Mountain Brauhaus in other cities:
German food with a few interesting touches. The schnitzel was great and my partner tried the black trumpet mushroom dish and enjoyed it. The red cabbage was perfect, and the pretzels excellent too, with a nice oily glaze. There were big portions for many items, especially for salads and greens. Some local beer and berlinerweiss made for a fully rounded lunch. Staff was very attentive and was able to accommodate us very well.
Customer Service is rockstar⭐️ the host that greeted us when we came(forgot to ask her name) and Jody are super nice and accommodating, Jody gave us an awesome recommendation on our drinks and we love it😍 the place was beautifully done, we have an amazing view, it has a good amount of space for social distancing, bathrooms are clean… servings are huge and delish😘 Glad we stop by here😊 Highly recommended!
Amazing friendly service. Family owned. Knowledgeable friendly staff. Great beer. Great food. I had the elk . It may have been the best steak Ive had in my life. The pretzels are amazing. Everything is amazing. My only regret is not trying the rueben strudel. Oh well....net time
Always enjoy going to Mtn Brauhaus lovely drive for Easter Sunday and any time to see the mtns. I am from New Paltz and fondly remember John at the bar giving us kids a huge chocolate bar for the drive home. Yesterday, new policy we had our pup Hudson that was allowed in the restaurant. She was a good girl until people spoke to her then she had to respond with a couple barks. Love all the old school touches and fresh food. Delicious salad with buttermilk and fresh dill on greens with slivered carrots and red cabbage. We certainly ate too much of the Cohens Raisin Pumpernickle bread so did not have the apple strudel a la mode. Danke Schon from Hudson, Wendy Kelly and Martin Lutz ( Zurich)
Probably the best food, drinks, and overall pleasant eating experience I’ve had in as long as I can remember. Absolutely delicious. Huge plates, but rather than become nauseated at the abnormally large portions typically served in the US, I yearned for every savory morsel. The bread was amazing. The vegetables. And I last had the roast beef which was not only tender, but seasoned and rich and cooked to perfection.Every plate I observed in any direction looked mouth watering. Every person I spoke to was lovely and couldn’t rave enough about the place. This is not a dining experience. It is an event. The homemade gingerbread cookie at the end made perfection. One of the top 3 restaurant experiences of my life! The owners are amazing. And the German chatter in the atmosphere makes the experience truly authentic.Well done! You can order anything. Anything. And be happy.Delish!!!
Had my moms birthday lunch here on Saturday. The drinks and food were excellent! The dinner entrees are huge portions so definitely come hungry if you order them. The benches are set up nicely for outdoor dining. The only complaint were the amount of bees around but that’s nothing anybody can control. If you’re in the area, definitely check this place out, but make a reservation well in advance because they are usually fully booked up to a week ahead of time!
I remember going here on special occasions as a child. I am so happy to share this tradition with my own family now. My girlfriend and I made reservations the night before. Upon entering we were promptly greeted and seated at our reservation. All of the staff was friendly and made it a warm welcome feeling right from the start. Service for ordering was great and the waiter T.J. made very helpful recommendations and answered all of our questions above and beyond what was asked. The food came in a timely matter and was very nicely displayed. The hospitality from all of the staff during our visit was wonderful. I had the Pork Wiener Schnitzelto eat with a Spaten Lager to drink. My girlfriend got the Saurbraten to eat and the raspberry beer to drink. The service size is enough to feed a king. I was just able to finish my plate and she was unable to finish and needed a to-go box. Overall this establishment proved once again to be a perfect choice and live up to their reputation. I highly recommend here for dates, anniversaries or other special occasions. I do recommend making reservations due to the high demand to dine here. Thank you to all of the staff for making our anniversary special and making my girlfriends first time so great that she wants to continue a tradition of coming here.
I have eaten here several times since the early 1990s. Food is good. I have 3 grandparents from North Germany; I am used to German foods and know what to expect. I know there can be differences between German & Bavarian foods.I gave a 4 star cause the waitress was aloof, unfriendly & rude the last time I was there with my mother, my aunt & sister.
