The food is mediocre, but not bad, and the prices are perfect. This cash-only family restaurant can get busy on a weekend morning, but it is worth a few minutes wait for good food at great prices. I am particularly fond of the cozy two-seat booth in the corner that only faces one direction.Instead of spending lavishly on a meager brunch next weekend, come to Mini Star and eat to your hearts content in a cozy, familiar atmosphere. Just remember to bring cash.

Small corner diner. Food is good service is fantastic. Whether its breakfast or lunch, Minis is a solid choice. We often order for pickup on our way to the bus or subway, I start to give my order and the owner rattles off the rest to make sure it hasnt changed since last week. Highly recommend.
The waiter charged me and my boyfriend almost $6 for a side of onion rings when its $2. We order a cheeseburger deluxe which comes with fries and a side of onion rings which in the menu says its $2. So we tell the waiter that and he says its not his fault that we order that. He made a mistake taking the order and we had to pay $6 for onion rings. Then he was rude to me and my boyfriend because we told him so and the manager said he couldnt do anything about it. It sucks because weve been there many times and we like the place and the food and thats the first time we see that waiter.
My go-to for quality diner fare at bargain diner prices. Great atmosphere, and beautiful views of the neighborhood. Staff is super-friendly. If there were more stars to be given, theyd get them from me. 10/10
Breakfast was great. So was lunch. Great waiter/waitress both times. Outdoor seating availiable but limited and a lil cramped. They work with the space they have though. Will be going back
Probably the worst diner i had in my life. First off this senile woman got my order wrong, asked for buffalo got regular wings. Food was below average, waited 15 minutes for pancakes, and worse of all the server was racist!!!
Love this diner. Nothing fancy or interesting on the menu. Just crispy waffles, great corned beef hash and delicious home fries. The service is good and friendly.
Its a warm and tasteful place to have breakfast, (thats what I went for). Food was good and portions were big. Service was great. Im coming back, definitely.

The food was going good at one point. Today had the worst experience. Placed a order for me and the family. Im literally 2 blocks away. My french fries and Belgium waffle was soggy no good number one. Second also order two eggs with french fries and bacon. First strip of bacon I start to eat. There is a long hair coming out of it. That did it for me. Never again.

It was my first time and last time at Mini star diner. It is NOT clean, the waitress used the same dirty cloth over and over again on the tables and wiped her hands on her pants. The utensils are disgusting (look at them closer). The potatoes were hard, the eggs were runny and the toast were burned. Tried talking to one of the owners (older heavy woman with salt & pepper hair) only to get a bad attitude. News to you ladies my money is good everywhere, dont act as if you are doing your customers a favor, they are the ones that keep you open!!
Great lil diner! Its been an fixture since I can remember - with the same owners (Im pretty sure). I love to see that its usu v busy in there - love this place and always want it to do well. 5 stars for diner food and the back-in-the-day feel... Im definitely a nostalgia customer.
This is a cozy little diner with good food and great service. The best part is that it is very reasonably priced. Two people can have a full breakfast at under $20, and it is always reliably good quality and well prepared.
Small diner with smaller than average diner menu but they have Greek standards: souvlaki, gyros, etc. Good food. Clean place. Greek lady owner was helping a little old lady with really bad osteoporosis pick the right donut, just soft enough for her. Local businesses are vital for the community to keep vulnerable people engaged.
The waiter we got was lazy and not interested in working. I was not happy. Food is ok, nothing to brag about. Staff is ok. Hard to get seat since the diner is small in comparison to other diners. A lot of people come here. Diners are like a diamond in the ruff in Astoria.
Is Mini Star closed for good? I wish the owners would update us. Miss the place!

For those who would like healthier options, a substitution of a slice of tomato and some lettuce instead of home fries and toast seems reasonable. Actually, almost all diners will extend this courtesy. Not this one. Besides, which is more expensive? The answer: the disappointed customer.
Ive been here several times over the past few years. The service is friendly and the food comes out fast. The prices are very good. The ambiance is straight up diner. Cash only.
Ive only gotten egg dishes here, and for the price its one of the better deals in Astoria. I prefer the mashed potatoes to the French fries, but both are good. Cash only, so come prepared.

