Midtown West Hotel in New York
Please nobody stay here. Our experience here was very bad and scary. We went to use the restroom in the lobby, my 2 female friends and I. The receptionist started banging on the door 10 times to the point we had to come out. Once we came out, she started yelling at us calling us crazy. To make matters worse, at one point she was basically holding us hostage by locking the front door of the lobby so we are not able to leave and forcing us to pickup some tissue in the restroom. At that point we had told her we are calling the cops and then she finally unlocked the door. Then she still was acting psycho running after us and calling us crazy, losers, and saying our mothers are shameful. Scary. Unprofessional. And absolutely psychotic. Worst of all, the place looks super shady especially if the front desk receptionist has the audacity to lock us in the lobby..
Great location, good price, nice and efficient staff, and a clean room. Overall the building is kept in pretty good condition. Only the rooms are quite small. Its OK for one night, but I would not and could not stay here for an entire week. No elevator was not too much of a problem for me, since I was on the second floor and only had a one-night bag. But this hotel is not handicapped accessible. Anyone wheelchair bound would not be able to use the bathroom. So be forewarned.
Very clean, quiet, awesome staff and fantastic breakfast. If youre pass the breakfast time they still have a few food left for you to enjoy all the time. The rooms are perfect size, small sink outside near the bed and the bathroom very small but becareful hitting your head on the shelf above because it happened to me. Depends on what room you pick because each room goes from small, sort of medium and larger. No elevators but they bring up your bag for you. I suggest this hotel if its a quick stay for a day or three.
Nice hotel for our quick weekend stay. Location was great. A block from Penn Station and MSG! We read the reviews ahead of time and knew the room was small and could be loud but we brought some ear plugs and all was well. It was the perfect hotel if youre going to be out sightseeing all day and just need a place to sleep without breaking the bank. Definitely would stay there again!
Although the room itself was fine and initially I was extremely happy with the service. This was until I called back asking about the security deposit I had paid and why I hadn’t received it back as it has now been 11 days since checkout. I was immediately asked if I was a US citizen or a foreigner, I was appalled at the way I was spoken too and without anything said I was hung up on during mid sentence. This was a hotel that I would use every few weeks or so but they have lost my custom and I want my money back I left the room in a perfect state. And they really need to find staff who can speak to customers appropriately and to provide information. Disgusting behaviour.
This place shouldnt even be able to run as a business. They dont clean rooms, when I checked in, I went to my room and there was hair in the bed and the shampoo was half full. It looked like someone was just there. I went to another room after complaining and there were large yellow stains on the sheets. It is more like a shady hostel than a hotel. Definitely do not recommend.
DO NOT stay here! The photos online appear to be stock photos and far from what you will actually get. I travel quite a bit for work and was incredibly disappointed. The room was grungy and the queen bed touched three of the four walls in the room. The photos of the rooms appear to be somewhat spacious and that is far from what you will get here.Upon arriving in my room, there was a fight going on right outside of the window -- I was on the second floor at a busy corner. That went on for the duration of my short stay, which was all of about 2 hours.I paid nearly $300 for this place and didnt even stay overnight. It seemed incredibly unsanitary and unsafe.Id definitely think twice before staying at a place like this!
I stayed in room 205, and was charged for a Queens Room barely big enough to allow a queen size bed. I really dont know how they managed to put that bed into that prison cell. Believe me, you wont be able to undress in the bathroom. Those plus sized wont be able to use the toilet either, at least, sit on it. (See pictures). Almost forgot, no elevators, so be prepared to go up the the stairs with your luggage. Finally, the air conditioning system was turned off because of winter and allegedly could not be turned on individually. I had to open the window to let some fresh air in. Glad I only paid for 1 night. Absolute ripoff. The only reason I gave it a 2 star rating is because of the location (Penn Station and the Madison Square Garden) and the hot water.
Room we stayed in was very small. No closet space whatsoever. Shower handle was broken. I do not suggest coming here in the winter. Do not have proper heating system and they give you a portable one that does not heat the room up. No elevator, and the window in our room had issues closing so we had constant cold air coming in. Location is good and the staff were helpful.
This is what youd expect for where the hotel is located. The staff was super nice and check in and out was easy. Its a little hotel in a great location. Rooms were pretty clean, but there were some old stains on the ceiling and the floor wasnt the cleanest (with old dirt/dust, not hairs or crumbs or anything). The AC is a window unit which also works as a sound machine to block some of the loud street noises. The beds are not comfy at all, but work when youre tired from a day in NYC. Everything in the bathroom worked, its just old and not too pretty. Its a little expensive for what you get but not for where you get it.
