Great New York State Park that offers much for everyone! Miles of hiking trails available with good views. Nice lake to paddle in or fish in. Fishing offers chances to catch rainbow trout, bass, pickerel, perch, or panfish. Much wildlife to enjoy. Swimming available at the beach. Campsites aplenty and cabins available by reservation. You can definitely visit for a few hours or make a week or more of it, with so much to enjoy.Sometimes, on weekends the park gets crowded. Be sure to come early to avoid being shutout, especially in the summer.
Arrive early on good weather days. Bringing kayaks and the like? Get a perfect parking spot early right at the launch. Staff is friendly and helpful. Water stewards are friendly and informative promoting invasive species education. Avoid the crowds at the main beach and head to the area just past the bridge. Look for the old log there.
Had a great time beautiful part beautiful Lake minimal in any mosquitoes or any type of bugs is a great place to bring your fur babies your grandbabies and children had a wonderful time employees there were very helpful and friendly Park was very very clean I cannot wait to go back the rowboat and kayak are at a very reasonable price and the lake its quite big and the scenery is just beautiful Im very happy I went the day I did. I believe theres a indoor Nature Center for the children theres camping theres so much things to do there swimming just about the trails beautiful playgrounds that are safe for the children it overall it is the perfect teach and park
We walked around the lake and crossed over the foot bridge and back to the front gate. It was a gorgeous day for getting some exercise walking in. And the park was a perfect place for it.plus we ventured into the wild life display building too. Awesome exhibit.I want to add to this that without sitting on any logs or anything and staying mostly on asphalt road and Sandy Beach that I picked up ticks there. I havent had ticks on me and years. The infestation there is ridiculously high in my opinion and one should not venture in that area without having a good repellent sprayed on them.
We always have a beautiful time in this state park. The rangers are friendly and informative. Trails are well marked and typically well kept. These pictures are from opposite sides of the lake while walking the teal marked trail, named Lakeside on the maps throughout the park. Be sure to get an updated map at the ranger station as they sometimes have changes.
Horrible camping experience this time. All camp grounds are full of spongy moth. Can’t even stand or sit on your own chair, those bugs are crawling over body. They are falling on food too. We had two days of bookings but we couldn’t stay there. We returned back to home. They must put this information on websites when people do the bookings .. restrooms and day use area is good and clean.
Here weekly and I am a big fan of how quiet it is especially since no motorized watercrafts are allowed. Good for a hike, swim or paddle but you need to have your cardio to bike as the trails are geared towards hiking. Typically good luck fishing for bass, pickerel, and pan fish but others have had luck with trout as well.
Moreau is exceptional! I’ve gone in the summer to swim at least once a year since I was a child. They’ve got a little shop with food and beach things for good prices. There’s also a playground that big enough for at least 20/30 kids.Recently I went on a hike in winter. I haven’t been on a summertime hike since I was a child, but I knew the basic layout and that the trail was going to be easy. Taking this hike in winter was stunning. The group was huge and a little unorganized, but it felt safe and the volunteers knew where they were going. The park is clean (I’ve never seen trash/litter outside of the crowded beach) and taken care of. There’s a little warming hut for winter hikes where you can warm up, and sometimes there’s hot chocolate and snacks.I’d 100% recommend coming here at least once to anyone living in a one hour radius of the park. If you like anything outdoorsy, come here. It’s a great place to go for kids, families, and just people who like hiking, swimming, or camping.
We camped here with some friends and had a great time. The campsite was clean and spacious. The bathrooms were directly across from us and kept very clean! We did some hiking around the grounds, which was also really nice. My only complaint is a 10 AM checkout, I would have liked more of a noon checkout.
Great spot for camping for the family. Staff was really nice, and they have one of the better deals on firewood compared to other state sites. I spent 8 days here, and half of the time my loop was sparsely populated. Even when it filled up the camp sites were far enough away I didnt feel boxed in like a few other campgrounds close by. The trails were great for the whole family to enjoy. The shower and bathroom facilities are well above average and are cleaned multiple times daily. The beach is on the smallish side, and can get cramped on the weekends, but it has a great beach store and shower facility. I rented a boat to take the kids out on, and while the lake was small, its appropriate for no motor boating. I will book again next year.
