Great beers and very knowledgeable staff, the woman who helped me took her time and answered all of my questions. Rochester can use a few more breweries at this quality. My only suggestion is find a way to add an additional bathroom or even a porta potty outside. Keep up the good work!!
What an amazing place! We stopped by to check it out and wow, were sold and look forward to our next visit! Theres a great selection on tap and a menu that offers tasty appetizers that hit the spot! The workers are genuine that greet you with a smile upon entry while what I think was the manager lurks and easily strikes up a great conversation (from what I overheard). The atmosphere had an industrial yet cozy feel with a comfort that comes from the service. Overall, this was a great visit and I highly recommended a stop! Cheers!
I had heard of these guys in beer circles and their rating on UnTappd is pretty high, so decided to stop by in the middle of an 8 hr road trip. Definitely worth it! They do some amazing milkshake IPAs (hoppy, but with a tinge of sweetness) and Stouts (some are coffee while others have delicious adjuncts like raspberry). It looks like its in the middle of nowhere but always seems to be crowded. Great place to spend a sunny afternoon with friends. Bring your dog!
This brewery is like no other! I am not an IPA fan, however, the depth and fruitiness of there beer is amazing! Make sure you ask questions! They only sell beer on Thursday and Sunday. Arrive early with a crowler or 2 of your favorite beer, some cups and be prepared to meet new friends. People in line share beer they brought to drink while waiting in line. Honest!!! Get in line to buy beer first! When they sell out, there is no more to purchase! Have your flights after you buy your beer. You will be told how many crowlers you can purchase and you may not have a choice. That’s ok,because every beer is good and because of the limited sales, they are coveted by beer enthusiasts! We went 3 times before we figured out the system. We had great beer to drink each time but third time was a charm. It was a rainy day and we got to purchase 6 crowlers!!! My niece LOVES mortal us and I am her new favorite aunt!
Now I see why everyone raves about this place. The beers are phenomenal. They didnt have anything that was on the tame side. Everything was rich and hearty but delicious and quite potent in terms of ABV. I was a little hesitant to try the ones I did - there was a raspberry cheesecake beer and a banana nut muffin beer, but both worked incredibly well and didnt taste fake. They had a decent number of very good IPAs as well. The space could be a lot better. Its open, loud and when I was there, very overcrowded. Once we got a table it was nice.Id come back. Its a bit of a drive from Rochester but worth it.
This place is incredible. If you like sour beers then this is the place! Amazing.9/15. Back again,. This place is crazy. If you want to see angels while drinking beer, you have to come here. GAWD this place is good!!!Update Nov. 2021. Tasting room closed, outdoor only. Just a few on tap or you buy cans. Really pushing the 4 pack to go. I was very disappointed, made the trip, no one around drinking, just buy and go. Maybe that works for them, but many of us like the opportunity to have a drink, talk, sample and relax. Unless you want to buy and go and hope the beer you picked is really good, dont bother.
OMG! Seriously the best sour beers around! Even my bf who hates beer tried one and loved it. They even had a sour IPA which was amazing. (And I hate IPA.) The place is somewhat small and ordering is a bit cumbersome but the beer is worth it. Definitely check it out if you are anywhere near.
Ive been here twice now and quite enjoyed the beer both times. Ive never liked IPAs until I tried their brews-they have the subtly and layered flavors of a good stout without the unnecessary (in my mind) ultra bitterness off other IPAs.I do need to warn that between the warehouse acoustics and them always being packed its quite hard to hear in there. Granted, its always packed because the beer is that good.If you want crowler to take home (they dont fill growlers) be sure to arrive early.
Great brewery focused on fruit forward sours, DDH IPAs and stouts. You have to try their sours, some of the best out there. It’s a small space for now but friendly staff and fair prices given the quality of their beers. A bit hard to find, it’s not on a main road or anything, but worth the visit. This was one of their Hyrdas, you can see how fruity it is. Line up around 10/1030 for crowlers on release days, they don’t produce a lot.
Not the greatest place to hang out and relax with a beer, but the beers are the story! If the beer wasnt worth it, this place would have got a 2 star rating! Have to admit, the beers here are imaginative and delicious! Quite possibly some of the smoothest beers I have ever tried! The one exception would be their Russian Imperial Stout. This beer was good but tasted just like Rohrbach Vanilla Porter. Sorry guys, not the best beer there but still good as a Porter. Besides that, I will most definitely be back...cheers.
By far one of the best breweries Ive been to. My first time being there and there wasnt one beer on tap that I didnt like. Had a discussion with the owner. Great guy down to earth just trying to push out amazing product for the community. 100% going back there again. Cannot wait to see what they push out next.
