One of the best comic shops in Manhattan with the best staff of all 3 locations.....everyone is friendly, personable and helpful! I love the selection of the store, and the toy section is one of the best in the area. The place is pretty well organized. I do wish they had extended hours, but given the shape of lower Manhattan post-COVID and the fact that they have a bottom line to keep to, I completely understand.
Had a Super time at todays MTC book signing meeting the great Legendary John Romita Jr! Truly an Amazing creative artist. I was able to get 3 kool items signed. Classic Superman bobblehead, Superman - Year one book and a custom designed poster I made from him to sign and Mr. Romita loved!
They have an amazing selection and the staff is super helpful! I felt nervous because I just got into comics and I know I was going to sound ignorant about things, but the staff member helped me out incredibly! This is definitely a nice safe space to get away from the every day life of New York and dive into an abyss of hero’s (or villains) !
Midtown Comics is a great place to get figures and comics in general, but Ive noticed that most locations are lacking stock in terms of figures (possibly due to the pandemic somehow). This location specifically, though small, does pack nearly every crevice with all kinds of books and merchandise and truly makes the most of its space. Youll likely spend a good while looking about, which I recommend since theres always something tucked in a cranny youll be interested in!
Great staff very helpful and always stocked with new books only thing I wish they cared better Silver, bronze and a few golden age books. If you read this review and check the store out let me know in the comments what books you picked up and or statues , toys ect... Well enjoy everyone And if my review helped out dont be to shy to tap the thumbs up.
Im not a comic aficionado but I do love yugioh and recently bought a seto kaiba standing figure for around $50. They were open during the recent snow storm and though customers were minimal the attention and service we received was optimal, not overbearing but very helpful. I also bought a marvel mug for tea to sip while admiring my seto kaiba figure, which is quite beautiful.
This 1 star is because they’re are price gouging and charging scalper prices for a Pokémon Celebrations Pikachu Box 75$ for something normally retailing at 50$ and I can confirm buying one at the Nintendo store recently this week as of this review. I will not be shopping at this store anymore. The Marvel legends are also being upped in price but it’s not that bad so I usually deal with it but when this business decides to charge not 2$ or even 5$ more but 25$ that’s where I draw the line.
Awesome comic book store with great friendly staff. The selection is always good here and they regularly have promotions and sales on back issues. It is a little smaller than their midtown locations (so a little less selection) but it is not as crowded and has more of a chill vibe. They have a rewards program which gets you $20 in credit for every $120 you spend, which is pretty decent.Very much recommended!
Not sure where to best post this, so going to post it at all their locations.I recently order some hardcover art books from Midtown Comics and received what I can only describe as the most well packed, well taken of shipment Ive ever received from a retailer. The books were packed securely within individual cardboard coverings and shipped in a larger-than-required box to ensure ample space for additional packaging cushion. Really blown away and appreciative of the care and effort taken here to ship these books out.Immensely satisfied with my experience and highly recommend Midtown Comics. Well done!
This is my favorite place in the my universe. Midtown Comics brings joy to the child reader to the adult collector. The staff are wonderful. The events are unreal. They really cater to t he customer. That have a wealth of knowledge that they share freely. Theyre friendly, accommodating, and it puts a smile on my face every Wednesday when I go into the shop.
I have been collecting comic books for many years and I have seen many comic book stores come and go. Midtown Comics has three locations in Manhattan with this store being the youngest of the three. All are unique and have their own personality which is very unusual. The other two are grander in their own way but this store is more personal and intimate. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable in many of the genres represented in the store. Even if you dont have an interest in many of the wonderful things to buy I highly recommend going to see this store if only to experience what has become one of the sightseeing jewels of this area so close to the South Street Seaport.
This is a great place to get new comics. Every Wednesday, by 8am, a line of hard-core customers is ready to enter to buy that weeks new selection. For popular titles, they most likely will have them in stock. Their back issue is ok. Mainly recent issues. They do have wall comics but they tend to be pricey. Wait for the holiday sales...but dont wait too long...staff are friendly, the customers chatty...its organized, clean. A great place to pick up trades, action figures.
Theres ONLY ONE NEGATIVE THING I have to say about this location & thats one of the clerks. Bearded guy behind the counter mostly on Sundays. He seems like he gets bothered when asked a question [which was regarding a comic book] and flatly says whatevers on the wall is all you get but the other sales associate overheard us and more calmly helped me with my question.Other than that, the place is nice, clean and a lot of selections. The sales associates on the floor always treat customers with kind and will assist in anyway possible. Just the one guy behind the counter.
