As a mother, I went crazy when I found out that my baby needed to have a scalp surgery due to an accident. When I went to see Dr. Mittler for the first time, I was really nervous, concerned and confused but Dr. Mittler and his staff were very professional, before, during and after the surgery. Dr. Mittler made everything go so easy, hes such a wonderful doctor and person. Now, my son is 2 years old and hes 100% in good health. Thank you very much Dr. Mittler; youre the best doctor I could ever find.
Dr. Mittler, I want thank him for everything he did for my daughter. In such a trying time with having my little one. She had craniosynostosis and on top of that a rarer diagnosis. My wife and I weren’t coddled. He was direct, straight forward and confident. His work is unmatched we felt reassured informed and placed the same confidence in his ability to basically perform brain surgery (as he put it mainly cosmetic ) on our 1 year old daughter. Almost a year later the results are amazing my daughter is doing so well and looking as beautiful as ever post op visit recently and the surgery scar is barely visible. We thank you and spread your praises Dr. Mittler. The Leslies
I am in tears just writing this review... Dr. Mark Mittler, not only is he a GREAT surgeon, but the kindness and love he shows his patients.... PRICELESS!!! You probably will not believe this (still crying) but he performed two brain surgeries on my daughter when she was 5 years old and again when she was 6 years old. He and his team were AMAZING to say the least. She is now 21 years old just graduated from college with her BA and just started graduate school. We write and send pictures to Dr. Mittler every year or so. Tonight I am sending him a graduation picture and a card. I will never forget him, I know that the Lord sent him to our family. In every card I thank him like he just did the surgeries yesterday!! LOL It was a very serious surgery she had...he held our hands through it all even the healing process. Then after the healing. I didnt want her to do anything but sit still and stay inside safe. He called me into his office for a meeting per my husband. Mom, dont rob her of her childhood. Let her enjoy it. It changed my entire mindset.. I let her enjoy it. Before the surgeries she was in dance classes. After the meeting I let her return. Here is a picture maybe a year after the surgery. Still in tears... so many years later, Thank you Dr. Mittler, you are the real deal!!!
If I could give this doctor a 50/50 I would. Doctor mittler is one of the most dedicated doctors I’ve seen to this day. I had a recent surgery on March 18 and since the first sentence doctor Mittler made me feel confident that everything was going to be okay. I needed to get parts of an old tumor called Medullblastoma and he got everything out, i cant stress this enough you’re in great hands!!
This review is long overdue….our son Maximus at the age of 4 months was referred to Dr. Mittler by our pediatrician, after she suspected Max had craniosynostosis. Dr. Mittler confirmed the diagnosis and provided us with all of our options. Given the effects of this diagnosis we decided to go ahead with surgery. During this terrifying time Dr. Mittler was patient, kind, and supportive. He explained everything and answered all of our questions. On the day of surgery, he provided us with support both pre and post operation that was beyond what we could have ever expected. Not only is Dr. Mittler one of the most brilliant doctors out there but he is a genuine decent human who cares greatly for his patients. We cannot thank Dr. Mittler enough for all he has done for our son Max to help ensure he leads a great life. Max is now 18 months and you would never know he had surgery. Dr. Mittler will always have a place in our hearts!
Dr mittler is one of the most amazing doctors I have ever met. Besides his professionalism as a neuro surgeon, he has a heart of gold. The way he deals with each patient as if it were his own child, either before, during or after the surgery is something I will never forget. Thank you Dr Mittler!
So if youre looking for a highly skilled surgeon, Im sure this is your guy. My pediatrician speaks highly of his surgical skill and says that he is a genuinely caring doctor, giving examples of doing things on his vacation time to help patients. I dont doubt that all of this is true as I have a very high regard for my pediatricians opinion. The front desk staff / nurses, the ones that I have encountered, are also very nice and have excellent customer service skills. The appointment ran mostly on time and they seem to value that in the office as my appointment was rescheduled in advance to make sure the doctor wouldnt be running late and cause a back-log. Very organized and considerate on the part of the office and the doctor. The staff was also very understanding of us having to walk around 11 month old around the halls as he was getting fussy, so they clearly have good understanding/skills with children of all ages. However, if youre looking to consult about a potential problem and get detailed answers from someone who will go out of their way to help you understand their diagnostic and prognostic assessments and why/how they are coming to this conclusion, this was unfortunately not an experience that I had.He gave us what I believe to be accurate diagnosis after doing my own research about my sons condition (in quotes because its benign/within normal limits). That being said, he became defensive when I asked him to explain and seemed to interpret my questions to try to guide him to helping me understand as questioning his knowledge or experience on the subject. For example, I tried to ask about when doctors use CT scans to diagnose or not and why he was choosing not to do so in my sons case. I didnt want a CT scan for my son if it wasnt necessary, and said this to him. However, I was aware that many doctors do order CT scans in diagnosing things in the realm of my sons potential issue and wanted to better understand his choices/assessments. He interrupted me halfway through my question and said flatly Im not ordering a CT scan, instead of, perhaps, explaining why some doctors order them or not, what the threshold is in the research and/or in his practice for ordering them or not, and why my sons situation does not meet that threshold and reasons why he wouldnt recommend it. Basically, he wanted me to just trust him and his years of experience and even said as much at one point in our conversation. However, for someone who considers themselves intelligent, understands how to read and interpret studies informing evidence based practice, and believes in and understands concepts of informed consent, his citations of me, myself, and I as reasons why he assessed what he did about my son were not enough for me.I left feeling talked down to, not taken seriously, & frustrated that I had to do my own research to understand my sons situation, especially since thats part of what my insurance and my co-pay was paying forin being seen for a consultation/follow-up.I also did not appreciate that, in his note to my sons pediatrician about our visit, he went out of his way to reframe my questions to try to understand as anxiety and referred to me that way in the formal note that is now in my sons file at both his office as well as my sons pediatricians office. It is inappropriate and frankly, in my opinion, outside his scope of practice as he is not a psychiatrist or any sort of mental health specialist. He also wrote in his note that he was dictating it in our presence, which he most definitely did not. Otherwise, I would have expressed my objections to reframing my questions as a high level of anxiety and insisted that he remove that reference.I will say that I respect & appreciate that the office and/or Dr. Mittler sends out the summary notes to patients so that they can be aware of what is on file & keep it for later reference. In the absence of a universal medical record, it is important for patients to be able to have records to take to different providers. I hope they keep this up.
I dont think there are enough words to say how thankful I am. Dr. Mittler was nothing but patient, kind, caring, I could go on and on. When we found out our 10yr old had chiari malformation, it was a bit nerve wrecking. We were referred to Dr Mittler, and from day 1 he assured us she would be fine. Surgery was successful, she is super happy with her results, as are we. I believe that Dr. Mittler is hands down the best. Forever Greatful....
Let me just keep it simple. Dr. Mittler saved my sons life. Thats really all that needs to be said, but let me elaborate. Walking into the office of a neurosurgeon oblya day after you found out that they found a tumor in your five year old sons brain was perhaps the hardest thing I have ever done. I felt as if the 50 foot hallway was 50 miles. When you enter Dr. Mittlers exanibaexam room you see that it is littered with awards, articles and commendations for hus work. Seeing that makes you a little at ease; then you tense up as the door opens and he enters the room and right away your first line of defense falls once he turns to you and flashes his confident smile and tells you that your son will be okay. YoulYo believe him, trust me. Then as the news of the diagnosis gets harder to hear you are oddly comforted by Dr. Mittlers confidence, knowledge and his ability to explain this frightening situation in a way that constantly reassures you that all will be okay. You believe him. Then the day of the surgery comes and you see him again and again you feel a little better, but youre still terrified. Then out comes Dr. Mittler and shares the amazing news that hes going to be okay and in a way, hr makes you whole again.Thank you Dr. Mittler. You saved my boy. You saved me.
This is the doctor that saved my daughter Elizabeths life in 2014. An abscess had settled near my daughters brain stem. She was paralyzed on her right side. She was having seizures. Dr. Mittler and his team at Cohens Childens Hospital performed two brain surgeries on my daughter in July of 2014. She spent the next seven months in rehabilitation hospitals learning to walk and talk and eat again. Almost two years later, my daughter is walking with a walker, and walking short distances on her own. She regained much of her memory and all of her movement on her right side. She is back in school, learning and laughing with her friends. But most of all, she is alive and back home with her family. Thank God for Dr. Mittler, his skill, his team, and his kindness that he showed our family while Elizabeth was at Cohens Childrens Hospital.