We stayed for 1 week in this hotel. We liked the proximity to the Penn Station and also to the touristic spots like Times Square, Madison Square Garden and the Broadway Shows. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pictures of the hotel room dont reflect the reality. The room was very small. Once our luggages opened, we had to jump from the bed to the bathroom. The bathroom was very small, not enough water pressure in the shower.
Location is good, price is okay. Just know what you are getting... a barebones room that probably isnt in the nicest shape. The room was clean, but also there were signs of disrepair. The bathroom was very small and it was difficult to even use the shower due to low water pressure. There was also no elevator. The staff was friendly and helpful and it was very close to everything. Anyway, as long as you just plan on crashing there, it is fine.
I stayed here for 3 nights last week and it was amazing. Such friendly welcoming staff. My room was small but was beautifully decorated and clean. Would highly recommend this hotel. The price is great and you get your own bathroom when a lot of hotels around this price range do not have private bathrooms but are shared. Will defiantly stay here next time Im in New York!
Overall it was a great experience the staff are nice and welcoming, the rooms are on the small side but clean and well maintained, theres no elevators so you have to take stairs but Im sure you can request a lower room if you need to. The only thing that brought this down is that the beds are very hard I feel that a if they put a pillow top or something on them should help.
What a perfect place for a weekend. 100 bucks a night in a perfect location. Very clean. Rooms are small but whatever. Youre staying in NYC so who wants to be in a room all day anyway? Its perfect for a lone traveler or a young couple. Very stylish. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I love this place. Definitely staying here again.
It was a great location, but the rooms were not amazing. They did not look exactly like the pictures. I booked through airbnb and I did not know that it was more of a hotel than an airbnb. I would not stay here again unless I had to. The people were nice and friendly though!
Worst hotel experience ever! Please know this is my 1st time ever giving a review on Google that is how horrible it was.1. The room was smaller than a dorm room for 3 people.2. The bed was as hard as the floor.3. No heat.4. A window unit in the window was letting cold air in.5. The shower leaked water all over the tile floor.6. The shower went hot/cold whenever it wanted. Scolding hot water out of no where.7. No refrigerator. Not even a small one for a bottle of water.8. No elevator. Climbing a bunch of floors with your heavy bags, not fun!9. When requested a late check out later than 11am he said “11:30”. At 11:05am a man knocked on the door to say “check out was at 11. We explained we got a late check out for 11:30am”10. The man returned at 11:13am insisting on “who told you 11:30?” And pressuring us to leave.11. No extra blankets.12. Tiny/thin/cheap towels that hardly cover your crotch.Save your $300 & stay somewhere else!
The staff at the Midtown West were very accommodating to me. Despite all the negative comments out there on the internet I still went ahead with my trip. My room and Bed and bathroom or clean everything worked nothing was wrong so I dont know why everyone is complaining. There was a bed blankets and pillows to sleep soap Water by the way which the temperature was perfectly fine there were tissues by the bed which I saw other people commented that there werent. And also theres coffee and tea all day fresh brewed in the morning and also bagels and muffins and orange juice in the morning included. Its a small for floor building on 8th Avenue very close to everything if youre traveling alone for business or for pleasure and needs a place to stay for the night this is the perfect place I would even stay a couple of nights. Five stars to them also for being so kind to hold my luggage all day before check-in and even after I checked out while I had to go and finish some work and had an after event to attend they held my bag until 12:30 a.m. the next day very very nice I will be back thank you very much
Very disappointing stay and not good value even considering the lower than average price for that area. Location is great on 30th and 8th Avenue, near Penn Station, MSG, High Line, theaters etc. Our first night, we were placed in the tiniest room I have ever stayed in and the noise on the 8th Avenue side all night was unrelenting. There was no place to sit, no place to place a bag. The bed went from wall to wall. Worlds tiniest sink was located in the bedroom. The second night we were moved to a slightly larger room with a desk and a small closet on 30th street so less noisy. Four flight walk up, no elevators. Room not dirty but not well cleaned. Heat cannot be controlled and was brutal. I would give the staff a 5, they are all very helpful and pleasant. Free breakfast is over at 9 AM even on weekends, so not able to review.
