Moynihan Hall Amtrak Lounge in New York
I was acousted by a non-uniform badge wearing employee. My crime, I placed my coffee cup on an unused counter to adjust my bag and take off a backpack while waiting for a train. He said, Someone else PAID for this counter space. You cant use it. He said I could use customer seating. However, I am a senior adult, and never would have found the station without my daughter who lives in NYC. He said I could get assistance from redcaps. But my daughter wanted to see me off (no track yet assigned). He told me I dont need a family member. Made us feel unwelcome. Why cant my daughter sit with me until the train comes? When I finished my morning coffee (We left home in Brooklyn at 6 am to catch the train, arriving 49 minutes early so I would not miss it), I asked same man where the trash can was. Again ONLY in seating area for ticketed passengers. I could throw my cup out, but not my daughter! Why no trash cans in HUGE hall, maybe by down escalators. Why no open seating, like between escalators. Why is Amtrak at Moinahan Hall so unfriendly? Do they not understand people from out of town and elderly need help navigating the NYC transportation system?
It is confusing as to where to get the train. Penn Station or Moynihan Hall. Seating Sucks and it is such a poor use of space. The restaurants R not open @ 11am, just the bar. Lets not talk about being handicapped and trying to get to a train or the subway..awful. I dont like it!
Very clean and modern terminal, but beware if youre taking the LIRR and you have a baby stroller or suitcases there are no elevators to the platforms on this side, so you have to either carry everything by hand down the stairs or walk across to Penn Station in order to have an elevator.

2022-06-12Best lounge of all Amtrak lounges. Only wish you get priority boarding like Chicago & Washington. The most expansive food & drink options, actual hot breakfast sandwiches, & more. There’s even a bar, but it was morning when I was there. Beautiful waiting area with an outdoor balcony over looking the waiting area below. Definitely worth stopping at . It’s free for Acela first class, Sleeping cars & Select Executive holding any ticket class.

2022-02-24My first time here at this station and it was amazing. It’s super clean and new still. It was easy to get around and the staff was all helpful. Compared to so many other Amtrak stations, this might be this best in the country.

2022-05-27Beautiful station, not as big or historic as Grand Central but so much nicer than the Penn Station concourses across 8th Ave

2022-06-13Sure, it’s an improvement over the caves below Madison Square Garden but it is 1 star in terms of design (no good places to sit while waiting for your train, waiting for friends or seeing friends off) despite tons of large open space. Definitely my least favorite train station in the US, which puts it lowest on my list globally. I expected more from all the focus on its design. While there is a “bar” it’s not clear you don’t need to pay to use that seating and the music there is so loud you can barely think, let alone relax. Also, the bathrooms are already damaged and not large enough to serve the population during a slow Sunday evening. I hate to think about the experience mid week.

2022-04-06Very disappointed. A brand new multi million dollar transportation center that had issues with the digital information boards not to mention problems with restrooms. One restroom was closed the other only one sink had water none of the 3 did the hand dryer work. I travel every week and my biggest complaint is with the automatic soap dispenser water faucet and hand dryer. I have never seen all of them work on the same sink. They are a universal failure

2022-06-02Since Penn Station under construction, I walk one more block further to enter on 8th Ave near Post Office. Bright, clean, open space to wait for train. Stores, bars and clean bathrooms open. Charging stations also available.

2022-03-21Overall its a bright clean space. My upset occurred when I witnessed the abusive nature of the waiting area employees. You had elderly being spoken to dismissively and quite frankly rudely be these self important attendants who forgot there role is to assist not police.

2022-05-29You can rate train stations? This is life changing. I’m so going to rate Union Station in DC next. It’s actually a really nice station. It could, however, use more trash cans. I’m actually serious about the trash cans.