Beautiful park! Moreau Lake State Parks lake lies amid hardwood forests, pine stands, and rocky ridges. Shady groves of trees shelter picnic grounds and a pavilion overlooking the lake. Wooded campgrounds are quiet and secluded, offering facilities for group campers, as well as tent and trailer sites. Two pavilions, each with a 120-person capacity and a 20x30 tent which can accommodate up to 75 people, may be reserved on a daily basis. The sandy beach, nature, hiking and cross-country ski trails, opportunities for boating, fishing and ice fishing, and proximity to the Saratoga Springs and Lake George areas make the park attractive to visitors. In the summer, beach lounges, beach umbrella, and fishing gear can be rented. In the winter, snowshoes are available for rent daily.
Its pretty. Its an easy hike through the forest. Several trails. Not a lot of variety in landscape, but the insects, snakes, birds, chipmunks and foliage are worthy of the best of cameras. Lake Bonita is, as its name promises, pretty. Pack a picnic, find a vista, enjoy your hike.
Did not get to experience this as much I liked to due to a sudden impending storm. However, it’s got a lot to offer if you’re an outdoor enthusiast. There are numerous hiking trails which are also utilized for biking and xc skiing. There is a nice sized lake to kayak, SUP, or swimming, and cordoned fishing areas as well. It is dog friendly, and my dog loved it and I hope we get the chance to revisit!
This is an all-season natural treasure! Ice fish in the winter, kayak in the summer. Rent rustic cabins on the lake any time of year and snow shoe through the woods! The beach is well-maintained and beautiful, though it gets crowded on summer weekends. Theres a fee to visit, though the location accepts the NY Empire State pass which will get you in for free. The nature center is homey and has some small creatures to visit with as well as some large stuffed beasts. The staff is friendly and informative and often have hikes or crafts available -- check the website for details!
Had a terrible camping experience with two park employees 5/19 - 5/22. 5/19 Friday night had difficult time with tent and tatooed employee Brandon threatened to call the cops on me for making noise. Had confirmation Saturday with campers nearby I was quiet. Went to office Saturday night to report him. Lady said should have brought it up in the morning looked at her with cross eyes seeing Im talking about a difficult employee that tried get me kicked out for no legitimate reason. I went up to the office to apologize if I sounded like I was angry. Office lady looked down at her desk with blinds closed and wouldnt bother listen to apology. Next thing had cops arrive saying I harassed her. Told cops last visit was an apology to the office and they acted confused. I had another encounter with same tatooed Brandon Saturday night arriving with cops where I was confused. Cops were confused also about tatooed Brandon also. Brandon left. Cops thought it was unnecessary to be at my site. Im reporting my problem with management in Monday about two problematic employees I had encounters with. I hope this gets resolved seeing it is a great place to go camping.
One of the best campgrounds in the state. Tons of trails, gorgeous lake, private sites, bathrooms and wildlife at every turn. I reccomend everyone come here at least once.My father and grandfather used to take me to Moreau as a kid every summer. I continue this tradition by bringing my son and father every year for a week long camping trip, something we all look forward to at the beginning of summer. It is impossible for you to be bored here. If you are bored then youre camping all wrong.I have walked almost every trail, some are short and some will take you all day (bring food and water!), it would be worth it to buy a trail map as I have gotten lost before and spent hours trying to get back. There are playgrounds for kids, as well as the famous moreau beach which the kids absolutely adore. You can rent a kayak or canoe and enjoy a beautiful day on the water. One of the trails will take you to a summit overlooking the lake, as well as hundreds of mountains in all directions, including several from Vermont. It is a breathtaking site that I cherish each time I complete the exhausting trip up the mountain. The trails will show you a plethora of plant and animal life. During early summer there are red salamanders everywhere. Be mindful of where you step!
This is a great place to hike, boat, and spend time with friends and family. I would recommend checking the trail maps before starting out as there are many great options. The outlook at the end of the blue trail is amazing but the steep ascent right before the outlook can be treacherous. There are also lots of mosquitoes up there.
Such a truly beautiful place. It has great service(car from site to site) roads. A nice playground. A lake. New and clean bath houses. Really a grade A Campground. Most sites are smaller for big campers. Small to medium should be fine. And no worries with most any size of tent. Also there is okay yet reliable cell service in entire park.
