First time ever that my lady and I had Indian Cuisine. This place was absolutely awesome! Balwinder Singh the owner and his staff are amazing! The food was unbelievably good! We had the chicken tikka masala and another chicken kabob in a yogurt type sauce. Also had the vegetable samosas as an appetizer. Really good as well. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend you give Moghul a shot!
Food might be good but for an empty restaurant, 2 chefs in the kitchen and a useless guy who answers the phone but can’t take an order it’s not worth my time or hassle.I ordered a soup & salad and it took 45 minutes to prepare and when I got to the restaurant it still wasn’t ready so I left. Something very sketchy was going on in there.
Hands Down The Best Indian Restaurant In Vestal & BinghamtonMy wife and I are from Toronto where we are spoilt with Indian food available at every nook and corner of GTA. My wife is currently doing some training in Binghamton and we chanced upon this placed by happenstance. We were in a rush and hungry, as such, called and asked (Stephen) if we could order in advance. They gladly did so and we did not expect much and was glad anyways as the food was available without firther delay after a 7 hour drive from Toronto. We were quite frankly blown away by the quality and taste. This cant get any more authentic. The service was nothing short of phenomenal. This is also in our experience, the only Indian fine dining places in Vestal. The price was also very reasonable for the investment they made in this place and I really hope they stay in business with such low rates. Highly recommend this place and their Tandoori Chicken sizzler!
From 6/20/2020: Absolutely, supremely disgusting. Its not the old Moghul. Our chicken dinner was comprised of literally four cubes of chicken, and everything was greasy and spilled out all over the other containers. The curry-based meal tasted the exact same as the almond-based meal, and looked the same. The naan was soaking wet somehow. Small portions, excessive grease, generic, similar flavors across all meals, you name it. Please save your money and go somewhere else.
I went here ten years ago. Then, it was elegant, nearly opulent. The food was incredible.Today, it was horrible. The service was substandard, with the host/waiter wearing sweats, slow to take our orders. The food was not nearly hot enough, no scoop for the rice, the restaurant dilapidated, filthy fish tank, and one staff member sleeping in a booth, another customer angrily demanding how long until his to go order was ready. The staff were nearly as slovenly as the restaurant. I was so disappointed...
Had a great first experience at this place, thought it was a great, new Indian restaurant to enjoy. My second experience, I will never come back. There was a cockroach or some sort of bug in my chicken box to go. Absolutely disgraceful. If this allowed me to post photos I would post the photo as proof. I would advise people take their business elsewhere.
Me and my girl wanted to get some food at this place that she mentioned! i made a order to pick up when we called he was telling us that he was busy but when we went there he wasnt that busy at all and when we got our food he was so rude then they didnt even put the silverware with the order when I called back that he didnt he was telling us we have to mention we needed to ask for it what kind of restaurant you have to ask for silverware for a to go order even when they dont serve they should ask if we need it
The restaurant served grilled minced chicken overly salty (not spicy but salty) and tried to convince us that it was lamb sekhkebab. We had reservation at 6pm, so the restaurant knew there would be 6-8 people coming. However, it took them long to serve us. Seemed like they were not ready to host us. They had no chai to serve, and when asked for hot beverage, they brought coffee instead. I am not going there again.
Worst ever experience with this restaurant. I would stay in hunger than ordering food here. Tandoori chicken is not even cooked properly. The chicken is raw. No salt no spice. Food is bland. Gobi Manchurian is mixed with jam :( Please don’t opt for late night ordering. I regret my choice so much. And the worst part is the expense of this food.
I highly recommend this restaurant, we found the food to be authentic and flavorful. The staff were courteous and helpful. It does help to let them know your preference for spice / heat level. The chicken bhuna was absolutely delicious, as were the malai kofta and vegetable biryani. We will certainly be visiting Moghul again.
Watch your credit / debit card statements. The waiter decided he needed a $10 tip on a bill of 23.65. I authorized $27.65 and my account was charged $33.65. I can guarantee the recipt copy they have is not in my handwriting nor will it have my signature. The restaurant has not been in contact with me at all . Be very careful they will rob you .