Walked into Brauhaus this Saturday afternoon at 2:45 and was welcomed with open arms although the entire Restaurant was full except for two seats at the bar one of which I took. The two young bartenders were as nice as they could possibly be. The two couples on my left had very young children and they were great to chat with. The other folks at the bar were a mixture of ages and all seemed to be exceedingly happy to be there. The dining room radiated with happy sounds and animated diners of all ages and persuasions. The lamb shank plate that I had ordered did take about 45 mins. to arrive but I knew this before I drove a long distance to get to this location so I amused myself with nice Octoberfest beer and polite conversation with the owner, bartenders and my fellow bar mates. When the entree’ came it was as good a German dish as I have ever had and equally as tender. The mashed potatoes were just like Dear Granny used to make and the kraut was equally as home made. A mid February afternoon success in many ways. Two couples had there pre two year olds stop and say hello before they left and that completed a very relax full day atop a mountain in the New Paltz area of beautiful New York State. If you go there with a positive attitude and open mind you can’t miss. It’s an old school place with an eclectic mixture of folk and foods and a work of art in it’s own right. Today was only the second time that I dined here and I consider this establishment an all time favorite restaurant and I have been dining all over the world in my 80years on this planet. Try it, you may appreciate it as I do. Bon appetite.
Birthday dinner extravaganza! They don’t take reservations but do call ahead for the wait list.Genuine German food. Great atmosphere and the best food around. Great drinks and beer on tap. Milk stout, IPA and a spiced appleCider hot toddy with pumpernickel bread and waiting on dinner.Schnitzels are to die for and tonight will be the steak.Warm and inviting atmosphere. Perfect for couples, and families alike.Revision: 2/6/2020Here for Moms 85 th.Better than last time!
Very nice experience. They were full and very busy and the hostess who greeted us was as pleasant as she could be. Menu was not over whelming with choices. Everything we order tasted delicious, it was my first time there and both my daughters first time eating German food.
Ive been going here for years they make good and inspiring feels like youre in the amazing city of Berlin, Germany just by eating here and sometimes their specials are so amazing you dont have a single word to speak of on how much it is amazing that you get a euphoric state of mind
Mountain Brauhaus is one of those spaetzle places that make you feel like family, and their food is firmly rooted in a homey, comforting German style. I’ve tried a lot of items on the menu, with some of my favorites being the Wiener schnitzel, Bratwurst, and Schweinshaxe (pork shank). There is also a healthy selection of beers on draft and in bottles, which can be enjoyed at a picnic table in the backyard as you wait for a table - and you likely will be waiting.
How have I not given this place 5 stars yet?? Food: amazing. I got the Lamb Shank and Creamed corn soup. It was perfect for a rainy day.Waitstaff: we all hit it off right away. Our server Melissa recommended some of her favorite hikes nearby, which we did and she was right! They were amazing.Drinks: superb. Ive made beer and tasted hundreds of beers (as Im sure we all have) but there was something new on the menu here! It was almost a beer hybrid. Not quite sure what it was but it was certainly intriguing and Id like to have it again. Made locally 😄
What a cute authentic German place near some awesome hiking spots! My friends and I ate here after hiking at Lake Minnewaska. It definitely gets crowded during prime hours, which makes the wait long and the service a little slow. Overall, Mountain Brauhaus is worth trying. There are many vegetarian and vegan options as well!
Open since 1955 and still gathering parking lots full of customers in 2019. I love the Brauhaus in a its German charm. If you are in the mood for a Jaeger Schnitzel and a Hefeweizen, this is gonna be your kind of place. Traditional German fare served with care and attention to detail. Braised meats bursting with flavor, not to mention house-made kraut that will knock your socks off. This is the only place I have ever been that serves a desert beer; a Hefeweizen with raspberry syrup that works so well together. Great place to take a date or experience some new eats. Beware, the wait can be long, so call ahead. Outside seating available for light food and drinks.
Absolutely phenomenal. Atmosphere is more than I expected, from the warm decor to the servers costumes. It helped that it was snowing while we were having lunch, which gave the whole place an European vibe. Beer selection is spot on (better than the Gilded Otter) and the food freaking awesome. I had the Knackwurst and the Bratwurst with german potato salad, which was amazing. Cant wait to come back.
Was going to New Paltz and we wanted to grab some lunch. Looked up Mountain Brauhaus and saw the reviews and decided to go. Great choice - its been family owned for 50 years and Marc and his wife do a great job to keep the vibe and food top notch. We had some beer, some potato pancakes and Wiener Schnitzel. All great! Will recommend highly if youre in the area and well be back.
Really wonderful German foods that’s very close to some great hiking trails. They get very busy on weekends, so reservations are recommended. Outdoor dining is first come, first served with a more limited menu. The tap list is wonderful, and the bar food we had was great (brats, pretzel, etc).
