RUN AWAY - SCAM SCAM SCAM - the worst insurance for a provider and inturn patient. Taking advantage of people is unfair - this company has a way of getting providers to sign contracts they lose money on so they dont pay the provider and eventually put providers out of business and patient cant be seen. The other option is forcing providers to push the patients to hospitals for services where they wait longer and longer and sometimes do not even get an appt with a doctor for treatment. lack of action and This cycle prevents patient with staying on their respective treatment and what is a direct reason for increased hospital visits and increased health care costs across the board. DO NOT JOIN THIS SCAM
I dont know how NY State allows them to continue to operate on the healthcare market. I thought my previous health insurance company was bad. This is worse. Right off that bat, I went a simple annual physical, nothing unusual about it (the annual physical is supposed to be FREE with your health insurance) and received a bill for $900 from my doctors office due to a glitch at MetroPlus. Getting someone on the phone at MetroPlus who knew what they were talking about was incredibly difficult to say the least. The first person I talked to insisted that the bill was correct, that I needed to pay the $900. When I said, No, I know this is wrong. Please put me on the phone with a supervisor, SHE HUNG UP ON ME. I had to call back and go through their awful system again. It took an hour to finally get someone who knew what they were talking about and confirm that I was correct and should not being paying for a routine annual physical. That was just the beginnings of my dealings with this horror show of a healthcare company. I have tried to find out the cost of a simple test since my deductible is so high. They claim to not know what it will cost even though multiple doctors and NPs have told me that my health insurance company should know.In the end out of sheer frustration at their incompetence (probably deliberate on their part) I canceled the plan. Id rather be told the cost of medical care upfront. And Im going back to my old health insurance plan next year.**Just wanted to add that a Metroplus bot is probably going to appear to be extremely concerned about my experience. I find it incredibly rich that now that I have canceled my membership and written a scathing review Metroplus is suddenly concerned about my experience. While I was a member I encountered nothing but impolite service, lies (at best, misinformed), and being forced to run around and around in circles to get an answer. When I was with Fidelis for some years, at least I never received a bill for my annual physical and when I asked what my out-of-pocket cost was going to be for a test I got an answer. I have no interest in running the gauntlet through your customer service experience again.
This review is regarding Metroplus transportation only. It’s very irresponsible as they picked up another route after 2 attempts in contacting the patient before the pick up time. They said they will come back in 20 mins but then they called back to cancel the ride as the driver needed to continue with taking other routes. How come they treat a patient like this? The doctor’s appointment is very important for a patient and they just don’t care. They said they called but no one picked up, but that was 3 mins before the pick up time, at least you could wait until the pick up time. They treat this just like a business, just solely for benefit. Patient’s concern, health, and satisfaction are just nothing to them. They wouldn’t care less.
I used to love Metroplus despite the fact that they raise my premium by 10% or more each year. But theur website has been unavailable for 3 months now!!! They are working on it. If I was not signed up for the year I would have already switched insurance. It is unacceptable in 2021 that I have to call in and spend half an hour on hold just to pay my bill.
Metro Plus kept denied me more hours with the home health aide services. They claim my condition is not a medical one when my doctor clearly say it is. I have cerebral palsy and Im mentally ill and I had surgeries. I am disable Im paralyze on my right side I cant use it well. I have it since I was nine months old. The Metroplus doctor wants more more info about me to increase the hours and when finally gotten more info my hours remain the same. I got 21 hours per week my home health aide can choose however they want to spend that 21 hours. I do the CDPAP. A family or friend can take care of you through Medicaid and get paid for it. I had them investigated by the Attorney General office they claim my M11Q was fill out by a substitute Doctor not my primary care they shouldnt have accepted it. I wish I knew about all these reviews some of it is right many people doesnt want anything to do with them. Some health home care agencies dont want anything to do with them they said they have known to give less hours to their clients. I wonder if a person who is in a wheelchair or in a bed get the same hours as me? They worse than me. If so then Metroplus really ripping people off. Other than that I have no problem they phone calls to customer services it sucks.
This is by far THE worst insurance I have ever experienced in my life. Their mental health department is beyond words horrible. And ALL the “doctors” and “therapist” they recommend DO NOT EXHIST. Their phone numbers are ALL disconnected and their addresses are never real. OR they will recommend doctors THAT DO NOT ACCEPT METROPLUS. I am so sick of it. Do not use this insurance. Their are no pros, ONLY cons. And the mental health department again is horrific and will trigger your issues EVEN more so don’t even bother. They need to do better.
Doctor knows her job. She is my PCP and I am very happy to have her taking care of me in my preferred hospital that is Bellevue Hospital. My insurance company Metroplus is also doing a great job by sending me text messages every time to remind me that I have appointment. I am lucky.
