Saturday. Will I Recommend? I sure would hands down
Came in for before dinner drinks. So happened to be happy hr, on a Saturday, starting at 4, and actually lasting until 8pm! Just the choice of drinks was A+. Ordered the Guc and chip so we wouldnt drink on an empty stomach and was blown away...by guacamole!! So good. (I personally dont care for avocados...just a fyi)
Great bar with many beer and whisky options particularly. Lots of interesting hot dogs (veggie dogs too) and free cheese balls! It gets busy fyi.
Service was oh so friendly, happy hour prices are great, and tasty little nibbles. Played some Netflix on a projector in the back too. A good time was had.

Mess hall is cool.Mess hall does not care what you want it to be, it just does what it wants to do.Mess Hall serves great craft beer and imaginative cocktails and gourmet hot dogs.Mess hall has this nerdy vibe that instantly inspires you to let your inhibitions down and launch into that discussion of how Hayek really was quoting Marx when he rap battled Keynes.Mess Hall has an outdoor porch in the back, where you can polish your own rap battles and present at one of Mess Halls open mic nights!

2022-02-19Visiting from out of town and my friends brought me to their favorite local watering hole. It didnt disappoint and we finished the night here. A good mix of people, with space in the front and back and some bar seating along the middle. The drinks were strong and the beer was smooth. The hotdog was a nice touch and hit the spot too. They had table service, and our waiter was a character who added to the wonderful night. Highly recommend and if Im back visiting Ill be back too.

2021-12-192nd stop on a night out exploring the area. The old fashion was good, executed as it should be.Venue is quite small but was cool that played home alone 2 on the wall through the projector. My bill was incorrect and had to take some time for it to be corrected which made the experience a little frustrating.

2019-11-24This was our first stop while bar hopping in Harlem. It was really busy but we found bar seats. The drinks were good and strong and the bartenders were really nice! We stayed for a good while and ended up ordering some guacamole. We had some interesting and almost intrusive guests that wouldnt stop talking to us but other than that, we had a pretty good time. Id come back next time Im in town!

2017-06-29Pretty much my favorite local spot. The only place I know that serves several types of hotdogs, a shot with your modelo, and trivia on Tuesdays. The staff is fun and quick with your drinks.

2019-09-08We got coffee next door. Since the bathroom was out of order, they told us we could use the one next door. When we came in, we waited a while before someone helped or greeted us. It was unclear if we had to order at the bar or if there were servers. Ended up getting hot dogs! I enjoyed their Bahn mi and my boyfriend had the Harlem Dog. He said it would’ve been nice if the cheese was melted.

2021-12-17Everything about this establishment was amazing, from service, cocktails, decor and ambiance. My only reason for not giving the last star, is that my husband asked to swap the tequila in his cocktail for one of his preference. They were glad to do so but neglected to make us aware of the $50 price tag. The drinks were delicious but be sure to ask before making our same mistake.