Moreau Lake State Park is a great place to take your kids and loved ones. The people that work there and help run the park are fabulous people. They will take care of you if you need any help. The lake is great there is a beach where you can lounge and swim from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. you can also went kayaks (double and/or single), row boat, ex. The lake is a great fishing lake that you can catch large mouth bass, small mouth bass, pickerel, catfish, pumpkin seed, and trout out of. The pumpkin seed/ sunfish are huge and make for a great meal of you have a few of them!! Overrall my experience was a great one!
A beautiful state park about 25 minutes from lake george and 15 minutes from Saratoga springs. We camped there in the month of July. I particularly like the location of tent sites. Each site is very spacious, secluded from other sites, proximity to washrooms and surrounded with trees. One good thing was that there were no tree shade over the tent due to which there were less insects on and near the tent
****cut to 2022****sites are clean but tons of spongy moth caterpillars. We couldnt stay long enough :(****Below is from 2021*****Camped there in June this year, on alternate weekends..stayed in loop B and F. The bathrooms are very very neat and cleaned and well maintained..the showers are free and toilets are spacious. Fire pits , no grill on site, are cleaned by staff daily. Firewood is very cheap (Price and quantity wise)..Rangers are prompt and take rounds in the night...we had one problem in loop B sites , due to screeching owls..they kept us up whole night till 4 am :(...loop F was good, no animal sounds in the night..trails are well marked, we took the easy one as we had small children with us..a fun , neat and great place.. BIG Thumps up!!!
I Love My Park Day at Moreau Lake- over 130 volunteers working on projects: Repairing and staining benches, removing invasives, prepping and planting gardens, lake cleanup and playground mulching.. Two boyscout troops #24 and 99 building boat racks and lending library kiosks both an option with grant funding from PTNY EPF money and Stewarts Holiday Match funds. Thank you Friends of MLSP for all the work you put into making this such an organized fun day!
Havent been here in years but this week so far has been breathtaking, all those walking and biking trails, play grounds for the kids, nice beach and great fishing. Overall, great family campground, very friendly front desk, new/very clean bathrooms and the site is wooded/private. Upgrade a few sites with electric and water hook ups and Ill leave a better rating. Otherwise a four is all you get!
We recently camped at Moreau lake state park overnight. Very kid friendly with a few different playgrounds! Nice spacious tent sites, we easily fit 2 decent sized tents on the cleared area with room to spare. The beach was quite clean and the lifeguards seemed attentive. I saw a handful of ducks near the swimming area which gave me pause due to swimmers itch, but we had no issues. Bathrooms were all cleaned and stocked. They dont make it very clear on their own website or the booking website that they dont offer electrical at the sites, however they do have water every few sites. 4 stars instead of 5 due to the fact that there is no one around to enforce the speed limit, I saw quite a few cars speeding around and there are some blind corners. If youre walking on the paved roads, walk as far to the side as possible! Overall we enjoyed our visit, and would have extended our stay if it had not rained, we will be back!
After a visit to the Lake George area that included a long hike, my husband and I decided to visit this state park for an easy walk and a picnic lunch. What a beautiful spot! So beautiful at this time of year. We enjoyed the nature walk. We are lucky to have so many lovely state parks in New York.
Rolled the dice on July 3rd (Weds) Arrived at noon. $8 for the carload (both of us) and the was still ample parking.Crowded beachfront by still plenty of places to stake out.Clean beach. Clean water. Tepid water temp.Snack bar a bit slow with 2 older gentlemen working it and in no need to step up their game. Asked to cut my grilled chicken wrap in half. Ol boy on the register proceeds to get a knife and grab my wrap by his ungloved, money taking hand and cut it. Yikes. I passed on it.Hiked the higher peak in the rear of the parking lot. Followed the blue signage to the top of observer and the didnt disappoint. Its not a novice hike by any means. Steep vertical and craggy in some areas in the ascent.Overall, a pleasant first visit during a major holiday. If you pokey, theres several poke stops and two gyms on the property.Plenty of rental equipment from chairs and umbrellas to kayaks and canoes. Plenty of interests besides the beach and bbqing. Theres a small but interesting nature exhibit as well as being patrolled by staff and state park police.