If there was negative rating I would have done that. The waiter didnt know the food he was serving. he even forgot that he didnt serve our food. The taste of the food was horrible. The waiter didnt know the difference between house biriyani and chicken biriyani. I ordered chicken tikka masala and they served butter chicken. The manchurian chicken I ordered asked for spicy and they made it sour. The sweet lassi they served as sour ones. Probably thats their tagline, we serve everything sour. I wasted my time, money and energy by going there.
Edit: Increased rating due to response from owner reaching out asking for specific feedback, which is a very positive thing and I appreciate them asking. Original: Overall much more negative than I remember it being. It used to be such a nice date spot. From the service to the (un)cleanliness, it was just so sub-par. The food was edible, thats about it.Specific feedback: on arrival, it took a little bit of a wait to seat us (we were the only ones there), and my date and I noticed some food had been spilled on the floor, which is normal, its a restaurant. There was a mess, and a mop and bucket next to it. What we found to be strange however was both the spill and the mop and bucket filled with dirty water remained there during the entirety of our stay, right near our table. Employee was probably in the middle of cleaning and got busy. It just doesnt help the appetite/atmosphere. She seemed stressed out and I felt bad about that for her sake because at that point we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Its a stressful time. We wanted to support local business but maybe it just was a bad time of the day.Food was greasy but decent, the rice and naan were 4/5, very good which is great because they are the basics. The tikka masala was decently spiced but I have had better. Same for the goat. I enjoyed it well enough my date did not and his stomach was bothering him after. We asked for more naan halfway through and it was fresh and hot and delicious. The booth seats were covered in tablecloths, which is concerning for two reasons, one being: what was so bad about the seats that they had to be covered? Second reason: table cloths do not stay in place on vinyl upholstery so we were sliding all around on it and almost getting tangled in it when we got up from the booth. With the slushy weather, the slip hazard from the mess on the floor, and the slippery booths we just felt like anywhere we were was a trip or slip hazard. Again, probably a timing issue but as soon as we paid and got up to leave, someone started cleaning it up. I think it should have been cleaned before we were sat.It has been a few years since I have been on a date there and like I mentioned the service and atmosphere was a lot better back then and it might be the pandemic causing everyone stress. I would still give them a chance because there are not a whole lot of options for Indian but it could have been much better the last time I went a few weeks ago. I hope this review is not too harsh. Times are tough and we wanted to support a business safely and respectfully.
We ordered delivery on three items: vegetable biryani, bhel puri, and cauliflower manchurian. The bhel puri was so bad and we could tell that it was stale. It smelled like the Indian snack mixes that are expired. I feel like they sent us extra chutney to cover up for that nasty dish they sent us. The vegetable biryani tasted like they threw a bunch of lemon juice and food coloring all mixed up with frozen vegetables and rice. I felt bloated taking a bite of that so I would assume there was MSG in their foods. We had to throw away the bhel puri immediately because it was a huge disappointment. The cauliflower manchurian had soggy cauliflower and a bunch of cheap hot sauce was drowning it. Never ordering from there again . I would say if you want Indian food, try the other great ones in the area. They never disappoint!!! I feel happy feeding my family good quality food but never again from here.
Tried this out for first time today. Sign set up at door advertises a lunch buffet but are informed upom entering that lunch buffet not available. Dining room was dirty and dingy, seats are torn and patched with duct tape. The linens on table were stained and did not feel clean. I was handed a dirty bread plate. Despite all the red flags I went ahead and ordered the masala dosa. I am then informed that in addition to not providing the advertised buffet they have no masala or anything with egg. It was at this point that I left and will never return. What a dissapointment!!
Extremely poor. They will make you wait for 10 mins to get water and take order. Then another 40 mins for food. Food isnt that great too.The waiter has no clue on how much time it will take and no courtesy to answer basic questions. There were tables beside ours where guests got food but no plates for 5-10 mins. Extremely poorly managed.Would never recommend anyone to go there.
Wonderful food and slow service at the bar averages out to a 3 for me. It was me and one other table in the bar area and I had to wait an exceptionally long time for service. The bartender wasnt bad, just not attentive. I would go back and try the dining area or get take out because the food was outstanding.