Just had drinks, but the vibe was very warm and comfortable. Friendly and excellent service. It got very busy on the Thursday afternoon we were there which makes me think its a great spot. Nice covered outdoor seating with beautiful Catskill mountain views. Definitely recommended.
Food and staff are amazing. I forgot to get a reservation, but the hostess went out of her way & made it possible for my family to enjoy the fare they provide after a long morning hiking. Our first time eating there after many years visiting the area, wont be our last.
No waiting for us! Usually this place is packed, so Im guessing we beat the crowd. Good selection of beers in bottles and draft, plus full service bar. Comfortable, unadorned seating in a peaceful atmosphere. Authentic German cuisine, presented tastefully. Service was attentive, efficient and unobtrusive. A place we could visit again and again.
This place is a gem. The food is deliciously on point. We were served pumpernickel bread and salad to start. We then had the Bavarian pretzel which comes with two types of mustard and ordered the WarmSmokedGouda&HorseradishDip for an extra 2.50 which over all was delicious. Then we had the BratwurstàlaRiesling which was also delicious with the sweet of the apple and sour of the kraut to complement the beautifully spiced sausages. For the main plate I had the Sauerbraten which was not a disappointment(see picture). All this washed down with a German made beer which I dont remember the name but it paired up nicely with our food. My friend had the same apettizers(shared) and the SwabianRostbraten as his main dish which I had a taste and will be ordering it the next time. I highly recommend this restaurant with its great staff.
Worth the hype! Everyone we spoke to recommended this restaurant and thankfully we made a reservation a week in advance because this place was amazing. There were a couple vegetarian options that were just as good as the regular menu options. We had the seasonal farmhouse plate and were not disappointed. This place is worth a visit and was a wonderful end to our vacation.
Our waitress wasnt assigned to our table, but took care of us. She was wonderful serving us and had to address a problem with another rowdy party. She thought I forgot my coat & made the effort to find me, despite her hands being full. Our food was delicious! Will definitely be back if we visit the area again! But make a reservation before going or you may be turned away.
Went for dinner for Mothers Day, an enjoyable dining experience. The restaurant is popular, must have reservations, which are distributed in 45 minute increments. The dining staff insures that a patron is completely satisfied. Any issues with quality of food or something not satisfactory, it can be returned without question. Our table was 3 couples and a 20% gratuity was added to each tab, which made for an easier tab for each couple. The food was delicious and enough for each person, with plenty of leftovers. Overall an extremely pleasant dining experience.
Hands down my favorite restaurant. I dream about the Jaeger schnitzel platter. The staff is warm, friendly and knowledgeable so service has always been excellent. This establishment has stood the test of time in one of the most challenging businesses by paying attention to details. A tremendous amount of love, integrity and hard work is evident in everything they do.
They have really good authentic german food! I love their Spätzle, also they make their own pretzels and I really enjoy the salmon!!They treat their team very nice (that for me is really important when I choose to go to a restaurant) and they are a family business, so is really cozy and friendly.
Among the best German food Ive had in the US. No really. Spaetzle and schnitzel comparable to what Ive tasted in Munich, delightful interpretations of bratwurst and knackwurst, rich and tangy sauerkraut with a slightly sweeter mustard selection and liberal use of bacon and caraway. The salads and flatbread are more locally inspired but reflect seasonally perfect vegetable selections. Tight but well-paired draft beers and truly superb, responsive, knowledgeable service.
