Modern on the Rails in other cities:
Wonderful venue for receptions and organizational brunches and dinners. The staff are professional and untiring friendly. The food is delicious & abundant. Adam, the Service Manager, was inviting, friendly and a joy to interact with. He went above & beyond for my family to be well-seated and enjoy our event. Were very grateful.
Gorgeous Restaurant! Location is beautiful as it is, as the station office is converted into a restaurant. Place has lots of character with high ceilings and exposed brick and the magnificent chandeliers adds to its beauty. Service was great and our food was delicious. We ordered lobster ravioli and chicken scarpariello, both entrees tasted great!!
This place is beyond amazing. The decor inside is stunning. I love that they took a historical station house and converted it to a fancy restaurant. Bonus - it is right off the train in Mamaroneck and a beautiful park!! Do get the truffle pasta and bacon wrapped figs!
The restaurant was apparently damaged in the hurricane but they are still listing that they are open on Google. Would be helpful to update your hours so your customers know…The meal I had here before was excellent. Way better than the Modern in New Rochelle. Service was a little clunky and some items were forgotten but the staff was incredible nice.
I went there with a friend the food was awesome but when I received the bill there was a service fee added on. Which kinda upset me when I asked the owner about it she replied. if you pay cash only there is no fee but if you pay by credit there is. In my opinion if your paying high end in monies that’s why you use your credit card in the first place. She told me she charges that fee due too the lost revenue because of covid 19 I said the only one who hurts in the end is the waiter when the tip arrives. And I find it very unprofessional that your guests have to pay for your hardships. So I now refuse not to eat there I feel that if I’m spending about 180. Dollers and a tip why should I have to pay a service fee.
Food and service was good . Last year . Now service is terrible and food so so . But they are charging premium price and I dont expect so so . Saw many others complain about service fee for paying with credit card . That is a terrible way to make money on backs of your patrons . So if I pay cash you should give a 10 percent discount !!! Trade in the Porsche for a Hyundai and that will lower your expenses !!!!
Cancelled our dinner order that was placed at 1230pm on Valentine’s Day at 5:45pm. This order was supposed to be delivered at 6:15pm. I received a notification that they were preparing it at 5:15pm then all the sudden cancelled at 545pm. I would be more understanding if this was cancelled earlier in the day or even delivered late! I’m now here with a very hungry family- including a 1 1/2 year old! Never will go back/ order again.
Just left Modern on the Rails, our dinner was great, only secondary to their pleasant and courteous staff. Their concern for cleanliness, at this most stressful time was exemplary. Each menu, seat and table was cleaned after each service. The manager /co-owner Laurie’s main concern seems to be that each patron are enjoying their food, service and feels like family. They have great prefix menus, Happy Hour specials and their St. Patrick’s day menu looks great. See you there. Enjoy!
Service is good, food too. But everything is very expensive and they pass the credit card surcharges to you unless you are paying cash. I go out in NY all the times and I don’t see this surcharge passed to the customers. The way I see it is another greedy restaurant taking advantage of the Covid pandemic and passing the costs to the consumers. One plate of pasta is about $26 and they want to charge me an additional credit card surcharge? Drinks $16. Greedy is what taking this country down. I understand restaurants are having a hard time and I want to support them, but o don’t want to be taken advantage of. I will take my money somewhere else.
Great local restaurant! Beautiful interior, tasty food, and a very attentive staff. The menu is very straight-forward Italian with fair prices. It does seem like the portion size has been cut down sometime during the past year, but it’s still a good value. It’s a good choice as a “can’t go wrong” option, and it has something for everyone.
The food was great tasting and plentiful. The ambiance is great for large family celebrations music was just right to allow great conversations. The service was absolutely wonderful. The team of servers worked like a family and constantly checked on us without being intrusive to our graduation celebration. They offered congratulations softly without loud singing or noises. The only regret we had was that the portions were so big we COULDNT try the desserts. I guess we will just have to go back again and again. If you want a great place for a celebration or just a great meal with a loved one, try Modern on the Rails.
I really like this place - great space/decor, good vibe, and the food is good and plentiful. My only complaint is the atmosphere, or rather the music selection. Its both and, at least the last time we visited, unwelcoming. It sounded like workout music, and one point I heard, Lets Get Physical by Olivia Newton-John.So, fix the playlist and well be back...
My wife ordered the gluten free Margherita pizza for $23 dollars. There were only a handful of tables occupied but the food took 15 minutes to arrive suggesting the chef was busy whipping up something delicious for us. Sadly the pizza was abominable and served on a foil dish. Management admitted that is was a frozen pie. It might have been bearable if it had been cooked fully but the crust was still soggy and the small patches of mozzarella had barely melted. The manager knocked a paltry $5 dollars of the check to compensate her for the disappointing lunch. We will not be returning.
Reservations was easy, and they honored my request with sitting next to fireplace. My wife and I have never been here but saw pics online. We arrived early and sat at bar and had a few drinks. Bartender service was great. Extremely friendly .When our table was ready our server came over and introduced himself and went over the specials and menu with us. The menu selections were appealing and not overwhelming. Everything on one card right in front of you. No flipping pages. The food came, and wow. It was GOOD. What I also noticed our server was very observant and was on the move. If our water glass was low even just a little it was refilled, no questions asked. He also didnt crowd you, meaning he didnt wait till you have a mouth full of food to ask if you would like another drink from the bar, or if their was anything else we would like. When dinner was done he came over and brushed the few crumbs from the table I made from eating the bread onto a tray and brought us dessert menus. We skipped dessert. I was stuffed. So when the check came and was paid my wife and I just sat there talking and enjoying our night. Our server continued to refill our water without any distractions. Stealth mode. Service, food, atmosphere was fantastic. Definitely be back.
Food is wonderful - especially the calamari! Waiter was unfriendly to us, didnt give us his name, didnt make eye contact, wouldnt smile (until he dropped my credit card receipt to sign). The kicker is he was the EXACT opposite with every table around us - outgoing, social, warm. It definitely made me and my friend feel unwelcome at one of our favorite spots.
I had my wedding there on 12/29/19 and I couldn’t ask for a better time from sebby and Lori and the food and service I am still in amazement from everything they did! This is your go to place for a simple or dinner or a amazing wedding that I just am still in love with it!!!!! Thank you guys for everything it was amazing
Went for Sunday brunch. Food was ok. Diane was our waitress. She seems nice but at the end the check came with gratuity included which is normal because we were 7 people. We paid part cash part credit. Told Diane exactly how much to put on the cards. She added and extra tip of $57 and kept all the cash. So double dipping Diane tried to scam a double tip of $114. As we left the people at the front said she tried the same thing with them.
We were there for Easter Sunday. It was setup as a buffet dinner, which was fine with me, since I tend to like buffet setups. The food was not bad at all. I was actually very pleased with the quality of the food. But - as every one knows, going to a restaurant is not only the food, but also the experience. We made reservations in advance, we paid for it and we specifically asked what was the tip policy in this special day. We were told the tip was included in the fee, since we went and filled the plates ourselves. There were servers going around cleaning up the plates after eating. We ordered one bottle of wine and two coffees that we had to pay separately for (we were a total of 6 adults and 1 child). We were served by an older waitress. We handed her a credit card and after signing, we got up to leave. We left a $20 bill just to acknowledge the fact that they were coming around removing the plates (although we didnt have to, according to what we were told when we made the reservation). The waitress ran after us to tell us that we had to leave a tip of 20% of the entire bill (food + drinks). We though it was rude of her to do that; nevertheless we added another $30 and left with a bitter taste for the happening.WE WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE FOR THIS VERY REASON. DISHONESTY is a strong deterrent.
Last night friends of mine and myself went to have dinner at this establisment. We ordered wine and were waiting for the wine to come to our table. The waiter spilled an entire glass of red wine on my shirt, pants and new shoes. I was soaked and had to leave the restaurant. I understand that noone is perfect and accidents happen. My experience on leaving spoke volumes of this restaurant. We will gladly pay for your laundry is not sufficient for a traveler from Virginia. No effusive apologies ,no earnest concern. No get changed and come on back and we will show you our concern and make it up to you.First impressions are everlasting impressions. This establishment failed my friends and my special night. The worst restaurant experience I have ever had.
1st time to Modern. Had Sunday brunch buffet with friends. Food was good, nice selection. Chic casual atmosphere. Mimosas were delicious. Price is reasonable ($30 + tax and gratuities. $10 more for all you can drink mimosas, bellinis, bloody Marys and champagne). Parking is free on Sundays and ample. Located at the base of the Metro North station in Mamaroneck.
One of the best Italian Restaurants’s in the area. This is a pretty large restaurant right at the train station. It’s a great option if you want to venture out of the city but don’t want to spend any money on an Uber! Excellent pizza, an absolutely outstanding burger and some incredible pasta. They deliver via uber eats too!
The food here is great I ordered Penne with white clam sauce big chunks of clams, cooked perfectly. The only problem and this is the reason for 4 stars and not five was too much garlic. I love garlic but this was way to much. They also have amazing Riceballs and Meatballs under the appetizer section. This is a great place for dinner. I highly recommend this place. ** I ordered the sausage, broccoli rabe over penne asked for less garlic. Now I give it a 5 star rating
Worst experience ever going to a restaurant, my fiancee and I waited over an hour and a half on valentines day for our meal which we never received. What made matters worse in the situation the table next to us received their food before us as if they never put in the order and we were there before them. Those same guest also felt the wait was ridiculously long and took their meal to go. I also felt our waiter PETE had to be one of the worst servers I ever had upon this experience at this restaurant. PETE took whole thing lightly as if its ok for service to be that bad but as he stated ( its not my fault) as if this always happens here at this restaurant. Every time I had asked this serve about something on the menu he would walk away from our table and attend someone else as if we didnt matter.

