It was just after hitting the gym for a workout that I called my dear friend to see if she was getting off work that Sunday afternoon— looking for a place we might go to after 6pm. When me met up in front of The Grand Library on Fifth Avenue & 41st, I told her [she] could decide where to go … and she picked this place called Momosan— on Lexington Avenue not far from Grand Central.Momosan is definitely quite an Asian Fusion kabosh of sorts, though, heavily Japanese inspired seeming a toss-up between Osaka or Tokyo-inspired cuisine. The place itself is really eclectic and bustling with a very hip crowd, fashionable to a point where nobody feels underrated or overdressed. Great ambiance and Sake and mixed house concoctions ! An (A+) as it were— however upon recommendation by the waitress we chose the special ramen selection with a side dish for ($25). She had the Dan-Dan which she delightfully squeaked how wonderful it was along with a side plate of huge slabs of Chicken Kaarage! Amazing. But, my Spicy Miso Vegan was plainer than Jane— looking similar to a Thai curry and tasting literally verily blander. Now, the ramen noodles were fantastic. Plus, the extraordinary deeper fried tofu cubes with kale, tomato, and, Negi (green onions). Now any true vegan would simply love it. (I, didn’t), for one reason or another. It just did not do anything for me except cure my bowels the following day. Delightful, right. But felt great! But in any event the Sake Flight really made the evening truly memorable— the Sake selection is extensive— and she loved it!! So I made no noise that she didn’t either !! Highly recommendable nonetheless. Over the fantastic crowds and by the great wait service what’s hard not to like about the place—a must as far as that goes. Try it some time. The more the merrier, it’s honestly true!! But I only date one gal at a time??
Very disappointed. The reviews made it like top 10 ramen shop in New York, however the food is not even better than a fast food ramen.First the portion is extremely small. The portion that can’t even feed my 2 years old.The chashu is a JOKE. It’s like a slice of bacon unsalted! The service is one of the most terrible, although in New York where you don’t get services, Japanese restaurants usually have relatively higher standard than American ones. Not recommend at all.
Solid bowl of ramen. the noodles are nice and chewy, and the broth is flavorful. i do think the pork was a little lacking- it wasnt super tender. FYI it is on the expensive side for ramen, and it is a smaller bowl. note that they dont take reservations, so we got there around 6 on a weekday, and it was right before a big rush.
This is an absolute gem of place. Excellent food, even better service. The restaurant is relatively small, but they have guarded each table with glass barriers. The menu is online. They have a set option where you can pick an entree and an appetizer as a combo. We tried the ramen, dan dan brothless noddles, duck taco and edamame. We were thoroughly impress with the quality and taste. I just wanted more of that Dan Dan noodles with sesame seed oil, even after finishing my big bowl. The people at the restaurant were very accommodating. We walked in the restaurant with lots of shopping bags and a baby stroller. They let us take one whole row to put our stuff and dine-in. Our server Sam was super friendly, she checked on us multiple times with our requests of replacing few ingredients in our dishes.Food taste - 5/5Food prep time - 5/5Service - 5/5Price - $$$Restroom - 4/5Items tried:Edamame- 5/5Duck Taco - 4/5Dan Dan Noodles- 5/5
Stopped by for diner last eve. No reservation necessary. We arrived at a god time around 6:30 pm as it was just getting crowded. We obtained a booth easily. The menu was fairly simple, but offered good choices. Everyone in our group was pleased with their choice. The food was fresh and flavorful.
Place is pretty good, ramen 🍜 is tasty 😋 , but the rest of the food wasn’t that great, sushi are tasteless, karaage 🍗 was cover with breadcrumbs and you can feel the oil taste, moreover when we finished we found out sauce on the bottom 😃 I believe chicken should have teriyaki taste when it is covered with the sauce. The service is great 👍
This place was actually on my bucket list for visiting NYC. My wife and I were immediately seated at the bar. Vibe seemed very authentic compared to Tokyo. I ordered spicy won ton soup, spicy tuna rolls, spicy yellow tail rolls and spicy tonkatsu ramen. All had a spicy kick but too much. Portion size was great and all of the food was DELICIOUS. The wait time for the food was a tad slow even though the place wasnt busy, but I was expecting this as everything is made to order. Extremely glad we went and will definitely visit again.
We had a great ramen and sake meal there. More importantly, there was an incident that caused my leather jacket to be irreparably damaged, but the Operations Manager, Ben, handled the situation very professionally and made me feel like they really care about their customers. Ill definitely be back whenever Im in NYC!
I hated my ramen! The noodles were a hard brick that I had to fight with to break apart. I found the thick creamy broth repulsive. I never waste anything I buy, but I couldnt bring myself to finish this! HOWEVER, the duck taco was delicious. It was very small. About the size of a silver dollar and cost over $6.
