Nice selection of pinball machines. All machines were in good working order and each had info about its history or anecdotes from the games makers. You can easily spend a few hours here. And if youre particularly smitten with a machine, theyre for sale. Just check the price tag on the side of the back display. Though keep in mind that the prices seem a little high. Dont impulse buy, do your research.
Great place for kids, adults (provided you are into pinball gaming) and pinball aficionados. Pinball is making a big comeback nowadays, after years of certain neglect in favor of first the early primitive arcade video games and then - seemingly in an irrevocable fashion - at-home console or computer games. Now, as it is very often the case with all things good, pinball is becoming a trend, and not even in a nostalgic or retro way.Modern Pinball NYC Arcade features about 30 pinball machines of every persuasion, some of them at least three or four decades old, judging on their names, from Beatlemania to Addams Family, and from Shrek to KISS, among many others.Upon your check-in you are given a yellow bracelet that allows you to leave and come back at your volition, any time until midnight.Gaming is unlimited (which - for me personally - takes some excitement off) and there are step stools provided for the kids of younger age, to facilitate easy gaming.Food or drinks are not allowed to be brought in.Apparently, there is also a Museum of Modern Pinball, but it looks like the staff-led demonstrations of pinball machines inner workings should be booked in advance.Tickets are available on-line, the current sale rate is $18.71.
This place is a unique experience, but its hard to imagine spending more than 30 minutes of taking it all in. Im glad I went, but if I knew what I know now, I wouldnt have paid as much as I did.The good: they have about 30 pinball machines, from 1976 to today. It was fascinating to see the evolution of technology and game elements. Game play is free once you pay to get in. The history of the games is posted above eqch game, which is interesting. The bad: With free game play, nothing prevents people from leaving games in the middle, which is inconvenient when trying a new game, or people never leave. We were there for a little over an hour and the two arcade games were occupied the entire time by the same two 4 year old kids. Thats just bad parenting etiquette, I know, but what can you do? Once a game (or most games) gwt filled, there is no throttle on demand. A couple of the games had mechanical problems. There is a documentary on a TV screen that actually looks interesting, but you have to stand and read closed captions to watch it.
$14 for an hour (per pax) of unlimited fun with pinball machines, also with a small arcade machine for mini games and fighting etc. sadly the little kids occupied the whole 1 hour of our time so we didn’t get to reminisce with the machine.. their parents were there the whole time using their phone updating their IG & Facebook account how they spent time with their kids yay! Yes, we should have spoken up but we didn’t want to spoil their fun..Overall, we spent $28 for two. It’s a 5x10 metre place with pretty much just pinball, what do you expect? 😊 cool though!
If you love pinball and love the idea of playing as many as you want all day long this is the place for you. About 30 different pinball machines both old and new and you pay just the admission fees (which are reasonable). The place is small and a bit crowded but I was there for several hours and got to play every single machine. Note: go to the web site and they have 25 percent off.
ThIs was one of the most fun afternoons Ive ever had. The staff is great really friendly and take the time to explain exactly what needs to be done in the wind tube. My only negative is that each jump is 50 seconds and you only get two but it is so much fun. Highly recommend this for any and all ages as we literally had 5-7 year olds o this and it was awesome!!! They make great gifts too!
The place is awesome if you like pinball. Thats all you do for unlimited time. If you buy it online its cheaper. The only reason that I didnt give them 5 stars is because they dont allow food or drinks, and you cant buy them there either. Theres a lot of bars around, but will be better if you can have it while you are there. Maybe they can use the party room as a hangout area and have a vending machine for sodas and snacks.