Ive been coming to this park since a young child for camping trips and swimming. Now I live very close and visit frequently. Even still camp for the nostalgia. The restroom renovations are amazing. They are beautiful. This park and the cleanest lake ( no motorized boats) imaginable is amazing. Good Hiking, views, tons of sites. I love this place
Camped here in the A loop for my first visit (October 21) to this SP. Sites are large and level in this loop which seems to be the case in the other loops which I scouted. Great bathhouse with modern plumbing and free showers. Firewood is a good value. I didnt have a chance to hike the Backcountry. Likely busy in season.
Was not given a map or directions to our campsite when I checked in. The main road to and from the campsites is very narrow, and there is no way two large RVs could pass each other. The actual campsite sufficient for our RV site, number 049, but the electricity was turned off. Very infuriating since we paid for it. In fact, since we booked online ahead of time, we had to pay for two nights even though we only needed one night. I do not recommend this State Park to anyone for camping.
Its a beautiful State Park.We are staying at the Campground Cottage which is cute and has all the basics but its very small, 3 separated rooms, one bedroom, a tiny living room with a sofa bed and the kitchen with a round table and 3 chairs. The bathroom is pretty nice. Its charming and we are having a great time. The park is too close to the highway so we can hear some traffic.
Be prepared for a sandy adventure. Also, if your near the group camp sites, be prepared for lots of noise, until 3 or 4 AM. The kids slept just fine but my wife and I had called the rangers, park police and even state police several times with no real results. Its a shame that some people dont care about peaceful enjoyment for others. Overall, the site was nice and well maintained, the kids had fun at the lake beach and that is really all that matters at the end of the day.
When we made our reservation and signed in we were never told where to place our tent! We place our tent partially in the woods to have a softer area to sleep! After 6 hours we were told we had to move our tent! So we decided to leave to go to another lake we were told about! We were told they will not refund our money for two days! They said it stated on the receipt you cant set your tent up in the woods! In our case partially in the woods! We put on tent on wet leaves not on trees! Here is a picture of what the rules are nowhere does it say you cant set the tent up Im the woods like the manager said!Update after calling to see about getting a refund because we felt dissatisfied! They said they are not giving a refund due to not following the rules! We did not get kicked out of the park we left on our own accord! So be careful if you dont like the environment or the stay you will have to stay anyways or lose your money! They are a company if a customer is not satisfied for any reason they are due a refund!
Such a wonderful family place to go. I really enjoy how they have it laid out. The playground near the beach area, but the beautiful paths a bit off. Paths are nicely cleared. People were keeping their distance and still very polite. The fish werent biting, but the beautiful day kept the smiles on. And for the seniors, no cost to get in during the week days.
This park is terrible. I go camping. A lot. The sites at this place are tiny theyre almost always on a Hill they clame to be wheelchair accessible and handicap accessible yet none of the bathrooms are accessible in a wheel chair. The office people were useless the only person who knew anything about anything was the park ranger. The Lake was more of a pond then a Lake and its contaminated right now with some kind of parasite on top of everything and invasive species of Caterpillar was running ramp it Im talking tens of thousands of them. I will never go here again.
This park is fantastic for families with small children. Ive been going here for decades, and now that I have my own toddler, I can truly appreciate the value of this hidden gem. Its a great place that stays open through the season, light crowds during the week, heavy crowds on weekends. Ample picnic tables and charcoal grills, a wide and deep beach, shallow waters, several playgrounds to cover a variety of age groups, nice hiking trails, fishing, beach volleyball nets, and a wonderful nature center guided by passionate rangers. We always enjoy our time here!
Nice but people drive too fast on the roadways and the speed limit is not enforced. The hiking trail markers are terrible. They practically make a person get lot. A simple sign or two would help immensely, like trail back to beach. You cant tell what the markers mean when suddenly theres a diff color or a strange color, like hot pink. Be careful hiking, they need to clear this matter up.
This is a nice park with a nice beach. Cool thing is off to the side of the beach you can walk about 40 yards out an still be ankle deep in water on the sand bar and then 5 over you can be in 5 of water. Good place to kayak. There are cabins to rent and camp sites. Had a great time hanging out at the beach.