Had two momosan sets with tonkatsu ramen, tan tan ramen, kakuni bao, and softshell bao. I think tonkatsu was better as the tan tan tastes very similar to Thai red curry as its sweet and has lots of coconut milk and Id rather just go to a Thai restaurant for that. Id go with the softshell over the kakuni. Also ordered the morimoto junmai carafe which is a decent clear full bodied sake, though Im no expert. The food combined with the well kept decor and good value in the set menu adds up to 5 stars for me.
Tonkotsu ramen is light and flavourful, although I prefer my noodles to be thinner. The chasu is on the thinner side but it has a tender mouthfeel which is good. What makes this place great are the side orders like the pork buns (best I have had so far) duck tacos, tuna rice bowl etc. Second time eating here but I didnt really enjoy it as outdoor dining was cold and table was by a bus stop. A small privacy barrier would have been nice. We had no choice as some of our friends were already inside and we couldnt join them due to limited seating. F@#k Covid! I could have enjoyed my ramen more.
Really cool place and very popular (it fills up fast and doesnt take reservations). The wait staff are fantastic - they made us feel welcome, were casual and approachable but still professional and efficient. The food was delicious, from the varied appetizers to the main noodle bowl. One minor gripe is that the food came out almost too fast; we hadnt finished the appetizers when the noodles arrived. That being said, its still a great place.
The ramen is to die for at Momosan!!! Have been here many times and each time is better than the last. Had the tan-tan ramen yesterday which was absolutely divine, the broth was exceptional. But really you cant go wrong, everything is good. Good cocktails too -- I recommend the yuzu cloud.
Very delicious restaurant. They have more than just ramen but it is definitely the main attraction... well the sake is a must try as well. There’s so many to choose all of which are great. I’m not a sake Expert but what we had was great. The ambiance is also very trendy but traditional. I like the balance.
Stopped by on a Tuesday night to have dinner with friends and it was totally unplanned. As soon as you walk in you cant help to notice the ambiance and the beautifully lit bar area. We were immediately greeted and seated (party of 3). What I first loved about this place is that the hostess yells out (what I believe to be in Japanese) welcome! as he is seating us; which is followed by the rest of the staff responding welcome altogether. (One of the waiters explained this to us).As for the food, I got the chicken ramen. It was FULL of flavor; I could eat the broth alone if I had to! One of my friends got the same thing but swapped out the chicken for tofu; she enjoyed hers as well. There arent many vegetarian/vegan options. All of the broths are either chicken or pork based. Its a pretty small menu in my opinion but the options are amazing. Service was A1. The restaurant was clean.Would definitely eat here again!
Momosan has a wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and food that combines flavours beautifully. Lots of choice of sake, some nice beers on tap and ramen with a delicious thick broth and the best noodles I’ve tasted.N.B. Don’t wait outside if there is a queue. They often have tables for two so head right in and ask.
We hadn’t pre-booked a table, but luckily we were still given a nice seat at the bar, and all of the staff were so friendly and inviting towards us.We started with an amazing fried shrimp appetiser which tasted so incredible that it barely lasted 2 minutes between me and my boyfriend!Following the shrimp we ordered the Tokyo Chicken ramen and a Tonkotsu ramen bowl. This is definitely one of the best Asian restaurants in the area and we wished we had found it sooner as we’d have probably gone there more regularly!Thank you Momosan!
Went there for lunch and got lucky with 2 seats at the bar. Ramen was pretty good but the side dish was ok, we got the lunch sets for $17. I guess the quality was good for the price. The drinks were really good as well, got the mango cocktail with matcha and a Japanese whiskey on the rocks.
I was expecting more from this ramen place :(. I got the Tsukemen and my SO got the tan tan ramen (which ever had the creamy broth). The tan tan was sweet and creamy, but not really my style. The tsukemen broth didn’t really have much flavor and I was disappointed. I usually get tsukemen because the broth is richer and fattier than ramen broth, too.We also got karage chicken and the sticky ribs which were delicious and flavorful. The sticky ribs were super rich. In short, delicious appetizers but the ramen was lacking in flavor.
This place serves noodles cooked by non-Japanese chefs. The ramen fad in NYC is over but I crave for it sometimes. I quickly found this place that happens to have a lot of 5 star reviews. I feel those reviews are either fake or paid or reviewed by the individuals who had never eaten ramen noodles before. They also serve karaage cooked in Korean style. Not a fan of this kind.
I have been to Momosan twice and I really want to go again! The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The most important thing is that the ramen here is a must-try for this life! ! I have eaten pork belly and steak ramen....all are delicious and the fire is perfect. There is a wide variety of Japanese sake, and the staff can help you choose according to the food and taste you order. I think, I will try the duck ramen next time I come back!
Simply some of the best ramen you will have. Feel free to shop around to convince yourself but know that this place has no peer when it come to quality, authenticity, service, and price. The pork belly is amazing. The dumplings delicious and the noodles are absolutely fantastic. Oh and they have some great sake. Simply put - best ramen and sake in the city.