Signed up for MetroPlusHealth via the New York State website, it has high score on ny.gov but no explanation how the score was reached and no ability to review the company on that website. After enrolment I was trying to sign-in for the online services, account management and Telehealth platform. My original reason for selecting MetroHealth as my provider, was due to the Telehealth option, it allows virtual visits with a Doctor instead of actually leaving the house to attend in person. The problem is that nothing works. Both the main website and the Virtual visit site are not functioning.I have called client care of both companies, AMwell is the provider for the virtual visits, but to no avail. I am a top level programmer and I can see the underlying issues that prevent the website from working. There is no option to search for random provider, you must now the Doctor name in order to search, the login page is not working due to error in its scripting and the whole site looks like it was created by a 12 year old. Conclusion, there is no way to locate a doctor on the website, no way to have a virtual doctor appointment. I will ask the the NY State Dept of Health to de list this company so one one else needs to suffer like I did.
This is the fourth time Ive been contacted to be surveyed for my reaction to this particular doctors visit, although I go many times a year. It was a standard, five-minute Coumadin blood test and was performed with friendly efficiency and professionalism, as has always been the case at the Bellevue Clinics for the thirteen years I have been taking that drug. Why this one particular mundane visit should be of such intense interest to MetroPlus is a mystery to me but I will answer no further surveys about it. You have my answers four times over at this point. That should be more than sufficient.
I NEED a dentist immediately to fill a cavity before I lose my tooth. I tried metroplus site and they say that there is zero drs within 60 miles who accept my insurance. I tried zoc doc. Same thing zero dentists anywhere in the 5 boroughs that accept metroplus. I NEED A FEBRUARY. AND MY 5 YR IS DAUGHTER DOES TOO. I changed plans due to a surgery i need who accepts primarily metroplus Ave was advised to switch.. I NEED A DENTIST METROPLUS. AW SEND ME A SENTISR TVST TAKES YOUR INSURANCE
-10 stars, avoid by any menace. My wifes insurance is not working 10 days after it was supposed to start. We havent received a card but weve been given a member ID and told to feel free to go and see a doctor, still it is not working (checking eligibility with her ID fails). Not to mention that we payed insurance almost a month ago.Call center is useless, they have set of 10 sentences they repeat and thats it. You are not in the system, you are not in the system, It must be because shes a new member like it really makes a difference and my favorite Office is closed now, they will give you a call or you can call them...I feel sorry I didnt see it 9 months ago when I received new card without asking for one. Guy on the call center was honest Sorry, we are new. There was an issue in the system so all members got new cards by mistake. Really??? :(Imagine what would happen when something serious comes up. Ill switch us to another insurance as soon as possible!
The worst customer support experience in my life.I did give them a chance, tried to call a few times, spoke with different people and always the same level of response. As understand they cant afford to have professionals working with them.I used to pay on phone I give them my credit number. They asking stupid questions to pay my bill. I want to give them account number which it on bill but they asking me what’s your ss number and what is your ID card number? I spoke with customer representatives name Danielle something. He is so rude. Anytime I call them they all rude. This is last time with Metropluse anyway.
Every month I run into the same situation with them. They refuse to pay for a prescription that I have been on for years, without doctor’s re-authorization, even though the doctor wrote a 12 month refill. Now I would understand if this was a “controlled” substance or something that can be prone to abuse but it is not. I would check into other companies if I were you unless you like spending an hour plus each month on the phone with them about the same thing. Deplorable experience with them.
Horrible customer service. If I could rate it minus million, I would.I was trying to activate (after the approval from NY state of health) my daughters insurance (CHIP) and nobodys was willing to help. I paid premium in advance and somehow got cancelation from ny state of health saying that I didnt pay my premium on time. I spoke with many customer service representatives (Mary, Danai, Troy, Chris, Dmitri, David) trying to explain, they dont listen and were blaiming each other, disconnecting phone calls and kicking me back and forth saying different things (wait 24 hours, then 48 hours, then 72 hours...). Funny thing they all could see that I made the payment on time. So please if you have other options just avoid this insurer.
Horrible, horrible experience!! They retroactively cancelled my coverage AFTER I double checked with them that I am covered before I booked doctors appointment. Also no one wants to take the insurance. You really have to spend time to find specialists that will take it. My doctor told me, no one wants to deal with them, because they have an awful record for paying up. I ended up paying my doctors bills out of pockets, just to not have to deal with them anymore. Absolutely disgusted with them.