Visited the store in January 2019 and this is a heaven for a comics fan. Lots and lots of books and other comics and movie related stuff. Comics ranging from Marvel to Disney Donald duck to Archie and the list is endless. You could spend hours here. Its not cheap but not expensive either. Loved the classic Donald Duck comics from my childhood and found some of them here and of course bought them on the spot. Helpful staff too.
Location 3 of the one the best if not only chain of comic book stores here on the city. The layout is clear and not jumbled. The inventory like usual of the company overall is massive. They have Marvel prose novels that are hard to find. Must do for collectibles shopping!
I love this comic book store but last time I was here my experience was not so pleasant. I took my sister here after the movies and shes a big fan of X-men and loves comic books we asked for help to find an specific edition and the guy who was fixing the comic books was a little rude and seemed like he didnt wanted to help at all. I hope next time I go, I dont seem him. I go to have a nice experience and buy things not to deal with rude and bored people who hate their job.
This store is pretty solid if youre looking for current issues. If youre looking for variant covers on current issues, they will likely have them. They have a fairly decent section for trades and hardcovers. But their action figure section is pretty awesome. This is the place to look for figures. They also have a model/import selection, but its kind of limited but not bad.Where this store is lacking is in the back issue section. They have a spot but its not a very good one. Its more recent back issues that didnt sell, is my guess. If youre looking for back issues, their Midtown location is the best place to go.
Great staff and selection. A big comic book store with rare stuff and back issues. Most importantly they carry artsy, euro, and traditional superhero comics (many comic book stores can devolve into hi end toy stores, others dont carry the weird stuff, but this one keeps a great balance). A great rewards program effectively adds up to 20% off for each hundred you spend.
The male employees who work here are generally cool and upstanding, but the female employees usually carry themselves with a disinterested attitude or they come off as snobs. I dont know what their issue is, but I can assure these women none of them are exactly my type.Overall, the atmosphere is pretty calm and quiet, with a nice selection of comic books and graphic novels. But Ill be sure to order my comic books online for now on. Comic book joints are not as niche and welcoming as they used to be.
I found out about this location a few months ago and have been coming every Wednesday during my lunch break. Although smaller than their flagship midtown location, they still have a good selection of back issues and are up to speed with all new releases. They also have a great selection of other items as well. The staff is already very friendly and knowledgeable. Their $20 off $120 membership perk is a great benefit (effectively $16% savings). Ill definitely be a regular here as long as I work in the area. Excelsior!
Great place to go to buy comics and sell your comics for a pretty good price. The variety of comics from comic strips to manga! The place is easy to navigate and the back with its giant rack of recent issues is nice. The place is a little dusty though. Other than that it is the best comic shop in the area!
I felt like a kid again when I walked up the stairs and saw all the awesome stuff in this place. Gives Forbidden Planet a run for their money. Ive workedin the area for years but never went in, but I will be going back often now that I have. Toys, accessories, manga, comics of course and lots more. A SUPER experience!
Great variety, comics for any and Susie assist on any budget. We were lucky enough to be there on Free comic book day and were ecstatic to get a packet of comics! Many collectibles there as well. if youre a huge comic book fan make sure to check out the super tour of New York City offered by On Location Tours, we did it and it was totally worth it!
Like most Midtown Comics locations, Downtown is a clean modern shop, with an excellent variety of toys, new comics, back issues, posters, and other bips and bobs. The shop aesthetically lacks all the quirkiness and charm of smaller local shops, which often tend to have collectible gems that Midtown does not; as its tends to overfished by collectors.Their staff tends to be extremely knowledgeable and can be very friendly, and enjoys engaging customers in comic discussions and debate and all are well read in their choice of comic entertainment. They perform excellently for garnering minimum wage working 40 hours a week and in an extremely busy atmosphere. I was extra peturbed at how long Midtown attempted to stay open during COVID and how quick they were to open up and enforce mask rules.Midtown has their own customer benefits/loyalty program that has regularly declined over the years. What was originally 20 off every 100 spent in 2010 is now about 10 of 150.Midtowns best attribute is the character of their employees, something large corporations like midtown tend to overlook and end up losing some of the best people.
My husband and I went for a signing with Brian Michael Bendis. It was awesome. We spoke to the other people on the line and had a great time while we waited. When we got inside the staff was awesome and meeting Mr. Bendis was so amazing. He was really down to earth and appreciative of all his fans. The store is on the second floor of the building. Its jam packed with comics, pops, shirts, bags and so much more. It was a great experience and Im excited for the next signing that they have.
I dont really classify midtown as a local comic shop because they are just so big. The negative to that is that it lacks the personal touch of the local shop and they dont carry many back issues in the store. The good thing about them being so large is that they get all the variants, obscure indy issues, and have a great website for pulls.