We visit Modern Pinball every time were in New York. The kids love it, and so do I. They have a full range of machines, up to the most modern (and for me, most fun) games. They do a great job of maintaining the machines, which is really important. Ive played a bunch of semi-broken games in bars, and its great to play on machines that are working perfectly. You can play all day (until midnight!) for a flat fee. Highly recommended.
If you are into games and nostalgia, this if a good place to check out. Once you pay admission you can play all day. Theres no time limit. You can leave and come back in the same day. There are only pinball machines. Nothing else. No food and drinks allowed. Clean. I came here today (Monday) for my birthday. Not crowded at all. You can come here with friends and challenge them to games. I had a great time.
This place is incredible; awesome price, great selection with new games and staff has been generally cool. Would go here non-stop if I could.Update 12/9/19 : Another amazing time. They changed the pricing structure so its good for the day for a slight increase in cost. It works for me either way since I can drop 2-3 hours easily but now feel completely comfortable stepping out for a meal and coming back. Coming here is a staycation for pinball geeks.
My family and I (5 adults and 1 teenager) were exploring after dinner and randomly found this place. IT. WAS. A. GEM. My stepmom somehow found a pinball machine that she used to play with as a kid with her late father, all us adults became kids again, and my teenage cousin even had a blast! 10/10 would highly recommend!
Great place, nice staff! Ive been there several times with my 15 yr old son & 5 yr old daughter. Both my kids have enjoyed their visits despite their age difference. Modern Pinball NYC has about 28 or so pin ball machines. Reasonable packages for hours of fun & play, stools to rest once you get a bit tired, small booster step at each pinball machine for younger kids and you get a nice 10% off your bill at the next door restaurant Mad Hatter. A great place for all age brackets.
Honestly I expected something larger. I also thought it was expensive but that’s only because we didn’t have more than an hour. It was $25 per person for free play all day. So if you can plan to spend time there it’s a good value. Be advised that it’s almost all pinball. Only two multi arcade machines which were occupied the entire hour.
I loved this place! I had so much fun, like a kid in a pinball shop. The owner/manager was laid back, and you could tell this was a passion project of his. There are probably wildly different experiences at this place based on the time of day you visit, but if youre in the mood for a few hours of relatively inexpensive (for Manhattan) entertainment, and for an escape back to your childhood, this is the place to be. Also, a nice selection of old and new machines (I didnt even know they made new pinball machines until I played Game of Thrones pinball.....)
Games are on free play, pay by the hour. If youre there when theres a party, it will be gone soon. Games are very well-maintained, clean, level, modern. An old one-player electro-mechanical game is opened up right by the front door so you can see how old games looked inside. Staff is friendly and competent. Nice variety, different skill levels. They hold tournaments. Best pinball experience anywhere in the area.
Steve the darling owner loves pinball, and wants to get kids playing so that pinball will still be around in the coming decades. My 7-yr-old buddy asked how the flippers are controlled and he patiently showed her the guts of a pinball machine and explained some E&M basics to her as he pointed to the colorful wires. Very thoughtfully kid friendly; they have stools on hand handy for little pinballers who need a boost. There is a party room in the back with options for buying out the place for a number of hours, or for renting the room but sharing the store as it remains open.Their pinball machines are also available for sale.$10/hr for kids 7 and under. $12 an hour for adults. The rate improves the longer you stay. A wristband allows you to clock out and return in the same day to use up the time you paid for.All in all, a fun and unique arcade with throwback fun for everyone. Hope Modern Pinball sticks around!

