Mott Street Eatery in New York
I wandered in here by accident. It was pretty late in the day; so the bakery didnt have much options left. Price is comparable to other local eateries. What I love about it is: the elders come hangout here after lunch crowd-something very common in other countries including Europe. 2. Unlike Flushing which has few lovable food courts, this is Chinatowns first which is actually very common in Asian, along with night markets. 3. No, its not modern, its not flashy or instragam friendly, rather its simple, clean cafeteria style, its not meant to be a popular trendy joint, it is for eat and go. 4. Theres are not a lot of stalls but it gives folks a couple of options to try different cuisines on sites, and prefect when you are with a group. And each stall specialize in something. The dumpling place sells frozen dumplings, I am looking forward to purchasebags when the weather is cooler. Try the ice cream at the bakery. And maybe the Malaysian/Chinese restaurant that use to be on Baxter Street a pop up for the longest....will he interested in having a stall.
Visited Mott Street Eatery on New Years day 2022 around 2pm with my fiancee. The food court was about 50% occupied. I tried the dim sum as we were craving congee on this cool, rainy day.Shrimp Har Gao 5/5. Very generous with the amount of shrimp (fully stuffed) and the shrimp was very crunchy as well. They ran out of Shrimp rice rolls unfortunately. Remember to ask for soy sauce as they may not routinely provide it.Shrimp Shu Mai. 5/5. This was hot and freshly made. It was a good size and the shrimp were crunchy too. Cant go wrong here at all.Congee with preserved eggs and pork: 6/5 hands down. This was one of the best congee with preserved eggs and pork that I have had. The portion size was huge, and they were so generous with the amount of preserved eggs and pork.Fried Doughsticks (You Tiao): 4/5. They had fried a few doughsticks in advance, so it was not as hot as I would have liked, but it was crispy nonetheless so one point off here.Pork bun with vegetables: 3/5. The buns were very flavourful. I think these buns may have been sitting for a while, so the skin was slightly soggy. I also wished they added a bit more filling here. But no regrets. My fiancee and I had a great time. This was definitely restaurant quality food at a competitive price. In my opinion, the dim sum here is better than Golden Unicorn, which charged us almost twice as much for the same amount of food. We will definitely be back to try the other stalls in the future.
I quite honestly didnt expect much from this food court considering the variety of restaurants in the Chinatown / Little Italy area. However, all the place I tried has good food at an affordable price. This alone could be worth for group / family traveling together wanting quick eats at an affordable price.
5 for fresh Tofu stall in the back lady is super friendly and helpful grass jelly fresh tofu super yummy.. The stall with ducks and dim sum cashier really rude and not helpful. Also on the right cafe bakery staff super friendly and thoughtful. Hopefully some more interesting options pop up.
Mott St. Eatery is not a food court as previously described. It basically has 1 large stall named 89 Eatery that serves a variety of roast meats, dim sum and noodles. This stall had the most customers. There were 2 other stalls that serve sushi, pizza and burgers. There was even a stall that sold Chinese herbal medicines and teas. These stalls were not busy.I was disappointed by the roast pork ordered from 89 Eatery. It was tough and chewy. Although I asked for the pork to be cut up, it wasnt cut all the way through. I had to individually slice each piece when I got home. Maybe its opening tweaks that need to be made. I didnt try the dim sum or noodles. With so many choices in Chinatown for roast meats and dim sum, this may not be a top choice.
The tofu dessert place is just eh... I got a weird piece of plastic in one of my containers. The large flavored desserts are unreasonably up charged compared to the regular. The wonton noodles near the dimsum place is fantastic and the dimsum is really good. They have shrimp shumai. The sushi is overpriced for the quality.
Great new food court. Just newly opened so not a lot of stores. But the one that stands out is the dim sum restaurant. Itβs super good, restaurant quality, fast, get what you want and eat. Donβt have to pay for the tea fee and tip at other dim sum restaurants. They give generous portions on their shrimp siu mai which was juicy. This is cheap, express dim sum thatβs worth trying!
Went there for dim sum and bbq pork and roast duck. Its actually very good. The dim sum had huge shrimps. They definitely dont skimp on quality. I was told it was their soft opening they were smoothing out the process. 1st food court in the heart of chinatown. Im excited, I heard more stores coming soon. Chinatown needs it after the pandemic.I will try the pizza/burger spot and the sushi next time. The sushi looks good freshly prepared infront of you. Eager to try the duck pizza. And also theres a bakery as well, eager to try their coffee and patries
First time coming after it became a food court (formerly Harmony Restaurant). Its been a long time coming in the heart of the OG Chinatown in NYC. Looking around the stalls and the price points, your contribution is paying the rent. There were a couple of stalls that were still empty. A good variety of shops. I didnt expect a dimsum place, but its there. Alot of people sitting around and some as bold bringing in outside food.. The sushi and pizza stalls seem pretty interesting.
The dim sum of the dim sum department of Gourmet Restaurant is no longer fresh at noon, but generally, restaurants that focus on quality will not sell some dim sum that is not fresh to customers, because the cost of dim sum is not too high: sell some Customers who eat stale dim sum will no longer have the appetite to return to patronize: so selling stale dim sum to customers is undoubtedly a catch-up!I used to buy char siu bun there, and the char siu bun they gave me was very unpalatable because it was soaked in water for too long!I also bought their Frying Dump, and their fried dumplings were left for too long and the flour of the fried dumplings lost their toughness and tasteless! In addition, their white sugar cake: not sweet and smooth: but hard and loose!About their bakery department: the bread in their bakery department is also average: and I have eaten their paper cake twice, and I have more discomfort in my stomach. In fact, as long as they seal the bread, there will be no similar problems. It also keeps the bread fresh!