Great comic store chain. They always have plenty of new issues in stock on Wednesdays and their service is excellent. Ive attended a couple signings at this location (Brian Wood, Becky Cloonan, and Brian K Vaughan) and things have always gone smoothly. Their staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help. Be sure to ask about their incentive program, $20 in store credit for every $100 spent.
Great comics, terrible customer service. The young lady helping me both times was curt and indifferent. Instead of explaining the stores policy regarding returns and exchanges (which shouldve probably have been mentioned up front as I was clearly bringing product back into the store) she instead opted to help me try different combinations of products until I found what I liked. Only then informing me of the policy. When I expressed my frustration and confusion I was met with silence and no apology. I doubt Ill be back.
I came here on their first day of opening and I will continue to come back here for all of my comic books needs. It has all of the selection and atmosphere of the original Midtown Comics but without the large crowd of people. Thats not to say that this is a desolate comic shop by any means. There is always someone on staff that is willing to talk a bit about comics and like every Midtown shop, theyll be extremely helpful and enthusiastic. The only obvious drawback of this particular shop is that since it does not have the same size as their main shop, you wont find a very large selection of back issues on site, although everything is easily available from their warehouse and online ordering.
...the preeminent comic book superstore of the east coast, a nerds paradise ...the place is huge and well stocked, whatever you want, they have it; comics, magazines, collectibles, clothing, accessories, etc, etc ...well laid out, very organized, staff is super knowledgeable ...an absolute go-to for any comic book geek in NYC.
Convenient location near the seaport & trains in downtown Manhattan. Nice selection of comics. Well stocked back issues as well as graphic novel reprints/collections. Staff was friendly & helpful. Just wish it were mom & pop so, they would have more discounts on books, like buy 5 get 5% off or something like that 4 people who dont order on the internet.
Midtown Comics as a whole is not good. I am done using this place, as they desperately overcharge for things. They had a signing recently where they talked about donating $2 per issue of a comic sold to st. Judes Hospital for Children. The issue is, they werent actually donating any money. They charged the customers $2 extra per issue. They also didnt make proper arrangements for the artist doing the signing, necessitating everybody waiting outside in pouring rain for an extra 45 minutes with no movement. Definitely avoid. There are better comic shops available in United States that can get you your Comics. Zeus Comics in Dallas is one great example.
Its a large store with tons of comics. But the staff didnt seemed to know much on comic books besides what they have. Just the basic employee knowledge like whats popular, where they keep their books and such. But ask them specific questions on artist, specific books or content and you wont get much from them.
A downtown off shoot of the stolid New York comic institution this is the place to go every Wednesday to pick up the new releases or trade paperbacks. They also offer a lot of non-book merchandise like hats, t-shirts, and toys. The staff is a little pushy for you to buy stuff and they really dont do back issues well but its a good place to go for the community of excited fans buying books. Be sure to sign up for their rewards club - every $100 you get $20 free which is incredibly helpful if you plan to actively pursue a series (or 52).
In the age of digital media, where book stores are closing and newspapers are going out of business, I find a lot of comfort in the fact that these comic book shops have stayed open. Midtown comics has been my favorite for over a decade, and I try to stop in at least every few months. Keep fighting the good fight!
Great staff and a great store. When I used to work in the area, I loved to hop in on my lunch break and look around. The staff are ready and able to answer your questions and if they dont have it, they are more than willing to see who does so that way you can always get what youre looking for.
Midtown Comics has improved for order fulfillment from 2018-2020I had to edit my past review from 2016-2018 and give credit where credit is deserved. Thanks Midtown Comics for helping me get all books ordered online from your website from 2018-2020.I think you even have your packers use gloves...NO MORE STICKY FINGERPRINTS on my books...NICE JOB!!I have never encountered an issue over the years of ordering from the following online comic stores:TheComicMint - disadvantage they do not sell all booksMyComicShop - disadvantage they do not sell pre-orders, you must order books on day of releaseStadium Comics - disadvantage they only sell pre-order collector sets, although they do have rare and hard to find ratio and variants and fulfill order in its entirety (Not a partial order fulfillment)
Any comic fans dream shop. Constant artist or writers having signings. In addition to having a program that gives you a discount when you go over 100$ this location is not as crowded as the Times Square location. Any comic fan can be here for hours huge back issue stock, statues, accessories DVDs, shirts, etc definitely a must if your in the area.
So I go there an when I do the two guys there are awesome but let me tell u about the ladies that work there cheer up if u guys dnt like working there leave geeeeeez if Im putting money in to your guys paycheck by buying stuff at the store b friendly the girls there are so rude never say bye thanks I guess the guys they cos play with left them for hotter cos play girls cause these girls are to damned depressed to be working at such a fun store to the two dudes that work there u guys rock the girls should get docked.