Used to go here all the time since it was the only decent curry joint in town. Last straw was when a manager told us that someone had claimed the free meal voucher they gave us for screwing up our last order: Everything was inedible due to the spice (we asked for none) and items had been missing on a $100 order. FYI, the manager who refused to honor the voucher didnt bother to confirm our identity nor the identity of the people who used [the voucher] already
I must say Im not impressed with their overall quality. The types of dishes cooked here Im very familiar with as many of my family and friends cook this style of food. I believe theyre over priced and some of their dishes are bland they are probably able to get away with the lack of taste in some of their dishes because there really isnt anyone else like them in the area. It feels kind of squooshy especially if you come with a large party, theres this pole thats in an awkward place and just gets in the way also, their decor is old and needs a revamp. Some positives are that they do serve good portions and their rasmaly is yummy. Its not a terrible place to go but its definitely not worth 5 stars.
I have found that when it is crowded, the food is ok. It is also a bit pricey. When the place first opened, it was definitely better. I think they cater to people based on what they THINK you would like. When I went with my Indian friends( not to sound racist) the food was spicier and much tastier. When I went with my very white looking friends, the food was very bland and I had to ask for it to please be spiced up...and I had ordered the same thing. Not sure if they did this because I looked very unable to tolerate spicy food, but I was very disappointed.
Not one member on staff was wearing a mask. Menus were dirty with food and prints. And the server actually took our rice off from a buffet chaffing dish and served it to us? #Covid-19 awareness?? NOT! Taj was so much better. Especially Service and Cleanliness. I managed three different full service restaurants in NYC, and if this ever happened I would have fired the server and dishwasher!
The food here is amazing. Easily one of my favorite restaurant in the area. The only problem is that its also one of the most expensive restaurants in the area. The menu selection is quite a treat, and the serving size is usually just right. Depending on what you order, you might feel a bit jipped, but that seems normal these days. Drinks menu is pretty good if youre after a nice cocktail. The wine selection is average, but definitely marked up too much. The staff is always pleasant and helpful, and the location and decor is great too. Overall, its a must try.
Best Indian Cuisine Restaurant in the Binghamton area. The environment was extremely clean, nice and had a great sense of Indian culture which was inspired in the design of the place. The service was remarkable and the food was so good. Couldnt ask for more. Also, the lunch buffet at $12 is a great plus. Well done Moghul!
We took 3 chicken biryani and 1 chicken tikka. Both are the worst I have ever eaten. Being an Hyderabadi I don’t even call it a Biryani. If you are used to Hyderabadi biryani skip this restaurant. Who cooks biryani with breast pieces??? Price was also high compared to other restaurants in my place.
Ithaca has decent Indian food but - to my western palate - this is by far my favorite in the region, recommended to me by a colleague who grew up nearby. Great flavors and ingredients, many interesting choices, nice, relaxing atmosphere, and very professional service. Worth the detour when driving down to NYC.
The prices here are not easy on the wallet. That said, if youre looking for a unique dining experience this may be worth a couple extra bucks. I am not sure how true this place is to authentic Indian food, but as a rookie I found all of their dishes strange and delightful. Mango lassi drink was great for clearing the palette and working you through the heat or spiciness of a dish. The atmosphere is great. The buffet is insane in my opinion... it comes in at around 18 bux but its the tastiest buffet in town IMO.
I will not give even a star. The soup was spoiled as though it was prepared a day earlier. I like spicy food and ordered for a chicken gravy but after having that 2 days my stomach was burning. Dont try any any food there. I am not at all satisfied. Customer service will be good but food completely hectic. In addition I went on a weekend.
Came here for a date night with my girlfriend. She loves Indian food and the Moghul on campus at Binghamton University is one of her favorites. We came here and the food was pretty good. I got great lamb kabob and my girlfriend got chicken vindaloo. The service was slightly slow but not too much of a big deal. It was only pretty slow considering that there were not many people in the restaurant.
Food was good; service was terrible! After waiting for almost half an hour for naan in a lunch buffet; I was charged extra for the naan.I didnt understand it because it was a Buffet (unlimited food)! The server told me that in a buffet, only half a naan is free. Finally after pointing the issue out, my final bill was corrected. I have been coming here from past 2 & 1/2 years; but after this incident I dont think I will be coming back here.Common Moghul, you are better than this!