Ive been coming here for years. Moreau State Park is one of the if not the best State Parks that Ive visited. The Park is quiet with beautiful camp sites spaced perfectly apart. The public bathrooms are the cleanest ever. The staff is professional, courtesy and friendly. The beach is very nice and spacious. I would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a wonderful camping experience.
Very cool place! Nice campsites w/ (AWESOME & CLEAN) bathrooms. Picnic table & firepits were nice, lots of birds and wildlife. Lake side area is perfect for picnics & has a few playgrounds. Lake is very peaceful and great for putting your feet in. Lots of trails too! Ranging from peaceful nature walk to mountain climb. We had a great time climbing to the summit! Bit of a workout!
Ample parking with the current capacity rule of 50%. Plenty of space to stretch out and social distance on the beach. The sand is blistering hot, and finding shade on the beach can be difficult. The medical facilities have been difficult to deal with previously only really able to give out Band-Aids.There are quite a few picnic tables available with grills nearby for use by the public. The water is shallow and very warm, if you are tall you will most likely only be at waist height at the far end of the buoy section for swimming.Current price is $8 a car load for day use. Well worth the cost.
Very nice place to camp at! We had an excellent time! It was nice! & quiet! The woods surrounding our site was spectacular! The site for our RV was spacious! The camp firepit was very well built! (All cement & blocks on three sides!). We would highly recommend this campsite to stay at!
Love this place. Super chill for the whole family everyone seemed to follow rules with the 10ft apart and mask in bathroom. $8 for the day and you can leave and come back as long as you have your ticket. If you want bbq grill and picnic table you better get there as soon as it opens!
We absolutely love Moreau State park! Free to enter between labor day and memorial day, and very reasonable prices otherwise. The staff is amazingly helpful. Campsites and bathrooms/showers are always spotless. The lake is beautiful. Swim area is always neat and tidy every single morning. The nature center and multiple playgrounds are always a great entertainment for the kids. The trails are beautifully maintained. We even helped plant flowers in the beds around the bathhouses for the turtles to eat, and filled 4 Little Libraries with books around the lake for I Love My Park Day 2019!
Glad I didnt go swimming...my family members werent even warned . Until I had notice a flimsy sign amongst the crowd. To the point there were parasites in the water and caused a terrible infamation. The rest of the place was fine but counter measures should of been place for the swimming part.
A beautiful state park with a great beach area! The water is clear, the bathrooms are clean and the snack shop has decent prices. Lots of picnic tables in the shade. There are boats, kayaks and paddle boards to rent. The Nature museum is an extra touch. We have visited several times and we always have an enjoyable time.
Great place for a family picnic. Every year for the last 6 years my husband and I, and his family have gone here for the fourth of July. We get there at 8 am when they open. Decent prices and a beautiful place to get away from the city. Its peaceful and pretty. You can read, swim, cook, go for walks, etc. I recommend this place for holidays with the spring, summer and fall. Weve actually had the same exact spot every single yesterday when we go. Refreshing and breathtaking.
Really nice. Theres canoes that visitors can enjoy and they even have a nurse and lifeguard on duty. Theres plenty of grills and benches for parties as well. The only small nuisance is that there are no garbage cans around so you need to bring your own and take it with you. Other than that, its a good time!
This is a great park in all seasons. The picnic area is HUGE and has plenty of tables and grills. There are three sets of playground equipment, all in good condition. The bathrooms are in decent shape. The lake is beautiful to hike around, and there are many other trails in the park. The beach is gigantic. The lifeguard staff seem a little overzealous in their rule enforcement, but I suspect it is because of insurance requirements more than anything. All in all a lovely and very convenient (right off of the Northway) state park.
We rented the Pine Tree cabin and our relatives rented the Deer Cabin for a week in July 2018 and had a great time. The cabins made it easier to camp with 4 small kids and accommodate other guests that came and went throughout the week. The playground and hiking trails were close by as were the showers and bathrooms. The cabins are in great shape and appear to be well taken care of. The bathrooms and shower were pretty clean by campsite standards. Also, we had fun canoeing on the lake and swimming at the beach. We would definitely go back. Also worthy of note, we saw number skunks each night. They got closer than anticipated but never caused a problem.