I love this place, we take my mom every year for her birthday. They have a great selection, as well as an ever changing line up. The staff is very knowledgeable, and Beth took the time to explain how the machines worked as she had to open one up. 10/10 would recommend.

Amazing place for pinball fans. The machines here span 50 years of pinball history, and its all playable. You pay by the time period, not by the game, so one flat rate gets you a couple hours of pinball. Since it doubles as a showroom, the machines are all in immaculate condition. These truly are the best pinball machines Ive ever played, with the possible exception of Free Gold Watch in San Francisco.
Went here using a deal I found on one of those types of sites, where we got $3 off the hourly rate. This is such a fun idea for something unique to do in the city. You pay ~$12 for unlimited play for an hour (they have 3 hour passes and all day passes). The place has TONS of machines which are all very different and unique. Because there were so many machines, we didnt have to wait for turns to play. The owners were friendly and helpful. They offer a 10% discount for food and drinks to the bar next door. Overall a fun experience. They offer step ladders for kids and said they host parties.
A blast from the past. If you are a geek a nerd or just nostalgic of an era almost lost in oblivion you must visit Modern Pinball. Pinball span over 40 years of history with some really vintage pieces like Captain Fantastic, featuring Elton John to modern edition like the Aerosmith pinball, complete with LCD screen and incredible ball effects or the latest Star War edition. Almost all pinball machines have a tag identifying year they were built, author and some trivia facts. Highly recommended if you want to have some unadulterated genuine fun with your children or by yourself. You pay by the hour and you can play 3 hours for less than 20$.update: Modern Pinball now only offers a Day Pass for about $25. Still a great deal...and new pinballs are there to be played!
I am so glad this place exists! After the old Chinatown Fair Arcades closed on Mott Street back in 2012, I havent touched an arcade or pinball machine ever since. We were treated to an orgy of pinball machines with different themes mainly from movies, but Im not complaining. All you can play and play I indeed did.Prices (As of 6/10/2014):ADULTS: $12 up to 1 hour; $19 up to 3 hours; $29 All-Day PassCHILDREN (UNDER 7): $10 up to 1 hour; $15 up to 3 hours; $19 All-Day PassCHILDREN (UNDER 3): FREESENIORS (65+) & STUDENTS: 10% off all ratesMeet with owner Steve Zahler and showed my his champion skills on the Soccer machine and boy was he a master. He explained what to do to get higher points and the path to pinball awesomeness.I wish there are more of these kind of establishments near where I live, but I will def. take the trek when I need to see some flippers and stainless steel balls getting knocked around mechanical triggers and ramps. The great thing about you playing here is that whatever youve spent, it can be counted toward the purchasing prices of the machine. This place is quite an investment! (For example, spent $100 so far, and a machine is $1000, then to buy it just pay the remaining 900$ balance!) Most machines are $5000+ but Im still young and have time to invest. Probably when I retire I will have my own machine...but until then Ill be visiting pretty often!(I wonder if they offered a yearly all you can play membership, this would be awesome)
This place is wonderful! There are so many great machines to play and it is such a welcoming space. We came in last week for a few hours; it was pretty empty when we arrived but picked up later when the leagues got there. I played almost every machine and once I chose my favorite (The Addams Family) I stuck to it all night. I was worried people would get annoyed with me hogging the machine but the regulars were all so friendly and just told me to keep playing til my fingers fell off.Modern Pinball is an absolute gem; I cant wait to come back.
Fun place for a date or just to have a good time. They have a variety of pinball games but the Beatles was my favorite. The space is a little small and fills up fast so I suggest buying tickets online before going. This will move you to the top of the waiting list in case they are at capacity. Make sure to call or check their website before you go in case they are holding an event. Sunday afternoons are usually calmer than a Saturday.
Stumbled upon this place via Groupon while visiting NYC. Great prices for however long you plan to stay & play. There was quite a selection of very old to newer machines with a enough space not to feel crowded. The only drawback was no actual customer restroom, & the space gets a little hot, which can be imagined due to that amount of electronics. Definitely recommend stopping here for at least a few games.
This was a nice place to take my students on a field trip. It was a little pricey but the school paid for it. I think they could do a bit better to understand that students who are in self contained classes cant stay still and listen for too long so perhaps next time they can shorten the information part of the field trip but other than that Beth was great and my students enjoyed themselves.
I totally loved this place!! Machines were new and old school with themes of the past and present. Perfect for anyone of all ages. Unlimited game time and free plays with admission. Loved that there is hand sanitizer on the walls and step stools. Totally worth it. Cant wait to go back!!
This place is so cool! You can take a ticket for 18$ on their website and you got an unlimited access to all pinballs and two arcade machines. You can even go out and come back because the ticket is valid all day long! Anyway the choice of pinballs is great, from the newest to the oldschool type. Its not too crowded so there is always one waiting for you. If you like pinballs or want to discover its really worth it in my opinion.
It is clean. Bathroom is clean. Service is fast and polite. Pinball machines are almost all working when we went (2 werent) atmosphere was okayish. There are these random loud bangs. I would call in advance to see if they got any large groups coming that day. Kids in groups really makes it unpleasant due to the loud and chaotic behavior. Kids breathing down your neck complaining about wanting their turn. We had to leave and come back. They got a good system.
My new favorite place to visit while in the city. They have a large selection of new Stern machines and also a collection of Williams, Bally, Gottlieb, and Data East pins. Compared to other places I have played I would rate the upkeep on the machines as excellent. The Fish Tales they had (on 3.23.16) played like brand new and had LEDs throughout for a bright and fast game. They also sell the pins (it seemed that every machine had a price tag on it) which sadly means their current games will constantly be changing because the prices seemed reasonable especially for Manhattan ( The Monster Bash and Theater of Magic seen in some pics were probably sold long ago and were not there). I went for the day pass and it truly is a bargain if youre looking to stay in that area of the island for any amount of time. The staff was extremely friendly and clearly passionate about pinball. There is of course countless places for food and drink nearby. They also have a restroom so playing for hours was no problem, except for the personal problem I have with my pin obsession. Cannot recommend this place enough. Thanks Modern Pinball!