Lovely little Indian restaurant in Vestal. The staff was very friendly. I havent had Indian food in such a long time and when we saw this place we knew that we had to try it out. They had a variety of Indian beers in stock which was awesome. The lamb biriyani was amazing! It definitely made the experience worthwhile just for that. The vindaloo chicken was good, a little spicer then what I was expecting. The poori was huge! Good restaurant all around.
The food was good, along with the waiter. We had a 25 dollar off coupon that was purchased a while ago, and we were told that they wouldnt be able to accept it after we ate our meal. It clearly states on the coupon that it never expires. This poor customer service was very disappointing. Unfortunately we probably wont be returning because of this situation.
Liked the atmosphere, service was slow, and wait staff was always in a hurry. When asked, waiter only recommended the two most expensive entrees on the menu. When I said I didnt want to spend that much, he seemed like he didnt have any other recommendations. I liked the presentation of the food, and it was good. Tried chicken tikka. The chicken was overcooked, the rice and tomato based cream sauce that came with it were good. Kandharri naan bread was excellent, though it didnt sound too appealing. Id highly recommend it, and I would go back to try more entrees.
We had an amazing experience. The place is clean, the atmosphere was very pleasent.. Food was fantastic!! Prices are very reasonable. The waitress Rosaline was the best! She helped us in our choices as it was our first time for my birthday... We were delighted expecially the mango lasi smoothie... We recommend Moghul and definetely will go back and try the buffet next time.
Worst place ever. Its a goddam buffet. Ppl can eat whatever they want. I found that a chicken dish chicken was empty on the chafers. Upon requesting to fill it up, he says and i quote these Americans eat up all the food. Its starters, not the main course. . If you charge 16$ for a buffet this bad and comment on the native ppl, i really dont understand your professional ethics. Its a pakistani hotel, calling themselves indian. Worst experience. Worst food. Me and my friends left within 10 min of arrival
Ive gotta say, I used to come here for Chicken (back in like 09-10) and wasnt impressed with the food.As of lately however, it has been quite delicious. The service has been fast and respectful, the prices are more than fair, and the portions are quite good.My girlfriend and I usually get an order of Chicken Tikka and some naan. The chicken is high quality and is spiced and cooked just right - every single time. The naan is also great. Its a clean, happy, and nice atmosphere. 9/10.
Got some delivery and it came in 50 minutes and was so delicious. Just what I needed on a crappy day in Binghamton after 3 days of clouds and rain on a Sunday for dinner. Would recommend it to anyone in the mood for some Indian Cuisine. Gonna have to explore the menu some more, I played it safe with the meat samosas and the Chicken Tikka Masala which were both fantastic, however they have a large menu and looking forward to sampling much much more.
Got dinner from the new owners tonight . Sorry We did. Food was small quantities, Paneer Kadai was up charged without prior notice. Instructions were not followed. No attention to details. We felt supporting local businesses was the thing to do during this difficult time of COVID pandemic. They don’t think they need the assistance from the community. When I called them to report the problem, no solution was offered. A weak insincere apology. Would no longer support this business.
Easily my favourite restaurant in the Binghamton/Vestal area (and I have eaten at almost all of them) The food is authentic and tasty, the atmosphere romantic, the wine list is good (try the Kim Crawford) and the service second to none. Many of the reviews here say that Moghul is expensive - I beg to differ! Where else can you get a main course for as little as $12? And if you really want a full belly try the daily lunch buffet for around $15 you will leave happy although you wont be able to button your pants for a week! Unless your tastes run to the local burger joint this place is a must (especially on date night).
Very bad service. We ordered aloo paranthas for take out. We were told 15 minutes and they made us wait for 30 minutes after committed time. Quality of food was very bad. Not properly cooked and very oily. I felt pukish after eating a little. I hate to waste food bur we ended up trashing it. Rest of my family had to re buy from subway.
I would say not for South Asians. I ordered based on a recommendation but the food was not tasty at all. I ordered a fish dish and a lamb dish and both were like that. Also ordered 3 types of naan. but they were ok. They need to marinade the fish and the lamb more. Not enough Indian spices and salt. But I will try one more time.
