Just wanted to leave a review and recommendation for Mill Pond Golf Course PGA Pro - The Scott Gileta. I took 5 lessons from Scott and it was well worth it!!! He improved my swing 10 fold and has me hitting my irons farther and straighter than I ever have. I think they call that hitting them “pure”. For our last lesson we played 5 holes on the course where we discussed course management, pre-shot routine, strategy and my biggest issue alignment. Scott is a great dude! Speaks in a way where it doesn’t seem like rocket science which makes putting his instruction into action easy. I have been playing a bunch this summer and my scores and play are improving each time. Yes I have a stretch of holes where the wheels seem to be coming off but getting to the range and putting his teaching into practice straightens me right out. What really makes Scott great is being able to email or text him and let him know how you did out on the course and him being genuinely interested in your play or seeing him at the course and him asking about your game and how you are doing. If you are thinking about getting lessons Scott is the guy! I will definitely work with him in the future! And if you haven’t played Mill Pond it’s a great course with great staff!
Mill Pond is in excellent shape: layout, fairways and greens are great. I walked two weeks ago and its one of my favorite tracks in Suffolk. The only challenge was the pace of play. They need marshals on the course to make sure groups dont fall behind. In my case, the cart riding group ahead was 3 holes behind and I was walking. Please help the pace of play and try to keep rounds under 4 1/2 hours.
I am giving them a 3 but it has nothing to do with the course. Course is in excellent shape. Greens are gorgeous. The issue is the starter. Guy has an attitude and jumped on us because we brought a cooler with ice and waters. He yells at us coolers aren’t allowed but then goes on to say no outside alcohol is permitted. That is fine. We had water. It’s 80 degrees out and it was 7am and the day was only gonna get hotter. Cart girl showed up on 11th hole. Again that is fine, but don’t give me an attitude about the water I brought so I didn’t collapse from heat exhaustion. Then when we are leaving starter goes out of his way to remind us we won’t be allowed coolers and how he “remembers every face” so don’t try it again. Oh yeah, still bought 6 waters from cart girl and tipped her $10. So it wasn’t talking money out of her pocket. If I have to pay $81 to play a round there, I can bring my own water. That was my only issue. As I mentioned above, course was in excellent shape. Extremely well kept. If. I can’t bring waters though, I’ll play somewhere else.
Course was in decent shape, we played last week on the Friday the Holiday. It was $82, a little over priced for 2 reasons.1. Rangers didn’t keep up in the slow play , guys in front of us were hitting 2 and 3 shots off the tee box until we finally told them to pick up the pace.2. The GPS in the carts stopped working on the 7th hole and never came back. We reported it and they said just rest it using the button in the back, but it didn’t reset . IMO, only worth about $65
Nice people throughout, discount card available for Brookhaven residents. Course is interesting and challenging, tees and greens in good shape. Enclosures on carts this time of year (December) would be nice but otherwise a great place to play. They have a substantial driving range and a decent purring green. I play here often and always enjoy it. One note, after ant period of heavy rain there are no carts allowed on the course. Its understandable but the course is, in my opinion anyway, a tough walk.
The starter has a bad attitude. It was 90 degrees, high humidity and they have issues with a small cooler with water and ice. They say, we dont want people bringing alcohol. Then change your policy to, no outside alcohol. Your cart girl doesnt show up until the 11th hole, so dont punish people for trying to stay hydrated.
Mill Pond is a favorite course. Excellent green conditions, super friendly staff (from grabbing your clubs from your car to easy start), and an overall fun experience. Depending on how you manage the fescue and the wind, you can score on most holes if played smart. Expect a long round time if windy.
One of the top public golf courses on Long Island. I much prefer this course over swan or spring lake. Great condition with a setup that allows the golfer to score well especially from the white tees. The course is well staffed with friendly workers. From the starters to the rangers to the cook at the turn, you can tell they are managed well and make the effort to excel in service.
This is a great golf course from the friendly guys that check you in and load the golf carts to the pro shop staff. The food is marginal at best and the fact the restaurant lets employees who smoke sit outside in customer tables was a big disappointment. Bottom line, a great place to golf and a louse place to eat.
Justcame back today 6/4/19from a group lunch at Mill Pond in Medford NY and what a disappointment! Menu extremely limited, mostly salads with chicken or tuna and that was not very good and small for an entree. Desert, nothing to choose from cookies or a brownie and that’s it. Will not goback; too bad, place is nice!
✍🏻It being my boyfriend whom plays the course and speaks VERY HIGHLY of it’s EXCELLENCE.....What greater than a purchase of an AFFORDABLE ROUND ON IT’S PRISTINE GREEN’S. ⛳️I got ahead of THE GAME FOR THE GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT GIVING...(HOWEVER, GREAT IDEA FOR ANY GIFT GIVING , OR JUST TO SAY I LOVE YOU...TO THE MAN YOU LOVE ).....I LOVE IT!!!SURELY I KNOW.....HE’Ll LOVE IT AS WELL!! 🏌️🎩
Terrible golf course. Everything is uneven. Grass in horrific condition. The fairways are uneven. There is no flat land. Even spot your ball ends up, is an uneven stance lie. Even the tee box is uneven. Not very consistent since you can’t even stand straight on any shot.
I played Mill Pond yesterday 6/28/14 at 11:28. It was not an enjoyable experience. We got out 20 minutes late which was understandable at that time.I played the white tees and you could see that they were in terrible shape. BUT they were nothing like the yellow tees that were played with 2 of my partners. The yellows are a joke, They are all angled and uncut. Your WORST LIE should not be on tee. And they were all like that. Then on the 4 th hole, Par 3 We waited 20 minutes to tee off which actually got worse on 5. There were 4 groups on a 300 yd par 4. Almost decided to leave. Then to top it all off while waiting to hit my second shot some moron pulls up from another hole with a radio blasting in his cart. when I asked him to turn it off he challenged me to a fight. There are signs saying no coolers but this jerk was drunk already and had a full cooler of beer. What do the rangers do???? I saw him driving around all day but I also heard the radio ALL DAY. We are done with Mill Pond. Long island is loaded with great course and Mill Pond used to be one. Not anymore. Dont bother unless your looking for a day of agravation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall a nice course. The fescue makes it difficult to find ball of off fairway on many holes. This slows the pace of play as many golfers are looking for balls. Carts have not had GPS this year and I don’t remember gps last summerPlay was 4.5 hours last week. Starter is organized.

