Went 11.13.19 for restaurant week lunch. Great service!! Good apps and desserts, entrees not so good. Very nice atmosphere. Beware tables near service stations as area becomes congested. Nonna’s Meatballs and Lobster Bisque apps were excellent. Gnocchi and Buttermilk Chicken sandwich entrees were just ok. The shoestring cut fries dont stay hot. The kale slaw wasn’t very good. The chicken breast was thin, small, and the batter coating not crisp. The pumpkin cheesecake was terrific. Would try it again sometime for sure. Good enough to go back.
This was our first time dining at the restaurant and we had a delicious brunch. The decor, ambiance, and service was great. We were early for our reservation and were seated promptly. There was a variety of wonderful dishes to choose from as well as an extensive drink menu. Our food was served promptly, was hot, and delicious. We had the morning after pie pizza which was out of this world. The stuffed french toast with nutella was not anything to write home to mom about. The flavor was nice, but the toast could have used a longer soak in the egg batter so that the center of this thick toast would be moist. The drier parts of the toast just tasted like regular bread. Our server was wonderful and attentive. The one thing that was odd was the hostess who seated us. She plopped us next to a couple who were obviously having an intimate conversation during brunch. There were plenty of open tables in that section, we could have sat one table over and not be breathing over each other. The next couple was seated in the same fashion. It befuddled me that she just didnt seat everyone with a table in between each couple...there was room to do it as the restaurant was not overly crowded. For this, I took off one star. Other than that, we enjoyed our brunch and look forward to trying the different meal options.
Service was slow, waiter was rude, food was mediocre. As I exited the restaurant the manger chased after me and accused me of skipping out on the check. He gave me a thumbs up and mumbled an apology once he realized my payment was at the bar. Not a pleasant experience.
This is an excellent restaurant with a nice ambience. I ate multiple times and I would say it is much better when less crowded. I felt food was delicious during lunch and dinner hours. The menu is extensive and regularly changed so you can visit multiple times and keep it interesting. The service is friendly but not always prompt.
I am particular, ie. Picky. I dont like loud restaurants and dislike inadequate service. The food needs to be top notch. Or else, why go out just to get annoyed and disappointed? My Daughter and I had dinner last night and she suggested Moderne Barn.We got there at about 7:45pm without a reservation and had no problem getting a very good table. It was subdued (as to noise). We were not elbow-to-elbow with anyone.Wine by the glass was satisfying. I had Chablis and my Daughter had Rose. For an appetizer my Daughter had the Poke. I had the corn tomato gazpacho, which had a pleasant cilantro flavor. For Entrée, my Daughter had the Mussels (normally an appetizer) but it was a large portion. I had the Roast Chicken. We were both pleased. We shared the Cast Iron Baked Brownie (I had them NOT to put the chocolate sauce and ice cream on it, just naked. Itr was great, very light, almost soufflé-like.The cost for both of us was about $140 plus tip. (My Daughter had 2 glasses of wine, I had one)In my opinion you will NOT be disappointed at Moderne Barn in Armonk.
First time there, and had a wonderful lunch choosing the wedge lettuce salad to start and the spicy fish cakes for the entree. Price was great at $20! But, these choices are only good for a week, and then on to something else...Oh, and do try the cast iron butterscotch brownie for dessert. Phenomenal!!
Food was good, and restaurant is aesthetically pleasing. But I have to say that the service was poor. The restaurant was not crowded at all but after 10 to 15 minutes we had to flag someone down just to get a menu. I don’t think anyone said as much as two words to us the entire time that we were there after what do you want to order.
Went to a bridal shower recently in the upstairs private room. Everything was lovely and the wait staff was awesome! A special shout out to Murray (hope I got the name right). He was very accommodating to one of the elderly attendees. We had a couple of immune compromised attendees and we felt very safe having the area that was away from the main dining room, and our own dedicated staff. Plus, the food was delicious! All in all, a wonderful experience.
