Mountain Gate in other cities:
Love their food, nice staff, owner is nice though it seems he comes out of the kitchen less these days. The only disappointment I have is in their rice tasting a little buttery and being a little oily rather than a nice fluffy jade rice which Im used to. I usually call ahead and go pick it up about 45 minutes later, would be nice if it was open more hours but understandable it is not.Edit: I posted this comment right after I ordered tonight and if it was my first time eating here it wouldve been a 1, but Ive been eating here for over a decade and this was my first time with the multiple issues I had.
Ordered the lamb saag, chicken tikka masala and a plain naan to go. rich and full of flavor, great balance of spices, everything tasted clean and fresh. british-indian style cooking done really well for the USA - id take my family from the UK here and they would be very happy. going to give this another go very soon!!!
A total cluster&@#%. I ordered online at 6:15 PM. The website said the order would take 25 minutes. When I showed up at 6:40 and they said that my order would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes, I was Ok with that, but 45 minutes after that point I was still waiting. The food might even be good. I have no idea. At this point it doesn’t even matter. A squirrel or a chipmunk could have communicated better. After I had stood there for over an hour, the waitress came out to tell me my order “wasn’t in the system”. Since I gave them my name an hour earlier I found that somewhat surprising.I got the feeling that either someone didn’t show up for work or that they showed up for work insanely high and unable to cook. In any case, this was bad and badly handled. Then they called me at 8:50, after I was back home and I’d already had a sandwich, to tell me they had found my order, and it was ready for me to pick up. I declined.Since this restaurant has been in business for years, I’d have to assume they usually do better. Otherwise, I’d imagine they are within days of folding completely.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion sizes of the garlic naan and samosas! Being from a brown/Hindu family, I also appreciated that the son of the household was doing his best and catering to the needs of people in the restaurant. Given the current situation going with Covid, I wish some people would be nicer to him! Overall, I really liked it and I would definitely visit again when I am in Woodstock again!
Came here on a Sunday evening with my family and had a wonderful time! The place has a cool authentic vintage vibe. The food was delicious and the nan was so fresh and fluffy. They have options for everyone (veggie and meat) Highly recommend the mango lassi and lamb korma. It’s a great family-owned business. Come visit if you’re looking for yummy food!
I loved the decor, it made me feel like I was actually in India. The music was also very enjoyable. The service was a bit slow, but I didnt mind. I also loved the food, the food was very delicious and I liked the spiciness of all the different varieties of food. The desserts too were delightful. I will definitely come back again. The prices, I think were suited for the food, and not too pricey. The appetizers were pretty cheap although, but either way the appetizers-and the entrees and dessert- were exquisite. And, being in Woodstock town its a very short drive from my house so I can just drive up the road for Indian food whenever I want. Fine service, exquisite food, and lovely decor. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who lives in/near Woodstock, you wont regret it.
My boyfriend and I ordered the chana masala, chicken curry and garlic naan and they were all delicious! The chana masala had the perfect amount of spice and the rice that came with it was great. My boyfriend had the chicken curry and he said it was one of the best that he’s had. We will definitely be ordering from Mountain Gate again when we are in the area! Also, a thank you to the staff for being so accommodating and going out of their way to make a delivery for us.
Our family has enjoyed the food at Mountain Gate for many years! We always order take out on Christmas Eve and reheat for our Christmas Day dinner. The food is freshly prepared, tasty and delicious. We usually order the shagg ponir, chicken tikka masala, tikka, dal, vegetable samosas, paratha and garlic naan. All are excellent! Highly recommend!
I had dinner here once in Aug. and once so far in Sept. I wont sugar coat anything so being right up front I found the food was very good plus you can have it made to order particularly regarding the level of spice and heat (mild to hot). The only concerns which are being addressed are the current waiter (not experienced) and the facility is clean but aging.
Hands down the best Indian restaurant Ive ever visited! Went a few weeks ago with my family, they had some great chicken vindaloo and the naan was to die for. Service was really good, our waitress was nice and attentive, and the overall restaurant was clean and was a peaceful environment.
Been here twice and the Food was very good. Being an Indian its difficult for Indian - American restaurants to satisfy my tongue. I liked that food was not oily, tasted fresh, good service, liked aroma of rice.Didnt like the decor. Chapati was made from common purpose flour which is a big no in Indian cooking (-1 star for this).Nice place to go after hike on Overlook mountain
This happened around 8Pm on 28th Dec 2019.The young male who took care of serving is very rude and not pleasant. Took very long time to respond for anything and took time to take order.I placed mixed non-veg Briyani, he didn’t tell that lamb and shrimp not available which was provided in menu, but instead he just provided whatever is available. I clearly mentioned that less spice, but it was in high spice which is same as provided for others in table.I complained to him but still I didn’t return or refuse to eat.I thought of taking out the left over instead of wasting, we asked box two times before leaving, but he was lethargic and showing attitude and didn’t bring boxes, got too much frustrated with the behavior and we left without taking the left over box. Also, after we placed order it took 30-35 mins to bring the dishes, not sure enough cook is there.
The restaurant was run down and needed a makeover. Also the waiter was extremely rude and a horrible waiter, he was not very attentive and half the time we had to repeat Our orders over and over. Also when I asked him for a to go box he practically shoved the box into my lap. I found that extremely rude, I think he should be fired because he’s obviously disinterested in his job. He also liked spilling water from the plants in the restaurant onto the seats. The food was really good however.
Really poor, contemptuous service. Always is. Ive been coming here basically as Mountain Gate is the only Indian food nearby for over a decade. After the most recent visit, will not return. Same old mediocre food. If the servers knew what they were doing the service would be offensive. Skip it and travel 13 miles to another Indian restaurant that doesnt treat customers as disposable.
Solid Indian food and friendly service. They did get our order a little wrong (they served us chicken vindaloo instead of lamb vindaloo) but these things happen. Was surprised that the chicken tikka masala was a bit hot for our kids (esp when they recommended it for kids) but they were happy eating naan and samoas. Will definitely go back for the Tuesday night buffet.
It was 20 minutes before we were told (and we had to ask) that they were out of papadums and had to order a replacement starter. Our mains then arrived while we were still eating them. Our mains were indifferent. The chicken was leg meat rather than breast which you would always get in indian restaurants in the uk where we come from. Shame, as we love indian food. And the toilets, do they pass public health requirements in the us? Cant believe they do.
Food is really good if you have the time and patience to wait for it. Even a takeout order on a Wednesday evening I was told would be about forty five minutes. I went to pick up my order an hour later giving them a bit of extra time and I still had to wait twenty minutes.
Ok -place BUT a little Bit pricey -for what its worth ,, ANYTHING located in Woodstock has to Cater to NYC weekender clientele /transplants with BIG$$$$ pocketbooks.$12.95 for a Buffet -OUCHHHHHHHH - Icould go up to Albany,NY &get a $8.95 Indian -Paki stani buffet.Love the Tandoori Chicken ,but the curries are Sadly Too Full of Cumin to be called Curry - where IS the Yellow stuff when You like it????The Waitstaff is Ok -just sort of Addled from whatever is going on .Worth going if you want indian food and you cannot get Out of Woodstock.
This is the worst Indian food that I have ever tasted. The food is disastrous. We ordered shog ponir and it tasted so bad. Please dont visit this restaurant and waste ur money.. Its really not worth it ...I want to give a negative rating to this restaurant .. Hopeless food.
I want to give 0 star for this restaurant and stay away from this place. We waited for 2 hrs before our food arrived and it came with bugs in rice, bread was burnt. This is also not an indian restaurant, it’s actually Bangladeshi restaurant....Horrible food and horrible service