The gentleman working on the front was excellent, welcoming and presented a relaxed atmosphere. However, I didnt stay the night. I didnt mind the child sized bed, or room the size of a closet. However, the room was hot and humid, requiring a window open to 8th avenue traffic. Sleep would be a significant challenge. And that was all I needed. I found another place in the area, which was cheaper, to meet my sleep need.
If youre going to book, use a 3rd party provider like Orbitz or Expedia. I normally wouldnt recommend but I booked directly with Midtown West and never received confirmation or a booking number. I then had to find another hotel, only to be charged as a no-show with Midtown Hotel. You should call to confirm your reservation, dont just rely on the online reservation system! Nice staff though.
I ended up leaving this property after being there for an one hour. It is dirty. Staff are rude. I asked for a refund and they only gave me 10% off. I was so fed up that I ended up leaving and paying double the price at another hotel after finding hair on the floor and residue on the walls. It may look like a bargain, but you get what you pay for!
My wife and I wanted a cheap hotel near MSG and that is what we got. It wasnt bad for a few nights. First there is no elevator! So if you have trouble with stairs move on. I believe the hotel is only 4 floors though so that wasnt even that bad. The hotel was looked and felt clean. A few things about the room.LADIES THERE WASNT A MIRROR IN THE ROOM. so no place to do makeup! My wife had to go to target and buy a little mirror. WELL there is a small mirror in the bathroom but we will get to that later.. In the general area of the room there is a small desk with a chair you would think should have a mirror with it but it did not. I dont know if that was just our room, maybe it had one and it broke and was yet to be replaced? OK, on to the bath room. ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE TO PUT THINGS. The sink is so small we were lucky the bar of soap they give you fit on it. The shower only had a small triangle piece of glass as a shelf. that only fits a razor and a can of shaving cream. The light int he bathroom is dim and is near the sink so youre pretty much showering in the dark. The sink is on the wall facing the toilet so you cant access the sink directly. you have to stand to the side of it and lean over. there is a mirror above the sink but with there being no place to put anything in the bathroom and the way the sink is on the wall its unusable unless you are a gymnast and can bend your body in ways mine cant.MILLENNIALS there is only ONE available outlet in the entire room and that is in the bathroom. there was a small clock radio that has two USB ports. Luckily we had brought a plug that had four USB ports. so we unplugged the radio so we could plug that in. But with us each having a phone, tablet, and smart watch it was a struggle to charge things.SAUNA, no the hotel doesnt have a pool or sauna, but there isnt a thermostat in the room and the heat was cranked up. I understand we stayed in November but it wasnt that cold outside. walking into our room you could actually feel the cloud of heat it was so damn hot. My wife usually is always cold and we had to turn on the air conditioner. Yes the hotel still had air conditioners in the window.(plugged into an extension cord and plugged in behind the TV luckily it didnt start a fire).Over all it wasnt too bad. I wouldnt recommend for an extended stay, but if you were just going to a show and staying a night or two its perfect. Only a block away from MSG/Penn Station. Decent pizza place across the street thats open all night.
Simple, functional décor, and quiet. Yes the room was small and there isnt an elevator, but are you really gonna stay in the room for more than day to catch up on sleep? No! This place is close to Penn Station and local attractions. No cab was needed. I plan to return!
This hotel is NOTHING like the photoshopped pictures. My room which was less than 100sqft with a sink in the bedroom had NO HEAT, instead gave me a rolling radiator, there was an air conditioner taped into the window, might as well of had the windows open. The covers (aka thin sheet) was not worth the effort. There was NO closet or even something decent to hang clothes on. They had a coat rack on the wall with 3 broken hangers. There is no elevator, no lounge, no vending... nothing. Rusted metal doors to rooms that when some open it sounds like the person had to put their foot on the wall to get it open. Definately NOT worth 130 a night. The walls were not even painted..
DO NOT STAY HERE!! I would give them a zero if it was possible. I was trying to cancel a reservation outside the 48hr cancellation time and first they made me call 3 other travel agencies to cancel before finally admitting I booked through the hotel. Then they flat out refused to cancel or let me speak to a manager. Anthony finally just hung up on me. Great customer service. Cant wait for my stay
Strategic location very close to Penn Station, from there you have access to the subway network, long Island trains and other long distance trains. Rooms are small but clean and with everything you need. Very basic breakfast, but complimentary. Overall the value for the money was good, especially for downtown Manhattan.