The staff has no idea about health laws! I went there today with a friend who is a germaphobe and their fork was dirty with dried up food on it... he asked for a plastic fork and they refused even after he told them that he is a germaphobe thus discriminating his medical handicap. The food wasnt that great either! My friend had to eat his food with his fingers all in the while they were laughing. Also, they do not accept credit cards which is a form of tax evasion!#nyhealthdepartment#irs

I regreted giving this place another chance, it is the WORST!!!! Its not just the the tables are not so clean and that you dont see anybody washing hands but the customer service is awful, the two old woman there seem soo angry & miserable all the time and they project it to the customers. By the way the food is not good either.
I went with my 75 year old mother, there was one table available that seated 4 people, a very intelectually challenged woman told us my old mother HAD TO SIT AT THE BAR!!!! how ignorant can they be to ask a senior citizen to clim on a bar stool. One day you and your parents will be old, life will give you back the same kidness you are given to others now. There are times to make exceptions, this was it!!!!!

The same waitress who served our food just finished clearing the dirty table next to us with no gloves and did not wash her hands. Theyre supposed to have busboys for clearing and wiping down the tables. It is not sanitary to serve food with dirty hands.
Its a nice place, great service, if you like the retro diner scene, this is the place for you. The food is good but not the best in the neighborhood.

This is one of the few old school breakfast places left in Astoria. The place is small and there might be a wait but the food is good and the service is nice.
Very small and can get quite busy on the weekends but food came super fast and host was very sweet.

Huge and very good pancakes. Large quantities. It may seem expensive but with one breakfast you eat two. Very good deal. They speak Spanish.

Regulating the truth is not a place quite pleasant because of the hot air conditioning and the attention is not very good there are other things that you have to wait outside or on a cilla so that the family or the person who waits after feeling it They do for that I find it humiliating and disrespectful some Italians sat for a moment and as they did not ask yet they were taken out of the place to go to a place to be treated with ipocrecia!

2022-03-28I have eaten here many times over the years. The food is excellent with a wide selection and they always make the customer feel welcome and appreciated. I walked by not long ago and it was closed but Im hoping they will open again soon. I miss this diner so much. It is a real authentic NY diner and a treasure in the neighborhood.

2021-03-30Mini Star beats any IHOP or Waffle House in my book. Its a New York diner through and through. Hearty selections, along with tasty lighter fare, this indoor-outdoor diner is a nice place for a quick and enjoyable breakfast or lunch. Their ample breakfast specials are the best in the neighborhood. Eggs cooked to perfection, and their coffee is not bad at all. The service is quick and friendly.

2018-03-20Fond memories of breakfasts with family and friends in the Mini Star during my first trip to New York back in 2005. I had the opportunity take a trip down memory lane and revisit the Mini Star in September 2017. Hoping to revisit again this coming summer.

2019-03-31Friendly and attentive service. Can get a bit busy but usually only during prime lunch time and food still comes fast. Decent prices for classic diner food and feel. Food tasted good, wished the fries came with salt and the meat was a bit less dry but still good. Cash only so be sure to bring cash with you. Lots of menu options so I would definitely come back to try other items.

2019-11-03This place is normally amazing and Id normally give five stars but I just went this morning and had a horrible waiter. He let my food sit out for 15 mins because he was too busy eating his own breakfast. By the time he served it to me the whole thing was ice cold. The place is normally an awesome and cheap diner for breakfast especially, but today made me not want to go back. I hope thats not the way this diner is heading as it was a gem. I didnt eat the food because it was cold and because I was too annoyed about the guy having his own picnic rather than doing his job.

2019-09-05I been going there since I was a kid. In my opinion they have very friendly and attentive employees, including the owners. It can get busy during rush our but its worth it. Prices are very reasonable and foods are delicious. I do enjoy their gyro deluxe and cheese burger. I only wish they accept credit/debit cards. Just like i said owners are very friendly, they always say hi even when they see me walking by.