I have driven by several times and the parking lot always looked busy and the place looked cute. I always wanted to go and a few friends said it was good. Tonight the parking lot was fairly full but the restaurant just wasnt full at all.Now if you want some unusual beer this is the place. But dont stay for dinner. Some of the beer is served in small glasses and you must understand that they have 11% alchohol and with Dram Shop Laws in NY State you must be able to count your guests drink consumption and 2 of these is not like having 2 Budweisers. The bar is what you would expect of an older German spot with a collection of steins on the top shelf. Cute. The hostess was smartly dressed with a chic haircut. And this is where the good stuff ended. They tell people No a lot. No you cant have a reservation later than 6:45 we close at 7 (7? Yes really.) No, we are out of that beer. No you cant have a hamburger or sandwich written right on the menu. I overheard No we dont have that Rioja wine but I brought you a Cab.Some of the servers wear Fraulein peasant outfits which would be cute if they hadnt been washed 200 times. The dining room had no atmosphere. There appeared to be big oil stains on the carpet. Lots of tchotchkes adorn the walls but they really are not cute.So all the meals come with pumpernickel bread. I love a loaf of warm pumpernickel with some soft whipped butter. My dinner companion bet me $10 it would be foil wrapped iced butter. He won. The hint he said was the cheap paper napkins. The bread was thin, somewhat hard with raisins, likely bought at Restaurant Depot in Newburgh. Totally disappointing. Their house made onion vinaigrette was nothing exciting either. Now there was a lot of ellaspsed time between courses yet they were not busy. (Was it not the regular chef?) I had chicken snitchel with Jaeger sauce. It was decent but my companion said the piece I gave him was dry. The red cabbage was excellent. The spatzel, well I bought some at Aldi last week, it was no better. The flavor was the same as Aldis this texture was too fluffy and Aldis wasnt fluffy enough. Im like Goldilocks here. My companions meal was a sausage platter. Sausages should roast or get sauteed to get a nice unami flavor. I guess these were boiled. The casings gleamed like plastic and the flavor was bland. Super bland. I think they said they make them there (did I remember that right?) Shoperite has better. The saurkraut was OK not too tart but nothing too special. The German Potato salad was mushy, like they should have made mash potatoes with those potatoes instead. All through dinner the phone (actually 2 phones, different rings) rang. Almost all the time. Im wondering why considering how much Im enjoying my meal. I over heard No repeatedly too. Eventually we heard an Austrian waltz. The servers and bussers by 7:15 were looking around knowing they were closed wondering how much longer we might be there. I wanted Black Forrest Cake but we were told they made their desserts on the premises and my companion convinced me that might not be a good thing so we had dessert at another restaurantDamn shame. I havent had food at a German Restaurant in a long time and really wanted something charming and delicious. I guess I must go to NYC. This place could be wonderful but it has a bad case of the doldrums.
Wow! Unfortunately we didnt have enough time to stay in the restaurant, so we placed an order to go. Their wursts are just amazing as well as honey cake with raspberry souse. Weve also got a growler of their draft beer and it was delicious. The place looks very unique and we will definitely stop by again if we are in this area.
Great food..great beer..great service...one of my goto beer stops.Just revisted with my kids for fathers day..had to wait a bit for our booked table but everyone was in good mood sonwe had a few beers while waiting.Added a star as I think this place is a gem for food and fresh beer..grt service too.
I am not super difficult to please, and rarely give a bad review, but I was pretty disappointed with the food, and service here. It was recommended that I come here by people in the climbing community, and was excited to come. Service was very slow, even taking into account the expected, short-staffed pandemic situation. I was given the wrong meal, and corrected them that I actually ordered the salmon dish that was $12 less than the one given to me. It was not offered to be corrected, and was not accounted for on the check. The fish was a generous portion, and cooked well, but the rest of the entree was not good. My partners meal was also subpar considering his entree was $32... Beers were good, and pretzels with the mustard and cheese sauce were very yummy. If I was in the area and wanted to grab a beer and pretzel, I would return.
정말 맛있는 독일 음식점입니다. 꼭 가세요! 소세지와 프레첼, 맥주 콤보는 정말... 이길 수가 없네요.Absolute gem in the middle of nowhere. The sausages, especially the bratwurst are amazing, crispy schnitzels, the cabbage / sauerkraut, and the pretzels are nothing but delectable. The large array of drinks are also great. Attentive service, and great atmosphere overall with lit fireplaces, although only outdoor seating is available due to the pandemic. The goulash soup was mediocre, but considering it’s not really german and just a small appetizer we were happy with everything overall.
Yumm, wow, when can we go back?are the only words my family can think of saying after dining at the Brauhaus. Everything we ordered was beyond delicious. Jagger schnitzel, Beef rouladen. If you are thinking of stopping by definitely call and make a reservation you will not be disappointed with anything on the menu.
The food, the service, and the ambience never disappoint. Every year I go here with my family for my Birthday. Due to COVID-19 our celebratory dinner was postponed but not canceled. We were able to make reservations and sit at an outdoor table. The staff even sang happy birthday to me (with face coverings) in German! We couldnt have had a better and more safe experience. Thanks!
