My kids hated this camp. They told me horror stories and what happened to them was inexcusable. First of all, the counselors were high school students who cursed in front of campers. My kids are 10 and 6. When asked to stop saying bad words by my kids, they just laughed. When I escalated the issue to assist director they said they will speak with counselors, but nothing changed. Also my son was hit by other campers and ended up in nurse’s office a couple of times, again hinting at inadequacy of counselors to watch the campers. My son also one day came home in someone else’s shoes!? He’s only 6 years old. Again I asked the administrators to look for his sneakers, but they didn’t find them. My daughter was also bullied by other campers. She has multiple food allergies and a girl asked her to eat a candy or she will break her water bottle. My daughter refused, so that girl smashed her bottle. There are no words to describe the anger I feel for the carelessness this camp staff has showed towards my kids.
This year is my sons first time at MBDC. The staff is very friendly and patient and my son comes home every day with a smile on his face. The camp is engaging with fun activities, trips and even has events right at the camp. The environment is always clean and my son loves the pool. Thank you MBDC! I enrolled my son already for next year through the early bird special. Love this place!!!!
Heard from an employee they dont feed the kids real food. Just chips and bread with tomato sauce that they call pizza. Counselors are all teens who dont pay attention to children, but socialize with one another. Directors are irresponsible and incompetent. Lastly the owner Jack does absolutely nothing but sit in his office all day and hide from parents, trying to avoid situations. Please do not send your child to this very dangerous and uncleanly camp. Thank you
As a former head counselor, I am very disgusted by the distasteful treatment of the staff. I was excited by the opportunity to work with children and supervise them on trips, but I was only later fired by unfair, biast, and unreasonable circumstances. When I first started, they told me they desperately needed my assistance. When I arrived there was lack of information, direction, and involvement. No one taught me or told me ANYTHING - I had to figure it out by myself. Throughout the period of this job I was encountering personal issues with family, as once or twice I stepped out of an arcade and broadway show to make an important phone call and on the bus rides I had to made important text messages, as I was later told that I’m on my phone too much. It seemed as if all the other head counselors were allowed to do as they please and I was being picked on because I was new. The other counselors that I had worked with seemed nice but it felt as if they secretly talked about me between each other and the children in our group. Also, they only allow you two days to take off, as I took those days because I got sick and another day was a family emergency. Shortly after I called to take my second day off, I was removed from the counselor group chat without explanation and emailed a day later that I was fired based on “reviews from other counselors and the children,” and my “lack of dedication to the camp.” This camp may offer cool trips for your children, but they treat the counselors that watch your children like dogs! I wouldn’t recommend them for a job or for a place to send your children!
I am a former camper who has returned as a counselor from when I was 15 (now 23). Mill Basin Day Camp sets the bar for camps in New York City featuring a variety of activities in camp as well as trips that will bring memories that will last a lifetime. The true hidden gem about the camp is it’s swimming pool (which is the largest outdoor pool in Brooklyn!). They have a lunch program for children in Pre-School to Explorers (campers entering pre-k to campers entering 7th grade). Teen Quest (campers entering 8th or 9th grade) go on daily trips and are asked to bring packed lunch or money for lunch. The camp is constantly adding new activities on site and adding new trips onto the schedule. The staff has a “campers first” attitude creating a camper centered environment. If you’re unsure feel free to take a tour of the camp with someone who can answer whatever questions you may have.
I wouldn’t trust this camp. It changes to much and covers up its flaws. I have a friend who worked there and he told me a couple things. Including but not limited harassment by co workers, don’t listen to people’s complaints and side with the one who causes the problems. On top a that a worker who kept ditching the job to go to game show and got away with it
Despite the pricey cost of this camp, i signed my son up for camp here because his friends go there and they had many activities that he liked. Now i regret it, because ive learned that the counselors are completely immature and inhumane... On my sons birthday, we bought a HUGE cake for his group, and when he brought it to camp, they said they didnt have a refrigirator to put it in, so they never celebrated.. The cake was left on the bus, and no one even sang Happy Birthday to him, even though he had a huge pin on him that said Birthday Boy. He also brought a disk to camp so that they could watch it on the bus, but it was thrown around the bus by campers & counselors, and they never even gave it back to him to bring home. He came home crying, and he didnt even want to go to camp the next day. I emailed the camp director about this, and he had the nerve to say youre taking this too far. The camp is sexist, they have baking for girls and not boys, and sports for boys and not girls.. DEFINITELY not sending him back to mill basin next year.
Its a great camp, but costs about $3000. If you want good quality, youve gotta pay! For the summer, theres a trip every week, including 2 overnight trips for the summer. Last year I had overnight trips to Boston, MA and Wildwood, NJ. There is a HUGE pool with waterslides, but you can only go on the slides if you passed the deep water test. Theres a gaming room, a fashion room, craft room, arcade room, karaoke room, sport courts and a jungle gym. I couldnt ask for more! Going again this summer! Cant wait :3
A waste of money. My daughter now hates camp. Ruined camp forever. Filthy, smells moldy. And my kid said they take the fun out of everything. Councelors are high school kids, and they are watching the kids. Directors are not really directors they are just staff making sure the counselors are there
Today I was at Coney Island at the cyclone game and I was sitting next to the mill basin camp there were a lot of different camps at the cyclone baseball game but the mill basin camp group stood out the most the kids were all over the place everywhere except in a seat they were climbing on the chairs running up the stairs up and down the workers at the game had to keep telling them to sit down over and over the counselors did absolutely nothing but sit there and let them do whatever they wanted some counselors slept and some just sat around they paid the kids no mind now some counselors tried there best but with so many kids you need everyone to pitch in.every other camp that came to the game was well behaved but this group

