Metropolis Vintage in other cities:
As someone who loves vintage fashion, but especially vintage band t shirts...then metropolis vintage will literally be a heaven for you. Name the band from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, or even 00s, and they will 110% have some type of clothing related to it, but most probably it will be a shirt or a jacket. I especially love the enthusiasm and knowledge of all of the staff that work there, and the music that plays throughout the store makes the whole shopping experience better, as they arent playing your average radio station, but some old school song that really just sets the all around vibe. When it comes to the prices, in the end your looking at vintage clothes, so yes they are going to be on the higher side, but I would say your average band t shirt in the store is around $35-$65. But with this, they have great deals like Buy 1, Get 1 50% off. I also really like how they organize the shirts by either band names, time periods, music genres, etc. All around, I am in love with this store just like I am in love with vintage fashion, I highly recommend paying Metropolis Vintage a visit if you are looking to copp a sweet vintage band tee.
If you love vintage LOOK NO FURTHER !!Here’s why.1. They have the BEST and largest selection of vintage t-shirts in NYC!2. Their prices are EXTREMELY reasonable.3.The staff is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable.4. Everything is authenticated as TRUE VINTAGE! -this might seem a no brainer but the market is flooded with fake vintage t-shirts.5. They won’t OVER SELL you or let u buy something that won’t fit !6. OMG the store is ORGANIZED by category so easy to browse quickly and efficiently. Plus the music is great.I have over 200+ vintage shirts and over 50 are from Metropolis Vintage.SHOUT OUT to the staff one more time because they make this place my FAVORITEThe owner Richard works in the store how amazing between him, Romè the manager, and Beccah the buyer they have 80 years of experience in the vintage game. The BEST THING about this place is that they look out for you.!!!!
Most expensive vintage clothing store Ive ever been to. Shirts are around $65. Makes me wish Id saved all my old clothes. They carry lots of old concert shirts, Hawaiian and vintage shirts. Some jackets and overalls. Not much for women mostly catering to men. Nice staff though.
Absolutely ridiculous prices! not worth anyone’s time, or money honestly, everything they sell can be bought online (vintage or brand new) for half the price. bargain bin is full of only stained or majorly flawed clothing. don’t shop here! just responded to my review saying i am a jealous vintage dealer needing to get a life- wow! just putting it out there, i am a student with no interest in spending $100 on a stained champion tshirt. no one is jealous of your ripoff of a business and its a shame you are so unwilling to accept criticism from potential customers.
Such an uncomfortable experience. On the hunt for a new pair of denim, and I prefer to buy used. I honestly think the guy working there by the fitting rooms was high or something. He was really slow to speak, and seemed to calculate responses to questions like can I try this on?. He was really apprehensive, and didnt allow me to take in my bag (which is fine, but when you practice that policy I might suggest having the rest of the interaction not feel like youre being pulled over for drug trafficking). While I tried on just two pairs, the associate made sure to tell someone else I was in the room with two pairs. Not sure why the whole floor had to be privy, they werent rotating positions. When I came out we made solid eye contact for a minute before I finally had to ask if I should drop them off with him or put them back. The sizes didnt work but I was way too uncomfortable to ask to try on more. I would recommend trying 2nd Street or L train vintage - theyre not quite as creepy there. As we left I picked up my drink which another associate had asked me to leave by the door - no problem - he promptly snatched it FROM MY HAND and said it had to be covered. He stuffed it inside a plastic bag, and sent me on my way. Told me he was doing me a favor by letting me bring it in to begin with.
Must stop by here. It is all you want and imagine in a vintage thrift trip in NYC. Pricy but even just worth browsing the store. So so many cool vintage jackets and ironic sweatshirts and tee shirts. We stumbled upon it and ended up staying for over 45 minutes just looking around and reminiscing over all the cool clothes! Such a cool store.
Good selection of all different brands and styles, but the prices are unbelievable. the cheapest, most worn t shirt i picked up was 65.00 and some tees were even more absurd. also, the staff follows you like a hawk and acts as if you’re going to dash out with a shirt, its not comforting being the only latino in the store and being the only one who seems to have an employee “just browsing” 3 feet away at all times. definitely not a return customer.
The selection is honestly unbeatable. I visited from Ontario Canada and had looked forward to this stop for quite some time! I came out with a rare Rage Against The Machine shirt and an old Nirvana tee. The staff were so fun to talk to, it was a great way to spend a little down time in Manhattan. Cant wait to come back and find some more! I could easily spend hours in here looking through the clothes and admiring the curated selection.