Let’s stats with the ramen. It’s excellent. I got the limited edition gyukotsu ramen which they serve only 20 per day. The broth was perfect, smooth, creamy but also light and the pepper flavoring. The braised pork and noodles completed it. But let’s be real, at $25 and with all the other ramen options in New York, it’s not something I will try again, but it’s def. worth it to try at least once. The sake and appetizers can be skipped. Nothing really stood out for me. It’s a chill vibe in the restaurant with a lot of employees, many are just hanging around at their station
Great ramen and atmosphere. Its definitely less authentic with the flavoring of the ramen and the curry on the side. The dumplings were the highlight of the show - served in a hot plate but had this parsley like sauce on top. Cooked very well and the crispiness was great but I could do without the parsley sauce. The ramen itself was pretty tasty and would definitely order it again as well as the dumplings...just a little iffy on the sauce.I did not like the wait time (obviously during lunch hour about a 30 minute wait) however the pork belly buns were pretty good.Highly recommend this place!
I generally dont expect good food around Grand Central, but this was a great find. When I saw it is a Morimoto restaurant, I had to try it. Firstly. It was a Saturday night, and we had a party of 13. Through some musical chairs, they were able to accommodate us. We started with Goyza, Sticky Ribs and Tuna. The Tuna was awesome, seasoned perfectly so you could still taste the tuna. The sticky ribs were yummy, a little sweet, savory and definitely sticky. I had the Peking Duck ramen, sooo good. We had a few other dishes, but I cant remember them all other than to say none of them disappointed. Definitely going back!
Momosan Ramen & Sake, is a new era of ramen with a twist old flavor infused with modern style. I was bit skeptical of the ramen until I tasted the spicy coconut curry ramen and it set my taste buds on fire. I was impressed with all the taco and the goyza as well. Excellent spot for modern day ramen!!!
I was in New York on a Saturday for a concert and decided to stop in here for some ramen. It was last minute decision and I did not have any reservations but being by myself I was seated immediately at the bar. I think that the tonkatsu ramen is a measure by which Ramen places can be judged and the broth here was amazing. Having an appetite I decided to get the chicken kaarage too - and it did not disappoint - the chicken was both juicy and full of flavor.
Great ramen. The tonkotsu broth is very nice. The pork is juicy and tender. The egg yolk was nice and had much umami. Very enjoyable bowl of ramen on a cold day. Friend said the salmon poke was good too.Service was good. Refilled waters when low, no ice though. The ambience and lighting was good. I could actually see the food, unlike at some restaurants with super dim lighting. Highly recommend for a dinner spot.
OMG, the Braised Beef Rib noodles are amazing - the meat is so tender and falls off the bone. It is a little pricey ($25) but so worth it considering the quantity and quality of meat. The TanTan noodles is also our favorite- the broth is extremely delicious and packed with bursts of flavors. Excellent service - our server was so smiley and sweet. Love this place.
I cant say enough good things about this place… strap in, this may take a while. We were lucky enough to discover this place early in our short visit to NY because it was close to our hotel. After a very pleasant and delicious first visit (tsukemen & sake), we kept thinking about the ribs our neighbors ordered and had to go back. Very glad we did. On the second visit we ordered pretty much all the pork appetizers as well as the chicken karaage… absolutely everything was delicious; I think even a Muslim would agree 🙃. If you find yourself here, do not pass on the sticky ribs and order a carafe of the chefs recommended sake!
I liked this place, but I feel like it did not live up to the hype. Weve tried to eat here once before, but the wait time that was quoted was too short and we waited way over the time the hostess quoted. So, we left. At another time, we were able to get in right away. It was in the back, pushed up to the wall, sharing a long table with others all along the table, like a glorified cafeteria experience. We ordered a set which came with ramen and curry. We ordered the bao with braised pork belly. The bao was tasty, but a bit overpriced. You know, its NY. Just saying. The ramen broth was nice, but the noodles were just ok. Mine were a bit undone. Could have been cooked longer. The flavor of the noodle wasnt my favorite. Ive been to Japan and have had some amazing Ramen, so I guess the noodles here pale in comparison. The curry was just okay. The server, although quite busy was super sweet and attentive. The food came out relatively quickly, but our appetizer the braised pork belly bao, came out after we were done with our ramen. That was a bit off putting, but since the bao appetizer was so yummy, it didnt matter.Overall, I would like to try this place again and get one of their specialty ramen bowls and skip the ramen/curry set.
I enjoyed Momosan, but its not my favorite spot for ramen in NYC. Flavors are vibrant and interesting. The food is good and the vibe is great: busy, dynamic. The service is OK. The hosting staff is a bit pressed by the popularity of the restaurant, and waitstaff didnt really help me find the optimal dishes. Regardless, its a solid choice, just not my top spot (which is Ippudo Westside).
Well, I can’t say enough about this restaurant. The food is delicious. Dumplings with the sauces, bao, and the RIBS which I do not have a photo of are to die for! Basically candied meat. Lastly, and most important you will have a very very very incredible ramen experience. Reasonably priced and delicious every time.