2022-05-24I recently overheard a Dr. recommending this surgeon to a family and thought it was important to contribute this experience so that other families will be able to make a fully informed & unbiased decision about their child’s care.I had my surgery as a teenager. I ended up waiting several hours day because my surgery was pushed back due to other surgeries taking longer than expected. I woke up in the OR to frazzled med students who made me feel extremely confused and anxious. A day or two after my surgery, there was an issue with the surgeon/Dr not submitting the correct information about pain medication. Because it was unclear, I was given low dose baby Tylenol after days of morphine. Imagine having your head sliced open, part of your skull removed, your muscles sewn together and skin stapled shut, then having to sit and lay down in a bed with only TYLENOL.. instead of appropriate medications (later prescribed oxy/Valium). The pain was excruciating and nobody cared to do anything about it for another half a day. I had to endure a long overnight without the doctor coming to check and have the correct medication administered. Then when I had my staples removed 2 weeks later, the surgeon held my hair (which was tied up) and yanked the staples out with a tool, no numbing or cooling spray involved and sent me on my way.The office harassed my family about payment for months even when it was taken care of and even sent legal threats in my name (again, I was a teen) instead of my parents about payment. It’s nice to hear and see that other people’s children were taken care of and received kindness and empathy from this provider but this was certainly not my experience. I don’t know if the kindness and empathy is only showed towards children up and to a certain age or if I was simply unlucky but this experience was pretty traumatic for me. Sure, he’s a great surgeon, but bedside manner? His actual care for individual patients? I can’t speak to that or recommend that whatsoever unfortunately.