I am a city employee and had switched to Metroplus Gold about 2 years ago from GHI. Since then I had a surgery at NYU Langone Hospital in Manhattan and was admitted there twice for treatment prior to and post surgery. I had a very positive experience and was treated with proper attention and respect. Over the course of two years I had also visited other specialists at private practices and had a very pleasant experience es well, except for one where the doctor rushed and seemed disinterested and aloof. But I switched that dr. right away. Hence, my only complaint is that the pool of good doctors and urgent care centers that take Metroplus Gold is somewhat limited. When you need a specialist in a specific field it takes some time to find a good, experienced and caring doctor who takes this plan and who is conveniently located. I had to switch OBGYN at first because the doctor who I have been seeing for years prior to that was not in network. But luckily, I found another very nice doctor who was part of NYU Langone system and takes this insurance. I, thankfully, never had to use this insurance for any long term treatment, such as physical therapy, dialysis, cancer maintenance and such and do not know how far this insurance stretches when it comes to costly and long term medical care, but for standard medical needs, hospital stays, routine surgeries and treatments it works just fine, no different than a fancy fancy schmancy Blue Cross Blue Shield, just requires a bit more legwork in finding a good doctor.
Metro plus offers a very good service, but the service I received while choosing this plan was honestly exceptional .I was helped by Rumi Chhetri. She helped me to enroll me and my friends in this plan. She is responsive and is always available to help. Anytime I call her she helps me out patiently if I have any confusion regarding the plan. She is very cooperative and understanding. I highly recommend her, she is awesome.Thank you so much Rumi and Metro Plus !
Boy oh boy...Metroplus is the WORST!!!! I should have never ever have change from United Health Care. I applied for me, my 25 year old daughter and my 17 year old daughter in February 2018.We all was approved and we all went to our doctor once in the same month. In the beging of this month May 2018 i started to receive calls from them to re-enroll to keep the insurance (why so soon?). So i did... i have HBP and went to the pharmacy to get a refill on my meds and was told my insurance is inactive (REALLY?) So i have been on the phone with all different represinitives and departments since then...every person i spoke with said different things (How?? When all information is in the computer system). I also paid my premium of $32.56 for the month of May and $32.56 for June.(because they told me the reason it was inactive was due to non payment and in order to be active again i have to pay for both months) now i received a letter on friday 5/25/2018 tell8ng me to pay my premium for June (how? Already did that).I can go on about how messy they are..TAKE MY ADVICE DO NOT PICK THIS PLAN. .I REPEAT DO NOT PICK THIS PLAN.Im switching back to UHC..never had a problem with UHC. The reason i switch was a new doctor i took my daughter to to see about her asthma and he convinced me Metroplus was better. Now i believe it was all a SCAM SCAM SCAM. i wont even take my daughter bact to that doc again.Ohh and one more thing. They stopped my 17 year old insurance because they said she works..and she dont..they had my job paystubs under her as if she was the Adult applying SMH... 0000 STARS FOR YOU😣😣😣😣😣
They have the best customer service. I needed an urgent issue taken care of and I thought I needed a PCP change in order to get an appointment near work during work hours to be able to see a doctor that day. The rule is if you have to change the PCP after the 15th, it doesnt take affect until the 1st of the following month. I hung up and was frustrated and concerned. A customer service rep call me back immediately and explained that there are other options and helped me find an urgent health clinic that would be able to serve me today. Ive had Aetna, Oxford and many other health insurance plans and MetroPlus has stood out for having fantastic customer service and actually caring about its members, rather than just seeing them as a number.
Can I give a place zero stars? This company is a pyramid of thieves and liars. You think youre paying for services and coverage that dont actually exist. The customer service managers are literally never available. I once had a service rep put me on hold three times to look for a manager and came back the last time saying Ive been to every office in the building and cant find anyone. It took four calls, two filed complaints, and lots of other threats to receive my ID cards and welcome packet due to a glitch in the system; and then when I requested to be refunded for the time period where I was unable to use the coverage, they said they would cancel my plan at no penalty to me, like they themselves knew that NO coverage was better than coverage with them. With the exception of one individual, Alex, who eventually got me my information though had no power to do anything else, all of the people I dealt with at Metroplus were unhelpful and unconcerned that Im a mom of two toddlers needing insurance information to take them to the doctor. Compared to other plans in the NY State of Health Marketplace, Metropluss price is right. But trust me when I say, you get get what you pay for? Except for the level of service Metroplus offers, youre still overpaying.
I wouldve like them more but theyre phone costumer service takes too long to answer. Theres no reason to be on hold for 2 hours for simple information. Yet its a great plan that covers emergencies, dental, podiatry, basic check ups, and more. They just need to hire more phone operators.