I want to start out by saying we have been here numerous times and always in the past had fantastic service and food. I am writing this review because we went for brunch this past Sunday and were disappointed. Most of our disappointment was around the service. We were seated right away as the restaurant was only half full. But almost immediately service issues began. We sat for over 5 minutes before anyone came by. The first person to come by was a bus boy who dropped off cutlery and water. We tried to order coffee, but he didnt understand because when our waiter showed up we had to order coffee again. We ordered our meals and the bus boy brought over what was old Italian bread, not the typical mini corn bread sticks that are usually served. After another 10 minutes I asked a waiter who was passing by if we could have our coffees. By this point it was 20 minutes from when we first asked for coffee, and 15 minutes after we ordered it from our waiter. Our water came by in just a couple of minutes and apologized that they were brewing another super fresh pot and it would be out soon. It took another 5 minutes before it arrived which made it just shy of half an hour to get just coffee.Honestly, it is inexcusable during a brunch service to not have coffee to serve guests, and since it only takes like 5 minutes to brew a full pot of 10 cups of coffee with a Bunn, this was absolutely ridiculous. The food was split. I had the Nova and poached eggs which was excellent as it usually is. My guest had pancakes that were disappointing as they were both chewy and undercooked and not light and fluffy at all.The appetizer of popcorn shrimp was outstanding. but the busboy took my fork after it and when my meal was brought they didnt replace the fork, so when my poached eggs arrived I had to try to find someone to get me a fork, which took a couple of minutes. We never saw a manager on duty at all, for if we had we would have asked to speak with them.Honestly we were disappointed that after spending $80 on brunch that the service was no where near what was expected or we we had been used to experiencing.
Beautiful restaurant great atmosphere went for dinner with a group of 6 , we had a great time good for family events, couples or groups i had the lamb chops my wife had the pasta with meatballs, food was good my dish came warm and had to send it back other wise will gave them 5 stars, we will definitely will come back .
Great meeting place to catchup with good friends. Very good service and a decent menu and good wine list. The food quality was ok. Recommend the meatballs. The fried calamari was chewy. The pork belly was dry and unfortunately not “melt in your mouth”. My pasta was correct. I loved the Dolcetto wine which was on the sommelier’s menu recommendation.
Have been dining at this spot for years …yet…lately,!we have noticed the change in quality of the food… is it the purveyor or chef? Burgers used to be juicy and delicious now are dry and dull hiding under a load of bacon and cheese… hanger steak could barely cut with a knife. Wine list still good and service same… so disappointed and we will not be back for quite a while.
Last evening I had your New York Strip Steak. I have eaten it in your restaurant many, many times over the years, most of the times ordering the steak which was always delicious .But this time it was very tough and not flavorful, I could not eat it! I took a big portion home and fed it to the dogs! At $41.00 a steak! The service was also not as good as in the past, but I gave a good tip because it is not easy to make a living ! I have moved from Armonk and come down every couple of month and look forward to my dinner at M. B. You must have gotten a new chef!
The chicken was undercooked, bland, I was very excited to try the Modern Barne, we will be returning and I will update the review. I don’t know if it was an off day in the kitchen, I am a Chef so I understand human error. Service was excellent, management was impeccable. Overall great experience except for the chicken, my brother and father enjoyed their steaks and pasta. My mother and I were disappointed. The desert was our saving grace however.
We were a little disappointed with our dinner at Moderne Barn this evening. We did have a nice outdoor table and the service was quick (but not particularly caring). However, the food can only be described as blah. Very mediocre, from poorly cooked and flavored lamb chops to a dry burger, to a mediocre peach crumble for dessert (without much crumble). At this price point, the food should be way better than this.
Beautiful restaurant space with many different food options. All tables inside were separated by dividers. Appetizers were delicious. Hight recommend the Calamari, Dumplings and Meatballs. The Salmon and Roasted Chicken Entrees were amazing. Finished the night with a lemon cheesecake that was to die for. Enjoy!