2022-02-19This place is amazing! Best Indian food in the Hudson Valley! Dont miss this gem if youre in Woodstock. I usually order to go, as I live nearby and the food is always super delicious! The inside may be a bit outdated, especially compared to the more fancy restaurants in town, but dont let the decor fool you, the food is better then any other restaurant in town. The vegetable parkora and lamb vindaloo are my go-too. Try it for yourself.

2022-01-16This is without a doubt, the best Indian food in the Hudson Valley. The chai tea is outrageously good, all of the soups are one of a kind and incredible and the entree was next level. 10/10 - definitely come and support an awesome locally owned business that’s been around for years

2022-01-16Nice environment and good menu. You have to say your preferencies in advance - mild or spicy - since they don’t ask and you can have a nice time . The teas are very good and the papadum and poori are just fine. Dishes generously served.

2021-09-14The food here is SO GOOD. Everything we got was incredible, and our server was so kind, helpful, and accommodating. His suggestions were spot on, and he went out of his way to make us feel welcomed. The samosas were fresh hot, crispy, and so flavorful. The coconut soup was so good I got a second order for dessert! Somehow it’s sweet, light, and filling all at once. Portions were very generous and the presentation was really beautiful. Everything was so fresh! Hands down one of our favorite restaurants (not just in Woodstock, but in general) and we’ll be back every time we’re in town!

2022-05-07Thank you thank you thank you!!! Ordered in tonight because I wasn’t feeling well. Almost didn’t because I’ve never had Indian food delivery not come in those plastic containers. First time got a sustainable delivery! (And the food is great too!)

2022-06-16Fantastic experience! The lamb chunks were HUGE and very tender. The spice level was perfect and everything was hot and fresh. Some of the best samosas I’ve ever had!

2022-06-28Mountain Gate Indian Restauranr is one of Woodstocks real hidden gems. It is the best Indian food I have ever had - delicious, fresh, and homemade. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Just dont leave without having tried the Malai Kulfi ice cream for dessert! The family who runs Mountain Gate are wonderful. The atmosphere is lovely. 2020-11-22They could have done better.Placed an order in person for take out. This is an Indian resturant so most of the food is prepared mind you. The host said it would take around 35 minutes and would call us when the order would be ready to be picked up. Ok. We go for a walk 35 minutes later I call them and they forgot to put the order through! I hear the background they ask if it was a phone order. Then say 15 minutes.Meanwhile they serve everyone else. It has now been an hour and we have yet to see our order be fulfilled. If I could only cancel the order and take my business elsewhere. However I am stuck waiting outside in the cold on a Saturday night.Called three more times to confirm that they processed the order. The last time I kept them on the phone for 10 minutes.Update 1:35 Im freezing. Outside. Got food.soup and mimosas were cold naan was burnt this was some bs they pulled. Did. Not. leave. a. Tip.They could have. Done better.

2022-01-16Food is amazing, pickled veggies, garlic naan, vegetable vindaloo, curry soup. Interior is refreshingly old school Woodstock and Indian, compared to the typical aesthetic at all the newer spots.