I work at a Social Center for the elderly and Metro Plus is the worst! We stay on hold for almost an hour just to get a run around about certain clients and then when they cant come to our center anymore due to the insurance not paying, they STILL DONT TAKE CARE OF US OUR OUR CLIENTS. We actually encourage them to switch their insurance thats how bad it is
I am a representative in the Metroplus customer services dept. I understand the many concerns brought up in this review. I often get the feedback directly from members calling in on a daily basis. Heres a little feedback from the inside. Firstly I know waiting time can be the WORST start to any experience whether doctor office, phone company, insurance etc. The member base for this plan has grown to half a million and now the staff too has grown to satisfy the needs of the extra flow of members and providers a lot faster.Wait time has gotten much better including a new service that CALLS BACK automatically if the queue is filled with callers. So you wont be kept waiting.Claims regardless how enormous are paid. Many times the issues that cause AUTHs to be held up are administrative issues from the offices and the time frames they are sent to the plan. We do have a time frame to manage your needs which is held to highest integrity by the NYS to ensure your care is priority. Unfortunately due to those laws too we are unable to proceed without all pertinent information i.e. medical records, doctors notes etc. So it looks bad for us however this is a common challenge around the board for all insurances. These are concerns were all working on as an insurance field. Now there are some representatives that dont do the best job of representing this plan. There is no excuse for this as we are the face of your experience with Metroplus. We really do intend on doing a much better job in handling your concerns cares and needs in a respectable time. Please continue to share your reviews as it serves as navigation for us to better our plan for your needs. Thank you all for your feedback.
Dont sign up with this plan. I signed up through the market place with their platinum coverage with vision and dental and I have had non-stop issues with this company. To start, they didnt even send me my card or Id number until the end of the first month of my coverage that I paid for, and after countless calls and complaints nothing was done to return the money I paid for the benefits I was not able to use. Even though the marketplace website claims I am covered for full vision they wont cover contact lenses or fittings because my prescription is not medically necessary. The dentist I was assigned was utterly inept and downright sketch. I couldnt even find the first PCP they assigned me and the one I have now Im fairly unimpressed by too. Cant wait to cancel my plan in November. Its completely useless, especially for the high premium I am paying. So frustrated...
Very disappointing. I was assigned a primary care physician who couldnt see me and told me to call back in two weeks. I was then assigned a doctor who wasnt a general practitioner, but a cardiologist, who ordered heart tests for me that I didnt need. Also, it was very difficult getting a straight answer from customer service representatives when I asked questions about coverage. On average, whenever I called, I was transferred at least 3 times, and the wait time was between 20 and 40 minutes. (My plan was a silver plan through the New York Health Exchange.)
Terrible provider with inadequate service. It has taken three phone calls to update my address in their system. They incorrectly told a doctor that I was not covered for my annual visit, and I had to pay out of pocket when it should have been covered under my plan. They also sent me a card with the wrong plan, and then sent a new card six months later (permy request) to my old address. They have no real processes and cannot get their act together internally. For the almost $500 a month I pay, its completely not worth it.
I used to find this company, at least, tolerable. But customer service is now completely automated. It took me over an hour to figure out how to pay my bill over the phone when I couldnt find the physical bill! What a nightmare. But hey, Im sure you have plenty of business men and investors turning a nice profit due to the customer service cut. As soon as I can switch companies, Im out! What a joke!
1st & for most A lot of places do not take this plan god forbid one gets sick all of the sudden while at work or street etc won’t be able to find a doctor that does take this insurance. I find that a lot of the plans in this category are on the same level. A lot of the services are not covered either 2nd my account is with Amex and they do not take payments with Amex very disappointed thank God I do not have any ailments or have really gotten sick I would have been in real trouble. This year because of the fact that they do not take Amex I will be switching plans & hopefully for a much better one that is accepted from a few more More doctor. Very disappointed one star rating it’s too much I think but for the fact that they are providing some type of services and that they even exist for some I guess it should count for something
I think the staff are very polite, and want to do a good job. However, there must be a flaw in the system. There was a constant flow of miss information in terms of policies and guide lines. It took me hours on hold, and two weeks to have vital procedures approved. Labs who performed services complained also about the wait time on hold. The danger of this is the provider gets a bad reputation, forcing, doctors to not accept this insurance. It feels uncomfortable when an insurance provider plays Russian Roulette with your life. However, the verdict is still out. The first few months have not made a good impression on myself and my health care providers. Maybe it gets better
Get ready to hear a lot of jazzy hold music. Then, give a call-back number. When the automated system calls you back, get ready to be put on hold again. When youre done holding, enjoy speaking with people who transfer you to more jazzy hold music. Repeat. Finally, be prepared to speak with a customer service representative devoid of compassion and spelling skills who reads the textbook of rules as to why your insurance will be unable to help you. Ive never had insurance this bad before.
