Morning Glory in other cities:
I usually go here to buy my school supplies or when I run out of ink but tbh I go in there and it’s so pricey so I’m always careful on what I buy but I do feel uncomfortable sometimes with staff following you around and it makes it feel crowded because they are always watching and following but besides that they have good items and even toys and bags and plushies but still pretty pricey
I grew up in Flushing during the late 70s to mid 80s. One of my favorite memories of walking down Roosevelt Ave was stopping at the Hallmark store and being mesmerized by the Sanrio section up front. All those delicately scented erasers, Hello Kitty pencils, diaries with lock and key, pencil cases... Most of the stores and eateries I remember are gone now. Morning Glory gives me a bit of that nostalgic feeling while satisfying me with Kawaii eye candy. While I love almost everything, theyre quite pricey. If youre an stationary junkie like me, you might not notice that there ARE stationary supplies and writing pads all the way in the back tucked into a corner. They have a decent selection of adorable writing pads for about $6 each. It might have been a good thing that they didnt carry many Hello Kitty x Tokidoki items lol I did buy their last mug and a notebook (and a few writing pads). Id give 5 stars if they shelved items at cheaper price points.
I read a lot of comments about racial profiling and I think the store should be mindful of that. In my experience they seem to keep a close eye on everyone that comes in, however over the years they’ve definitely relaxed. It used to be that as soon as I had something in my hand I’d get pressure to put it into a basket, but they definitely give you space now. I appreciate them laying back, I can respect the fact that they don’t want people to steal but encourage them to be mindful about how racial profiling is an issue and there’s no way for new customers to know they do that to EVERYONE. You should aim to make your customers feel comfortable and welcome, or else you’d be losing just as much money from customers you scare away. Items are sometimes over priced but I can often find items here that have sold out on Sanrio.com! Good selection of stuff.
They racially profiled my friend and I. We felt very uncomfortable as the staff stared and followed us around the store. We did not feel welcomed and if you want customers to come in you should at least do that much. We cannot control our skin color so please do not treat us that way.
Such a neat place filled with not only cute items but, practical items as well. (Bags, pencils, toothbrush cases, clocks, luggage, etc) The place is located where the main language is Chinese but, the employees tried their best to communicate with me which I deeply appreciate.
I would never come here again. As soon as I came in I felt out of place. I think they thought I would steal. They didn’t even ask me if I needed help. There is a store that it’s In k town Manhattan. It is not morning glory but they have a ton of cute Korean things. From the reviews I see they are mean to their costumers.
Brought my daughter there to look around and find cute stuff for back to school. The selection was nice and the store was organized and well kept. There were sales people along the isles and they did not hover nor did they offer any assistance. The workers here are not friendly. The prices where pricey but that seems to be the m.o. for these types of stores. All in all its a fun and cute store to browse in.
I wont be back. My daughter and I were followed around the store as we looked to purchase a secret Santa gift for one of her classmates that frequents this store. This area predominantly Asian, and I believe that we were targeted due to what we look like. There were other customers in the store at the same time, and none were followed like my daughter and I. I purchased my things anyway, but I will never return to this location. Its a shame my daughter had to experience this, but this is the world that we live in.
Always love coming in here to check out the latest Pusheen merch. Not always fully stocked but when they are its heaven. I just got a giant fluffy one and a small one that also serves as a screen cleaner. Also be sure to check out the fun pens and pencils. The Asian girl in me is LIVING in morning glory.
It’s a nice place to shop. Prices are fair but with high quality items! Although, the only thing I don’t like about this shop is that the workers always stare and follow me which makes it so awkward for me to shop. I feel like shopping is like your “own” thing. It’s just awkward when someone stares at you while shopping. Atleast they can get cameras?
I went here two times. On the second time, I wanted to purchase a pen that was really fine point. A helper who works there was very helpful on the idea what I wanted and found one! Very friendly and helpful and very cute store. I love it so i thank you :D I hope to come back again!!! :DDDDD
Adorable little Korean store that sells very cute Asian themed products such as bags, stuffed animals, umbrellas, contact lenses, makeup, lunchboxes, and stationary. With all the cuteness and cartoon prints (well featured are Hello Kitty, Totoro, and various other cartoon animals from Asia), it is obvious that this store targets children and teens. I visit the shop mostly to buy stationary. They have a nice selection of unique pens and pencils, mostly store-brand. Funny enough, I found replicas of the Pentel P200s there. Quality can be iffy, but they let you try them out so you know what you get.I am taking a star off for it being often a bit pricey without the adequate substance to back it up, not unlike most stores of its category. The prices are not significantly above market price here, but having visited China and seen how much they cost there, Id say the profit margin is generous. There is a store across the street called Banzai that is similar in theme. They sell around the same things, though Banzai has a smaller selection.Something to note is that they employ an unnecessary amount of good-looking young men and women to guard the shop. While they are very courteous, they watched me a LOT the first time I went there. My friend and I found it very intimidating being watched and surrounded by good looking people. They all dressed up to emulate Asian idols, so we felt like the ugly ducklings and left without doing much browsing. My subsequent visits were more comfortable though.
Eh, it’s so-so. Everything is overly overpriced, at first I thought about it and it was shipped over seas but there are charging wayyyy too much for some basic product. For instance, a pen was marked 1,000 won, which in around American money is around $.78. I bought it for $2.99 along with a couple of other pens. That pen lasted for 2 days before the ink ran out. Excuse me???? This is only a minor example, there are plenty more. If you have money to spend, sure that is a good place for you. However I definitely think that the price is not really worth it as they are ripping you off by a milestone! I later saw the exact same pens being sold at a Chinese place going for $.50 each.
DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!DO NOT COME HERE. Ok the stuff is good but what’s the point if your stuff falls out of your bag since the bag quality is so bad. I lost pens and pencils from this store today. Also the staff watch your every move. When you step into the store you feel obligated to buy something with their hawk eyes. CHANGE YOUR BAG OR PUT YOUR STUFF IN A GOOD QUALITY BAG. Even a paper bag or target bag is better than this “cute bag”. Like the saying goes” DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER” THANKS FOR MAKING ME INSECURE ABOUT EVERY STORE OUT THERE-ITS STORES LIKE YOU THAT HAVE TO RUIN THINGS FOR EVERYONE.
I love this place! I’ve been shopping here since high school, and I always pick up the cutest stationary for school. They import a lot of their stuff so it’s a bit expensive, but worth it! That being said, there is a tendency for workers to hover very closely around you when shopping and that can be uncomfortable.
Wow. I did not expect to read other reviews about racial profiling but I actually found some! ..... And its true!!! If you are a person of color, the staff WILL FOLLOW YOU AROUND THE STORE!!!Its happened to me some years ago and AGAIN when I visited the store in May 2018!!! (Yes, Im a fool for revisiting a store that once disrespected me).Anyhow, see for yourself or read other online reviews of this shop! They are racist! Point blank!
Used to be my favorite place until recently the workers treated us so suspiciously, it was so uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I went there with my friend for cute stationeries. She is hispanic and I am a mixed Asian. There were other girls there that were light skinned but the workers kept their eye on us the whole time and one of them even followed us around, and so blatantly at that! it made me very angry and upset, just shows how close-minded and judgmental these ppl can be..
Racist Asian employees follow you around if you are African-American. Just because I am African-American they followed us around the store because they thought my mother and I were stealing. Never coming back again. The only reason why I gave it one star is because of the cute stationary. Find yourself a differment morning glory don’t go to this one.
This store not even worth a star. This store worth NEGATIVE 5 stars!!!! I bought a Barbie Dreamtopia Rainbow Cove Doll Gift Set - 7 Pack for my nieces as Christmas Gift. I bought it from Morning Glory and this store charged me $67.99. I checked the price later on and found out this store doubled the price from Amazon and Toy R us. This is a really bad business practice and I wont go back again. I will share this message with everyone.Amazon price: $34.39, $ toy R us 37.99.
Just left morning glory and I remember it having great stationary when I was younger but I didn’t end up buying anything because I wasn’t impressed by the selection. I am a dark skinned Hispanic and the workers were very suspicious of my brother and I and one of the male workers stood in front of me and just stared at me while I was looking through some notebooks. I get that they are trying to minimize shoplifting but they could totally have a better approach, like asking if I need any help finding anything. I ended up not buying anything but I felt like they were all wondering if I had swiped something lol. It’s one of those awkward moments where I just wanted to anounce that I had not stolen anything so that they could chill. Also, I read the signs about the baskets but I saw no baskets and no one handed one to me so maybe that’s why I was followed? I don’t know. I really thought there would be something that caught my eye though.
These morning glory employees are racist. If you are espanic or African-American these racist Asians follow you around making sure you are not stealing. Very rude. But other wise the products are very cute and kawaii. But I don’t recommend buying things from her if you are espanic or any other type of culture or even if you don’t want to get followed around by them!
I came into look at Photo albums and diaries... They dont have many samples out for me to see what it looks like inside, they the staff wont greet you (which I think helps for customers to feel welcomed) but instead I was given faces and stares from the staff. And they didnt have a lot of selections. So I wont be going back.
Loyal customer since my return to NY in 2007, when they were in the in-between side of the street opposite mcdonalds.they now have added a small beauty counter and clothing (which I cant fit, cause Im fat so I dont even look at it lmao). Still cute, but boy those prices went up!!! and so did the security! they follow even worse than when they did when I was in high school! its not cause Im black. a lot of the things they sell are easy targets for theft so I understand completely. I visit at least once a month.
Ah... I remember those days: Blue Bear, Hello Kitty, Cinnamonroll, Badtz-Maru, etc,. Every prepubescent youths dream: cute stationary to show off to friends in school and cute plushies to cuddle with every night! Interestingly, I havent had problems with staff blatantly observing my every move as Im browsing, yet. Hopefully, that day will never have to come, lol.I used to buy mechanical pencils and korean notebooks from here. Now I only stop by when I need to buy a gift for any occasions. I like and appreciate that MG offers free gift-wrapping services. Its really convenient, saves time, and presents are always meticulously wrapped. Yay!
Lots of cute stufftheres a lot of variety from stationary to clothes and kitchen needsthe prices are pretty expensive, but thats understandablestaff is nice and helpful, they have free gift wrapping for items $5+ and its done extremely well and looks so perfectoverall a very fun place to gojust be sure to have a purpose to go otherwise youll never leave and your wallet will be very sad
Whether the cashier is the owner or the employee, the attitude of a short-haired woman ignoring and treating customers is cheap! A person who has no basics while working in the service industry!! Because of one such person, the same compatriots are cursed!! Stop flirting and learn the basics!