Modern pinball was good its a little overrated the pinball machines okay but kind of like playing one after the other was the same not a whole lot of difference in the pinball machine. The machines that has Pac-Man and space invader with multi machine meaning that you picked the video game you want to play on one machine not much fun I kind of like the old way of moving from one machine to another with its own special toggle switches lovers and joysticks when you stay on one machine and it just picking what you want to play the graphics on. Crate & Barrel attract my attention too much so its okay something to do when you know like you got nothing else to do and you want to try something different but really its okay but not fantastic another words I wasnt Overjoyed by it
Dropped by for a one hour quickie. Was amazed at the selection of games available and for unlimited play too. First time playing pinball in years and seeing classics such as Funhouse and Jack-Bot bought back memories of childhood family outings at Atlantic City, Lake George, and Seaside Heights. Vintage machines such as Black Hole and The Six-million Dollar Man make the experience one that spans through the different eras of pinball. Will definitely return soon.
I definitely felt hustled having to pay an over $3 sales tax immediately upon entry with a groupon 3 hour/two person deal. Silverball Museum doesn’t do this sort of thing; sales tax is included in the price. If you’re expecting arcade games there’s only 2 multi game cabinets in the back which seem pointless as nobody was even using them once at any point over the hours I was there. The pinball tables are mostly newer ones and it’s a good smaller selection. This place honestly can’t compare to Silverball Museum in Asbury Park, but it’s nice there’s at least something in Manhattan. The playfield on Gorgar is the roughest I’ve ever seen.
This is a great place for pin ball lovers! Of course, there is the nostalgia factor, but it is also just genuinely fun for different generations. Every family member who visits me form out of town, gets dragged to this wonderful place for a little bit of fun competition. By the way, I think the Adams familiy is my favorite one.
Friendly guy greeted me inside and shared with me pricing and such. Roughly 25 pins. A couple old Ems from the 70s and a mixture of classics from the 80s and 90s. A few newer Stern pins. ALL machines are nicely maintained. Played the all and had no issues. One multicade video towards the back if you need a video game fix although its an LCD screen so not true to old school. Overall a great time. Rather small and it wasnt crowded while I was there which made it fun. No food or drinks served here but plenty of places around and a discount is given next door so thats a nice touch.
Excellent pay by the hour free play concept and a decent selection of pinball machines. The machines are not all particularly well maintained, but I assume this is partly because they take a ton of punishment from the patrons. If you like pinball its well worth a visit.
This place is set up as a timed space. You dont use quarters or tokens, just a wristband with an expiration time. There are at least 2 dozen pinball machines from all eras, though sadly not all of them are active at once. Im not sure if its a maintenance issue, or a crowding issue, but about 6 or 7 games werent even turned on.The place is clean and booze-free. A great place for a date or the kids. Not a standard arcade like at Dave and Busters, and theres no ticket machines. Youre there because you like to play pinball. Ill definitely be back.
I was thrilled to find this place earlier this year. There are 25-30 machines, lined up on either side of the space and all set to free play - you buy a wristband for an hour, three hours, or all day, and then play to your hearts content. With the all day wristband, you can come and go as you please all day, and you get a discount at the Mad Hatter pub restaurant next door. Modern Pinball NYC has lots of real classics, like Monster Bash, Addams Family, Theater of Magic (my favorite), Fish Tales, and Twilight Zone, in addition to newer machines like Sterns Star Trek (another favorite of mine) and Jersey Jacks Wizard of Oz. All machines are well-maintained, and the guys working there are very responsive to any issues that pop up in addition to being very friendly and always willing to chat about pinball. Interestingly, all machines are actually for sale and have price tags attached, though Ive never had the fortune to buy from them. A great place to go and spend a few hours playing your heart out!
“I wanted to do something fun and new with my sons so I googled “something fun to do with kids” and the first thing that came up was MODERN PINBALL. I’m a 70’s child and pinball was my game. My sons are always asking about my youth and what I did for fun. This experience brought back fun memories and my sons had a great time. The Six Million Dollar Man pinball machine made my day. Thanks!”
Pinball arcade. Play the classics. Well maintained machines. About 25 different machines. Walk in and be greeted by staff. Very helpful and friendly staff. Bathroom available for customers. No coins or cards. Pay at the entrance for admission. But a 1 hour, 2 hour or all day pass. If you leave, the purchased time is stopped until you return the same day.
I was visiting from London and was supposed to be heading to Central Park. Along the way I stumbled across this place and ended up staying for 3hrs! It was amazing, the best pinball experience I’ve ever had - you can play on old and new machines all day long - if you love pinball then it’s def worth a visit 😃
Great games, ranging from classics to the latest Deadpool, Shrek, GoT, Beatles, Wheel of Fortune, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more. Beth was great with instructing us on what to do. There are about 20 pinball machines as a whole, so youll get a good mix. Space is a bit tight, so if its busy, it might be tough to get on a game, so make sure to go at off-peak times. Will be happy to go again! Great loyalty program also.