The staff here were very attentive and friendly. Im not sure what they do differently in their brewing process, but all of the 8 beers I tried tasted overly sweet and syrupy. Its as if they added corn syrup to all of their beers. I didnt feel like I was drinking beer, and instead it felt/tasted like I was squeezing a bottle of chocolate syrup into my mouth, for example. So if you are one that enjoys very sweet beers and drinks, this is the place for you. On the up side, they were very efficient in taking orders and expediting them.
Great beer in a cozy industrial space. Mortalis has done a great job converting what can only be described as warehouse space into a really comfortable hangout for having a unique beer with friends. The beer is top notch and there is something for everyone on the diverse, adventurous menu. Its worth a stop even if youre just travelling by on 390.
With this shutdown going on i had to go through drivethru. But during that process the staff was amazing. Very helpful and had smiles on the faces. Once home i had finally had time to sit back and sip an amazing drink!!! Cant wait to go back and get a different beverage. Keep up the great work!!!! If you are looking for a smooth flavorful ipa get to Mortalis!!!! They wont disappoint!!!
Oh. My. God. Amazing beers. I never liked sours until I had their sours. Killer stouts, cream ales, milk stouts, and everything else. The huge lines for cans on release days should be testament to the quality. Wait staff is attentive and courteous. The blond one is funny and has good manners.
A good effort that can become great. Beer is very good, surprisingly the raspberry sour was my fav. Milk of the gods was good, as was Venus. The new Graham cracker milk stout was a let down however. I think the base was excellent but just way too heavy on the spice. What brought my review down to 3 Stars was the inconsistent service. There were many friends/investors there and garnered most of the attention. I get that, but you need to think long term. Were I an investor Id want the newcomers to be served in a timely manner. That is how you truly grow your business and get your return on investment. Please keep this in mind going forward. Ill definitely be back, they can Brew for sure.
Ive put off going here for far too long because of the hype and possible large crowds. Well the hype is definitely real as their beers are top notch. Most of their beers are pretty experimental and adjunct heavy which I mean in a very positive way as everything Ive had has been delicious. I made my visit on an early Saturday afternoon and the place was definitely busy but the crowd wasnt overbearing with pleanty of space to move around. If you find yourself in the area and thirsty for some beer this is a must stop place.
What an amazing experience!! You walk in to hip hop blasting and staff full of smiles. One even complimented my Rising Storm hoodie. Then the beers came. The IPAs were fantastic each w/ the perfect fruited smell, hazy, and delicious. Then came the Milk of the Gods and there is a reason why this beer is named Milk of the Gods because it is. It was a perfect end cap to a fantastic Birthday weekend. I advise anyone if you are in the area to stop down and enjoy you wont be disappointed.
Love, love, love that they set themselves apart by having plenty of stouts on tap even though it’s not technically “stout season,” not to mention they are some of the best stouts you’ll have anywhere, ever! The one bit of feedback I have is to the bartenders; maybe engage your patrons a bit more. There happened to be maybe 6+ bar staff on a somewhat quieter Saturday afternoon (possibly due to storms and heavy rain) and my husband and I sat at the bar. While we were served very quickly, the bar staff stood around talking amongst themselves rather than discussing the brews with us or drumming up the general small talk of where we were visiting from, etc. I recognize this is not super important to everyone but it does create a more welcoming atmosphere to new visitors and we just happen to be the type of people who would have enjoyed a discussion about the wonderful beer they have available. Overall, keep up the good brewing. Your beers truly are delicious!
Decided to try these guys on 9/12. Heard good things. Made out my flight card put a 20 on top and proceeded to wait 5 minutes while the blonde bartender told stories at the end of the bar. The male bartender walked by 2 or 3 times without acknowledgement. I understand when youre busy but there were 5 people including me sitting there. Probably would have given at least 3 stars if I had a chance to try the beer I drove out to taste.
Every beer, regardless of style, is top of the line. My wife often struggles to get through a full tasting without passing me her dregs, and she crushed her tasting before I finished the first time we stopped out. (Admittedly, I was inhaling the aroma before each sip and swishing the beer around my mouth--it is that good--, so there was that factoring in!) I have been looking for an IPA that rivals Julius, and Ive found one in Catapult, and I only have to drive 5 minutes to get it! Living smack dab between Mortalis and the future Other Half, I have died and gone to beer heaven.
