Something is wrong with the service when it takes 42mins to get your coffee. Also, I was a tourist staying in South Bronx so came here regularly throughout the week (as there were no other coffee shops in the vicinity). This was not the only instance of delays, order mix ups etc.It really is not like me to leave a negative review, but honestly I would not recommend this place.Coffee however is decent. Just not worth a 42 minute wait.
Hear me out...I absolutely love Mottley Kitchen and have been going there for sometime and have always been satisficed with both the food and costumer service. With that being said the past couple of visits has not been a great experience, especially the visit I had today. The young girl at the register seemed confused about how to put in our order for the Ranchero sandwich with steak added, after we fumbled through completing our order which included 2 breakfast sandwich, a blueberry corn muffin, and 2 Lattes the wait began. We got our drinks 10 mins after ordering, and because its a open kitchen we seen that our hot food was sitting on the back table waiting to be picked up by the workers, because it was a little busy I went to the counter and asked for them to pass me the sandwiches so we can eat it while still hot the young girl making the drinks said you are going to have to wait and continued making drinks, the young girl at the register made a ice coffee for another customer, walked to the table where my food was sitting, picked up another costumers food that was packed and ready to go (this customer came in about 10 mins after we had order) I once again asked for my food to be passed to me and was told by the young girl wait. Wait? my food was sitting on the table for close to 10 mins at this time, the other costumers where standing there looking at me with the dang thats messed up face I asked for my money back for the sandwiches and left. Its ashamed when a place with great food but subpar services (of lately) makes you not want to continue to spend money there. I will take a break from here and then try again to see if things are back to normal.
Great place for lunch! Pleasant atmosphere. Ample seating. Delicious tea and coffee, and very fresh pastries. Bread pudding to kill for! Vegetarian options available. They use very fresh ingredients for soups, salads and sandwiches. Very clean bathroom. Several books and souvenirs for purchase. The staff is nice and will modify orders upon request.
This is truly a Bronx gem & the cutest coffee shop near me! I was really pleased to find this place on a Friday morning. It’s filled with more than just baked good and tasty drinks, you can find a collection of books to purchase or read. They have a nice selection of Mottley’s brand and Bronx native apparel you can also buy.I’m so happy that I was able to work remotely on the roof and connect to their wifi. They had a nice chill vibe and awesome music.I will definitely be returning to this shop, their staff was super friendly as well. I highly recommend the chai latte and BLT! Their muffins and cookies are also delicious!!
Great café place to not only enjoy a cup of delicious joe but the ambience and the core are beautiful . The staff are Evey happy to recommend items on the menu and a nice laugh . The roof is beautiful, the view is breathtaking . Some come ,stop by and enjoy a cup of joe and soporte this beautiful place
If I’m being completely honest, I think divine intervention brought Mottley Kitchen into my life. It’s perfectly situated close to my home, and offers delicious food, treats and the caffeine boost I always need. The ambiance is wonderful and I’m OBSESSED with the rooftop that opened in 2020! (there’s even a sweet puppy to visit!) Nothing quite like it in Mott Haven.
Lovely atmosphere, beautifully decorated. Friendly staff. The coffee was awesome! My husband is from Portugal, he is always looking for a good spot to have his espressos. Looks like he finally found a spot in the Bronx that he likes. The food was delicious I loved the avocado toast. The almond cake so, so good it was fresh, and moist. Absolutely will be returning.
I really loved how welcoming your staff was. The rooftop had a nice feeling and I liked the rustic earthy decor indoors. The pastries were yummy, especially the lemon 🍋 oil cake (please keep making them.) My niece asked me almost 5 times to give you 5 stars 🌟, which I will. I will visit again and try salty things on your menu and the lemon cake.Cons:The only thing I was uncomfortable with was eating in the same place as dogs 🐕 They were shaking everywhere and their fur were flying all over the place. It took us 35 minutes on the subway to get to your location. I hope one will be open soon around zip code 10460.
Extremely slow, inefficient service. Ridiculous.Prices are crazy. The prices of their croissants and other pastries are literraly higher that what you can find in the top bakeries of New York. And this is the Bronx.... somehow this represents everything wrong with the gentrification.
Update: So I am changing my review to 5 stars! The only negative point I had last time was the bad service, so I decided to try again. Just the opposite to my previous experience, the guy was so friendly, courteous and kind and even spoke to me in Spanish ;) (you can tell from miles away I am from Latin America lol) they prepared the food super fast and my Ranchero sandwich and hummus salad were delicious. The ranchero sandwich ia very fullfiling and a whole meal: egg, avocado and egg. This is the nicest spot in the area. It is very spacious, with a healthy food and coffee drink menu. They have nice decor and small art exposition on the walls. Books for sell, some about the Bronx where Motley Kitchen is featured.Old review: The cashier woman was rude and she cannot smile. I ordered 2 sandwiches to go and waited over 30 minutes to get them. She claims she called my name several times, but she did not. Besides, she knew where I was sitting waiting for my food so she could have just brought them. The sandwiches were just OK, maybe could have tasted better warm and freshly made... not 30 minutes+ my walk home later. I shall try again when she is not there, since the place is very nice.