One of the worst hotels Ive ever stayed at! Paid over $1200 for five nights in this dump to find no coffee pot, no cups, no fridge, no microwave, no dresser, no place to put your clothes other than a small closet with 3 hangars, the TV doesnt get local channels, no desk lamps or floor lamps, just two overhead lights so I had to leave the light on while my wife was sleeping so I could answer work emails. This room really sucked! The TV was anchored to the wall but in a location where you couldnt see it from the bed. I would encourage you to spend your money somewhere else!!!
Excellent location. Room are small but clean. When reserving on their homepage be careful during checkin and checkout. They are cheating by adding additional tax to the offered room-prices, which already include tax. I realized this too late and they were not willing to correct this error.
Perfect location in NY and close to Penn Station but be ready for stairs, no elevator at all. Rooms are small, normal for NY but few outlets for our gadgets that need charging. TV stations were very limited, nothing local I could find. But overall it was a good experience.
Front Desk Employee gave access to a stranger to my room and the guy stole my Mac Book Computer, Watches and Cash Money. I arrived late that night and noticed what was missing during the morning of my checkout. Hotel doesnt answer my emails anymore nor my calls. They even tried to call me a liar about what I said. Hotel employee showed me the videos about the guy entering the hotel, going to my room, knocking the door, going back to front desk, ASKING FOR A KEY, going back inside my room and leaving with one of my bags with all my belongings inside. STILL HAVENT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE FROM THE HOTEL for a PROPER NEGOTIATION. Initially, they offered $500 that I refused because thats not even close to the total of my loss.
Just dont. I booked this hotel through Expedia on the day of our check in we were to fly to N.Y from Kansas City, however our flight was cancelled then we were re booked on other flights, one to Atlanta GA from there to N.Y but on arriving in Atlanta our forward flight was again cancelled, this was at 15:30. Trying to contact this Hotel via Expedia cite and ringing them directly resulted in unanswered calls ignored voice messages, but let me tell you they had no problem debiting my account two days later. they refuse to even refund 1/2 the money, given there was no way on earth we could make it to N.Y on the day or the weekend of our expected stay due to a Bomb Cyclone weather event that virtually shut down New York City. I contacted Expedia who contacted the hotel and they tell me the hotel policy does not allow for refunds post date but all attempts by myself to contact the hotel on the date meet with silence from them. The way the owners of midtown west hotel run their business you have to wonder how they sleep at night
The location of the hotel is very good. Very close to metro station. And a very walking distance to the place. Hot water available 24 hours. I think the rooms and shower were small but adequate. Tea and coffee is available. Theres breakfast in the morning. Most importantly, drinking water is always present. You can fill your bottles at the hotel and go for a ride and dont give water. Employees are willing to help you. The room attendants clean your room every day and never interfere with the layout you have established. We will add a new one to the good features I counted. We stayed for two nights with two people we paid 2000 TL. Even more expensive hotels in Turkey. So to summarize the location, the price, the facilities, the staff and the hotel that will make you feel absolutely welcome with a hotel. Have fun already.
As I understand from New York all the streets are short and with many intersections So wherever you take the hotel there will always be a lot of traffic. In fact every night I passed an ambulance or the police. small hotel, very friendly staff, discreet cleanliness. very small rooms with air conditioning placed on the windows and next to the bed So it is very annoying. almost total absence of a wardrobe and very few electricity outlets. Total absence of the elevator narrow and steep stairs.
Rooms a bit small, agree that it is mostly used for sleeping and nothing more when visiting New York, but a little more space to open the suitcases would not be bad. On the other hand, the shower is good for two! Cleaning not exactly impeccable.Whats nice is the free luggage storage and the water dispenser, which should not be underestimated given what it costs and if you visit it in the heat I assure you that you will need it. Be careful because there is no lift and you may even have 4 floors to walk.
Words cant describe how bad it is. Bringing up the issue that it does NOT have an elevator (because it is warned) .... walking through the corridors I felt that it was a covered building that at any time the costume fell off. The room was small, it had embedded in the walls, the bed almost at the root of the floor next to the window, which had an American blind. The half-square-meter bathroom. A placarcito that entered two jackets. And they finished it off with a sign saying that there was a cleaning sv but if we wanted it we had to ask for it ... and the price, well the price was the same as the rest of the category hotels in which I was staying. Terrible!