Omg the lunch set!!! 16 bucks for a small bowl of ramen and a rice bowl. And they are not stingy with the portion either. Tonkotsu ramen is tasty and perfect pairing with rice bowl. Tip: try rice and ramen broth! Best spot for a hearty lunch in the area. The only down side is that it’s pretty crowded during meal times. The atmosphere is modern and vibrant. Menu is not big but just right. I’ll definitely come back for other kind rice bowl. There’s a full bar for dinner dates too.
Yum! I was meeting some friends who wanted to visit this restaurant knowing it was owned by Chef Morimoto. I arrived early and my phone battery was low and the hostess had a charger that was used for borrowing by patrons of the restaurant; how nice! The restaurant is small but we didnt have much trouble getting seated as a group of five. I probably would warn against coming here as a larger group than maybe six? I ordered the tonkotsu broth ramen and it was definitely thick and satisfying. Some reviews said it was too salty but I didnt find it too salty at all. The half soy egg that comes with the bowl was perfectly soft boiled and probably one of the best done yolks Ive ever had. My friend ordered the beef broth soup which was very good and the beef was falling off the bone and tender. For appetizers we ordered the pig ears (yum!) and the tuna poke style plates. Tuna was very fresh and was decadent texture-wise. I dont think there was a dessert menu or maybe I dont remember seeing one because I was super full. Ramen prices were certainly fair but their cocktail priced were really high and deterred us from really indulging. Other than that small criticism, we really enjoyed our food, the atmosphere, and the service!Would definitely recommend this place to friend!
Simply the best. Randomly stumbled upon this place after a long day of work, in need of ramen. When I saw Iron Chef Masaharu Morimotos books on the wall, I knew I had hit the jackpot. The service is immaculate, the menu is robust, and the sake options are delectable. Their limited run gyukotsu braised beef rib soup is a must. There are only 20 bowls made per day, try to come early. As for sake, the Morimoto junmai ginjo, which is made with carmelized pear, is stunning. Its poured overflowing, and it paired perfectly with my meal. You absolutely have to go to Momosan if youre in the area.
Most offerings will please people but I wanted to make special note of the Spicy Dan Dan (brothless) ramen. Nice blend of spice and rich fat cut through with the veggies. Noodles are starchy with great mouth feel.Tsukumen is also good. Check it out if you’re in the midtown area.
The decorations was cool and sitting was not crowded as most ramen store. The duck taco was reallly good that I couldn’t help had one more after my first bite. I had the limited rib ramen, which was fine, but the rib was tasteless, probably due to long stew time. It was also quite pricy ( $25...) and I didn’t think it was worth it. But other ramens are good.
Food was great. We had a pork belly bun and duck taco as appetizers - enjoyed both. For entrees we had Tsukemen and Yakisoba. Both delicious - Yakisoba was too saucy for our taste. Seating was a bit tight - we were seated at the shared table with bench seating and there was no room for our coats (and no coat check I’m pretty sure) so we draped our coats over the bench and sat on it... not a huge deal, but still a downside.
Absolutely delicious. Went here for dinner and was sat right away at the bar. There was a wait for a table but it seemed to move fast. I had the tonkatsu and the nappa cabbage. Both were delicious. The napa cabbage was cold but super flavorful and the spicy mustard was tangy and sweet. The ramen wasnt spicey enough so I added some if the chili oil that was in the table and that did the trick. Everything was well balanced and the longer it say, the better it got. Highly recommend
Finally waited long enough to come here without having to wait for a table. Everything is nicely prepared, and the space is a perfect blend of contemporary Japanese design. The Peking Duck Taco delivers crunch and succulence, while the Tonkotsu Ramen is just pure deliciousness! Must come back with a group to try out all the other small plates and dishes.
One of my favorite ramen spots in the city. 3rd time here already! First time Ive gotten the karaage appetizer which was ridiculously good. And tonkotsu ramen was excellent, as the usual! This was the first time someone in my party ordered the yakisoba and that was delicious as well, our waitress brought it to the table and mixes up some of the seasoning and other toppings right in front of you (see photo). Pretty cool presentation!
Came here last night with a friend. Good food and ambience, attentive to service. We order ramen of course! Must try the Tantan ramen, if your a curry lover this is your ramen for life. There is option for a small bowl or large. Get the large you wont regret. My friend order the Tonkotsu, the slices of pork melted in your mouth. We also order the zuke don and Tetsunabe kakuni. Must order cocktails, try the mango matchashu and yuzu cloud.
Good place to get ramen, but I wish they have a vegetarian option. All the broth for the ramen is meat based. For this reason I was only able to have the rice, which was pretty good. I went with two carnivores and they liked everything they ordered. The place is always busy and usually there is a 10-15 min wait. @traveleen_gurl
Maybe one of the best ramen broths I’ve had in the city! I went with the special gyukatsu ramen. Apparently only 20 orders a day for this so come early! You get a huge beef rib in the dish and the flavors really seep into the soup. Very hearty and rich. Good amount of noodles and meat too. A bit pricey but definitely worth it!