Purchased a pinball machine from them. They are very friendly, answers all questions quickly, very responsive to customers needs, knowledgeable, easy to work with, and provides great customer service. Very satisfied with the experience and highly recommend using them.
Amazing place. So many games, mostly well tended. Can get crowded on the weekends and some parents dont watch their kids very well, but that isnt their fault. Check their calendar for birthday parties etc and try to arrange your visit around those. Go during the week for the best time. Maybe my favorite place in NYC.
I havent gotten to go here yet but I LOVE IT!! I found it via Facebook and if I wasnt healing from surgery I would be waiting outside right now for this place to open its doors. Trust I will be here as soon as I heal up. I been dying to play pinball for like the last 7 years thank you for answering my prayers I will be bringing many friends in September look out for me Im coming soon 😆😁😜😄☺️😊😈
We purchased tickets from Modern Pinballs website for myself and 5 1/2 yo son. Make the train ride up from South Brooklyn--on a Saturday, took an hour. Get there around open time and theres a sign that says theyre closed for a private party. Id be a little bent out of shape over this, I guess. But the person I spoke to told me that it was my fault for not calling ahead. I mean, she really said that. She also said that the website tells you to call ahead. I dont know if the mobile site, which I used for everything is different, but theres no mention of calling ahead (aside for large parties). At first I said we had plans and would probably need a refund (which sounded like it was some sort of an email to the owner, and hed probably do it) my kids upset, so I cancelled family plans for later in the day, and Im freezing outside with him, waiting to get in--for 2 hours. I hope that this is fun--based on managers point of view, I have doubts.Edit: I see the owner replied to a previous reviewer who had the same experience blaming her browser for caching an old version. Ive never been on this website before this morning--theres nothing notifying me as far as I can see or anyone could notice.Edit after owner response: Im disappointed that you staff member said I wasnt listening, as she did about 95% of the talking in our (roughly) 45 second conversation--she was gruff with us and we just left. That is a gross distortion of what happened. Second, there are six steps to buying tickets on your site: 1. go to site, 2. click buy tickets. 3. add ticket choice to cart, 4. proceed to checkout, 5. pay with paypal (my choice), 6. back to finalize sale and email ticket. At no point do any of these pages state that the schedule is subject to change, nor does it even suggest that you should look on any other pages to see if there are any scheduling issues--or that the possibility of a scheduling issue could even exist. And to suggest that the pdf ticket that was sent has a blurb in the bottom under Terms and Conditions --and that anyone would read that after already reading the information on the ordering site is laughable. Have you ever bought movie tickets online? After you buy the tickets, do you open the pdf and read the Terms and Conditions of the movie theater?Just apologize and move on, my man. I wasnt being hostile or insulting--I wasnt asking for or wanting a refund--I was stating what actually happened. Your employee came out and started dressing me down immediately--Im assuming its because shes tired of people showing up and being upset with her all the time. You win. You got my money--but it will cost you, literally nothing to communicate this better on your website, and it would cost you, literally nothing to just say sorry and move on or to have a convo with you employee about how she approached us in the beginning--although she was apologetic for her behavior when we came back two hours later.By not showing a little humility and willingness to be wrong, youre telling your customers that, yes I own a fun place and youll probably love your visit here--but in the rare instance that we drop the ball and dont treat your right--weve already decided it must have been your fault--good day, sir! Here, Ill draft another response for you. Try this one out:Hey Joe, so sorry to have heard about your visit. Glad you came back and Im so, so sorry that you had to cancel family plans for later on Sunday to make it work.Listen. We hear you and other customers that have had the same experience, and were looking at updating our webpage to better communicate this scheduling stuff to families like you.Again, our humblest apologies and hopes that you try us again.
Ive been coming to Modern Pinball NYC for quite a few years (when Im in the city for business or for family)... and the quality of the experience continues to go do down. The plain and simple fact is that the machines are poorly kept. Many have dirty playfields. Many have lights (especially GI lights) that are out and dont work, and the mechanical parts on many (especially flippers and slings) that are in obvious need of cleaning. I was there yesterday and the number of issues was head scratching. MET was trying to launch a ball but the ball was stuck in the shooter lane (the two staff members who were lounging, staring at their phones, couldnt be bothered to help), ST next to it was missing a ton of lighting and was absolutely filthy, WH2Os DMD was gassed and missing lines, quite a few games were shut off...SS had a vertical up kicker that took 6 or 7 attempts to work correctly... the list goes on.Constrast my experience with that of going to Sunshine in Brooklyn. Night and day difference. The idea of Modern Pinball NYC is great... but I wont be returning until I hear stories about maintenance and general machine care improving. If I were a pinball novice, Id leave there an likely never play pinball again. Come on, MP NYC, you obviously must realize that you need to invest some time and money into making the games play right!
I wont deny that this place is great for family and friendsHowever I think the whole experience was ruined for meAnd it have to do with the volume being too lowIm not joking literally I could hear what a couple was talking behind mePlus some of the pinballs were reallyIn need of maintenanceI love to come back because I love pinballBut I have to find an alternativeI contacted them in their Instagram page but without answerSo if you dont mind not hearing the games go ahead you will have funI wish to give them a higher rating butI cant
Looked like it would have been a nice place but it was disappointing to arrive there only to find out they were closed for a private party. This should be listed on their website. We were vacationing and before wasting cab fair to get there would have been nice to know.