This is one of the best state parks in NY I have ever been to. The good thing about it is that you can swim and have barbecue at the same place. The place has a lot of facilities (restrooms, showers, small deli grocery shop, rental place for life jackets and boats). A good place for family to swim and enjoy a nice barbecue.
This park surprised me. The hike up to the scenic overloook was better than I expected for the southern edge of the Adirondacks. Highly recommend. We plan to go back and explore the lower elevations around the lake. We went on July 4th and the flies were pretty annoying but not overwhelmingly so.
This visit is awesome, fun and adventurous. We rented one of the cabins for the weekend. The cabin and the walls were as cold as Antarctica until 3 hours later with the help of the wood stove our breathes were no longer visible. Hey its winter and were ready to do it again no problem. Once the cabin was warm it was easy to maintain a habitable environment that didnt necessitate multiple layers for cold weather survival. The wood stove also proved competent to maintain hot coals for hours while we were enjoying the beauty of the park hills and lakes. One commendation is to have a pair of crampons for navigating the icy trails. I also have to mention the awesome park personnel, second to none. They were all very helpful and very, very pleasant. We live only 15 minutes from here and cant wait to come back. We highly recommend the park, but forget about the Bear cabin its all ours.Bev and Bill
As youre entering this park they have a weird system to get you checked in. First booth directs you to a parking lot, to park your vehicle and check in.× which is where youll be introduced to Jennifer×Jennifer in the office is very unfriendly, unprofessional, unorganized and will have you go to your car 8 times for paperwork. Also she had a short temper which you made it very frustrating to deal with her.Even after being told you couldnt check in yet. Another incident is we got here a little early and we asked if we could check into our site we were told no. But we could hang out at the beach. Even though they dont allow dogs we decided to drive around the campground which is where we drove by our empty campsite that was perfectly clean. We did ask Jennifer if we could go into the site since it was cleani and empty and we were told no so we decided to go into Lake George for the afternoon. So basically when we got to Lake George we got a call from Jennifer stating we were allowed to go into our campsite after all🤯. And it wasnt even being told that we couldnt go to the campsite that was the problem it was the attitude that we received with it from her and the attendance working here. This will probably be the first and only time I will ever come to this Campground. I typically go to Old Forge area and everybody is professional organized and very polite .I havent even been in there Campground for 5 minutes and I would never ever come back.Furthermore, the toilets dont flush very well which means not everything goes down. Past the bathroom stalls do not have locks on them.Another item to keep in mind is the water is cold a lot of the time we had to drive around the campground away from our site just to try to find a lukewarm shower. Imagine taking a shower well youre at the beach rinsing your feet off thats how these two showers are designed very poorly. So basically you have to hit the button every 10 Seconds. And lets not forget about their policy about dog barking. For the last text hours Ive heard nothing but the same three dogs bark over and over again yet they have not been removed like the document we signed stated. Plus its getting ridiculous that its not stop..
This is the best maintained NY STATE camp ground I have seen. Black top roads, new bathrooms. They clean the sites as people leave. There are cabins for rent. Just an awesome 4 days !! Nice lake for canoes or kayaking. ..no motor boats !! Lots of hiking trails. AAA+++ !!!
Beautiful state park, just off the interstate. Campsites are big and private. No services on the sites, but there is water anailable. The park is pack in, pack out, so there are no trash containers, except at the ranger station. That system seems to work, as the park is very clean. There is a nice lake and easy trails around it. Great place to bring kids. Lots of picnic tables scattered around.
One of the best NY State Parks there is! Awesome trails, large and private campsites, excellent cabins, great trails, nice waterfront, really diverse forest, hills, and flats, and they keep adding more property. Paddling and wilderness camping available on the Hudson, awesome views from the high sections...even playgrounds for the kids. This park has it all!