I like both the tonkotsu ramen and bao. The ramen may be slightly on the salty side but otherwise I like everything from the noodles to the egg and the pork belly. I went on a Tuesday evening and its close to full house. I want to come back and try their special noodles next time and maybe with a sake! Found a yellow sriracha, Ive only seen and ate the red one. 😄😄😄
I love the TanTan !!! Even if It was salty, I liked the strong coconut milk soup! I didnt have to wait because I went to the restaurant for the dinner open time. If you dont like salty ramen, I would like to recommend you the Tsuke men. You can control the concentration of soup while putting ramen into the soup. It was really tasty... I have an idea to go again.
Was looking for a bite to eat in the area and stumbled upon this place. Couldnt have asked for a better find. Food was delicious, they answered questions about my food allergies with no problems and the price was right. Ive been thinking about this ramen since we went. Cant wait to go back!
The Ramen Restaurant of Morimoto Masaharu of Iron Chef Fame. Great food and service. Easy to see right off of Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. Parking on the street is available but it fills up fast especially on the weekends and at night. Parking lot near by. Long lines but it moves quickly. Will definitely be going back. Ramen portion is a little small. But very delicious. I recommend the Tsukemen Ramen and they Sticky Ribs are a must..
Superb and great prices. We were staying at the Fenwick and kept seeing lines to go in,so we planned to visit whem they open at 1130am and it worked. We sat and within 10 minutes the restaurant was full(when we arrived we were maybe the 5th table sat..), so this should tell you its quality. The ramen was delicious and not too salty (We had the pork Kontasu) as was the coconut curry ramen which I thought was divine. The ramen and small sashimi rice bowl costs $16.50 , which was a great deal . Absolutely check them out now!
I found Momosan overpriced for what they offer. My ramen was good but not worth what I payed for it. The ambience and service were food. They don’t have any vegetarian or vegan ramen, almost all the ramen has chicken of pork broth. It’s a very fancy ramen restaurant so I would go here on a special occasion.
Came here to try it since my friend told me it is done by a famous chef...but the ramen was very Salty for both of us so we just ate the egg (which was cold even though it was sitting in the hot soup) pork slice (it ain’t a chunk) and the noodles. Can feel my body retaining water as we speak .....
Got the tonkatsu with curry don and I absolutely loved it - the curry tastes just like my grandmother’s from my childhood. Absolutely delicious. Clean establishment, loved the dining atmosphere.Rated four stars because we opened the door at 11:28 and the hostess said they weren’t open until 11:30. So we opened the door right at 11:30 and she told us she would come get us when they’re ready. Right as the door started closing, she screamed that they were ready. It was just a bit unwelcoming and it could’ve been so much easier if we could have just waited inside.
Very delicious ramen shop by Grand Central. It gets super-packed so go early or be prepared to wait. Had the coconut curry ramen which was fantastic and unique, along with the marinated cabbage. Also, has a great sake selection. The waitstaff is very friendly (good level, not to peppy) and very knowledgeable.
Momosan Ramen & Sake is beyond amazing! Probably the best ramen I have ever had. I ordered a Gyukotsu Ramen bowl for dinner and it was worth every penny. I also ordered a kimchi side dish which was delicious as well! It is a cute little place, with great service and I highly recommend it!
Really great service. Had the chicken paitan ramen with a salmon don. The soup base was so flavorful and creamy. The mushrooms were so savory and went well with the soup, the chicken, and the noodles. The salmon don was perfectly seasoned. The salmon was fresh and the garlic and soy sauce seasoning with scallions was amazing. Would definitely go back to try the bao. Unfortunately, they were out of bao and gyoza when I went.
The spare ribs were insanely good. We also got pork buns which were nice, but the duck buns were so much better at just $1 more. Would recommend trying out the tsukomen ramen (dipped noodles). The noodles will have a less soggy texture and you can save yourself a ton of sodium.
I love the ramen here, fresh, spicy and the meat fall off the bones perfectly. Very reasonably priced for the quality they served. The sake collectiona are extensive and the waiter are friendly and take time to explain to you what sake goes with what and not simply pointing out the more expensive but not necessarily great drinks.
4 stars just because they took about more than 30min to serve during lunch time and we got lunch set. It wasn’t busy or packed when we got there but the moment we sat down people start coming.Isn’t lunch set supposed to be fast serve since you know customers orders it?!Anyway other than that ramen is delish I had tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen and went back again for tsukemen love both of them oh and their pork bun.One of the tastiest ramen in NYC😊oh that yellow hot sauce is the bomb.
A very nice ramen in New York. I haven’t been to Japan to try ramen, however, I found that it is the best ramen I’ve ever tried. The broth tastes very good. During the lunch time, the menu is served with a small bowl of variety dishes/sushi that you can choose. Overall, the service is very good. I recommend this restaurant for ramen lovers.