2016-10-26Prices start at a low $12 per hour for adults and you get unlimited free play of all the machines! Every machine I tried was I great working order, which is impressive considering pinball machines are very high maintenance. They have many great machines including my favorite, Terminator 2!

2019-01-02Cool place. Not huge however they do pack in 30 or so machines. No quarters need, multiplayer is enabled, and you pay by the hour. We did two hours which was about the order amount of time. Even found street parking as block away. Will go back

2019-02-10Fun place even with young kids. There are plenty of pinball machine choices from the mid 70s to more recent editions. At ~$15 per hour it can get pricey for a whole family but its an entertaining and unusual way to show kids a unique part of gaming history.

2020-01-18I loved this place! The people were great and it was so much fun. They have a lot of pinball machines and you can play for hours. It was nostalgic to pinball like it used to be back in the day. Great place to chill and meet up with friends to hang out. Can’t wait to go back!

2019-05-11For $20 you can play all you want for the day! You can even leave to go eat and then come back. Great deal. And they now have 2 machines in the back where you can play 100s of non-pinball games!

2017-03-13Great time! Introduced my daughter to pinball and we spent hours and hours playing every machine they had. They have retro 1970s classics all the way up to games made within a year or so.The way they do the pass, where you can come and go as you please, is very nice. We played, went for lunch, came back for more games until it was time to go home.

2018-03-24Carefully curated pinball machines on free play. A good selection of machines from the 60s to Modern day. Hourly admission is reasonable, especially when spread over multiple hours. This place is for the true pinball enthusiast. Wish they sold food and drink here, but still worth the stop.

2019-12-30We found this place by accident and it left us kinda disappointed - its normal tourist trap, but we realized too late. You dont use coins for the pinball machines, instead you have to pay around $25 per person as an entrance fee for whole day, so if you are not planning to stay there for few hours or come back, its not worth the money if you are just passing by, its worth it for pinball enthusiasts or locals that can come back during the day any time they want.