After making reservations for our anniversary, we were seated at a small table at the end of the bar (not the empty dinning room) with an aisle between our table and the bar,,,,just room for people to walk to and from the restroom throughout our dinner . Our food was just OK,,but, the flies were terrible....We will not go back
Love this place to make my German palate 🙂. Always great food and service. The staff wear traditional German clothing which adds a pleasant touch to the experience. Always known to be very busy and packed. I havent been there since the pandemic but do plan on visiting soon. Hope they have a plan in place to make things safe for everyone or it will be a short stop for me. Will update review after my visit later in this month.
Weve been there twice. Both times the food and service was absolutely delicious! We went during the pandemic and was totally glad we made seat in reservations. Although seat in is out on the patio. They had take out with picnic tables out back. When we got there, we heard the hostess tell people who came for take out that there was a 2 hour wait for entrees. Since we had reservations there was not a wait. Called back to make reservations again but were told they are not doing inside seating, weathers getting cold now, so we did not make reservations again. The restaurant said they will not be doing inside seating at all during the pandemic. They said once it gets too cold for outside seating they will just be doing take out. That is disappointing since inside seating can be done safely but thats their choice. Over all we love the food and the service.
Helped me out in an emergency. Fit me in to get my Vanaru back on the road. Very knowledgeable people who have compassion for unfortunate travelers. I noticed people trust them with their older model buses and Porsches as well as many other imports. So I knew I picked the right place. Price was very fair. Thanks again fellow enthusiasts.
Ich liebe dichThis was such a great find. The views from the front patio are lovely and the staff was charming and kind. They have great beverage options and the seasonal menu was hard to choose from, I wanted it all. We had spent the morning hiking and the meal I ate here was the icing on the cake of a beautiful day. If you are in the area be sure and stop by.
The giant pretzel with the beer cheese dip, the sausage stuffed with bacon, and the other appetizers we ordered were delicious. The outdoor seating at the picnic tables in the grassy field behind the restaurant was very picturesque. All the people who worked there that we spoke to were very nice.
Great German food and beer selection. The place is always packed. if youre going to have a party of four more make sure you have a reservation. Party shack to cant make reservations and sometimes the wait is very long. The food is very good tasting and authentic. Each meal Ive had there and Ive had many are consistently good.
We called to order takeout and they said they were so busy you had to order 2 hours ahead of time, which was too late for us. The next day we ordered takeout for 1:45. We got there early and told the waitress and she said we could wait in the picnic area and they would bring it to us. As we sat there for 30 minutes, watching other people receive their food we went back and asked about our food. They said it had been ready the whole time but they didnt see our car. The waitress was rude implying it was our fault, but offered to remake it, however we had a prior engagement and no longer had any time. The veggie burgers were room temperature, soggy, and not very flavorful. Maybe they would have tasted better fresh, but still just mediocre, would not recommend. They are clearly more busy then they can handle and need to be more organized.
Very friendly staff, excellent food and they are doing fantastic with the outdoor dining! We were there for my husbands birthday. A slice of cake with a candle was brought to him and several severs sang happy birthday to him; wish I knew that they would do this because I would have taken a video. The hubby was thrilled with the wooden utensils, he asked for a set to bring home. :)
Was one of are favorites for 20 years,Although our recent visit 7/14/2021 was an unpleasant experience surprisingly. We were seated on time which was nice, and after that things went downhill. Our seating was in direct sun light, upon asking to move or block the evening sun we were told nothing could be done so we grinned and bore it.Or sever took a while to recognize us, then asked for drinks which took 15 min. To recieve, then we order , it took another 15 min to receive bread, then after 20 min to get appetizer,Was never asked for refills on beverages until main dinner arrived.Which was also extremely late, two couples that seated after us ate and were ready to depart and we still recieved no food. Finally server came and announced that the kitchen was to blame and food would be out. Finally dinner came and we were able to eat.Reservations were for 6:15 did not leave until 8:20,Lack of customer care was very evident,Our sever ended up not returning to table until presenting check.Which showed no compensating for our extended visit .Im truely disappointed, we once braved 6 snow in a blizzard to eat here a few years back but now Im not sure.
One of my favorite restaurants around. Brings back memories of my grandmothers cooking. The owners are always on sight and always warm and welcoming. The food is amazing. Best schnitzel around and the pumpernickel bread is like eating dessert itself. And lets not forget the awesome beer selection.