2021-08-10This is one of the best managed, most responsible organizations I have been involved with. You couldnt ask for a better facility or a nicer group of people, including the families. I feel safe leaving my kids here, and that is saying more than anything else. And the kids always have a fantastic time.

2021-04-28I was a camper there when they first opened. It was only recently someone asked me where I went to camp. I responded Mill basin day camp over there in Brooklyn. When I pulled up the site I saw some of the reviews. I was really surprised its not 5 stars. I understand parents will have there personal opinion about pricing and other issues with people and new COVID-19 rules. I just want to clear this up with people that gave bad reviews. I went from being a camper to being a worker there. Ill never forget what Jack told us as employees. these kids look up to you as if they were your big brother and yes the counselors are young but Edith as well as Nicole and other directors are constantly walking around checking in on us and your kids. Jack has a set of rules he goes by for your kids. When he does orientation no matter what group your kid is in. No Yelling, Make sure they get plenty of water throughout the day, do bathroom runs 4-5 times a day as well as small group bathroom runs. If they dont have food we will find them something to eat. If we see the parents dont give the kid something to eat. You will get a phone call stating this is the 4th time this week with no food. Today because of that camp I have stories and coworkers that I work with at NYU Langone- Brooklyn- its such a small world because I met two nurses I work with that were lifeguards. They also went to camp and were lifeguards. I work for nursing Informatics Im in the ED and OR depts. have a dual degree as well as a masters. Yes my parents made me work hard absolutely. But its because I went to camp with all my friends and we all grown together. This is no sales pitch. I havent seen Jack in about 10 yrs. I know COVID took a toll on so much To mill basin day camp employees and kids enjoy the summer. When you sign up to this camp its like your son or daughter has a big family.

2021-05-11My granddaughter loves Mill Basin Day Camp very much. This is would be her 3rd summer in the Camp for 8 weeks. Variety of events, a lot of games, sport, big pool, karaoke, cooking, etc., everything clean and sanitized. Big Thanks to all Staffs and Administration for taking care of our children.

2021-07-06The staff is completely rude when calling in and give the impression as if youre bothering them. I was still asking a question when the girl hung up. If the staff is allowed to be rude to the adults, then I can only imagine how bad they are allowed to treat the children. Just lost a customer, but I am sure Jack (owner) really doesnt care as it shows in the staffs behavior.

2020-03-11As a parent, I want my kids to enjoy their summer. I wanted to find a summer camp that will expose them to new experiences, explorations, and adventures. 2021-08-06Usually a great place to send your kids for the summer. This year was rough due to Covid. Too many kids contracted Covid because mask were optional for campers

2020-07-09Do not send your child here! Especially for this summer. As soon as one of my friends went to work there, she has started feeling symptoms of COVID-19. They do not require children to wear masks! Considering they are not as aware of the endangerment it could cause. The office does not care about their workers nor campers. Just themselves. Please be aware of your child’s safety before sending them to a facility where it is nowhere near safe.