Incredible beers. Have been out there twice now (1.5 Hour drive) and it is well worth it both times. First time I just had a few flights on a Saturday afternoon and it was some of the best beer Ive ever had. Didnt realize they only do crowlers on Thursdays and Sundays at that point so we just went out again this past Sunday to get some crowlers and cans to go. Again. Some of the best beer and it was worth every minute and penny. I love this place. Its also a good opportunity to try out some of the other breweries that are scattered around out there. Mortalis Brewing is surely going to continue blowing minds all while bringing business to other breweries and places in the area. Cheers!
Almost all my reviews are positive because I like to reward great food and service. Rarely do I post negative. Straight to the point: very overpriced, hospitality was poor, and completely unimpressed with product. Being local and wanting small businesses in area, I hope they succeed. I hope they improve. If someone there reads this, compare your pricing to this region. That’s ridiculous for what is charged for substandard quality.
Tons of options here! Not to mention, none of there beers are conventional beers. If youre like me and do not really enjoy the taste of hoppy beer, try out Mortalis Brewing Company. They offer DELICIOUS beers that include mango, blackberry, dragonfruit, and many more! Go check it out!
I need to go back to this place- the beer is incredible. I tried 6 different beers during my first vist and they were 6 of the best beers I have had in my life. I hope that Mortalis is able to grow to the point where I can just pick some up at Wegmans. In any case, if you’re looking for world class craft beer look no further. The only drawback is lack of seating.
Looking at the website and reading the list of beers made me think wow, this is my new favorite brewery. I drove the 2 hours to Avon and was looking really forward to sampling and taking a few cases home but when I got there it didnt feel that welcoming with a crowd of people who were reading the 1 sign they had as the beer lost and the sign telling you to make sure that you have your order ready before approaching the counter. So, no sitting and looking at a venue and ordering (like any other microbrewery). But ok, I can do that. The real reason for this 1 star is when I got to the counter and asked about the crowlers to go I asked specifically about the hydra and the guy behind the counter literally laughed at me. His response was you need to follow us on social media to know when you can get that, you cant just show up and think that it will be available. Well, as someone who just walked in the door for the first time, how the hell would I know that? With the oversaturation in the industry I would think that a business would want to focus on customer service instead of making people feel stupid for not knowing your process. Too pretentious for my taste, there are a hundred other breweries around NY and Ill give them my business.
The samples I had were nice, but my issue was with the service. You cant take anything home unless you get there in time for the prefilled crowler sales and they dont fill growlers? Ive never been to a small brewery like this that doesnt fill growlers. We cant all drive to a brewpub and have at it all day. I happened to be in the area for another event so that is why I stopped in. I left with almost all the money I brought and no beer to take home. I live 40+ minutes away and there are many great places around Rochester now offering flights, food, and growler fills so Im unlikely to ever be back.
First of all, be prepared to be blown away by the depth of these beers. Having said that, do not expect to buy any beer you want on any day. It took 3 visits to figure out how this brewery works and it was so worth it! They sell crowlers only on Tuesday and Thursday. Arrive at least 45 minutes to an hour early, bring some crowlers from other breweries to share with the beer lovers in line( dont forget a few extra cups). We were pleasantly surprised to find people in line very friendly and generous! We tried a treehouse and a beer from Florida while we waited! The owners cannot sell before noon on Sunday but they dont stop guests from sharing while they wait. About 11:45am ( on a Sunday), they count the number of people in line and count the number of crowlers for sale and the owner (I think), lets you know how many crowlers you can purchase. Sometimes it is only 1, we were lucky to get 6 per person( it was a rainy day). Bring a cooler to put your crowlers in! After you purchase you beer, you can order a flight or a glass of nectar of the gods. These beers are so thick you would think you are drinking a smoothie! Once you order your flight, feel free to sit with anyone and you will be delighted to sit with whoever you are with and you will have a great time. I almost forgot, the grilled cheese sandwich is beyond delicious! It is a short drive from Rochester. We came from Webster and it was right off 390. Cheers!
The Boatdrinks beer was okay, lots of sours and IPAs on the menu. Great coffee stout. Limited food menu and the pretzels are just pretzels out of a bag, with some honey mustard dressing and honey Dijon. Very loud, and the lighting is weirdly bright from the florescents overhead. Overall meh.Edit: it is possible I am biased because I love Belgian beers. Friends enjoyed the unique selection as well as the walking bahn mi and the noodles.