My family and I have been coming to this place for over 10 years now. Nothing but a great experience every single time. All the staff members are very pleasant, helpful and always smile. Food served in timely manner. Somehow they always know when to bring each meal course. The food is always fresh, nicely prepared and beautifully served. Beers and cocktails are awesome. And of course, you can’t forget their desserts. Yummy! We love it all. Keep it up and we will be coming back over and over again. Thank you very much! 👍🏻🥃🍺🍹🍻🍾🎂🍸🍷
So this is a weird one. Best advice I can give you, dont plan to actually eat here. The staff seems to think that theyre the draw to the area and people will wait 1-2 hours for a table or takeout. Most people who visit the area are here to hike and ski, MAYBE grab a brew and a brat afterwards. Its a run of the mill beerhaus (pretzels, cheese, brats, beer) the pretentious management felt out of place and unwelcoming.
Fantastic experience! My German partner was thrilled with his Schweinshaxe, which he says he rarely finds on menus here in the U.S., and his Apfelstrudel, I had a salmon sandwich which was delicious. We did takeout on a cold and rainy night and ate in our car in the parking lot--an experience! The staff were all really friendly and efficient, and they are really taking COVID precautions seriously. From our car as we waited we could see directly into the kitchen and the cooks and wait staff were all wearing masks, switching gloves, cleaning, etc. Great people and great food, well definitely be back.
Went at peak leaf peeping without reservations. Even though the workers seemed a bit flustered, they have a bbq set up outside with ala cart menu. We ordered soup, sausages, etc. All good. There were big picnic tables set up in the back for overflow. It was cold and getting dark but there were lights. The food was hot enough to keep us warm. Fun!
My wife and I stop by for a dinner every time we hike at Minnewaska State Park. Always great food and great beer and priceless service. Today was our hiking trip and yes we had dinner there. Glad to see the place was open, especially during the difficult times like these. Again, great food, beer and priceless service. Does not matter what you order from the menu, everything is great and they do use local produce. You cannot wrong with herring in cream sauce, veal schnitzel and bratwurst.
We stopped in with our son after an afternoon of biking and swimming at Minnewaska. Mark was very helpful and accommodating of us and our son. The food was delicious, the best spaetzle I’ve ever had. The soup was great, the pretzels were delicious as well. We didn’t get any entrees but I can’t wait to go back and have more. Awesome food great beer choices, excellent scenery friendly staff.
Found this place a couple years ago when hiking at minnewaska. What a find! Authentic German food that we now drive 1h45m each way to eat. Good old world vibe both inside and now outside on patio and back yard since covid. Big portions, good drinks, very friendly staff.
On the way home from a gig, I arrived here alone on a Sunday, really hungry.I was told by an employee at 1:30pm I couldnt be seated until 3pm.I was welcome to buy takeout and sit at an outdoor picnic table out back. I checked the backyard picnic tables, they were all full.Out front on a patio,, there were at least 5 large picnic tables, all empty. It was a terrible way to treat someone.looking to eat, I drove off. Will never stop there again.
Definitely one of my most favorite restaurants in the area. Been going there for over 20yrs now. This is real deal German food, recipes handed down through their family for years. Their traditional dishes are incredible! The dining area is beautiful. The service there is always very polite and efficient, and for the volume they are doing...its no easy task. This place is always packed! But thats for a reason. And for me its always nice to drink on tap what I have home in bottles. Prost!!!
The food and the service here are consistently high-quality in a very family-friendly atmosphere. If you find anything you dont like here, its probably because you wouldnt like it anywhere. If youre not familiar with German food, their menu itself & staff make it really easy to figure out whats on the well-balanced menu. (Deciding on which tasty item you want is another matter.) If you do appreciate authentic German food, you will love this place! Our family has tried a little bit of a lot here & loved every bite as well as our dining experience overall. I very highly recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in delicious food!
I’ve loved this place for years. Mark is an outstanding manager, the staff is super friendly and patient despite how hard it must be to improvise in trying times. The Brauhaus has been my post climbing haunt of choice for 20 years, but what they’ve done to make the place hospitable during the COVID crisis is amazing. Can’t recommend the Brauhaus enough.
Excellent customer service - we turned up with a party of eleven on a very busy weekend lunchtime and the Mountain Brauhaus was able to accommodate us. The kitchen and wait staff were working flat out, and there was an understandable delay in our food arriving - we were kept fully informed, the drinks kept coming and we were given a very generous discount off our bill (unprompted). The hearty German food is also excellent - vielen dank Mountain Brauhaus.
We search everywhere we travel for a German/Bavarian restaurant with authentic food. Mountain Brauhaus is the best we have found on our travels throughout New York State. The ambiance was pleasant, the service friendly and efficient, and the food plentiful, tasty and well presented. We will drive the two and a half hours from our home to return for another tour through the varied menu. Well worth it!