My review would have at least been 3 stars for the service provided last year. However this year is another story.I had chosen MetroPlus as my healthcare provider which as a silver level plan included dental & vision. I had no invoice to pay last year because I was using a tax credit. This year I did not qualify for a tax credit for my coverage and had to pay a hefty amount out of pocket. The invoice experience was horrible.I had made a payment and they said they were unable to provide me with an invoice showing I paid!I asked why and they said because it was a credit card (they were even wrong about that- it was my bank card & funds had been taken out of my checking account not a credit card & even if it was credit should I get penalized for that?)GOOD THING I PRINTED A COPY OUT FOR MYSELF AFTER I PAID ON METRO PLUS WEBSITE.THIS WAS THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED ME FROM THEIR POOR RECORD KEEPING WHEN AN ISSUE CAME UP!LUCKILY I had a PRINTED CONFIRMATION RECEIPT( which provided proof of payment with Invoice Number, Approval Number & the Amount I Paid via Metroplus website).HOW CAN THIS COMPANY NOT BE WILLING TO PROVIDE ME WITH AN ADDITIONAL COPY OF AN INVOICE WHEN I NEEDED IT?!?!?!PLEASE SAVE ALL YOUR PAID INVOICES/BANK STATEMENTS BECAUSE IF SOMETHING SHOULD COME UP THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU!I saved myself THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS thanks to MY record keeping BUT NO THANKS TO THEM.Worst experience in all my years of dealing with health care providers. Will be reporting THIS UNECCESSARY INCIDENT for their lack of professionalism/poor record keeping/unwillingness to perform a simple task such as provide a copy of invoice that payment was made when requested.>=(Still cant fathom that this was such a headache to deal with & placed on hold all day/passed to mean dismissive supervisors.I just got a big fat no we cant provide you with proof of payment. Huge Disappointment!Side note: They took the money but dont depend on them to provide you with black & white proof of that!
Metro plus gold is the worse insurance you can have. I recently had surgery on my ankle and they denied my request for more physical therapy appointments claiming it is not medically necessary. HOW CAN IT NOT BE NECESSARY TO HAVE PHYSICAL THERAPY WHEN YOU ARE SUFFERING PAIN AND ATROPY AFTER SURGERY!!! Physical therapy is the first thing you need after surgery but Metro plus does not care that slogan youre number one with us is complete garbage. Tamika is the best customer service rep they have she has been the only one to provide help to me. Hopefully my appeal for physical therapy is approved though I do not understand why it would be denied in the first place after surgery delaying my ability to go to physical therapy for two weeks now.
The NON-INSURANCE! DO NOT USE IT!Endless phone calls to get a service, not less than 30 minutes on the phone waiting for someone to pick up, the directory they provide you is always wrong - you choose a doctor from the book they give to you and, when you call the office, the doctor says hes not in that network. That means it is absolutely difficult to find a doctor available right away and, when you do, they are either very far or they work in a dumpster. They are very good only at getting money and cash the checks.CHOOSE A BETTER INSURANCE!
Terrible. OK for going to the ER, terrible otherwise. I signed up with the rollout of the ObamaCare exchange. I did a gold level package, thinking itd provide better than minimal coverage. This sham costs me ~$300 a month for all of 2014, now its going to $330 for 2015.I broke my clavicle in a bike accident in late 2014. I went to the Emergency Room without a hiccup from Metroplus, so bravo for that. Everything after that has gone poorly. Im seeing an orthopedist that only sees people with my insurance once a week, so its always mobbed at his office. This is after calling up several places that do usually take metro plus, but dont take metroplus exchange, as one secretary told me, because they dont pay enough. I see this orthopedist too infrequently for it to be beneficial. Every appointment is spaced out by a month, when I should be seeing him every two weeks. Now hes recomended an MRI. What a disgrace this process has been. First I had to go to my primary care doctor for a referral. In other words, the orthopedist couldnt issue it to me. I went to get it, annoying, but acceptable. Now only about a week later, they have cancelled me referral. I called up metroplus to find out why, they dont know. They can see I had the referral, and that its been canceled, but they dont know why. Theyve transferred me to a company called Med soultions to inquire. Ive been on hold there for an hour, part of which Ive used to write this review. I suppose Ill have to go back to my primary care doctor again, to get another referral, then rush to the MRI place. Did I mention Im paying $300 a month for this?Like others have said, I had some insurance card shennanigans going on when I first joined. It took a little more than a month of paying for the insurance to get the first blank card. To get a primary care physician, their name has to be on the card. So requesting a new card with their name printed on it, so they can accept it, also was time consuming, and took another two weeks or so. So it was basically 2 months of paying for it before I could actually use it to do anything.Lastly, the website is terrible. Im always so frustrated using it trying to find a doctor that I end up calling them up. Their hold times arent so bad, as others have mentioned. Its just annoying I cant do it myself on the website.