Im divided on how I feel about this place. The negatives: First, I hate when a store has a rep just standing there and tracking everything you touch as if you are going to grab it and run out. She wasnt even trying to help, just TRACKING; Simply not a comfortable and welcoming environment.Second, its the prices. Dont expect nothing below $45 (even for the most worn out piece of shirt/t-shirt). For the brand and styles that matters, prepare to go in between $65-$250+Some pieces could easily go for $20-$30 IMO but whats set is set, so I simply decided to take my money somewhere else. The positive is that if you have the money and willing to spend then you will find some very cool stuff to grab. In my case I only needed a piece for a 90s theme party. So, it wasnt worth me buying something expensive which Ill probably wear once or twice.
I love the clothes in this store, but the clothes are super pricey. I was trying to find vintage high waist jeans, and I found them in my size. Unfortunately, they were pre_owned Levis for $75. There are 3 thrift shops near this place that sell used Levis for approximately $30 or less. It;s easy to mistaken this shop for a used clothing store given the way it looks, but unless you have hundreds of dollars to blast, I wouldnt shop here.
Prices are high but exceptional selection. The high priced items are the ones everyone mostly is in the market for. I wonder if ppl complain about the pricing at Gucci or Top Shop, or do you just not go in. Check it out, and if you see something you’ve been looking for and can’t find, maybe the price ain’t that bad. Very helpful and chill staff
Ive been a few times and cant get over the prices. Nothing is less than $45. The shop is well organized but the pricing is a major turn off. Also the store has been basically empty and Ive never been greeted or asked if I needed any help. I love shopping locally in the village but youre better off on eBay.
Hands down, the best selection of vintage clothing Ive ever seen at a store. I walked in by chance, and I swear it was almost like I had typed Great vintage clothing in Googles search bar, and they used their info tracker to find exactly what I liked. Tons of boots, leather and denim. They are almost too expensive, but reasonable for the most part. Im sure you could haggle a little, too. Two stories of stuff so bring cash and time!
Some prices are as ASTRONOMICAL as the Groovy clothing!!!! Yet It is worth it if you collect Cross Colours, FUBU, or other long gone brands! It is a wonderful trip back in time and the folks there LOVE THE SMITHS, MOZZER, and THE CRAMPS...what more do you want in Life??! What else is there!? Stop by, the music is great and the band tees are THE BEST!!!
Always shop here when Im in the area due to the great selection of menswear in the basement. Shoes, boots, western shirts and suits. Perfectly ugly tight polyester shirts. Old Cramps T-Shirts upstairs and a friendly staff of easygoing, handsome, non-hipster rock and roll characters. A+
This place is living on borrowed time. eBay offers much better selection and at half the price,They hang their merchandise on wire hangers which ruins the shoulder section and over time the fabric is stretched due to gravity and this ruins the aesthetic. It’s funny because my son was wearing a t shirt we had just gotten for about 22 dollars....they had same...for $45.When u walk in the place Smells like old clothes too.I think there are ways to override the reality of used clothing smell.Shows me the dude in the basement huddled behind his desk in his office is not in the least motivated or just DGAF.orboth.Or maybe stuffing drugs in the pockets of the Salvation Army -esque clothing for those in the know. And here we are wondering why we all feel like the place is a capital RIP - OFF. Could be a front.RIP will come soon enough for this ummm ... niche boutique, but As an acronym.
I went there for my birthday may 1 and there clothes are very expensive and if your looking to buy some non-expensive clothing or u don’t want to spend a lot DO NOT go into this store it is WAYYY to over priced and the clothes there are not even that cute worst experience on my birthday.
Too pricey... I guess the ppl that have given this establishment more then 3 are those rich kids with mommy and daddy money. Smh. Hey at least keeps the owner happy to stay open. So I guess this store is only for rich kids. If you want to find good affordable vintage clothes, head to Brooklyn area. ;-)
Heinously overpriced, even dime a dozen tshirts and button ups are priced $30 and upwards. staff is rude and unwelcoming, just look at the replies they leave on bad reviews. they get points for an enormous and well curated selection though. great store if you’re rich and want to spend big money to look like you’re not.
Cool shop with a DJ.There are tons of shirts and other cool things.Lots of music shirts.Everything is sorted and signposted according to topics or patterns 👍🏻Its a bit expensive but there are lots of special parts for it.If you buy 2 parts you get the second for half the price!I found a super cool Mickey Mouse shirt there for $ 65. I love it and so the price didnt matter.