2022-08-17Best comic store....ever. Well, not quite but its very good. The staff look like they were trained in The Androids Dungeon and are suitably knowledge about comic books. The shelves are ordered by character rather than by publisher which makes life a lot easier. Most of the store is devoted to comics, not merch, which is refreshing.

2022-04-04Located downtown a few blocks from Wall street sits this cool comic store. Staff is friendly and store is clean. I am giving them 5 stars based on the selection alone. Between the comics and figures you should be able to find something of your liking in here.As I was walking around you can see how everything is nicely labeled and in the correct locations. Batman had its own section and to my surprise there were a few series I had not even heard of. I will return!

2021-06-02Never gets old... This is my favorite comic book shop for a while now. A few years ago I brought my son for a treat and ever since it has become a huge treat to get there a few times a year. The selection of comic books, and books on Marvel characters is great! They also have very cool figures, and quite a bit of collectables.

2022-06-24I like this location. Employees always say hello, they ask if I need help, there’s a variety of items available. The Funko pop section is often lacking (heavy collector here) but the manga section, which I often check is excellent. If you are looking to check a cool place out, be sure to stop by!

2022-06-28Terrible customer service. Ordered a book online and it never got delivered according to the tracking number. I even waited just like their website implies due to Covid slow downs. When it never came i contacted midtown and the customer service rep told me i waited too long and couldn’t help me do anything. When i asked to speak to a supervisor the rep refused to connect to someone else and when i insisted they stopped replying. I will never buy from them again. Buyers beware.EditThey ended up contacting me bc of the review and corrected to situation upgraded to 3 stars. But still should have been taken care of right away.

2022-03-21A friendly oasis! I love this place, and all the care and creativity that goes on inside it. Leaf really cares about comics, his customers, and supporting local art talent. The selection is really solid and its just nice in general to have a comic book store in the Mission.

2022-08-05Found the staff to be super friendly and helpful