Called customer service several times for invoice questions and EOB statement, the call wait is at least 40mins each time & reps are inpatient. I have HEALTH PLAN GOLD-G2, my one-time annual check up are supposed to be preventative care should be all covered, but Metroplus only paid a portion of it. Reps told me they will dig into it, but the procedure takes forever and now my credit is ruin due to I still have not hear back outcome from Metroplus. WORSE INSURANCE SERVICE I EVER HAVE !!!
Im sorry to see all the negative reviews - Ive had extremely good luck with Metroplus - a knee surgery, physical therapy, and I was treated by top doctors and specialists at top NYC hospitals. My dissatisfaction is from going with Metroplus bc they were the only one with dental at the time, but all the dentists that accept it get had very poor ratings, or no literally no ratings last time I checked maybe six months ago. Also, the price increase I wasnt happy about, but still very happy with the company.
Metroplus has been wonderful to work with in every aspect. The representative I spoke with was organized and personable, despite being (Im sure) extremely busy! Im definitely a savvy guy, but when it comes to this whole insurance thing Im in the dark. I would definitely recommend Metroplus for anyone looking for health insurance in New York!
They really need to get it together. They messed up my billing more than once and gave me the hardest time when I was trying to claim my annual gym reimbursement. I called them at least a dozen times and even went down to their office myself. Also, good luck calling them. The wait is obscene and sometimes they have transferred me to 3 different departments in one call.
Beside the bills they dont pay on time for emergency (6 months later after a collector is already approaching me) the dental department has literally stopped working with all the dentist in my zip code suddenly and still giving names of doctors they dont work with!!! I had an appointment with a dentist today after verifying twice with them that they do work with this dentist as this was an emergency. I got to the dentist who sent me home because they do NOT work with metroplus anymore !!!! I had to get off of work for this appointment and of course no one give a freaking fly! Now, Im waiting on line for over 20 mins just to get someone to help me. Thanks metroplus for being the worst health insurance in the world !
If I can give you minus zero I would def. do.Seems that every single person ive talked to there doesnt know what exactly they doing. And here is my experience:I went to Metro plus desk at the Gouverneur health hospital Oct 2016. I got this essential 2 plan, and updated my home address, left the country and came back in 2 month to find no invoices in my mailbox - to get sick and go to hospital by Jan to find out that that i dont have insurance, then i went back to the same lady ive met back in october, to say ops sorry I didnt updates your address, and we have mailed the invoices to your old address and based on not paying your invoices we had to cancel your insurance, I was so decent about it, and I said we all do mistakes, No prob. and I asked what sould i do and the lady said we gonna update your address, applying for a new plan and you going to have your insurance effective by April 1st 2017,March 29th i had to go to the emergency room, knowing that i dont have insurance. Then i called metro plus to make sure that my next drs appointment and medication will be covered starting by April 1st and the guy over the phone had confirmed twice that my insurance effective date is April 1st, also that ill receive my new card max by april 10th and that never happened till now, from April 1st till today ive went to more than 10 drs and i had a hernia surgery last Friday which cost $40.000. and every single person talking to me from metro plus literally saying different talk as if no one knows anything about this place, never ever saw this amount of people who has got no clue about their jobs, in my entire life. long story short, they have mailed me 5 days ago a letter that says my insurance effective date is June 2017, went yesterday to my follow up app and the hospital accepted the letter then went to get my medication, and at the pharmacy they asked me to call metro plus to get the ID and group#, called metro plus now to get those numbers to hear the most unprofessional thing ever Sir, your insurance effective is July 2017 and we dont know who did mail youAttached the mail that Metro plus didnt mail it to meYou guys not even qualified to be a health insurance company in a third world country.
This is a terrible company. Ive called so many times trying to get someone on the phone to address billing mistakes and have sat on hold for hours without speaking to someone. After a few months of coverage with them, I switched to another company. Even though they are required by law to fully cover 1 well-woman exam and one overall physical per year, I have been charged for both types of appointments, and could not get any resolution or explanation because no one answers the phone.
I wish I could leave negative 5 stars. My enrollment started August 1st in metro Plus and it is now November and I have yet to receive my insurance card despite over 10 phone calls and calls to the ny health exchange still no luck. Ive had to cancel doctors appointments and pay for my medications out of pocket. What is the point of having health insurance if you have no access to it.
If I could give zero Stars, I would. I called multiple times, I still have not received proof of insurance. Im switching to another carrier. They were entirely uncooperative and have extremely poor customer service. Waste of time and money. Do not choose them as your insurance.
The worst customer support experience in my life.I did give them a chance, tried to call a few times, spoke with different people and always the same level of response. As understand they cant afford to have professionals working with them. Unfortunately low insurance price - low quality in this case.