I’ve been going to Moreau since I was in middle school, and I am 36 years old with my own children now. Sadly, today was my last day bringing my boys here. My youngest has had his birthday here every year as well- never again. It used to be a beautiful, clean, well maintained place. Not any longer. Rules as far as cleanliness, sanitation, safety, environmental rules, and just plain respect and consideration are a thing of the past. It got to the point that you could no longer even park and they were still letting people in- it was completely over run and out of control. People were swimming wherever they wanted- including in front of the boat launch area on the beach end of the lake. Children swimming everywhere- adults the same- no one watching their kids. You could not get boats or kayaks in or out of the lake and it was very unsafe. Lifeguards are also completely careless about where children and people are swimming. I think they’ve just given up since most people are ignorant and disrespectful choosing to swim anywhere and everywhere they want- they see the many signs stating otherwise.Carry in- carry out is clearly a thing of the past. There was trash everywhere by mid day- end of day was awful. Utensils, cans, random garbage, dirty DIAPERS- and the bathrooms were disgusting. Obviously they’ve just given up as far as enforcing this rule against rude, disrespectful slobs as well.It was just completely out of hand on so many levels- and very sad. Unfortunately I must say Moreau May be losing it’s decent, respectful, considerate, clientele in order to gain the complete opposite. I will NEVER go here again, and the only reason I rate it a 2 is because of what it USED TO BE and what it still should be. How awful. I no longer suggest this place to anyone.
Great place for scenic views, kids, families, bbqing and picnics. There are a dozen picnic tables all smartly located under shady trees next to the sandy soft beach. Each table has its own easy to use but somewhat small grill, perfect for a dozen hotdogs and 4-6 hamburgers or two packages of ribs. There is no shade on the beach but the nice warm water that you can wade in, will call you into it anyways sooner than later. The swimming area has a mens and womens bathrooms with soap and water. Theres a spot for rinsing off sand on the way to the parking lot. The swimming area is sectioned off into 2 or 3 parts with a life guard for each. You absolutely can swim anywhere else, paddle board, row your kayak or boat, and fish outside of the marked booey areas. It is shallow for many many many feet and a very relaxing place to spend a summer day.
Between the lake constantly being unsuitable for swimming due to the amount of fecal matter in it, to the fact that they nickle and dime everyone who comes in, this place has changed over the years. I grew up at this lake every summer for as long as I can remember. Its a great place for tourists now, absolutely garbage for those that have been this places bread and butter for so long. Moreau lake state park will never get a penny from me again.
Moreau Lake is a gem of a State Park, a stones throw from Saratoga Springs. It boasts a great beach, kayak rentals, ample hiking trails (with a an additional 131 acres added just today). Camping for tents and RVs are also available and theyve also added a number of cabins to the park for those who want some creature comforts. The Nature center and its staff are exceptional and will give you the low down through displays and exhibits of the various creatures that make Moreau Lake State Park their home. Very grateful to have this park near by. You should swing by some time and get in touch with your natural side.
Moreau Lake isnt gigantic, but the park around it is large and well-groomed. Theres a Park Ranger for security; restrooms; marked swimming areas with a sand beach; a trail around the lake; a pavilion, a nature building, and a concession stand/store; a nice NYS Trooper who regularly drops by to make his presence known; and two (2) Pokemon Gyms and more Poke-Stops on top of that. Parking is $8.00 for day parking (not sure about campers), so consider carpooling.
Great state park with camping, hiking, mountain biking and swimming. The sand beach is nice and there are many picnic tables. The mountain biking trails are very difficult with a lot of climbing. Trailer maps are available at the park entrance. The trail intersections are marked pretty well, but dont go out on the trails without a map because it is very easy to get lost.
A treasure. Great for kayaking, the beach, and enjoying nature. Glad to see the snack bar back to the former owner. Clean bathrooms. Two concerns this year: no one is enforcing swimming only where are there are lifeguards, and unleashed dogs are everywhere. The first issue results in every sandy area becoming, essentially,a private beach. The second results in dogs making messes and becoming aggressive. Both can have dangerous consequences. Please go back to applying rules and keeping people and pets safe..... Before something happens.
The park is not patrolled in the evening/night. A site next to us had a karaoke machine, screaming kids and loud drunks that carried on over an hour past quite time. We attempted to ask them to quiet down ourselves and keep their children on their own site but we dont speak French and couldnt politely get the point across. We reported the issue and the park advised that they would have someone come out we have an available person which never happened. Out of a 9 day trip we had 2 peaceful nights. During the days we had kids from other sites just walking into ours like the belonged there and had to be told to leave. I was afraid to leave the sites unattended and couldnt join the rest of the family for fishing or going to the beach. Waste of money and vacation time.