The food is always fantastic! The portions are very generous. The staff are pleasant and the atmosphere is enjoyable (not too loud and not too quiet). I recommend going in a party of 6 or more so you can make a reservation, otherwise the wait for a table can be quit long. Also, good food takes time to prepare. Even if you get there early (before 4:30) and get seated right away, plan on spending 2 hours (and leave room for dessert!).
I have to say that I had one of the best experiences st this restaurant. Aside from the great food, I definitely have to commend their staff for their services.2 weeks ago, three friends plus myself went to dine at this restaurant and one of my friends left his bag accidentally at the restaurant which I didnt know until about an hour later after we had left. I called the next day and spoke to one of the servers, Lauren, who was very pleasant and patient to work with and informed me the bag was still there and accommodated with me so I can go pick it up. I went there yesterday despite rain in the forecast and the manager, Irga (I hope this is the right spelling and forgive me if it is not), was very prompt and helped me with getting the bag back to me. This is really really great service and would never expect this great service from NYC. The staff was very helpful and will definitely recommend all my friends who travel to this part of the area to come to this restaurant for great food, service and company!!
Our family has been going here for over 40 years! The food and service has always been excellent. The Sauerbraten is always our favorite dish and we recommend it to anyone. We miss the dumplings but understand this family restaurant is still a business and their menu choices and changes are something that has to happen to keep it going. We will continue to dedicated patrons.
Excellent German restaurant. The food and service were great. Nice views in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. The interior of the building was traditional German decor, The staff wore traditional German outfits, The outside could be a little more in line with that, but its not. Very much worth a visit..
Love this traditional German cuisine.Today we enjoyed take out dinners of Sauerbraten and a scallop special. Absolutely incredibly delicious👍👏❤️I can not wait for indoor dining to once again return to my favorite dining establishment in the Hudson Valley.Until we can return to normalcy, my brother and I shall patronize and enjoy the outstanding German cuisine. Thank u you oh so much👍
My family is from Germany so we are ALWAYS looking for a spot that tastes authentic.... FINALLY, we found somewhere that has excellent food, drinks, and dessert. The environment of the restaurant is wonderful as well. Thank you for doing it properly! Well be back soon!
Authentic German Food. Pretzel was very good, especially liked the seeds inside! Overall meal was exactly what we expected and price was fair as they have very large portions and you will be taking food home with you.My only gripe is the No Straw Policy! I understand those who may not want a straw, but I prefer one. If you want to remove plastic then provide those paper ones.
The food, service and atmosphere of this simple German restaurant combine to form a great lunch or dinner. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention their great collection of German beers!! Often very busy, so be prepared to have a beer or two at the bar while you wait, but trust me — it is worth it!!
The restaurant unfortunately went downhill. Ive dined there before the pandemic, food was great and service was excellent. My past few trips were disappointing. Food wasnt great and food took an hour to get to our table. I understand there is a pandemic and labor shortages, but this restaurant charges you premium dollar for the food and drinks and current service is unacceptable. I hope things will improve in near future.
We arrived at 8:30 prior to closing time at 9 to a jammed packed establishment . They were great at getting us seated and the whole staff was fabulous. The food and deserts definitely were the reason for the packed parking lot of cars. The best German food I have eaten at a restaurant and would definitely recommend to all.
Appetizers through dessert, the food was well portioned, fresh and delicious. We truly enjoyed each bite. The meals are created with love of food. The restaurant itself is bright and airy but cozy and welcoming. Renovated, clean and comfortable/inviting atmosphere. Everyone working there is wonderful and warm. We never felt rushed or forgotten and were able to enjoy our meal at our leisure. It was like being at home. Im 120 miles away in Queens/Long Island, but look forward to my next visit.
Excellent German food. Terrible wait time for a table. If the weather is nice, theres patio seating with appetizer and beer service (not full menu). We got their pretzel, creamy pickled herring, headcheese, and rabbit schnitzel appetizers on the patio, and a trio of wurst to share once we finally got seated (about an hour). Its nice enough if you have that much time to spare.
We went for a late lunch and the food was really good. Its a traditional German restaurant with a seasonal menu of really nice veggies. We both had the cauliflower soup with nuts and raisins (amazing) and I had the crab and cod gyro. Yes you read that right. My husband had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes and he said the gravy was spot on. If your in the Gardiner/ New Paltz area stop here. You wont be sorry.