We were 2 people on Tuesday evening. The place was super busy, but we got a place on the bar after around 10 minutes only. The place looks amazing from the inside, and the staff are super friendly. The menu has a lot to offer, but yet, not too much. We took the ramen with the chicken. It was absolutely delicious. The dishes came in 5 minutes only.I would say the place gets 4.8 stars, because:1-There’s no waiting area, and you can’t make reservations. You stand next to the door until they call you.2-We were cold because of the wind that came through the half opened door.3-The place is super busy, which brings a lot of loud sounds of the guests...Other than that, everything was super, and we will definitely go back for another round.
We went here because it was freezing cold outside and this restaurant was close to our hotel. Plus, only in NYC would you randomly find Iron Chef Morimotos restaurant right down the block. The ramen was pretty good, not very memorable for me, but Im an addict and Ive had a lot in my life. I enjoyed the tsukemen, which I feel like is usually harder to find in restaurants, and I feel like the noodle texture and sauce were very well done.
Went for lunch and it was pretty good. I didnt love the soup components however I think thats just my personal tastes so I cant hold it against the place. Just seemed like kind of slimy mushrooms and seaweed. The soup base itself, pork belly, and noodles though were all yummy and high quality
Before you read any further, grab your keys and jump in a car and head to Momosan now. You can read the rest in the car.Ok, now that you are on your way get ready to have your socks knocked off.We ordered the Zuke Don and the sticky ribs to start. I he Zuke don has a delicious dressing and is garnished with micro greens and the most amazing chili threads. The tuna was super tender as well. The ribs were half the size of a pork chop and are as tender as can be. Both are exceptional. My wife had the Tonkotsu and I had the Yakisoba both were sublime.
HiP and happening ramen spot by an original iron chef. The broth is satisfyingly salty the way Hiroshima ramen should be. They should have hot water right on the tables to make it OG. The pork belly baos are tasty and not all fat which is nice, the single piece of lettuce provides enough contrast to the baos softness and the bellys fatness. Two sizes on the ramen, suggest the small and top off with other appetizers and a sake. Better than momofoku.
Its a decent ramen shop but not really worth the price. The egg was cold and same goes for the braised pork shachu. Meaning they have been prepared thus so far in advance that they had to be refrigurated. Getting a fresh hot bowl of ramen with cold add ons is just not the authentic Japanese way which I personally prefer. Still a 4 star for the amazing gyozas, rice bowls and service. 3 star for the Ramen and Bao.
This place came highly recommended and Im glad to say I wasnt disappointed in the least. I went here with a friend and without a reservation but found a seating within 5 minutes. The place got really busy later and a long line formed while we were there so I guess we lucked out. I decided to not opt for the lunch set and ordered the tonkotsu noodles which is a pork based noodles and have to say it was a great decision as I was really hungry and the portion size was perfect! My friend on the other hand was a vegetarian and could only have a beer and Edamame. The server did offer to make stir fried tofu for him but he opted out of it. Overall, great place, nice vibe and really nice service. Definitely avoid if you are a vegetarian!
Flavor and atmosphere perfection. Got here just as opened at 5pm, small line out the door already. Had the tantan ramen, spicy coconut curry- didn’t have to add a thing, but even better with their special sriracha and chili oil. My dad got one they make 20/day- if you love pork this one is for you. Gyoza came out on small iron cast and steamed in front of you. Sake poured to overflow- literally cup runneth over. Noticing the line is out door now because people know worth the wait. Oh, and as a DJ great music, pop, 90s, house. Vibes. Eat. Enjoy.
Delicious! Had the gyoza that came in a sizzling skillet with sake, the salmon sashimi dish, duck tacos and of course ramen. All were delicious fresh and beautifully prepared. Our server was knowledgeable, prompt and friendly. Great service, great atmosphere, great food!
Excellent food- some fun table side presentation and well seasoned components, which I look for particularly in Asian food. The tantan ramen was one of the most unique flavor profiles Ive experienced. A nice balance between a Thai curry and traditional ramen. Very elegant yet comforting.Barstools are affixed to the floor. I really see no reason for this practice.
I come here at least once almost every week the broth for the tonkatsu ramen is so thick and hearty you will want to go to sleep after eating it. I came here with a date on Friday and was able to finally try the dinner menu and I chose the Gyukatsu beef ramen and OMG wow what an amazing bowl it was! The beef was amazing and the broth super delicious!
My third time here - this isnt my favorite ramen in the city but the quality is good and the service is excellent so they deserve 5 stars. The ramen uses a thicker egg style noodle, which isnt my favorite since I prefer the thin wheat noodles, but if you prefer the thick ones this is the place for you. Also beware if you dont like spicy food- one of the default toppings on the Tonkotsu ramen is a bit spicy. Sake selection is amazing, and I recommend their Yuzu sake cocktail.
Great ramen place with amazing broth. My friend and I dropped by on a Friday evening while we were ramen-bar-hopping in mabhattan. The place had a 20-30 mins wait, not too bad. Momosan also has really friendly staff and bartenders. Tried the original tonkotsu ramen and the noodle consistency and soup stock was amazing! Definitely would recommend this place to others looking for a great bowl of ramen.