2022-06-21One of my favorite golf courses to play. Conditions are always great, soft bunkers, and firm greens. My dad, little brother and I all take lessons with Coach Scott, and the improvements all around the course have been great for all three of us. The carts all have GPS. The staff is all very friendly. Great course layout. Cant wait to come back and play here with my family again on Sunday! Here is a cool picture I got of my friend on the 18th hole last season.

2022-06-25Never played there before. I am not a fan of links golf but this was fun. Course in great shape. Very friendly and helpful staff - from the sign in desk to the starters to the guys who handle the golf carts. Greens VERY tough to read for someone who has never seen them before - cost me a couple of strokes - but they are large and it was challenging. Expect to spend some time in the sand - typical of links golf. Par 3s were fun, especially for a senior, like me, who plays from the Gold tees. Will definitely be back there at some point

2022-07-15Played this course after a year with the hopes that things had improved. We had a 6 hour and 10 minute round - nothing has changed. Such a shame - the course is a great course but the management, rangers (or lack thereof) have ruined the place. This is the only course in Suffolk county that takes this long to play. If you wish to waste your entire day being aggravated and frustrated, not to mention not being able to gain any rythm to your game, by all means, play here, but you wont see me anymore.

2021-09-14Course was beautiful, greens a little fast, but my foursome and I were yelled by whoever was in charge of the course for playing “slow”. It is by no means an easy course and we are not professionals, however we finished the course in 4 hours and 20 minutes. Group in front of us was sent out 25-30 minutes before us and we were berated because we had 2 holes between us and the group in front of us. Very disappointing for such a nice public course.

2021-05-05Great course, love the layout. Inland links style. Pro shop folks are terrific, everyone seems to genuinely want to help you. Id suggest they get some Milk Pond hats and visors, but what do I know. The bar food is very good as well. My only complaint was I didnt get to see the bev cart enough, but that was probably a good thing 😁

2022-05-04Always a nice course, but currently overpriced with aerated greens.