Everything I have tried here has been amazing. The lattes and other espresso drinks are great. The salads are all tasty. Im obsessed with the green goddess salad. My boyfriend loves the maple glazed crueller. Their brownies are heavenly. They have a gorgeous rooftop seating area. Great place for breakfast or lunch.
It’s an amazing little coffee shop. The food is amazing and taste deliciously home made. The coffee is great and my daughter loves the latte art in her hot chocolate. The staff are very warm and welcoming. They keep the place neat and organized. I definitely see myself becoming a regular here. There’s pretty good WiFi and good music playing.
A Bronx Gem, you can’t find fresh homemade style food like this anywhere else in the city for such an affordable price. The cafe is a large, open and welcoming layout with a beautiful mix of modern and industrial styling. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and head chef, friendly talented people who have a passion for cooking. I look forward to visiting again. It is the perfect place to stop for a quick lunch before visiting other Bronx hot spots; like the Zoo, Gardens or Brewery.Soon, when you think Bronx you will be thinking amazing food and attractions.
I love finding hidden Gems! And this is definitely a hidden gem! The atmosphere in this cafe is so peaceful we definitely needed something like this in the area! I ordered a vanilla bean latte with almond milk! Super tasty! Looking forward to returning to try the food menu next!
This place says “gentrification” all over it. So quaint and nice and the food all looks amazing. I had the classic egg sandwich and it was fantastic. The service was delightful as well. Love these little gems. It has a great coffee-house vibe for sitting in on your laptop as well.
I love this place. Its at the end of a historical street with beautiful brownstones. I passed it by the second time I visited. Remember residential block in the middle of Mott Haven in the South Bronx. When you enter through the door you are capitvated by the beautiful and simplistic environment. I go there for the fresh food and home made bake goods. Its a little pricey but, thats because I usually get the spring water, pudding, the green goddess salad and the chicken club enough food for two . You wont be disappointed. The blueberry bread pudding OMG I want to buy it all, the maple curlers donuts Good God melts in your mouth . The chicken bacon club with homemade bun and sauce. There is also my favorite green goddess salad with avocado and home made dressing. I could go on and on but you must go. Take 6 train to 138th or jump on M15 bus it will leave you closer. I have only gone on weekdays. The two southern ladies that run this place are beautiful and very sweet just like this place. Great for a Saturday brunch. If you have a date in the Bronx take them here!and now they have a beautiful roof top dining area !
Absolutely in love with this café! The green goddess salad is my favorite and the chocolate chip cookie is the best Ive ever had. The merchandise table is a great place to grab fun local items and gifts! The inside is gorgeous and clean and they have amazing staff members. I cant wait to go back and enjoy the rooftop and maybe a yoga class or outdoor movie! I cannot recommend this spot enough!
I went there to get breakfast before my state test. I got there at 8:30am and ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and a ice coffee. It took 15 minutes to get my ice coffee and didn’t get my sandwich until 9am and it was only 4 other customers didn’t even get to eat my sandwich. SMH
The best latte I have ever had... the skill level of the baristas and chefs here is unreal. This is definitely a place you must visit if you’re in the area. If you watch “chef’s table” on netflix, this is that type of place. The owners take “taste” to a new level without the intrusive gentrification vibes which now dominate Harlem. The Bronx community and its vast culture are celebrated here. You’ll appreciate the scenery, the space is beautiful, but the food is a little too good for a cozy coffee shop. You will never eat the food at Starbucks again. Trust me.
First time here, I work around the area once a week. I literally gps food near by, and Mottley was on the list. I liked that the menu is simple and not overwhelming. I ordered the sweet & spicy club and it was delicious. However, the only drawback was, and idk if it was my luck today, I waited almost an hour for my sandwich. Pretty disappointing that I spent my lunch hour waiting. Anyhow, I would go back to try their coffees. Hopefully it wont be a long wait.
Absolutely amazing!! While passing through the neighborhood, I stumbled upon this coffee shop and I’m in love! The vibes are perfect and wish we could sit and take it all in. The blueberry muffin is one of the best I’ve had in years and the coffee is unbelievable! I can’t wait to come back and I hope this place becomes a neighborhood hang out post-COVID! 10/10 would recommend!
This is definitely the best coffee shop in the area hands down. Im not sure if the rooftop area is open currently but theres lots of spaciousness inside and the servers are nice and friendly. Sometimes they also host storytime events on Saturday mornings for kids. Lovely establishment.
I buy from here at least once a week. It’s one of the great gems of the Bronx and deserves all the praise it gets! The food is delicious and their coffee is amazing. I always go for the bacon egg and cheese, a coffee with vanilla, and a blueberry muffin. Can’t go wrong
This establishment is nice aesthetically, however I found the service fairly cold. You know when someone is nice enough thats just the feeling I got. I ordered a salad, green goddess, it was ok.. and I asked for bacon on the side. This server, 😑😑, (I gotta pause) bought out 1 slice of bacon on a plate, cut in 1/2😑😑..I didnt know whether I shouldve been insulted or annoyed. If I ask for bacon on the side, Im expecting at least 4-5 slices😒and you would think the server would make you aware that 1 slice of bacon is $1.50 and then ask you how many pieces would you like? The coffee and the cheddar broccoli biscuit was ok. The food was ok, I just wish the staff was a lil more warm.