2021-11-12This museum-worthy shop of wonderful rare vintage rock t-shirts took me back to my youth, but definitely was beyond my budget. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed ogling the cool merchandise. The only negative thing I can say is that we waited patiently to ask the manager a question and he was talking on the phone for 20 minutes, completely ignoring us. His answer to our question was no, we dont buy vintage t-shirts from the public.

2021-11-05This place achieves its goal. They have a great selection of quirky collared shirts, amazing t shirts of all sorts of bands and other cool stuff, and other vintage clothing. However you’re looking at $100-150 for a (admittedly awesome) t shirt. Their sweaters and hoodies are a little cheaper at around $65 eachPersonally I’m gonna just order an awesome graphic t from one of the many retailers online instead. Tons of fun band / funny / whatever shirts online for $20 a piece.

2022-04-28Loved shopping here. Staff were really friendly and helpful- they saw that I was lugging my guitar around and offered to keep it behind the counter for me. Really cool selection!

2021-11-29This was one of the first vintage stores I visited and I had a terrible experience - all of the staff members were completely unprofessional. I was browsing and landed on a few items I liked, went on my phone to text a friend and a staff member scolded me loudly about checking prices online and comparing clothes. Prices were too high anyway but that wasn’t even my concern. I was surrounded by staff members who added pressure while I shopped and kept staring - completely unnecessary! They seemed to have very big egos and looked down upon shoppers who seemed inexperienced. Will not be shopping here again - extremely unwelcoming. Give your money to a shop with employees who aren’t full of themselves, not here.Just saw the response - really disrespectful and a terrible reflection on the store. I was there from 5-6pm on November 28th. Attached a photo I took in the store trying on a piece of clothing. Do not go here, their conduct speaks for themself.

2022-06-08Cool selection of vintage goods, but terrible prices. Some of the pricing doesn’t even make sense especially for worthless pieces. A used 2017 lady Gaga concert tshirt for $45? It’s not even vintage. A lot of “vintage looking” or fake vintage tshirts were also upwards of 45-65$, all of them lacking single stitch.

2022-07-07Very good staff. Extremely helpful. Huge sports apparel inventory. Remember that these are marketed as vintage not thrift. And is priced accordingly which means pricey for used clothing. Fun place to visit.

2022-06-20Really good selection of chlotes, from military shirts to leather jackets to vintage t shirts, the only thing that struck me the from the first t ahirt i look for it all lays in the price range from $30/$40 to $150. Not very affordable but if you got money its a good place to visit.

2021-12-23Going there is like walking into the history of wardrobes. Depending on your age it is also like stepping back in time in a clothing museum. You can spend a lot of time just looking through the amazing amount of items provided. The prices are reasonable based upon the year contents and the conditions of the items. Very quiet and mellow atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable not pushy.

2018-11-18Great service and great selection. A really nerdy place in a positive way. Prices are pretty high but the second one is half price. The clothing selection is very well curated. Tons of band t-shirts!! Keep on diggin‘.