This restaurant was amazing!!!! The environment is family friendly, the service is top notch and the wait staff could t be any nicer. The food is unbelievably fresh and such large portions! The kids menu is beyond great! Make a trip to have lunch or dinner here you won’t be disappointed!
When you dine at The Mountain Brauhaus, you will enjoy fine wines, beers, and cocktails along with the most mouth-watering, deliciously fantastic, authentic German cuisine and waitress attire! Even though this restaurant is well known and can be busy, it is well worth the wait to taste their amazing foods. It is advised to call ahead to plan seating and/or determine the best time to come in. Another plus!! The bar tenders are quick, professional and experienced - not a bead of sweat on their brows as they glide through their antique bar corral and deliver exceptional drink after drink to their thirsty and excited guests.
Really good German food. And Easily the best Burger in the Hudson Valley. The pumpernickel bread is absolutely a must have when you come here as is the spetzle. The beer choices here are outstanding there standard German beers and two craft on rotation. The Apple cider/hot cocoa cocktails are amazing. I love stopping here after coming down from Mountains
Weve been going here for since the early 1970s. Three generations have been preparing the same excellent German food. You are not likely to find anything that comes even close. The atmosphere is old world and relaxed. Enjoy the nearby Shawangunk mountains while you are there.

2022-05-08German style restaurant with full bar, large indoor dining area and outside seating. Very nice decor inside including staff dressed with a German theme.Menu includes items like bratwurst and burgers. Full bar and local craft beer. Place was quite busy when we arrived and luckily got some seats at the bar.No wifi at all but after chatting with one of the owners he said he likes it like that. Food and service was great.

2022-04-01A wonderful gem that my friends and I happened upon after a long hike! I grew up with Austrian food and was delighted to find Spaetzle, Goulash, Schnitzel, and Almdudler. The staff is really friendly and the food tastes amazing!!!! If you’re undecided for desserts, try the honey cake.We liked it so much that we came two days in a row (which we never do).

2021-10-26We had a large party to celebrate a birthday last weekend. Drinks & food were delicious. Everyone from each department pitched in to help with service from ordering to delivering to bussing. We felt valued and celebrated and a sense of normalcy even though they were likely short staffed like every other restaurant is right now. We highly recommend.

2022-02-21Great experience. We did not know that we should have made reservations, but we were able to squeeze in at the bar. The service was very friendly and also quick for such a busy Sunday afternoon. The food was very very good. We will definitely return.

2022-01-22A friend recommended me this restaurant as her favorite stop for a bratwurst after hiking at Mohonk. Would second her recommendationIts located at a 3-way intersection off 44 and 299. Definitely a gem of a spot since restaurants off highways can be a hit or miss. One thing to note is that wifi signals in this area can be a bit weak if youre with Verizon.Ask for their specials, food and beer-wise. I had a local vanilla porter here and Ive struggled to find something similar in the bay. Their lunch special at the time had a monk fish with succotash, absolutely delicious after a hike. Heard they sometimes serve game too. Will have to try next time I visit.

2021-11-01I dont think there are words in English or in any other languages to describe how tasty and perfectly made the food was. My mouth still watering just by thinking about it.. staff is very friendly, positive, and polite. Overall I would give this place 10 stars but google has only five 😁.One downside of the entire experience was the wait time… but it was totally worth every second spend waiting

2021-10-21One of the very few German food establishments that has withstood the test of time. Quality & superb service has preserved this fine purveyor of Bavarian vittles and spirits. A must visit place if you enjoy Sauer Braten, Schnitzel and a host of other dishes. Reservations are a must, so call in advance.

2022-06-20We went for Fathers Day and Juneteenth. In the past the service was good. This time it took nearly 2 hours to get our entrees. There was a long wait for appetizers and an even longer wait for entrees. No concession was offered for this lack of service and in fact a 20% tip was automatically added into the bill. On top of this I was given the wrong entree and a second glass of iced tea was apparently an exceedingly difficult task forgotten in the haste to set the tables for the next day (Monday). I know there is a great worker walk-out but I was bordering on taking this personally. We were polite and patient the entire time, yet we were the last party to walk out of the restaurant. I was tempted to ask them if they had cots so we could sleep overnight instead of heading back close to 10 at night. Id hesitate to go back with the entire family. And if I decided to venture the restaurant again with just my husband, if we had a long wait again, we would just walk out next time.