2022-07-10I bought retractable crayons from here, the type that are encased in plastic, and they were broken upon opening. The crayon piece was cracked deep into the plastic piece, so when my child tried to use it, the crayon part kept falling out(if you have used these crayons, you’ll know what I mean). I should have known these were poor quality/ old, because they were covered in a old white film. I just loved how cute the store was and wanted to buy them anyway, but now realize I shouldn’t have. A lot of the employees here are rude. One time I came in with a beverage, and I saw the sign that said I wasn’t supposed to have a drink but my friend wanted to go inside the store right after we went to Tbaar, so what was I supposed to do? Wait for my friend outside? I kept the drink close to my body to avoid spilling, and I didn’t touch anything, I was trying to be respectful, none of the 4 employees walking around said anything to me either. At the end when my friend and I were checking out, one of the employees who seemed like a manager, very rudely told me no drinks allowed like I was a toddler, and handed me a bag to hold my drink in? I’m not even sure how that made sense to her, I could easily spill my drink that way. I put it on my drink and attempted to hold it (felt very weird), and immediately pulled it off. We were about to leave the store, I was not about to potentially spill my drink in a bag(and possibly on the floor!) when we were literally about to leave. Instead of shopping and spending money, should we have left? Just because I have a drink? Word of advice: ask the customer if they want to put their drink near the registers, don’t be rude to them while they’re paying/ leaving, and make sure your employees aren’t too shy to do such. Items here are overpriced, and don’t even get me started on that cheap clothes that’s sold there too by sublease. It’s ridiculously expensive, when boutiques across the street have cuter clothes for reasonable prices. I’ll pass on shopping here. They do indeed follow you around creepily like other reviews state as well.