My boyfriend moved here for the summer and since we found this place I make him bring me every time I visit. Everything we’ve gotten is amazing, food and coffee included. We got the sausage sammie and almond butter and jam toast last time and their coffee is a reason enough to go alone. The inside is decorated gorgeously and the atmosphere is wonderful all around!
Visited for the first time based on a co-workers recommendation. Lovely environment and really great food and service. It is very hip, with great setting and plenty of light with the large window front. It seems that it could be a great place to have lunch with friends or work during the day. Will definitely return.
Mottley Kitchen is my daily go to spot. Amazing pastries, breakfast sandwiches and lunch options. The staff is so friendly. Its a great place to have coffee with friends, have breakfast or lunch meetings, or hang out for a few hours to get stuff done while eating yummy treats!! They also have an incredible catering service. Ive had them do everything from a private lunch for 20 to a big fundraiser dinner.
This unexpectedly superb food experience combines carefully chosen and prepared ingredients with the preparation of a truly professional, well-informed and totally charming chef! Jose and his sous-chef, Christopher, cooked up a 5-course savory dinner plus dessert that easily matches any of the finest restaurants in Manhattan, with the added charm of watching all of the preparation at the front-row counter in his professional kitchen. A must for anyone up for a unique dining experience.
What a great new place this is in Mott Haven, South Bronx! The ambiance is great and the staff is friendly. The food is very healthy and delicious, and served in generous portions. They offer free wi-fi, plus books and other merchandise for sale. I had the Hummus Lunch Bowl, Tumeric latte, and a large chocolate chip cookie. Im already dreaming of my next visit there!
A much needed addition to the neighborhood. Instead of following the cookie cutter cafe shop they have gone several steps above and provided an actual in house bakery that also makes an assortment of craft coffee and tea beverages.First and formost, the location is beautifully designed with wide rustic wooden tables providing open seating. This is balanced by a the slate grey concrete floors. The open kitchen behind the counter allows you to see the staff hard at work on all of the delicious pastries and bake goods that are made on the premises. You wonnt find that in many well established restaurants even in midtown Manhattan or the fancy parts of Brooklyn. For my first visit I had a French Crueller with a lemon and blueberry glaze. It was so fresh, light, and airy I thought I was going to float away. And the zest of the berry and lemon was beyond amazing. I also ordered an egg sandwich that was as good, if not better than what I can make at home, and if your wondering, Ive veen told I make the best egg sandwich anyone has ever devoured (courtesy of a talented chef and personal friend). I finished off my meal with a tumeric latte that was both perfect and beautifully prepared. I was so into the meal I forgot to take pictures. My only complaint is that there isnt one in Harlem near my building but that makes it another reason to hop on over to the Bronx. I will definitely be back.
This is a gem in the most unexpected of places. I make it my business to come from sometimes the farthest areas of the Bronx. They have an amazing staff, Williamsburg-ish ambiance and unique foods with interesting flavor profiles. My favorite things are the iced mocha mafe with oat milk and the choc cookie.
Its very trendy place. A bit pricey 4 the neighborhood, but not too pricey considering. The food is fresh, they sell books and other stuff. They have coloring paper and crayons for kids, they suggest taking and/or leaving a book, ones they dont sell, the place has a restroom, they have outdoor benches for u to eat outside with ur dog, they provide drinking bowls for pets, and u can leave ur pet outside near the benches and pet bowl while u eat. Im not entirely sure, for It was a while ago, but I believe they aswell dog treats as well. The place is air conditioned. Parking is on the curb, the mta bus is near by, the 6 train is a bit of a walk, but not that bad. I believe 2 or 3 blocks away. They do sell vegan meals here, but they also sell none vegan meals as well, has definitely a healthier eating vibe. The floor is industrialized so u dont have to feel too bad about kids making a mess, or running around. Its a quiet place, but they never made me feel uncomfortable for the 4 kids I was walking with that day, who r loud. Bathroom is very clean.
A brand new cafe in the South Bronx emerges as a must-try coffee and food destination! The environment is warm and friendly, and feels fresh and vibrant. I got a delicious cappuccino - great quality! - and the avocado toast for breakfast. They were very generous about the quantity of avocado - so so impressed. The topings of harissa, chilli oil and pumpkin seeds made it something special. So much on the menu to try - including the lunch grain bowls and the array of coffee options such as the tumeric chai latte! Prices acceptable too. So excited for the South Bronx that theres a cool cafe experience in the neighbourhood! Cant wait to see this take off. Free wifi means you can bring your laptop and study/work in this chilled environment. Newspapers available to read too. Good stuff - keep up the good work
Today was the first time there! Where have I been!?Omg what a beautiful place! Loveeeeeee the staff!! They where sooo friendly, super welcoming. The cortado and cookie were DELICOUS. Can’t wait to go there Saturday, with my children to read books at 10am!!! Thank you guys for the amazing treatment!! (Victoria and a gentleman I can’t recall his name) I have the menu and I’m super excited to go there and have lunch!!