Great Ramen. Food was great and the place is nice. The recurrent welcome shout in Japanese, to new arrivals, I could live without, but I guess it goes hand in hand with Manhattans hectic life. I would definitely eat in this place again although its on the not-cheap range.
As a long-time fan of Masaharu Morimoto, I was more than thrilled to visit Momosan for dinner one night. The wait on a Friday night for one person was about 35 minutes. The seating is very intimate and in a busy location, so you should be prepared to wait no matter what night you visit. I had the softshell crab bao and a spicy ramen. Each item left nothing to the imagination. Such a surprising explosion of flavor from the Ramen. Momosan is the type of restaurant where, even when youre full that you cannot take another bite, you have this out-of-body urge to order more food.
Recently visited Momosan to catch up with friends on a Friday night. The wait at 9pm was 30mins+ long. After being seated, the waitress took our orders and brought out the appetizers fairly quick. The main course followed and we all were ready to enjoy. After tasting the broth of the Tsukemen it was room temperature compared to the ramen noodles. For those that are trying for the first time this dish is served in two different bowls --- Bowl A includes the ramen noddles and toppings whereas Bowl B is mainly broth. The ramen noodles and broth were cold for the 3 people that ordered the same dish. We asked if maybe the kitchen could reheat the broth and the waitress directed the manager over to out table. The night manager explained that the kitchen was unable to reheat the broth and wed have to purchase an additional side bowl of broth. We agreed. After a few minutes the same manager came back to our table and confirmed the resturant was unable to sell a side of broth but the chief could reheat the bowl. As confusing as that may sound, we decided it wasnt worth the extra wait so we continued to eat the cold broth. Both the service and presentation were disappointing. I highly suggest reconsidering this resturant if your looking for good service and quality ramen.
Incredibly tasty food, excellent service, and perfect ambiance! Really couldnt have been happier. The service was very quick, too! If youre looking for a quick and unbelievably tasty bite before you hop on a train in grand central, this is your best bet! Cant stop raving about it haha
One of the best Ramen Shops on Lexington! Please expect a long queue-- about twenty to thirty minutes of wait-- as place is always packed! However, this hole-in-the-wall is definitely Worth the wait though! Try to to sit by the bar station. The bartenders are so entertaining and knowledgeable. They can create a stronger mocktails by the way as per request
Came here for the first time and it was better than expected. Ordered the tonkotsu ramen and it was yummy! I actually ordered a small bowl because I didnt want to get too full since my whole day in NYC will just be food adventure. But after tasting this ramen, it made me regret not getting the large size!Momosan tonkotsu broth isnt the thick kind; it is cloudy and packed with a lot of porky taste. Also, it wasnt too salty and I feel that they balanced the broth perfectly. The egg was cooked perfectly- gooey! The pork was also cooked perfectly- falls apart and was tasteful! Would definitely come back!
Wow, this place! Small interior with some booths and shared tables, good sized bar. Went around 6pm on a Saturday, waited ~30 mins for 2. Ramen was delicious, steamed buns and sticky ribs were too. Also had the sake flight. All were tasty. Definitely recommend this place
I had their curry coconut ramen which was pretty delicious. The soup was rich and flavourful. The noodles were nice and chewy. I also had their tuna tartar which was pretty spectacular. As was their tofu with beef belly. Definitely worth a try but be warned there may be a line.
Its small restaurant with tasteful ambience. The hostess were pleasant and cordial. We had 20 minutes wait time Saturday evening which is decent. Our server was too occupied and we barely get tome to understand the menu, it almost felt we were rushed. We order 3 carafe of sake (3 shot glasses - $30) - the sake was outstanding. We ordered spicy ramen Tantan and Tonkotsu, both were extremely flavourful. However for any proteins there was extra add on. In all it was ok ramen place. Most reviews are based on lunch set and we went for dinner, i guess that’s why we had limited option.
About a 45 hour wait for walk in on a Wednesday night. Not a big pork eater so there were only 2 options to choose from. This place is also not vegetarian friendly! I ended up getting the chefs special with the in bone beef. VERY delicious! Wouldnt reccomend as a place if youre looking for a quiet, intimate date but its a fun experience if youre going with friends or someone youve been with for a while
This is my favorite restaurant in Manhattan whether Im with friends, coworkers, or by myself for a work trip. Consistently great food, excellent service, and fantastic drinks.I have gotten their tonkotsu ramen and the Tokyo chicken ramen and both provide a warm, balanced flavor. They removed their duck salad, which was my favorite menu item, but they still have the duck tacos which are good as well.

2022-02-08If you wanna go, you must expect some waiting time (but definitely worths the wait). I ordered the Tokyo chicken Ramen with a California sushi roll, both are tasty. The ingredients were fresh and they served a good amount of noodles. Im always searching for colon-friendly food and this is one of them.