Hello, tell you about this hotel that the room was so small that we can not leave even the suitcase lying down, it is old, the sink is inside the room, to make the bed they have to pass over it, there were no closets, although seeing a room by chance if there was mine, or my sons either, they only put shampoo, body thousand, and we had to ask for the rest of the days. The breakfast very basic muffins and donuts, the juice you were without, very small space for breakfast, sometimes you had breakfast for feet, cleaning 0, only good near the Empire State, there is no elevator. the noises of the cars are heard. bad experience.
Too basic .... The unhelpful attendants .... We left the bags in deposit with the jackets and coats in the checkout and when the taxi came to look for us we got the suitcases but not the coats ... and told us if nobody paaba to look for them they would charge us 5 to 10U4S BY GARMENT, BY NIGHT .... THERE WERE ALSO TWO EMPLOYEES MUCH MORE AMBIABLE ... No Volveria .... bad experience

2022-06-20Listen, I’m not gonna lie. On the outside, and even some on the inside, it looks sketchy. Even our first day here felt like a nightmare as the room we were given did not look anything like we were imagining. The AC was malfunctioning and the remote to it was missing. However, I can tell the owners here care. They quickly tried to amend the problem, it didn’t work and they upgraded us due to this. We got a new room, decent size for New York, and a window AC to boot which means a lot for this time of the year. Sure there’s no free breakfast and all those amenities but for what we needed it for, it absolutely worked. We are in the heart of New York for a decent price and a decent hotel. I definitely recommend this hotel if you’re not interested in all the extra little amenities and just want to experience New York for a great price.

2022-04-15Absolutely terrible! I reserved room for 5 nights. The first night I stayed there for 1 night. Smelled terrible but I was gonna overlook it. The next night, they went into my room, took out my bags to the storage closet, and said they were going to move me rooms. No phone call or ask for permission, the manager said we are moving your room. 1) invasion of privacy 2) customer service was terrible 3)the hotel smelled awful. Do not reserve here, you never know what experience you may have.

2022-05-31The location and free luggage storage is pretty much the best thing going for this hotel. The rooms are tiny and look like prison cells, with a lumpy mattress to match the vibe. Their room keys come in a sleeve that mentioned free grab-and-go breakfast, but when I asked the night concierge about it, he said there was no breakfast on offer. Thankfully it was only a place to crash, and the location is convenient for trains to Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, the Highline, and other midtown and west neighborhoods. Wouldnt go back though.

2022-05-04I made reservation at this hotel through booking.com. I arrived late at the hotel following a delayed flight from Houston to New York. When checking-in, the front desk staff on duty was a guy by the name of Thomas. He never smiled and never greeted when my wife and I stepped into the hotel. A very unfriendly person to be assigned to the front desk. Ok, check-in was done and we were given the room key cards and the room was at the 4th Floor. I requested for 2nd floor when making reservation in Booking.com but now we had to walk-up the staircase with our luggage to the 4th Floor which is still OK. After a minute, as we were walking up the staircase, Thomas came running up and told us theres a double booking. So, I went downstairs back to the front desk while my wife waited midway at the staircase. He told there was another guest who checked-in with the same confirmation number and yet told me to proceed to the room and check if its occupied. He said if its not occupied then the room is ours. So, I proceeded upstairs again and went to the room only to find out that it was locked from the inside and occupied. My wife and I both went downstairs with our luggage and started calling booking.com to find out what went wrong. It appears the hotel was overbooked as claimed but I think they gave it away to another guest who probably paid higher rate. The fact that Thomas doesnt even know that a room is taken, still issued room key and even asked us to proceed to the room, is something that cannot be understood. Thomas is a complete idiot, incompetent and does not fit the hospitality industry. I will never come back to this hotel.

2022-05-19I booked trough Airbnb. I was downgraded to a tiny single room, despite having paid for a queen size; the room was not clean, the decor and furniture were damaged, and the bed was very uncomfortable. The front desk representative promised a partial refund, which was never issued. I have been trying to contact the management without success. Avoid!

2022-04-20Absolutely terrible experience. I had a room booked and the hotel canceled it 2 hours before I was supposed to be there. I called them and they claimed it was because they overbooked the hotel and had no other rooms available for me. Now with 2 hours to go before I need to be somewhere, I need to find a new hotel.

2022-02-05Very accomodating welcoming. Great location. Very clean. All you need for a stay in the city...with extras. Definitly make Midtown West Hotel a regular. Easy check in out. Safe.