2022-09-16I want to thank Dr. Mittler he gave my parents hope when so many other people gave up when he did my surgery that was over 19 years ago. It’s because of him I am alive and well and in college. It is because of this miraculous surgery I am able to walk and talk so thank you. Mind you I was only a couple months old when you did the surgery and it took three times the charm.

2022-05-25On 6/12/2020 the unimaginable happened. Our happy, healthy 6 year old Vivian was playing in our pool when suddenly she ran to me crying her head was on fire, vomited and passed out. Unbeknownst to us she had a rare congenital brain anomaly called an arteriovenous malformation and at that moment it ruptured. I will never be able to express our level of gratitude that our local Hospital sent her directly to Cohens Childrens Hospital and into the hands of an incredibly skilled pediatric neurosurgeon as well as an incredibly compassionate man, Dr Mark Mittler who saved her life. Her recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. We are forever indebted to Dr. Mittler and the entire team at Cohens. You answered our prayers.

2021-10-22My 1 year old son had surgery on his back in March 2020, it was a very difficult time for my wife and I. We met with three Doctors all very capable, however when we met Dr. Mittler and his team we immediately knew this was the right choice for our son. Dr Mittler is the epitome of kindness, humanity and professionalism. Very rarely do you come across an individual as special. If you are reading this know that your special someone is in capable hands and let my experience and review quell any anxiety or concern you may have about choosing this practice.

2021-10-28Dr. Mittler is one of the most fantastic doctors we have ever come into contact with. His bedside manner, the way in which he explains a diagnosis, his demeanor and approach are basically everything you would want and need when it comes to your child. We are so grateful for him in getting us what our son needed with respect and efficiency. Our experience at Cohen’s would not have been the same without him.