2022-07-13Though the items were really cute, some were really overpriced. In addition, right as we walked in, 2 workers were staring and following us. As if they expected we were going to steal something. As teens, it felt really uncomfortable since they kept secretly looking at us. They watched us leave the store. The worker would stare at every customer as they walked in. Horrible experience.

2022-03-07Honestly, this was the worst experience I’ve ever had. I came here with my cousin and we were being followed and watched the entire time. They were definitely racist and thought we’d steal something so anytime I picked something up or even TOUCHED something they’d instantly hand me a basket. They labeled the stuff we purchased with a sticker that said ‘paid.’ It was very degrading and I felt so uncomfortable. But yeah I’m never coming back lmao bye I’d rather buy stuff online or find a store that doesn’t see your skin color as a threat??They do have really cute stuff but it’s not worth it when you’re treated like this.

2022-05-19If you want to be followed and treated like a thief from the moment you step foot into a store, this is the place. 🙄 The employees kept staring us down and following us. The items are over priced as well. Not sure how they are still in business when they treat customers like this. 🤔

2021-08-21I love the ambiance of this place, however their items are a tad bit too expensive. For me their cute pens are their best sellers and the only thing decently priced. I love notebooks and journals but there is no way I can see myself paying $10 and up for a that or planners. I can get very cute post it sticky notes from Dollar Tree (yes their quality of pens, notebooks, planner etc have come up significantly over the years) or even Five Below stores. Even the neighboring stores (one right across the street) sell similar items and gorgeous pencils that are not overpriced.