Ambiance - GoodReceiving us in reception took 30 minsTaking our order 30 minsGetting your food ready on your table 30 mins which is reasonable. Please don’t think we went in busy time, only 2 ppl was there for serving 5 tables...Totally unwelcoming!!!!Only one loyal lady was serving us.... Appreciate her.We have ordered the following items and rated out of 5Poori - 2/5Garlic Naan - 5/5Paneer masala - 5/5Masala dosa - 2/5
We (group of 5) went there for lunch. The ambiance of the place was impressive. Because there were less options on the Buffet, we asked the guy whether we could order from the menu. He was very rude in his response. Anyways we decided to go ahead with Buffet. Was very upset with the tandoori Chicken since it was tasteless and not fully cooked. On asking for more Naan, the guy told us that only 1 piece Naan was served with the Buffet. We told him that we will pay for the extra Naan and he still refused. Later, I asked him to refill the Onion Bhaji since it was over, he became very rude with us. I would say terrible service. I suggest save your $$$ and take you business elsewhere.
This is truly wonderful Indian cuisine, served in a lovely setting with a friendly and solicitous wait staff. I have recommended this restaurant to many as the best in the area. Personal favorite dishes include the Chilean sea bass cooked in the tandori oven (two pieces, large portion), any of the saag dishes, the tandoori chicken, and the biryani. The mango and pistachio ice cream desserts are special. I also frequent on a weekly or semi-weekly basis the lunch buffet, which is, not surprisingly, excellent and varied from day-to-day. Highly recommended!
By far, the food taste out of this world, Ive been to Indian restaurants in nyc, Chicago, and places in nj, the food here taste fantastic. The place feels exotic and the people are great. This is a must see restaurant for any one seeking mild, med, and my favorite spicy Indian food (vegetarian and also non-veg)
Menu prices were a little on the high side but the lunch buffet was great! If the quality of the dinner entrees are as good as the buffet, the price seems well worth it! Service was excellent as well. Maybe a little formal for this location but that is a small criticism.
We were on the way back to New York City from upstate New York when accidentally we discovered this hidden gem in New York. Excellent customer service, friendly and attentive behavior of the servers. Would love to go again whenever i get a chance. The “Lasuni gobi” we had was amazing and a different taste of “Lamb biryani”. They give you crackers while you wait.
We order Eggplant Crisp, lasuni Gopi, matar mushroom, Tandoori Machee and Manglorean Fish curry. Eggplant crisp was OK. Very thinly sliced eggplants were fried with batter and topped with sweet tamarind chutney. Lasuni gobi was good (not very sweet). Matar Mushroom was also delicious. Tandoori Machee was not well marinated. Except a very thin outer layer, the fish tasted almost raw. Mangaloren Fish curry was Ok perhaps a little bland for us.
F ed up went 3 time tonight n they were closed no notices or nothing .. So they have lost my business and for any one thinking of trying them dont there reliability sucks ..and came to currys of India and got my hearts n tummy filled with much better food lots of it too

2022-03-17This restaurant is conveniently located around the corner from Planet Fitness. Stopped in for lunch after a 2 hour workout to replenish my carbs and proteins.Soon as I walked in, I was greeted and sat immediately by the very courteous host. He served me water and hot fresh naan right away. The naan was 💣I was going to order off the menu but opted with the buffet since the food was already ready. I wasnt that adventurous today, just ate a ton of chicken curry with rice. It was pretty good! I also had some Saag Paneer which was equally as good. The restaurant had a classy atmosphere to it that I loved, from the restaurant decor to the smooth soft jazz music that plays in the background. The restaurant does show its age in quite a few areas like the ripped leather in some of the seats or some of the letters that spell out Moghul above the fish tank being missing... Speaking of fishtank, I cant even lie, that water in the fishtank is atrocious and needs changed immediately.Despite those couple things.... I came here for delicious, fulfilling food for cheap and thats exactly what I got so I give this place 5*s.

2022-01-18This restaurant USED to be our favorite. It was a clean and classy place, with amazing food. We have given it so many chances but unfortunately we wont return. You enter to see a filthy fish tank full of black and green slime and grime. Which not only turns off your appetite but what is worse is that they keep fish inide of it ;( tablecloths are filthy, they dont clean them after customers.

2021-07-15I had about nine different dishes that Ive never tried before in my life! They were great! A buffet to really enjoy international food.