A lot of complaints come from ppl not having knowledge on the type of insurance they have before signing up. I am a firm believer in doing your research before signing up with anything. Check your doctor to see if he/she takes the plans ,if not are you willing to see another doctor. Many ppl are signing up on plans because they dont want to have to worry about being penalized and not knowing what the plan cover. Also asses how often do you go to the doctor and what is the reason you usually go. Are you there for just an annual physical are you the type of person that is prone to getting sick or having accidents. Do you have a precondition? what is the deductible. how does the deductible work? Is there an out of pocket max on my plan. Does the coverage cover my prescription, and if not how can I have it covered or is there a generic form of it? Dont just sign up for insurance without having the basic knowledge first.
Have been trying to get in touch with them for over a week and they keep putting me on hold until I hang up. They had no problem cashing my premium check but have not sent me a card or information on a PCP or how to use their insurance. This is what happens when you involve the government in anything.
STAY AWAYReturn business is an extremely important aspect and this one lost mine after 6 months. And because of these reviews, probably, hopefully, more.Remember, health insurance is a business. They want to make money from you. If there is a way to hide a cost, it will be done. They could have continued receiving my business but chose not to because of a misunderstanding. My address was incorrect so I didnt receive invoices. Since I didnt receive invoices, I couldnt pay my online bill (the only way is with a current invoice number since they dont have a login system). Two months go by and I dont pay...They drop me. After following up with the company, I offered right then and there that I would pay and get up to date. Nope. They thought they were being slick as my Drs appointment was during a time in which my insurance was retroactively void since I was two months behind. Plus, according to Metro plus and the Dr, mole inspection (I asked for a dermatologist referral since Im super white with moles....if thats not preventative care what is?), did not consider mole inspection to be preventative care and charged me for this service (taken away from my deductible in which I pay for out of pocket). This was part of my yearly check up btw. This is insane. Hey Doc, does this mole look funny to you? Oh it does!? Damn, Im glad I asked! Btw, thatll a separate service. Thats crazy town.I havent had insurance for 5 years...returning to it has been a terrible experience. My wallet and income hurts the most. Raising a family is difficult and an extra $350 a month can mean an opportunity to move to a bigger place...or bankruptcy through medical costs.Health Insurance is a mess and this company is ruthlessly taking advantage a terrible situation.
Did not cancel my plan for 4 month while I called them more than 10 times during this time period explaining that my plan is still not cancel. Finally I received bills for 700-800 dollars for all of these months. Finally, after calling dozens of times, someone figured out that something in their system went wrong and plan did not get canceled by a mistake. WowBut even after this other problems occur: NYC Fire Dep sent me a wrong bill and metroplus admitted that the bill is wrong. Unfortunately, they do not help me at all in this situation and tell to call myself to the fire dep.
I tried several times to get someone on the phone to ask about my coverage but they were always backed and even though I left my number I did not get a call back. The website is terrible to navigate. The online payment system is horribly clunky and if you dont have your paper bill you will not be able to get your invoice online and will not be able to pay your invoice online. It feels like being back when businesses first started using the internet. I wish I could give them 0 stars.
They really need to do a better administration job. I paid monthly, but they credited my payments to the wrong account. Even though I was paying, I was not insured. Took ages to straighten this out. I requested a call from a customer advocate many times. No such luck.
Before 15 days , I was submitted my all of documents to Selina Bhuyan, but still I don’t know status...I am trying several time to contact with her but the lady doesn’t pick my phone..I was messaging her but she didn’t response...I am suffering for that reason...I strongly recommend that please need to be professional attitude and behavior....Otherwise people may die only for your negligence...
Perhaps the worst insurance company ever. They could not care less about what your doctor says, whats right for you or even whats fair to you. This is nothing but a game to them and they should be ashamed of themselves. You may be better off with no insurance at all. I would give zero stars if Google allowed it.
Im thoroughly convinced that the few couple of okay reviews here amongst the sea of negative reviews are people who work for Metroplus Health Plan or people they hired. How is this company allowed to practice and provide health insurance? My wife has a major health issue and noone falls into their coverage anywhere in NYC. She has payed so much on her basic visits to the doctor on top of the 400 a month she pays for this plan. Awful awful awful.
Incompetent. I could go on for hours but lets just say their system is whacked, they never update anything, and Ive been waiting on my card for almost 2 months now and have been having problems when I go to the pharmacy and the doctor as it says coverage terminatedWhat the hell do I pay for??? Nothing at this point.Do not go with this program if you have a choice.