2022-07-17Food here was so good (and cheap!!!)We got the chive and pork dumplings from Sanmiwago (soooo good), the fried fish and tofu from Yan Wo Dou Bun inc, and a chicken noodle soup dish from 98 Food Court.Only thing is they only serve with single use stuff so I would bring your own plates / bowls if you want to be more sustainable!

2022-07-20I like the stuffing of the shrimp dumpling, it was tasty. However, the wrapping is falling apart, i dont like the texture. Also , i like the flavor of the turnip cake, not greasy, trace of turnip dice. The order process is manual and troblesome. While the helper is blocked by the plexi glass, they pretty much unable to hear what you want to order, regardless of what language you speak.spacious seating, neat and clean.

2022-01-061/3/22. Sanmiwogo - A Dumpling stall. I got lucky. 50% off their 8-piece Gyoza π₯. Only $4.I wasnβt expecting much but it exceeded my flavor and presentation expectations to a big extent.Big hand-made dumplings, freshly boiled, then pan-fried, topped with generous scallions and cilantro. The chili oil, black bean sauce added a VERY nice touch. FLAVOR BOMB!!!I was a fat and happy customer!!! Thanks to the staff. ππ½

2021-12-10A GREAT addition to Chinatown and itβs community. As soon as you walk in, it is evident that this place is Chinese grandma approved (experts in where all the authentic, fairly priced, fresh, & delicious goods are)! Its refreshing to find a new operation that seems to try to maintain the feeling of old Chinatown, a non-pretentious haven of familiar food for Chinese Americans, and to anyone who appreciates good food without all the additional fluff.Itβs the perfect destination for a casual, quick bite to eat, reminiscent of the night markets in Asia.On my visit, I ordered the bbq meat and soup noodles from 98 Eatery. The roast pork was EXCEPTIONAL (the meat was juicy with the skin perfectly crisp). Canβt wait to return for dim sum (this stuff sells out by midday!) as well as all of the other vendors!

2022-01-25Excellent food with unbeatable price. All of the stalls owners are the sweetest! My family and I went there probably at least 5x within 10 days. Well, its no surprise when the food is fantastic. Everyone should go to the Chinese BBQ stall for some amazing BBQ and dimsum, and to the soya bean stall where they sell homemade soy milk, soy pudding dessert, etc.

2021-11-19Very interesting place for Chinatown - itβs very first food court! Right now there are 5 places you can eat/drink from. As you enter on the right, there is a drink shop serving coffee and teas. Then, Domo Sushi is next which serves sushi (currently a special going on for 20% off items). Next is Greenyβs Tea then Burger Pizza Kwan. On the left side there is the biggest store and the most popular, 89 Eatery, which serves dim sum, noodles, and meats. Prices are around going rate compared to similar stores that are selling the same items.Today we got a whole chicken, and it was absolutely tastelessβ¦ soβ¦. π€ We also ordered some dim sum items like a char siu bao (char siu inside was more jelly) and a shrimp rice roll (which was too soft, but large shrimp). The left side still has space for food shops to rent out, so I am looking forward to see what other food there is to offer!I thought the food court would be a little bigger and more spacious, but it was quite crowded during lunch time which is expected. There is a pretty large pathway in the center leading to the stage, but could have been used for more tables and chairs.