2022-04-16I wish it had been a better day and there was outdoor seating, but I did get lucky enough to grab a prime spot among the few tables by the bar. I had 3 top notch stouts which were all done very well and took a few more cans home. Computer glitch, but the all the guys couldnt have been nicer/more apologetic even though they were as helpless as I was. My 1st time IN, 2nd AT, Mortalis, but as much as it cant be an every weekend kind of deal, I certainly hope its not the last. Avon area, hit up this gem OFTEN and CBGs, its worth the pilgrimage!

2021-08-30This is honestly some of the best beer I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I wish I lived closer. The staff is always excellent and pleasant, and assist you with any questions that you may have on the drinks. I have tried other sour beer breweries since visiting Mortalis, and nothing compares. Their bumper stickers are pretty cool too. Cheers.

2019-02-17Great beers with a nice relaxing atmosphere with nice small plates to enjoy with your beers. The place is small but only has been opened for a year or so. I have high hopes for them to expand due to such a great product and brand.

2019-10-08Awesome place. Staff is very friendly. Head brewer is a great guy. The beer is simply fantastic. This place is a must stop for anyone. It was awesome to hear their stories and what they are trying to accomplish. This place alone makes me want to visit NY more often.

2019-12-07First time going and the staff were all great and welcoming! The beer was Phenomenal!!! I have a high bar set for what I like and they exceeded the bar with the selection as well as good service. It’ll be awhile before im back based upon distance, but their beer was one of the best I’ve ever had. Good job guys, you’ve gained a lifetime customer and I’ll definitely promote and recommend you to any real beer drinkers.

2020-02-25Ive been here probably 30x since they opened & realized I never posted a review...This place has top notch owners, top notch staff, and top notch beer as well as an acceptable food menu for brewery. They deserve 6 stars for working their butts off, starting with little, crowdfunding more, and turning their vision and passion for brewing into a brand that everybody who loves cutting edge beer is in search of on each new release...my only hope for the future is that as they grow they do not lose the unique thing that they have created...

2022-04-24Great selection, cozy environment, friendly staff. Just off 390, but the location gives me the feeling of being away from everything.

2019-05-11There is a reason there is buzz about this place. If you are in the neighborhood (or on the Eastern Seaboard) swing by this hidden gem. Plan on taking the delicious beer home in your belly though, there is no chance youll get some to go.

2021-10-13Best beer I have ever had, my fiance doesnt even drink beer and she loved it as well. Nicest people I have ever encountered working at a brewery!! Exceeded all expectations and I will struggle to find another beer that I like as much! Absolute must go.