2022-04-11I have always wanted to go to Momosan! When we arrived, we were seated immediately, parties of two must either sit at the bar or at long group tables side by side. Our waiter was prompt in his service and provided us with everything we needed for a pleasant experience. For our appetizer, we chose the firecracker shrimp in gochujang aioli. It was sweet, with a little kick that was perfect for a cold night. Our mains were a tonkatsu ramen and tan tan ramen. The tonkatsu was flavorful with a strong umami taste that was delightful to the palate. The braised pork and egg in both dishes were expertly cooked and the noodles had a great bite to them.My tan tan ramen’s broth was delightfully thick with a delightfully nutty broth with the perfect kick of spice. The broth coated every noodle evenly and was incredibly creamy.

2022-01-03It’s very good. The spicy tan-tan was delicious and I would highly recommend it. The sushi was fresh and yummy. The service was a bit slow and they seemed understaffed, but the meal was reasonably priced and tasted great. Definitely crowded at dinner on every day, so go early if you don’t want to wait for a seat. My one other criticism is the seating situation - if you are a party of two, you have to sit next to each other at a large table, facing another party on the other side. There is a plastic shield between you but it’s still awkward and not the best dining experience seating-wise.

2022-02-06Momosan was the second Tsukemen ramen spot in NYC I’ve tried this year. The noodles were nice and chewy but I think the use of pickled mustard greens might have made it too salty because the tonkotsu dipping broth was already salty. But I appreciated the focus on the broth that didn’t get diluted by adding vegetables like bean sprouts to it and the portion was perfect. I chose the meal set for a ramen and an appetizer. The chicken karaage was absolutely delicious!

2021-12-22Cozy little ramen place with some unique flavors. The tan tan men here tasted a lot like Thai coconut curry which surprised me unless this is how its suppose to be made (still very good though).I got the regular tonkotsu ramen which tasted very traditional.

2022-06-10Great atmosphere, very attentive wait staff and very fair prices for a ramen spot. I ended up getting the Tontkatsu Ramen lunch special w/ Unagi roll. And got the sizzling gyazo

2022-05-27My honest rating is a 4.5 but I rounded up.I had been planning to eat ramen in the garment district, but the spots were often too full or I never seemed to have the time. I had passed by Momosan before and thus decided to try it.It was nearing the end of their lunch time, so I was grateful to see it wasnt too crowded. Their opening shout surprised me, and I got a seat at the bar.I highly recommend their lunch combo. Its got ramen, a rice side, and an appetizer, all for about 25 dollars including tip.I ordered the tonkatsu ramen, gyudon side, and a kakuni bao. The bao and gyudon came first, and the time wasnt too long for waiting. As I sat at the bar with my water, I could watch a worker making sushi behind the counter. Momosan has a nice and dim ambience with relaxed atmosphere. The decor looks a little fancy at first, with dark colors of stone and metal, with hanging lights, and wooden surfaces. The bar is also stocked with foreign and domestic spirits. But the waiters and waitresses are very accommodating and you feel comfortable quickly.Onto the food, it was good, to be succinct. The gyudon was nice and hot, with plenty of beef and onions proportional to the rice. The onions were cooked until soft and mixed well with the slightly chewy beef. Their juices made an excellent mix with the rice, and they were seasoned well. The kakuni bao comes with lettuce and a mustard sauce, the type were you can see the grains. The pork itself was soft and tender, easy to bite through without worry of pulling it out of the bun. The bun was pillowy, and worked well with the meat. The lettuce didnt really lessen the richness of the pork, and the mustard just felt creamy rather than having a flavor contribution. As for the ramen, I liked the side and appetizer more, strange to say. The ramen portion is good for the fact that I just ate some rice and bread already. It came topped with nori, pork belly, and half an egg. When I tried the soup on its own, I only tasted salt for the most part, with only a hint of creaminess. There was sesame added already, but I had to add more to get any smoky flavor. Also, I highly recommend the offered Morimoto ramen pepper, as it will add flavor that I felt the soup did not have on its own, with virtually no spice. The noodles were nice and had a decent chew and thickness. The nori was good and I wished I saved some rice to eat it with, because it soaked in the broth. The bottom of the bowl was where there were bits of seaweed and shoots, I think. The bowl of ramen came with a plate of pickles, which was a nice touch. Last but not least, the pork belly was great. It was cut into a thin strip and folded on top of the bowl with some sauce, and provided the most flavor out of that entire bowl.Overall, Momosan has definitely satisfied my expectations, with the sides if not with their ramen. I highly recommend their lunch and I might be going back myself sometime.

2021-11-08Life is Short F……it up! Family, Flavor,FriendsStart it off with soft shell crab bao Which was very juicy very flavorful highly recommend. Then we got the Kalimantan bao melts in ur mouth. Got the karaage not oily flavorful. Then came the main course the Tonkotsu Ramen. Presentation was done well ingredients were fresh and done well. Noodle texture was what to expect. Maybe I was expecting too much for the broth which make or break the ramen. IMO it was just Ok , it tasted good but disappointed and lacked the wow factor. Maybe since they were open a few years they have gotten complacent. However if ur in the area to visit a iron chef restaurant I should check it out.