I love Moderne Barn! It’s a dining experience. The chef is always using what’s in season, local, and fresh. This leads to a menu that changes frequently yet the quality of food is consistent and delicious. The atmosphere inside is great with a long bar near the entrance and 2 floors of open seating with a small patio outback for when it’s warmThe cocktails are great. Last time I was there they were even making their own flavor infused vodkas...you don’t see that everywhere! Highly recommend stopping in.
We found the restaurant by chance and didnt know what to expect. The interior is nice. Other than the booth are a bit tight on the first floor, it is quite elegant inside. I dont know if there is any dress code and I advise to at least dress decent.Food is great. All four of us enjoyed our meal. They have a few vegetarian options and my veggie burger was very good. My cousin ordered some pasta with minced meat and they said it was not easy to make it so delicious. He said many other Italian restaurants will make it the lazy way but in here they cook it properly and he was highly impressed how good his meal tasted.Services is very good. The staff know their stuff. Good knowledge about wine and cocktail. They are attentive and seem to come around at the right time always.Price is reasonable and it worth every penny for our meal. I will definitely go back when I am in the area next.
Upscale and energetic, the food is very good. Went there New Years day for supper. It can be very noisy though. The reception desk is located immediately adjacent to the dining area but should be isolated, perhaps by a noise- absorbing screen? The phone was ringing constantly and its set on high volume to be heard above the background. After placing our orders we asked to be moved upstairs. Everyone was very gracious and accommodating which was truly appreciated since the drinks bread etc had to be relocated and it was busy. The noise level was somewhat better since its an open balcony. At least we werent next to the phone. And we could enjoy the holiday lights and decorations/ people watching from up there. My husband has had several business lunches there and highly recommends it for that. If you want a quiet, intimate meal, try to pick a slow night. But its a popular place so thatll be difficult.
Did a lunch here, and it was solid. As mentioned by others, the cost for the lunch/brunch menu is a bit high (hence 3 stars instead of 4). For the kind of money spent, there are plenty of other establishments within the area. 2 for lunch, one drink each, appetizer plus an entree (simple pasta, and a personal pizza) ended up being around $65 a person, without tip. Again, food was solid, service was great. However I feel the price would keep me from doing lunch here in the future. I can get similar meals, of the same quality, with the same atmosphere and service, elsewhere. Will update if I return for dinner.
Excellent gourmet food. Great plate presentation. The place is very noisy. If tables are available up in the loft ask to be seated up there. Much less noise. Also if you are with someone who cant climb stairs...there is an outside elevator to take to get up there....The food is pricey but service and quality are excellent. The inside of the place is nicely decorated. Lots of wood and metal really make it appealing to your experience. The Edison light fixtures above the bar are very cool looking. You will be happy you dined here.
Like usual, the food, drinks and ambience was excellent. Until we looked into kitchen and several staffs were without mask. Quite baffled that the staff and management would take the health and safety of their customers so lightly.Probably never going to back at this place during or after COVID. Pity, if even good restaurants like this one can not ensure proper hygiene and safety Regis that the pandemic demands.
We managed to slip in here at the communal table, which nobody else ended up sharing with us, but Id definitely recommend getting a reservation if youre coming here. I had the house salad and it was really delicious, a great dish, relatively light, not too much food. A friend I was with had the seared tuna and gave it rave reviews as well. Certainly a great spot not too far off the highway and worth a stop for a bite.
Not the usual...chicken wing appetizers were dry and veal Milanese was so thin and dry I had to send it back, I could cut or chew it. Having said that, the wait staff and management were very accommodating. They were polite and courteous and brought me Gnocchi instead which was delicious. The calamari appetizer was also outstanding. All in all this was an unusual occurrence at MB and they handled it so well I would return.
Overpriced! As if charging Manhattan prices at the bar wasn’t enough, they charged me twice for my bar tab.Food was “okay”. Calamari & artichoke appetizers were great. Eggplant had overpowering Smokey flavor and the scallops were undercooked in my entree.Service in the dining room was the best part of this $150 per person experience. Very disappointing. There are better local restaurants in which to spend this type of money.