2022-02-10The service was so personable and attentive. The food was amazing!!! The spices used at Moghul are perfectly balanced, and the bread is just right: crispy and soft and flavorful. The lunch buffet is awesome, you should try it!!

2022-06-19You will never get your food on time, ever. Order over an hour early. If you pickup they will have it ready 20-30 minutes after pickup time. If you get Grubhub it will be 40 minutes late arriving. Depending on what day you order you’ll get the sauce that tastes like it was in the crockpot too long.

2022-05-08First time for Indian cuisine I was pleasantly surprised. Good food, good sized serving. Place was very clean, nice atmosphere.

2022-04-23This was one of the most mundane Indian food experiences Ive ever had. How do you even screw it Tikka chicken? ...I guess the same way youd mess up naan (how?!?)? The saag paneer was pretty good though, as was their mango chutney. I didnt think there was any heat whatsoever, but my wife said that it was the perfect level for her (which really just reinforces my belief that there wasnt any).Meh. Not horrid, but Im not going back.

2020-09-25It’s been a while I visited there, before pandemic. first felt nice to see an Indian restaurant in that small town. It has nice a ambience and prime location. Though the taste of food was okay on average side and service was super slow even when it wasn’t busy at all. They can do much better and improve themselves.

2022-04-05After Taj Tandoor burned down a couple years ago. I couldnt find a great tasting Tikka Masala (chicken, lamb, goat) anywhere in town anymore... Ive tried every single one... (Tikka Masala, really is amazing WHEN DONE RIGHT!!! ) Taj, had the best, most flavorful, curry sauce. Like a flavor 💥 in your 👄... Mild or burn your A- 🕳️ hot!) With a piece or two of REGULAR naan bread for cleaning up.... This was devastating!!! UNTIL, I learned that MOGHUL, are relatives to the owners of the old TAJ, I called, ordered, tried it.. and I kid you not, I almost cried tears of joy... It was the SAME! AMAZING! FLAVOR BOMB I hadnt had in a couple years!. I was hesitant to try them at first, based on the reviews, which I can understand, to a point. The waiting staff are pretty much non existent, they do try, but they bring over warm tap water with no ice to start your meal... But all this is neglegible, I didnt come here to be blown away by the hospitality.... No.... Their food is GOOD! DAMN GOOD.But it seems as though, being next to Tullys in the college plaza, millennials who think its their DIVINE RIGHT to have whatever they want, when they want it. (With Daddys credit card of course) get angry with the fact theyre not handled with white gloves. If you want a refill? Call them over, need to go boxes, call em over.Im going there for the Food ..... Which is delicious.... PERIOD .. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO RATE WITH THEIR STOMACHS, NOT DADDYS PAMPER PRINCESS GRIPES... Oh.... Rice pudding!??? KHEER! YES! DO IT ...

2021-07-251st review: (2019) Definitely one of the best Indian buffets in Binghamton!!As it is Indian cuisine is known to be spicy and filled with lot of flavors. Yet moghul makes the best food with a smooth blend of flavors keeping the spice level pretty low!!And yes hands down on their Naan!! They make the best naan as per my experience!!This is a regular place for my husband and me!2nd review: (2021).Food: Was already delicious; lately it’s gone a notch up! Their buffet is totally worth it! Their curries are mild on spice & creamy, really low salt (which is a very good thing) Though I’m an Indian (spice up, salt up), I still love their food and find it perfect! Their appetizers are a treat (samosas!!!).However, there’s this one thing that’s gone bad lately - *hygiene*. In the past 2 months I’ve eaten here 3 times; not happy with the cleanliness even once. Today it was just high time I point it out! The plates were not washed properly, the dessert bowls & spoons had these bad stains on them. Considering the ongoing pandemic I do understand it’s been hard on small businesses I’m not being harsh here, but like my husband says - between improving food & cleanliness; cleanliness is the easier one! Come on guys you can definitely do better than this! (So those two stars down is for the hygiene; food here is always 5 up!)Considering the fact that this place is my favorite, I’m gonna give them one last chance sometime really hoping they’ll work better at the hygiene part!Edit 3: Gave them another try, definitely will never be back here again. Poor quality of food, terrible hygiene.