2022-01-25I ordered the Green Goddess Bowl ($11) plus chicken ($extra) for take out. This place is a healthy food option in the South Bronx. Items are pricey relative to what is affordable in the neighborhood but comparable to sweet green or other salad chains. There is coffee, teas, pastries, and hot food available. The chicken in the salad was really good and flavorful. I typically dont like arugula. I like that they sell products from local vendors and have a youth program. I think thats key for a business in a black and brown community to combat the gentrification cafes typically bring. There is a rooftop with seating and wifi. I will try and come back to lounge. Also, the smart printer was clutch when I had to print something.

2022-01-27Coffee was reasonably priced, but also smaller than expected. For me, the tiny portion was just right for how much caffeine I was looking for.The atmosphere is beautiful, with an industrial yet coworking vibe. Location is decent and the staff friendly! I’m a fan and I’ll be back!

2022-06-01The coffee and sandwiches are good. Nice staff and ambience. Taking away a star bc there are flies all over the pastries laying eggs on the muffins and cakes 🤮🤮

2021-09-17Great unexpected breakfast, lunch and coffee spot in the middle of the Bronx. Has tables inside and a pretty patio on top. A lot of people seem to bring laptops and work here too, good for them, its a pleasant atmosphere. Had the orange cake which was very good.

2022-01-16Definitely my favorite place in the South Bronx. Every single thing is delicious here. We love it all. We are infinitely grateful to have this cafe a short citibike trip away from our house and also to be able to order it on caviar for delivery. Highly recommend!! Great spot for private events too!

2021-07-22Local hidden gem of the South Bronx. Very good coffee, absolutely fantastic pastries (everything is baked on premises) and very lovely decoration making space is hard to leave. Also, selling books (you can borrow to read), masks and other merchandise, veggies and bulk of product. And cherry on top - rooftop garden. Hey, when last time you see a coffee shop with rooftop garden?I would say, probably the best space in South Bronx, very comfortable and yeah, always want to get back here.

2022-05-16This place is a gem! Not too sweet turmeric latte, dairy free breakfast bowl and *delicious* pastries. Enjoyed it all sitting on a rooftop garden.

2022-03-19Loved the avocado toast and other baked goods my group got. Great location and rooftop. I am only rating it as a two because 1)There’s no clear indication about where the line to order starts or place to pickup drinks or food. 2)They also use the name on your credit card for your order, which caused my friend’s order to be named after a gift card. Which was bizarre because she didn’t order using a gift card.3)the barista/manager was extremely rude to me for no reason. I said nothing in return as I am not one for confrontations. When people are rude for no reason one can’t help but wonder if it’s because of how one looks- I’m a south Asian woman with a name that was clearly indicated on my order. while it is not fair to call someone racist without knowing for sure, I don’t think I will return to this cafe. This may be a rare occurrence so please don’t let my experience dissuade you from checking it out.