Moderne Barn has a gorgeous atmosphere. Very modern farmhouse chic. Small cocktail list, but drinks are well done. Food is hot and well done. Prices are a smidge higher than I think they should be for what you get and service could be a little friendlier. Overall, nice place.
Beautiful, cozy place! Im sure this venue gets quite busy during regular times (pre-Covid), but for now, my friend and I enjoyed ourselves very much without too many people around, with good food and drinks, and in a beautifully decorated space with pleasant music in the background. Wait staff was awesome!
Place is super cute and drinks were great! Shrimp appetizer also slamming. The banana bread French toast another winner! Where they fell short the burrata appetizer was a flop, not oozy and cheesy like burrata should be! The breakfast pizza in my mind the eggs would be better runny versus hard on the pizza. Another skip! Sadly that was our Vday brunch and left leaving wanting more :(
Man, Im so disappointed in this place. Made reservations in advance for my wifes birthday. There was 8 of us. We had to send back an old fashioned that was specifically ask for in the sweet side. It literally had no sugar. We ordered 3 pizzas, only one tasted like anything. Entrees were delightful, which was good. Dessert was whatever. Nothing special. Very disappointed.
Loved this place from the moment we entered the restaurant, amazing setting, beautiful relaxing atmosphere. Our bartender Joe was outstanding, very friendly made excellent recommendations, food was great... so many choices. 💕 Strawberry Shortcake was to die for... will defiantly return.
Across the board this restaurant gets a five star rating. From the hostess who greeted me and gave me a nice quiet corner table upstairs to all of the waitstaff , management I tip my hat. The ambience is stunning and the food was excellent, from appetizers to desert. Our first time there and surely not our last.
This restaurant is in the beautiful town of Armonk. We had a great experience with the top notch customer service provided by our waitress. Parking is great, easy to make reservations. Be aware of the menu items. We got spicy sausage flatbread and it came with Parmigiano cheese (not listed in the menu) and the meatball (which had that spicy kick) not good for our kids (again not listed in the menu). The menu is awesome and we will definitely be back.
Went for a baby shower. Food was good but my slmon burger buns were hard as a rock. The salmon burger itself was great. Some of the servers (or perhaps theyre food runners) had bad attitude. That I did not appreciate, especially since Ive been there before and didnt have that experience.
Large noisy place inside but lovely outside on the patio ! I loved my poached eggs on crab cakes with Hollandaise sauce. My wife was very dissatisfied with the lunch Gyro with a small amount of old tasting tough lamb. The waiter was very quick to replace her meal with another! Smart server who did not miss a beat .. . He saved the day ! We will be back .
Love this place for every single reason. Ample parking. Great staff and service. Delicious food. Beautiful decor. Had mixed drinks, a couple of appetizers, main dishes and desserts and all were not only made to perfection but brought out appropriately right after the other. Highly recommend.
I thought I would give this place another try since the first time was a terrible experience. ( food wasn’t cooked right, order wasn’t correct etc)If you like to pay extra money for regular diner food then this is the place for you. Portions were average ,food was mediocre and they still do not have a non-dairy alternative to use.I came here to support a local business but in reality it was just overrated diner food. I won’t be coming back.
Disappointing. Been here once before and it was memorable but this time was just sub par. Service was definitely off and the food was as 3 stars indicate just okay. Not sure what happened?Had the meatball flatbread pizza to start. The meatballs were dry and to heavy for the thin crust as it all just fell apart. The crust was bland . The best part was the crushed tomato sauce and creamy ricotta.Had the steamed pork dumplings as my main which were excellent. My husband ordered the filet mignon, medium which came out well done. Sent it back. Apparently, the kitchen was in a rush to correct it and sent it out rare the second time. Third time it was corrected but an almost $40 piece of meat lost its appeal. They tried to be nice gave us a free dessert to compensate which was was appreciated. Sub par service at best. When cleaning away our plates, food dropped on the table from the plates and it was left there for us to manipulate? For the money you spend here I feel it was a let down. Sorry, MB the 3 stars were earned, you can do better.