Just awful. Zero customer service, they dont answer the phone. When you email it takes them days to get back to you, and they usually just send some copy paste BS that doesnt help at all.And half of the providers listed in their directory dont even take metroplus! the ones that do are awful
You get what you pay for. Youll lose in time what you save in the premium: endless waits on the phone, providers who drop the plan, low-quality doctors and clinics operating out of terrible facilities. I recently called the doctor assigned as my primary care physician and was told there is a four month wait to get in to see her. Dont expect to actually be able to use this health plan if you get it.
The Member Service Rep, Jalen (uncertain about precise spelling of his name, in fact, reached out to me to re-activate my Metroplus Plan, and proves to be a conscientious, a considerably gentlemanly good listener, informative, diligent, polite and thoroughly effective agent. His interest and persistence are unparallelled, including his follow-up. MetroPlus is simple to apply and has some skilled practitioners in their network. It is concise, stream-lined and always effective. Splendid insurance, including their top-notch employees, especially Jalen, however I have had interactions with others, similarly compassionate and highly accommodative. Go with Metroplus today!
Since aug I have been dealing with issues with metro plus denying the services my brother needs he has been in and out of the hospital since Aug he is currently back in the hospital metro plus denies his prescription when the doctor says he needs name brand not genetic they have deny n approved home health aid first he had 4 hrs 3 days now currently he gets 5 hr 5 day 2 day 4 hrs thought he has many health issues we are currently waiting on medical supplies approval n mtlc the hospital want to release him n he will be left alone and at riskThere has been so many metro plus workers visiting him nurses from home health aid company from hospital Aps also trying to help n still he gets denied more hrsOnly good thing about metro plus are the workers that have been trying to help him
Had a really bad toothache and when I called they kept giving me the run around then I had to pay out of pocket just to have my tooth removed Im just wondering why have this insurance if they dont cover certain things. I defintely gotta switch to a better health insurance
TERRIBLE HR SERVICEI have been trying to reach their HR department for 6 weeks. Nobody is ever available to pick up the call. The voice mail box is always full. I only keep getting transferred to the HR department by the RUDE male receptionist, only to hear the HRs voicemail over and over again. STILL HAVE NOT CONNECTED
Metroplus Health Plan Inc was one of the best health insurance out here, but since Beacon took over Metroplus became a disaster, a lot of health provider, dentist, psychiatrist etc,do not want to deal with Beacon, in my case I have to switch to a different plan because I have to take care of my health & also because my psychiatrist doesnt accept Beacon, Metroplus SAD
Unprofessional customer service I called to help my pt and rep was very sarcastic and nasty I gave her my name but kept saying “ Miss” like I was out in the street. Seems that hiring process is to hire friends and family because this was NOT by far a qualified person very sad I’ll make sure tell my clients change plans till they retrain or get rid of unqualified staff

2022-05-29I was able to keep my doctor I had for 40 years. Ive had no problem with car service, OTC benefit, rewards program, prescriptions or getting in touch with my providers. Its just the greatest HMO Ive seen I love it. My calls are answered right away, and very professionally with care understanding and patience. Im so glad to know they have someone like Larry Gaston and the people they have working for them thats what make MetroPlus work,!! love it!

2022-02-22Scam and waste of time. I enrolled in November of 2021 for coverage to begin in December 2021, I received a notification from NY DOH that my effective date was December 2021. In mid-December I get a notification from MetroPlus to pay my bill for insurance effective January 1. Before paying the bill (I have yet to receive an insurance ID at this point), I call to help line to confirm that its normal that I havent received the ID card yet. They confirm that I will receive the card after my first payment. Three weeks past since my first payment and still nothing. At this point I am calling every other day to get a resolution and each call they act as though they know nothing about the case, say theyll call me back, and then dont. Dont even waste your time.

2022-05-02I have been a member of this health insurance for a year now. Anytime I need to get any information about my plan or the doctors in the network I can honestly say the information is accurate and trustworthy I am very happy with the customer service I have received anytime I call because the representative is friendly, caring, patient, and very knowledgeable about the information you need to know. Also your call wait time is very short might I add. If you are looking for a new health plan service I would strongly recommend Metro Plus Health for consideration.

2022-07-07I have been with Metroplus for 10 years & am very satisfied with them being my Healthcare provider.I get my questions answered from the professional, knowledgeable & caring agents every time. I have no need to look elsewhere. I may be moving out of state one day. And, just the thought of having to pick another healthcare provider is a little unsettling. Everything I get with Metroplus I know doesnt exist with other healthcare companies.I have inquired many times.

2022-02-18I spend hours calling doctors on their find a doctor in network list and repeatedly hear things like this doctor retired 5 years ago im not sure why theyre still listed as in network or sorry weve never taken metroplus here i dont know why were listed. Its a nightmare to say the least. Budget a minimum of 3 hours to finding a new doctor. It seems the customer service reps utilize the same database because calling for recs seems to elicit the same result.
