Montebello in other cities:
Visited this restaurant as it was recommended by our hotel across the road. We didnt have a reservation, very accommodating. We had the buffalo mozzarella starter, my wife had spinach and ricotta pasta (I think?) I had lobster ravioli. The food was excellent, service really great. Staff very curtious but approachable. It was more expensive than the food we had previously had in New York, but was worth the price. Would recommend a visit and would visit again.
We tried this place as part of restaurant week -- so glad we did! The food was so good! The salmon was perfect and so was the chicken Montebello. The desserts (chocolate mousse cake and ricotta cheesecake) tasted homemade and its hard to not to love homemade desserts :)I really appreciated the staff and how accommodating they were to us and the other guests. We heard some really specific and strange requests (the seafood pasta served at exactly 10:12 please) and the staff nailed all the requests. Their wine recommendations were also perfect. My advice: make this a must try place.
Super, super expensive. Bought 3 drinks of Johnny Walker and it was 67 dollars! With tip, 75! It was 3 shots. $23 a shot? Way, way too much for any sane person to pay. Should be $12 Max. Didnt try the food, Im sure its great. Just be careful ordering anything and expect to lose an arm and leg. On the plus side, staff seemed nice.Edit: updated review to be more accurate. Especially since the owner reached out. I respect that!
The service at montebellos was fantastic. The waiters were quick for your order and food came out quickly. The food overall was good with dessert being the best part; tiramisu is a must. The gnocchi was a bit on the bland side and the veal was tough(per others who ordered) but they accommodated a vegan and the seafood was delicious. Overall would recommend this place.
Montebello is one of my favorite restaurants. My husband and I have been coming here for the past 8 years and we always leave happy. Everyone on the staff is super nice and very attentive. Our top dishes are the Pici pasta, pear salad, gazpacho soup, eggplant parmigian, chicken Montebello and the monk fish.I hosted my best friends bridal shower in the private room and it was amazing. We went with a buffet menu and passed hors doeuvres. Everyone raved about the food and the service was excellent. I highly recommend Montebello and always look forward to going back.
We arrived here on Valentines Day to a moderately crowded restaurant and were quickly seated by the friendly maitred. However, while we were picking a wine from the quite adequate list, we were presented with their special prix fixe menu for Valentines. We got the regular menu only after asking a second waiter. The food was quite good and the restaurant was comfortable, but the service was spotty. Try a different Italian in NYC.
Nice atmosphere, good foods but overprice and bad service. My fiance and I were looking for a nice Italian restaurant and found this place with many good reviews. So we booked through opentable. Everything was fine until I got my salmon dish. I asked for a med-rare but got med-well instead with half side burnt. I felt considerate to send it back as I knew it would be wasting time and food. We ordered a small side order of spaghetti. I was shocked when the bill came. They charged $ 18 for just a half portion!! Also, we chose cheesecake and chocolate mouse for desserts. We were disappointed when the cakes came with very thin slice and nothing special. I guess its better to order from regular menu as its not worth it to order from restaurant week prix fixe menu for $38 each.Nevertheless, our real bad experience came at the end when we saw they charged $6 for the soda. I ordered black label on the rocks with a side of soda. The drink itself is $16,expensive enough and the soda should be included. No other place will charge for the soda on the side. When we asked the server why he charged for the soda, he said because you ordered the soda. We said that wasnt right and it should be removed from the bill. He came back after swiped credit without correcting the price. We were so mad and talked to the manager when we left. Obviously he didnt know what was going on. The server should have asked him about the soda ,we would appreciate more. Never mind to pay for expensive place as long as their foods are good however the service should be more professional and attentive than this.
Would not be a trip to NYC without dinner here. They won us over 6 years ago when we visited from Florida and our 6 year old was sick. Well make the baby whatever she wants... who says that in New York? They are always welcoming, service is great and food is wonderful. Just visited for the fifth time and will be back.
Im giving them one star for service and another for location. The food was mediocre and disappointing. I ate much better Italian food at a much lower price many times before. Too bad. In NYC its hard to tell whether something is expensive because its actually good or because its in NYC...
Over cooked ravoli. Told waiter he didnt care, and charged 30 dollars for calamari appetizer claimed we ordered double portion same with Ceasars salad 30 dollars. If it was good I wouldnt complain but calamari deep fried tasted frozen. Salad was ok no think special. Overall average place.
Decent place to host a party. We booked a large room that was really fit for a party of 30 but we were only about 12. The food is good. We had a set meal with a few courses. For starters we had a salad and trio of pasta plate. The pasta plate had penne (tomato sauce, garlic, and Portobello mushrooms), seafood risotto, and bowtie pasta with pesto. The penne was al dente, the seafood risotto was very strong, and the bowtie pasta was ordinary. The penne and pesto pasta were the hits. I actually liked the risotto. It was very fresh with big pieces of shrimp. For our entrees we had a choice of chicken or veal. The chicken breast was parmesan encrusted in a white wine lemon sauce. The veal was thinly sliced with a white wine reduction, mushrooms and artichokes. It was the best dish of the night. It was soft and the gravy was a perfect compliment. If you ever come to Montebello, get the veal! The dishes are ample servings as well. Dessert was less memorable. We had a choice of cheesecake or chocolate mousse cake. Quite ordinary.

2022-03-17We spent two weeks in New York for my daughter s surgery. When we first ate at Montebello, we fell in love. The service by Fernando couldnt have been better or more efficient. The food; salad, spinach, pastas, and desserts were spectacular. we ate there three times and would be there frequently if we lived in New York. Every dish made was perfect. no complaints at all. The French martinis Fernando made were delicious. Joe, the owner, was gracious and kind and a pleasure to talk too. Ill miss this place, a lot...

2022-05-17Old school Italian joint serving the neighborhood clientele.was hardly busy for most of the time except for 3 tables.I heard a lady complaining to the waiter that her risotto was too saucy and was made with Bens rice instead of arborio riceThe fish her sister had didnt taste right. No wonder at eight oclock the place was not busling....the owner was not pleasant and very defensive about his fake risotto.

2019-12-27Great food, great location, excellent service. Authentic Italian dishes plus some creative nouveau twists, too. Very attentive management and staff. Very flexible to last minute changes in party size and adjusting individual dishes to personal tastes. Excellent wine list. Excellent value for the price.

2018-09-15We visited over Labor Day weekend and were very impressed! There was no wait, the service was exceptional, the food was brought out in a timely manner and was delicious, and the ambience was perfect. We especially enjoyed the bread and dip appetizer (complementary), which was bruschetta with olive oil in it... It was so good!! The pizza was as good as the pizza my sister had in Italy, according to her. My infant son was with us and the server brought out toys for him to play with. All around an excellent family-owned eatery that I would highly recommend.