Went to Moderne Barn yesterday for restaurant week. I had the tomato soup and cheese crouton for an appetizer. I had the filet mignon for the main course which was delicious. Absolutely phenomenal. And the lemon cheese cake for dessert. I believe the cheese cake was house made and you could really taste the ricotta cheese. The lemon was not overpowering as well. Also it was topped with blueberries. Excellent presentation and fantastic service. I am so glad that I heard about them on instagram and foodie blogs. Always wanted to try and so glad I did. My guest had the rock shrimp and lobster bisque which looked good and they said it was delicious.
Very tasty seafood, pizza, and bar food. Surprisingly kid friendly on a Friday night. Plenty of tables for walk-ins at 6:30p. Service was almost fine, turned slower as it got busier. Kids options are plentiful, but not on the menu: you have to know to ask. Excellent bar options. We loved the calamari, roasted cod, and beignets for dessert.
I ate at the Moderne Barn today for Thankgiving dinner. It was our first time at this restaurant and our first time having Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant. The restaurant was beautiful and the ambiance was perfect. Everything was delicious, the soup the Turkey entree, drinks and dessert. The reason for the 4 stars was because the stuffing, which must have been cooked in a mini custard dish, was like a hockey puck. I love moist stuffing so I was quite disappointed, but aside from that it was a great experience. Hopefully next time, they will just put some moist stuffing under or beside the turkey.
I had the seafood risotto and found it to be meh at best. Lots of nice shrimp but the calimari was overcooked and tough and the seasoning was uninspired. Restaurant was noisy and I thought the meal was on the expensive side. Only two high points were the bread and the service both of which were very good.
Nice place it was my first time Dont know much about it. I had a fish dish And the muscles was good my friend had the bolognese pasta I have to be honest it tasted like chef boyardee. And believe me Ive eaten in places like Dominicks in the bronx, Carlos in Yonkers, moderne pizza restaurant new Rochelle, julios in Yonkers. And how is it you charge different prices for drinks from bar area to Dining Room area . Never heard of such things. Anyway maybe Ill come back.
Common fare prepared very wellWe were 4 on a Monday night. Service was very good, prompt and articulate with good bus support. The interior is very tastefully done with ample lighting that isnt too bright with dark wood tones. However the noise level was high with a moderately filled restaurant.Based on a recommendation we all had the meatball appetiser, which was clearly no mistake. It arrived with 3 meatballs in a tomato sauce with fresh cut basal and a spoon of Ricotta. The Ricotta was a nice contrast to the meatballs. They were hot and the Ricotta was cold. They were smartly spiced with no spice prevailing. In a red wine you would call it full-bodied. The Ricotta was just the right Sweetness from not being fermented to form a complement to the meat. The Chicken was on the bone with polenta and sauteed spinach. The Chicken had a nice glaze and was not dry.The Salmon was ordered medium and was Exceptional with delicate flavors preserved and a tiny bit of crispness on the outside. My filet mignon was great! I had ordered pink warm center, and it came out perfectly prepared. It was served with Stringbeans that were flavorful and still had some bite and a small amount of mashed potatoes. The coffee with desert was really good and the milk that came with my coffee was prewarmed.Every one else had the brownie which was multi layer, one of them was peanut butter flavor and topped off with ice cream and a caramel drizzel.I was told it was very rich and too much(What are they nuts:too much chocolate?)I chose the lemon cheese cake. It was topped with ricotta and two raspberriesI liked it because it was not too sweetThe lemon was strong but not overpowering with clear cream cheese flavors on a graham cracker crust, about 3 in size. I too could not finish it.
We each had tuna melts that were not enjoyable. They will watery and the cheese was missing. We complained to the Owen and he compted our deserts which was nice but not the reason for our complaining. This was our second visit. The first visit was alright. We will give it another try but will. It order the tuna melt
Went yesterday and chose from the restaurant week prix fixed dinner menu. I had the tomato soup with cheese crouton, the filet mignon and the lemon cheesecake. My company had the lobster bisque and filet mignon as well and the rock shrimp and fudge brownie. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly and you could cut it with a butter knife. It was so tender and still juicy. I had it cooked well. The rock shrimp looked good and the lobster bisque was a huge hit. I definitely will come back soon.