Good distance between camp sites. Loop A you can hear the north way but the rest of the loops its a little bit more muffled. Batrhoom/shower facilities are top notch. Only thing over many other NY state camp grounds is the fire places dont have greats so bring your own. Other then that plenty to do for the kids and the fishing if you know what you are doing can be exceptional.
Moreau was ok. They sign says the gate to the lake closes at 8:30. We where going down to pick up our kayaks and they locked the gate at 8: 05. If you are going to lock the gate at 805 change the dam sign. They do not have non potable water next to the dump station so you cannot rinse your black tank or use your spray ball. NOT GOOD.
Clean facility. Beach was small but it is well kept. You can rent camp sites if you want, or pavilions or even cabins. Or while using the beach theres a concession stand with snacks, some fried foods, drinks and ice cream. It is carry in and carry out, so being two empty bags: one for bottles and cans and one for trash and youre good to go!!
I spent a week here, in the fall, right after the season ended. I stayed at sunset cabin and had a wonderful experience. The view on the lake is lovely. Lots of Canada geese, mallards, herons and there was a bald eagle too. The trails were marked but take a map. Some of the trails cross over one another so with a map, I was able to link multiple trails together.Persons who decide to stay at the sunset cabin should note the following: Even though the website says there is a microwave- there is not. Also, there is no heat source in the cabin so if you go in early spring or fall and the nights are chilly bring your own heater. You really do have to walk youor stuff down a hill to the cabin. I posted an image on Google with a caption that indicate the HILL that you have to walk up/down. Also, as I went after the season ended, people thought the cabin was vacant and would frequently come on to the porch.

2022-06-01Do not go for a picnic, super buggy, dirty old picnic tables. We got attacked by flying caterpillars most of the day. Gross. Lake looks like swampy was there, lol. Needs work, prob because vacant from Covid. Go to the beach area, open and nice and clean.

2022-06-27$8 Entrance fee. Decent size lake; not too big. No motor boats. Water seemed clean. Not full of weeds. Beach was full, but pleasant. Lifeguards were a little bullhorn happy.

2021-09-19Camped here for the weekend. Basic, no frills campground was very quiet (except for one group, but theres always one!). Sites were wooded and very spaced out from each other. The wood we bought at the office was so wet and green it would not burn so buyer beware. Bathrooms were very new and fairly clean. It seemed they were cleaned daily, but could use an overall scrubbing (e.g., stall doors were a bit grungy, a lot of spider webs throughout). Hiked 8+ miles all through the park. Trails were mostly through the woods with a couple overlooks including: Moreau Lake, the Hudson River, and the Adirondacks.

2021-09-24The staff are amazing and the park is very clean. Great swimming and paddling lake with no motors allowed on it. 146 camping sites with 7 cottages and 2 cabins to rent! Over 40+ miles of hiking trails for all abilities. Just a gorgeous park all around.

2021-10-14Awesomely beautiful state park! Carry in & carry out that most people respect. However this past weekend there were several large dogs running loose on the beach, no staff anywhere around.

2022-02-12Love Moreau! Theres always something to do, that doesnt involve tons off ppl. The beach is the only thing that tends to get crowded. But theres plenty of space for kayaking, fishing, and hiking! Plus... Well, camping!

2022-05-11Beautiful park! The lake has a beach area. During the operating season you can rent row boats. Also they have boat permits but they go quick! The habitat on the trails is very well established. I managed to see orioles, a bald eagle, loons and more. Theres also a playground area with three metal structures (ages 2-10). Theres pavilions and picnic tables throughout the park. I believe they have concession during the peak season as well.

2022-07-01Nice lake to bring the family too. Very clean and not to crowded. Carry in and carry out park. Only problem I had was there was metal hooks in the sand probably left behind from someone else earlier that day but not the parks fault. Lifeguards did a great job keeping the kayaks away from the swimmers. Lovely place to just go and relax on the beach.

2021-06-15Really nice staff, great park to have fun in and kayak or hike (or both). Sites are very nice and also very large. Our site was a corner site and we had utmost privacy. Ice and firewood are also very reasonably priced. What a great camping trip, I will be back soon.