2021-10-19Finding out your 7yo daughter needs brain surgery is probably one of the scariest things a parent can go through, but knowing she’s in the best hands possible certainly helps. From the moment we met Dr. Mittler to her last post-operative appointment we were treated with such kindness and respect. We genuinely knew he cared for our little girl and had her best interest at heart! Dr. Mittler not only answered every question we had, but he took the time to explain every step of the process- not only to us, but to our daughter as well! Him and his entire staff made themselves available to us to make the process as easy as possible. As parents, we only had to worry about being there for our little girl.Dr. Mittler came highly recommended and after having him perform our daughter’s successful craniotomy with an AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation) resection, we know exactly why! Meghan (his surgical coordinator) took care of everything pertaining to scheduling and insurance… and she was amazing! His NP, Shawna was also extremely helpful throughout the entire process. I cannot say enough about Dr. Mittler, his staff and all of the staff at Cohens! They not only took great care of our girl, but Dr. Mittler, in our opinion, saved our daughter’s life! Thank you Dr. Mittler- you are an amazing human being and we are blessed that you took care of our Clara girl!!!

2021-08-02From the first day we met Dr. Mittler, we knew our daughter would be in the best of care. She was diagnosed with a very rare brain tumor, an Atypical Neurocytoma. After three surgeries and 31 radiation treatments, our daughter was on the road to recovery. What impressed us most about Dr. Mittler was how he interacted with our daughter, Erin. She was sixteen years old when she was diagnosed. She was included in all conversations regarding her tumor and the surgeries that would ensue. No question was too silly; he answered her questions with care, truth and respect. Almost 9 years after our very first meeting, we returned with Erin for a follow up visit just last week and it was like no time had passed. The same warm smile and reassuring words were there, as it had always been. It is not easy to put your child’s life into someone else’s hands that you barely know but that’s what we did with Dr. Mittler and we never looked back. He will always have a very special place in our family’s heart…we will never be able to thank him for saving our daughter’s life. As her journey continues, knowing Dr. Mittler is walking right along side of her, is all the peace of mind we need.

2020-07-06My son had been in Dr Mittler’s care in Nov 2019 because of an accident he had because of a basketball injury. Within 24 hours his case was studied and surgery was done successfully! The assurance we were given by Dr Mittler before surgery and the after care was excellent! God bless him as he helps more children and their families. We’re glad we had the best treatment for my son and the best care and the best Doctor! Don’t have any doubts as my son has recovered! 2020-09-25Dr. Mittler surpassed my expectations of a doctor. Not only is he patient and kind, he goes above and beyond to answer my thousand questions every visit to put my mind at ease. His confidence in his skill and technique reassured me I chose the right surgeon for my baby. Now post surgery (Endoscopic for Sagittal Crainosynothesis) the results are amazing! I highly encourage any parent in my shoes whose child requires neurosurgery, to use Dr. Mittler. He’s such an amazing and smart man. We are forever grateful!

2018-01-29Our son Samuel was diagnosed with craniosynostosis and we were recommended to Dr. Mittler for treatment. Dr. Mittler was very professional and thorough during all of our visits and his bedside manners were very comforting for us as new parents under such stressful circumstances. Dr. Mittler recommended surgery to correct the condition. From all the accolades we heard and read about him and the numerous awards he received as one of the countrys top pediatric neurosurgeons we didnt doubt his advice for one minute and we felt that he would give the same advice had it been his own child. Immediately following the surgery Dr. Mittler came out to us smiling to let us know that our beautiful boy was doing well and that the surgery went smoothly. During the recovery we felt really loved and supported by the staff at Cohens Childrens Hospital. We would not hesitate one bit to recommend Dr. Mittler to all our friends and family if their child needs any neurological treatment. Thank God and Dr. Mittler and his staff for taking care of our Samuel.