My family has lived in Armonk for over 30 years, and has visited Modern Barne since it first opened. As an NYU student, I asked one of the owners, Brian, for five minutes to ask some questions as part of a research paper during a rainy night when there were zero customers. He rudely turned me away and said hed contact me if he was interested. Great way to treat your patrons.
Excellent, the meatball app is fantastic, from beginning to end, I wish there was more stars to give, had Anthony for a waiter, suggested his favorite, couldnt be a nicer person, everyone in modern barn warn so nice , a must go,wont be disappointed, keep up the good work modern barn
If you are thinking about moving to westchester and having kids, come to moderne barn first. Preferably during brunch. Feel the tension seep out of everyone at the table. Listen to the monotonous droning of the housewives, watch their husbands feign interest. Repent and regret oh wayward pastel souls, where have you gone astray.

2022-02-09Great restaurant! I had the seafood risotto and my friend had the pasta bolognese. The seafood risotto was delicious, however I was hoping it wouldn’t be as salty, but I still enjoyed it. The cheesecake is a must! You can tell it’s home made. I’ve come here a few times and will continue to dine in. The wait staff was so friendly and the decor is well done!

2022-06-12I hadn’t been to Moderne Barn in a few years and went back today with a family that included a six year old and a two year old. The staff, especially our waiter, were phenomenal. They cleaned up after two big spills with the greatest of ease and were very attentive to our requests. The food was amazing. I had the Huevos Rancheros and it was among the best I have ever had. Everyone loved what they ordered. It was a memorable meal. I can’t wait to go back.

2022-05-24What was turning out to a completely terrible night was rectified by Dustin and Gabriel who were extremely professional and knowledgeable in their trade - our original server was absolutely rude and unprofessional- he ordered the wrong food, delivered wrong items and after we had touched the food, he dared come back and took it off our table without a word and served it to the table next to us - we complained to Gabriel and he immediately took action - the food turned out to the great and the drinks were really good as well - the steak was cooked to perfection and all the appetizers were delicious - we will definitely come back

2022-04-13Awesome service and creative food! The bread pudding was especially yummy!! Well separated, still with the safety partitions, which I appreciate.

2021-05-14Beautiful venue. Service was extremely slow. We were there an hour before someone took our food order. At least we had each other and our wine to keep us busy. Some of my food was served cold. Restaurant Week options were good. Food was ok but overpriced on regular menu. Reviews seem mixed so it seems to be hit or miss here. Manager had an attitude. Did not feel they went out of their way to earn a return visit from us. The atmosphere means nothing if the experience is hollow.

2022-01-22My wife and I ate here last night in a whim. We were in the area after my son’s basketball game. The restaurant is beautiful. It would fit in nicely at Killington Vermont Sk Area. It’s very woodsy. Both of our meals were excellent and so was the service. My wife had the pasta and I had the tuna. My tuna was prepared perfectly and it was very tasty as was all the sides. Desert was also very good. I could and would highly recommend this restaurant, enjoy.

2022-04-07Great ambiance, good wine and good service. Sadly the food was disappointing. Some items such as the whipped burrata, octopus, fusilli vodka were major fails. This place used to be very good. I hope they can bring the food back to how it was.

2022-03-22Food was ok, customer service was very disappointing. The server, Caesar, was extremely rude and unprofessional! It was such an odd experience, he was handing out appetizers and completely ignored me. When dessert and coffee were being served, no one asked if we wanted regular/decaf, tea, etc. Coffee was served randomly to people at my table. I asked Caesar for tea and his response was, Oh, you want tea? I received my tea and there was no milk or a spoon! Its not rocket science! I tried to speak to the assistant manager (cant remember his name) and the manager, Marisa, but they were no where to be found! If youre going to charge top dollar for food, customer service should be your #1 priority!