2022-02-27A great choice for date night! The service and the dining room are wonderful. Take a little care choosing your dishes and drinks, it feels, looks and prices like a fancy restaurant but tastes more like a local family restaurant. Be a bit careful and it will be a great experience.

2022-04-13What an amazing experience. I went there last night with a meetup group. It was incredible, the location, food, drinks, atmosphere, etc. Our waitress, Erica was so kind and great. She even split up the checks by person, hats off to her. Would definitely go back again, just a nice and fun dining experience. Go check it out for yourself!!

2022-02-14Food was good. My complaint is that for a Sunday brunch it was expensive. More surprising was that not even a drink/coffee included. Also, taping on a 20% tip on bill is not cool. Waiter did nothing but took our dirty dishes. Did he get a drink for us? Yes, but come on. The highest percentage of a tip. Not worth it. I wouldnt go back for a buffet again.

2022-06-18I attended a birthday party for my sister-in-law I found a place to be quite unique it was not our first time there and can safely say we would recommend it for your small family dining events. ❗️ I do not recommend the pork selection everything else was fine

2017-01-28Love the location, literally steps from the train so its convenient for people to come visit from the city. The decor was very grand, I adore the large front doors and high ceiling.Service was very quick and nice, and didnt rush us at all. Wed ordered a chipotle calamari and theyd brought out the wrong order, when we told our waitress she was in the process of bringing out the right order. Shed realized it herself and taken action. The food was great, see pictures. Had a Chianti and those are always pleasing. Got a coffee to end the meal and even my friend who doesnt drink coffee said it was very good.
